Maglor and Finarfin in Valinor, Fourth Age
They sat on the coastal rocks of Valinor’s bay, listening to the quiet waves wash over the shore. The setting sun painted the sky and sea in golden hues when Finarfin, gazing thoughtfully into the distance, began to speak.
Finarfin: How do you think things would have turned out, Maglor, if everything had gone differently? If your brothers hadn’t sworn the Oath?
Maglor: (laughs bitterly) “If only.” I’ve often asked myself that, especially on those lonely nights when I remained on the distant lands, far from everyone. If they hadn’t sworn, there would have been no slaughter, no deaths. Perhaps our homes would not have been so ruined. But… every choice has its consequences. And if we hadn’t taken the Oath, things might have been even worse.
Finarfin: Do you really think so? I saw how the Oath weighed on you all, how it destroyed you from within. If your father had found another path… Perhaps Morgoth would never have found support among our brothers?
Maglor: (shrugs) Perhaps. But you know how our father was. He would not have backed down, even if it meant the doom of us all. We were blind in our pride, and I don’t think Fëanor could have seen any other way. Everything was sealed the moment he left Tirion. But speaking of ‘what ifs’… What do you think, if you had come with us?
Finarfin: (smiles with a touch of bitterness) I’ve asked myself that question many times. But I stayed. Perhaps it was the wise choice, or perhaps just cowardice. But I couldn’t follow Nolofinwë into exile and darkness. My heart was too tied to Aman. His gaze drifts toward the horizon of the sea. And what if you had returned?
Maglor: Returned? And for what? Returned with a stain that nothing can wash away? And where would I return to? The home we destroyed no longer waits for us. I am just one of many who lost everything and was left only with memories and songs.
Finarfin: And yet you did return to Aman. Valinor has accepted you, as it did me. We are both still alive, despite all our mistakes. I often think: what if… we can start anew? Bring light, not darkness?
Maglor: (a sad smile) I always sang of hope, but I could hardly see it for myself. And you, Finarfin? Do you see the light among what remains of our past days?
Finarfin: I have always believed the light within us never truly fades. It dims, yes, but it doesn’t vanish. Perhaps we should try again. Perhaps not all is lost.

Thinking thoughts about those from Cuivienen and how they later treated the Valar, especially after Cuivienen was destroyed.
I imagine a foundation of sorrow and a layer of betrayal and pettiness. They had promised safety. And how did it turn out? Kin of Tata and Tatie their first leaders, slain in Valinor by the Dark Hunter from which the Valar promised protection in Valinor.
And then, the War of Wrath comes and with it the destruction of Cuivienen.
If any of those were re-embodied in Aman, I wonder if they make it a point to always turn their back to Valar and Maiar. I wonder if they only speak in the tongue they had first devised all those millennia ago and spoke in Cuivienen before time and different kindreds changed the tongue, not Sindarin or Quenya from the Great Journey's time or later. I wonder if they sing songs in their ancient tongue, songs about the beauty and unsullied health of Cuivienen every time any of the Ainur are near.
I wonder if the Valar feel any shame when those who they once looked upon in wonder and love gaze back at them with indifference or disgust.
#i am so normal about the elves of cuivienen feeling the betrayal worse than anyone in aman including feanor and co#they PROMISED safety from Morgoth and orcs. they PROMISED beautiful lands without sorrow. they PROMISED all that and down the line#decided Mogoth had played pretend well enough to warrant him probation during which he immediately killed again#returns to the east and sullies what beauty had been left. and then even from afar he manages to hurt those from cuivienen with the WoW#dont get me wrong i think the cuivienen elves knew there had to be war against Morgoth for him to be defeated. but the fact that the valar#decided not to only abandon those of beleriand for over 5 centuries before that AND once the war is won also abandon#those of cuivienen to watch their beloved lands drown without as much a warning must sting.#i want there to be a concious decision of 'you abandoned your promise to us twice why should we ever trust you again even in your own lands'#a 'you promised our people who folowed you safety. you didnt deliver. you promised us freedom from morgoth. you didnt deliver. in fact your#inadequacy and decision to let him loose made everything worse for us in the east. why should we ever listen to anything you say'#and thus a concious effort to shed association with Aman as the Valar govern it. they cant leave. the way is shut. but they can establish#a sticking to their own tongue and traditions without the interference of the Ainur. they've done enough. not enough and yet quite enough.#the avari are welcome should some be reborn.#i never know if i want those of cuivienen to be reborn in aman or fade into unexistence entirely both have merit and sexy hcs#but if any were reborn i think they would get along fairly alright with the exiles. kinslaying exiles? 50/50 depending on repentance#but anyone who does not believe the valar's words and respects their decision to not ever be associated with them is welcomed neutral-warmly#they teach them songs about cuivienen. the sweet waters. beautiful meadows. the birdsong that sounds extra cheerful. fish in abundance#and in turn they get taught songs about beleriand. bewitched forests. victorious battles. wild rivers. frothy shores.#it is seen as an honour to be taught a song about Cuivienen by the people who sat by its shores once. in their language/dialect/whatever#instead of in sindarin or quenya. some millenia into the 4th age tou have a surge of ppl speaking cuivienen dialect#it becomes a clear distinction of who still has fondness left for the valar and who would feel indifferent if they vanished suddenly.#this tag essay has gotten way too long again. sorry besties it will happen again.#tag essay longer than the fucking post???? help#tolkien headcanons

My last post made me want to spin the ballet au to suit the general cast, keeping Es as the protagonist 🩰
I don't have art for this one but I still got a bit carried away with the details LOL This definitely leans more into a sweet fix-it :3
The story would open with Es waking up in the medical room of Milgram Dance Academy, a very small and isolated school. Es is told they suffered a bad head injury during a performance, resulting in amnesia. Their instructor (Jackalope. Make this work however you wish.) tells them not to worry about it, and to focus on their dancing for now. Es feels a pressing responsibility to stay and rehearse, so they agree.
Jackalope tells them they must understudy several roles while recovering, not ready to jump into things right away. They're grateful, since they're struggling with their identity and expression without their memories.
The first student they are directed to is a shy and lanky dancer by the name of Haruka. They study under him as the role of a graceful, melancholic swan. They watch the choreography in general, and it looks nice enough. Es proceeds to spend several rehearsals with him, talking and bonding and learning he has a bit more going on than meets the eye. They try to offer help as he admits to familial issues, self esteem questions, and comments about sibling jealousy. In turn, he teaches Es to mimic some of his powerful emotions. At the end of their time together, they both perform for their class in full costume and staging. Now, Es understands each move with a deeper understanding than their initial look at the steps.
Next, they’re sent to meet the bubbly girl playing Juliet and begin the process anew. This continues to make a total of ten roles. Some of the dancers take the sessions kindly, while others are brash, secretive, or just confusing.
After rehearsing with Kotoko and learning to understand her determination and confidence, Es is sent back to Haruka, who has moved onto a new show and new role. They’re shocked to discover that their words to each dancer – always well-intentioned – had caused some issues backstage. Now, there are rivalries and changes in stage presence. While experiencing stress (that Es has inadvertently caused,) some were distracted in rehearsal and got injured. Es must take on the interpersonal issues as well as the choreography challenges.
I don’t have all the roles down and was trying to stick to well-known shows anyway, but I think I’d want Muu to be the Sugar Plum Fairy, Kazui to be Albrecht from Giselle, and Amane to be Clara. I wanted to keep them traditionally gendered to prove there are plenty of roles for men, but I can’t help but have Odette/Odile thoughts for T1 Mikoto ;-;
Like the other post, I'm equally tempted to have the dancers performing ballet adaptations of the mvs 👀 I want to see. Bee tutu. Doctor coat costume. Marching band tutu. AKAA mismatched look. The backgrounds. The music. The choreo. So many cool possibilities...
As a sweet au, it all ends with everyone better for having met one another. Es is cast in a solo performance, combining everything they've learned both emotionally and technically from the others. They feel satisfied with their sense of identity, and shine onstage ✨️✨️✨️

Maedhros & Maglor thoughts
Some notes on Maedhros and Maglor characterisation for @maedhrosmaglorweek
Both of Fëanor’s eldest sons are talented and charismatic.  They win followers who follow them, even to unwise ends, with relatively little effort, by being dazzlingly brilliant and having a knack for making their people feel valued. They are not unnecessarily cruel, though their definition of ‘necessary’ by the end would terrify their younger selves.
Maedhros: Subtle. Highly intelligent. Strategic. Makes plans, writes letters.  Persuasive, charming, like his father in that he is hard to ignore or refuse.
Landscape painter but only as a hobby to relax. Student of philosophy.
Excellent artistic metalworker, in his youth, after training with his father and in the Halls of Aulë, he made a critically-acclaimed fountain patterned after a group of filigree copper leaves which was prominently positioned in a square in Tirion.  The fountain was removed after the War of Wrath and few remnants of Maedhros’s early work now remain.
After torment in Angband became fiercer, more determined, would never show signs of faltering except possibly to Fingon.
But at the same time, he was tormented, and can’t forget it.  He knows exactly what the risk of an assault on Angband is, and what the penalty is likely to be for failure in such an attack.  He is wary because he knows he was given a chance he had not hoped for, and does not expect another.
A realist, Maedhros would not turn away from confronting the reality that he cannot achieve what he has committed to. Facing that reality breaks him.
He knows that there is no realistic hope of taking the Silmarils by force from the Host of Valinor, and does not believe there is any realistic hope of being able to surrender and give up his Oath.  He already tried forswearing the oath (before the attack on the Havens) and failed in that attempt.
Maedhros believes he sacrificed all his brothers but one to the Oath, and that Maglor only survived because of his extreme toughness.
At the same time, he would absolutely not accept that anyone is to blame for the deaths of Fingon or Fingolfin except for Morgoth. Maglor has noticed the inconsistency, but would not draw attention to it.
Elrond or particularly Elros might. Elros’s relationship with Maedhros is sometimes argumentative, but forming opinions and solving problems through debate is something that is important to both of them.
Maglor : Musician, obviously. Procrastinator. Optimist. An expert at translating emotion into words without necessarily analysing the process in any abstract way.
Perfectly adequate smith who was well-liked during his period visiting and studying in the Halls of Aulë, and might be considered outstanding in any other family.
Will not necessarily be honest with either you or himself.
Untidy. Absolutely not a natural leader: he is a capable soldier, but not a strategist or a politician, and will defer making important decisions.  He was pretty successful at holding the Gap out of sheer determination, and the fact that Maedhros and Caranthir, his neighbours on either side, know his weaknesses and made a deliberate policy of ensuring that the duller matters like supplies and paperwork were properly covered.
His guilt over Maedhros’s torment and Fëanor’s death makes him even more vulnerable to  an existing tendency to obey Maedhros no matter what.
Extremely loyal. Extremely dangerous if he feels he has to be.
Has a temper that he used to rely on Maedhros to control for him. After the Nirnaeth, it’s more likely to be Maedhros losing his temper and Maglor trying to be calm and reasonable. It doesn’t come naturally to him.
In Valinor when he was young, used to dress elaborately, but after Formenos, he’s more likely to dress over-plainly.   Particularly enjoys the company of Caranthir: finds Celegorm’s company irritating: this is partly because Maglor prefers to sleep late and Celegorm always gets up early and loudly.
Maglor never intended to become a foster-father and his relationship with Elrond and Elros is always coloured with the guilt of knowing that he failed them before ever he met them, and he’s probably going to do it again.
But he so much wishes that he didn’t have to.

knock the door before opening
You make it there, preparing to knock before-
You just appear inside of it. The same dull grey walls you saw right back when you first appeared here stare back at you. And a weight vanishes from your shoulder as Fuuta disappears, and Mahiru with him.
They did say they were supposed to wake up now...though you can't help but tear up a little.
"...You couldn't even properly wait for your punishment." A familiar voice says.

Tsuchigomori and Amane's book
There is a repetitive aspect to manga. The events that took place seem to have been forgotten. One of the latest examples. Amane and yashiro in chapter 96 looked like they forgot about their romantic relationship and it was reminded in chapter 101. I think that such forgetting is carried out deliberately by the authors. It made me think back to Tsuchigomori and Amane and his altered future.
Tsuchigomori knew the students' secrets. It was enough that he read them as it was with Yashiro when she missed the truth about her secrets. Tsuchigmori knows the future, knows about events.
Tumblr media
Tsuchigomori looked into his book and knew what the future had and he was sure that it would come true, he did not expect that Amane would choose a different path that was destined for him.
Tumblr media
Tsuchigomori needs to see what happened in his life and why he ended up like this because his future has been changed so his events in the book as well.
Amane knows that Tsuchigomori knows everything, so he forced Tsuchigomori to be silent. Tsuchigomori said as much as he could, more than he said himself
It seems that what happened in these chapters was "forgotten" because yashiro got what she wanted Amane's true identity and a piece of his past, and that's enough, apparently.
