there seems to be far too many fans who can't seem to wrap their head around the fact that no relationship in the Vampire Chronicles is healthy. every relationship includes an element of abuse/power imbalance by normal standards. literally every single one.
they are all monsters who are no longer constrained by societal rules. so I don't think it's too crazy to expect them to do mosntorus things. the genre is Gothic HORROR. the show really prioritizes the HORROR element more so than other adaptaions, which i love.
i don't need louis to be a liar to enjoy lestat. if louis lied or misremebered things about the fight in episode 5, i literally do not care because it's never gonna make me hate louis. the baseline of what constitutes "evil" or "bad" is so different in iwtv because of the fact that they are NOT HUMAN. Claudia is literally a serial killer and she's still mother to me. ykwim?
the nature of vampirism is they have to kill to survive. so it would be really cool if people could accept louis, armand, and claudia as complex characters who are fundamentally not good people (because they aren't people!) without being racist about it. THEY ARE ALL KILLERS
im more interested in this exploration of the complexities of memory and seeing how the show integrates the other books into this story in a way that hasn't been done before than I am in discoursing about whether louis is a liar or not. who gives a shit???? grow up and realize that there are no good guys here and that's OKAY

thinking back to how tess probably knew right away that meeting ellie was a critical life changing axis point for joel. that she was going to be the best or worst thing that ever happened to him since day 0 (maybe both). when he stepped in between a machine gun & ellie. beat a man unconscious to the point he might not wake up. didn’t immediately suggest killing ellie when she came back positive for the infection. the joel she knew was self-serving. cut throat and brutal. they could have found another way to get a car battery. but something fundamentally shifted in joel the moment he decided to put his life on the line for “cargo” (aka a young girl in need of protection). no wonder she wasn’t surprised when he dragged ellie out of city hall and didn’t look back

its always surreal to me to see people praise s2 of centaurworld. s2 was so spectacularly bombastic and aimless and it ended in this awkward forgettable fizzle.
i feel like a dick saying it b/c i really do love the show lmao. or, at least half of it lmao (/stares at tnwk). gf and i've been thinking about rewatching it just to write out our thoughts on why s2 was such a poor follow-up to s1 - from the tone to the setup to all the worldbuilding the narrative had to offer in between the (far more) memorable songs of s1. idk. it's sad because cw really had the bones of a cult classic, but idek if you can call it that.
ive seen a few posts commenting on its lack of popularity, and i feel like it certainly deserves more, b/c i do feel like it's a novel idea made w/ love, but the shift btwn s1 and s2 wasnt just in the plot. there was a full-on *fracture* in the quality and direction and i'm still scratching my head over it. more than i should be, probably. but, it's just a bummer.

all the speculation of bravern being 2-cour/split-cour is so interesting to me. cause like it all seems to be based on the idea that we’ve got 6-7 enemies left to defeat whereas i feel like everything else in the story really is fitting for a halfway point? like. i could be very very wrong ofc but i really struggle to think that this show, with all its loving genre subversions, is suddenly gonna go monster-of-the-week and play that trope straight so that it runs for two dozen episodes? like yeah we still don’t know bravern’s or lulu’s deals yet nor what arael is doing in the OP but from a plot perspective i think it’s totally fair to assume that if we do face all the deathdrives, the fights don’t all have to be one-on-one………….thematically we’ve already set up a contrast between the deathdrives purpose as it relates to death and ep5’s conflict boiling down to isami and smith understanding each other’s willingness to self-sacrifice but also not wanting the other to die………..which works from a character perspective along with the rule of 3 being maybe set up in 2 different potentially emotionally charged ways (with smith now having lost fights twice and also the “baby bird” thing)…………..so like!!! idk i feel like 12 eps could be perfectly satisfying if that is what they are going for!!!
