It's absolutely wild rewatching your favorite childhood movies as an adult.
I just had such a 'Is that who I think it is?!' moment x2
In the live action 101 Dalmatians (1996), Horace and Jasper are played by Mark Williams and Hugh Laurie. (AKA, Arthur Weasley and Dr. House)

X2: A Movie Review
This has been a good year for everybody's favorite mutants so far.
So far, we are halfway through X-Men 97, a sensational return for the original X-Men cartoon, picking up where it left off and blowing away expectations. Meanwhile, we are still three months away from the release of Deadpool & Wolverine, which will feature the return of Hugh Jackman as Wolverine and possibly other surprises from the X-Men films released back in the 2000s, among other Marvel films from then.
With the success of X-Men 97 and the upcoming release of Deadpool & Wolverine, it makes sense to look back and celebrate the X-Men films to come beforehand. At the time of this writing, I have rewatched the X-Men (2000) and X2 only. X-Men: The Last Stand has not been reviewed yet, and X-Men (2000) was good, but X2 is the topic of discussion here, as it's not only better than its predecessor but one of the great comic book films to grace screens.
The last time I watched either X-Men film may have been as a kid during the 2000s. The rewatch all these years later proved how stellar X2 was, buried under the wave of Marvel films to follow throughout the 00s, 10s, and today. If you don't know or have forgotten, X2 introduces its main antagonist, Stryker, played by the brilliant Brian Cox; a man who threatens the existence of mutants with the proposed mutant registration act. After launching a full-front assault on Professor Xavier's school and after Magneto breaks out of prison, the X-Men, Xavier, and Magneto must band together to face a common enemy that threatens their very existence.
From the opening scene of Nightcrawler fighting his way through the White House to make it to the president, the film establishes more clearly than its first one how it has the sauce. Nightcrawler poofing his way throughout the halls and dispatching the guards one by one with opera music in the background is one of the best openings to a CBM. Overall, the action scenes here are a vast improvement over the first one, whether it's the opening scene, the raid on Xavier's school, or Wolverine vs Lady Deathstrike. While the first film's fight scenes were decent, the choreography harbors more dynamic action that contributes to an overall more enjoyable time.
The character work here varies across characters and performances. Ian McKellen has one of the best performances once again. While his role as the antagonist in the previous film was great, his partnership with Xavier, Wolverine, and others forces a compelling dynamic. Magnus breaking out of prison using the iron in a guard's blood was badass. Then, to see him forced to work with his enemies provided entertainment beyond belief. From there, unfortunately, it's a bit of a mixed bag from the other actors and actresses and their characters.
Hugh Jackman's Wolverine is iconic for good reason. He brought gravitas and an aura of savagery that was always entertaining to witness, whether here or in virtually any other film the character appeared in, especially in Logan. Patrick Stewart's Charles Xavier is a tour de force in his own right as well, but it's the other members of the X-Men that bring apprehension. While I enjoy James Marsden as an actor, he brought nothing to the table as Cyclops, and reminded me why others for years have hated the Scott Summers character; Coinciding with his performance, Famke Janssen as Jean Grey isn't given many intriguing things to do. It's a bit infuriating when juxtaposed with the performances and stories told in X-Men 97. The X-Men and X2 spend too much time on a love triangle where only one-third of the people involved are engaging to watch on-screen. (Although if X-Men 97 focuses more on the love triangle after the time of this writing, this may age poorly, lmao.)
I liked Shawn Ashmore as Iceman and the scene of him coming out as a mutant to his parents. A decent allegory for a teen coming out as gay to their parents, and I think the scene, as well as Iceman/Bobby Drake in general, work well for the movie. Aaron Stanford's Pyro was also a fun slow-burn, watching him turn heel towards the end of the film. I'm really excited to see him return in Deadpool & Wolverine. Others like Rogue, Beast, Mystique, and Lady Deathstrike, to name a few, I would've liked to have more screen time to grasp these performances and their character moments better. Overall, X2 could've utilized some characters better, but some of the characters get so right and attributed to one of the quintessential 2000s CBM movies out there. There are a handful of iconic scenes to witness or reacquaint with in the first two acts. The third act may waver a little bit, but this is still a great film that warrants a rewatch to appreciate the X-Men further. 4/5.

So, in time for Deadpool and Wolverine coming out in a couple of weeks, I've decided to do a rewatch of all the Fox X-Men movies from the first X-Men all the way to The New Mutants (for those that do remember that movie). Some are for the first time ever, and others are possibly the first or second time I've seen them in a while.
I will also put them in a tier list here:
Tumblr media
Right now, I have re-watched X-Men and X2 already and I'll start TLS tonight. In briefness:
X-Men is a pretty damn good first movie to start with. Introduced the world to some iconic casting with Patrick Stewart as Xavier, Ian McKellen as Magneto, and of course, Hugh Jackman as Wolverine. I like the dynamic between Logan and Rogue here, I always love Uncle Logan in stories. Very interesting plot with Magneto wanting to change humans into mutants, which would actually kill them. Also wow, that opening scene is so chilling, and a great understanding towards Erik and why he's doing this. And I just love how it shows the contrasts between Charles and Erik, and how despite their different viewpoints, Charles still cares about Erik. A great first movie for the X-Men all things considered.
X2: HOLY SHIT THIS MOVIE IS SO GOOOOOOD!!!!! Literally (mostly) everything is great. The opening White House scene is straight-up iconic and is a great introduction to Nightcrawler's teleportation powers and agility, pretty much what made people a fan of Kurt in the first place, and I do like how the movie establishes his Catholic upbringing. Brian Cox as Striker in this movie is just great, real scumbag that will literally use his son, who is a mutant and was lobotomized by him btw, to mind control Charles to wipe out all mutants on the planet. A great movie that is currently my favorite during this re-watch series, and I can't wait for Nightcrawler to come back in the next one!
Good first two movies already, but one problem I have with them is how they use Cyclops. He did get a good role in the first movie as still the squad leader, but he was sort of there in the X2 as just a mind-controlled mutant in the third act, which is a shame since Scott is one of my favorite X-Men characters, but I'm sure he'll have a lot more in TLS, right? ...Right? ...RIGHT????

immediately rewatching la casa lobo on x2 lol after reading that article where one of the directors specifically was like "color matters" and i mean ofc but
honestly i know the black/white contrast is important somehow and they seem to be fairly distinct but brain go brrr. seems to maybe alt betw maria and the wolf? Wolf-Through-Maria? IDK IDK IDK
white forest black trees, very beginning "But he will not catch me" having a bird flying past :(
white door, black interior, white furniture painted onto walls.
Maria's first visual is painted on a doorway where she's framed by a brown doorframe which is the only unpainted thing in the scene. :(
red bg fills in black, her moving through the house the next room is black on white
Maria painted in primary colors, the main coloration in the painted sequences that makes her standout visually from the monochromes. The least prominent of her primaries though is pink? I mean ofc her skin but, in the beginning it's mainly just an accent on her face (and shoes) but also the pigs around her fill that visual niche in the scenes.
"i am good" is the last thing she says before she goes from 2D to her puppet being built in 3D. idk if it was specifically intentional but ahhh the sort of. how you say metaphor of her entering the house timidly, calling out, before manifestly allowing herself to take real form after growing more confident(?) in her safety(??) in the house, in how allowed she is to take up real space.
meeting the pigs: nonpainted and 3d she eats an apple at the beginning > is given an apple in her dream sequence by a tree she 'feeds' (during the sewing scene) // then what they eat becoming honey later on? No clue lol! Solids vs liquids seems a thing maybe, on a materials level at least i think (paintings (wet) and puppets (solids)) or I am reaching so hard <3
the scene where she dreams of a tree with a hole in it full of animals hitting different. also all the brown around her and the wood patterning painted on (unsubtly like eyes bc ofc) when she's talking about her dream and the 'gift' it gave her
comforting the pigs: sitting with one in her lap in a fully unpainted scene > transitions to her in a half-set, it's mostly prop but still some painted furniture on the walls, the taped sofa
The wolf calling to her for the 1st time while she's in the house > she goes back to being 2D
still confused why it's a "ball and lamp" that give her her transmogrification abilities
Playing with the pigs (white bg becomes black when pedro touches the ground > grows larger than life on the wall > red shifts to black and takes up the full wall, pushes away most of the real furniture for fake furniture)
Maria back to 3d > pigs still 2d, the transition to the next scene is a strange one?? the floor filling up with white like water from a deep well, and the little boat-eye breaking down from a solid to a painting...yup!
The entire scene with her sewing clothes and she's surrounded again by brown and the wood-texture. Brown taken over by white > Transitions to the christmas present scene. Her face cracking through the white wall (black bg) > Pigs 3D puppets while she's 2D the entire scene
"Their black eyes were those of beasts" i love you dramatic irony i love you unreliable narration i love you. actually did their giant heads have blue eyes in that scene i should check
Maria dissolves into white to open their gifts, leaves behind black smears (pig skin from pink to white)
Bird cage scene! The candles are primaries, the cage is blue
"The only way to be safe is to listen to me" > Pedro on the toilet > bugs :( > Maria's dress blue with red flowers spotted? > toilet sheds into a chair > Black bg fills up the bottom of the scene >
"The Dog & the House" story scene (empty room full of brown and the wood texture), reverse timelapse from brown to white walls > Transition is the painting of a hand coming out of a flower
Maria talking about her nightmares, all 3D > flicker of warm candle light and artifical light > No blue in this scene, Ana & Pedro fully black and white, the candle is red > white spurting out black > black caking the whole scene > Narrator "what is your house made of"
giant head puppet pedro & 2D painted head Maria
Honestly this whole transitional scene confuses me. Narrator talking to her and her growing more sure/double down on her maternalism to the pigs? "fixing" her mistakes to them and locking the house up. "Now I can sleep a little" > one of the doors is painted over in brown > Transition scene shows a painting of a forest being cracked open to Maria inside of it (crouched on the toilet, alone, "Don't give up. They can be better")
The creepy Ana puppet in the doorway background of the scene with Pedro that may or may not even be Ana so much as it is like. the props necessary to "play" Ana.
Pedro drinking the honey (BG black on white > white on black)
Reverse timelapse tape cave my beloved <3
Ana eating honey being her eating Maria-as-Bird very interesting symbolism and the way Pedro and Ana as characters are. So different? Pedro's development from being slow of speech to lead singer / Ana's "sighing" to "today I woke up happy" , the focus definitely leans towards Pedro and yet IDK?? IDK. The storybook being read to Pedro but the transition following it is the painting of a hand, which is repeated in Ana's transformation
Tumblr media Tumblr media
But also this visual repetition
Tumblr media Tumblr media
IDK man! Anyway, the forest blooms inside the house and "everyone sleeps peacefully" the way....the woods have been encroaching on the house itself the whole film very subtley, and yet the characters have lulled themselves into a mindset of safety (complacency) that breaks when starvation looms. false peace or rather, being "immersed in a sweet honey"
All the flowers are yellow, the table is yellow, the bowls are red, the walls are dark, red balloon, red paintings on walls (1 of the cup, the other has a red moon and pyramid and white tree. the 3 of them and the balloon? and the wolf/house) (Maria 2D, rest 3D)
Trying soo hard to figure out what this painting is in the back but it seems like its cut out shapes and a red light flickers a little in the back of it
Tumblr media
Maria in the bathroom "mirror mirror" the porcelain is all brown, red and blue toothbrushes in a cup,
Singing scene: red candles, maria's white dress with floral (:() blue accents and red ribbon. children's outfits blue > red > yellow > blue? > yellow
Maria's been getting kind of? More faded as the movie gets on maybe? Dress not as blue? Or maybe not i have no clue lol
Pedro being "center" and doing his little conductor motion that Ana & Maria sway to. still don't know what it means but fucked up!
Most of the time the narrator speaks it seems associated with light? The TV, the lamps flickering, the LED clock, the mirror (implicitly light related?), etc.
Narrator: wooden > painted white > black objects and bugs crawling muddling it > Maria built up on branches in a kind of midway 2D-3D animation that how cool it is makes all thought vacate my mind lol
Maria blue again! Scene mimicks the opening when she walks through the house (white on black bg), the way the shelving is used is so cool in this!! some of the objects on the shelves being physical i hadn't even noticed before!! love it....
Pigs critisizing Maria (with deeply ironic critique) and there's a brown curtain next to them. White BG (red tiled floored)
UGHH the way they did the black spotlight is SOOO cool i kept staring and rewinding it when it moved across the bookcase bc i was like how'd they make the objects not painted and the answer was a tarp lol. But only initially when the spotlight moves across it! Then it sweeps over the top bookcase again they repaint the color in the books and just ughhhh i loveeee it
Also the children's outfits being all green. Hrmmmm.
"Maybe the wolf is right" > Browns galore in the transition to the foamy puppets
:( her blue outfit full of floras and the braclet. the woods/house/wolf have already gotten her kind of visual. :(
red curtain!
I mentioned in prev post Ana didn't have blue eyes I thought but then she does in the foam puppets so never mind actually lol
Ohhh their eyes were black in this scene again. once was an animal and no matter how you dress it it always will be? Aren't pigs pretty known for cannibalism actually?
Her asking for help from the wolf and all her color immediately draining to greyscale. AHHHHH
"I eat I devour" the actual wood of the bg being painted over with a brown wood texture/black. AHHH

What I Watched in January 2022
Hey, so I'm going to test out this thing where I just talk about what I watched that month. Got the idea from Karsten Runquist on YouTube. This month isn't really in order of when I watched them, because I'm writing this at the end of the month.
The Suicide Squad
Tumblr media
I actually watched the first half of this film sometime last year. For some reason, I never actually finished the movie until this year. It's great. Obviously. The comedy is on point and never really stops. The CGI is really good. It's such a step up from the first film, it's like it never existed. I don't know, man, James Gunn is just too good.
10/10
Oats Studios
Tumblr media
A Sci-Fi anthology series by the guy who made District 9? Sign me up! A lot of the stories in this show were great concepts and there were a few that I really liked (mainly Bad President). That said, a lot of the episodes of this show were either way too short, or they felt more like teases for a full blown movie/show than an actual, contained story. I know that this was the point and Blomkamp released these to gauge the public's interest, but they could have done so better than that.
7/10
Archive 81
Tumblr media
I was introduced to this show from a recommendation on the DarK subreddit, so I kind of came into this show with some expectations.
It isn't at the same quality as DarK, unfortunately. That being said, Archive 81 is still a fascinating show with an intriguing mystery surrounding it. The ending does fall off a bit, but the final cliffhanger is a really good one and I am looking forward to a season 2.
8/10
Scott Pilgrim vs The World (Rewatch)
Tumblr media
Do I really need to talk about Scott Pilgrim? It's...fantastic. I don't know what else to say. Edgar Wright needs to direct all the movies. All of them.
10/10
Encanto (x2)
Tumblr media
Encanto is just...brilliant. I can't really describe how good this movie is. It makes me feel things I hadn't before. I can't really relate to any of the problems that the Madrigal family face, yet it conveys them so well and so poignantly that I came out of this movie with a giant grin on my face. Mostly.
I have problems with the ending. I'm gonna talk about it real quick, so if you don't want any spoilers, just read past this.
I don't think the Madrigals should have gotten their powers back. They shouldn't have brought the Casita back to life. The whole movie, I felt we were building up to a certain message: that you don't have to be special to be, y'know, special. Putting your children and grandchildren on a pedestal and expecting them to live up to that for the rest of their life is a toxic mindset and it nearly drives the family apart in this movie. By the last five minutes, however, everything was pretty much resolved. Mirabel had reconciled with her grandmother, the family's relationship was healed, and they were rebuilding their home despite having lost their power. They had stayed strong and stayed together despite losing what they considered to have made them special. The movie then—to me, at least—throws that out of the window. The house is rebuilt and all of a sudden, everything is fixed. The magical house comes back to life and the family members who had powers just get them again. It turns out: no, you have to be special. You have to have these magical powers in order to be loved and respected. It feels wrong to me. And Mirabel still doesn't get any powers!
I don't know. It doesn't sit well with me, and its practically the only problem I have with the film.
8.5/10
Jojo's Bizarre Adventure Part 2
Tumblr media
Technically, I started this before January, but I'm counting it because I finished it on, like New Years Day.
Jojo's is great. It's ridiculous and is in no way meant to be taken seriously. In fact, I wouldn't even call Jojo's well-written. But it makes up for that with its sheer charm. It's just funny muscled men punching each other and cracking memes for a whole season of anime. I love it. I will never forgive the Japanese.
8/10
Get Out
Tumblr media
I'd seen Us before this film and knew to expect quality, but man, this blew Us out of the water. Almost every scene was edge-of-your-seat intense. The moment we step into this world, something feels...wrong, and you spend the whole movie piecing together what's going on, figuring it out at the exact moment that Chris does. It's really good and will probably improve the more I think about it. Watch it.
9/10
Utopia (Season 1)
Tumblr media
I had no clue that this show existed. At all. I hadn't seen a single piece of advertisement. No poster. Not a single Youtube video about it. But I keep hearing people talk about it. I was convinced, at one point, that Utopia didn't exist. That my friends were messing with me, trying to make me believe that a fake show actually existed.
Imagine my surprise when it did.
Anyway, it's great. The art direction, the camera work, the dialogue. Pretty much everything was great. I don't really want to sing its praises until I watch season 2, but this is definitely worth a watch. Especially if you haven't heard of it like I hadn't.

Seven Samurai (1954)
Tumblr media
I had to set aside time to watch this movie. It is really long. At three and a half hours, I was worried that I would be bored by Seven Samurai, but after finishing it, I don't really know what could be removed to make it shorter and still make sense. Each moment is painfully handcrafted and planned out. It's a marvel to watch and though I probably won't watch it again for a long time—its massive runtime being one of the main reasons why—it is going to sit in my brain for a long while. The characters, the directing, the costume design, everything is so well done and immerses you in 16th century Japan from the very first moment. I'm going to love this movie the more I think about it.

✖️✖️✖️✖️✖️ 7x22 Requiem
The one where... they go back to Bellefleur, OR and Mulder is abducted, leaving Scully pregnant and alone 😭
Best: GA’s acting in the final scene with Skinner!! Just, the range of emotions that flicker over her face as she tells him she’s pregnant... The little half sob that the episode ends on haunted me all summer and fall of 2000 and the past 21 years.
Worst: Once again, CSM should have died here. I place the blame on Krycek and Marita for pushing him down the stairs and not stopping to make sure he was dead!!!

SOSS: Mulder: We could start sharing rooms. Start, right...
Scully: I’ve seen things that I cannot deny. Way to prevaricate Scully.
Scully: Let’s go waste some money. They’re so pleased with themselves 😂
I hate the ‘caught in an alien force field’ special effect, it looks so weird and hokey 😆
Mulder watching Scully with the baby 😭 He doesn’t know she’s PrEgNanT witH thEiR BaBy 🙃
For symmetry’s sake she really should have come to his hotel room in her robe, just saying.
I love how both familiar and intimate and yet awkward they are with each other when she comes to his hotel room. She comes to him for comfort, he slips her shoes off as she slides without hesitation into his bed and then he wraps himself around her. But she also thanks him, because maybe this is still new, maybe being vulnerable with him like this, letting him take care of her like this is something they’re still getting used to.
Mulder: Looking at you tonight holding that baby... knowing everything that’s been taken away from you. A chance for motherhood and your health and that baby. I think that, I don’t know, maybe they’re right.... Maybe what they say is true, though for all the wrong reasons. It’s the personal costs that are too high. There’s so much more you need to do with your life. There’s so much more than this. Maybe she’s just upset at the thought of their work together ending, but I can never get it out of my head that he means that it’s time for her to move on, not for them to move on together. This is also the only episode in season 7 where Mulder’s behavior makes sense to me in the light of Mulder’s stupid brain disease - if he were really dying he would be (TELLING HIS DOCTOR!!) preparing Scully to move on from the X-Files, from him.
Mulder: There has to be an end Scully. And later, Mulder: It has to end sometime, and that time is now. It bothers me that he’s making that decision for her. The kind interpretation, at least in the first scene, is that he’s letting her off the hook, telling her that she won’t be abandoning him or letting him down by moving on. But in the second scene he’s drawing that line for her. I do like the symmetry of the moment in 11x09 Nothing Last Forever where Mulder says I’ve always wondered how this was going to end. And this time it’s Scully making that call and asking him to do it with her, together.
Why is the ABH so good at pretending to be Detective Miles and so bad at pretending to be Deputy Hoese? Maybe because he’s abducting her so once she lets him in it doesn’t matter if she believes it’s him 🤔
Mulder: These abductees aren’t just systemically being taken. They’re not coming back. On what are you basing this assessment Mulder? Some of them have only been gone a few hours!
So... they didn’t find Billy Miles at his house so they immediately gave up and went home 🧐
And Scully did not get a medical check up in those two days, sure...
The awe and wonder on Mulder’s face as he steps into that beam of light changing to oh shit when the ABH steps in after him...
When I saw this when I was 15, during the original run, this ending - Mulder abducted, gasp! Scully pregnant, gasp! - took me from obsessed to OBSESSED. I remember reading all the online speculation and fic over that long summer and fall before the season 8 premier, there were some wild rumors out there about how they were going deal with DD’s absence - some of it was probably way better than what the show ended up doing. Sigh, good times.
Episode-Related Fanfic Recs:
I just don’t have it in me to wade through the 1000+ Requiem sad, sad Scully fics on Gossamer right now... If anyone has a favorite Requiem fic please let me know!

Unit 3: KIDSNEXTDOOR
Tumblr media
Probably a good amount of my childhood was dedicated to watching cartoons. I did have my fair share of drama shows on Nickelodeon but the cartoon shows that were shown on Cartoon Network were always the most intriguing to me. I'm talking about Chowder, Misadventures of Flapjack, Total Drama Island, Adventure Time, Regular Show, etc. I even enjoyed watching the older cartoons that the channel would show early in the morning which included classic Looney Tunes and Tom & Jerry episodes. In fact, I've actually always have had a soft spot for older cartoons. For some reason, it gives me a sense of comforting nostalgia that I wished I had endured earlier. I currently feel the same about the older Simpsons episodes but that's not the case for this assignment.
The one cartoon that sticks with me the most was this very awesome, action-packed show called Codename: Kids Next Door.
If you have not seen at least an episode of Codename: Kids Next Door then you either did not have a TV, a great childhood, or both.
This show was so engagingly unique, that I would not mind doing a marathon of rewatching all of the episodes X2.
It was a show focused on these five friends that all lived in a rambunctious treehouse that acted as their headquarters for their sector V, Kids Next Door. Each kid is usually referred to as their number (1-5) and has a specialty that can range from smarts to fighting wit. In order to defend themselves from enemy agent sectors of teenagers and adults, they create and utilize wacky gadgets that can be made from odd materials such as bubblegum, old wood, spare tires, etc. They belong to a bigger agent organization of other sectors also filled with kids that have the same purpose. The universe of this show is so well-thought-out that it can easily become a world one kid would wish to live in. Overall, each episode consists of one goofy yet intense mission after another which leaves you with bewildering eyes while being on the edge of your seat every time.
Tumblr media
I must admit, I have to give credit for the diversity given in this main cast. Literally, one kid is British (red) while the other Australian (orange). We have representation of POC (Black and Asian), and there's even body diversity from the heavy kid! (Blue)
Tumblr media
I think it's pretty safe to say that almost every kid's dream was to make and live in a treehouse. Unless you have a fear of termites.
The whole show in general really did cater to kids. Whether if it was imagination fueled by the variety of weapons and missions or the distaste of teenage culture and embarrassing parents, it really was genuine to being level-headed with the perspective from a child's visionary point of view. To me, the show took on a genuine take on being made for kids.
It even covered a variety of topics that would have the affected demographic be children. But it did it in a way where it was not only creative but also obtain a more complex feature to it.  For the sake of keeping the storyline interesting while also making the lesson of the episode even more memorable for children to learn from. Whether it'd be out of reflection or relatability.
I'm talking about:
Tumblr media
PINKEYE
(I actually related to this one because I would always get pink eye. Oddly enough, I think I had pink eye while watching this episode for the first time.)
Tumblr media
LICE
Tumblr media
BEING FORCEFED GRANDMA'S FOOD
Tumblr media
A KID'S CURIOSITY OF HOW A TEENAGE GIRL'S BODY FUNCTIONS
Even though the storyline of these episodes would be rather dramatic, it still was fun to watch all the creativity unfold as a child. If anything, it helped lighten the mood of such issues with witty dialogue, ambitious fighting climaxes, and silly innocence. It gives allows children to feel relatability on certain issues they would go through in which can be whole-heartily comforting to a child's fear of getting lice or pinkeye for the first time. I know I was pretty comforted or at least felt accompanied to the pinkeye episode when I saw it for the first time. It felt cool to see some other kids going through the same thing all the while the episode takes a dramatic turn to help alleviate that common, boring topic into a story concept that's grander and intricate; something that will interest the kids. Overall, these episodes gave kids a distracting yet whimsical portrayal of life's struggles.
I would like to touch base back to the bra conversation. Basically in that episode, Number 1 and Number 2 thought BRAs stood for "Battle Ready Armor," which made them think bras were actually magical weapons to help them fight more efficiently. (I wish)
So they went to their friend's house (Number 5) who was sick at the time. While keeping up a front to "care" for their friend, they ended up sneaking into her teenage sister Cree's bedroom where they found her stash of bras.
And I'm pretty sure you can figure out how that went...
youtube
(Of course anything with bras is forbidden for children, right?)
((I really hope you can see this because this scene itself just defines the badass action sequences this show can hold))
Anyways, I wanted to point this out because it reveals also another theme that is prevalent in this show: Growing up.
As I said, this show presents agent organizations run by kids, teenagers, and adults. Well, it is actually all a tear-jerking cycle that is upheld within this universe.
The kids are kids until they are 13 where they are decommissioned and get transferred to the teenager agent organization where they stay until they are 18.
Even though this process sounds absurd, the sentimental value of it hits harder than you think...
youtube
Yes, they wipe any memories they have of being in the Kids Next Door.
This explains why teenagers can be so fierce and violent towards KND because they do not have any recollection to possess any empathy for the organization they partook in during their beloved childhood years. This heavy implication of agism can connect back to how as teenagers, we always think being a child is embarrassing. But that's probably because we barely take any consideration of all the fun that emerged in being a kid.
And of course, there are some goofy gags to this kid vs teenagers concept as well..:P
youtube
youtube
youtube
(The slapstick comedy and clever humor from both videos always gives me a giggle)
(I guess babies come from Philly...you heard the man!)
((I also want to point out how Number's 5 "knowledge" of such a provocative concept just added to her spunkiness because it implies that she's supposed to be that one friend that happens to know a lot more than you do. From that, I always thought of her as an iconic girl character whom I wished was my friend...she really did give out that Boss Girl energy))
But regarding the growing up issue brought up in the show, I can still say that topic is also relevant to me, even to this day. Especially when it came to graduating high school, going to college, trying to make a name for myself, etc. I kind of wanted to take some kind of gap year or break or SOMETHING from it all to stop myself from feeling older and proceeding to life's deeper void. But I know I should not view it that way. We should not view growing up as something so disgraceful. We, especially I, should start viewing it as a way to grow wiser, to sustain emotional strength, etc. because how else are we going to learn from life's values and struggles if we don't have the willpower to maneuver through it in the first place? How will we know we won't succeed if we don't even make an effort trying? We shouldn't let agism intimidate us with demeaning stereotypes as there is advice to be taken and lessons to be learned.
In conclusion, Codename: Kids Next Door helped kids feel known, reassured, and most of all, have fun.

3x18. “Teso Dos Bichos” - X-Files Rewatch
Walking closely down the steps from Dr. Bilac's house. Mulder's hand on her back. I love how they just automatically do everything as close together as possible, like its just what everyone does.
Walking together in the woods.
Standing close in the autopsy bay. Leaning over when Scully's on the phone.
Hand on shoulder during the autopsy on the dog.
"Go with it, Scully" (x2!)
Making sure she doesn't fall coming down the ladder.
Grabbing her arms when they come out from the underground passages.

Buffy rewatches Buffy Season One Episode One- Welcome to the Hellmouth I am going have *gasps dramatically* really dumb opinions. And I don't really want to censor that. So if I remember things wrong or anything else I'm sorry. These are my opinions yaaay.
Let's go! Straight up, never seen the movie. Don't plan on it. Sue me.
Opening scene is bitchin'. I didn't realize it was Darla until she spoke. I forgot. Also I want a vamp forehead in makeup. Ahhhh the theme. It's been too long. They're all so smol.
Try not to get kicked out. Bless Joyce. Xander, you look 25 at least. why.
This is not how gossip works
Ah yes, my child. I adore willow.
He rips and instantly starts taping that thing back together. Already I remember why I want him dead. can't wait.
My Xander fueled cringe fest begins. Someone gets this child a personality. Please, and the ability to speak.
Yikes look at those clothes.
...Cordelia… Why this bitch here? I hate her. So much. Don't be mean to Willow. She's a baby.
Ya know, at least she's a plot conveyance.
Do I have a bad copy or is Buffy… not blonde at first. It's a really dirty blonde.
Oh. Giles. He is a fox. I was too young before. I can fully appreciate him now. Beautiful man. This is not how gossip works x2
Yay, the first corpse.
Willow. Rambling. Soul sister. I don't remember a Jessie. He dies right?
Xander. My dear. Leave.
Again Cordy shows up, is a brat, and gives plot.
Buffy my dearest. You try so hard to be normal and the first not normal thing shows up. Then just "I should go take a look!" if you want out, ignore it.
What's the sitch? I'm not watching Kim Possible. Buffy is… not me. But she is. I am confused. Her priorities. Last month's hair. My goodness child. Giles, you're being creepy. and sassy. The dueling sassing. That's why I liked this show. Remember when Joss had good snappy dialogue that had a point? Doesn't matter he only knows how to write three different characters.
How do vampire actors speak with those teeth? I want to know.
How is it Buffy can sass with Giles but can't stop mentioning the dead around other people? Also, how does not her mom know she's insane? Oh dear. David Boringness or however you spell his name and that massive forehead. You know, I actually had no idea he was a vampire when I first watched it. My dad was shocked.
I know he's supposed to be this beautiful dark scary man. Why don't I find him attractive?
How didn't I know he was a vampire? He's such a freaking creep. Seriously. A dude hunts you down in an alley and gives you a necklace. Get his ass arrested for stalking. Why is the scene with the bad shot like a shaky old music video? You're going to make me sick.
Willow. My child. Sweet pure of heart baby. I adore her more than life in this moment.
Why is Giles hanging out at a club? This is also stalking. Buffy. He's talking into your ear over your shoulder. He knows you have bad dreams. Call the cops.
Cordy, rejecting the dumb boy. She has one (1) good trait.
Buffy can sense vampires through their clothing. Also, since when has sensing them been a thing? And her advice nearly gets people killed? Trying to make her as un mary sue as you can off the bat. Not bad.
Fuck Cordy. I hate her.
In attempting to keep my rambling thoughts in opinions and not just bleek observation I'll just say, the master could have had more atmosphere than just looking like a hairless molerat.
Xander at least accepts the crazy real quick. And as much as I don't like reluctant hero traits Buffy also accepts quick.
Protect the willow.
Why does darla have to sound like an anime girl? with tiny squeaky voice.
The fight choreography gets better? Right? I'm not just wearing my rose tinted glasses on this? The use of just tossing people across rooms is up to five now. six.
Heck yes, music video looking walking vampire horde. TO BE CONTINUED. with a freeze frame? I'm surprised it didn't start with that scene then a freeze frame going 'yeah that's me, the screaming blonde chick in a coffin but how did I end up here?'
For being called welcome to the hellmouth, no one called it that or knew what is was. just 'the mouth of hell' which, I wouldn't say when I first started watching this because ‘hell’ was a bad word in my house. So glad I'm grown and will be able to properly cuss cordelia out. You know. I thought this was going to be more cheesy. I know it gets worse before it gets better. I remember that much.
