.Roulette With My Heart.
Pairings: Colson Baker x Reader.
Warnings / Content: Alcohol, Mild Blood, Mild Violence, Gambling, Cheating, Suggestive Terms.
(Y/N) placed another card down on the wooden table, facing another game of roulette. They were slowly climbing to the top of this game, yet wasting their life away. Their lips curl upwards into a small smile, complacent lines trace the futures of their beautiful face. Another card is flipped upwards on the table, spades.
“Better luck next time,” (Y/N) laughs weakly, waving their hand slightly at those trying to grab the cash from their hand. “I told y’all, better luck next time.” (Y/N) hisses between their teeth, venom drips from their slow yet firm words.
They turn around to walk out of the casino, but without warning, the grip of someone’s hand grabs for them from the darkness. (Y/N) muffles a scream as the figure places a hand over their mouth. “(Y/N), it’s me. Colson Baker.”
“Well, I’ll be, it’s Colson.” (Y/N) mocks, as Colson pushes them out into the back alleyway. Colson shoves (Y/N) against the brick wall as (Y/N) violently recoils with a flinch. “Cole, what the heck are you doing?!”
Colson’s calloused hands gently release (Y/N) neck. He leans inward to kiss (Y/N) with a slight restlessness, they fall into Colson’s firm embrace. “Where… the heck have you been?!” (Y/N) whispers, tears freckling in their eyes. In all honesty, they really hadn’t missed Colson at all. Yet, now that he is home... They never wanted him to leave.
“London, New York...” Colson states, he leans away and lights a cigarette. “Tour has kept us away for far too long.” He takes a puff of his cigarette, then leans in and kisses them much more roughly. His lips taste like the salt of tears. Of the bitterness of lost love. Of smoky cigarettes.
“Let me buy you a drink,” Colson offers, taking their pale hand into his own as he leads them back into the bustling bar.
“Depends on what kind of drink,” (Y/N) says darkly, engulfed by a wave of drunken people inside the bar. Colson gently protects them with his extended arm as they hurry through the thick mobs of people.
Finally, they make their way towards a small, wooden bar table in the back. Colson motions towards the obviously broken bar stool, (Y/N) cautiously takes a seat on it as it protests with loud squeaks. Colson sits down right next to (Y/N), the gaze of his ocean blue eyes vacantly set on studying the neon menu board.
“What are you in the mood for, babe?” Colson asks, slapping a wad of cash down upon the wooden table. His lips turn into a smirk. He calls out for a shot of whiskey and it’s immediately delivered to the table.
“Get me a cocktail.” (Y/N) demands sassily, their lips curl into a smirk as well - they reach over and grab for Colson’s calloused hand. “How long are you gonna stay now?” (Y/N) teases, they know he won’t stay for long - again, they don’t really understand how or why they missed him, he always plays roulette with their heart.
“You never know with me, baby.” Colson says he's still smirking in a way that causes (Y/N) stomach to churn inside. He squeezes their hand back and leans forward to press kisses on their temple.
A bartender walks over and places a cocktail glass onto the table - (Y/N) reaches for it and takes a long sip of the fruity concoction before glancing back up at Colson.
“Heard you’re with a new girl?” (Y/N) murmurs, they’re not particularly surprised - Colson has finished his shot of whiskey and stares blankly at the empty glass - (Y/N) taps their fingers impatiently on the wooden table and pushes their cocktail away.
“Why don’t we go on a walk?” Colson suggests, he just wants to get away - go somewhere. Colson pulls (Y/N) up, with his arm tightly around their waist - keeping them close against him. (Y/N) shadily pulls their hood up and slips on some black sunglasses - they have very slight hope to keep the clusters of paparazzi away from either themself or Cole.
“Colson? Colson Baker!” A paparazzi member sticks a microphone into their face violently and it collides with their upper lip - stars freckled through their blurry gaze. “Oh, fuck -!” (Y/N) startles and hurriedly holds a hand to their bleeding mouth. With stars in their eyes, they stumble backwards and collapse to the wooden floor - paparazzi swarms all around them.
Colson starts to retreat from within the bar but, when he notices that they’ve fallen, he instantly runs back to their side - seeing the tears falling down their glassy skin. “Oh god - you’re bleeding.” They can barely hear his soft murmur of a voice over the general deafening chatter of the bar - they look into his crystal blue eyes and he wipes the trickle of blood from underneath their nose. “Babe, you’re bleeding a lot.” Colson whispers softly, he grabs a wad of tissues from his pocket and gently dabs at their bloody lips - The tissues sops with blood and Colson grimaces. Paparazzi swarms closer and Colson shoves them all away, he shouts. “C’mon! They’re bleeding! Leave them the heck alone!” Colson burns with fury - he shuffles his feet and scoops you up in a bridal carry. Squeezing you to his tattooed, bare chest as he jogs out swiftly from the bar - proceeding to slam the door loudly right in the paparazzi's face.
“Shh... Baby girl, you’re alright.” Colson whispers, as they rest their head soundly in the crook of his neck - some dried blood smears on his bare skin. He kisses them and they wrap their arms tightly around his neck.
Rain begins falling heavily - and they shiver as Colson pulls them underneath the awning of the casino. (Y/N) tilts their face towards the gray sky, and feels cooling rain-droplets freckle their face. A shadow-y figure slowly approaches all of a sudden and cozies herself unnervingly close to Cole.
“Cols,” She purrs softly and kisses him on the lips, her slim hands with those perfectly manicured finger-nails suggestively trace the muscles on Colson’s bare chest. She attempts to kiss him again but Colson leans away nervously, his gaze flickering back and forth between her and them.
“M-Megan?” Colson questions in confusion and his hands immediately shoot up to push her away from him - She looks almost offended and her lips curl into a disgusted expression.
“Blonde angel, who the hell is that?” She coos smoothly, pushing back her perfectly styled jet black hair - she cups their face like a baby and playfully pinches at their cheeks, as if to mock them. (Y/N) automatically backs away, and rips her soft hand away from where it had been pinching their cheek. “Blonde angel, what the heck?” They challenge, their eyes flashing with anger as Megan begins to back off as she scoffs in a rude manner, swiftly fixing the creases in her leopard print mini-skirt.
(Y/N) tosses their head sassily, and their curls become slightly wild - their tongue pokes out slightly from between their lips. “I’m his girlfriend.” They say in an offended tone, they flip their hand into their air and swivel their hips - they light a blunt and begin nervously smoking it.
“Oh, sweetheart. I’m his wife.” She purrs, holding her slim hand up into the air to reveal it is decorated by one expensive ring and in the background, they can see a soft smile playing on Colson’s lips. He kisses Megan’s temple and traces her smirking lips as she cuddles into Colson’s embrace. “He’s my blonde angel baby.” She says sexily, messing her fingers through his soft, blonde curls. Colson nods in slight agreement, and flashes a tattoo on his forearm that says. ‘Megan Fox.’ He laughs evilly and continues kissing Megan’s puckered lips. “I’m genuinely surprised you didn’t see this coming, babe.” He says sadly, his blue eyes flashing with just a tiny hint of regret.
“You are a whore. Playing me like that.” (Y/N) hisses, they raise their hand and give Colson a firm smack across his awaiting cheek - He barely even flinches but leans forward to cup their face, they flinch away but Colson grabs them roughly by their pink choker. Megan watches on from the side, her face filled with lust and evil intent. She cheers him on. “C’mon, babe. Show that little slut who’s boss!” She encourages as Colson shakes them aggressively and they violently struggle to escape from him. Finally, he releases his threatening grip and drops (Y/N) right down to the wet concrete. They stare up at him and Megan, their eyes filling with tears that beg to escape as they choke out the last words which would ever be said to Colson Baker.
“I’m begging you, stop playing roulette with my heart.”

How Watergate Ruined Everything
I think the only thing I would really disagree with is the statement that Nixon was the first criminal President. He was the first criminal President that history didn’t side with later, although as she points out, that may be changing.
It is also worth noting that Trump isn’t the only Nixon loyalist who is still around and influencing our world. Roger Stone, for instance, was one of the people working on getting Nixon reelected by fair means or foul. He went on to be a lobbyist and political consultant and worked directly for Nixon again after his resignation, as well as occasionally for Ronald Reagan, Jack Kemp, Bob Dole, George W. Bush, and Donald Trump. He was mentored by the Charles Colson mentioned in this video.
A quick scan of names will show a lot of people involved with Nixon who simply keep showing up every Republican administration. And when they aren’t directly involved, those they mentored often are. For instance James A. Baker III was Gulf Coast Regional Chairman for the Richard Nixon presidential campaign and proceeded to serve in some capacity in every Republican administration after that through the second Bush administration. While he did not serve in the Trump administration, he is the person who recommended Rex Tillerson as Trump’s Secretary of State personally to Trump and he mentored Paul Manafort, Trump’s election committee chair in his first election. Manafort also has long ties to Roger Stone, both of them being heads of the same lobbyist firm BMSK.
In multiple ways, Nixon’s reelection black ops wannabes group is essentially still a power block in our government.

:: :: ::
“Colson, please.” You whined, dragging out the ‘please’.
“I already said no.” He spoke monotonously without looking up from his phone. You pouted and gave him your best puppy eyes. “Stop with that shit you do with your eyes. It’s cute, but it’s not cute enough.”
“Then what is cute enough?” You threw your head back to add to the dramatics. “I really wanna go, but a carnival is no fun alone. I mean, I’m guessing.”
“You’re guessing?” Colson raised his eyebrows at you and only slightly lowered his phone. “If you’ve never been to a carnival alone, now’s a great time.”
“No,” you laughed and shoved his shoulder, “I’ve never been to a carnival period.”
“You’ve never been to a carnival?!” Colson asked a little too loudly in disbelief. “How have you never been to a carnival?”
You shrugged and made that hum people do when they have no clue. “I figured since this one’s in town, we could go together.” You let out a long heavy sigh and flopped onto Colson, pulling out an ‘oomph’ from the blonde haired giraffe boy. “But if you really don’t wanna go…”
“Alright, get up.” The words were short and clipped, and Colson only pulled out this tone when he was serious.
“What? Are we going?” Sitting up a little too fast, you looked at Colson with eyes that were incredibly hopeful.
“Yes, we’re going. Go put on your shoes.” He nodded and pointed to your shoes by the door.
“Aaah!” You squealed obnoxiously loud and smiled when you saw Colson wince. “Thank you, thank you, thank you!”
Colson pushed you farther away from him with a gentle kick of his legs against yours and closer to the door. “Go! Before I change my damn mind!”
“You’re no fun.” You pouted, dropping to the floor to put on your shoes.
“I’m taking you, aren’t I?”
“Yeah, yeah, yeah.” You rolled your eyes but a soft smile slowly spread across your face. You jumped up and looped your arm through Colson’s when you were done, hugging his arm close to your chest. “Thank you.”
Colson noted the genuine sincerity in your voice and his demeanor softened as he led you out of the front door. You and him were always bickering, but everyone, including the two of you, knew that it was only playing around. “You know I was gonna take you as soon as you mentioned it, right?”
“I know. I’m just- yeah, I’m just thankful. For you.” You chuckled and shook your head, stopping in front of the car. “Fuck. That was really sappy, huh?”
“Oh yeah, way too fucking sappy.” Colson nodded, a teasing smirk on his face. He opened the passenger door for you and held out his hand to help you in. When you put your hand in his, he grasped it and pulled you closer. You let out a sigh as he pulled you into a hug, your arms around his waist and one of his was around your shoulders while the other cradled your head. He placed a chaste kiss to your forehead and smiled. “But sappy isn’t always bad.”
The car ride to the carnival was about as hectic as any car ride with Colson. A few red lights ignored here, a few fire hydrants almost crashed into there, and a long hearty giggle fest at the tree Colson almost burned down not that long ago. You arrived faster than the google maps approximation of an hour, L.A. traffic surprisingly not that bad. Still very very bad. But less so than usual.
“Alright!” Colson slapped his hand on the roof of the car as soon as you were parked and out of your seats. “Rule number one of carnivals: Funnel Cakes!”
He pointed towards a stall right past the ticket vendor, and he was clearly right as people flooded from the ticket vendor right up to the food truck.
“I think we need to get tickets first.” You chuckled, rounding the length of the car and reaching Colson. You grabbed his arm and pulled him towards the ticket vendor.
“I know that.” Colson rolled his eyes. “Aside from the obvious, there’s rules to going to a carnival.”
“Oh, is there?” You asked, humoring him.
“Definitely.” Colson nodded as seriously as he could. “You have to eat funnel cake, you have to go on the carousel, you have to win a huge ass teddy bear, and you have to end the night on the ferris wheel.”
“In that order?” You asked once you had secured your place in line at the ticket vendor.
“And no other order.”
“Does the bear go on the ferris wheel or does it wait on the ground?” You asked, always the logical one. “It could fit on the ferris wheel, right? ‘Cause I’m pretty sure I’d steal a huge ass teddy bear left unattended. Can’t blame someone else if they felt those same urges towards our future abandoned huge ass teddy bear.”
“You make some great points.” Colson nodded, moving forward in line. Now only three other couples stood ahead of you.
You mentally scolded yourself for the use of the word ‘other’. You were not a couple. Colson is your best friend. Nothing else. You weren’t even sure if he considered you his closest friend. He had so many, it was hard not to compare yourself to them. All the clips online, the videos he posts late at night, the stories he’s told you of wild nights out. You felt like you could never compare.
Colson was always so calm with you. Made you wonder, did he slow down his usual escapades for you? Were you holding him back?
“-if not, we’ll put it in the car.”
“Huh?” You furrowed your eyebrows as you shook yourself out of your thoughts.
“We can put the bear in the car if there’s no space on the ferris wheel.” Colson repeated himself, eyebrows furrowing like yours. “Where’d you go there?”
“Hmm? Oh, nowhere. Yeah, bear in the car if need be.” You looked ahead in the line and saw that there were now two couples in front of you. “You know, if you really don’t like carnivals, we can head back. We haven’t bought any tickets or anything-”
“Hey, woah, what?” Colson interrupted you. “No, you can’t do that to me! Now I’m excited to win you a huge ass teddy bear! We’re not going anywhere.”
“Alright alright, I was just making sure!” You defended yourself. You felt the blood rush to your ears at Colson’s words. He was gonna win you the teddy bear. Like a sappy movie. Yeah this was definitely not helping your feelings.
Tickets were bought soon after, and true to his word, Colson’s first order of business was buying each of you a funnel cake.
“With this, there’s something you gotta keep in mind.” You nodded for him to continue. “You do not think of how ginormous it is. You just eat that shit. Every last bite. You gotta finish it, even if it’s too much.”
“I don’t think I can eat the whole thing, it’s huge!” You held the extremely large deep fried web of cake up to show him how truly gigantic the serving was.
Colson opened his mouth to tell you ‘yes, you still have to finish it. no exceptions.’ But then he saw your face. Fuck. He really couldn’t say no to you, could he? “Fine, you can give the rest to me. But only ‘cause it’s your first time!” When you smiled and nodded, Colson felt a wave of joy course through him. And after that a shock wave of fear.
This was not the time nor the place for his romantic feelings for you to come up. He really thought that he had successfully shoved those feelings deep into the recesses of his mind, but alas their heads keep rearing back into the forefront of his brain. He felt wrong about the feelings he had for you. Almost like he was taking advantage of you. He felt like you would regret all the time you spent together if you found out that during every movie night, every late night grocery run, and every early morning drive, Colson had a raging boner of the heart for you. He chuckled because he knew that his phrasing would bring you to a giggling heap on the ground.
“What’s so funny?”
“Nothin’.” He smiled to himself and looked down at his funnel cake.
“No, now you gotta tell me.” You smiled, glad to see that your best friend didn’t seem to hate being here. “Spill, hot stuff.”
Colson flushed at the nickname and cleared his throat. “Just thinking about how Case would have loved this place.”
“Yeah, I bet she would.” You mused as you looked around at all the kids running around. “You should bring her the next time she comes down here. If it’s still around, I’m not su-”
“We should.” Colson corrected you, stopping you mid sentence.
“Hm?”
“We should take her. Yeah, she’ll like it if I brought her to one of these.” He shrugged. “But she’d go crazy if you came too. She’s obsessed with you, you know?”
“I can’t blame her, I’m amazing.” You shrugged with a smirk.
“Ha ha ha.” Colson dusted off his hands and reached over to pop the last piece of your funnel cake into his mouth. “Get your ass up, it’s carousel time mother fucker!”
Carnival activities took more time than you thought. The games took time because of the long lines at every stall, and the rides took time because the operator couldn’t start them until most of the seats were filled. In conclusion, when Colson said that you were to end the night with the ferris wheel, you really didn’t think it would be dark out by the time you were lugging the huge ass teddy bear towards the colorful manifestation of the fear of heights.
Thankfully the ferris wheel had four seater booths, so the teddy bear you affectionately named Wild Boy got to ride with you. You sat him on the bench opposite you and Colson and fastened his seat belt just to be safe. Once you were settled and the ride started moving, you let out a content sigh.
“That was so much fun.”
“Yeah?” Colson asked, placing his arm around your shoulders. You nodded and pulled yourself closer into his side. “What was your favorite part?”
“Definitely when you wasted six tickets to get Mr. Boy over here.” You giggled.
“Hey!” Colson raised his hand a little. “How dare you say that was a waste. It was an honor using up six of our precious tickets. I don’t think you get it, y/n. I had to get you this big ass teddy bear.”
“You had to?” You asked, raising an eyebrow.
“Yup.” He popped the p and nodded, looking straight ahead and trying his hardest to keep a neutral facial expression. “Them’s the rules.”
Your face broke out into a tightlipped smile as your giggled escaped as puffs of air through your nose. “Where is this rulebook of carnival trips?”
“Up here, baby.” Colson grinned, tapping his temple. “I haven’t gotten it published yet, but I don’t know if I will.”
“Mmm.” You hummed and nodded. “The information is too sacred for the public.”
There was a lull in the conversation, leaving you to review the last few spoken words between the two of you. You sat up a little straighter and furrowed your brows once you recalled Colson’s previous words.
“What?”
“Oh my god, did you,” you paused and turned to look at Colson, “did you call me baby?”
Colson had never called you that. Come to think of it, Colson has never called you anything but your name. Not that you were complaining, but the deviation certainly stood out to you. You couldn’t blame him really, you had to stop yourself from calling him something similar all day. Today’s activities felt almost too much like a date. But you thought you only felt like that because you had feelings for him.
Colson looked straight ahead and furrowed his brows in thought before he slowly turned to you. “Maybe.”
“Uh.” You felt a small smile sneak itself on your face.
“Is that okay?”
“Yeah, it’s cool. I like that.” You tried to respond nonchalantly, mentally face-palming yourself over the words you chose.
“Cool.” Colson smiled and relaxed, leaning back again.
You both stayed silent for a few moments, simply processing. Then you quickly snapped back to face Colson only to see that he had done the same thing.
“Wait, does that mean-
“Fuck man, it better.”
Your eyes grew wide when you actually realized what just happened. You reached out and pulled Colson towards you so quickly that the ferris wheel booth you were sitting in shook. You looped your arms around his neck and quickly placed your lips on his. Before you could question whether or not he wanted this too, he grabbed you by the waist and pulled you closer to him, deepening the kiss.
When you pulled away, you saw that you were halfway through your trip on the ferris wheel, leaving you and Colson at the very top. “Holy shit, I’d like to quote Mod and say ‘movie.’”
Colson couldn’t help but agree. It was the most cinematic moment of the day.
“So you’re telling me, this whole fucking time-” Colson couldn’t help but chuckle. “I thought you liked Baze!”
“Baze?!” You gasped. “No! It’s been you, it’s been you for a long time.”
“Good, ‘cause it’s been you for a long time for me too.” Colson grinned. “Does that mean I can kiss you all the time now?”
“You never even have to ask.”

Worms are Gross & Mornings are Stupid
The human brain is incredibly complex; millions of neurons are strategically placed in an organized manner for the organ to function correctly. Everything we are and everything we will ever be is dependent on our brain's ability to store memories. Memories shape our perception and reality. They can be etched in our mind, crossing our thoughts frequently, or they can be elusive and hazy, only returning when we least expect them to. It's peculiar the way memories are triggered by our senses. The way that a distinct smell or taste can make memories come flooding back without warning. . . Or how sometimes all it takes is one song to take us back to a specific time or place.
The pavement was wet from the early morning rain as you slowly made your way through the horde of people cramming Shaker Square. It was only 7am, but the marketplace was packed. You observed the large puddles scattering the street, thankful that you had grabbed your rain boots before leaving for the Buckeye State.
It had been exactly four years and three months since you last walked through the streets of his hometown. You avoided Cleveland like the plague, but unfortunately, your brother-in-law was being relocated by his employer. You knew your prolonged absence from the 216 would be coming to an end.
You took comfort in the fact that Colson now lived in Los Angeles, knowing there would be zero chance of seeing him in the flesh. You only had to deal with encountering the places you use to visit together, and you were prepared, or so you thought.
Stands with fresh fruit, veggies, meats, honey, and baked goods lined the quad. The North Union farmers market was your favorite Saturday morning adventure with Colson. Even on the mornings that required you to drag his sleepy butt out of bed. A sad smile found its way to your lips as you recalled waking up in his arms.
"Wakey wakey, eggs and bakey." You said, turning over to face the tall blonde boy lying next to you. He reached out, grabbing you and pulling you into him tightly. The tired grunts and grumbles coming from his lips made you smile. How could someone be so adorable so early in the morning.
"It's too early. Let's stay in bed." Colson pleaded, nuzzling his face into your neck.
"Baaabee! Come on, the early bird gets the worm."
"The early bird can have the worm." He groaned, not moving from his spot, remaining tangled up in you.
You quickly shook off the memory, approaching your favorite fruit stand. The shelves were covered with various berries, pits, citrus fruits, and melons. Everything looked delicious. When the employee offered you a strawberry to sample, you gladly accepted. Regretting the action immediately after sinking your teeth into the red berry.
"Keep your eyes closed!" Colson shouted, playfully splashing you before quickly hopping out of the large bathtub. He returned within seconds. You could feel the water shift as he stepped back into the hot water that was filled with an unnecessary amount of bubbles. "Okay, open your mouth."
"What?!" Confusion covered your face, your eyes still tightly shut as previously requested.
"Y/n, just open your mouth!"
"Colson, I swear if you put your dick in my mou…" a chocolate-covered strawberry was forced in between your lips, cutting off your sentence. "Oh my God, that is amazing," you said, looking at the beautiful blonde-haired boy sitting in front of you.
"I got them from the stand you like at the farmers market" He smiled proudly.
"You went without me?!" You exclaimed, half upset that you didn't get to go but also pleasantly surprised that he had managed to get up and go by himself.
"I wanted to surprise you" His right hand cupped the side of your face as he gently pressed his lips to yours. The kiss was passionate and unlike any other kiss you two had previously shared. There was so much emotion behind his movements causing sparks to shoot through your body. He pulled away, eyes still closed, lips hovering over yours. You could tell he felt it too.
"I love you." He spoke without thinking. You opened your eyes, immediately finding his baby blues. That was the first time you realized you loved him.
"Maybe, this was a bad idea," You mumbled quietly to yourself, shaking off yet another memory of the man who broke your heart. It is troublesome how effortlessly the memories come back, when he never did.
You decided it'd be best to head back to your sisters' before any other memories decided to grace you with their presence. Quickly turning to leave, you managed to run into the stranger behind you.
"Ah fuck, I'm sorry" You began apologizing, not realizing who stood before you. Your eyes were met with a pair of familiar blue eyes, and a million thoughts flowed through your mind: don't you live in LA? It's 7am on a Saturday, why are you here?!? . . . how could you leave with no explanation? So many unanswered questions.
"The early bird gets the worm?" He said hesitantly. His voice was warm. An uneasy familiarity surrounded you.
"The early bird can have the worm." You said wistfully. "worms are gross. . . “ you brushed past Colson “and mornings are stupid." You finished, before heading towards your car.
