Book of the Week No. 5 The 5th Wave by Rick Yancey Rate: 9/10 Favorite Line: "Some things you can never leave behind. They don't belong to the past. They belong to you." Review: Written by Rick Yancey and officially published on May 2013, The 5th Wave is a young-adult sci-fi/dystopian novel about Earth's apocalypse through waves of extraterrestrial invasion. The story follows Cassie Sullivan, a 16-year-old girl who is one of the few survivors of the surge of the alien apocalypse. The said waves are as follows... The 1st Wave Earth experienced a planet-wide electricity outage. The 2nd Wave Aliens bombarded the Earth's fault lines with gargantuan rods—‘twice as tall as the Empire State Building and three times as heavy’, causing global tsunamis which wipe out 3 billion people. The 3rd Wave Aliens bombarded the Earth with a plague of terror that makes human suffer haemolacria and upon death, blood explodes out of the nose, eyes, ears and mouth. The 4th Wave Aliens invade the Earth and officially went down to the surface. The 5th Wave Aliens aim to totally eradicate the human race. So for the main review, the story revolves around Cassie's hopes to save his brother from 'the others' alive. A stranger named Evan comes in the plot and swore to help her with that goal. As you could know, that's really where the story goes and the safety of our protagonists is already evident. By the setting, it seemed like Rick Yancey already focused the readers to immerse us already on the aftermath of the prior waves. I just hoped that he could have been more detailed on what was going on before the alien invasion started. As a fan of Sci-fi and Dystopian literatures, I really appreciate the rise of this well thought-out novel. Yancey's concepts were delivered properly and vocabulary-wise, it was really prepared for a casual read. The other day my husband and I found ourselves watching #thefifthwavemovie again. We hadn’t seen it in quite awhile and watching it made me want to #reread the book because I didn’t remember how the series ended. Well, upon looking up the series on #goodreads I realized why…I had only read the first two books. Oops! So back to the beginning I went so I can get the real story not the movie story and finally finish this series. El mar infinito (Rick Yancey) 🔻 Segunda parte de una trilogía con una historia distópica en la que nuestro mundo ha sido invadido y prácticamente destruido por los alienígenas. Los pocos supervivientes que quedan intentan sobrevivir a toda costa, mientras algunos se debaten entre creer lo que les cuentan los que parecen estar ahí para salvarlos, o no. En esta segunda parte nos movemos menos por el mundo que ha creado el autor, pero seguimos conociendo más íntimamente a los personajes, de manera que parte del libro nos la cuenta Hacha, una chica que como el resto, tiene un pasado complicado y un presente bastante negro, pero gracias a ella descubriremos cosas nuevas de los invasores que yo no me esperaba. Es un libro de paso, que nos ayuda a conocer más lo que ya sabemos, y que nos prepara para un desenlace que se prevee muy peligroso y lleno de acción. Di bab awal, kalimat itulah yang muncul untuk pembaca setia seri Monstrumologist sejak buku pertamanya, termasuk saya. Sedikit curhat, saya kepalang basah ngefans berat dengan petualangan si ahli monster dr. Pellinore Warthrop dan asisten abegenya Will Henry sejak buku pertama yang tak sengaja saya temukan di Gramedia. Karena seri berikutnya belum diterjemahkan, saya membeli buku kedua dan ketiga di jalur toko buku online dengan harga mendekati biaya ngekos sebulan untuk per buku 😂🤣Jadi membaca buku terakhir ini menjadi titik penting . . Alur novel keempat ini bersifat maju-mundur. Walau agak pusing awalnya, alur acak itu menjadikan cerita tetap menyatu. Will Henry yang telah menjadi pemuda dewasa, kembali mengunjungi dr. Warthrop namun ia menemukan sisa potongan tubuh asisten rumah tangga yang ia kirim untuk melayani mentor nyentriknya. Di novel ini kita akan fokus pada titik kulminasi hubungan penuh kontradiksi antara Will dan dr. Warthrop. Di satu sisi Will sangat menyukai petualangan berbahayanya dalam berburu monster, dengan kesadaran penuh ada makhluk asing yang tumbuh di dalam jaringan tubuhnya. Di sisi lain, Will sangat muak dengan sikap tak terduga mentornya. Hubungan mereka yang sarat konflik tetapi tidak bisa saling meninggalkan, membuat kisah terakhir dalam menjaga turunan terakhir sebuah spesies ganas jadi agak terpinggirkan . . Sayangnya, sosok Will Henry yang bahkan ceritanya dianggap fiksi oleh mereka yang membaca jurnalnya, tidak memberikan konklusi yang memuaskan di akhir cerita. Meskipun begitu, jika kalian penggemar duo Monstrumologist ini sejak awal, wajib membaca juga agar terjawab beberapa rasa penasarannya. Ada juga yang harus menjadi korban agar nyawa Will dan dr. What book would you dedicate to your haters? . . . My post was a bit late today, sorry about that. But, to answer the question, I would have to say that if I had any haters, which I don't think that I do, I would dedicate the 5th Wave by Rick Yancey to them. Why? Because it talks about forgiveness. It's whole theme is forgive the people who do you harm and think about how to move forward. If people are harboring hate towards me, I feel like they could learn from the main character in this book. Besides, at the end of the day, what is "hating" anyone doing for your life except bogging you down. . . . Ironically, forgiveness, understanding, and moving forward are some of the things that Elizabeth Bathory-Tèpe (EBT) has to learn. Does anyone else feel like we’re living in a dystopian novel? I just need my two love interests to show up and fight over me and then it will be complete! ⁣ ⁣ I had to add a little humor!
