Man the remake is kind of an unoptimized mess huh
I mean I know it's a UE game and a modern game and neither of those help in the stability department, but I just love how freezing/crashing trying to leave the sewers is a massive problem too many people are having and optimizations are happening via fans and not official patches atm bc the game is unplayable otherwise (or still not at all) <3<3<3
I'm playing it on a Lenovo Legion 5 with RAM upgraded to 32gb and it actually runs well on higher settings (I thought it was gonna chug but I stand corrected) UNTIL you try to leave, then the load screens are where the issues are with me. Screen tearing is abysmal if you don't use v-sync too
I want a refund it's so bad and I didn't even pay anything

Alright so ive been thinking about it (probably far too much) and want a second opinion.
Tears of the Kingdom and Baldurs Gate 3 were the same price.
TotK gave me a total of like. I think it was 160 hours to 100% completion (koroks ignored) in my case. And then i set it down and have had no urge to touch it again.
I'm about 120 hours into BG3 now. I have not completed my first playthrough, and I expect Ive still got some 30 hours left of it. I DO intend to play through it again, and I know that there are countless things left for me to do in it still.
And like. I ENJOYED TotK. It was a blast. But looking at BG3 now, complete with its 3 stage city map, like five other maps too, full voice acting, complex storyline, multiple endings, replayability, etc.
It has me realizing that TotK reused its old map. The only major addition was a procedurally generated single-biome underworld and a couple of floating islands (several of which were copy pasted around the map). Most of its gameplay was already built on the previous game.
So the thought I keep coming back to then is that TotK was fine. It was fun. But if BG3 is a 70 dollar game, then TotK has no good reason to be any more than $40.
But I think youre more into both games than I have been, so I wanna know your thoughts.
Sat on this for a little bit and...yeah. $40 is a good price for it.
Like, I'm not too mad about the map thing. BG3 was in production since BotW came out, while TotK started in 2019 and has to deal with a physics environment. I know what I'm getting into with a Nintendo game when I buy one, I know the level of writing and effort (and railroading) to expect. But the price thing has been a thorn in my side that I've ignored for...awhile.
I do think BG3 deserved another year to cook. Maybe two. I'm extremely GLAD it came out when it did, because I found it when I did, but the third act, for all its complexity, has a lot of loose ends that need tying together. Which, I also am not mad about. When you've had Pokemon-level writing for most of your life, and you connect dots in Zelda, literally any snippet of BG3 writing feels incredible. Even the worst bits of Baldur's Gate are so rich in comparison to the Nintendo games I play. But I DO think that they rushed themselves, and they definitely did it so as to not compete with Starfield.
Which is like...I've spent a decade evaluating whole wheat bread, and you've put a massive chocolate cake in front of me. I'm not going to care that the icing on the third tier isn't as fancy as the first two. I am kind of going to lament that the baker had to rush it out the door, though.
Also BG3 replayability >>>>>>>>> TotK replayability. Like, it's past Skyrim levels. I love games where my choices matter and aren't retconned.

With the last update, the UI is basically officially done, so I have little intention of adding or changing things, at least for a long while. So, I need to know if there are some last details you find need to be changed in order to make the game playable comfortably on pc and mobile, or not.
(Ex: fonts that are not very readable, mobile interface not optimized, dark/light modes, font size, images, right and left sidebar...)

Stalker 2 is everything I could've hoped for. I'm still super early game but it's hitting all the right notes. I haven't seen any bugs but the performance is really bad. Like 1080p, low preset, with an upscaler just to maintain 90+ fps on a mid range PC bad. But if my PC can handle Starfield and Cyberpunk at native 1440p I'm confident optimization patches will roll out later down the line. Regardless, it's exactly the vibe I was hoping for.

The Guardian interview: '‘Less Star Wars – more Blade Runner’: the making of Mass Effect 2’s Bafta-nominated soundtrack'
A blind audition, a fruitful collaboration, a tense creative fallout: composer Jack Wall’s journey through the Mass Effect universe was as epic as the player’s

"“I had made a soundtrack for Jade Empire very successfully with BioWare before Mass Effect,” Wall tells me, when I ask how he became part of the team working on the original title. “Then, they put out an audition process for what the team was calling SFX, the codename for Mass Effect. It was a blind audition, and BioWare got the files back from a number of composers. The team would listen to all those different things and decide who nailed it the most for the tone or the feeling they were picturing. And I won that audition blind.” Almost immediately, Casey Hudson got to work on giving Wall the brief. “His mandate was ‘I want this to sound like 80s sci-fi music’. No Star Wars, nothing like that, more like Tangerine Dream, Vangelis, Blade Runner. Those were the main ideas.” Hudson specifically wanted to channel that vintage analogue synth sound that defined the science fiction of the era (especially in movies) and imagined the multilayered, multitextured approach from Tangerine Dream as the perfect accompaniment to the dense and complex Mass Effect universe. Wall explains that BioWare played him a piece of music written by another composer called Sam Hulick, who had also auditioned for the project. While Hulick wasn’t chosen to be the lead composer (because he was considered to be too junior for the job), Wall gave him equal credit on the soundtrack, thanks to his “incredibly important” contributions to key themes in the first game."
It wasn’t until Mass Effect 2 that the music really came into its own, becoming integral to the whole experience. Where Mass Effect has this almost utopian outlook, channelling the optimism of mid-20th century sci-fi to establish its universe, the sequel is darker. The end of everything is nigh. From the off, you’re told the final act is a “Suicide Mission”, and to get your affairs in order before you reach the point of no return. There’s a pervasive pessimism, and every second you play you can feel the suffocating inevitability of sacrifice closing in around you. It needed music to match. "“Right at the beginning of the development, Casey Hudson came in and said ‘I’d love to write the ending now’,” Wall says, “‘because everything’s going to culminate there. I want that to be the main moment that everyone remembers. He gave me some guidance, and talked me through what he wanted [players] to feel – which is always the best way to work with a director.” This track, aptly named Suicide Mission, may be the most important across the whole trilogy. It has a more orchestral bias than anything from the first game, and reflects the serious overall tone. It shows how rapidly Mass Effect matured from one game to the next. “It had to be epic, it had to feel cinematic, it had to feel ‘one man against everything’,” says Wall. “You needed to feel like you were saving the world, saving the galaxy, whatever. I came up with that main theme, and [Hudson] liked it pretty much immediately.” But before Wall and Hudson could start fitting the pieces together, there was some maintenance to be done. BioWare and Wall were unimpressed by how the music in the first game had been patched into the final product. “The transitions were terrible,” Wall says when I ask for examples, “and it just didn’t do justice to the music."
"“So, what we decided is that in Mass Effect 2, I would do all the implementation, which was something I’d never done before,” he continues. “I had an amazing assistant called Brian DiDomenico who worked with me in my studio every day; he sat in my vocal booth with a desk and a PC, and I would send him my tracks, he would implement them into the game, and I would do a play test there and then. And we would tweak it until it was really good … BioWare was known for only putting out a game when it was ready, and so things got delayed a lot, but fans were super happy when they got it.” Wall remembers finishing the game, noting that the whole ending sequence came through “in little tiny pieces of video that were spewed out by the game engine”. He took the files and fed them into a movie editor on his Mac, pieced the ending together, and edited Suicide Mission into it. He then wrote different endings to the track, reflecting the choices of the player. “It was the biggest mind-fucking thing I’ve ever done in my entire life,” he laughs. “And there was no one available to walk me through it, because they were all freaking out trying to finish the game. I handed it in, and they had to do a lot of massaging on their end in order to get it to work, but they did it … and the result is still one of the best ending sequences to a game that I’ve ever played. It was worth all that effort.” Wall did not return to score Mass Effect 3, the least well-received game in the trilogy. “Casey was not particularly happy with me at the end,” he says. “But I’m so proud of that score. It got nominated for a Bafta, and it did really well … [even if] it didn’t go as well as Casey wanted.” Talking to Wall, I sensing an almost Fleetwood Mac level of creative tension between him and Hudson; the duo made something amazing that would live in the hearts of sci-fi and RPG lovers for ever, but at the cost of some relationships. “Fallouts like that happen, it’s just part of the deal,” he says. “It’s one of the few times in my career that’s happened, and it was a tough time, but it is what it is.”"

hey hi i have a question about your game
i know this can't really be a top priority when the game itself doesn't fully exist yet but i've got a cheap ass pc (1.7gb of vram and only 32mb of that are dedicated) and would love to know if you're thinking of optimizing the graphics for toasters or at least adding toggles for the most graphically intensive stuff?
especially if the game's gonna have porn or even just nudity, i can't reasonably buy/download another poorly optimized porn game but also i love being a girl and having a dick and playing games where i can also do those two things
looks great so far btw! i love women 👍
oh yeah i'm doing everything i can to keep performance good, e.g. there's no actual transparency effects (particles etc. just use dithering and most only update at 30fps), level geometry is gonna stay fairly low-poly and texture stuff is either flat colors or tiny (128x128) textures. plus i'm trying to keep even minor things efficient like the UI (stuff only updates when it's changed instead of constantly checking values on the player, UI animations run at 30fps) and interactable stuff (jumpslash targets don't update unless you're actually close enough to jumpslash at them). also some general "every game should pay attention to this" stuff like limiting how many lights get to cast shadows
probably the worst thing performance-wise right now is aldegund herself since her model is actually like. 7 separate skeletal meshes (+1 penis mesh) to update every frame when you have every item, due to her items affecting her appearance, but i plan on fixing that soon (as in, working on it right now) using the dynamic triangle culling shader i came up with semi-recently for Lesser Beast, so she'll just be a single skeletal mesh with bits hidden based on your items. it'll be slightly worse for memory usage on average, since her full 8000~ triangle model will always be loaded instead of just when you have all your upgrades, but ultimately it'll be better for performance
regarding hog stuff though, nothing explicit planned other than a "let aldegund hang cock" toggle. maybe some busty catboy NPCs too

They're planning to make several adjustments to make it easier to get the resources used for characters' skill trees; they're also planning to make further adjustments to the Star Trial game mode to make it more fun
It sounds like they plan to (/already have been?) give out rewards to players on certain holidays: New Year's Day, Spring Festival, Labor Day, and National Day are listed for the highest rewards, while Lantern Festival, Outing Festival, Children's Day, Dragon Boat Festival, School Opening Season, Mid-Autumn Festival, Halloween, and Christmas are also listed. Other holidays/events/versions may be included as well, but they plan to announce this ahead of time whenever it happens
They're planning various fixes to make some of the more repetitive parts of daily gameplay a bit faster
They're working on compressing the game's file size on both PC and mobile
Romance options for Yui and Minami are still in the works, and it sounds like Minami might even be getting added as a full Confidant; they also have plans to add Confidants for "several existing characters that everyone likes"
They're working on further controller optimization, and hope to have that done before the game's anniversary

Several people mentioned that they are playing on console and therefore can't check his flag status in my last post about using console commands to avoid his sneaky god ending(it is where you reject his proposal of ascending together in the boat scene, although he acted convinced but will then leave you and ascend to godhood alone), after searching through dialogue files, I found that it's actually possible for all players to check which ending he'll get after you have done his act 3 scenes(book scene, meeting Elminster, meeting Mystra, boat ride scene), but that involves killing him, which is not optimal :((...
So here's how you do it: first, send him to camp, enter turn-based mode, use your party members to kill him in one turn, switch back to your avatar and cast "Speak with Dead" on him, and ask him: "What were you trying to achieve?", if his answer is "Seeking... Karsus' power... failed..." then he's going to ascend at the end of the game, if it's any other answer, he'll remain human. Now revive him or load a save before this event!
You'll need to redo his Act 3 scenes if you got the Karsus answer, and if you want to know which dialogue options you need to choose to ensure he's convinced, I gathered a list of options you need to pick or avoid under the cut. If you really don’t want to kill him, you could load a save right after his act 3 scenes and view dialogue history to count options you chose with each flag and figure out which ending you’ll get.
If you are playing on PC, you have progressed too far in the game and don't want to redo the entire Act 3 when you find out about this, or you just want to see other endings of him with your character without replaying the game, here are some console commands for you to alter his ending using Norbyte's BG3 Script Extender’s console([X]this is an old version with a config file that enables the console, it will automatically update once you start the game, or you need to manually edit the JSON file if you download the latest version from the first link). These codes should still work during the scene when you defeat the Netherbrain before his part starts.

If you wish to do this on other characters, change their flags etc., this list of all the uuids of items, character tags and flags in the game could be useful, and you could look into datamined dialogue files from this post by @roksik-dnd to find which flag you need to look to get things done.
You'll need to choose more options with "PushAwayFromCrown" than "PushTowardsCrown" for his human ending to work, for his god ending, you should choose equal or more amount of "PushTowardsCrown" than "PushAwayFromCrown". You do not need to choose every possible option or ask him to seek Mystra's forgiveness to get his human ending. u/airydandelion explained this mechanism in detail in their reddit post, you should check it out if you want to understand how this works!

hey there! so i've seen you posting stuff about revel, especially you describing it as "dnd but good". what does that mean to you? what are you adding to the heartbreaker formula to make it fresh and interesting that pathfinder doesn't do, for example?
It’s a lot of stuff inspired by the way I run my existing 5e game, because I’m one of those DMs who isn’t really playing 5e anymore. When I finish off this 4-year D&D campaign with a 100,000 HP final boss, I’m moving to greener pastures… After truly pushing that dogshit game to its limits I’m going to need a fresh framework to riff upon, and right now that’s looking like it’ll be Revel.
I’m less concerned with treading completely new ground with Revel, and more focused on making a game that doesn’t meet my desired playstyle in the middle. I’m a sucker for long stretches of downtime broken up by tactical combat, intricate superbosses, and really, REALLY big numbers
For character creation stuff:
At the moment there’s 6 Roles (one for each ability score):
Vanguard (front line fighter)
Vagabond (bursty skirmisher)
Tower (dedicated tank)
Tome (maximal spell-slinging)
Adherent (midrangey support caster)
Artist (dedicated support caster)
Roles generally define your combat niche, but can be built to fill those niches in a variety of ways.
Each Role has 3 associated Classes, which each only go up to half the level cap (so multiclassing is eventually mandatory).
Each Class has a pool of 10 Upgrades (new passives or actions or what have you) which each can be further enhanced in unique ways with Mastery Points. In addition to being acquired through leveling, Upgrades and Mastery Perks are good targets for PCs to work towards during downtime
The first three Roles are martials, the other three are casters. Martial levels contribute to your stamina pool, caster levels contribute to spell progression. The goal is for those two progression systems to mesh well enough that playing split martial/casters is just as good as going full martial or full caster.
Most of the spells in the game are modal, and do at least slightly different things when cast as a Quick Action vs when cast as a Full Action. Stamina abilities tend to just snap the action economy over their knee, and Stamina regenerates between encounters, so martials are encouraged to maximize the value they can get out of their stamina each fight, while casters weigh their spell choices to ensure they can go nova on the boss
General gamefeel:
Positioning doesn’t matter that much in D&D when a fireball can hit basically anywhere on a reasonably-sized map. Reducing both ranges and movement speeds is meant to help to make proper use of movement a more important skill, as well as encourage generally smaller maps
Open enemy statblocks, with incredibly dangerous abilities that can be countered with proper play. This game isn’t really meant to be a *product*, so I’m not sure if I’ll be making much in the way of example statblocks. Telegraphed one-hit KO mechanics as a way to shape player decisionmaking are my bread and butter
In general, characters should care about the circumstances of the game around them more. In D&D, the fighter walks towards the enemy and hits them a bunch. In Revel, hopefully players will have the tools to engineer a situation that maximizes the amount of shenanigans they can fit into a turn, and the amount of possible shenanigans that can arise in an optimal scenario will be frankly silly.
In summary, the beating heart of Revel’s design philosophy is that a high level Wizard’s turn should play out like an Armored Core pulling off an MTG combo.

manonnikki but on pc
You might be thinking... "what, but manonnikki was always on pc! you just play it on itch.io!" And you'd be right! But, browser games are not the most optimized way to play, and I felt that close to home when I played the game for the first time on my Linux laptop, which is 15 years old. The game suffered from slowdown quite often, so I decided: "i'm gonna port this game directly to linux so it's faster." I set out on this journey, and actually succeeded, and quite quickly at that! I had a working copy on my laptop, and it stayed at a locked 60 fps, thanks to local desktop optimizations!
Um, anyway, I did this back in December, and set up a Github Repo that hosted the files, being playable if you just put in your own EasyRPG player. However, after 3 months, I finally finished what I started and put the players into the game files and made the first PC release.
TL;DR: You can play this game on your 15 year old laptop too!! Also, if you know how to set it up, you can play it on anything else.

Healing Takes Time Chapter 1

How long has he been staring at this stupid concrete wall? A day? A week? A year? Whatever it was felt like an eternity. Chosen can’t move. Can’t breathe. Not since the mountain came crashing down. Since Dark died. He’s just been laying on this bed staring at the wall holding a sweatshirt hoping, praying, needing Dark to come back through that door. His loud mouth and witty quips, a comeback for anything Chosen could say. But he’ll never be able to hear that voice again. Never be able to hug or touch or be with him again. 
How can he move on? How can he be without his other half? Dark was the reason he had freedom, that he could live outside of a confining PC. No longer a slave but a person, something with life and a soul. He’s never had a night under the stars without Dark at his side and now he’ll have to see them every night without him. 
Cursors above, he’s tired. Even though he’s been in this bed, for who knows how long, the fatigue is deep in his bones. He wants to die in this bed. He feels dead. So exhausted he can barley move or think. Only take in deep breaths of Dark’s favorite red sweatshirt.
A small, familiar creek of the front door, sends a small flicker of hope through his chest. He waits for Dark to call out, tell him he was home from whatever adventure had called to him. Tell him that this was all in his head, that this was a nightmare and that he would never lose him. That the virabots were nothing but a bad dream and he would never do anything so stupid.
“Chosen? Are you here? The door was unlocked so I let myself in.” No. Definitely not Dark. Too childish and high pitched. But the voice is familiar.  “It’s Orange. Ya know? From Alan’s PC? I wanted to come check in on you. See how you were doing? I brought food! Hello?”
Oh that’s why. It’s the kid. Chosen pulls the covers over his head like a child hiding from their parents. Maybe if he ignored the kid, he’d go away. But the steps get louder and louder as he steps up the stairs, growing ever closer. The door creaks open the kid’s voice clear as day, the only thing protecting Chosen was the blankets over his head.
“Hey, is this you?” The kid asks, poking the duvet. “It is!!”
The sheets ripped off his body in an instant exposing him to the sunlight and coldness that was the outside world. He curls in farther into himself and the hoodie in his arms hoping that the kid is getting the hint. 
“Are you alive?” He wishes he wasn’t. He wishes he was right there with Dark when the mountain fell.  Orange pokes and prods his stomach causing him to squirm, his lips curling into a smile against his will. “You are! Come on! Get out of there!” Chosen groans as he pushes himself out of bed, knowing that the kid will never leave him alone if he doesn’t comply. He sits up and stretches his aching body before looking at the kid. An annoyingly cheerful smile on his face and his hair pulled back into a high ponytail with green highlights toward the end. His eyes are bright with happiness and optimism that Chosen never even got the chance to experience. 
“You're up! Come on, I brought food!” He pulls on Chosen’s hands bringing him to his feet. It was nice. Warm. He can feel the kid's heart beat in between his fingers. Warm, steady and consistent. He’s alive. They’re both alive. He grips onto the kid’s hand as if it would disappear the moment he let it go. Call him selfish, you wouldn’t be the first, but he needs this. More than he realized.
“Woah, hey,” The kid says “Quite a grip there. I’m not going anywhere. You hungry? I brought sandwiches and watermelon lemonade, and some sweet berries!” He was hungry. He hasn’t eaten for a few days. Or showered. Or smoked. Or done anything. Just stared at the wall. And cried into that damn sweatshirt. 
The kid leads him down the stairs showing him a big picnic basket set down on his kitchen counters. He begins to unpack everything with his free hand, setting the pixilated food down on plates. Pixelated and flat. Definitely not from this world. He looks back at the smiling kid as he continues to unpack what he brought and starts to snicker. 
“What? What’s so funny?”
“Nothing it’s just, how did you even get this here?”
“I brought it from home!”
Of course he did. Kid grew up in isolation on Alan’s PC. He can't have any clue about laws or rules. But hey, everyone’s gotta learn sometime. Better to have him sneaking in food than terrorizing websites and killing innocent sticks. 
“That’s illegal. Game smuggling. You could get time.” The kid’s face goes ghost white, stumbling over words in shock. Chosen can’t help but chuckle, grabbing a sandwich and some berries. “Guess being a troublemaker runs in the family.” 
The tension in the kid's shoulders relaxes as a small laugh escapes his mouth. “Ye-Yeah. Guess it does.”
Chosen lets a small smile grace his lips as he bites into the sandwich the kid brought. It’s good for a sandwich and the berries are fresh so he can’t complain. And hey, free food. The kids' bright orange eyes keep bouncing around the room and examining Chosen’s body. His eyes finally lock on to Chosen’s and a look of sadness comes over him. 
“Have you just been in that bed since…”
“Cursors, kid, manners. You break into my house and now you’re asking questions?” Dark used to say he used sarcasm as a shield, a way to deflect and protect himself. And he had a point, but feelings weren’t exactly his forté. Wasn’t Dark’s either but that’s what made them such good friends. They’d just sit in silence and enjoy each other's company. This kid was clearly a talkative one. Full of energy and light. 
“Sorry, I didn’t mean to,” The kid says, holding his hands up and waving them back and forth.“It’s just I wouldn’t blame you if you were. If one of my best friends did something like that then I had to fight them, I don’t think I’d ever get out of bed.” 
“Don’t worry kid, your friends seem like good people. I don’t think you’ll have to deal with that.” “Yeah, my friends are the best.”
“Considering how they jumped in to save you with no hesitation, yeah, I’d say so. ”All those kids seemed so selfless and kind. Just jumping in front of the kid and himself. Regardless of their own safety, their own skill, they just threw themselves into the battle to protect a friend and a stranger. Dark would have never done anything like that. He never gave, only took. 
Chosen takes a good look at the kid for the first time since they met. All the injuries from the fight have scared over, leaving fine white lines all over his body. His shirt looks burned at the edges as if he was recently playing with fire, and his hair and shoulders carry a fine red dust. Weird. If he took the tunnel that he created all of that should’ve been taken off by the strong winds. 
“How did you even get here?” Chosen asks needing an answer to the stupid question. 
“Now who’s asking the questions?” Chosen smiles and the kid’s sassiness, not all sugar, kid’s got a little bit of spice in him.  They didn’t get much time to talk in between all the fighting, and death. There might have been a total of twenty words exchanged between them and most of them were “Thank you for saving me!”. This was the first time they actually had a conversation, and while the kid was very bubbly and full of energy, it was nice. “My friends have a portal that connects to the Nether. It wasn’t a hard walk.”
“Nether? What's The Nether?” 
“Oh, uh, do you know what Minecraft is?”
“No, well kinda. It’s a video game right?” Chosen remembers the big booth with a huge cube dressed up like a chunk of grass, at the fair he and Dark snuck into a few years back. It wasn’t either one of their things but it was cool to just see. Definitely left an impression, but nothing more than that.  
“Yeah! My friend has a portal connecting this world to the game and the game  connects to another portal on Alan’s desktop so I just came through that.” “So what's the Nether?”
“Oh it’s a dimension in Minecraft. It’s full of lava and fire, but it’s easy to get through once you know what you’re doing.”
“Kid, you shouldn’t go through a fire dimension for me. If you’re gonna come, go through the portal I made.” 
“But I don’t want to fall in the lake!”
“You won’t fall into the lake.”
“Yes I will, I can’t fly like you!”
Chosen freezes and looks at the kid as if he was insane. His eyes try to find any sense of humor or sarcasm in the kids expression but found none. 
“Kid, question for you.” He asks ready to test the waters.
“Go ahead.”
“What do you remember about the fight?”
“Um, I remember standing in front of you and then my friends helping me and, the red guy-“
“Dark.” 
“Dark, stabbing them then me, and then the world went black. Then I woke up with Alan and my friends above me. I think I died.”
Actually the opposite Chosen thinks to himself. He was a powerhouse. Wielding more strength and cosmic energy than Chosen could even dream of. Green sparks of lighting that exploded into the sky. Lime green energy that healed him. Speed that could break the sound barrier with ease. But it’s probably for the best that he can't remember all that.
He remembers his creation day. So full of power and fear. Destroying everything and anything in his way as he just tried to run from the overwhelming dread that overtook his body, until the cursor in the sky imprisoned him. Used him as his own personal Adblock. He wouldn’t wish that upon anyone, especially the kid. 
“I’m really sorry that you had to hurt Dark.”
“Yeah, well, someone had to stop him. But thanks kid.”
“Ya know,” The kid says, putting down his sandwich “You can call me Orange. It is my name.” What? No. A hollow head without a kickass name? That’s not Alan at all. No, there has to be more. No way Alan came up with a basic name like Orange. He had to have something, anything, better than the name of a normal stick figure. Especially considering his powers, there is no way his file name is just ‘Orange_StickFigure’ Or something like that. Not with Alan.
“Well, I’m not calling you that.” Chosen says grabbing the watermelon lemonade “What did Alan name you?”
“He didn’t name me anything. I’m just Orange.”
“Well, for now, you’re ‘kid.’”
“Great.” The kid says, rolling his eyes with a smile.
“Hey, you should be honored. Not even Dark got a nickname like that.”
“Oh really?”
“Nope, he was always Dark. Back then, now, and forever, Dark.”
It’s true. No matter what, he will be Dark. Not The Dark Lord, or The Internet Terrorist. Dark. His friend. His Brother. His matching half. His freedom. His best friend. 
“I’m really sorry you had to kill him. But, now you have me! And I’m not going to let you wallow away in that bed forever. Okay?” Chosen smiles at the kids' optimism. How can he not? That hollowness he had just felt, while still there no longer felt like it would swallow him whole. It was manageable, something he could fight now.  
“Hey as long as you bring me food, we have a deal. Just knock next time?”
“Deal.”
The Kid is no Dark, not even close. He’s far too bright and bubbly, an optimism that would’ve made Dark sick and smile that never seemed to fade. Dark had a glint of mischief in his eye and a permanent smirk on his face. They were so, so, different but so similar in so many ways. Energetic and sassy, full of curiosity and vigor, ready to pull Chosen to the next thing. Willing to do anything just to make Chosen smile.
A sudden squeeze around his chest takes any breath he has away. He looks down to see the kid wrapping his arms around his torso, his head firmly in his chest with the top of his head under Chosen’s chin.
“I gotta go, but I’ll see you next week. Okay?” Chosen isn’t sure what to do in this situation. Dark wasn’t much of a hugger, and Chosen wasn’t much for physical contact. And while Dark loved to be in his space, he wasn’t one for physical affection. He just knew it bothered Chosen so he’d do everything in his power to be as physically close as he could just to bug him. But this was different. Very, very different. In a good way? Maybe? He honestly isn’t sure.
“Promise me you’ll take care of yourself while I’m away?” The kid looks back up with a bright smile and sparkling eyes, and Chosen’s heart can’t help but swell. How can he say no to that face? That would be like kicking a puppy. Chosen ruffles the kids hair as he releases the death grip he held on Chosen.
“I’ll try, kid. I promise.”
