Dream Nails is a diy queer punk band from England with influences from pop, riot grrrl, and rap.

I saw them live recently and Ishmael is captivating on stage. It's like the music possesses them, every expression and movement conveys something new. The lighting was highly specific to their performance (not usual for shitty little punk shows) and when I asked them after the show they admitted they were a "huge theatre kid". Explains a lot, fucking banging band.

we had opening night for the theatre play I helped write and perform in and it was so much fun <33 just so nice to be able to perform new writing at a bookstore with your mates and the community.

BBC punk rock documentary from 1976. Fab stuff! The Sex Pistols play a song and consent to be interviewed. Siouxsie Sioux talks about playing her first gig two weeks before.

The interviewer asks a club owner why punk happened. He answers

“It had to; it’s the only thing that could happen. I mean, it was the only thing that didn’t come from the industry, it came from the kids themselves. Something had to come from the kids. The industry had run out of ideas; that’s why we had rock-and-roll revivals every other year.”

Punk itself became thoroughly commodified, but every once in a while you get similar bursts of bottom-up creativity — Riot Grrrl, Detroit techno, the original explosion of rave/hardcore/jungle in the UK. There’s a scene in Chicago right now where everyone’s still in high school, and it’s spinning out great bands like Horsegirl.

Bob Vylan are a punk/grime/hip hop duo from London

Skinny Girl Diet are a rly good modern riot grrrl band with a more indie punk sound

That's all I got just bc I'm USAmerican so I'm not so familiar w the UK scene but these 3 are all rly great current artists!!

Lauren Tate’s voice is one of a kind I swear. Perfect combination of snarl and sweetness

Patiently awaiting the day they finally break out of the UK and come to Australia
