I live in eastern Canada, how do I maximize my chances of meeting a surgeon, and what kind would it be?
Tumblr media
Here is a range map of sturgeon species in North America (albeit one from 2013; this is the clearest one that I could find but take it with a grain of salt because populations have likely shifted/ dwindled since this map was created). As you can see, species present in eastern Canada include lake sturgeon (A. fulvescens), Atlantic sturgeon (A. oxyrinchus), and shortnose sturgeon (A. brevirostrum).
Lake sturgeon can be found in inland freshwater east of the Rocky Mountains.
Tumblr media
(A. fulvescens)
Shortnose and Atlantic sturgeon can be found off the eastern coast and in surrounding coastal rivers.
Tumblr media
(A. brevirostrum)
Tumblr media
(A. oxyrinchus)
To be honest with you, though, your best chance of seeing a sturgeon is probably in a museum, aquarium, or zoo. I believe they have Atlantic sturgeon in the Biodome in Montreal, and Ripley’s Aquarium in Toronto has multiple species of sturgeon.

Oh mamaaaaaaaa~
Modern AU....How does Gen do on Roadtrips with you? Does he like them? What snacks does he eat? Where's your guy's favorite place to go?
I mean....doesn't that just mean pre stone age world? 😂
Ok ok ok I may have some thoughts...
ɴᴏ ᴏɴᴇ ʟᴏᴏᴋ ᴀᴛ ᴛʜɪꜱ ᴏʀ ᴍᴇ ᴏʀ ᴀɴʏᴛʜɪɴɢ ᴇᴠᴇʀ ᴀɢᴀɪɴ ɢᴇᴛ ᴏᴜᴛ
Tumblr media
Car ride wise? I think he does fine. There's no debate if I'm the one driving or not I think Gen's more than happy to play passenger and not focus on the road. If I kill us then he can blame me for that and he's content with haunting me if I survive so yea I still totally drive
As an activity? I'd say he enjoys it with the right company. Roadtrips aren't a "hey it's two in the afternoon wanna drive three hours away?" kinda thing though. We can be spontaneous but more like in a 2-3day business days kind of spontaneous. When we get to our destination though (if it's more shopping/sight seeing based) then he doesn't have an issue going into every little shop we see on or off the road.
Snack wise it's candy. It's fucking candy that gets left in the car and could possibly melt but he then proceeds to just bit a hunk of whatever candy it is off the now kinda massive brick of his car snack and it's lowkey kinda hot shut up
Destination wise? I feel like we have a soft spot for things man made, if that makes sense? Lighthouses, rose gardens, art or science museums, cheesy tourist traps like Ripley's Believe It or Not, zoos and/or aquariums. Things that draw people in and if they're interactive bonus points. But we're like- Really good at being cheap as fuck and go during old people hours or early morning or something we get excited to get discounts at. Runner up to that is probably the coast. He likes to stand by the ocean but no touchy.

Currently on my way home from vacation! Spent a few days with my family in the Smokies/Gatlinburg area of Tennessee. Unfortunately I have to go back to work tomorrow but it was nice while it lasted. Pics under the cut! :)
This was our view from the cabin we stayed at. Pretty neat! Cabin was really nice too.
Tumblr media
Drove through Cade's Cove while we were there and stopped to walk back to one of the old log cabins that were built in the 1800's. The view from there was also incredible! Also, between me and you... I'm pretty sure that cabin was haunted... 😖
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Also, we saw like FIVE bears. Possibly six but it was unconfirmed. Here's some of them, but I'm gonna make another post with pics specifically from our hike on the Old Sugarlands Trail/Sugarlands Cemetery since bear #5 was spotted there. Anyways!
This first guy was just hanging out beneath the lift up to the Sky Bridge or whatever it's called lol. Later on when we took the lift down, he had walked farther down the mountain and climbed a tree next to the lift. Pretty neat we got to see a bear like the very first day of our trip, but also sucks that he's so comfy being around humans. Take note guys- this is why we DONT feed bears. :(
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
These other 3 bears were all together on the side of the road. Left two are babies and momma is on the right. <3 They were looking for scraps or scavenging, I believe.
Alsooo, we went to Ripley's Aquarium and I got to touch a jellyfish for the first time! I don't have pictures of that specifically but I do have a vid of the jellies swimming around in their tank lol.

I am going to Canada soon and was wondering if there is anything general I should see or do. I am planning to go to the Toronto area but any general places or experiences you recommend is good. Also I am a bit cheesy with the touristy stuff. (Aka I enjoy it)
hmmm lets see. i do think you should to the touristy stuff. CN tower, ripleys aquarium, ive always found them fun. i also love the AGO so if you like art galleries go there. theres also the ROM if you like museums. if you like amuesment parks and rides, making the small trip to canadas wonderland is totally worth it, i love that park so much, the rides are really good. oh, i do like visiting kensignton market from time to time, its a part of toronto, if you have time to walk around there for part of your day theres that. sorry for the generic answers, believe it or not i dont leave the house much lol (theres also like nothing to do in my part of the gta, [redacted city name] is so boring and i dont visit toronto that much). OH you should get lost in the PATH, thats like a quintessential part of experiencing downtown

If you could relive any of your memories, which would it be?
Hello! This is a really unique question and I love this ❤️ Note that the images that I'm using in this post aren't mine, so they'll be linked to the images for their sources. It was really hard to choose which one because I have quite a few good ones, but there's one that keeps drawing me back to it...
If I could relive any of my memories, it would be eating cheesecake *cough*
Honestly, I would love to go back to Newport, Oregon with my mom and my dad. We used to go every year in September for my birthday, from about the time I was 11 or 12 until I was about 15 or 16; we used to pack lunches and drinks in a cooler, then play car games (more toward when I was younger; I wasn't really interested as a teen) or I would usually draw in my sketchbook and listen to music in the back of the car. I also always brought my Nintendo DS Lite with me, changing between Pokémon or Mario games.
Newport is located near the ocean, so the air is crisp, salty, and cold (and, unfortunately, smells like fish in certain areas because of the docks and fisheries that are there). Unfortunately, I never actually got to go into the city portion of Newport, but I'd love to make that my next trip (after the Twilight Festival this September - woohoo!). I believe I've also been out to Agate Beach a few times, too. The docks are referred to as 'Sea Lion Docks' because, of course, they're constantly visited by Sea Lions. 🦭
Tumblr media
There's a Ripley's Believe-it-or-Not Museum, an aquarium, some restaurants (seafood is a must, of course), a sweets shop called Doodle Bugs, and several other places.
Tumblr media
Doodle Bugs has always been my favorite place to go and I literally refuse to leave Newport if I haven't stopped by 🤤 They sell so many different things — Saltwater Taffy, huge spiral rainbow suckers, chocolate covered pretzels, fudge squares, ice cream, coffee, and more!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
So, all in all, I think this would be the perfect memory (—ies) that I would relive if I had the chance. Maybe with the twist of going into the city, because I've always loved to explore ❤ Thank you for your ask (and sorry about the long winded response)!

004: Turks, Toronto & Texas
It's been a while! I hope you ain’t forget the kid! Life has been life-ing but we still here and the search continues.
So after graduation I started off my travels with a long overdue family vacation. This was MOST of the fam so just imagine 30 Jamaican's trying to navigate a cruise. It was with Carnival, which wasn't the best but I was there for the drinks and laughs! My first cruise ever was with Royal Caribbean and my standards were up. The ship went from Ft Lauderdale to carnivals private island in Bahamas, Puerto Plata in Dominican Republic, and Grand Turk in Turks and Caicos.I enjoyed the time, but I honestly wished I did something like this with my friends I feel like family cruising has it's limits. But overall I had a great time and got to see a few things.
More importantly I had PEOPLE TO SEE AND THINGS TO DO ON LAND!!! On my search I got an opportunity to work with an American heritage brand. they were looking for someone to shoot a visual campaign for a classic cent that was made specifically for a hotel in NYC that winter. So I went to work. I connected with my friend Vinny Seda, he was the perfect look for what the ad called for. the city was pretty cold and gloomy, so we tried to wrap filming on Lexington Ave early. Right before this shot Vinny says to me "bro you know it's supposed to snow tonight right? and it did. I hit roll and we film this walk on Lexington, and the snow falls on que! Still one of my favorite moments filming. Vinny and I have made some great stuff since. Give him a look that's my guy! So we finished the campaign the company loved it and I was off to my next adventure!
I arrive to Austin, Texas. The music festival season in the spring is always a great time. I'd visited Texas before, so as soon as I landed I grabbed me some Whataburger and connected with my guys Henny Retro and Prince-to get the adventure started. Austin during SXSW is always a place to see some of your future favorites and genuinely have run ins with some of your favorite people. From after parties to- smaller intimate shows. You never know what or where you'll end up. Now I was only there for three days before my next trip, so I had to make use of time. After sitting down with the guys and planning out a content capture schedule I sat down to think up some cool locations to film at. Years back A friend of mine and I had our car break down on the road when we went out for lunch and while we awaited the roadside, She brought me to a nearby Creek that was so beautiful, I promised I'd return. So I did! So now years later Here I am Trying to find my way back to this spot, honestly retracing my steps and I do find it. This time I save it in my index and we film a music video called "Hate or Shine" for Retroi$awesome. It looked like something out of Nat Geo haha! Following that we shot a nice Music Video for Henny Blanco. A memorable time with my brothas man I'm so glad that my last time in Texas was that much fun. But let's continue!
Before Heading home to Jersey I decided that I needed to Visit the six, a friend of mine was staying there and she invited me to come se the city! So hey why not?
I arrive In Ontario sometime the next day and I'm excited, I haven't been in Canada for over 4 years and would love to see what they got going on. After getting in and settled I met with a old friend and I hit the town, we visit the Ripley's believe it or not aquarium, the Rec room in downtown Toronto. It was a lot of fun, tthe first time really exploring downtown Toronto with someone from home felt refreshing. I was only there for 2 days so She surprised me with a dinner at the CN tower. The restaurant is still one of the coolest experiences ever. You take a huge elevator to the top and then when you walk in you see the counterclockwise rotation of the restaurant. I was so lost when I first walked in. I had to look at the floor. To recalibrate ahaha! We had so much fun and it was a blast but it was now time for me to take that trip back to Newark international for a nice tall glass of EWR blues.
To finish up my mini north American tour I reconnect with Retro and some of the MENTIS homies to visit the Brooklyn museum. One of my favorite Music artists Yasiin Bey (Mos Def) was debuting a new album that could only be heard in an art exhibit, Once played all the way through. No phones where allowed just you other fans and art lovers. Heck there was even a newborn baby was there! Everyone listening to the album and viewing the artwork. As Bey touched on life, death, and time. in the center of the exhibit was a huge moral tribute to the late Nipsey Hustle. Where he was immortalized in paint and beautiful tapestry. One thing I loved about the entire experience was that when you leave you feel apart of something larger than yourself and if you want to re-listen to the album you must look inward and recall the memory of sound. A real spiritual journey accessed by memory. "Negus" 5/5 stars.

2022 REVIEW AND 2023 Goals
Sitting here on December 31 makes me pat myself on the back. Wow, I'm taking the initiative to write this reflection! But I realized that I did not do this reflection last year. I completely missed 2021 in Review...and setting goals for 2022. Looking back through my photos, 2021 was the year that I (and the family) did the following things:
My mom and Celine's grandma took care of Leia for the first half of the year until Leia started at Montessori. What a big girl!
Leia started walking.
We took a trip to Kingston and Montreal to instil a sense of thrill, culture & adventure into the little one. It was cold.
I started a new role as a Product Manager, transitioning of the Product Marketing realm. It was a good move.
We bought bicycles and rode around the city, with Leia in the backseat. She loved the wind in her hair.
We got memberships to the Ripley's Aquarium. Leia loves fishies.
It's too late to go back and grade myself for 2021. It's irrelevant at this point a year later and looking backwards. I enjoyed 2021.
2022 was a tough year at the macro level. This impacted me as an individual, how I see things, and us as a family and society. This year saw war (Ukraine v Russia), strained political relations (overturn of Roe v Wade, human rights in Iran and Afghanistan), uncertain economic conditions (high inflation, high interest rates, falling stock and housing markets), and mass layoffs. In addition, not that it happened in 2022, but I've become more educated on the topic of climate change over the last 2 years and realized how humans are irreversibly harming our planet. All these events and realizations made 2022 a tough pill to swallow. On the home front, 2022 was a year of change and learning. I learned how to be patient (or how I need to be more patient), to be present, to be a father. I want to change to be a better father, husband, son, friend. I want to be a better version of myself.
RELATIONSHIP - A
Celine is my best friend. We talked about it today - if anyone asked me whether she was my best friend, I would say yes without hesitation, in a fraction of a second. I did a good job this year, prioritizing my wife. We spend more time together than ever before. We are together for almost every waking and sleeping moment, from the alarm ringing, to commuting, working (she literally sits either beside me or in the next room), picking up Leia, etc. I love that we get to be so close, and I get to spend so much time with this amazing human being. I admit that I have areas of improvement, to be more patient and attentive. I have and will continue to work on this.
PARENTHOOD - B
I'm still learning to be a father. Leia is almost 3 and in these years, I learned that kids are just silly humans. They just want to play and be happy. It's easy parenting during the fun times. The hard part is when the kids misbehave. I'm learning to be more patient in guiding Leia (and soon, Noah). I'm sure this will be an ever-evolving goal to work towards.
FAMILY - A
We did a good job in 2022 with family. Almost every weekend we see my family and in-laws. It was a good year building familial relationships (albeit this takes a toll on our own time as a family of 4).
FRIENDS - A
With the lockdown over, there are few excuses to not see friends. I continued to make efforts in this area. Those who reciprocate have been easy to plan for at park meetups or casual hangouts. For those that are constantly busy, I made a pronounced effort to create hangouts. These events were initially frustrating, but I am a firm believer that if we don't create these moments today, we will regret them tomorrow.
CAREER - B
I learned a lot at the expense of my sanity. For most of the year, I had to lead and manage a team without cross-functional leadership. While this was a great opportunity to demonstrate my own leadership, it took a toll on my mental health. I often felt like I was just working without a clear career goal in mind. I give myself an A+ for work ethic and output, but a C for clarity for myself.
TRAVEL - A
We spent two weeks in SoCal, exploring San Francisco, Napa, Yosemite and Silicon Valley. Leia loved it (I think!). Celine and I loved traveling again. It was great to breathe mountain air, eat delicious food, sleep in a hotel/B&B and fly again, all while figuring out the logistics with a toddler. Good job :) we also did a short trip to Ottawa.
HEALTH - B
I did very little in 2022. I blame some part of this on hurting myself on multiple occasions (e.g. bruised leg, hand-foot-mouth disease, cut my finger with a knife), but most of it was due to my lack of motivation. I found a rhythm in the Fall with the Peloton/Echelon bike, and recently began calisthenics with parallettes. 2023 will be a year that I rekindle my love for my body.
FINANCE - A
We met expectations in this category. Finances stayed normal, spending was not too high or too low. We continued to put money away, and save for the long term. That said, 2022 was a bad year for ROI as the stock market tumbled, cutting out a lot of the gains we had in our portfolio. We don't plan to crystallize these losses but it still hurts to see. I am glad that we refinanced at a low rate.
PERSONAL - C
I didn't read or think much this year. Compared to 2021 where I read 20-30 books, the number of books I read this year I could count on my fingers. I was not as proactive in 2022, perhaps because the year was characterized by many things to do, including house things, renovations, work stuff, exploring international career roles, parenting stuff, Celine pregnant stuff, etc. Yes, these are excuses. I should be more proactive.
2023 GOALS
RELATIONSHIP
I will be more patient, especially in arguments.
I will proactively think about and do what my wife needs or wants.
I will support my wife in her personal and professional goals.
I will be an attentive and caring husband, and try to be positive in the most difficult situations. I will listen first and offer an opinion if suitable in the situation.
I will be cognizant that my wife is stressed from taking care of the baby and try to relieve her stress as much as possible.
I will recognize milestones and also everyday events because life is short.
I will be present. No phones!
PARENTHOOD
I will be more patient with the kids, especially when they misbehave.
I will read 3 books on parenting techniques.
I will be present. No phones!
FAMILY
I will be present. No phones!
FRIENDS
I will strengthen existing bonds by proactively staying in touch with friends and recognizing special occasions.
CAREER
I will take control and find a path that I am passionate about.
I will consistently evaluate my skills and proactively find ways to fill the gaps, either through structured learning (courses), unstructured (books) and/or experience (asking to lead a project).
TRAVEL
I will plan a trip with Celine and the kids that is >4 weeks.
I will instil a curiosity, adventure and excitement in the kids.
HEALTH
I will workout >3x per week for >30min per session.
I will be able to hold the L-sit for 30s, 45s and then 60s.
I will be able to do a handstand.
I will eat more protein and vegetables, and less sugars.
I will eat more fruits and drink more water (at least 2L daily).
FINANCE
I will continue shifting the finances on a monthly basis to ensure that Celine and I are tracking towards our retirement goals.
I will spend less money on products and more on experiences.
I will cut back on impromptu purchases.
I will continue saving money for myself, Celine and the kids.
PERSONAL
I will read 1 book per month (12 for the year).
I will think about my life and plan proactively to create a meaningful life that I am proud of and happy for.
I will focus on inputs (what I can control) and less on outputs (what I cannot control).
FAVOURITE MOMENTS OF 2022
Watching Leia doing regular, daily things like sleep (and cuddle her blanket), eat fruits (like pomegranate) and dance.
Lying in bed with Leia and Celine on Sunday mornings, rolling around and eating pistachios and yogurt bites.
Riding the bike with Leia to the beach, and watching her kick sand around and throw rocks into the lake.
Hiring someone to cut down the two giant trees in our backyard. it was expensive but heck it was worth it to get rid of the eyesores.
Seeing Noah via ultrasound, then seeing Noah born IRL! He looked so much like me that I had to do a double take.
Going on a date with Leia (while Celine was out with friends). We went to the park, ate pizza and strolled home in the dark.
Going to SoCal and then learning I had hand-foot-mouth disease. It was painful, but I was glad it healed quickly so I could explore the coast, the city, and the mountains with Leia and Celine.
