I remember on the run-up to the release of Harry Styles' 2022 film MY POLICEMAN a critic I followed on Twitter would rave in reminiscence of seeing the love scene at some pre-screening and how revolutionary it was. Then when the film was released he walked back his raves because it wasn't how he remembered it and he admitted to maybe over-egging it because he was so happy to see a a gay love scene.

But here's to films/tv shows that don't over-egg. That don't gas up the sex scenes so that when viewers finally see it they'd be like

Instead they could be pleasantly surprised much like I was when I saw Ira Sach's PASSAGES

and the Paramount+ limited series FELLOW TRAVELERS.

Ben Whishaw, I have too much respect for you to nearly stare into your bumhole. I lreserve that for when I'm watching Aaron Taylor-Johnson in SAVAGES.

If only the relationship between Ben and Franz's characters was this wholesome in the film.

-Ben is rumoured to be dating his THIS IS GOING TO HURT costar Kadiff Kirwan of MY POLICEMAN and currently in SLOW HORSES and the charming C4 comedy EVERYONE ELSE BURNS (which is airing in the US on the CW).

Next up for Ben?

Netflix's thriller BLACK DOVES where he will play the longtime confidante of Keira Knightley's Helen.

-He has a short film that people are hoping for Oscars consideration, which will be tough when Wes Anderson's quartet of short films

are out there, but surely it's better than the pair of Pedro Almodovar's short films STRANGE WAY OF LIFE and THE HUMAN VOICE

What is GOOD BOY about?

-A long ways off is the third installment of the PADDINGTON films. PADDINGTON IN PERU will be released November 2024 in the UK and January 2025 in the U.S. Due to the SAG-AFTRA strike Rachel Zegler (THE HUNGER GAMES: THE BALLAD OF SONGBIRDS AND SNAKES) has departed the project. She has been replaced by Gina Cabot of HBO Espana's 30 MONEDAS/ 30 COINS (whose second series is currently airing on Max).

Happy 20th Anniversary to THE blorbo ever, the icon, the legend, the moment, my favorite muse and fictional bestie, Miss Jenny "XJ-9" Wakeman!! 💙🤍🥳✨

I'mma try and keep this from being too mushy, but I really can't overstate how much this show really meant to me growing up, both creatively and emotionally. Jenny was one of the first female characters I felt I could really truly relate to, and learning to draw her had a big hand to play in my ability to draw today.

Thank you to Rob Renzetti, Alex Kirwan, John Fountain, Janice Kawaye, and the rest of the cast and crew that made this show and character so special to me and countless others. Here's to 20 more years of loving this wonderful lady!! 🥂🎉

Funny you should mention My Life as a Teenage Robot and wanting a revival. Starting in August 2023 (aka the show's 20th anniversary), series creator Rob Renzetti did write a continuation of the show called Alternaversity on his online newsletter (here: https://robrenzetti.com/newsletter-archive/ ) which went on until May 6 2025. While sadly not in animated form, it is at least something to continue the story, complete with art director Alex Kirwan returning to provide illustrations. Thoughts that it got some form of continuation at all?

I still haven't read it as I forget it exists a lot, but I am glad it came back and would be glad to see it get animated. The name alone sounds intresting and i'm glad nick didn't stop it or anything. I also hope sheldon is long dead but alas you cannot get everything

Biografia

Estilo

Cada desenho era precedido por uma infinidade de esboços. Ele era cuidadoso com cada detalhe do fundo. Cada desenho contém camadas de cores. Ele adorava estudar padrões. Azulejos, tijolos e dobras de tecido são cuidadosamente descritos a cada marca de caneta. Ele adorava usar um espelho para refletir o restante da imagem que pudesse ter se perdido.

Impacto e legado cultural

Kirwan indicou que seus temas foram inspirados pelas pessoas que ele conheceu no que ele chamou de "reino homo" da vida cotidiana. Os críticos elogiaram sua representação de pessoas comuns. 

Em 2003, Wayne Snellen, diretor do Museu de Arte Leslie-Lohman, escreveu:

Em 2018, a Fundação Tom of Finland escreveu: "Os desenhos de Michael expunham a excitação febril e a beleza erótica em cada corpo e rosto. Michael sempre dizia que não desenhava homens “bonitos” porque sabia que os homens normais tinham relações sexuais melhores."

okay so anyway this would be above anything else - a dramatic, dark, moody conceptual art rock album that heavily draws inspiration from early horror films and gothic literature (think hitchcock's psycho meets wuthering heights). Production wise I want Rob Kirwan (producer for Hozier's first album), Brandon Eggleston, Aaron Dessner, and Justin Vernon. Ideally it would feature the following key elements - a catholic liturgical choir singing on at least one track, HEAVY use of piano, organ, and cello, some weird or typically uncommon instrument for one track at least - maybe a singing saw or a theramin, at least half the album is in a minor key, two fully instrumental tracks, taylor learns to play the upright bass for this, ZERO social media promo or discussion about it (I need her to be so weird), and the aesthetics are dark cabaret meets baroque catholicism.

Over the past few weeks, I’ve been working on redesigning the opening background of @alexkirwan‘s short “Magic Trixie” from Oh Yeah! Cartoons for a class & portfolio project.

It was a bit of a hassle at times, but I think it ended up looking pretty good!

Long before his time on Gravity Falls, Samurai Jack or The Powerpuff Girls, Rob Renzetti and I worked together on a number of projects at Hanna-Barbera and he was one of my first choices to join us at Oh Yeah! Cartoons in the late 90s. There's no one I'd rather work with, a super nice man with originality, creativity and integrity. I was so confident of Rob's creative and directing chops that he was offered a six short deal, with no advance look at any of his ideas (well, one exception. I asked him to bring over the great characters from his H&B short, Mina & the Count; he ended up doing six more for Oh Yeah!).

Then, on his sixth short, Rob scored! One of the most beloved cartoons of the 2000′s. With a quick name change, “My Neighbor was a Teenage Robot,” dropped on August 1, 2003 and left behind 40 comedy filled, sci-fi tinged, truly one of the Best Original cartoon series.
