Appreciation post for my KISS concert outfit ❤️‍🔥
The make up was super rushed and messy due to uncool train shenanigans (cancellations and massive delays) and very limited getting ready time at the hostel the day of, but otherwise I'm so so so happy with how everything turned out!
I didn't have a solid vision, it all somehow came together in the end though! 🦊💕
In the words of one of the many people who complimented my look (and asked to take photos with me): ERIC CARR IS ALIVE! ✨
Outfit rundown:
- Hair is my own, kept in Rachel Maksy style foam curlers for the duration of my train odyssey before the event
- Ears are ages old clip-ons I got at an anime convention, removed the bows and bells and added the pink lining (quickly handsewn on the train a couple hours before the concert)
- Choker is completely handmade with an ankh pendant I got at an antique market a few years ago, most of the gems are glued down due to time constraints, some are sewn because they fell off on the journey to the concert and I had to make the collar look symmetrical/make the gap above the attached pendant look intentional lol
- Fake fur collar and legwarmers are completely handmade with fabric I found at a store a couple cities away, acquiring said fabric was an entire day's journey in itself but my best option with what little time I had lol, just the right amount left on the bolt, super worth the $$$ I spent on it, so soft and fluffy, kept me cozy in the chilly stadium, definitely destiny, both of these were the stars of the whole ensemble imho
- Armbands and wrist cuffs are completely handmade, not as bedazzled and shiny due to time constraints once again, but they definitely help pull the look together <3
- Shaping bodysuit I'm wearing underneath to keep my saggy chest flaps in place is thrifted, literally purchased a day before the concert, destiny once again, this might actually become a staple piece for other low-cut neckline looks in the future <3 doesn't compress as much as a binder would, but definitely flatter and more secure than a sports bra!
- Black long-sleeved bodysuit is a fleamarket find, had to cut open and extend the crotch closure flaps to fit my long torso and added some sew-on gems along the hips and around the lace up detail neckline (which you can't see here because the fur collar covered it all up lol)
- Black leather waist belt with studs was another incredibly lucky fleamarket find and such a steal for only 3 bucks!!! perfect KISS vibes <333
- Basic black leggings were a thrift find for only 30 cents(!!!), added all the sequins one by one by hand (front and back)
- Shoes are buffalo platforms I treated myself to back in 2021, they were on sale and I've always wanted a pair of platforms and they're the only ones I own so with the outfit they went lol
- Fingerless gloves are an old fraying at the edges pair I got many moons ago at the german equivalent of a dollar store as a teen, there was no time to go looking for black leather fingerless driving gloves
Even though this was for the occasion of the very final last world tour, I kinda want to keep working on and improving this costume and take it to conventions, maybe even to KISS tribute band concerts/events if there ever are any near me!
I've really fallen in love with this outfit over the weeks and days I've collected and crafted all the pieces and I feel so confident and handsome wearing it, getting closer to my ideal of looking feminine in a masculine way 💕💕💕

TIM DRAKE X Y/N-Headcanons with a reader that he's known since childhoo
I'm doing rich y/n cuz rich kids usually are allowed to interact only with rich kids and realistically in gotham I can see the parents being weary ( this may be slightly inaccurate my bestie is rich but I'm not so I asked her for a little help so...yea )
Getting to know you was maybe the biggest privilege he has as Drake's kid. Your parents prolly made you guys hang out a lot since you were really young. Rich people have these big ass private dinners at restraunts or at home which are so so boring and you and him would just excuse yourself with the excuse of "checking out the property" .
You have had the wildest adventures, once you guys somehow found an exit from the property and it was on the hills so you just roamed around a forest- got lost- slide down a hill and went back to the restaurant with holes in your clothes and mud in your hair. Or the habit of pushing each other in the fountains and swimming pool
The only reason your parents put up with this is because rich wants to marry rich and so two of you being together was a way you both could be free.
I can also see you guys carrying a small change of clothes underneath the fancy gala gown/suits or dinner dresses and sneaking out from the parties to eat greasy food, hit up shady places or concerts, go to the skate park or even just sit up on the rooftop and smoke greens
NOW I DO BELIEVE THAT TIM DOES A LIL WEED..and therefore you do too. but you keep each other in moderation and only do it when you guys are together ( ill make a separate post about this if you guys comment that you want one?)
When his mom dies, you are there. when your parents are being shit he is there. you guys support each other through rich loneliness ( rich kids don't have real friends type of thing) and honestly you guys are happy to just be together .
he sneaks up your balcony , you help him build those detective boards. you know everything, he just doesn't know how to no rush to you and tell you everything.
When he becomes robin, you prolly already knew bruce cause rich people know rich people. Bruce just thinks of you guys as a combined package (like literally everyone else) one can not exist without the other sort of situation.
you guys probably always talked about running away, in great detail.
so many irritating references and inside joke, you guys are unbearable but u don't care. sucks to be bitchless.
he would leave it all for you , say the word. he cant live without you, he doesn't know how to, he never wants to learn.

Okay, how about gentle yandere Robin x childhood friend reader headcanon? The reader wants to travel, but Robin does not want to allow it.
Tumblr media
since childhood, you and robin have been the closest of friends. inseparable, even. sunday was well known to be protective of his younger sister, even sometimes becoming wary of others if they remained too close. but you were an exception.
throughout the years of your guys' friendship, the two of you were always together. whenever she had a concert or a show to put on, you were always there to support her, even taking control of behind the scenes in order to make sure everything progresses well. because of your guys' friendship, there were often rumors that the two of you were in a relationship. but you'd sheepishly laugh, brush it off, and correct the others saying that you two were just friends!
...but did robin see you that way?
but you began to ponder about the cosmos. your life was always within the dreamscape, as you wanted to be closer to your friend. but you always wanted to see more than just penacony. you've heard about the nameless, how they adventured throughout the cosmos to see all different kinds of things... you were too much in the comfort zone to really embrace the sweet escape of seeing the multiverse, but you decided to embrace the new change.
you were ready - and you had to tell your best friend about it.
"you wanted to see me?" robin smiled as she approached you, her smile beaming brightly as her gaze softens upon seeing you, "surely, you aren't thinking about going out to eat again. please let me pay this time." a hand was placed over her chest, a soft laugh ensuing from the halovian.
"actually..." you face her, looking down at your feet sheepishly. robin tilts her head, blinking innocently.
"what is it, (y/n)?"
"...i was thinking about the world."
robin blinked again. "the world? here... penacony?"
"well, more than that, actually." you nod slowly, raising your chest a bit. "i...want to travel the cosmos. i know my entire life, i've been here in penacony, and...i just wanted to see what it's like outside of reality. the nameless, they go everywhere. i want to be able to travel with them, or even see the cosmos. so i decided to tell you, and...this is my final decision. if you want, you can come with me! i can even talk to sunday, and we can see the world toge-
"i can't let you do that."
your words came to a sudden stop, feeling your heart drop a bit.
"...huh? robin... but i-"
"i know," you see her fists clench softly, her brows furrowed, "i understand that you want to see the cosmos. but you need to realize that the cosmos is," she stepped closer to you, taking hold of your hands, "dangerous. what if i lose you? my...one and only friend. it's dangerous and i can't leave you my side. please, stay here. sunday and i will protect you."
your eyes widen a bit, and you felt the warmth of her hands embrace yours. but you pulled your hands away.
"robin...i'm sorry. but this is my final decision. please don't see me as weak, because you know i can handle myself. i spoke with the nameless, and they're more than happy to have me join their crew."
"you don't understand, (y/n)." robin raised her voice a bit, protectively. she breathed, her tone shaking, "please. you can't leave. i won't allow it!"
you blinked again, surprised by her sudden outburst, "robin, i-"
"you are not allowed to leave me."
you froze in shock, unsure what to say next, "...but i'm not really leaving you. i can text you, call you everyday if you're so worried-"
"why are you so desperate to leave me?"
robin's gaze had darkened a bit, and it nearly scared you. was this the same robin that you knew since childhood? she took hold of your hand, this time, her grip was tight. despite her frail figure, she had alot of strength to put in that grip.
"...i'm...i'm not going to leave you. i just told-"
"you aren't allowed to leave me. i won't repeat myself." robin said, threateningly, before a smile forms on her lips. it was innocent, yet the darkness in her eyes said otherwise, "i'll make sure of it."
"huh? what are you-"
robin lifted her hand, gently waving it across your face. a hypnotizing-like spell, and you felt yourself feeling lost into the darkness. you slumbered away, and your final words for that moment were,
"robin..."

You're writing is godly. Can you take a shot at
09.  “I should’ve told you back then, but I didn’t want you to leave.”
Writing Prompts | No longer accepting new prompts
It was the first time in ten years that Steve Harrington had seen Eddie Munson in person, and it was from what felt like miles away in shitty seats up on the balconies, the only saving grace was that Eddie was being tracked like prey by the camera guys, each step, each sway of his hair, each manic, dimpled, toothy grin blown up larger than life on the big screens on either side of the stage. The rest of the band blown up on the ones in the back.
He wasn’t looking at the ones in the back, although the guys suited being up there.
“Steve… he’s uh… Eddie I mean, corroded coffin, they’re playing, y’know? In Indy? Dustin got tickets, but… well they’re not the best tickets, nothing VIP or close to the pit or anything, I don’t think Eddie even knows Dustin’s going, but… we could at least go and see him perform…” it’d been Robin that’d mentioned it, none of them had seen Eddie in person.
He kept in touch when he could with Dustin and his little adventurers, Lucas, Mike, and Erica. But he’d left Hawkins behind with nothing there to hold him back.
There could have been.
Steve knew there could have been, Eddie had told him the night before he’d packed his stuff and left, bore his heart to him in his backyard, hair haloed by the blue light that shimmered off of the pool, nervous but hopeful, he’d offered his heart on a silver platter and Steve… god…
He hadn’t known.
He hadn’t known just how much Eddie meant to him until he was gone, off to stardom with his band, leaving a possible life behind for something else. Could have, should have, would have, it made no difference in the end. Steve had said no when he really meant he needed time to work out his feelings, he’d shut down the possibility before it could grow, and had regretted it ever since.
Eddie had been gone by the following morning, he’d only said goodbye to the kids. Apparently there’d been a record deal offered at his last gig, and his choice depended entirely on whether or not Steve said yes.
Part of him wished he’d have been selfish, part of him wished he’d known his own heart before he’d stupidly let the rejection slip out, things would have been different… but then… Eddie wouldn’t have had this.
He wouldn’t have had a stage, an audience of thousands cheering for him in awe. He would’ve been stuck, in Hawkins, a place that still hated him… Steve was happy for him, truly. Happy that he’d made it, even if it meant Steve could never have him. He could stomp around the stage dressed in denim and leather and shred on a guitar in a way that made Steve’s ears ring but his heart happy, he’d never be tied down to a place that hated him.
He'd never be stuck where the past could haunt him. He could be happy even if Steve couldn’t.
The gig was amazing though, even if Steve stook out like a sore thumb, he’d done his best, wore a little eyeliner, mussed up his hair, he wore Eddie’s old battle vest with the blood stains still visible cause he’d never been able to get them out and Eddie had never taken it back, had seen Steve still had it after they’d won and claimed “it looks better on you anyway” he still looked like someone’s out of place dad, but he was surrounded by the party so, it didn’t matter. Nobody was paying attention to him, nobody was looking for him, Eddie wouldn’t see him from so far away, probably couldn’t even see the row in front of his face with the lights shining on him so brightly.
And yet near the end of the concert, while the band were wrapping up on their final song (before the inevitable encore the audience demanded of them, Dustin claimed it’d probably wind up being Upside Down, or Pariah, two songs he’d always claimed had been inspired by ‘his past’ from the bands last album, they were fan favourites.) A burly guy dressed in a black crew neck with a big white ‘SECURITY’ stretched over his broad chest, flagged him down.
Steve motioned to his ears, he couldn’t hear shit over the music, and could barely hear shit on a regular day, but that particular security guard, simply signed the words:
‘Not in trouble, come with me.’ confidently, as if he knew Steve would understand it. Only when Steve frowned in confusion and signed back
‘why’ did the guy thrust his thumb over into the stage’s direction. The band.
Steve, feeling suspicious, turned to look toward the party, only to find Dustin giving him a thumbs up, and Robin making shoo motions with her hands. Scheming little shits knew he wouldn’t think twice about attending if the seats were so far away. Would think it was safe, that he wouldn’t have to face Eddie. Face his terrible decision that worked out for one of them but not the other.
He wouldn’t have to find himself waiting backstage in a quiet room behind a door labelled ‘Talent’ because of course he’d go. His traitorous legs and heart would force him to go at the mere chance of seeing Eddie again, of seeing him up close, of talking to him, of the chance to fix a mistake he’d made years ago even if his new answer wouldn’t change anything between them. It’d been too long, Eddie wouldn’t still want him when he could have anyone.
If they had told him, he wouldn’t have to see Eddie, quietly (a word not many used to describe the man) enter, his back facing Steve as he closed the door just as quietly as he’d entered. His hair was longer.
The curls fuller, they reached down to his mid-back now and glistened with a mixture of product and sweat, Steve still wanted to touch, still mourned the fact that he’d never gotten the chance to.
“Y’know… When ol Dusty bun said he’d get you here… I wish I’d have believed him. I owe him 20 bucks now.”
“You bet on me coming?” Of course he did.
Eddie turned to face him, a small wistful smile on his cheeks that just hinted the presence of dimples. “Wouldn’t you if you were in my place? Steeeeve Harrington, at a metal concert? Pfft, seems a bit farfetched. You even dressed up too, shit, man, I guess that’s forty bucks. Vest still suits you more.” Steve let his head duck down a little, his cheeks warming under the mans gaze, unsure of the feeling within it. He didn’t know Eddie anymore…
Had he ever really known Eddie though? Had he ever given them chance to know each other outside of sharing trauma and comparing matching scars?
“…Why?”
“Hm?”
“Why am I back here, Eddie? Why’d you call me back here? Why not the party, they’re here too, they’d probably wanna see you too, it’s been years… why?”
“Ah. Dustin told me to, said I should have another go at something I tried years ago that didn’t pan out very well for me the first time around… has been chatting my ear off about it every time he calls… I guess I finally humoured him.” Something he tried years ago? Involving Steve? “Listen, Steve… I—”
Steve cut in, he shouldn’t have, but words just… had to burst from him driven by a flickering ember of hope, he had to, even if it wasn’t the path Eddie’s words were taking, he had to, with hope driving him on “I should’ve told you back then, but I didn’t want you to leave.” Eddie’s mouth shut, his head tilting to the side a little in uncertain interest “I didn’t know… I should have just told you, I didn’t… I wasn’t sure, shit, Eddie… I’d never… you—I’d never felt like… like that for a guy before… I didn’t know what it meant, I should have said—I should have told you that I just needed more time… that I wasn’t ready to answer but… but I didn’t want you to leave. I didn’t know you’d be gone by the time I woke up. By the time I realised I was wrong, you were gone.” He wanted time, but his words had come out wrong.
He’d stumbled through them like he stumbled through everything, struggled to get the right words out and they’d wound up wrong. So so very wrong. “And you didn’t think to call?”
“Heh, you were on your way to fame, Eddie and you didn’t exactly leave a number, Dustin told me you had a chance at stardom… why would I want to weigh you down? Where would I fit in in this life of yours, Eddie? I’m no one, you could have anyone.”
“Mmn, anyone. Even if the one I want believes himself to be no one?” Hope burned brighter, its embers brilliant and warm. “So… can I try again? Or was Dustin wrong?”
“Did you make a bet with him about this too?”
“Absolutely, I’d owe him two hundred bucks if he’s right.”
“Would it be worth it if I said try again?”
“God, Sunshine, I’d drain my entire bank account right into that little buttheads pocket without a care in the world if it meant he was right… i never stopped...” Eddie stepped closer, "I never stopped wanting... even though I wished for the longest time that I could stop... it's always been you, Steve..." now close enough to be within reach, his voice quiet but hopeful “so... is he right? Should I try again?”
“…Please try again.” This time… he wouldn’t be saying no.

You never thought you’d be going into the Upside Down again. But, here you are in a big ass grassy area with your boyfriend, Eddie. As well as your brother Dustin, Nancy, Robin and Steve, the Sinclair siblings, and Max. You had been roped into the adventures of the Upside Down ever since the beginning.
Steve and Nancy were a part of the adventures from the beginning, Max joined during Dart’s adventure, Robin and Erica joining you lot last year. Now, your boyfriend was a part of this adventure; The Adventures of Vecna, as you liked to call it.
You watched as Eddie and Dustin hammered some nails into a couple of tin garbage can lids.
“So, how did you two end up together?” Dustin asked. “Neither of you really talked about it.”
You looked at Eddie and he at you, a small smile on his face before he went back to hammering. “Well, she caught my eye when I was sophomore, a scared little freshman-”
“I wasn’t scared!” you exclaimed.
Both boys chuckled at your exclamation before Eddie continued. “Okay. Not scared, but… confused. She was confused. Not knowing where to go. I walked up to her as she was looking at her schedule like she was mad at it.”
“When he walked up to me, I got scared. Like, jumping out of my skin, scared. I didn’t know he was walking up to me, despite all the chains he was sporting.” You chuckled at Eddie’s smile. He was proud of his chains.
“It was loud and busy with all the freshmen trying to make their way around,” he chuckled. Going back to his task, he cleared his throat. “Anyway. I showed her where her locker was and looked at her schedule, seeing that most of her classes were near mine.”
“He took me to every single one,” you smiled, remembering that day as if it were yesterday.
“I saw her at one of the lunch tables, sitting alone with a book in her hands as she ate lunch. I ditched my friends to go and talk to her, but she didn’t talk back.”
“So, Eddie, here, had slipped a note into my locker after lunch, telling me to meet him in the woods right behind the school.” You were taken back to that day as Eddie explained your meeting in the woods.
Walking around in the woods was something you never found yourself doing, but here you were. In the woods. After school. To meet a boy. A cute boy with shoulder length hair, wearing a denim jacket and black jeans. The very same boy that you were thinking about appeared out of nowhere in the woods, scaring you.
He held up a hand, a smile on his face as he said, “Sorry.”
With a hand over your heart, you exhaled, trying to get your heartbeat back to normal. “No, that’s okay. You’re fine. It’s my fault, really, for getting scared. I didn’t hear you walk up.”
“You didn’t hear the leaves?”
Shaking your head, you tried to hold back a smile. “Nope.”
He tried to hide his own smile as he looked off to the side a little. “I’m Eddie, by the way. Eddie Munson.  I don’t know if I told you my name at lunch.”
You shook your head again, lips between your teeth. “Nope, but it’s very nice to meet you, Eddie. I’m Y/N Henderson.”
“Well, it’s very nice to meet you, M’lady Henderson.”
A giggle erupted from your throat, your hand flying to your mouth to try and conceal it. Looking over to the picnic table, you gestured over to it, asking Eddie if he wanted to sit down and talk, to which he agreed.
Eddie could swear that by hearing you laugh, he wanted to hear it forever. As the two of you sat down, you looked at his shirt, seeing the words Hellfire Club on it with some type of dice, a sword, a demon head and morning star weapon.
“What’s Hellfire Club?” you asked.
Looking down at his shirt, Eddie explained, “Oh, it’s this club I started last year.”
You raised a brow, your interest piqued. “What kind of club?”
“D&D.” When he looked back up at you, he saw a very confused look on your face. Chuckling, he said, “Dungeons and Dragons. It’s a fantasy board game.”
“Wait, with like, monsters and shit?”
Letting out a light laugh while looking down at the table, Eddie said, “Yeah. With monsters and shit.”
Bringing your arm up to the table, you rested your elbow on the tabletop, resting your chin in your hand. “I think my little brother is trying to get into it. Him and his little friends keep talking about it.”
“You have a little brother?” Eddie asked.
Nodding, you smiled a little. “I do. He’s annoying, like most younger siblings are, but I’m more than grateful to have him. He’s the missing piece my mom and I didn’t know we needed.”
Eddie wanted to know more about you. “What about your dad?” Waving him off, you replied, “Eh, he’s deadbeat. Well, not really. He just… took off not long after Dustin was born.”
“I’m sorry to hear that.”
“It’s fine. He was an asshole anyway, from what I can remember.” You looked into Eddie’s eyes and wanted to know about him instead of talking about yourself. “What about you? What’s your family like?”
“There’s not much to say, really. My dad’s in prison, and my mom died when I was young.”
“Oh, Eddie,” you said, hesitantly reaching your hand across the table. “I’m so sorry to hear that.”
He looked at your hand before timidly putting his hand on yours, instantly finding comfort. Eddie was fifteen and you were fourteen, but that didn’t stop the tingles that shot through both of your hands.
Flipping your hand over, you watched as Eddie lightly traced random shapes into your palm. “You know, uhm, this isn’t the first time we’ve… hung out.”
Confused as ever, you looked at him with scrunched eyebrows. “No?”
Stopping his fingers, he looked at you, asking, “You don’t remember?”
Trying to rack your brain, your eyes danced all around; at his shirt, his rings, the trees behind him, the tabletop, but you ended up coming up short. “I’m sorry. I-”
“That’s okay,” he said.
Watching as he looked past you for a moment, you wanted to say something that would help to put his mind at ease, but a gasp sounding from you had the words dying in your throat as Eddie pretended to stab himself in the heart, falling from the table bench.
“Oh, my god!” you exclaimed.
“I wouldn’t remember me either, Y/N,” Eddie said, standing up. Brushing the leaves from his body, you giggled, watching as he ran his fingers through his hair, asking, “Do I have something in my hair?”
It felt like forever since you genuinely laughed at someone being so silly. You weren’t used to it anymore. Hanging out with your best friend, Steve Harrington, would do that to you, especially when it came to watching his basketball practices and then heading straight home.
But laughing at Eddie’s antics felt natural, like you’d been doing it your whole life. You wanted to have that feeling for a long time with him.
Bringing you out of your thoughts, Eddie asked, “You don’t remember me?” with his arms crossed, a small smile on his face.
Chuckling, you responded, “I’m sorry.”
“Middle school,” he said. “Talent show. You were doing this dance thing. Ya’know, the-” He shimmied, which caused you to giggle at him. “-thing that you do. It was pretty cool, actually. You were a really good dancer.”
“Still am,” you smiled. “I still dance.”
He smirked, saying, “And I… I was with my band.”
As if a bus hit you with realization, you gasped, holding your hands up before exclaiming, “Corroded Coffin!”
At the same time he punched his own hand and turned around, saying, “Corro– you do remember!” you were also saying, “Oh, my god! Yes, of course! With a name like that, how could I forget? You guys introduced me to metal!”
“I knew it,” he said, coming back to the table to lean on the top, your foreheads almost touching. “You’re a freak.”
“Yeah,” you chuckled. “Thanks to you. But you just… you looked totally-”
“Different? Yeah, well, my hair was buzzed and I didn’t have any tattoos yet.”
“You have tattoos?” you asked, almost too excitedly.
“One.” Shifting on the bench to face his right arm towards you, he lifted his sleeve, showing a two legged dragon. “It’s called a wyvern. It’s a creature from D&D.”
Leaning on the table with a small smile, you brought your hand up to trace the outside of his permanent ink. “It looks creepy, but it’s cool. But you’re a minor. How did you get it?”
Slowly pulling his sleeve back down as you sat back on the bench, he sighed. “My dad. Said he wanted to give me a birthday present to remember. So, he took me to the tattoo shop last year for my fourteenth birthday, and said to pick out any design they had. I ended up talking to the tattoo artist about D&D for a little while. The dude said he would tattoo something, and out came this.”
“Is that how you got into D&D or had you been into it for a while before that?” you wondered.
“Was into it for a little while. Where I was at within the campaigns, I hadn’t come across the wyvern yet.” He looked you, something shining in his eyes that you couldn’t decipher. “Hey, thanks.”
“For what?” you asked, tucking your lips between your teeth.
Shrugging, he said, “For listening.”
Smiling, you said, “No problem. Now, back to the band thing. You played guitar, right?”
Eddie nodded, looking at your hand before reaching across the table to continue his shapes from earlier. “Still do. Still do.” He looked back into your eyes, seeing that they were already on him before he added, “You should come see us. We play at The Hideout on Tuesday’s.”
“Isn’t that a bar?” you asked.
“My uncle knows the owner,” he whispered, slightly narrowed eyes.
You nodded and breathed out a chuckle. “Okay.”
“It’s pretty cool. We actually get a crowd of about five… drunks.”
Laughing again, you couldn’t help but let yourself get immersed in the boy that was Eddie Munson. “Doesn’t seem like it’s Madison Square.”
“It’s not,” he agreed. “But you gotta start somewhere, right? So…”
After a moment of comfortable silence between the two of you, you couldn’t help but talk without your filter. “Ya’know, you’re not what I’d thought you’d be like.”
“Mean and scary?” he asked, quietly.
“Yeah,” you whispered.
“Yeah, well, I actually thought you’d be kind of mean and scary.” “Me?” you exclaimed.
“Terrifying,” he smiled. “What, with your quietness and reading and shit.”
All you could do was look at him, a small smile on your lips. The two of you talked until you could hear the distant ringing of your name being called, Eddie being kind enough to walk you to the edge of the woods, where Steve was waiting for you.
Turning to Eddie, you placed a hand on his arm and said, “I had a nice time, Eddie. Really.”
Grabbing your hand, Eddie wrapped your fingers around his before he bent and kissed your knuckles, a smile on his face as he replied, “Until next time, m’lady.”
After that day in the woods, you two hung out on Tuesday nights, and when you weren’t hanging out with Steve. Before long, the two of you were a couple. Hearing the whispers about you two didn’t bother you at all. Eddie made you realize that you didn’t care what others thought about you.
You still dressed in what he would call your “preppy” clothes, and he still dressed in his. The moment he let you wear his denim jacket on a date because you were cold, you stole it and never returned it. He didn’t mind, though, because for your very first Christmas together, you had bought him the exact jacket he gave you.
He ended up cutting the sleeves off of it and glued something about Dio on the back of it, band buttons on the front of it with a patch that you had ironed on for him.
Your parents weren’t too thrilled that you were dating Eddie. They wanted you to date Steve instead, but you protested, as well as Steve, to the point where your parents relented. You ended up turning into a little bookworm, as Eddie had given you a few books he thought you’d enjoy. Now, here you two were, five years later, still together, still going strong.
As Eddie told Dustin the story, he had finished hammering the nails into the tin garbage lids. He stood, grabbing the one he was working on.
“How’s she feeling?” Dustin asked.
Turning and holding out his makeshift shield, Eddie replied, “Light,-” before holding the lid nail side down, saying, “-but durable.” Holding it out again, he added, “Deadly,-” before lowering it to add, “-but reliable.”
You and Dustin laughed at Eddie’s antics, something you fall even more in love with about him. With an ever dramatic voice as he propped his foot on the crate he’d been sitting on, Eddie reached out a hand towards Dustin, saying, “Hear me now. There will be no more retreating…” Going back to his own voice, he looked at you and said, “...from Eddie the Banished.”
Standing up with his own makeshift shield, Dustin said, “Hey, you’re really ready for bat-tle.”
You and Eddie looked at each other before casting your eyes over to Dustin, as he chortled. “You get it?”
did i forget to mention that your little group minus the younger teens had jumped into lovers lake after steve and ended up having your own little adventure in the upside down? no. oh. well. ya’did!
“Bat-tle.” As Dustin looked at yours and Eddie’s please explain looks, he sighed out, “B-A-T. No?”
Eddie looked at you before he handed you his shield as Dustin set his down, saying, “I thought it was a good one,” before your boyfriend all but tackled him with a playful yell, the younger teen caught off guard. “What are you doing?!”
You had to drop the shield as Eddie pushed your brother towards you, your hands coming up to his back to stop him from running into you. He stood up straighter before saying, “Son of a bitch!” before charging at Eddie, who let out another playful yell.
Laughing out loud, you watched as your boyfriend reached down to give your brother a wedgie, who protested by saying, “No wedgies! No wedgies!”
They both stood up straighter, Eddie’s hands on either side of your brother, saying, “Never change.” They both looked at each other as he said, “Dustin Henderson.”
You walked over to them, moving the hair that was in Eddie’s mouth right before he added, “Promise me?”
As if he were getting emotional, Dustin said, “Wasn’t planning on it.”
“Good,” Eddie said. “Good.” He looked over at you and kissed you before turning towards the Sinclairs, saying, “Hey, Sinclair’s! How are those, uhh… spears coming on?”
Watching as Lucas gave a thumbs up, you chuckled when you noticed the look on Erica’s face. Shaking your head, you looked down at the shields, your smile falling fast. Dustin noticed before Eddie did, your brother walking over to you and putting a hand on your shoulder.
“What’s up, sis?” he asked. He looked at your waterline, seeing tears lining them. Looking over at Eddie, he whispered his name as a tear slipped down your cheek.
“Baby?” Eddie said, standing in front of you. He cupped your cheeks, lifting your head as you took a shaky breath in. “Princess, what’s wrong?”
With your eyes dancing between his, you quietly asked, “What if we don’t make it out this time?” You grabbed his forearms, keeping his arms in place as you added, “What if one of us dies? I can’t… I can’t lose anyone else.” Gripping his forearms a little tighter, you said through gritted teeth, “Especially you.”
Shaking his head, Eddie said, “You’re not gonna lose me.”
“Do you promise me?”
He grabbed one of your hands after removing one of his from your cheek, bringing your hand to palm at his chest. “With my whole heart.” With the hand that was still cupping your cheek, he brought your face closer to his, sealing his promise with a kiss.
Dustin cleared his throat, causing the two of you to break apart. You pressed your foreheads together, your eyes shut, Eddie’s still open as he quietly said, “I love you, princess.”
“I love you, too, Dungeon Master.”
“Okay, if you two can stop having a gross moment, can we practice a little bit?” Dustin asked.
Reluctantly, Eddie pulled away to grab his shield, practicing fighting the demobats as you watched them, giggles and chuckles sounding out of you as you did. You laughed when Eddie jumped over Dustin like a leap frog.
A little while later, everyone geared up with their weapons and battle clothes. Your group got back into the Winnebago, everyone quiet as the realness of what was to come started to set it. Steve was driving while Nancy sat next to him in the passenger seat. Erica, Lucas and Max sat in the kitchen/dining area. Dustin, Robin, you and Eddie sat in the very back.
You were sitting between Eddie and Dustin, your arm around Eddie’s, your head resting on his shoulder as he had his hand resting on the inside of your thigh. You couldn’t help but play with the ring on his finger, it bringing the both of you some form of comfort.
Looking at Eddie, you weren’t surprised to see him already looking at you, tightening his hold on you just the slightest. You looked at Dustin, seeing the worry on his face. You knew he had the same concerns that you did, but he never voiced them. Grabbing his hand, you held on tight as he looked out of the window, the hold he was giving your hand was the same you had on his.
Steve eventually pulled up to the Creel house, letting Max, Lucas and Erica off before he drove you to a secluded area near the trailer park, Forest Hills, where you all ran through the phases one more time that Nancy had set in place.
Phase One: Meet Erica at the playground, where she’ll signal Max and Lucas.
Phase Two: Max baits Vecna.
Phase Three: you, Eddie and Dustin distract the bats.
Phase Four: Flambe.
Once you were all sure of the plan and that no one was going to deter away from it, the six of you hopped off of the Winnebago to head to Eddie’s trailer, where Chrissy’s gate was. When you all reached the trailer, Steve went in first, everyone else following suit.
When you walked in, you watched as Steve the makeshift rope that Dustin had made to bring you back from the Upside Down, flipping before landing on his feet.
“Ooooh, what does he want us to do, applaud?” Robin mocked.
You chuckled as you watched him place a mattress on the other side of the gate for safe landing. Nancy went next after dropping her backpack. As carefully as you and Dustin could, you both tossed their gear up into the gate, the backpack and gun landing on the mattress on the other side.
Eddie went next, smiling up at you, telling you to come on with the motion of his hand. With Robin and Dustin’s help, you climbed the rope before falling onto the mattress with your eyes closed, only to see Eddie right above you when you opened them. “Now this looks familiar.”
Chuckling, you playfully shoved him away, saying, “Keep it in your pants, Munson.”
He helped you up before his shield, Robin and her backpack, the spears and your brother came crashing down, Steve and Eddie grabbing his shirt and hoisting him up.
When you all exited the trailer, Steve turned around and said, “Hey, you two, listen.”
“Uhm, three,” you corrected, pushing your way between your brother and boyfriend.
“No, two. You’re coming with us.”
Crossing your arms, you said, “Like hell, I am.” He sighed your nickname before you interrupted him. “No, Steven. You don’t get to make that choice. Not this time. I need to stay with them.”
“Because of-” Steve started, only for you to interrupt him again by saying, “Because of them.” You walked towards Steve, placing your hands on his shoulders. “Look, I know my parents tried with us, and I know it’s what you wanted, too, but I can’t help the fact that I fell in love with Eddie. He’s never experienced this shit before. I need to be here to protect him. And Dustin.”
Sighing, he nodded. “Alright.” Steve looked back at Dustin and Eddie, but directed his next words at the three of you. “If things here start to go South, like, at all-” He looked at you as he said, “-abort. Okay?” Looking back at Dustin and Eddie, he added, “Draw the attention of the bats, keep them busy for a minute or two while we take care of Vecna.”
“Steve,” you whispered, tears lining your eyes.
“Don’t try to be cute or heroes or whatever. You three are just-”
“Decoys,” you and Dustin said.
Gaining Steve’s attention, you said, “Don’t worry, Steve. Can play the hero this time.”
“Absolutely,” Eddie said. “I mean, look at us. We are noooooooot heroes.”
Before Steve walked off with Nancy and Robin, he looked at you and his face softened. At the same time, the two of you hugged tightly. Squeezing each other the way you did as kids when his parents would fight.
His attention was gained when Eddie called his name. You turned to look at him as he said, “Make him pay.”
When you turned back to Steve, you cupped his neck, his hands going to your triceps. “Be careful, or I swear to fuck, Steve, I will kill you myself.”
“I’ll be careful, love.” Resting his forehead against yours, he quietly added, “I promise.”
“You better,” you whispered. Pulling back to look into his eyes, you added, “I can’t live without my best friend.”
Steve kissed your forehead before walking off with Nance and Robin right before you turned to Eddie and Dustin, walking straight for the love of your life, cupping his cheeks.
“You’re my hero,” you said, eyes dancing between his.
Eddie knew about your close relationship with Steve. When you two not-so-intimate like you just were, it did bother him a little, but he knew that nothing would come of it. Eddie knew you loved him, but he couldn’t help that pang of jealousy that he knew shouldn’t be there.
“I love you.”
“I love you, too, princess.” He placed his lips on yours, your lips moving in sync for a moment before you both pulled away, knowing that if you kept going, your brother would be scarred for life.
Three of you got to work; cutting up chain-linked fences, gathering sheets of metal, posts, whatever you could get your hands on to start building a small shelter on the porch of the trailer, leaving one of the doors on the front clear for easy access. A ladder was leaning against it to the side so that you all could get up on the roof.
You looked at his trailer, backing up and taking Eddie with you, Dustin following. Once the three of you were back for enough, you looked at each boy, a smile forming on their faces.
“Not bad,” Eddie said.
“Not bad at all,” Dustin agreed.
Eddie chuckled, tapping Dustin’s shoulder around our own before bringing you into his side, kissing the side of your head. “Now for the fun part.” He took you hand in his, all but dragging you into the trailer towards his bedroom, where he opened the door.
He stopped, almost making you run into him. “Babe, what the fu-”
“Jesus Chr-” he said.
“Wha- oh, my god. Eddie,” you whispered, placing your hand on his shoulder. “She’s beautiful.”
“It’s like…” he said, walking towards his mirrored dresser. “...she was destined for an alternate dimension.” When he got closer, he said, “What do you say, Hendersons?” After grabbing his guitar, he turned around while asking, “Are you two ready for the most metal concert in the history of the world?”
You and Dustin looked at each other, smiling before you turned to Eddie, and said in unison, “Is that a rhetorical question?”
Putting the strap on his shoulder, Eddie looked at you again, before whispering, “Let’s do it,” and throwing the instrument over his shoulder.
For some reason, you were excited about Eddie putting on a little concert. You loved watching him play, so actually seeing him play wasn’t what was making you excited. It was the fact that you didn’t know what he was going to play.
It was decided after the three of you climbed onto the trailer's roof that this little concert would be dedicated to Chrissy Cunningham, the cheerleader that had, unfortunately, been Vecna’s first victim.
Eddie had told you that Chrissy came to him for some weed to help with the “voices” in her head; a voice that turned out to be Vecna trying to lure her into his trap… which ultimately worked, unfortunately.
You’d met Chrissy because of you being on the dance team, having done football games and basketball games together. You considered her a friend before you and Steve graduated. Upon hearing about her death, you were obviously heartbroken. So, when Eddie asked if he could dedicate the concert to her, you quickly agreed to it, loving him even more than you already did.
Everyone thought that Eddie was this mean and scary freak, but the truth of the matter is, he was just a metalhead, fantasy game playing teddy bear with a heart of gold. Right after you plugged the cord into his guitar, you gave him a kiss, telling him to knock ‘em dead before standing next to your brother.
Robin’s voice came through the walkie-talkie saying, “She’s in. Move on to Phase Three.”
Dustin replied, saying, “Copy that. Initiating Phase Three,” before grabbing the cords, saying, “Let’s hope they hear this,” right before he plugged the amp into the extension cord.
Turning the amp all the way up, you looked at Eddie, who locked eyes with you as you blew him a kiss. “Chrissy,” he said, reaching for his guitar pick necklace, ripping the pick off. “This is for you.” Strumming the first chord of the song, he yelled out and you instantly knew the song he was playing; Master of Puppets by Metallica.
You stood behind Dustin as Eddie played the first few notes of the song, placing your hands on his shoulders and headbanging along with your brother. Watching as Eddie had his concentration face on, you tried not to let your mind go there.
It was the same face he sported when you two fucked and he was trying to reach climax with you.
You did a couple little jumps, using Dustin to brace yourself when Eddie shook his head, something you loved seeing him do while he played. You looked forward to Tuesday nights because that meant you got to watch Eddie in his element, doing what he loves.
He walked closer to you and Dustin, bending the slightest bit as the three of you headbanged together to the beat of the song. When he got to the chorus, he propped his foot up on the smaller amp that was sitting near him, much like he did with crate hours earlier.
Dustin’s hand tapping your own had you looking down, seeing the binoculars in his hand. Taking them from him, you turned to face the woods, bringing them up to your eyes, not seeing the demobats yet. You turned back to Dustin, giving them back as Eddie tilted his head back, playing two notes for the word Master, two times, headbanging with Dustin.
When Eddie started playing the bridge of the song right before the guitar solo, yours and Dustin’s attention was brought to the shrieking of the demobats, your brother standing to look through the binoculars.
“Dusty!” you said, loud enough for him to hear.
“Thirty seconds!” he responded.
Turning to look at Eddie, you said, “Babe!” He looked at you, while playing your favorite part of the song. “Gotta lock down in thirty seconds!”
He curtly nodded at you, your attention caught in between his and Dustin’s.
“Twenty!” Dustin said.
“Babe, you got twenty seconds! Do the solo near the end!”
Wasting no time, Eddie got right into it as your anxiety started to show as you placed your hand on Dustin’s shoulder, who said ten not a moment later.
“Baby, ten!” Your eyes never left the bats as you and Dustin said, “Five!”
“One!”
You ran over towards Eddie as the notes started to fade out as he ended the song.
“Babe, go!” Eddie yelled, gently pulling you to jump from the top of the trailer to the top of the truck below and into the bed. “Move! Move! Move!” he yelled at Dustin, the both of them following your lead as you jumped from the bed, turning around for a second.
“Y/N/N, get your ass in the house!” Dustin shouted as he ran past you.
Eddie grabbed your arms and turned you around to run around the side of the trailer, both of you stumbling into the makeshift shelter.
“Baby, shut it!” you shouted, Eddie doing exactly that; shutting the chain link door, putting a two by four on it at a diagonal to essentially lock it. Grabbing at his arm, you pulled him behind you as the bats slammed into the walls and door. “Baby, come on!”
When the two of you backed into the trailer, you stood in between him and your brother, taking deep breaths as you tried to calm yourself down. You and Eddie looked at each other at the same time before he took the steps he needed to get closer to you, your lips locking in heated exchange. You just chalked it up to the adrenaline.
“Dude!” Dustin said, causing the two of you to break apart. “Most. Metal. Ever!”
The three of you jumped and cheered in excitement, Eddie picking you up and spinning you around, like he did every Tuesday night after his show when you’d meet him at the back of the bar.
When he set you down, he kissed you again, holding it for a moment before moving his lips against yours.
“I hate-” Kiss. “-to break-” Kiss. “- this up-” Kiss. You lightly pushed him away, looking into his eyes. “Dungeon Master, I love you, but we are currently being swarmed by the very same bats that almost ate Steve.”
Coming back to reality, Eddie looked at Dustin, who already had their spears in his hands. Apparently, you didn’t have anything to protect yourself with because when you tried to make your own shield and had asked the Sinclair siblings to make you one, Eddie protested and said you didn’t need anything because he had said, “They’ll have to go through me to get to you.”
So, you were standing in the middle of two of them, their backs to you as they circled you, the bats continuing their swarming and shrieking. Every time they slammed back against the outside of the trailer, you jumped a little, which if we’re being honest, you were jumping a lot.
When the noises finally started to calm down, your brother thought that that was a good time to yell out, “Hey, dipshiiiiiiiiiiiits! Give up that easy, huh?!”
Covering his mouth, you shushed him. “I don’t plan on becoming demobat chow, Dusty, now shut the fuck up.”
Clattering above you gained all of your attention, your eyes being casted up towards the ceiling.
“They’re on the roof,” Eddie said.
“Baby, I love you, but now’s not the time to be a sarcastic shithead,” you whispered.
With all three of your attention on the roof, you followed the sounds of their walking, the phrase, “Shit, shit, shit,” spilling from yours and Dustin’s mouths with the occasional, “Fucking hell,” being spilled from yours.
Spotting where they were going, you spotted the vent in the kitchen. “Eddie,” you said, his response being an acknowledging hum. “I don’t think we covered the vent.”
“They can’t get in through there, can they?” Dustin asked.
Without missing a freaking beat, one of the bats broke the vent, sending the metal down to the ground, a gasp coming from Dustin, a scream coming from you, and silence coming from Eddie before they yelled out a battle cry and began stabbing the creature through the vent.
You had taken a couple of steps back when Eddie went around you, keeping your eyes on the creature they were stabbing, your breathing coming out in pants, your anxiety reaching max levels.
Eddie turned to face you, saying, “Babe, get out of the way!” to which you obliged, watching as he grabbed one of the chairs from the small table you were standing beside. “Get out of the way! Get out of the way!” he said, making his way towards Dustin.
He stood on the chair with his nail shield, putting it in the ceiling to block the creatures from going inside, letting go after a second. “Holy shit. Holy shit.”
“Nice,” Dustin said.
“Thanks.”
They gave each other high fives, their attention being put on you when you exclaimed, “Hello?! Damsel in distress over here!”
“Sorry, babe,” Eddie said, jumping down from the chair and walking towards you. He wrapped you in a hug, the lingering scent of his cologne from two days prior calming you just the smallest bit.
“Are there any other vents?” Dustin asked, breaking your moment.
“Oh, shit,” Eddie breathed. He turned away, telling you to stay put as he grabbed his spear and went into his bedroom, Dustin following behind. You weren’t one to listen, so you followed, screaming when the creatures popped from the corner of Eddie’s room from the floor vent.
Turning toward you, Dustin pushed you back as Eddie backed out of his room, closing the door. The creatures started to claw their way through the door, Eddie and Dustin holding their spears, Eddie’s more so in protection before he grabbed Dustin’s shield.
“That’s not gonna hold!” you and Dustin screamed.
“Let’s go!” Eddie screamed. “Let’s go!”
Dustin started to climb up the sheets first, making it halfway up before you started climbing up, watching Eddie every so often.
When you felt the sheets tug beneath you, you looked down, sighing in small relief when you watched Eddie start his climb. Your head made it through the Hawkins gate when you felt the sheets below you go slack.
You tried your best to look down, seeing Eddie reach for his protection, his name falling from your lips on a shout, trying your best to gain his attention. When you did gain it, he looked conflicted as he said, “I love you. So fucking much,” before cutting the sheets, sending you down into Hawkins with Dustin.
You screamed as you fell through, your front hitting the mattress as Eddie moved on the other side. When you stood up, you watched him shove the mattress away. “Babe! What the fuck are you doing?” you yelled, looking up at him.
He looked up at you before saying, “I’m buying more time,” before walking away.
“NOOOOOOOOOOO!!!” you screamed, your throat feeling raw at the exertion. Looking at your brother, you said, hoarsely, “Dustin Wade, get me something to stand or climb up on.”
“Why?” he asked.
Looking back up into Upside Down Hawkins, you said, “Because I can’t let him die.”
“Move the mattress.”
As you moved it, he grabbed a chair from the table, setting it under the gate. After you climbed on it, you looked at your brother, cupping the side of his head as you said, “I love you, Dusty. Don’t… follow me,” before jumping up as hard as you could, grabbing onto the side of the gate before pulling yourself up.
You flipped yourself, dangling for a moment before dropping to your feet in a, what Dustin would call, heroic squat. When you heard Eddie’s voice, your feet started moving before you could even think about what to do.
Once you were outside, you heard him yell, “Come get me, you sons of bitches!” before you started moving once more towards him. You looked around for discarded bikes, but couldn’t see any, so you just… ran.
You can as fast your feet could carry you. Watching as a demobat knocked him off the bike, you ran even faster, which you didn’t think was possible. “EDDIE!” you yelled, seeing him roll on the ground before standing.
He looked at you for a slight moment before he started running again, a pained expression on his face at seeing you before he just… stopped running.
Squeals and screams came from you as the bats started making their way towards you as you continued your running. A hand grabbing you and turning you around had you screaming in surprise. At first, you thought it was Steve coming to your rescue… again, but once you felt that warm feeling go through your body, you knew it was Eddie.
He held his shield up, blocking the two of you from the demobats as they flew themselves at the two of you, Eddie yelling while they did so before they started flying around the two of you in circles.
“Eddie, what do we do?” you asked, fear lacing your voice. “What do we do?!”
“I fight,” he said.
“Edd-”
“I’ll protect you, and you’ll walk out of here, unharmed.”
“So the fuck will you!” you exclaimed, gaining his attention. “We’re gonna make it out. We’re, Eddie. We are. Plural. Me and you. Together.” From the corner of your eye, you saw a bat make its way out of the circle to make its way towards you, a scream tearing from your throat before Eddie slashed at it with his spear.
You could very faintly hear Dustin calling your name, but you didn’t care enough to risk your life anymore than you already were to run to your brother.
Eddie fought them as they came, standing in front of you the whole time, yelling out “Come on!” at one point. Turning his head a little towards you, he asked, “How you doing, babe?”
“All things considered?!” you shouted.
A few moments later, a bat wrapped its tail around Eddie’s throat and you jumped into action, grabbing the creature to unwrap it. Grabbing the spear, you carefully slashed at it, cutting it from the hold it had.
You did this for every creature that came at Eddie. Knowing they wanted to make him chow, you weren’t about to let that happen. He used his shield to knock them away. Turning your back for a second, you felt a pain go through your leg, a pained scream tearing from your lips as you went down to the ground, stabbing at the bat that had bitten your leg.
Feeling another pain go through you, again you screamed, not sure where the pain was coming from as you heard Eddie’s pained cries mix with your own. Taking the spear, you slashed and stabbed at the creatures, your blood making your clothes stick your body from where the bats were trying to chow down on you.
“Get the hell off my boyfriend!” you screamed, standing on your good leg to scream and stab all the bats that were making their way to his torso, just like they did with Steve. Before you could even process what was happening, the bats just started falling from where they were circling the two of you.
Dropping the spear, you looked around, breathing heavily before a weak voice called your name. Looking down at Eddie, you gasped and sat beside him, seeing all the blood on him. “Oh, my god. No, no, no, no, no, no.” You hadn’t realized you started crying until you looked up, seeing Dustin. “Dusty!!” you screamed, noticing the limp he had.
Looking back down at Eddie, you grabbed his body and pulled him against you. “Bad, huh, babe?”
“Shut the fuck up, you’re gonna be fine,” you said, through your tears. Looking up at Dustin, you said, “Give me your jacket.” When he didn’t give it to you, you sighed and exclaimed, “I need to stop the bleeding! Gimme your jacket!”
Once he took his gear off and handed you his jacket, you applied pressure to the wounds on Eddie’s abdomen, a pained cry leaving his lips. “I’m so sorry,” you whispered, kissing his forehead through his bandana. “I’ll patch you up when we can get you back to the trailer.”
“P-patch?” he asked, grunting.
“I’ve had to stitch up Steve one or twice, it’s no big deal.” You went to move, but Eddie’s voice stopped you when he said, “Babe, I need a second, okay?”
Letting out a soft sob, you leaned your forehead against his, letting the tears start their descent. Through gritted teeth, Eddie asked, “I didn’t run away this time, right?”
You let out a louder sob, shaking your head, “No. No, you didn’t. My fucking hero.”
“Dustin,” he said, gaining your brother's attention. “You’re gonna have to look after those little sheep for me, okay?”
“You’re not fucking dying!” you yelled, sobbing. “Dustin, tell him he’s not dying.”
“You’re gonna do that yourself,” Dustin sobbed.
“Nah, Hendersons,” Eddie said. Nothing else needed to be said as he looked you dead in your eyes, smiling. “I’m actually gonna graduate.”
Nodding your head fast, you sobbed out, “Yeah. And I’m gonna be there with Hellfire and your Uncle Wayne, cheering you on.
“I think it’s my year, Hendersons.” Seeing the tears welling up in his eyes only made you cry harder. “I think it’s f-f-finally my year.”
“He’s losing too much blood,” you said, pressing harder on his wounds, another pained cry leaving him. “Dustin, help me carry him back to the trailer.” Looking at Eddie as Dustin moved to his feet, you said, “We’re gonna carry you now, baby. It’s gonna hurt like hell. Are you ready?”
He nodded, closing his eyes and trying his best to take a deep breath.
“Okay, Dusty, ready?” You locked eyes with your brother. “One, two, three.” You both stood up as best you could with one of Dustin’s legs being broken, and with your own injuries.
“What about you?” Dustin asked, looking down at your leg as you walked backwards, also limping.
“I’ll be fine. I’m more worried about Eddie right now.”
With an understanding nod, you both grunted as you made your way back to the trailer. “Baby, keep talking. Please keep talking. I need to hear that amazing voice of yours.”
“I play the solo good?” he asked, struggling to take another breath.
“So fucking good, baby. I jumped against Dustin’s shoulders,” you said, breathing out a chuckle.
Eddie’s chuckle was weak, and he was starting to get heavier in your arms, a bad sign you had come to know.
“No, no, no. Keep talking. Stay awake. Just stay awake! Eddie, stay awake!”
~~~
“Hold still… You gotta hold still… I’m gonna poke your fucking eye out if you don’t stop.”
A groan slipped past his lips as you messed with his hair, a pair of scissors and a comb in your hand. His hair had grown out a little since coming back from the Upside Down, depression hitting him like a bus.
Dustin walked into your room, letting out a small yelp at seeing you straddling a body. “Oh, my god! My eyes.”
You slowly turned your head over your shoulder, looking at your brother the best you could with slightly narrowed eyes. “Can you not? I’m trying to trim his bangs.”
The boy you were currently sitting on sighed, tossing his head back onto your wall. “They’re not that bad.”
“Not that bad?” you said, turning to face the boy in question. “Eddie, I haven’t trimmed them since after Christmas break.”
“And they’re fine.”
Giving a deadpan expression, you slumped your shoulders a little, saying, “You can’t even see. You’re doing that shaking thing with your head so that you can see, babe.”
Eddie’s eyes danced around as he thought about what you were saying before doing exactly what you had he did, before saying, “I do not.”
“Just you did!” you exclaimed, a smile on your face. Before you could lean in and kiss him, Dustin said, “Uhh, before something happens between the two of you, I should probably tell you that Mom is asking for suggestions for dinner.”
“Whatever she wants to make,” you and Eddie said. You two weren’t picky when it came to your mom’s cooking.
“Anything is better than Spaghetti O’s,” Eddie deadpanned.
You looked at him and started laughing, covering your mouth as you did.
Reaching towards you, Eddie grabbed the scissors from your hand as he said, “Okay, let me take these out of your hand so that you don’t get more stitches.”
The first couple of weeks after you all came back from the Upside Down were rough; nightmares every night, waking up in a cold sweat, you constantly checking on Eddie’s breathing despite your head resting on his chest. Dustin had slept in your room for the first week back, calming you when Eddie didn’t wake from his own nightmares.
Your nightmares consisted of Eddie or Dustin dying, being under Vecna’s trances, or you being eaten alive by demobats. Eddie’s mostly consisted of you and Dustin dying or himself being eaten by demobats.
Once the nightmares had stopped, however, you two still checked on each other nightly. Making sure the other was breathing, checking your wounds to see the healing process, the whole nine. You called Steve, Robin and Nancy every single day to make sure they were doing good, their nightmares being completely different from yours and Eddie’s.
The last time you had called Steve was to ask about his own wounds he had, him telling you that they were fine and healing quite nicely. You two had plans to hang out, but ultimately canceled when Eddie woke from a nap, breathing heavily. You wanted to stay with your boyfriend to make sure he was fine.
“Well…,” Dustin said, bringing you out of your thoughts. “I-I think you guys should come see.”
Sighing, you dropped your head, your chin meeting your chest. “Okay.” As you were lifting yourself off of Eddie’s lap, he placed his hands on your thighs, keeping you in place. You looked at him with a raised brow.
Tapping his lips, he said, “Kiss first.”
Chuckling, you shook your head, and leaned forward, saying, “You’re so stupid,” before placing your lips on his, careful not to press down on his wounds.
“You love me, though,” he said against your lips, a smile on his face.
“That I do,” you smiled. “That I do.” Before getting off his lap, you pecked his lips, your feet meeting the floor before you helped him from your bed.
You guys made your way to the living room, stopping your tracks at seeing all your friends standing around. Covering your mouth, you laughed at seeing Gareth and Jeff holding up a get well sign.
You looked up at Eddie, happy your life was heading in the right direction with the man of your dreams… monster fighting and all.
•Imagine, Idol!reader thats also a pirate, their crew is basically their whole staff( /first fan base) and their right hand man as their manager. Reason why they became a pirate in the first place is that they just go wherever they want to have a concert and just…trespass, even tho they can just get a permit, but wheres the thrill in that?
•Idol!reader has a huge fanbase since they go around the seas to perform. Their concerts in the East blue is more tame since most of the fans there are teenagers and kids alike while on the North blue,,, theres no limit of what a performer can do ;). (South and West blue are one the middle)
•Sometimes they do collabs with other artists/musicians, like uta. When the announcement of their collab got announced and spread world wide, not even a day, almost all of the people celebrated (esp their die hard fans) in joy since- hello?? Two of the infamous idols are gonna do a music together and perform!
•The concerts of theirs is randomly vogue. since they don’t give schedules or any heads up to the people. the most they can do is give a singular clue to their fans and the rest is for them to solve (cause of the marines), Its like an investigation of when and where their next concert will be. If you got the info’s right then enjoy the show! If not then better luck next time ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ .
•Since they have a high bounty, the marines always keep track of them whenever they left a clue, sometimes they would be right and crash the show (just like how they crashes soul king’s performance) but most of the time,,,, not so much, since they’re cheeky like that.
•They have their own light sticks and merch like those kpop groups. Fans can collect photo cards (some are limited), keychains, stickers, pins, etc. reason why they have the budget of effects and other stuff.
“Holy shit man, i cant believe we got to see them in live!” “Damn theres so many people here” “The code they gave for this concert is confusing as shit but i still managed to crack it!” “Your sacrifice for sleep will not be in vain brother”
as more people came to the venue to watch others kept chatting amongst themselves waiting for the performance to start.
Meanwhile a ship with a lion’s head approached an island, the sound of many voices chattering captivated the crew’s attention. Luffy, always one to follow his instincts, leaped to his feet, his eyes alight with curiosity.
"Hey, what's that sound?" he exclaimed, pointing toward the shore.
Nami, peered through her binoculars and grinned. "Looks like there's a concert happening on the island. Let's check it out!"
Excited at the prospect of new entertainment, the Straw Hats disembarked onto the lively island. Crowds of people gathered around a grand stage, where colorful lights danced to the rhythm of the music. The source of the beginning melody stood at the center of the stage, captivating the audience with their captivating voice and mesmerizing performance. The crowd roared with excitement as the show progressed.
“Oh my, how lucky we are to watch their live performance” The woman chuckled
“huh? What do you mean about that robin?” The reindeer tugged the woman’s hand, Robin then looked down at chopper
“ A legend among the seas, whose fame transcended oceans and boundaries. With their captivating charisma and unmatched talent, she held sway over the hearts of both pirates and civilians alike.” She then looked back at the stage seing the idol perform.
“Their voice carried the weight of countless adventures, each note resonating with the spirit of freedom and adventure.” As her story ended, the rest of the straw hats that were listening to her went back to the idol singing.
“YOHOHOHO, i couldnt believe i get to meet the infamous idol so soon!”
“Seems like it’s our lucky day!- wait where’s sanji?-“ ussop then looked around when suddenly
“LOVELY IDOL-CHAAAAAAAAAN~~~ popped out of nowhere holding two light sticks on each hand and a whole bag of merchandize in his back
“WHERE- AND HOW DID YOU EVEN MANAGE TO GET ALL THAT STUFF-“ ussop screached
“WOW! THIS CONCERT IS VERY SUUUUPEEEERRR!” As franky did his usual pose
“WAAAAH! LOOK AT ALL THOSE LIGHTS AND CONFETTIS!” chopper looked around amazed
“ tch, its theres too many people here..” zoro grumbled
“Well what do you expect from a very famous idol” nami smiled watching the performance
“We couldn’t go back now since theres too many people blocking the way, so lets just enjoy the show” jimbe chuckled abit at zoro
“Then ill make a way” before he pulls out one of his sword he then got bonked
“ARE YOU THAT HARD HEADED!?” Yelled nami and sanji at the same time
As the crew kept chatting/bickering while watching the performance, Luffy couldn’t help but wonder why the idol performing looks someone familiar he met before his adventure to be the pirate king. But in the end he just shrugged it off and continue enjoying the lively atmosphere of the concert with his crew.
i love those fics where the straw hats r in modern times but have vague memories of the previous life - i'd really like one (and there might be one already lmao idk) where luffy is the one who doesn't remember out of the straw hats
the first straw hat to see luffy in modern times is jinbe, who sees him when he's a kid - he double takes but luffy is there with ace and that chokes jinbe up too and before he can approach the two leave - jinbe reminds himself that he hasn't had his memories for that long and luffy is still a kid - if the straw hats get their memories, it'll be as they get older, jinbe just has to be patient
/
sanji is in junior high; he's in a cooking lab, it's after school. he's been having these strange dreams and at first he dismissed them as just that but he has them over and over; he's there in the cooking lab, after school and a flash of green catches his eye and he hesitates for a few minutes before rushing after it and there's one of the people from his dream - zoro
zoro seems equally surprised to see him and they just stand there, not knowing what to say, and how to react - both recognizing each other but not really
/
nami knows here strange dreams are more than dreams; she knows it but no matter where she looks she can't find any of the people in them
its a coincidence that her mother took her sister and her a little out of town to shop - it's a coincidence that an art shop catches her eyes and she wanders in, hoping to find some new inking pens - it's a coincidence that another teenager with a peculiar nose is there too and the name spills from her almost instinctively and usopp turns in confusion but only momentarily as recognition fills in
/
nami and usopp and sanji and zoro
the next people to run into each other are sanji and usopp - and quite literally at that; they bump into each other on the street one day and when they both look up to apologize they gasp and thats how all four of them become together
"do you know where the one with the strawhat is"
"...luffy?"
/
robin is at the library and theres a small child there trying to reach for a book too high and too advanced; she gets up ultimately and grabs it for him and he's so familiar (she feels herself holding on to something that isn't there again) but she cannot explain why and he looks at her with a strange expression but they do not speak further
not until its been weeks and they come to the same library and chopper asks if she would mind a study buddy
/
brook is strumming his guitar at the side of the street - he's been playing a lot of concerts in recent years and wanted to just relax now - relaxation is still music though, so he found a nice place to sit and started to play - in his mind he can hear a voice singing , out of tune as it may be, and he already knows who it is - he already knows about his memories
he should search for them - he supposes - but he never knows if they'll remember
he strums more, beat switching to something more familiar and then someone tells him he used to play this all the time and that is how brooks meets jinbe
/
franky's strange dreams in the midst of his stranger dreams are of no concern to him
sure they leave him empty and wishing sometimes but they mean nothing
not until he's fixing up some car at his workshop and a group of four come in specifically asking for him
thats how franky meets usopp nami zoro and sanji
/
vivi tells all her strange dreams to her pet; she writes them down, dreams of adventure and friends and one day she decides she'll write them into a book - something as grand as all the people who live in her head
she heads to a local library to start
she meets someone who she feels she should resent but cannot truly
/
luffy has no such dreams
/
the second person to meet luffy is brook who's open guitar case luffy puts a few dollars in and then pauses when the music stops and the man stares at him
"lu-"
"luffy!" whatever he's going to say is forgotten as luffy's brother calls for him and luffy heads to him instead
luffy doesn't remember brook realizes; it's okay though, he'll just wait longer
/
luffy has two older brothers; they don't have strange dreams either; all three of them are content in their life - in their shared apartment, close enough to both ms. makino's and dadan's places
they are content and happy to live as brothers - they do whatever they want; sometimes it feels like people are watching them
ace opens a flower shop in honor of his mother
luffy likes the colors so he sits there in his free time
/
usopp is only at the flower shop to pick up something for his mother
"those are the flowers my brother gives his mom!" an achingly familiar voice says
usopp turns around, words and breath caught in his throat - he doesn't know what to say but he must have said something becuz next thing he knows he's making his way to his mother, that very bouquet in his hand
luffy doesn't remember
/
one by one they all meet luffy; luffy with his same smile; luffy with his happy content life with his brothers; luffy with no recognition in his eyes
suddenly they are too big, too strange, too different to fit into luffy's life where he seems to have everything
/
they forget that luffy is easy to love and loves just as easy and always has room for more people
even these strange ones with memories in their eyes luffy will never know
/
anyway the idea is that all the strawhats but luffy recall their past life and feel some sort of emptiness they all try to find luffy and meet him in various times and he never recognizes them
they meet each other too, gradually, and become friends but theyre still searching for luffy - but luffy is content in his life unlike them, he's with his brothers and he's happy and at that realization they suddenly feel as if they are trying to impose onto his life - but of course luffy is luffy and he may not remember but he has plenty of room to welcome people into his life and yeah
Here's the promised Def Leppard/Mötley Crüe concert experience post <3
Under a read more because I don't want to hit any of you with this giant wall of text, videos and photos without any way to skip past lol
I arrived at the venue with time to spare, saw many people in just black bandshirts (for comfort which I totally get. Not everyone's as extra as me who dresses up like he's Mick Mars' stunt double in the 80s lol)
I sadly had to throw away my umbrella. It wasn't allowed inside the pit. I get it, hazard and whatnot. The 4€ fee to have someone look after it and only a half hour window to get it back after the concert ended seemed not worth it for a cheap umbrella so buying a new one on monday it is.
I got myself a shirt as soon as I got in. The choices were not great, gotta admit. Mötley Crüe seem to be going for some japanese-esque Samurai-inspired graphic for their new era (felt like an Iron Maiden copy-ish thing to me, not my thing)
The rest of the black shirts were meh, either too plain or prominently featuring John 5. The only shirt with Mick on it was a pale pink and was 5 bucks more expensive than everything else. All shirts and tank tops, both for Mötley Crüe and Def Leppard, were 45 bucks each (rip my June budget fr), bandanas were 25 bucks, basecaps and limited edition signed prints 35 bucks, etc. The Mötley keychains were all sold out by the end of the night, else I would've gotten one of those. My Iron Maiden keychain from 2018 is looking a bit worn and I would've loved to have a new one but oh well. I can still try and DIY one myself. I wanna get more into bleach-painting and patch making and embroidery anyway so it'd be great practice!
I had a t-shirt and tank top by the end of the night lol
Tumblr media
---
After the initial shirt purchase I still had ample time for a toilet break (and a sip of free sink water) after almost 2 hours of travel time and found a nice space in the crowd somewhere in the middle distance from where I could see most of the action on stage.
A local rock radio station did the pre-gig music entertainment. I also met 2 nice dudes who are in a band called Nathanael and play Victorian folk metal! They handed me their business card and I will definitely check them out as soon as I can, maybe even go to one of their gigs soon?
Between the rock radio station signing off and the start of the actual gigs they played some other songs to keep the crowd entertained, Fox On The Run by The Sweet among others! A personal mini highlight 🦊💕
youtube
Mötley Crüe was up first and they took their sweet time to actually get on stage.
There was a pretty long classical music piece playing before their proper intro sequence.
youtube
The official start was supposed to be around 6.30 pm but they got on stage at sometime around 7.30pm? My inner punctuality freak was not amused but it is what it is lol
youtube
Tumblr media
I loved the song selection, knew almost all of them but had trouble singing along for reasons other than my Swiss cheese brain. Not sure if it was intentional or just very unluckily adjusted speakers but most of what I heard of the songs was the droning of the subwoofers. Most of Vince's vocals and a bit of Nikki's bass, John's guitar and Tommy's drums were drowned out by the reverb of the sound system and the overwhelming boom of the speakers. Kinda disappointing. It also rendered the audio of most of the videos I filmed during their set useless. But ah well.
Tumblr media
As this was my first time seeing Mötley Crüe on stage I have no idea if it's a common thing for the sexy dancer ladies to have their own mics and sing some of Vince's parts? It didn't matter much due to the aforementioned "subwoofer drowning out most of the sound" issue lol
Tumblr media
And how could I forget the tits cam zooming in on the crowd, at dear Tommy's request. I guess if you're famous enough you can simply ask to see your fans' tits and most of them happily oblige. I've never seen so many tits out in the wild/on the big screens, it was strange. But it firmly cemented just how wildly asexual I am. Although I am capable of appreciating some nice boobies from an aesthetic point of view no problem, they don't do anything for me beyond that haha
Strangely, the only song the audio was fine on was Home Sweet Home. I really wish I could've heard more of Vince's voice in the other songs like that :')
youtube
John 5's formal intro was an almost 2 minutes long guitar solo, not sure how to feel about that. Like yes, he's good, he has the skills, but. Eh.
(Loved the violin bow on guitar strings intro to Kickstart My Heart tho, that was kinda cool :P)
youtube
Nikki and Vince introducing their older more well known songs with "Wanna hear more of our old shit?" rubbed me the wrong way? On the other hand Nikki said the band loves Germany (he even waved the German flag on stage) and loves the crowd so, eh. I guess I'm a weenie and that's just how they are haha
youtube
Tumblr media
youtube
Also got a little sad about them changing some of the lyrics to Smoking In The Boys Room (from "my buddies Sixx, Mick and Tom" to "my buddies Sixx, 5 and Tom") and the caricature and logo on the screens near the end of their set featuring John 5 instead of Mick. I wasn't quick enough to get a photo because the sadness of a new Mick-less Crüe era hit me full force in that moment. Can't help that my brain is hyperfixating on Mick Fucking Mars and that I missed him dearly all night long :'))))))
At least they didn't cut him out of any of the 80s footage video edits playing on the big screens during some songs. It would've been pretty asshole-ish if they did. Like completely erasing him from their band history.
On a lighter note: Vince introducing Nikki as his brother, who he has known for over 40 years, and their little in-sync swaying back and forth with the mic stand and bass respectively moment with them laughing and talking and exchanging smiles and grins was super cute :') <3
Also Tommy receiving a small bouquet of roses, smiling, and then proceeding to stuff them down the front of his pants lmao
youtube
And that was that for Mötley Crüe
youtube
Tumblr media
A little break in-between, enough time for another trip to the loo and afterwards sip some more water from the sink like an animal (not gonna pay anything over 5€ for a puny little cup of water from the overpriced beverage stands, no sir)
Tumblr media
Def Leppard were in another league compared to Mötley Crüe! Their sound was PERFECT. Very harmonic, powerful, you could hear everyone SO WELL!!! None of the pesky subwoofer problem the Crüe had, and they all looked like they had so much fun!!! I'm not as well-versed with Def Leppard's discography and all the band members (yet), but everyone looked great in their stage outfits! The lights and background videos were so nice too!!!
Tumblr media
And they played the 2 songs I do know (Foolin' and Pour Some Sugar On Me)
but also a bunch of songs from the album they worked on during the worst of the pandemic years. Which also sounded very good!!! I'm actually considering buying that new album if I see it out in the wild for a decent price.
The background video montage for Photograph was so adorable with all the pictures from the band's history, from the late 70s to present day. They were all such adorable babies back then and seeing all the photos gave me the same warm fuzzies as looking at old band photos and candid shots online does <333
Tumblr media
Very much a 180 to Mötley Crüe in every regard, Joe Elliott thanked us in German and English, and told us the band loves us <33
Tumblr media
I might actually try to get more into Def Leppard now that I've seen how awesome they are on stage <33
youtube
The crowd for Def Leppard was a little older and less rowdy, a very welcome change. Still a bunch of almost blackout drunk people, sloshing their beer everywhere and bumping into everyone around them. One major thing I dislike about bigger concerts tbh.
---
I also got a bunch of compliments on my hair, make up, and outfit throughout the evening <3
Even got called Nikki (and Mick, after informing people of my style influence) a few times lol
A couple older folks said they admired my style and that you don't see many people like me anymore and that I should keep doing my thing because it's so cool to see :')<333
[Some comments bordered on some icky misogynistic topics tho, like "oh girls nowadays are too prissy and not as cool and rock-n-roll and bold and rough-and-tumble as they were in the 80s/like you", etc.
And yes, I let everyone think I'm a girl. Not worth it trying to correct tipsy and/or drunk off their asses metalheads in a loud crowded venue. I don't really pass on a masculine day; much less dressed to the nines, face slathered in theatrical 80s make up and hair backcombed and hairsprayed to hell and back.]
On my way to the train station I got to talking with some other tram passengers heading home after the concert, an older couple and two guys around my age. The couple had pretty cool battle vests, all covered in various pins and patches. One of my favourites was the Zappa For President patch on the lady's vest which made me think of @feeshies , really wish I'd asked for a photo :')
The guys my age roped me into going to a strip club with them instead of going straight home. They even covered the entry fee for me, so I didn't have to pay anything! They were very respectful and I was free to go whenever I pleased. It was interesting to see pole dancers/strippers up close in real life and not only on TV, but it's definitely not for me lol I'm too aroace and neurodivergent for this. The ladies had some badass pole skills tho! Effortlessly dancing in 10 inch platform stilettos and with barely anything covering their bodies? I could never! Kudos to the ladies!
Anyway, it was good I decided to head home around 1am, I could already feel the joint pain creeping up on me. it's full-blown throbbing and piercing agony, 7/10, now. I only got 3 hours of sleep before the aches woke me up the first time orz
But hey, 3 hours and a bit of dozing here and there are better than nothing. I spent Sunday taking it kinda easy, only did a few chores around the house, and went through all the photos and videos i took (111 files in total) of course! I weeded out all the blurry and shaky ones and the few good ones should be peppered throughout this post!
Hope y'all had a good Sunday and Monday <3
In a steddie doctor who AU neither of them are the doctor. ROBIN is the doctor and Steve is her long term companion who basically just lives in the TARDIS with her because he didn’t have a whole lot keeping him where he was originally from. They meet Eddie when they’re in Hawkins in the 80s investigating some strange events that scream of spacetime fuckery and Steve goes “can we keep him 🥺” and Robin says yes absolutely - after hitting Steve with the I Know What You Are eyes of course. Once it’s established he can come back without anyone missing him (cause yknow, time travel) Eddie is thrilled to come with them because oh my god??? Aliens are real??? TIME TRAVEL is real???? Eddie’s got enough self-authored Star Trek fanfiction hidden under his bed to not need to think twice about this decision, okay.
Cue adventures and shenanigans and Eddie having the classic companion dilemma of “I love travelling with you and also am kinda falling in love with Steve but I also have friends (the CC boys) and family (Wayne) I really care about waiting for me back in Hawkins that I can’t just abandon”. I’m thinking the solution to that is something along the lines of Steve settling down with Eddie and staying with him on Earth, either in his original time in Hawkins or somewhere/sometime else with Robin generously helping Wayne out so he can go with them.
Also Eddie demands they use time travel for the greatest possible good: allowing him to see all his favourite metal bands live in concert in their prime.
.
What’s the wildest thing you’ve done? Robin had asked, a couple summers ago. Like, in bed? They’d been driving to Chicago for an Indigo Girls concert—not because either of them were massive fans, but because Robin was on the rebound and Steve her sworn wingman. Also he had a car.
Caught off guard—moments before, she’d been narrating the time she’d bussed to the Windy City to meet up with an old friend from band camp who’d caved to their sapphic chemistry—Steve had stuttered an apparently disappointing answer: Ah… anal, I guess? And belatedly clarified, at her wide-eyed stare, Not me—I mean, with a few girls. Her surprise morphed to an eyeroll, complete with dismissive huff. Sorry for not being more adventurous, he drawled.
She patted his arm, consoling. Sorry for your vanilla lifestyle. Because her lifestyle, it seemed, had been infused with some spice of late. That girl I was telling you about? I fucked her. After finals. With a strap-on.
Just to be annoying, Steve had feigned a bored nonchalance. Wow—hands-free dildo. Whoop-dee-doo.
Funny thing, she shot back, smirking. What you can do with hands-free. Did her better than a guy ever had, she said.
He’d held out for maybe ten seconds before curiosity won. What was it like?
Fucking hot, she exclaimed, all self-satisfied loftiness abandoned. And not just the actual fucking part. It was like—hands waved, searching for the words—like it was hot just having it on, and feeling it hang as I moved and… and it changed how I moved? Like I finally understood why guys walk like that. At Steve’s questioning glance amidst the chuckles, she clarified. Like I had this swagger. This strut. And I liked it—this different version of me that just took the wheel. My inner dude or something.
Obviously, the Steve of the here and now could have listed quite a few far wilder things than coming in the back door, and now he had a clearer sense of what Robin had been trying to explain—that strangely electrifying sense of being something else, something other than you usually were. This bodily possession, except not by any demon, but by something that had been in you all along, only dormant.
It wasn’t his recent forays into alternate headspaces that had triggered the memory of that car ride, though. No, the flash hit him the morning Billy greeted him in the kitchen in a cheerleading skirt, hair tied in a high messy knot—when Steve was corralled to the kitchen table while Billy brought him a cup of coffee, a cinnamon bun on a plate.
Because he was moving different, too, and not just on account of the toy almost certainly snug in his ass. Like his steps were… more delicate, more fluid—this languid grace and daintiness, this sway that translated to the hem of the pleats hanging from his hips, brushing his upper thighs. It was feminine. This enticing feminine flare. Entrancing.
Steve leaned back in his chair as Billy set the plate and mug before him. Sighed, all forlorn. “Think the sight of you has me too weak to eat.”
Billy bit the inside of his lip, tolerantly amused—took Steve’s hand when it was offered to carefully settle astride his lap, facing him, and twisted to retrieve the cinnamon bun. Holding it level with Steve’s mouth, he cautioned: “Better not move too much, then. Regain your strength.” Waited for the nod, then allowed a bite—helped himself to one, too, while Steve chewed. Giggled soft when Steve moaned fuck, so good through the mouthful.
Billy licked the icing from Steve’s lips when they were done—let Steve lick the icing from sticky fingers, energy sufficiently recovered to gently grip the raised wrist between them. Good girl was a warm squirming weight by then, seeking friction, so Steve opted to relax a bit—retrieve his coffee, ignore the blood rushing south. Take his time. He was, however, well within his rights to rest his free hand on Billy’s ass, apply just enough pressure to bring them flush beneath the skirt.
“How is it?” he asked, between sips. “Wearing your little uniform?”
Delightful—the blush that dusted Billy’s cheeks. “It’s like I’m… hyper aware of my hips,” he admitted, quiet. “Of you looking at them. And how you could just reach under and—” A short gasp, and he arched, lifting off Steve’s thighs as the hand cupping his ass slid lower, tickling bare skin by the hem. The gasp turned to whining grunts, deep in the throat—Steve tracing an unseen edge of lace to the scrap of fabric that bridged the crack, and continued on, never quite as firm or as far as Billy wanted.
Not until he’d finished his coffee, anyway. The moment he set down the mug, he hugged Billy to his chest, cradling him as Steve slumped against the seatback, Billy’s ass raised off his lap. One arm wrapped iron around heaving ribs below the cropped tee, the other free to wander—palming asscheeks through rough lace, pressing around the base of the plug, never directly on, waiting for Billy to beg. And he did, squirming, glutes clenching, hard and throbbing against Steve’s abs, pleading so sweet.
“How’s this?” Panting, lips pressed to the flexing hinge of Billy’s jaw, so vulnerable with his hair pulled back. “You’re my girlfriend, pure as the driven snow, and I’ve been dying to fuck you for ages, but you wanna wait for marriage, and so…” Pausing for breath, he realized there were a couple ways this could go—all of them brain-melting in his book—so he passed it over to Billy. Ball in his court. “So you give me an ultimatum. What’s it gonna be?”
Billy clutched at his shoulders, face buried, his cheek grazing Steve’s neck as he nodded. “I tell you that… all you get is my a—ah…” His arms tightened, hips stuttering as fingers dipped under the lace, massaged his taint. Voice wavering high and tight, tried again. “All you get is my ass until you give me—a ring?” Shivers wracked his torso, words dropping to a shy whisper. “Or you wanna put a baby in me.”
That walloped Steve—went beyond what he expected, what he thought he’d want. Blindly, his arm shot out, clearing a space on the table, and with the strength that only came to him in the throes of lust, he hefted Billy and lay him flat, legs splayed, skirt hitched high enough to glimpse blue panties.
“Knew it was this pair,” he murmured, attention locked at the apex of trembling thighs, hands smoothing upward, against the grain of soft leg hair. His fingers disappeared under the hem, dug blunt into skin to wedge under the delicate waistband. “If I accept, will you roll over now?” Thumbs stroked his poor prick through satin, teased the weeping tip as he spoke. “Let me take a look? Show me what you’re offering up?”
Billy had been chanting yeah, low and breathy—barely waited for the prompting questions and he was contorting his spine, twisting onto his stomach. Might’ve been an unfortunate meeting of knee and crotch if Steve hadn’t stood to make room.
It was one of those views that sent him soaring, instant vertigo: table supporting most of Billy’s weight, arms folded under his cheek, round ass hanging off the edge, bent legs parted, socked feet searching for purchase on the floor. Blue scalloped lace peeked just past the drape of the skirt.
Pulse pounding, feeling reeled in by the hips, he nudged near, planted himself between Billy’s legs, mindless palms drawn to the globes of that ass, pillow soft, fumbling to push the skirt up, gathered at the small of his back.
Steve breathed a sigh, long and appreciative. “Can we make a rule that when you’re home, you’re always in panties?” Because goddamn—he’d never grow tired of this. How the cut accentuated his curves from behind, and from the front, so tenderly trapped his desperate, leaking need. Billy hummed, musing, and arched to lift his ass off the table, straight-up taunting. “Now, now,” Steve reproved—applied quelling pressure to the plug, and Billy moaned. “Be my patient girl.”
Almost clinical, he hooked the waistband, drew them low enough to expose the plug’s base, gleaming glass… bigger than he’d expected. “Showing off, huh?” he commented, grasping the toy to indulge in a gradual pull, and savored the wavering whine from pink, parted lips. “Let go, babe,” he urged.
Billy bore down, the base shifting. Another slow tug, a relieved whimper, and the slicked rim bloomed wide, glass slipping by—slid free.
The pervy puppet master who jerked his strings whenever he sank into this state prevented the plug from dropping to the braided rug below—placed it upright on the table instead, guided by a flash of foresight.
“Not gonna fuck you now,” he said. Only half-heard the groan of protest as he thumbed the hole, the normally tight furl visibly slackened—slid in up to the second knuckle with hardly any pressure. He tsked, commiserating. “I know—my good girl is so ready.”
It was a question of which particular fantasy ruled the others at any given moment, really. And right now? Right now he wanted to hold off in favor of drilling him later. Wanted, at the same time, to test the lubricating capacity of a load of jizz in the ass. Wanted to plug his good girl up again, full yet utterly unsatisfied.
And he saw a way to do that. Kill a couple birds with one stone. Kill a whole flock of birds.
Fishing his dick from his sweatpants, where he’d been making a steadily stickier mess since the moment Billy sat on his lap, he jerked himself, smearing precome down the shaft. “Don’t worry… I’ll give you something else. Something to keep warm.”
“Please,” Billy mewled, and Steve ground flush against him, wet cockhead plumbing the groove of his crack, catching on the swollen hole. He was so close already, on a hair trigger, and then his lips were forming filth—no filter.
“Want you to reach back.” Propped on one hand planted low on Billy’s back, Steve jacked it quick, aiming best he could as Billy obeyed. “Grab that pretty ass. Hold yourself open for me.”
Shaking fingers bit into plush skin, pulling, rosy entrance so inviting, on full display, and all it took was a couple tugs to spill—splatter his cheeks, empty hole gleaming, clenching on nothing.
Totally spent, equally lacking in coordination, Steve palmed an ass cheek—caught a trail of come in the webbing between forefinger and thumb… and swept it to Billy’s crack. Watched it drip on down to the furl, and, hypnotized, probed with his thumb, feeding his come into a hole that gripped around him, convulsive. Like it was swallowing.
His girl had been making this faint, fluttery sound—a gasping inhale, weak stuttering exhale, pitchy and high. So Steve kept his mouth going, shushing, crooning praise as Billy took it all, took every drop spooned into him, never loosing his hold, not even when the tip of the plug prodded where he was red and aching—he had to be aching—not even when Steve lodged it deep as slow and gentle as he could.
He only let go when Steve told him to. Drew his arms in, folded tight along his sides, one fist tucked under his chin, and sighed, long and unspooling, while Steve pulled his panties up, smoothed his skirt back down.
“Think I need a lie down,” Steve murmured, firm fingers stroking Billy’s spine. “That breakfast really took it out of me.”
A wet, throaty chuckle, then Billy extended a beseeching hand. “I’m gonna need some help walking.”
“Offer m’lady an arm?” Steve suggested, looping him in a hug from behind to lever him upright. Billy was pretty much dead weight, head tipped back on Steve’s shoulder.
“How about a wheelbarrow?” he mumbled, and Steve snickered. Kissed his neck.
.
He hadn’t planned to keep Billy waiting too long—for one thing, anything but the smallest plug wasn’t meant for extended use—but once they were cuddled in bed, trading lazy touches and the occasional whispered word, it was hard to keep track of anything except the warmth of Billy along his front, enveloped snug. They were turned on their sides, the blanket and sheets kicked to the foot of the bed, humidity already on the rise.
Steve must have drifted off at one point, jarred back to reality when blunt heat pressed his palm through rough fabric: Billy had dragged his hand down, rutting against it.
“Babe—”
“Look,” Billy puffed, cutting off his feigned outrage. “Look at us.”
Still half adrift, it took Steve a sec to crane his head up, see what Billy saw… and saw them, in the mirror over the dresser. Billy lifted his top leg, and Steve understood—hitched his knee forward, insinuating, interlocking.
“My good girl’s waited long enough?” Steve surmised, propping himself on an elbow to watch their reflection—watch as Billy let go of Steve’s hand, trusting him to take over. “Want your prize?”
Billy arched, silently begging. Curious, Steve dipped under the skirt, where the satin was damp, rubbing almost frictionless over his cock.
“So wet,” Steve breathed, then thought to check. Nuzzling his ear: “We still playing high school sweethearts?”
“Yeah,” Billy said, voice small and tight, hips hitching. “Yeah.”
So Steve went for it—full virgin fantasy, one where the guy miraculously knew what he was doing. “You ever come before, babe?”
“No.” Eyes squeezed shut, Billy hid behind his hands. “Not supposed to—touch there. But—I want—”
“I can show you how,” Steve offered, rubbing circles at the crown. “Show you how to feel good.”
As Billy murmured please—truly the sweetest word from that mouth—Steve worked him through his panties, that just-right-not-quite-enough pressure and speed that edged him along by exquisite increments, from trembling, twitching, to teetering.
Steve was riveted, eyes roving the writhing body in the mirror—the strong shapely legs, the skirt splayed about his hips, abs flexing under a cropped tee ridden up so a dusky nipple peeked out when he shifted. One hand was cupped under his head, the other arm flung out on the bed. Lids were half-mast over those baby blues, lashes impossibly long, color high in his cheeks, golden curls tumbling loose from the bun, his rosy lips mouthing the air the way he did when he was close.
He was beautiful. So beautiful. Most beautiful thing Steve had ever seen.
Bending to speak low and hushed, his stare never leaving their image, his coaxing touch never stalling, Steve returned to the earlier ultimatum. “What if I really do—want you to be mine? Give you a ring? Put a—”
Billy curled liked he’d been punched, his face twisted, moaning, “Can I—can I—can I—”
“Yes—yeah.” Blurted it, all in a rush, euphoric, and with an agonized grunt, Billy came—so much, for so long, that the sticky wet seeped through the satin, the lace, to smear on his stomach, the skirt, the bedding beneath.
And Steve realized—he’d been asking for permission. Not asking to be his. Like that.
But then Billy turned, nosing into Steve’s chest. Seized the same hand that had worked him so good and cupped it to his belly. “If we actually could, would you really want to…?”
Like he’d taken a knife and flayed open his heart, stitched him back together. Felt just like that. Steve surged forward, kissing his cheeks, his neck, bowling Billy backward.
The yelp brought him up short, freezing before scrambling to all fours, reaching for his skirt.
“Shit, sorry—we should probably—take that out.”
“You would, though?” Billy asked, parrying Steve’s arm even as he consented to be rolled onto his front. “You would—”
“Billy, I’d do anything with you.” The confession rang no less true for the thread of baffled laughter. “Anything. Everything.” He shook his head. “With you. For you. To you. I want to.”
It wasn’t even the first time he’d said something along those lines—All the time. Mine all the time—but it landed differently between them, just then. With finality.
Billy blinked, a telling shimmer along his lashes. “You’d really… give me a ring?”
Steve smiled, helplessly fond. “If you want one,” he said, suddenly bashful. “I’m pretty invested in—giving you—making you—” Cringing, flushed to burning, he forced it out. “Happy.”
And then Billy looked choked up, and Steve was getting choked up, and given he still had to get the plug out of Billy’s butt before they accidentally did some lasting damage, he groped for his ass and some levity.
“I mean…” He chuckled, gesturing at the closet. “If you’re not too particular, I’ve got a whole set of rings for you in there.” As intended, Billy shot a speculative glance at the indicated hiding spot, and Steve couldn’t help himself. Leaning in, secretive: “Not the type that goes on your finger.”
Billy snorted when the penny dropped, rolling his eyes. “Unbelievable.”
Steve shrugged, dramatically unbothered, and set to work on the plug, going slow. “If you’re not interested in those, I can totally return them—”
“No.” Hissing at the pressure, Billy shook his head. “No, that’s not… necessary.”
“Well, all right, then.” One last, steady tug, and the plug was out, shining with translucent white. “I’ll go clean this—”
The whine was so sharp that it took Steve a moment to hear the embedded word: “Later.” Yanking Steve to the mattress with the speed of a striking snake, Billy reminded him of their previous terms. “I said if you got me a ring, then you could—” Shifting, pulling, he managed to drape Steve half on top of him. “So now you have to…”
“Oh, I have to, huh?”
“If you want to,” Billy amended.
Steve nudged his grin into waves of blond. “I want to.”
Dating Robin Buckley would include
Tumblr media
Steve likes to tease her about her crush on you but will also help out regardless if she wants his help or not, he's the best wingman Robin could ask for since he'll make plans then bail just so you two can hang out and have fun together.
Will hands down notice little things about you and think their adorable but doesn't ever tell you since she doesn't want you to be embarrassed or change anything.
Will let you wear her clothes but doesn't try to wear your clothes unless it feels like her own but will happily hype you up no matter what you wear.
With everything that's happened, regardless of whether or not you know it, she will become fiercely protective over you and will do everything in her power to make sure nothing happens to you.
She loves it when you come to see her whenever she works and talks with you until it comes to a point she can't anymore.
Becomes pouty when jealous, and it'll take some time to coax it out of her because she thinks it's stupid but can't help thinking you'll find someone better.
Hates it, but she goes to Steve for dating advice but ultimately listens to Nancy instead and decides to mix both pieces of advice, which works surprisingly well for her.
She loves making jokes to make you laugh, and Steve has become an unwilling participant to be the butt of most of her jokes, but let's it go seeing how she enjoys herself with you and lets her continue to be sassy.
Her favorite forms of affection are: Holding hands or linking fingers together, Holding you close to her, Cuddling, Ruffling your hair, Tripping you up simply to catch you.
Her date ideas are: Going swimming, then getting ice cream, Going to the movies but likes being at each other's houses so you can cuddle, Going on walks, Going to an arcade or bowling.
Loves going on adventures with you no matter what it is, going to the store, or any errands you have to run or even taking a drive late at night together.
She's extremely loyal and supportive no matter what, but if her friends try to tell her anything about you, she'll try her best to actually listen, but she thinks you're perfect.
Adores having soft and gentle moments with you much like dancing around in the kitchen together or singing like you're at a live concert in your bedroom as you listen to music.
Have drama or gossip going on in your life and can't tell anybody? Not anymore Robin's here, and she'll listen and try to give feedback because who will she tell? Probably Steve, but other than the kids, nobody else knows, and she can promise you that.
Never understands when people say you both sound like an old married couple regardless if you're bickering or flirting with one another but does blush and secretly enjoy it.
She'll act dumb just to see the pure joy on your face of helping her or if it means getting closer to you, if it's opposite she'll constantly be there and help you get an answer you'll like/can use.
Doesn't like seeing other couples before you both start dating because all it does is remind her of what she can't have. Once you do start dating, she gladly flaunts and shows off your relationship proudly.
No matter what anybody says, she wants a life with you, and countless times has imagined what you both could have as far as what house, how many kids, and what kinda animal you'll have.
Tends to stick closer to you if your apart of the group that deals with the whole upside down and everything that comes along with it, doesn't ever let you out of her sight because she doesn't want you hurt nor does she know what to do if you got lost or hurt because of her dragging you along.
Will sit and talk with you for hours about whatever comes to mind, gently running her fingers across your skin or playing with your hair as she listens to you talk with a tender smile on her face and heart eyes.
Of course, loves giving and seeing the far away look in your eye, but there's something about receiving she loves just as much.
Could honestly kiss you forever even as foreplay she's waited what feels like forever so she just wants to enjoy it but she also loves feeling your body under her fingertips mapping out what feels good.
Unintentionally, leans more dominant and takes care of you and your needs while not letting you do anything unless you really make it a point to her.
Heavily vanilla and gets blushy/squirmy if you bring it up or have her join you to look around at kinky things but slowly grows comfortable with it.
September Reading and Reviews by Maia Kobabe
I post my reviews throughout the month on Storygraph and Goodreads, and do roundups here and on patreon. Reviews below the cut.
The Princess and the Grilled Cheese by Deya Muniz
Lady Camembert is the only child of Count Camembert, but as a daughter she cannot inherit unless she marries. She refuses, and after her father's death takes up a different life in the capital city, far from her hometown: she pretends to be the male heir to her father's title. This feels like the perfect solution, except then she meets Princess Brie, and as feelings begin to develop between them, Cam despairs that her secret identity means she can never be anything more than friends with the Princess. This is a beautifully drawn book, sweet and silly, full of cheese puns and historical anachronisms.
The Yakuza’s Bias vol 1 by Teki Yatsuda
Yakuza member Ken Kanashiro's life is changed when the daughter of the clan leader he works for takes him along to a kpop concert. Ken is moved by the kpop idol group's commitment, hard work, passion, and loyalty to each other and their fans. His introduction to fandom, and new social media friends, bring a breath of fresh air into his violent and dangerous life... and like most fervent fans, he starts trying to convince the people around him to stan the group to greater or lesser success. This manga series is very much in the same tone as Way of the House Husband but I appreciated the slightly longer chapters and the growing ensemble cast. It's a silly concept but with moments of genuine feeling as it shows how loving something can connect you to a whole new community.
Of Thunder and Lightning by Kimberly Wang
This is a beautiful, meta deconstruction of battle-robot manga; it plays with POV, with format, and theme. Two corporate nations struggle for dominance in a ruined world. Each spreads propaganda about the other; each has developed a pop-star like AI robot avatar, which battle each other in televised combat with custom costumes and snappy catch phrases. These robots, Magni and Dimo, exist only to destroy each other, but also find in each other their only equal. They both savor their violent encounters, but both are pushed by their creators and handlers to destroy the other. The story is half devastating elegance, half tongue-in-cheek satire. This title is most easily available through the publisher's website and I highly recommend it.
Blackward by Lawrence Lindell
Four friends, Lika, Amor, Lala, and Tony, bonded in a bookclub over being Black, queer, weird and punk. They clearly see the need for a community space for folks like themselves, but struggle with how and where to build that space. After their first attempt is ruined by trolls, they ask for guidance from a local bookstore owner and zine fest organizer. So the idea for the Blackward Zine Fest is born, an event to showcase creativity, make new connections, and maybe even find dates. This book doesn't shy away from the negative sides of existing and creating as a minority in public, but it is also a celebration of friendship and community and the power of comics!
Assassin’s Quest by Robin Hobb read by Paul Boehmer
What an exciting, explosive end to this trilogy! Fitz starts this book as low as a man can be, having returned from near death, with nearly every person who has ever known him believing him dead. He has to learn how to be human again, and learn how to care, and figure out his plans now that he has hypothetical total freedom. But the Red Ships are still pounding the Six Duchies shores, and Regal has withdrawn the strength and wealth of the Duchies inland. Verity is still missing on his endless quest. The beginning drags a little, but after the mid point of this book it is CONSTANT action and adventure, with so many twists and turns, and such a payoff at the end. If you like high fantasy, I highly recommend this series, and I'm so glad I chose to revisit it this summer.
I Thought You Loved Me by Mari Naomi
This is a long, thoughtful look at a friendship breakup, told through prose, letters, diary excerpts, collage, and comics. Mari met Jodie in high school where they bonded as rebellious teens seeking freedom from parental and academic rules. They loved the same music, both dropped out of school, and moved in the same circle of Bay Area folks for years. They were best friends- until Jodie cut Mari out of her life suddenly and unexpectedly. Years later, Mari was still trying to piece together what had happened, from lies, misunderstandings, secrets, affairs, communications lost in transit or responded to by the wrong recipient. Friendship breakups can be equally as devastating as romantic breakups- sometimes even more, as there's no societal norms on how to mourn them, and because we often expect friends to remain in our lives forever. This memoir was honest about how memory fades, how easy it can be to remember only the good or only the bad of a person colored through a specific lens, but also hopeful about the possibility of reconnection. No memoir is over while it's characters still live, and this one took more twists and turns than I was expecting! Beautiful and thought provoking.
Enemies by Svetlana Chmakova
This fourth installment in the Berrybrook series is just as charming and warmhearted as the previous volumes. This one focuses on Felicity, an artist who struggles with time management and deadlines, and with comparisons to her hyper-organized, science-fair winning younger sister. Wanting to prove herself, Felicity joins a competition for kid entrepreneurs. But coming up with a winning idea proves more difficult than she expected, especially when her partner keeps suggesting completely impossible ideas. Also, one of her best friends from elementary school stopped talking to her and now glares daggers at Felicity and she has no idea why. It's hard to keep your head up in middle school with all of the swirling emotions, homework, personal projects, and still maintain high scores in the most popular new online multi-player combat game. But Felicity has the love and support of her family- all she has to do is be willing to ask for help.
Skip by Molly Mendoza
The art in this book is absolutely gorgeous, and the page layouts are stunning. The story opens with a child, Bloom, and a nonbinary adult, Bee, surviving in a post apocalyptic world. But Bee goes off to help a stranger and then Bloom falls through an Alice-in-Wonderland like rabbit hole into multiple different trippy, strange settings were they are generally much tinier than all the other inhabitants. There's a nice through line about friendship and trusting yourself, but ultimately I found the story too ungrounded and loose to have a deep emotional impact.
Alexander, The Servant and The Water of Life book 1 by Reimena Yee
I am so impressed by the scope, artistic skill, and inventiveness of this work! The author weaves together multiple, at times conflicting, tales of Alexander the Great. It's drawn in rich colors and a wide variety of styles, many of which reference specific historical manuscript traditions from medieval European to Islamic to East Asian. I love the way the flashbacks are worked into the frame narrative, I love the shifting art styles, I am awed by the size of this project. And you can read most of this first volume online for free here on the author's website.
Ocean’s Echo by Everina Maxwell read by Raphael Corkhill
This is a creative and gripping follow up to Winter's Orbit. Set in the same larger universe but focusing on a new set of main characters in a new sector of space, this extremely slow burn romance is satisfyingly dense with military and political intrigue. Tennal is the nephew of the Legislator of Orshun; he's also a Reader, or someone who can telepathically read the emotions and surface thoughts of the people around him; he's also the black sheep of his family, a party boy and general fuck up. His aunt forces him into an army position with the intention of having him permanently mind-linked to an Architect, a soldier with the flip side of Tennal's skill- the ability to control people's minds. Tennal is horrified and begins to think of every possible way he can avoid this fate. But much larger forces are at play around him, from the mystery of a semi-destroyed scientific lab relocated in the middle of chaotic space, lies about the creation of Readers and Architects, and a coup in the making. This book is heavier on the sci-fi elements than the relationship progression, but that suited me just fine and I look forward to hopefully reading more installments in this series!
Sunshine by Jarrett J Krosoczka
When author Jarrett Krosoczka was in high school he had the opportunity to volunteer for a week at a camp for kids with cancer, their siblings, and parents. Jarrett had no idea what to expect, but he packed his sketchbook and an open mind. The experience changed his outlook forever. He had his own problems back home: a family affected by addiction and absent parents which lead to him being raised by his grandparents. But in the company of children facing life-threatening illnesses his own concerns fell away. He built relationships with some families that lasted for decades after his time at the camp. Painted in soft gray with hints of yellow and orange, this book offers an honest look at families facing the very worst circumstances and still heading out into woods to find community, friendship, and a breath of peace at a nature camp.
The Out Side: Trans and Nonbinary Comics edited by The Kao
A really charming collection of nonbinary and trans stories! Most focus on coming out, but a few talk about a later in the process piece of trans life, such as getting top surgery. I enjoyed seeing which pieces of the stories echoed each other, appearing universal, and which stood out as unique to an individual's experience.
Hard Reboot by Django Wexler read by Morgan Hallett
Set far in the future, this sci-fi novella follows a researcher from an extra-terrestrial human settlement on a scientific tourist trip back to "Old Earth". A misunderstanding leads to her accepting a very large bet on the outcome of a mecha battled, and when she losses and can't pay, she has to team up with a mecha fighter to try and win the next round to get her money back. I was able to predict the majority of the twists of this story within the first quarter of the book, but it was still fairly entertaining as a short audiobook listen.
Best. Ceremony. Ever: How to Make the Serious Wedding Stuff Unique by Christopher Shelley
I just officiated a wedding for the first time in my life, and this book (while cheesy) did actually help me get started writing the ceremony speech. It gave me the general outline of the beats I needed to hit, and some smart ideas of little touches or moments to include. The book is very inclusive of same-sex couples, which I really appreciated. Its also padded out with a completely unnecessary 50 page glossary of terms, so I only really read/skimmed the first three quarters of it, but I'd still recommend it if you are either planning or officiating a wedding.
It’s a snot-fest, honestly.
Like anyone can blame for crying on your wedding day. Well, you call it crying but Robin had called it blubbering which might be more of an appropriate word for it. Some silly part of your soul sings when she tells you that Steve is doing no better, two doors down the hall from you, and apparently on his 2nd box of tissues already.
How the pair of you are going to survive the ceremony is beyond anyone.
You do, though. It helps that it’s not really a proper ceremony. There’s no priest, no officiant that isn’t just one of your friends. Along with a series of other undisclosed skills, Murray surprisingly has the legal power to wed you. Strange man, you think to yourself, but you’re thankful for it. Keeps the wedding among friends.
It’s small numbers, just enough of you to fill the backyard. You get married amongst the flowers, in the evening sunlight, just enough of a breeze to swish your dress. It's a perfect first event to hold in the glorious backyard of your new home.
Will had painted the bunting that’s strung above your heads, pastel and dreamy, fluttering in the wind. The bouquet in your hands was gathered by Erica and Lucas, who had taken the job very seriously, and found beautiful purple and yellow flowers from the nearby meadow. Eddie pleads Steve to let him set off fireworks after the ceremony, sneaking you a wink that tells you he probably will anyways. It's hard not to feel utterly surrounded by love.
Steve’s eyes are already red rimmed by the time you meet him at the altar.
His vows are short but bursting with love. He promises all the important things, like to always split the last pancake with you, to only use his puppy dog eyes when he really wants something, and to never let his girl go a day without a proper good kiss.
After your teenage adventures with alternate dimensions, the til death do us part comes as easy as air. And you mean it.
Despite all your practice, the kiss is a bit fumbled — too much excitement between the both of you. It‘s a bit alike to the first time you kissed Steve, way back when. This time, however, the clumsy kiss means something different all together. Steve has no shyness around kissing you; it’s his own excitement for the future trickling through. For your future together.
His warm hands hold you tightly. You don't even mind that Steve hasn't waited for Murray to tell him he can kiss the bride.
As Murray announces your official union, Eddie and Dustin yell like they’re attending a concert and not a wedding, hooting and swinging their ties above their head. Robin attempts to join them but can’t get hers undone for the life of her and instead, helicopters it around in her hand while it's still attached to her neck. Steve laughs as he steals a glance at the small crowd, the garden filled with love, and swallows, his throat thick with emotion.
He turns back to you, eyes shining, and presses his forehead down against yours. You feel full, breaking at the seams with how affection runs wild in your veins. You think you could live in this moment forever — could bottle it and drink it and get stupidly drunk with how in love you feel.
“Thanks for marrying me,” Steve murmurs, words wobbly. Words meant just for you. His eyes scan your face, the brown a bit lighter through his tears. You wonder if he’s committing this moment to memory as you are. “Wasn’t sure I’d have any takers for a minute there.”
You startle a laugh that comes out doused in emotion. A poke at the time he’d floundered for dates for more than a year after the break up with Nancy; at least, he had until you came into the picture. There’s irony in it, considering how you’d seemed to be enamored with each other from the very beginning.
You think you’ve always known you’d end up here, with him, one way or another.
“That’s okay,” It comes out awfully sentimental, even as you aim for a jest. “Any time, really.” You say, with an insistent nod and another wet-sounding laugh.
Steve’s chest tightens impossibly — he feels like he’s got no heart at all, just a cavity that you fill with burning hot love. The flowers dance in the wind behind you, your friends clap and cheer, but it all feels worlds away. There’s no room for any other emotion, just love.
“I have never loved you as much as I do right now.” He says, voice sappy beyond words. It’s genuine, the words as tender as they are softly spoken. It’s a whisper on the wind but not a secret.
You don’t need to tell him the same, he already knows. You remind him with another kiss and finally remember your friends, feet inching towards the makeshift aisle. There’s bouquets of wildflowers tied to the seats with twine. You’re in love.
“C’mon, husband.” You say, grin like starlight. Steve thinks he could hear those words forever.
join the celebration!
