Diablo IV is out, at least in Early Access, and while things seem to be going smoothly so far on PC—fingers crossed—loads of PS5 players have run into a wall and can’t access the game.
It’s not a traditional “servers down” or “queue full” kinda deal either: instead the issue preventing them from logging in is a licensing one, with players getting “Unable to find a valid license for Diablo IV” screens, which is an error they should only be getting if Blizzard couldn’t verify their purchase license, but which is currently affecting people who have clearly paid for the game. And not just the game, but the more expensive versions of the game!
The issue is so widespread that only an hour after launch Blizzard had already noted it both on Twitter and the game’s forums, promising they are “looking into this right now and will update once we have more information”. The problem is mostly affecting PS5 players, but there are also isolated reports of Xbox users getting the same message.
While folks have been waiting and endlessly retrying their logins, however, some have stumbled on a temporary workaround. It seems that making a $1.99 currency purchase—you don’t need to login to the game to access its store—kicks something in the backend and is letting some players in.
I’m not recommending you do this—it’s not guaranteed to work, and you’ve paid for the game already, don’t pay more!—just pointing out it is very funny that a full-price game that is already going to try and fleece you with microtransactions is now inadvertently offering another to circumvent a rocky launch.

Quick rl update
Job: On my third week at my new job! Rocky start but has gotten better. Lots of room for growth and learning for myself which is what most excited me about it in the first place, because at my old job I just didn't have time for it. And this one I can really delve into the nitty gritty once baselines are established. Last week was more or less just writing and it feels like that's what the next 2 to 3 weeks will be because their website badly needs it, but it's writing about cleaning products and home accessories rather than something fun like, you know, Stephen. Man, imagine if I was paid to write fan fiction I wanted to write XD
Mentally: Doing a lot healthier! Started therapy in January when y'all saw me spiraling. Best decision ever. Got real lucky with my therapist. She's really clicking with me. Helping change thought processes I've had for yeaaarrrssss and I'm noticing a difference already. Though there's of course ups and downs it's been a good trend overall.
Projects: The new job requires me to go to an office at stupid-o-clock and while it's nice to be home at 5, I am heading in bed by 10:30/11pm now. So I've had to shift my writing schedule like 2 to 3 hours from where it used to be. But it seems to be working so far, interestingly enough. The Blood doc is just a bit longer than the last time I reported, at 55k, but I outlined a lot of key points and dated them, and got a last bit of research done, so progress has been made. 12 chapters are completed, 13 is near complete, and I'm writing bits of the next 3 or so chapters just in the order I feel like as I know the general beats of the story from here on out, i think. Though the characters continue to surprise me.
I'll be joining the ironstrange big bang, but as an artist. I've got two other huge writing projects so I didn't want to add another this year. The platonic bit on it just really excited me though. I felt wanted ❤
I also started rping on a Marvel/MCU mash up literate rp server last week. I got accepted to play Stephen 😀 the rp is super slow, like days between postings (like old forum boards) so it definitely won't make it so I can't write fanfic. I don't know what the server policy is for public archiving, but once my first scene gets done (which may not be for a month or two if folks are super slow in replying) I'll ask if I can archive on ao3 so I might share with others. We'll see! If I can yall will see my still pretty-new MCU Stephen meet a more experienced Doctor Doom which is just not the dynamic in the comics in terms of power, so that will be interesting to see how that plays out!
Haven't read a ton here on tumblr so I hope everyone is doing okay!

Building my business' online presence
It's the year 2020. The significance of digital marketing for businesses grows even larger, and online trends continually change at a fast pace. According to Adweek, 81% of consumers conduct research online before making a purchase. If this is the case and you haven't started building your business' online presence yet, then you're missing a lot of opportunities! Don't you think it's time to scale your business online?
Tumblr media
It may sound overwhelming at first, especially when you are just starting, you aren't sure where to start, and you've seen a lot of your competitors actively sprouting in online platforms. I get you. And it's normal to feel this way. But finding yourself reading this article right now means you are on the right track! Good job for taking the first step! Now, let's talk about building your business' online presence. Let's start with four basic points you need to consider:
1. Reassess your business goals and be specific about your target market.
What kind of service do you want to offer? Who needs such a service? Plan and segment your target market into specific groups of people. Think of these people and their characteristics. How will you convince them to avail of your services?
Having a clear understanding of your business goals and target market will help you come up with better solutions and services. These will also serve as your guide when you start creating engaging content on your website and social media channels later on.
2. Establish your brand identity.
It's time to elevate your business by establishing your brand identity. What is a brand? According to Forbes, your brand is what your prospect thinks of when he or she hears your brand name. You can take it as a bridge that links you to your audience or customers. Brands are represented by creative elements such as logo, theme, colors, tagline, and experience. When you develop these creative elements, make sure that you incorporate in it your business name, goals, and strategy.
Creating a strong brand is one of the keys to successfully marketing your business. Your brand statement must be strong and relatable to your market. Make it consistent, unique, and memorable so you'll stand out from the crowd.
3. Choose your social media channels wisely and optimize them!
Social media channels allow you to deliver your brand message and reach out to your target market in a snap of a finger. You can showcase your business and brand on social media sites like Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, YouTube, and Pinterest.
As a business owner, one of your primary goals is to attract customers and make them want to avail of your service. Building your business' online presence through the right social media channels can help your customers find you. Through these channels, you can engage with them and allow them to inquire with your services, submit sign-up forms, book appointments, read your blogs, interact with you through the comment section and live videos, explore your services, and a lot more! But take note that it's not only you who's online. Your competitors, too! Thus, you need to come up with an effective social media content plan and update your website and pages regularly. Consistency is the key.
4. Build an online community
You've taken the small steps and started engaging with your customers. It's time to leverage the channel by expanding it into an online community. Online communities can help you deepen your connections with your customers and gather organic feedback and data that can help you improve your services. With this, you also give your customers the chance to interact with each other through forums and discussions.
Building an online community can further boost your business online presence and connect you with people who may eventually become your brand ambassadors!
I hope these four basic steps can ease the burden and lighten the loads off your back. It's going to be a rocky road ahead but I'm positive that you have the capacity and the right tools in scaling up your business' online presence.

FeatheryJustice
So far, first impressions, holy cow the art is amazing.
Ash🦀
1. My favorite part about the beginning was the style. It immediately drew me in how everything was lovingly rendered in color that made me feel like I was seeing the world for the first time. It made me want to paint, too! 2. When we first see the man. Whoo buddy. Whoooooooo buddy. That was... a finely sculpted painting there. I could’ve framed him and hung him on my wall if the artist would let me. WHOOOO BUDDY. 3. My favorite character so far is Martel. I don’t write them often, but I love seeing kids in media, and I love the design of her hair. I know it’s a random thing to make me like her but I just... really like her hairstyle. She’s cute, and I’d guess she’ll be a breath of much-needed light air later in the story. 4. Mystery man and Martel are precious. 5. I point to answer 2 here. That lovingly sculpted chest? My heart was a-flutter I tell you what. 6. The art style is just... SO LOVINGLY RENDERED. The quiet moments of baking bread juxtaposed against a chaotic battle was SO. GOOD. Aaaaaah Could also be that that particular part is my favorite part of making bread so it was extra special aaaaaaah 7-8 I haven’t seen enough of the story to answer these yet! But the art is banging and I can’t wait to read more. Subscribed.
Eightfish (Puppeteer)
I've read this before and the art and story aren't really my thing. Since critique is allowed I could give art comments if CronaJ would find that kind of thing helpful? But even though I won't be following the story I was still impressed by how much care the author puts into it. Both from looking at their comic and from reading their comments on this discord and on the tap forum it's clear they've put a ton of effort into the art and story, and haven't cut any corner.s And all the panels are so rendered. I wonder how long it takes to draw a page?(edited)
Cronaj (Whispers of the Past)
Hey everyone! I'm the artist and writer of Whispers of the Past. I want to thank you all for your kind comments and observations so far. It really means a lot to me to hear what others think of this heartfelt project. I know that the story is in the beginning stages right now. But I'm looking to post the end of the first chapter this week, so hopefully a bit more will be revealed soon. Please feel free to ask me questions about anything, or (to answer @Eightfish (Puppeteer)'s question), to offer critiques for how I can improve what I'm doing.(edited)
Cronaj (Whispers of the Past)
@FeatheryJustice & @Ash🦀 I'm glad you enjoy the artwork. The painting process is probably what takes me the longest when it comes to pages. In response to @Eightfish (Puppeteer)... It takes me around 30-40 hours per page, and I try to post 2-3 page updates. Obviously, the amount of time spent per page varies depending on several factors, such as: the number of panels, the level of complication of poses, how many characters/background elements there are, and sometimes just whatever weird reason my brain isn't working that day ^^; So for my average 5-7 panel pages, they typically take longer than, say, a full-page spread. @Ash🦀 I'm so happy that the first few pages pulled you in! I spent a lot of time deciding on how I wanted to draw those panels, and what style to use, etc. I actually redrew the first 3 pages at least 5 times before settling on them as they are. And, you can hang and frame the image of our male MC if you want, haha, I actually don't have prints of it, but it is something to consider That particular panel was a one-page spread, so I was able to dedicate a bit more detail to it. Maret is a worthy favorite character. She is too pure and precious, and she just wants to make friends with everybody. Even when the "strange man" is kind of curt and unfriendly to her, she wants to befriend him. Also, I am SO unbelievably glad that you picked up on the juxtaposition in the bread-making scene! Ahhhh! I had a lot of fun with that one
FeatheryJustice
1. The Pacing, I love slow starts to comics because I get to absorb it and learn more. 2. Favourite Moment? Dude trying to climb out the window and failing. That was really funny XD 3. Mysterious dude from the water of course. He has pointed ears, you know something is up. 4. I like Maret and the mysterious man, it seems like a child being like 'this is new and I want to learn more' Also thank you for not writing a grating child character. They sometimes turn up too pure to be real, or too grating because they are too real. Maret at least has that nice balance of a healthy child will not acted spoiled but still want things because child like the scene where she was shoo'ed out of the room. 5. I think we talked about htis a long time ago, but I love the way you draw hands and feet! 6. Nothing so far, not sure where the story will head so I can't answer this. 7. I like the start of the mystery and the slow ramp up. We are just getting comfortable and I'm sure we are going to get rocky soon! 8. Art, from seeing Cronaj spend so much time on it, it's freaking amazing. I can almost feel the characters come to life.
Also on a side note, I want Maret to hear from the Conch shell (As a memey joke) "Under the sea, under the sea" XD
(Mysterious man has red hair, I wouldn't be surprised he turned out to be a mermaid XD Sorry I'm just on slight crack theory mode right now. He didn't sell his voice though)
Cronaj (Whispers of the Past)
When I was first writing and planning this comic, I was a little scared about how slow the start was, but I'm glad that it has been interesting despite the slow nature of the exposition.
2. Favourite Moment? Dude trying to climb out the window and failing. That was really funny XD
@FeatheryJustice Accurate! He's kind of an idiot, and he panics over nothing. For Maret... I actually based her character partially off of my two younger sisters, so that might be a lot of what contributes to her personality and realism. We did talk about hands and feet before! I love drawing hands, because they are so expressive and complex, but hate drawing feet because they are complicated. But I did study from life to draw Maret's feet, because I felt like I would mess it up otherwise ^^;
Hahahaha! I could definitely make an edit of that, tbh.
FeatheryJustice
That would be a funny joke panel if you ever want to do one. XD It's like replace the diaolgue memes XD
Cronaj (Whispers of the Past)
And I was partially making a mermaid joke when I had the reference to mermaids in the comic because he is a redhead
Definitely an idea....
I would title the episode "Whispers of the Crack"
FeatheryJustice
OMG YES I would love to see that XD
Cronaj (Whispers of the Past)
I have a WotP meme folder on my computer already
carcarchu
1. What did you like about the beginning of the comic? Mystery man pretty 2. What has been your favorite moment in the comic (so far)? i liked the part where maret was listening to the conch for mermaids, had a lovely magical charm to it 3. Who is your favorite character? mystery man 4. Which characters do like seeing interact the most? not too many interactions so far but maret and the mystery man were cute 5. What is something you like about the art? If you have a favorite illustration, please share it! the sunset scenery had a nice vibe
also i can see why people were saying it reminded them of ruroni kenshin, mystery guy especially with his hair up and on the cover image is reminiscent of kenshin but storywise doesn't remind me of it at all
carcarchu
I have some critiques that i'll cover in case you don't want to see them. SPOILER The anime-ish emotes (the blush and the anger vein) to me clash against the realistic artsyle and detracts from the moments, some more subtlety with them would be appreciated. And Maret doesn't really look like a child to me, her face is very mature so it makes her look older than she is. Moreover the 3 characters that have been introduced thus far have very similar facial features. For maret and agatha they are siblings so it makes sense but the mystery man is (presumably?) not related to them so i'm not sure if that's intentional. In any case more facial diversity would be appreciated going forward (if it's just your style that's fine too). And this is a really small nit-pick but the first panel of chapter 6 has horse hooves with the sfx thump thump thump. In my opinion this sfx should be clip clop clip clop END SPOILER
Cronaj (Whispers of the Past)
@carcarchu Thanks for the notes! I actually had a hard time deciding how to portray blush noticeably in a more realistic style, haha, but I can definitely see why it's jarring. Do you have any tips for how to depict blushing without anime emotes? I would just make it more reddish/pink, but it always looks weird to me (or too unnoticeable). As for Maret... She looks like a child to me? She's six, so she isn't quite a toddler, so I don't know if that changes your perception of her. She actually resembles my youngest sister a great deal, and my youngest sister was 5, almost six, when I designed her. (I just looked through the pages again, and there's maybe one panel that I think she looks slightly older in, so if anything, I'll try to fix that panel.) So yes, obviously Agatha and Maret look very similar, hahaha. They are biological sisters, so that makes sense. There will be at least two more characters introduced that are also related to them (and look fairly similar as well) and one character who will be mentioned who is also related and looks just like Agatha. Other than that, Izrekiel does look somewhat similar, I suppose, but it might also be partially that he canonically has a very feminine face as opposed to other male characters to be introduced later. It could be that and also a bit as a result of my style. I'm not sure. Ahhhh, sound effects! I also struggled with deciding what to do here. I wanted to do something different than "clip clop," mostly for a stupid personal hang-up. (I don't know why, but "clip clop" always looks so comical to me.) But if it helps translate the sound better, I might just have to bite the bullet and change it. Thanks for your feedback! Even if I don't agree with all of it, it does help me to take a closer look at what I've done with some different eyes. (edited)
carcarchu
That's fair! You don't have to accept anything just my thoughts (i hope nothing i said was too harsh) for me thump thump is a dull sound whereas clip clop or clippity clop is a sharper and harsher sound
Cronaj (Whispers of the Past)
yeah, I think you're right about that
thump is more like a heartbeat
or someone falling on carpet or something
carcarchu
and as for the blush question i think there are ways to depict a similar emotion without relying on the blush itself as a short hand like the softening of the eyes, the shape of the eyebrows, looking down and heck even body language can help with this. expression is more than what is shown on just the face
Cronaj (Whispers of the Past)
Thank you. I always feel like my characters look too stiff, like mannequins. ^^; I'm probably not going to completely redraw any old panels at this point, but I might make a few alterations to these panels to make it more consistent with later panels down the line.
carcarchu
i also noticed that a lot of your panels are the characters looking straight towards the "camera" and i would appreciate more varied angles and perspectives
Cronaj (Whispers of the Past)
Particularly with the first ten pages, that is certainly true
I got that note before, but I didn't redraw every panel, only some which looked particularly bad.
carcarchu
personally i never edit old chapters unless i 1. forgot to draw something important 2. there's a huge typo 3. it's missing a panel
any critique you can just keep in your heart and implement if you choose to do so moving forward
keii'ii (Heart of Keol)
2. I really liked "what if it's mama?" - a lot of hints condensed there: family history, how the topic of deaths/ disappearances are handled around children (either in that family specifically, or in that culture), and also a moment that shows a glimpse of Agatha's sisterly love instead of having the readers assume it.
snuffysam (Super Galaxy Knights)
Really loving the comic so far! Right now, I'm most interested to learn about this family situation. I'm guessing their mother is dead or missing, but what about their father? I suppose his clothes were still in the house so maybe he just went out? Or maybe they're both missing and it was just fairly recent?
Also, the paint-y style of this comic is just incredible
Cronaj (Whispers of the Past)
https://media.tenor.com/images/878a64d90a1139bcb1e863ee29bfa929/tenor.gif
I'm so happy that you guys picked up on the clues about their mother. It alludes to some pretty plot heavy stuff that very few people have really commented on so far.
eli [a winged tale]
Oooh I’m so excited for your story Cronaj! Here are my answers~ 1) I love the beach scene! Maret with the shell is adorable and you established their relationship right away 2) Fav moment is probably the scene transition to our lad waking up with Agatha going about her day. It’s very peaceful and I’m a sucker for slice of life stuff. 3) Can’t pick just yet~ I like Agatha as a solid protagonist though. 4) More Agatha x mystery man please 5) I loooove the illustration aesthetics. Bold colours! 6) haven’t gotten to the core theme yet I’m sure but first impressions/meeting are always exciting. 7) I’m excited for what is to come. Can’t wait for the call to adventure. 8) Strength is definitely the art - beautiful and bold. Keep up the wonderful work!
Cronaj (Whispers of the Past)
@eli [a winged tale] Woah!!! You're the first person I've heard say that they like Agatha! She's mah girl! (And don't you worry, there will definitely be a lot more Agatha x Mystery Man ) Thanks for participating
eli [a winged tale]
she’s a solid sister!
sagaholmgaard
1. What did you like about the beginning of the comic? I like how the intro had a nice balance between art and text. Usually if there’s a lot of text on the first page I can get deterred from heading a comic, but here I think it worked really well! And the loverly painting of the ocean sunset also reeled me in and fit really well with the poetic text! 2. What has been your favorite moment in the comic (so far)? ”He’s the prettiest man I’ve ever seen!” LOL (and she’s right too…) 3. Who is your favorite character? I like the kid! But I’m excited to learn more about the other characters as the story goes on! 4. Which characters do like seeing interact the most?
I liked Agatha and Mystery Man interacting, it felt very natural and I’m curious to see what comes of it. But the dialogue felt pretty strong which I gotta applaud 5. What is something you like about the art? If you have a favorite illustration, please share it! The beautiful shot of Mystery Man on the beach of course, lol! I love the way the hair is rendered, it really feels like it’s has weight and is spread out in the sand, if that makes sense? 6. What is a theme you like that the comic explores? It seems like it will explore a lot of interesting themes in the future, such as grief and finding where you belong, so again I’m interested to see what the story brings! I’m sure it’ll be good no matter what :D Overall I like what I’ve read so far! It’s not the type of art style I usually gravitate towards, but I can tell a lot of love is going into rendering and I think we’ll be seeing Crona’s art improve a lot as the story goes on, which is always exciting to see!
RebelVampire
What I like about the beginning of the comic, which also goes for what I like about the art in general, is the attention to detail in the background colors and lighting. I've never seen such a beautifully rendered (what I assume is) a sunset. It really makes everything have this great almost mystical atmosphere to it. In general, though, the art so far is definitely the comic's strength because you can see the sheer passion in every drop of it. My favorite moment so far is when Maret gives Izrekiel some flowers and then drags him off and he's just meekly protesting. It was both cute and comedic and the preciousness hurt my heart. This is also why this is my favorite pair of characters interacting so far. I think the age gap combined with the context of Izrekiel's situation is gonna lead to lots of awkwardness that I look forward to. As for fave character, though, I would have to go with Agatha right now. I don't know what it is about her, but everytime I see her I feel like I'm looking at an old soul. Like maybe someone who still has a lot to learn about the world, but is wise beyond her years in other regards. And it makes her a captivating character for me.
While I'm not sure if this will be an overall theme throughout, I like that the comic starts to deal with the theme of loss and hope. On one side you have Agatha who just kind of accepts loss and deals with it, and then you have Maret who just lives on in hope. And I kind of feel they represent two dynamic sides to the issue about whether its better to cling to hope or just move on and deal and how both can be harmful if not expressed in the correct way. As for overall story content, while we're not that deep in, I do like it starts with a multitude of mysteries cause mysteries are always great for making ppl want answers
Eightfish (Puppeteer)
Since Crona said they were good with art critique: The main thing I noticed when I first saw the art was that, though lovingly rendered, the characters' faces and bodies are kind of stiff. They don't really scrunch up their eyes and faces when they emote- it's mostly just the eyebrows (this was especially noticable when Maret was crying, or on the latest page, first panel, where Agatha's face doesn't really match her body language or words). And characters often don't seem to twist their bodies as much as they should. Oh- also the same camera angles of faces and bodies are repeated a lot. Front, 3/4, and profile. It'd be cool to see some shots with foreshortening from above or below the characters. Also the lighting is pretty diffuse- the characters seem to be shaded about the same way, and with the same colors, regardless of the lighting situation. I can still tell where the light is coming from, because there are those strong bright highlights in the direction of the light, but other than the bright highlights everything else seems to be shaded as if there was another light source coming from straight ahead. Also, sometimes characters seem to lose their shadows? Like on this page https://www.webtoons.com/en/challenge/whispers-of-the-past/ch-1-what-the-waves-left-behind-pt-3/viewer?title_no=191366&episode_no=4 where Agatha doesn't cast a shadow on the man, or this page https://www.webtoons.com/en/challenge/whispers-of-the-past/ch-1-what-the-waves-left-behind-pt-8/viewer?title_no=191366&episode_no=10 where they're running.
Those things being said though, I was still very impressed by the sheer amount of effort put into this comic. 100 hours/ update is absolutely insane. And you pay so much attention to the inanimate objects of this world. It makes the story feel grounded. About what someone else said: I agree that the cartoonish blush looks out of place. But I disagree about Maret- I think she does look like a child. 5. Favorite illustration? Definitely Agatha's hands when making dough. Not a critique but just a question: I was confused on the location of the story. Where is this?
Cronaj (Whispers of the Past)
Ooof. Finally got a chance to sit down and respond to all these comments. I keep rereading them over and over again, so thank you so much for sharing your thoughts everyone! I've noticed a few themes with what people have commented so far: Maret is most people's favorite character, the panel of Izrekiel on the beach is also very popular, and the theme of loss/grief is apparent to the readers (which I'm very happy about.)
@sagaholmgaard I'm glad that you mentioned the theme of "finding where you belong" too, because it is and will be a very prevalent theme in the comic. And reading your comment about how the dialogue seems natural made my day. I used to worry about how the dialogue came off constantly, and to hear that it's strong is so encouraging.
@RebelVampire As is expected, your comments are very thought-out. The interaction between Izrekiel and Maret after he falls from the window is one of my favorite moments so far as well. I'm happy that Izrekiel's behavior came off as meek in this scene, because that is one of the defining traits of his personality. I'm glad for another Agatha fan! She is such a fun (and difficult) character for me to portray. There are so many layers about her that even I am still discovering. She is definitely an old soul, and he experiences growing up have definitely matured her beyond her years. As I mentioned before, the theme of loss is definitely a major theme of the comic overall. And hope as well, since I think the two are very connected.
Cronaj (Whispers of the Past)
@Eightfish (Puppeteer) Thank you for offering your critiques! Character stiffness is definitely one of my major problems that I'm working at. I definitely see what you mean about Agatha's face in the latest update. Her eyebrows look painted on (pun not intended). I have been looking forward to having some more dynamic poses, especially foreshortening, but I do find it somewhat difficult when most of what the characters are doing so far are standing, sitting, talking, and maybe doing something with their hands. ^^; Hopefully, in the future, when more "action" happens, it will be easier to do this. As for bird's eye or worm's eye shots, I'm not gonna lie, I struggle with them so much. I had two bird's eye panels, and those took so much time, and I still don't know how I feel about them. If you have any tips for exercises, I would be so grateful. (Finding reference isn't always possible.) I also would love some tips/resources on how to get better at lighting. Again, lighting reference isn't always possible for specific panels, so it would help me a lot to learn how light works in general. OOOOOOF! I don't know how I missed the lack of shadow on Izrekiel in that panel. That was 100% a stupid oversight on my part. The scene with Agatha making dough had some of my personal favorite illustrations for a while. :) Also, your question about the location, I'm not entirely sure how to answer it?(edited)
It's a high fantasy story, so the location is entirely fictional.
Cronaj (Whispers of the Past)
The best I can answer that is to say that the story takes place in a country called Shai-Ryam, consisting of four major "districts" in a semi-tropical temperate peninsula called "The Aka Peninsula," named after the native people who originally lived there. As of right now, they are in a city called Gon Atam, a seaside village on the western shore of the Nuata District, near the Ocean of Saturuna. It is a city heavy in trade and with a long history, yet quaint and small due to a disaster several hundred years ago. It is only now being repopulated.

DISCUSSION PROMPTS – PART 2
9. Where do you think Izrekiel comes from, and what is his past history that seems to haunt him? Additionally, how do you think he wound up with amnesia and seemingly abandoned by the sea?
10. How will Izrekiel’s past history affect events of the story? In particular, how will revelations about his past affect his relationship with Agatha and other characters?
11. How do you think Agatha’s life will change from her encounter with Izrekiel? Will it somehow lead her to a more exciting life? If so, will it make her miss her simpler life with her family?
12. What are the biggest questions you have so far and are hoping to see answered over the course of the story? Also, what do you think will happen in the story in general?
Don’t feel inspired by the prompts? Feel free to discuss anything else that interested you!

9. Okay, so, here’s my theory. Just a guess. So Izrekiel is from a very war-friendly people up north who need land. Izzy just isn’t all about that life, but feels like he has no choice. Then he gets hurt fighting someone close to him (I’m putting money on brother or cousin who lives on the “wrong” side of things, hurt because he just couldn’t fight them at full strength. And then he realizes he can’t do it, while on the ship bound for new fight zones. His captain gets wind of it and is like “oh no I can’t let Mutiny Happen” so HeS all long ike “either fall in line or get off my ship” and Izzy is like “no I don’t wanna fight anymore heck you guys” and the captain proceeds to yeet him off the ship, leading him to the island, which, unbeknownst to him, is the next target. That’s my guess. Might be wildly off. He might be part mermaid. (Merman? Is mermaid gender neutral?) 10. Izzy or his bros probably killed one of Agatha’s family members, possibly the mom? Possibly violently? Which is why she never told babygirl what’s up. It’s probably going to be remembered in the buds of their relationship, hes going to try to hide it but it’ll come to light and she’s gonna be like “Izzy I hate you” and it’s going to make me cry. 11. She’s going to have a bread making partner in the end. They’re going to have adventures and go back to a domestic bread making existence, I speak it into being now /smacks table That may just be what I want to happen, though, as I very much enjoy bread making and wish others the same simple joy of giving dough a good smacking. 12. IS THE MOTHER REALLY A MERMAID OR WHAT Is Agatha a mermaid Are they like Selkies where they can come onto land a little Is babygirl a mermaid too(edited)
Cronaj (Whispers of the Past)
Omg... I love reading these theories. I won't say you're wrong or right, but this is a riot. I'm thoroughly enjoying this.
FeatheryJustice
9. Pulls out my Crack Theory brain Okay, so Iz is actually not a very hot man, but actually a really hot princess, transformed into a man since she was exciled from her country but their rules are to give the exiled a new life so they shape shift them into something else. Iz got shifted into a man, and the lovely wide bare chest was because their top was lost to the ocean like how someone would lose their bathing suit top to the sea. Anyways, knowing nothing about themselves, Iz now lives their life as a man never remembering they were a princess in the first place. Ends Crack Theory 10. Don't know, can't say for now. 11. She could always politely kick him out later, so I can't say for now. XD 12. I want to know if there are monsters in this story or just like different species warring it out.

^ I like this theory
Eightfish (Puppeteer)
@Cronaj (Whispers of the Past) Oh! I missed that it was high fantasy. I thought the story was historical fiction. No wonder mystery man has pointed ears. I was so confused- I kept thinking, oh, she looks Polynesian and lives by the ocean. But wait, her name is Agatha and she makes bread? And the houses look Japanese? What culture are her clothes from? The world being completely fictional explains all that. I think I was confused by the real names in a high fantasy story- you don't really see that a lot. Finding the right reference for lighting or pose is impossible for me. I have no tips. The only way I've found is to make my own references. I will sit in front of a window, or take a lamp into a dark room or something, and prop my phone up and take photos of myself in the poses and lighting direction I need. But hey, at least that way I don't have to worry about stealing someone else's work?
(i also like feathery's theory)
Cronaj (Whispers of the Past)
@FeatheryJustice Crack theories are best theories.
@Eightfish (Puppeteer) Oh! I had no idea you thought it was historical fiction No wonder you were confused! There's a lot of weird cultural-mixing shenanigans going on in the setting, and it's a bit confusing.
I should try that, for now the lighting has been primarily sunlight, or diffused sunlight (which I don't think I depicted correctly).
RebelVampire
Time to crack story theory. I don't know enough about the world to guess a name to where Izrekiel is from. However, wherever it's from, I get the impression its embroiled in a bloody war that is suffering heavy casualties. I imagine that Izrekiel mightve been in a battle and just wound up in the sea by circumstance - like maybe was taken as a prisoner of war and jumped overboard to escape. Something like that. As for the amnesia, well, Imma chock that up to PTSD cause the brief flashbacks we got don't look pleasant. However, I definitely think someone will come looking for him, and that these someone's will make trouble with the people he's just met - perhaps even forcing them to abandon their home with people in pursuit. And I'm sure as Izrekiel remembers more, others are going to really view him as potentially dangerous and blame him (but then get over it cause he's pretty O_O) Given that, I do think Agatha is gonna leave home because of Izrekiel's past running after them. I do think she's inevitably gonna miss the simpler life. Not to the point she won't rise to the challenge, but to the point that she's gonna be like "wait theres danger out here and i didnt even get a sword from an old man in a cave!" As for biggest questions, right now I'm just kind of hoping to see more of the world cause current world events really are gonna dictate a lot where the story could go.
Eightfish (Puppeteer)
Dude I was literally googling the names to see what country they were from because I thought they were from some obscure real island with a history of cultural mixing that I hadn't heard about before.
Cronaj (Whispers of the Past)
Hahaha! Yeah, Agatha is an English name. Maret and Kelan (a character that hasn't been introduced yet) are Irish names. Aalia (another character that isn't introduced yet) is an Arabic name. Kehhasan (another character) is a made-up name. Izrekiel is a made-up name inspired by the biblical names Israel and Ezekiel (although technically it is often spelled in their alphabet as "Isarikieru," which has a particular meaning and pronunciation in an even older—fictional—language). Ryukou (another character), is a real-ish name, based off of the Japanese names "Ryu" and "Kou," which mean "dragon" and "peace/light" respectively. Four other characters have fictional names: Ia, Tammamori, Soro, Ghita (although technically it's a Greek name, that wasn't my inspiration). And of course there are hundreds of side characters with a combination of weird names and name origins.

Deo101 [Millennium]
So! I don't really do so well with answering questions, but I do want to say it's inspiring to me to see just how much WORK is put into this comic. It's really lovely to see so clearly how much you care for it. Just want to give some general words of encouragement, keep it up!
Ash🦀
I’m most looking forward to seeing more of Izzy how the story develops along with your painting. There are so many hints and peeks at the world, and I can’t really guess where it’s going. I feel like I already care for these characters, and I can’t wait to see their journey. I am also not good at encouragement, as generally I’m fueled by spite. But I just wanted to say, keep going! You got this! We believe in you!
eli [a winged tale]
Keep up the good work Cronaj! Your art is beautiful and I can’t wait till we start rolling into act 2!
FeatheryJustice
I'm excited to see what else comes up next!
Cronaj (Whispers of the Past)
Thanks for all the kind words and encouragement everyone! I'm so happy to know that you are enjoying the story so far!
RebelVampire
I'm most looking to learning a bit more about the world structure I think. Since I think current events are really gonna hint at a lot what's going on. As for final words, this is an artistically wonderful comic with a lot of love put in, and I can only imagine how things will improve in the future!
snuffysam (Super Galaxy Knights)
I'm just really looking forward to seeing these characters grow! This is a beautiful comic, and I can't wait to get more of it!
Cronaj (Whispers of the Past)

Operation: Buried Debts
Tumblr media
(Operation: Buried Debts splash)
07 March 2019 – 25 March 2019
Foreshadowing
Thursday (07 March 2019), several Warframe Partners received URLs to hidden minigames that revealed maps of the Orb Vallis. Four minigames were distributed, each with one quadrant of the entire Orb Vallis map. The puzzles, once solved, revealed several locations of interest on the Vallis.
The puzzle URLs are:

The solved map is below:
Tumblr media
Operation
On Thursday (07 March 2019), the event began with the release of Update 24.4 and was set to run for two weeks (later extended by 4 more days because of matchmaking issues). The forum post gave more background on the event:
This Operation begins with a Community Goal – the hunt is on, Tenno. Can you unlock the secrets of the dead? If you've been paying attention to DevStreams, you may already know where to start looking….
You can receive Operation-specific rewards by participating in parts of this event.
The first reward is more abstract – you can expand the Orb Vallis by solving a puzzle… together.
Thermia fractures are cracking open the surface of Venus, a consequence of Nef Anyo's unrelenting greed. He's willing to do whatever it takes for a quick profit, including putting the whole Orb Vallis at risk. By figuring out how to stop the Thermia fractures, you're able to earn these rewards:
Operation Emblem
Amalgam mods x4
Operation Sigil
Opticor Vandal
You get 1 point for each Thermia fracture you close – if you close 4 fractures with 1 Coolant canister, you get 3 bonus points (7 total)!
And eventually, an incredible new boss fight will unlock where you can earn Hildryn! We are expecting this to take approximately a week with the estimated pacing of this Operation. Free players – we appreciate your patience; rest assured, Hildryn is a completely free warframe for you to earn as the Operation unfolds!
Good luck, Tenno. You can all help each other if you know where to look.
Upon entering Fortuna, Eudico's greeting lines would be replaced with event-specific dialogue.
Eudico: "Quick geology lesson: thermal fractures are what you get when you pump too much coolant into the ground too fast. Displaced Thermia has to go somewhere. Now we've got Thermia fractures threatening to roast Fortuna. Nef can fix this, but he won't… instead, he's got that mucking Exploiter Orb harvesting the surface Thermia for quick profit. Get out there, locate a fracture, and I'll help you seal it. Oh, and Sparky: you run into that Exploiter Orb out there, you leg it. Once she ices up, nothing can touch her."
For the duration of the event, a global resource booster was active on the Orb Vallis, doubling any resources gathered, even for activities unrelated to the event.
Mechanics and Missions, Phase One: Data-hashes
On the Orb Vallis, Tenno could travel to the locations marked on the solved map and find "data-hashes", small scannable objects. The event tracked community progress in scanning the data-hashes, meaning a set number of the Tenno had to scan the data-hashes in order to advance the event to the next stage; a single Tenno who had scanned all the fragments had to wait for the community to reach the goal. Scanning them would trigger transmissions from Rude Zuud and Eudico.
(upon scanning the 3rd data-hash) Rude Zuud: "Yes, Eudico showed me your little discovery. To find meaning in this garbage you do not need a craftsperson; you need a fortune-teller. [chatter] I will not! [sigh] Fine. [chatter] Fine! I will examine your treasure once I have nothing better to do. Which will be never!"
(upon scanning the 5th data-hash) Rude Zuud: "What? More? Whatever. Put it with the rest."
(upon scanning the 7th data-hash) Rude Zuud: "More? Why do you bother me with more? [chatter] I do not…. [insistent chatter] There is no…. [very insistent chatter] FINE! Chatter thinks… believes… these are glyphs. Part of a… part of a passphrase."
Eudico: "Passphrase? For what? How'd these get out here?"
(upon scanning the 10th data-hash) Rude Zuud: "No. [chatter] No. [insistent chatter] No. [frantic chatter] No. [comforting chatter]… [sad chatter]"
(upon scanning the 13th data-hash) Eudico: "Sparky, you've nearly uncovered the full set. Zuud? Could really use your help right now. What exactly does the passphrase open?"
Zuud: "You can never go home. We should never go home."
(upon scanning the last data-hash) Eudico: "Sparky. I think I know what that passphrase opens, and it's not a place I thought I ever could, or would, want to return to. Look for a gateway in the caves northeast of Harindi Crater… you'll know what you're looking for when you find it."
Northeast of Harindi Crater is a small plain between a rocky mountain range to the west and a sloping rise to the east. At the top of that rise, at the eastern-most edge of the map, is a structure similar to the Fortuna elevator. The storm at the edge of the map will prevent the Tenno from actually reaching it, but in front of the entrance are several bodies, fleeing the structure, frozen in the snow.
To the southwest of the elevator entrance, in the mountains bordering the plain, is a cave entrance. Just inside is a platform with the Solaris United symbol, a console, and a sealed gate.
(upon arriving at the gate) Rude Zuud: "Nnnng… Chatter… Chatter says we must pass through… through that… gateway. NnnnngAAH! NO!"
Eudico: "I was afraid of this."
Rude Zuud: "The words open this gateway. This gateway leads to… nnnnnno. They wait for us. Some debts can never be paid. Some debts, we are too small to collect."
Eudico: "Zuud? Zuud? Sparky – those glyphs you uncovered are the key to opening this gateway."
The console had a 16-digit passcode, but while the community goal was still unreached, the glyphs were scrambled and the passcode could not be entered.
Mechanics and Missions, Phase Two: Thermia fractures
In various places around the Vallis, Thermia fractures could be seen. At these locations, the icy crust of the terrain was ruptured and a plume of orange flame would rise out of the ground.
(upon approaching a Thermia fracture, variant) Eudico: "Exploiter loads her Raknoids with refined coolant. They need the thermal regulation when harvesting Thermia. We can use that coolant to dilute the Thermia and seal these fractures. Go crack open a Coolant Raknoid and use its canister on this fracture."
(upon approaching a Thermia fracture, variant) Eudico: "We need refined coolant to close the fracture. Find a Coolant Raknoid."
The Exploiter Orb, which can be found near the Temple of Profit in the northwest, is followed by 5 Coolant Raknoids. These Raknoids can be killed, dropping a coolant canister. If Coolant Raknoids are killed, more will be spawned by the Exploiter Orb to keep the number at 5. The Exploiter Orb, and her Coolant Raknoids, will attack any Tenno who venture close (though the Orb Mother herself will not stop or deviate from her path). Once a coolant canister has been obtained, the Tenno must find a Thermia fracture on the landscape and place the canister on it.
(upon approaching a Thermia fracture with a coolant canister, variant) Eudico: "If Nef won't do anything about these fractures, we'll do it for him. Let's get this fracture sealed."
(upon approaching a Thermia fracture with a coolant canister, variant) Eudico: "You ready? Drop that refined coolant into that fracture to get the party started."
(upon placing a coolant canister on a Thermia fracture, variant) Eudico: "Incoming forces. Protect the canister!"
(upon placing a coolant canister on a Thermia fracture, variant) Eudico: "Defensive positions. Do not let them destroy the canister."
(upon placing a coolant canister on a Thermia fracture, variant) Eudico: "Keep 'em off the canister while it does its thing."
Once the canister is placed, the alert level will immediately rise to 3 stars, though it will decay if no alert beacons are placed and allowed to stay up. Corpus forces will begin to arrive from all directions, by dropship and warp-in, to attack the canister. The canister must be protected as it seals the fracture (a process that takes roughly 3:30 minutes).
(if the coolant canister is destroyed) Eudico: "Mission's a wash. We're done here."
(upon sealing a Thermia fracture, variant) Eudico: "Done, but there's still coolant in the canister. Grab it and let's find another fracture. This diluted Thermia could come in handy."
(upon sealing a Thermia fracture, variant) Eudico: "Fracture sealed. Let's do it again."
(upon sealing a Thermia fracture, variant) Eudico: "Grab the canister and get to another fracture."
The sealing process could be repeated up to 4 times with a single coolant canister. If a canister was used to seal 4 fractures, it would disappear when picked up and add a Diluted Thermia to the inventory of all Tenno in the squad. Diluted Thermia was a resource described as: "A magma-like liquid that is diluted with coolant during the extraction process. Thermia can be found fracturing the surface of the Orb Vallis during thermal flare-ups. Could this be the key to weakening the Exploiter Orb's defenses?"
Each Thermia fracture sealed rewarded a point. If 4 fractures were sealed with a single coolant canister, then 3 additional points would be awarded – thus, a Tenno could earn 7 points from a single canister, defending it 4 times.
Once the Tenno achieved 5 points, they would receive an inbox message from Eudico containing an Operation: Buried Debts emblem.
Inbox message: VALLIS FRACTURES: A Token of Appreciation
You're getting the hang of it. We just wanted to send you a little something by way of encouragement. Don't let up.
—Eudico
Once the Tenno achieved 25 points, they would receive an inbox message from Eudico containing the Amalgam Serration and Amalgam Shotgun Spazz mods.
Inbox message: VALLIS FRACTURES: I Think It's Working
You're doing good work, Sparky. At the current rate, Smokefinger charts a plateau in seismic activity before long. That's good news for Fortuna. Keep it up.
—Eudico
Once the Tenno achieved 50 points, they would receive an inbox message from Eudico containing the Amalgam Barrel Diffusion and Amalgam Organ Shatter mods.
Inbox message: VALLIS FRACTURES: Looking Good!
The Vallis is more stable these days, thanks to the work you're doing. But we've still got fractures erupting every day, and until Nef concedes the threat, we have to take care of ourselves. Find them. Seal them. We're counting on you.
—Eudico
Once the Tenno achieved 75 points, they would receive an inbox message from Eudico containing an Operation: Buried Debts sigil.
Inbox message: VALLIS FRACTURES: Real Progress
I clock 75-plus fractures sealed. I shudder to think what state we'd be in if we didn't have you helping us out like this. Kids are shutting down sound in their racks, knowing you're out there. Thank you.
—Eudico
Once the Tenno achieved 100 points, they would receive an inbox message from Eudico containing an Opticor Vandal, with a pre-installed Orokin Catalyst and free weapon slot.
Inbox message: VALLIS FRACTURES: Thank You
Sparky, what can I say? You're doing singly what none of us could have done together. Fortuna still lives, thanks you your efforts in sealing those fractures. But we're not resting. Not 'til Nef shuts down Thermia extraction entirely.
Thank you. From every rig jockey in the place. We owe you.
—Eudico
Mechanics and Missions, Phase Three: Escalation
On Thursday (14 March 2019), the community goal was reached. The Exploiter Orb now had voice lines that she would shout while patrolling the Temple of Profit:
"As Nef Anyo sows, so do we reap."
"Learn from what I am, children. Destroy our past to build our future.""
"Obedience is efficient. Efficiency brings Profit. An obedient child profits all.
"The disobedient shall not be spared the rod. Solaris United, value the punishment I provide!"
"The unruly require instruction, not sympathy."
"Thermia, children. To me. Better out than in."
"Those who intrude at unwanted hours are never welcome."
"To keep your feet upon the ground, I place burdens upon your shoulders."
"We protect our virtue. We safeguard against the rogue."
The 16 data-hashes were revealed to be glyphs in the Corpus language, which could be rearranged to form the passphrase "THE DEAD HAVE DEBTS". Upon accessing the console in the cave revealed in Phase 1, the passcode would already be entered and the gate would open on approach. After a short passageway and another gate, a set of mournful voices could be heard solemnly humming "We All Lift Together" as the Tenno emerged into an underground Solaris Base.
Eudico: "Home again. Deck 12. Most of the old SU… never made it out. Legs' folks. And Zuud's sisters. It broke her, you know? We've all tried getting through to her, but… she insists they never existed. Zuud?"
Rude Zuud: "I hear them. My sisters. Everything they hear… echoes from my sisters' ears to my… mind. One by one, I remember them saying… goodbye."
The Solaris city is an exact replica of Fortuna in layout, but it has been damaged by rockfalls and overgrown with giant fungi. There is a giant hole ripped in the ceiling by the elevator shaft, and light shines down from the Venusian surface.
(upon approaching The Business' stall, seeing many burnt bodies) Rude Zuud: "We never thought Nef would trigger fractures here, in Deck 12. They huddle together. Thermia… everywhere. My sisters…."
(upon approaching the Thermia condenser near the Ventkids' vent) Rude Zuud: "This is… the last thing… we made together. Seven minds. All thoughts communal. Before we were reduced to one. A thermic condenser…. Wait… condensed Thermia… volatile. Like, melt-Exploiter's-defences volatile. Finish what we started."
(upon activating Thermia condenser) Rude Zuud: "Why can't I remember their names?" [loud mechanical roar] "What was that?"
A large Raknoid creature – the Exploiter Orb – will appear in the hole in the cavern ceiling, and will climb down the shaft, stopping halfway down to prop herself up on some rock ledges and fire at the Tenno below.
Exploiter Orb: "Solaris United! You shall not be spared the rod, as those who came before you were not spared!"
Rude Zuud: "HEY! I remember you. Word of advice: run, while you still got legs."
(variant) Rude Zuud: "Oh no you don't! Get down here and take what's comin' to you. Blow out her footholds!"
(variant) "Hey! We wanna talk to you! Sparky, be a love and potshot her footing?"
The Exploiter Orb is invulnerable to all damage. The Tenno must shoot at the ledges the Orb Mother is standing on. Once they are destroyed, she will fall to the cavern floor, level with the Tenno. Once on the floor, her four ventilation shafts will be exposed to fire.
(variant) Rude Zuud: "Take out her ventilation."
(variant) Rude Zuud: "Her vents! Bust 'em."
The Tenno must destroy one of the protruding ventilation shafts, while avoiding the fire from her under-mounted turret.
(upon destroying a vent) Exploiter Orb: "Children, the winter chill invigorates our character and fortifies our bodies."
The Exploiter Orb will encase the remaining three vents in ice and move to the opposite side of the chamber, deploying dozens of Mite Raknoids and creating an ice storm around her that repels all enemies.
(upon reaching the other end of the cave) Exploiter Orb: "Solaris United! You must be taught what to think, not how to think. Look at me when I'm speaking to you!"
Rude Zuud: "Iced her vents? Thinks she's indestructible. Not today. Purging the condenser. How's your throwing arm, Tenno?"
Three machines on the ground floor of Deck 12 (corresponding roughly to the Fortuna positions of The Business, Legs, and Rude Zuud) will light up and begin dispensing canisters of condensed Thermia on the ground. These can be picked up and thrown at the Exploiter Orb's iced-over vents to thaw them and expose them to fire. Each vent needs to be hit with three canisters of condensed Thermia before it can be damaged.
(when the Tenno is carrying a canister, variant) Rude Zuud: "Lob the canister at her vents. Don't miss."
(when the Tenno is carrying a canister, variant) Rude Zuud: "Toss that Thermia onto her frozen vents."
(upon thawing the ice on a vent) Rude Zuud: "Shields down. Do your thing."
(upon destroying two more vents) Rude Zuud: "Oh yeah! Now she's sweating! Now she's sweating!"
Exploiter Orb: "Hardship builds character. Children: Mother requests the pleasure of your company."
After two of the remaining vents have been thawed and destroyed, the Orb Mother will move to the centre of the cavern and prop herself up on the second level, deploying several Coolant Raknoids, which must be destroyed.
(upon killing a Coolant Raknoid) Exploiter Orb: "NO! Monsters! You kill children?!"
(upon killing a second Coolant Raknoid) Exploiter Orb: "Bullies! Bullies are not tolerated in my presence!"
(upon killing a third Coolant Raknoid) Exploiter Orb: "AAAAH… unkind… unkind…."
After all the Coolant Raknoids have been destroyed, the Exploiter Orb will move to the far side of the cavern, where she came in.
Exploiter Orb: "You will not have me so easily. MY fangs… are fully grown."
The Tenno will have to thaw and destroy her remaining vent.
(upon destroying the last vent) Exploiter Orb: "My chiiiildrennnn. They did NOTHING to you."
Rude Zuud: "My sisters! TELL ME THEIR NAMES!"
The Exploiter Orb will climb back up the shaft and onto the surface.
Exploiter Orb: "Come, children. It is a fine day to visit the city. Burn. Them. All."
Eudico: "Fortuna. She's going to attack Fortuna! Her mind has snapped. Get out there and stop her!"
The Tenno must exit Deck 12 the way they came in, emerging from the cave onto the snowy plain. The Exploiter Orb will be waiting for them there. Her attacks in this phase are more fire-based than ice-based, since her cooling apparatus has been damaged.
Exploiter Orb: "Some fresh, cooling… air… I think… shall do me good…."
The Orb Mother is still invulnerable to damage, but her attacks on the Tenno will heat her up, depicted by a gauge on the HUD. Once her gauge reaches around 25%, she will begin summoning Coolant Raknoids from all directions.
Exploiter Orb: "Attentive children are a joy to all. Attend me, little ones."
Rude Zuud: "Call them. Call them, and know what it means to feel them die."
Eudico: "Don't let those Raknoids cool her off. Keep the heat on."
If the Coolant Raknoids reach the Exploiter Orb, they will break their coolant canister and spit the coolant onto the Orb Mother, cooling her off by about 5% each. If they are destroyed before deploying their coolant, they will drop the coolant cylinder on the ground.
Once the heat gauge reaches around 45%, Exploiter Orb will begin slamming her body onto the terrain, cooling herself off significantly upon the icy ground and causing multiple Thermia fractures to break out in the vicinity.
(when causing fractures) Exploiter Orb: "DIE!"
Eudico: "Watch it! She's fracturing the terrain!"
Rude Zuud: "Tell me and we'll make it quick. What were their names?!"
The coolant cylinders dropped by the Coolant Raknoids can be picked up and taken to a Thermia fracture, where they will instantly seal the fracture (without having to defend it) and result in a canister of concentrated Thermia. This canister can then be thrown at the main body of the Exploiter Orb, which will increase the rate of overheat. Once the Orb Mother has reached full overheat, she will stop moving and attacking and stand dormant.
Exploiter Orb: "There is…. We shall…. Those who…."
Eudico: "She's rattled. Quickly: rip off that hatch!"
The Tenno must go near the Orb, which will trigger a brief cutscene wherein the warframe leaps onto the Orb's body, rips out a chunk of the hull, and smashes it off to expose a gout of flame from the Orb's interior cognition engine before jumping off and landing on the ground.
(after the cutscene) Eudico: "Her cognition engine is exposed! Shred it!"
Once the cognition engine is exposed, the Tenno can finally damage the Orb directly by shooting the flaming port and targeting the cognition engine.
Exploiter Orb: "We are not at home to visitors!"
Once a third of her health has been depleted, the port will cease being vulnerable and the whole process of overheating and throwing concentrated Thermia must be repeated.
(when summoning Coolant Raknoids) Exploiter Orb: "Medicine, children. Mother needs her medicine."
Eudico: "Stop those spiders!"
(when causing Thermia fractures) Exploiter Orb: "If you will not be a model, you shall be an example."
Eudico: "Gonna need more Thermia!"
(upon overheating) Exploiter Orb: "Mother needs to rest her eyes… just… for a moment…."
Rude Zuud: "Rip that panel! Before she comes to!"
Once again, the Tenno will leap onto the Orb and rip off a piece of the hull to expose another flaming port, which must be damaged, depleting another third of the Orb's health before overheating her one more time.
(when summoning Coolant Raknoids) Exploiter Orb: "Nothing shall replace a child's love for their Mother."
Eudico: "Raknoids! Bringing in refined coolant. Don't let them reach the Orb."
(when causing Thermia fractures) Exploiter Orb: "Division."
Rude Zuud: "More Thermia! More Thermia!"
(upon overheating) Exploiter Orb: "If…. When…. I…."
Rude Zuud: "Kill her."
For the third time, the Tenno will tear off a piece of the Orb's carapace, this time the frontal horn on the Orb's "face".
(during cutscene) Rude Zuud: "She's exposed. Shut her down."
Exploiter Orb: "We shall not suffer disrespect!"
Rude Zuud: "Ssh. That's enough."
Depleting the rest of the Exploiter Orb's health will cause her to collapse spastically on the ground, flames erupting from every part of her body.
Exploiter Orb: "And… so I turn from the tumult of the world… toward home… that sweetest spot… 'neath the circuit… of the sun…."
Eudico: "Sparky, get in there! Grab what you can before she goes critical!"
Within a few seconds, the Exploiter Orb's body will detonate, dealing massive and generally lethal damage to everything within 500 metres.
(after detonation) Eudico: "She… she's down. Zuud? You did it! Zuud? Zuud, you okay?"
Rude Zuud: "Score's paid. Debt's settled. Slate's clear."
Eudico: "You remember them. That's all that matters."
Rude Zuud: "I remember us. You knew us. You know… our name."
Eudico: "We've never forgotten. Me, Biz, Smokefinger… any of us."
Rude Zuud: "We had a name. Our name was… our name was Zuud. [soft chatter] The Zuud. Thank you. [sweet chatter] Yeah? Don't get used to it! The lot of ya."
The Tenno would be free to return to Fortuna, remain out on the Vallis, or enter Deck 12 to re-initiate the fight again.
Rewards
The points earned from sealing Thermia fractures were tallied and Tenno were rewarded for hitting certain benchmarks.
5 points: Operation: Buried Debts emblem
25 points: Amalgam Serration and Amalgam Shotgun Spazz mods
50 points: Amalgam Barrel Diffusion and Amalgam Organ Shatter mods
75 points: Operation: Buried Debts sigil
100 points: Opticor Vandal (with weapon slot and installed Orokin Catalyst)
The Exploiter Orb fight also yielded plentiful rewards, including Lazulite toroids, component blueprints for the Hildryn warframe, the Shocking Step and Freezing Step Ephemera, an articula, and large amounts of rare Vallis resources. All resources earned during the event were doubled by a global resource booster on the Orb Vallis.
After the event was over, the Thermia fractures stopped occurring. The Exploiter Orb fight could still be done if the Tenno had leftover Diluted Thermia from the event. Thermia fractures would periodically break out across the Orb Vallis, allowing Tenno to collect Diluted Thermia to engage the Exploiter Orb.

Bringing the Hammer
The team has been hard at work the last few months improving their toolsets to watch over Destiny 2.  They have some important information to share on how we’re improving your search for Glory in the Competitive playlist.
Security Team: Throughout Season 3, we’ve been working on improvements to our systems that identify players who may be tampering with their connection to Crucible matches or breaking the Terms of Service for Destiny 2. We have some news to share, but first a point of clarification… We have received reports from players who have been using bungie.net or other third-party websites to attempt to identify wrongdoers. We want to clarify that our internal tools have much more detail, which players do not have access to. For example, a player who returns to orbit or switches their character will show as did not finish on a third-party website, while our internal tools have much more detail on the reason they left the match. This helps to ensure that we do not hand out restrictions when opponents are disconnecting due to temporary networking or ISP issues or opponents leaving of their own accord. Using this data—and working with the PvP team directly—we’ve recently updated our detection and analysis tools and re-checked the previous four months of matches from the Competitive playlist.
Effective September 4, 2018, we will apply more restrictions and bans to player accounts that benefitted from opponent disconnects at a highly abnormal frequency throughout Season 3 with our improved detection methods. This will include “voluntary” disconnects when players are repeatedly matching against the same opponents.
We are also updating our Account Restrictions and Banning Policies to detail the potential forms of punishment.
Depending on the severity of infractions, players may receive Crucible restrictions and bans.
This will remove access to pinnacle Crucible rewards, such as Redrix’s Claymore, Redrix’s Broadsword, and Luna’s Howl, and any pinnacle Crucible rewards released in the future.
For the most severe infractions, players may permanently lose access to all Destiny 2 activities, including PvE.
As we begin to apply this moderation, we will be crosschecking matches to ensure the proper levels of punishment are applied. We’ll continue to apply and revise our detections throughout Season 4 and beyond.
If you believe you’ve encountered a player who is breaking the terms of service, please see Report Suspected Cheating on help.bungie.net. This page details all available forms of reporting to Bungie for the platform on which you play.
As a final note, thanks to everyone who plays Destiny 2 legitimately. We appreciate the time you invest in our game, and we’re working hard to ensure everyone has a good experience when rightly earning their rewards.
Pardon Our Dust
Since the Year 2 deployment on Tuesday, we’ve seen reports that matchmaking time in the Crucible may be taking longer than usual. While no deliberate changes to matchmaking were deployed in Update 2.0, we have been investigating this issue.
We are planning to deploy a fix that we hope will increase the speed of matchmaking queues. As our investigation continues, please stay tuned to @BungieHelp for updates on our progress.
Upon the launch of Forsaken, skill matching will work in the same manner it has in recent weeks (i.e., no skill-based matchmaking). In the near future, we will preview any planned improvements to matchmaking in Crucible Labs first, so we can tune that experience collaboratively. As always, our commitment remains to communicate all changes to the competitive ecosystem in advance right here on bungie.net.
Thanks for playing!
Download After Download
As we said last week, things are a little weird right now. Player Support has been on the front lines, troubleshooting issue reports and identifying workarounds for some of the oddities you might be seeing since the release of Update 2.0.0.
This is their report:
Destiny 2 Hotfix 2.0.0.1
On Tuesday, September 4, Destiny 2 will undergo maintenance to receive Update 2.0.0.1. The conclusion of this maintenance will mark the launch of Destiny 2: Forsaken, and this hotfix will be required to log in and play. For the Hotfix 2.0.0.1 deployment schedule, please see the times listed below. On Tuesday, September 4:
7:00 AM PDT: Players will no longer be able to log in to Destiny 2. Players leaving activities will be returned to the title screen. Hotfix 2.0.0.1 will begin rolling out across all platforms and regions.
7:30 AM PDT: Destiny 2 will be taken offline for maintenance, and all remaining players will be returned to the title screen.
7:30–10:00 AM PDT: Destiny 2 will remain offline for maintenance.
10:00 AM PDT: Destiny 2 maintenance is expected to conclude, and Destiny 2: Forsaken will become available to play on all platforms.
For Hotfix 2.0.0.1 patch notes on September 4, players should keep an eye on our Updates page or follow @Bungie on Twitter for live announcements.
Destiny 2 Update 2.0.0 Known Issues
Over the past few weeks, we have warned players that the weeklong transition between August 28 and September 4 may be a rocky one. In direct response to player reports on our #Help forum, we have listed below some of the known and emergent issues we’ve tracked since the launch of Update 2.0.0. Please be aware that not all of the issues below will be resolved in Hotfix 2.0.0.1.
We are aware of an issue impacting players’ ability to obtain specific loot from the Nightfall strike “Strange Terrain.” This issue should be resolved on September 4 with Update 2.0.0.1.
The XP bar is not showing XP gains for players at the level cap. This is a UI issue, and all players will continue to earn XP and Bright Engrams at their expected rates. This issue is expected to be resolved on September 4 with Hotfix 2.0.0.1.
We are currently investigating an issue that causes the precision multiplier for some weapons with explosive rounds to be incorrectly capped, making them deal less total damage than intended.
We are investigating reports of issues impacting sandbox gameplay, including Hand Cannon recoil on PC and aiming down sights not cancelling properly.
Some Year 2 Forsaken weapons and armor may drop prematurely from world loot sources. Items awarded to players early may see minor changes following Hotfix 2.0.0.1 and the launch of Destiny 2: Forsaken on September 4.
Some objectives that require Heroic strikes will not be achievable until Hotfix 2.0.0.1 on September 4.
Players who still have the “Spicy Ramen” quest will not be able to complete it because the ramen shop is no longer distributing expired coupons.
For the full list of known issues, as well as possible mitigation steps, players should see our Update 2.0.0 Known Issues list.
Gear Infusion and Level Requirements
Once Destiny 2: Forsaken is live on September 4, players may begin increasing their Power and character level beyond their Year 1 limits. As with all increases to player Power in Destiny 2, players should be aware that infusing gear with a requirement above their current character level will make the infusion recipient unavailable for use until the player levels up. For example:
A player logs in to Destiny 2: Forsaken on September 4 at character level 30
The player receives new gear with a level 31 character requirement
The player infuses the new gear into their favorite Year 1 gear
This Year 1 gear is no longer available for use, since it has adopted the level 31 character requirement from its infusion material
The player must then increase their character level to 31 to reequip this gear
Players should pay extra attention to the character level requirements on their gear as they climb to max level in Destiny 2: Forsaken. Mod Changes for AllAs a reminder, mod changes will take full effect on September 4 at the launch of Destiny 2: Forsaken. Listed below is the full experience that players will encounter once Hotfix 2.0.0.1 becomes available.
Year 1 weapons will not accept Year 2 weapon mods
Elemental attributes on Year 1 weapons will be locked, and you will no longer be able to change them
Some targeted Year 1 Power weapons have had their elemental attributes changed and locked for Year 2
Year 1 armor will accept Year 2 armor mods
Year 1 Gear will not receive randomized perks
All Year 1 mods will be deprecated at the launch of Destiny 2: Forsaken on September 4
Year 1 mods may safely be dismantled ahead of time in preparation for the Year 2 mod system
Solstice of Heroes T-Shirt Redemption
As of this past Tuesday, Solstice of Heroes and Moments of Triumph have concluded in Destiny 2. Players who achieved 250 Triumph Points or more and redeemed the Triumph Shirt reward in-game are eligible to generate their Solstice of Heroes T-shirt code on their Bungie.net profile until September 12 at 10 AM PDT.
Players who generate their code by this deadline have until September 30 at 11:59 PM PDT to redeem their code at checkout with their shirt order at the Bungie Store. At that time, all remaining T-shirt codes will become invalid, and players may no longer place new Solstice of Heroes T-shirt orders on the Bungie Store.

A list of queer romance publisher alternatives to Riptide
I have been feeling really bummed and saddened over the news about Riptide, which has been my go-to fave queer small press ever since it was founded. I have spent years talking it up all over the place, and part of my frustration now is that I haven’t done more to either give a push to other queer romance publishers or actively support and familiarize myself with other queer romance publishers.
So I wanted to make this list, partly as a resource for anyone, be they author or reader, who is wondering what alternatives there are — and partly to reassure myself that other places (besides just Dreamspinner and LT3) are out there.
Please note! You can also support Riptide authors directly through other forums. Here is a Google Doc that’s tracking the list of Riptide authors and their alternate websites and Patreon accounts.
I wish this list were longer, and especially more diverse (and not just a sea of white dudes in M/M fiction). These are listed here, basically in descending order of how closely I think they adhere to or represent a transformative-fandom fannish sensibility regarding queer fiction and queer representation. Obviously opinions are my own, no one else’s, etc.
LT3 - https://lessthanthreepress.com / @lessthanthreepress — fandom-friendly queer & genderqueer romance and cross-genre fiction. (Status: Open to submissions.)
Carnation Books (I meant to include this one earlier! Thanks for pointing out the omission.) - / @carnationbooks - this is a new boutique queer romance publisher with fandom roots.
Nine Star - https://ninestarpress.com/ / @ninestarpress - boutique press, diverse queer & genderqueer spectrum romance. (Status: Open to submissions.)
Interlude - http://interludepress.com/ / @interludepress - boutique press, diverse queer romance. (Status: Open to submissions.)
Dreamspinner - https://www.dreamspinnerpress.com / @dreamspinnerpress, wide range of exclusively M/M romance; its offshoot, DSP Publications, is a boutique focusing on multi-genre queer romance. (Status: Open for anthology submissions.)
Harmony Ink https://www.harmonyinkpress.com / @harmonyinkpress, imprint of Dreamspinner, specializes in both New Adult and Young Adult. (Status: Closed to general submissions.)
Supposed Crimes - https://supposedcrimes.com/ / @supposedcrimesbooks - Fandom-friendly queer publisher focusing on a wide range of queer genre fiction, mainly speculative, but including romance and erotica. Also they have a section for fanfiction of themselves.  (Status: Open to submissions.)
Lovelight Press - this is a self-publishing collective for queer romance with a group pay-it-forward economy that I don’t quite understand, but it seems cool! Anyway, they’re mostly M/M with a side of F/F. (Closed.)
Manifold Press - queer romance small press focusing on plot instead of erotica, with a mix of modern romance (both F/F and M/M) as well as historicals. Yay Regency lesbians!! (Status: Closed to submissions.)
Ai Press (as in shounen ai a.k.a. yaoi) - https://ai-press.net/ - This is a mainly M/M-focused romance publisher with a section for yaoi-inspired M/M novels. (Status: Closed to submissions.)
Bella Books - https://www.bellabooks.com/ / @bellabooks - this is a small press for exclusively F/F romance, but they also partner with lots of other small-press F/F publishers, which is cool. (Status: Open to submissions.)
Wilde City - https://www.wildecity.com/ - this is an exclusively M/M publisher that divides itself between gay erotica, gay romance, and gay mainstream. (Status: Closed to submissions.)
Desert Palm Press - http://www.desertpalmpress.com/contact-us.html - tiny press for exclusively contemporary F/F romance. (Status: Open to submissions.)
Loose Id — this is a multi-genre romance publisher with an equal mix of het and M/M romance with a side of LGBTQ spectrum content. (Status: Closed to submissions.)
Sapphire Books - publishes a wide range of lesbian fiction including romance and erotica. (Status: Open to submissions.)
Blind Eye / @blindeyebooks is a small press specializing in queer genre (mainly speculative) fiction including romance. (Status: Open to submissions.)
Lethe - https://www.lethepressbooks.com / @lethepress, publishes selectively but has a wide range of queer fiction. (Status: Closed to submissions.)
Bywater Books - http://www.bywaterbooks.com/product-category/genre/romance/ /  @bywaterbooks - this is a small press devoted to lesbian literature, including romance. (Status: Open to submissions.)
Triplicity Publishing. This is a queer small press mostly focusing on F/F romance but with a side of M/M. (These covers are absymal, sorry.)  (Status: Open to submissions.)
Ylva - https://www.ylva-publishing.com/ / @ylvapublishing - this is an exclusively F/F romance press with a broad multi-genre selection. (Status: Open to submissions.)
Decadent Publishing is a romance publisher mainly focusing on paranormal / shapeshifter romance, but they do a lot of other romance subgenres as well, and offer MM and F/F alongside het. (Status: Open to submissions.)
Everything from here on down is pretty much mainly commercial erotica / erotic romance:
Rocky Ridge — this is a small queer romance publisher focusing apparently exclusively on M/M titles — also they have English-language yaoi (BL) manga. (Status: Closed to submissions.)
Cleis - http://cleispress.com/ @cleispress publishes queer non-fiction and fiction emphasizing gay and lesbian erotica
Thurston Howl - https://www.thurstonhowlpublications.com/ / @thurstonhowlpub - okay so it’s a furry press that is self-avowed progressive queer feminist. obviously YMMV but that’s pretty cool!
Red Ferret Press - This is the erotica offshoot of Weasel Press, which emphasizes queer genre fiction that’s diverse, literary, and transgressive
Changeling Press - this is a hodgepodge of geeky speculative erotica with a category for “slash fiction” i.e. M/M romance
Bold Strokes Books - https://www.boldstrokesbooks.com - this is a queer publisher with a wide range of commercial queer fiction and erotica including romance and YA
Love Lit Press which is maybe called Beau to Beau, or maybe the latter is an imprint of the former? IDK, anyway, it’s mostly a vanity press for two authors, one het and one queer, but on the side there’s lots of M/M erotica / erotic romance, ranging from historical to contemporary.
Affinity Rainbow - queer romance press focusing on F/F fiction
Cool Dudes Publishing - of course this is M/M romance
MLR Press. This stands for Man Love Romance and is M/M erotica.
Cobblestone Press - This is an erotic romance press with a side of almost exclusively M/M fiction.
Pride Publishing - queer romance mainly focused on M/M erotica with a side of F/F and spectrum content.
Extasy Books is a queer erotica press with a separate imprint, Devine Destinies, for non-erotic adult and YA fiction.
Riverdale Avenue - romance press with an even mix of het & queer erotic romance
Phaze and Mundania Press - two weird imprints of a mysterious LLC with no web presence that each seem to be your average commercial erotica press with a side of M/M and F/F categories
Sizzler Editions - erotica with categories for M/M, F/F, trans, etc. But in case “gay male” wasn’t enough, they also have an additional section for “MAN LOVE.”
Excessica mainly publishes het erotica with a side of gay and lesbian erotica.
Carina Press is an imprint of Harlequin; it’s your standard commercial erotica with categories for M/M and F/F. (Status: Open to submissions.)
Etopia - This is a romance publisher focusing on erotic romance with a range of genres — some het but mostly M/M. (Note: They have a legally inaccurate, somewhat misleading anti-fanfic clause in their submissions guidelines. Also, they are open to submissions.)
There’s also the Kraken Collective / @krakencollective which is a closed group of queer sci-fi and speculative fiction authors that works to promote the group’s work as a whole.
I’m pretty sure I’m probably missing out on even more, so if any of you know other active queer-inclusive small presses that I missed, let me know and I’ll update the list!
Also, I feel I should give a shout-out to the traditional publishing imprints that have been taking dives into publishing (mostly M/M) romance — in particular, Berkley and Avon. You can find writers like Cat Sebastian and K.J. Charles and C.S. Pacat among their ilk, and say what you will about the mainstreaming of the subculture, I think it’s mostly been a good thing.

“WE’RE A GO!”
This was part of the subject line of an email I received a week ago; one that I was weirdly relieved to receive.  It was from the Race Director, Sherpa John, at Human Potential Running (HPR), confirming that the Silverheels 100-Mile Endurance Race is on!! Over the last two months those of us within the sport of ultramarathon’s have seen so many of our races canceled, for good reason.  I have followed a few of the organizations out there and they are doing an amazing job keeping us updated.  John, at HPR has been keeping the entrants updated via occasional emails or news via his podcasts.  Wanted to use this forum as another way to say thank you to him and this crew, but also the town of Fairplay, CO and South Park county.  They all met last week to make a final determination on whether to run the race.  Fortunately, that decision was a yes. Of course, and justifiably so, it will go off with some stipulations; Sherpa John and his crew needed to establish a “Social Integration Plan” for this and all other races they run.  This plan includes temperature checks for all runners, volunteers, crew, pacers, etc., we will need to wear masks during start/finish, at aid stations, and when passing other runners.  The aid stations will be modified, and their operation will change as well; but THE RACE IS ON!!  A lot of hard work and effort from many parties went into making this happen and I am grateful.  Of course, it still is not a definite because there is much uncertainty right now but after receiving this news last week, it provides me with a little semblance of certainty.
Am I being selfish? Insensitive? Ignorant? I guess it can be viewed that way considering what is going on around us but aren’t we all looking for some sense of “normalcy?” Okay, getting excited because a 100-mile race above 10k feet in the CO Rockies was not canceled can sound a bit messed up.  I get that, but it provides me, and I have a feeling a few others, with a small sliver of normalcy. Over the last couple of months, with races being canceled and not knowing how Silverheels was going to turn out, we had to train and have the mindset that the race was going to happen.  So, we went along with preparing as planned, albeit making up a few cool little “alternative race options” (stay tuned for another one starting in a few days 😊).  But there was often the “what if” question.  “What if the race doesn’t happen? What are we training for? We just had to keep showring up each day and not gonna lie, it was tough sometimes to get jazzed up about it.  I will say however, the circumstances have provided me to alter how I go about training, more mentally than physical, but physically as well. There are no more treadmill days, everything is outside now since the gym is closed.  We have tried (or I’ve tried 😊) to focus more on Time on Feet, rather than miles. There have been more trail miles, more climbing, heat training, pool work; just changing things up a bit to compensate for the uncertainty. There have been some creative things we have done and new ideas we have flirted with.  The plan is to keep that process going and see if we can have even more fun over the next two months until race day.  We are certainly excited to get out of Phoenix in July and up to the cooler temps. We will hopefully have the Shane crew in Fairplay to help on race support as well as maybe a few other faces to help me in this challenge.
When this whole Covid thing started to go down many were talking about how we will be living in a new normal; not just these last 2 months, but for the foreseeable future.  At that point, my mind was focused on keeping my family healthy, staying healthy myself, and trying to gain as much knowledge as I could to ensure those things happen.  Now, like many of you, I do not know what is true, what to believe, who to listen to, and what day it is sometimes 😊.  Like most, I am tired, frustrated, and I have heard this so many times the last two weeks, “I am done with it!”  I get that and feel ya brother!  That said however, I do not believe we can be letting our guard down too much.  We need to continue to be aware and it is hard to not be with all the blah blah blah that is all over the place but I mean be smart; don’t go to the grocery story and start licking all the produce like a dumbass.  Common sense stuff you know?  I am for starting to open things up and starting to interact with each other; not in huge crowds, again, follow the them, common sense here!!!!  We are headed up to Fairplay in two months, barring any massive changes, a town of about 600+ folks and last I checked, today, there are 35 people signed up for the race.  Double that number for race staff, volunteers, crew, etc. and the event itself is about 70 people, most we will not even come into contact over the course of 100 miles. I believe we will still be able to incorporate social distancing measures. But when it comes down to it, I really have no idea what the hell is the best way to go about this whole thing!!! I do know this; we are grateful to be healthy; most important.  I understand there is a lot of lose going on and I have written about it and shared my thoughts on it; my heart breaks for the tragedies that are happening throughout the world.  And yes, this little race in mid-July in a small CO mountain, is insignificant in so many ways to only about 100 or so folks.
However, in a time that is unknown and uncertain, we do have this small speck of normalcy to look forward to.  I am sure all of us, each day, look for and find a small piece of “normal.” I am sure we are creating our own new normal.  For me, it is nice to have one from a few months ago to look forward to.

5 things
Tagged by @rinaskitty for this one!
5 things you can find on my blog:
Fandom reblogs
General nerding out over [Digimon | Pokemon | Yuri on Ice | other things that strike my fancy]
Farm animals (mainly goats, sheep, and chickens)
Vintage illustration & photography
Very occasional original content (life updates, fanart, fanfic, and sh*tposts involving Takeru)
5 things you can find in my room:
My old laptop, affectionately named “The Black Baron”
A “bookshelf of shame” where my comics, manga, doujinshi, and anime figures live (whose contents have now spread to the desk and non-shameful bookshelf... oh dear!)
A box containing most of the sketches and handwritten fanfic drafts I’ve produced since college (oiy)
This picture, signed and framed!
Yarn. Just... lots of yarn.
5 things I always wanted to do:
Have enough time and energy to pursue any and all artistic endeavors of my choosing: write/draw a doujinshi, write/draw a longer comic series, pursue traditional media, design a video game, and actually check things off the ever-growing list of random fanart and fanfic ideas that are swirling around in my head. Alas, time, energy (and discipline ergh) are in short supply in the evenings after work :P
Build robots and get better at programming (what was I just saying about time and discipline??)
Be in another musical. I was in the chorus for a high school production of 42nd Street and it was SO MUCH FUN. The short list of things I would bend over backwards to dance in are Singin’ In the Rain, The Producers, Music Man, Forum, and Book of Mormon, but really, anything that has at least one epic dance number and fun choreography!
Be a really cool aunt or grandma. I don’t think I want to be a parent, but maybe I could handle one of the other two?
Buy a house in the Rocky Mountains and name it “Summer Memory.”
5 things that make me happy:
The one week in May when the lilacs bloom.
Narratives that are so perfectly executed they make you cry.
Photography (but not being photographed, hahahaha)
Happy dogs
Delicious food
5 things on my to do list:
My biggest to-do list right now is for this upcoming Japan trip. Even though everything is mostly taken care of at this point, there are a few outstanding items:
Sort and print Odaiba references (you’d better believe it!)
Send the final itinerary to loved ones
Print boarding passes
Pack
Re-pack, but with smaller amounts of unnecessary stuff XD
5 things you might not know about me:
I mean, I’m a pretty quiet/private person. I don’t end up sharing a lot of information about myself either IRL or over the Interwebs, which is why this entire post could probably be titled “things you might not know about me.” XD
I have an artblog and a FFN account (shameless plug!)
I’m a Ravenclaw.
I’m chaotic good.
I chose my standard Togemon icon long, long after I chose my screename... but now I’m quite happy to identify with the ol’ gal. Being a big punchy cactus is great. TOGEEEH!
Tagging: @opallene, @buri-art, @rockthistowninsideout, @dejidejimonmon, @ahiddenpath, @darthcontusion, @aiko-isari, and anyone else who wants to!

Game Dev Update | 9.7.17
Tumblr media
It’s not just a Seer’s Staff. It’s a greeeedy Seer’s Staff. And it’s looking at your stuff, so better hide the valuables.
Animated gear is just one of many upgrades we got working last month on Exiles, so we’re back with another host of new developments and updates.
Last Update, we saw the Forge come online, showed a first-look at the evolution of combat mechanics, UI design, animations and the new avatar system. This time around, we’re going to dive into Ranked play, our progress on VFX, tiering Exiles loot, Difficulties, Faction relationships, and a very angry Elk.
As always, let’s dig into it together in live Discord chat or on the forums!
Tumblr media
RANK
Our last build of Exiles featured some long-awaited systems coming online. I’ve written about the Forge at length, but no less exciting for me is the PVP Rank system now in operation.
It’s a single-point Rank system where players go from Rank 25 down to 1 and then enter the Legendary ladder for supremacy. As you can see from the badges here, there are a number of steps (gems) to progress through each badge, each with commensurate rewards at the end of each Season.
Tumblr media
I’ll share the exact rule system as we finalize it, but we’re experimenting with streaks and progressions. Right now, it’s one win/loss, one point plus or minus, coupled with a couple of streak options. Naturally, I spent the first several hours of the build’s existence power-ranking to 1 to make sure that our resident Bard (SingmeAsong) didn’t attain that rank with his cheater-admin-OP characters.
/scowls at the Bard.
VFX
Across Player Abilities, NPCs and Battle Environments, visual effects are starting to make their way into the game’s innards.
We started with effects for Player Abilities, and will soon share these in the context of battle, but here’s 1st looks at
Gravity Prison - Alters the gravity around the target dealing damage and slowing them at an increasing amount for several rounds.
Tumblr media
Destruction’s Wake - Deals heavy damage, reduces the target's Martial Resistance and increases Strength of the caster
Tumblr media
And my current favorite, Unstable Magicks (that is spelled CORRECTLY) -Consume all buffs to self to cast a chaotic spell that increases in damage by 10% for each buff consumed.
Tumblr media
We’re working on applying effects to Legendary items as well. You’ve seen this sword before, but now it’s so much frostier...
Tumblr media
Have a look at these and more Exiles effects in this video posted by our own Yoeri Luos Vleer, who’s been cranking them out with crazy gusto.
DIFFICULTIES
The map continues to evolve, as does the game’s PVE systems. For challenge and replayability, we’re working on a system of difficulties for Quests to provide different levels of combat. Here, you’ll see the South end of the Wildewoods Zone, with Port Endmore there above the Difficulties menu. The activities to do on the map here will be filtered by difficulty as well as Events, so you can quickly see what is available to your character and choose (some Events will be rooted geographically, some not).
And yes, with greater risk comes greater reward-- we’re starting to input the Quest chains and their tasty treasures now...
Tumblr media
A NEW LOOK FOR LOOT TIERS
We’ve shown the visual tiering system all along the way, and just as the gameplay and UI have evolved, so too has the way we’re approaching tiers. After experiments with changing model geometry and textures, then just textures, then both again, we’ve hit on what we think is the right solution.
The intent is to give the lower-level player interesting gear while offering a significant visual bump up as the same equipment levels-up (via upgrade in the Forge) or is earned in battle once the player is at the appropriate level.
Here’s the system for a basic Warrior helm:
Tumblr media
The Tower Shield:
Tumblr media
And the Barricade Shield:
Tumblr media
This results in a tough, banged-up, less-refined look at Tier 1 and a more elegant power-lookat Tier 3 (and allows for further creativity to the color-tells of Rare and Epic gear).
We’ve also been busy “component-izing” weapons to allow us to create as much variety as possible without going back to square one. A system of weapon-LEGOs, if you will. Using this, we’re starting to see the opportunity for --in the example here-- 9 different weapons, including axe, mace, spear and staff variations from one-ish set of parts.
Tumblr media
BOSS ENEMIES GET TURNED INTO LOOT
You might feel sorry for ol’ Grimhowl until you learn what he’s been up to. And you will, but not for a ways into your levelling Quest line. Suffice it to say, he’s not a nice wolf and this fate is perhaps too good for him.
He does make a nice set of Shoulders though.
Tumblr media
PUT IT ALL TOGETHER
There will be a near-limitless number of looks you can achieve with your character’s gear, but here’s one based on the helm we showed last Update, the Narrator’s chest piece, Grimhowl’s Pelt and the weapon/shield combo from this post.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Note: comments about his ears clipping through the helmet will merit a SMITATION. We fixed it.
NEW BATTLE SYSTEM COMING ONLINE
Last Dev Update, we covered the changes to the combat system that we’ve been working on and this month, those changes are going into the build of the game. By month’s end, we should be testing those changes in earnest and we’ll report on the results right here.
Tumblr media
Notice the current Stance-- the eye next to your avatar and health bar-- as well as the Stance you will move into should you choose each Ability.
(Go here for an explanation of Stances).
Tumblr media
Here, you will cycle through your available Ability Loadout.
FACTIONS INFOGRAPHICS
We’re starting to experiment with how to display the goings-on within Embermark for your lore pleasure. Factions within the continent will be allies, indifferents and mortal enemies of each other, and your actions within the game will affect them in a host of different ways.
And for every action, there is a reaction, right? We’re working on how completing certain Quests or defeating certain foes will affect your place in the world as well as what might become available (or locked) to you. In addition, the plan is for a changing landscape-- so one Season (remember a Season in Exiles is currently a month of real-time) might see the Siege Dwarves and the Manifested at each other’s throats. Another, they might enjoy an uneasy alliance. How we’ll ultimately roll this out is up to what we learn in testing and beyond-- we’re just digging in.
Thus, don’t try to fully understand this infographic-- it’s a work-in-progress snapshot on Factions and how many allies/enemies they each have. Note that House Ronin... just doesn’t care. And The Purge wants to see everyone burn.
Tumblr media
(For a higher res version, click here)
THE LENARI ELK
The Zone of Lenari is a landform sandwiched between the rocky ruins of Siege and the frigid forests of Eremis. Many species of forest-dwelling animal, including this massive Elk, call the Zone home.
Tumblr media
After the Collapse, “embers” issued forth from the Breaches that appeared across the continent. Those embers fell on flora, fauna, inorganics, everything. In some cases, nothing happened. In others, the embers brought pain or death. And in other cases still-- the embers created fantastic alterations to whatever they fell upon. Marks. These Marks created visual mutations, sometimes with power increase or change.
The elk of Lenari are a species whose biology was changed-- they’re faster, smarter and imbued with a power you will have to experience in the game.
Tumblr media
The markings along their coats and the coloration of the antlers will be significant to understanding how to take one of these down (and whether you even should).
Tumblr media
NOW REMEMBER
We’ll keep sharing details as we soon head into testing (remember to PM TheWizard on the Exiles forums with your device type if you want in on closed testing & beta later), and you can count on early impressions from the testers throughout our various channels.
If you haven’t already, follow along with Exiles development on Twitter, Instagram and Facebook. And if you haven’t, I’ll find you. And SMITE you.
THERE’S CHAT CHATTER EVERYDAY AS WE READY TO BATTLE
If you want to hear about the game, ask questions or connect with others who are helping the development team think about features, design and narrative, hop into the Discord Channel for live chat and say hi– it’s a friendly lot with plenty of daily shenanigans (there’s even– still– a Shenaniganizer).
BONUS: IT JUST WOULDN’T BE THE SAME WITHOUT... TATTERS
You can’t very well start the game adorned in glittering armor and glorious whatnot. Thus, I present to you a bit of Common gear that does--um-- very little for you. Gotta love them... Tatters!

Halo Infinite Graphics Explained by 343 After a Week of Craig Memes
https://ift.tt/eA8V8J
In July, fans finally got a look at the gameplay of Halo Infinite, the next major chapter in the beloved first-person shooter franchise. Touted as a showcase for the power of the Xbox Series X, the game has been positioned as the next-gen console’s flagship title. Unfortunately, while the long-awaited gameplay demo should have been a victory lap for Xbox and developer 343 Industries, it’s actually become a hotly debated topic among Halo and Xbox fans.
The major point of contention on social media, forums, and across game outlets? Halo Infinite‘s art style and graphics, which some fans have criticized as a “step back for the series” and not what they expected from a next-gen game. Some on social media have even created a meme inspired by one of the Brutes in the demo who has (unfortunately for him) become the poster child for Halo Infinite‘s “current-gen” graphics. Meet Craig the Brute:
I'm Craig pic.twitter.com/QIEqW0jtKx
— Craig (@ImCraigTheBrute) July 24, 2020
Halo Infinite Craig may be my favorite meme of 2020. Not sure Microsoft likes it tho… pic.twitter.com/LobCEFveLz
— Michael (@LegacyKillaHD) July 26, 2020
Eurogamer’s tech-centric vertical Digital Foundry has also chimed in, dissecting the demo’s use of dynamic lighting and shadow effects to explain why the footage might have looked a bit “flat.”
Since the demo dropped online, 343 has been very open about its approach to the game’s visuals. In a closed-door Q&A after the release of the demo, 343 creative director Chris Lee said that the studio had chosen the brightly colored, Halo: Combat Evolved-like art style on purpose, saying it “harkens back to some of those iconic looks that we’ve had in Halo.”
The art style isn’t the only way in which Halo Infinite is recalling the past. In the nine-minute demo, we watch as Master Chief shoots and melees his way through ranks of Covenant enemies with assault rifles, shotguns, plasma weapons, and the franchise’s iconic, high-precision pistol. We watch as he maneuvers a Warthog across the rocky landscape of a Halo ring, mowing down Grunts and Jackals on his way to take down one of three land-to-air cannons. The demo even mirrors an early mission in Halo: Combat Evolved where Master Chief has to save three groups of stranded space marines after they crash land on the first Halo ring. It’s more than clear that 343 is looking back to chart the future of the series.
Now, in a new blog post on Halo Waypoint, 343 community manager John Junyszek has further addressed Halo Infinite‘s art style and what the studio is doing to improve the game’s graphical fidelity and presentation.
“Based on our learnings from Halo 4, Halo 5, and Halo Wars 2 – along with strong community feedback – we decided to shift back towards the legacy aesthetics that defined the original trilogy,” Junyszek explained. “With Halo Infinite, we’re returning to a more ‘classic’ art style which was a key message going back to the very first reveal that garnered enthusiastic and positive responses. This translates to a more vibrant palette, ‘cleaner’ models, and objects with less ‘noise,’ though it doesn’t mean less detail. While we appreciate this may not be everyone’s personal preference, we stand by this decision and are happy to see it resonating with so many fans around the world.”
Junyszek noted that, after the debut of the gameplay footage, 343 had heard “far more positive than negative” feedback, but he also admitted that there was still work to be done when it comes to the game’s graphical fidelity.
“Negative feedback in this area includes comments around characters and objects appearing flat, simplistic and plastic-like, lighting feeling dull and flat, and object pop-in. We’ve read your comments, we’ve seen the homemade examples of retouched content, and yes we’ve heard the Digital Foundry assessments. In many ways we are in agreement here – we do have work to do to address some of these areas and raise the level of fidelity and overall presentation for the final game.”
Junyszek echoed what Xbox Marketing general manager Aaron Greenberg told Inside Gaming in the hours after the gameplay demo was released, stressing that the game was still a work in progress. While Greenberg suggested that it was difficult to present the game at its graphical best over a live stream anyway, Junyszek explained that “the build used to run the campaign demo was work-in-progress from several weeks ago with a variety of graphical elements and game systems still being finished and polished.”
The 343 staffer reiterated the team’s commitment to the Halo community and making Halo Infinite the best experience is can be.
“While some of the feedback was expected and speaks to areas already in progress, other aspects of the feedback have brought new opportunities and considerations to light that the team is taking very seriously and working to assess. We don’t have firm answers or outcomes to share yet but the team is working as quickly as possible on plans to address some of the feedback around detail, clarity, and overall fidelity. The team is committed and focused on making sure we have a beautiful world for players to explore when we launch.”
Junyszek also revealed that, while the team is shooting for 4K 60 fps on the Xbox Series X, PC gamers will have more freedom to push the graphical fidelity of the game.
“As PC players expect, there will be plenty of settings that you can tweak to create the experience you want and we’ll have even more details on that in the coming months.”
While it does sound like Halo Infinite‘s art style is here to stay, it’s good to know that 343 is working hard to improve on other aspects of the game as the release date gets closer. Hopefully, we’ll get to see another look at the game when things are a bit more polished.
The 343 community manager concluded the blog spot on a lighter note, giving fans an update on Craig, who seems to not only be coping well with being meleed in the face by Master Chief but also all the attention he’s gotten since: “We’ve all laughed very hard at the nonstop stream of Craig memes the community is cranking out. Craig is thick-skinned and seems to be taking it in stride though all of this fame and attention seems to be going to his head.”
Halo Infinite is coming to Xbox Series X, Xbox One, and PC.
