my favorite thing about loyalty missions in mass effect 2, aside from how absurd of a concept they are already, is that none of them are made equally

like on the one hand you have missions like mordin’s, which require you to make the extremely difficult decision of whether or not to keep the research results that could potentially cure the genophage, which will have MASSIVE implications for the inevitable clash between the krogan and turians/salarians in the near future

and on the other hand you’ve got people like jacob who show up and go “my dad sucks” and then you find his dad go “wow your dad SUCKS lol put this man UNDER the jail” and now jacob will survive the swarm of alien bees 20 hours from now

You know who deserved to be a villain??

Lovely. Lovely deserved to be a villain. And the fact that they weren't should be appreciated by everyone.

Why?

Because Lovely could've very easily turned into Quinn. Like so easily that it's a little scary.

Seriously, think about it. Lovely had a lot of issues after Adam and the inversion and all of it was because of Vincent. If at any point they had decided that Vincent wasn't shit and they deserved better than whatever insanity this man would bring, we would've gotten a second Quinn.

Someone bitter and angry at how loving one person fucked up their entire life. Someone hellbent on making sure he could never hurt anyone else the way he hurt them. Someone who kept others out of Vincent's hurricane by making sure they never stepped in it at all. Through manipulation or murder, that's up to you.

"But that doesn't sound like Lovely! They're too sweet for that! They'd never turn out that way even if they did turn evil." And? Quinn's entire reasoning for going after Darlin was because they betrayed him. I'm not saying he wasn't a garbage person but I am saying characters have done worse for less.

Lovely deserved to be hurt. To be angry. To leave in a violent storm and pay back the world for what it did to them in a shower of blood and broken promises. And I have no doubt they would've.

But they didn't. Because Lovely is trusting, forgiving, a little naive for the situation they're in, and completely in love.

If Lovely was a little more attentive to their circumstances or a little less in love with Vincent, they'd see that this relationship has brought just as much trauma as pleasure and that going forward with it will destroy them.

Then see above.

Lovely deserved to be a villain. Hell, I'm willing to believe they should've been. But they weren't. And nobody seems to see it.

(Now don't let the entire post of me dunking on him fool you, I love Vincent, he's the first Redacted character I listened to. But like...facts are facts)

*Enidan was currently busy bandaging her arm as it stood there in the corner, in a very bad mood. Its tail kept flickering as she kept quietly mumbling to herself in a quite irritated and frustrated manner, pretty pissed off.*

*When the man entered the elevator though, it stopped what she was doing for a moment, looking up at him with a raised eyebrow as she was surprised. It didn't expect to see someone new coming from the Subway Station floor...however, it didn't quite please her to see the new face here, especially when she's in this state*

"...huh. I haven't seen you here before...hm..."

*It was quite clear in her tone she wasn't exactly happy to be with someone else in the elevator...it stared at him for a moment, inspecting his appearance while also keeping an eye for any sudden movements. It gave him a pretty stern yet curious look, waiting for some sort of response from him while she observed the expressions on his face.*

Do you think Darlin ever misses Quinn?

Do you think they hate themself for it?

Because regardless of all the shit he put them through, Darlin still loved him at one point.

There was a time where Quinn was their safe space. Their home. Their comfort.

There was a time when being with the pack was more pain than it was worth so being with Quinn's band of misfits was a release.

There was a time when Darlin believed Quinn loved them too. And hey, maybe he did. We'll never know.

There were good times. There were happy points. We know Darlin has long since ripped off the rose colored glasses but do you think they ever think back on those times and wonder if any of it was real?

Do you think they hate themself more every time they remember it? They know the kind of person Quinn really is, they're in a better situation that they never would've dreamed of before, so why do they keep remembering? The disgust and guilt is so strong they want to puke.

They know they shouldn't beat themself up over remembering, they know Quinn tricked them, they know it wasn't their fault.

But scars etch themselves on the heart. The heart that loved him. The heart that doesn't understand what it did wrong to make him hurt them. The heart that wonders if it was their fault. That all of it was their fault.

"I hate him. I hate him. But I loved him too."

It's one of those trauma topics that Darlin shoves down as far as they can with the rest of the complicated feelings they have about the Quinn situation so they don't have to think about it.

They seem to be mumbling something over and over again, the sound of thunder covers what they're saying.

He moves closer to their comm, their voice becomes more clear}
