Finished Belladonna!
4.5 ⭐️
This was so much fun. I honestly did not expect to like it nearly as much as I did. It was like being a silent witness to an ornate game of gothic “who dun it” clue with Death as my supportive sidekick.
I loved the chilling atmosphere, the characters and the entire concept really. It is much more of a mystery novel than anything else.
Very little *actual* romance (which is why it’s being docked a few points for me amongst some other things). I would have liked to see a little more build up and pining between the MCs.
Definitely going to be reading the sequel.

Shadows of the Heart: A Romantic Suspense Novel
Tumblr media
Emma sat at her desk, her fingers gliding over the keyboard as she reviewed the latest manuscript. The bustling sounds of New York City filtered through her office window, a constant reminder of the fast-paced world outside. Despite her successful career, Emma couldn't shake the feeling of emptiness that had settled in her heart.
One afternoon, as she sorted through her mail, a peculiar envelope caught her eye. Unlike the usual correspondence, this one was crafted from fine parchment, sealed with a wax emblem. Intrigued, she carefully opened it to reveal a single page of handwritten prose, filled with evocative descriptions and a sense of deep longing.
Dear Emma, the letter began, I have watched your career from afar and believe you are the only one who can bring my story to life. Enclosed is a fragment of my unfinished novel. If you wish to discover more, meet me at the old oak tree in Pineville this Saturday at noon.
Emma's heart raced with curiosity. Pineville was a quaint town she had visited in her childhood, full of charm and mystery. She felt a spark of excitement she hadn't felt in years. Could this be the romantic journey she had been longing for?
Determined to find out, Emma decided to follow the trail of the mysterious author. Little did she know, this journey would lead her to uncover secrets far beyond her imagination, intertwining her fate with a love story filled with intrigue and danger......

Enchanting as always: Carmilla~!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Human disguised Carmilla Carmine with her hair up and down in the style of my #HHStargazersAU! She doesn't play a major role or anything, nor will I focus much on the other Overlords. I'll mostly keep it between Chaggie & Radioapple, but @softholly made me curious about what Camilla would look like if I were to draw her in my story. I got the curly haired idea from one of her daughters. As for WHY she would be disguised as a human if we were to see her in my AU... Surely you didn't think Vaggie & Alastor are the ONLY angelic/demonic entities roaming the Earth now, did you? =) Question is, why are any of these powerful beings on the mortal realm to begin with? Guess we'll later find out~! XD -Bubbly💙

"Stories you read when you're the right age never quite leave you. You may forget who wrote them or what the story was called. Sometimes you'll forget precisely what happened, but if a story touches you it will stay with you, haunting the places in your mind that you rarely ever visit."

I love how a well-written romance is so often structured as a mystery. A person starts with a certain idea about another person, and over the course of the story, they uncover more evidence that gives them a fuller picture of who the other person truly is. They learn about layers to the personality and backstory that give the other person more depth. They learn how the other person's personality meshes with theirs. Even the third-act misunderstanding fits the mystery structure--it looks like they've uncovered the final secret to the other person's identity, which is that they're not the worthy person they seemed to be, but then discover that they misinterpreted that evidence, or the other person takes steps to apologize and repair the level of trust. When the mystery is resolved, they've reached a full understanding of each other and know they've found a partner they can trust their whole future to.
