(whee finally posting the finished version of this piece! i originally designed it for a cd charm where you can rotate wolfwood like the gif but then i figured there should be a still version too where you can pretend everything is happy and nothing hurts :))

synths and mixers are so tactile its obscene like its actually obscene all thosd ports and knobs and sliders and buttons and wiressorry sprry i am ssso hard right now sorry what was i saying

#etc etc #when i dj'd at an analog radio station we used this ancient mixing console to start & stop CDs #clicky buttons for playing/stopping. volume sliders for fading.#video switchers are like this too!!!!! there's a switcher they use for instant replays that is actually pornographic im sorry but it is.#it has clicky buttons + a lever (for slow motion) + a big rotating knob (for scrubbing video) but i never got to use it :(

went skimming gif cities last night and found a few gems to clean up

#radio chatter #web graphics #flashing #flashing gif #the rotating computer was the longest to clean up cause it has the most frames #also the top right cds frames were in an odd order so i changed them to hopefully the right one #also i had to do a lot of changing the frame times to make them less painful to look at #anyways if you want one of these gifs but at a different speed let me know im happy to a faster/slower version for you

the other MMOs I've played have some pretty wild rotations but nothing has ever quite come close to the utter mayhem that was/is mag!NB in ESO

#saint.txt #bc that spec is DoT central and only some of them are on similar timers (and this is an MMO with no CDs on abilities)#keep both of your AoEs rolling constantly but also DO NOT overlap casts or we'll kill you bc that's a waste of mana.#they are both on similar but different timers and typically on your backbar.#(not overlapping casts bc it wastes resources to refresh too early goes for literally all of your abilities btw)#also you have three different buffs (all are also on differing timers) that need to also have 100% uptime. the bow one especially we'll tal #abt that in a minute. your other fill-ins (your spammables) are also all either single-target DoTs (debilitate) or summon shade and #guess what these also have timers. all of these timers are different even slightly so drift is common and it becomes more a game of #'oh god all the timer alerts are going off all at once deal with it' game than a typical MMO rotation.#that's not even talking abt the NB bow skill which is core to the class and requires you more than any other class to know and be good #at weaving bc for both the bow (which requires 5 LAs to use) and your own sustain bc of a self-buff you have to keep rolling #you HAVE to be constantly light attacking for your DPS AND your own sustain you literally do not have a choice #so you also have to manage not overcapping bow casts while also having to flip bars constantly to refresh your timers while weaving #bc in my case bow is on front bar and if you overcap bow charges bc you're on the back bar refreshing wall of elements #we will personally kill your ass. ESO combat was so fun no other MMO has come close to that flavour for me #ESO weaving literally broke my old mouse not even ff//xiv or g/w/2 axe mirage has done that

I'm just assuming and reaching af here but I'll say The Passenger is happening in the 2000s pre-smartphone/flatscreen era, just so i can give Benson and Randy the shitty cheapo electronics I grew up with in my little brain scenarios <3 (also headcanon that Benson goes dumpster diving for all the electronics and other misc. items he has. stereo with CD/cassette deck/radio function, headphones, shitty little box TV with unsightly cracks in the frame but otherwise fine, VHS/DVD player, etc. and through trial and error finding the stuff that still works, selling off things he doesn't need as a way to make some extra cash on the side. and keeping the things he wants. because that was my experience with most of my electronics growing up <3)

#also thinking how sometimes there'd be cds littered around the dumpster and maybe benson could've picked out some stuff there too <3 #some of my first music cds came from the dumpster <3 there were scratches and some songs skipped a bit #but i had those particular cds on rotation on long car rides for stimming and regulation for YEARS 🙏#ITS SO FUN TO PUT MY EXPERIENCES GROWING UP KINDA POOR WITH CHEAPSKATE PARENTS IN THE 2000S ON RANDY AND BENSON <3

Moriarty's Gray Collar dialogue all seems to have in-battle subtitle playback now (well, except the ones nobody has subtitles on), when they didn't as of last month. I think Moriarty may not have any missing subtitles left at this point?

I had been outright unable to locate internal subtitle files for "Lime.", "Aperitif." and "On the rocks." when I dug through them last time. I also don't believe I ever saw or missed "Anytime you wish." and "Care to get intoxicated?" so those are new to me and were missing from my original compilation.

#my cd collection #music #wanted to keep it strictly albums not soundtracks and stuff but had to make a few exceptions because they were such a moment in my life #anyway this is pretty self-indulgent but it’s nice seeing them altogether and it was an interesting trip down memory lane #I don’t think I’ve totally accurately ordered some of these #there were a few years where a lot seemed to happen quickly #and of course many of these I returned to over and over again so there were different periods where they feel prominent looking back #mostly I went with the earliest time I remember it entering the rotation #and of course there were some individual songs that were important and that’s not captured here but that’s ok #I think this tells a story

#rain plays ffxiv #I’m finally back on my omni90 grind #now I just have monk and samurai which should be a breeze #I’m actually kinda good at ninja. def not high-end-raid good but high on the emnity list in standard content #I just don’t like it.#unlike black mage which I’m terrible at AND hate #thankfully with mnk sam and nin the baseline dmg for those jobs is so damn high that even if you aren’t playing super optimal #and you maybe fuck up your rotation here and there #it won’t matter all that much. you’ll still be doing numbers.#with ninja I like putting the rabbit on my head between pulls or after the duty is complete lol #also shoutout to the random person in praetorium who gave me pointers when I was first starting out <3 #ie. doton is useless in single pulls. and hide resets your mudra cds.#I’ve also been trying to get triple triad cards. it sucks.#if you decide you want to go for all cards. god help you. and god fucking help me.#I spent at least two hours playing against this one fucker in azys la #because he wouldn’t give me the goddamn tiamat card #and it was chaos rules so the rules changed each round but I was so tired I kept forgetting #it was just a bad time all around #anyway rant in tags over #……..for now
