also another reason why the shadow and bone series is a disaster zone: the timeline is impossibly scrunched. like yes, a civil war/coup/etc does not have to be a multi-year conflict but also-- this is a country the size of like, at minimum 1/3 of a whole continent. given that it's based on russia if we assume they're roughly the same size.... like..... dude.... the actual real life russian revolution went from 1917 to 1922.... these things take time. not even getting into how we're stretching the suspension of disbelief already having all these fucking 17yos running around with the skillset and reputations of an early-late twenty something (i'm looking at you especially with this one kaz my love) but just....... do you know how long logistics can take? and across somewhere like 1800s russia? ESPECIALLY wartorn 1800s russia.

also the idea that alina would ever be actually in charge is fucking hilarious. she had like.... 6 weeks of grisha training and bc she was a fucking CaRtOgRaPhEr and not actually like..... a fUcKiNg SoLdIeR -- she has no general knowledge of military strat, combat, anything. I don't think she even learned how to use a rifle man, MAYBE a pistol but i doubt it. she'd absolutely be stuck in position similar to katniss, being carted around for propaganda with no real autonomy she didn't fight for. which she does not seem inclined to do in the books.

Since i saw shadow and bone and subsequently read the books i thought “man alina should’ve been a foot soldier like all the other peasant kids” and i stand by that to this day.

The grisha trilogy would be infinitely better if alina had had a gun and had like 3 of her friends die in a fire fight before we even started the series.

In Grishaverse, the best and most amazing character development clearly visible is Leigh Bardugo herself. None of her works is bad, but for me, The Ruin and Rising was far better than The Shadow and Bone. I don't even need to talk about Six of Crows, and the fact that somehow Crooked Kingdom is much more loved.

Outside Grishaverse Ninth House is a masterpiece. It's literally magical.

She improves, and that makes her THE BEST.

Rewatching OP movies after finishing Film Red and becoming re-obsessed with how many of them actually have Usopp being the catalyst that helps Luffy defeat the Big Bad.

He's the one that shoots lightning into the clouds in Strong World that helps Luffy beat Shiki with his Giganto Thor Axe, and he's also the one who shot a seed into the mecha machine of Douglas Bullet that ended up shattering once the vines started growing and gave Luffy the opening to land his hit in Stampede.

Speaking of Film Red, it was thanks to his Observation Haki that allowed him to connect with the opposite side with his dad and orchestrate the connected attacks on the legs of Tot Musica.

I get a thrill out of it every time. Like yes, for all the talk about Sanji and Zoro being Luffy's wings, I refuse to forget the role Usopp often plays in supporting Luffy too which barely anyone appreciates in the fandom...he may not be the same level of strong, but by god will he assist the hell out of Luffy from anywhere he needs to be.
