My building skills suck. My mom saw, and brought me the two shelves from her storage shed. I did give up my office shelf, but these are quite pretty. It also gave me the space to show off my @faecrate plushies, which have been hiding in a basket for a long time. I do have to keep them on the higher shelf, our puppy loves soft toys, but I'm so in love with this shelf. ★ Have you read the Daevabad Trilogy? If you haven’t, is it on your TBR? I finally read it last year, after letting it sit on my TBR for ages, and it was a rare five star series for me. I assertively believe it’s one of the best epic fantasies of our time—there’s so many layers and nuance (and great romance), and @sachakrabooks’ attention to detail and clear knowledge of that historical period and region—not to mention world building of Daevabad and the political climate—left me in awe. Last night I also finished The City of Brass inspired @rosiethorns88 papercraft that @illumicrate included in their April box! I adore Nahri and this was a such a neat item to receive in the box, I hope we get more! 🥹 She’s now at home on my shelves with the rest of the family. The setting, characters, imagery, world-building, and magic are all so well done. S. A. Chakraborty once again, does a fantastic job in pulling the reader in and refusing the let go until the final battle. The Daevabad series is not a light read that will take a day, unless you’re willing to give the book the undivided attention it deserves. This quarantine gave me the time and when I returned to the book, I couldn’t stop reading. I love the political background to the story; the author had the chance to make it all about romance, but it is not. The love triangle is rarely touched upon. This story is about oppression, freedom, differences, magic and the inner-workings of a political battle. ⁣ ⁣ The characters have arcs that you can follow from the beginning to the first book to the end of the second and that development is something I crave in series. Prince Ali went from being a mildly annoying character to a character I would quite literally jump into the book to save. Nahri continues to be a brilliant female main character, defying years of tradition to do right, even when doubting herself and being left alone. Dara, my heart aches for Dara. His beliefs are not excusable, the prejudice is not something to gloss over and it isn’t. Dara makes mistakes, repeatedly, but his shackled existence adds to changes in his personality that has developed throughout the journey. This sounds all serious, but the witty inserts and funny remarks by characters often made me laugh despite it all! ⁣Brief spoiler: the closet scene with Qahtani siblings will always be my favourite ⁣ 𝗦𝗛𝗜𝗣𝗦: Slowburn and forbidden love: Ali and Nahri. ⁣ ⁣ 𝗥𝗘𝗖𝗢𝗠𝗠𝗘𝗡𝗗𝗘𝗗 𝗙𝗢𝗥: readers looking for a brilliant high fantasy journey. https://www.instagram.com/p/B_M6_l2gx_b/?igshid=19roro6mgsj48
