More adventures in stainless steel and prong settings, this time featuring a piece of Seaham multi seaglass - a two tone (or three or four) nugget with lovely denim blue hues that I've managed to give a nice tight claw setting to. The focal features upcycled tin with a prong set salvaged little abalone shell art flatlay with amazing iridescence of a mountain over the sea, with sun, bird and rainbow. The detail on this is incredible and I was so lucky to find it! The back of the focal uses another tin I found with a silhouette of a boat which I felt continued the narrative of the piece. There's also a carved elephant in mother of pearl at the side connection, a range of semi-precious raw stones that I have rustically wire wrapped (check out the super labradorite flash). Also salvaged vintage/antique bead and daisy chain detail. I pulled this guy out of a dumpster near RISD two years after I’d graduated and a week or two before the end of my time living in a Rhode Island. He was chalky orange then, unglazed, fired red clay. He has lived in my Connecticut backyard ever since, fourteen years sitting on a big rock outside my vegetable garden, becoming a weathered, crumbling companion to squirrels and birds and toads and the seasons, and an occasional reminder to me of a period of my life that was tough but formative. I've been doing a fair amount of research this morning into Persian miniature painting which dates back as far as the 13th Century. Although more modern (maybe 19th Century - 1950's - it's difficult to date), these beautiful hand painted Persian Qajar miniatures on mother of pearl needed a fair bit of restoration. Paintings in this style often depict Persian culture, poetry and folk stories or traditional tribal/clan life or notable individuals such as dervishes, royalty or poets. Originally from a broken bracelet, they are quite citrine toned (most likely from old varnish), so the chips and scratches really stood out. I've used alcohol inks and tiny amount of acrylic to fill in the gaps so you can't tell. Each picture is less than 2.5 cm tall and would have been painted with cat hair or pigeon feathers. They are wire wrapped to brass hoops and decorated with salvaged vintage beads and Czech glass beads.
