You know sometimes (read: every time) when I make a mistake that ends up hurting someone else I'll be sitting there for hours worrying if they hate me for it and all my apologies and explanations were in vain and I get so scared I'm on the verge of vomiting and they'll randomly hit me up just casually saying "hey wanna hang out?" and it'll feel like an angel came down from heaven to relieve me of my sins

Week 6 in my journal. Super childish, but I can’t unsee the amount of times I accidentally wrote a certain word over and over again in this weekly spread. (I count 20 lol)

Hello everyone! It's week 4, and our second 'in-between' week, of our re-run through the Class Ongoing story so far! If you haven't checked it out already, you can find our last episode re-release from last week here.
Today we're resharing our third side-story, Leaving Bannerman Road, written by @intuitive-revelations, with cover art by @liria10.
After a surprise appearance from Sky Smith in Episode One: Fallen Soul, we go back to Bannerman Road, five years after the events of the Sarah Jane Adventures: Series 5, to find out what she's doing here in Coal Hill. Available here.
We also have the second installment of our new tie-in, The Lost Diary Entries of a Rhodian Prince, written as collab between @intuitive-revelations (who also illustrated), @avariciousambitions (who wrote this entry), and @bazwillendinflames. This time, Charlie writes about the events of Call of the Void, and their impact on Matteusz and himself.
As a reminder, The Lost Diary Entries of a Rhodian Prince is meant to double as a spoiler-filled recap of each episode from Charlie's perspective, so do not read if you're in the middle of reading that story, or planning to do so.
Please also be aware that Call of the Void and this entry directly discussing those events each contain mentions/depictions of attempted suicide. Please proceed with caution if these themes are at all damaging or distressing.
A text version is available here, at the same link as previously, PDF now updated to include Part 2.

I was going through my old diary and found some entries I write after I finished acosf and honestly. 21 years old me was onto something.
"the only way Sarah can redeem Rhys (MY BELOVED ASSHOLE. MY TALL DARK HANDSOME VILLAIN FORCED BY THE NARRATIVE TO BE SEEN AS A GOOD GUY) is if by the end of acotar series, on the last book, she just shown Rhys broke down on the floor completely sick beyond belief when he realized that he's turning into his father. And have been for awhile. And later we found out that it's just the curse of The High Lord of Night. That any night HL that keep the position beyond a certain century would slowly got cursed to fear power. The more powerful they are, the stronger the fear is. That's why they crave to control powers. To never live in peace ever again because they saw everything as a threat to their court, getting more and more extreme in their attempt to control other's power by the years. Going insane slowly but surely. And the stronger the HL is, the worse the curse is. Because power always comes with a price. And Rhys is getting his due, he's becoming his father."
LOOK AT THAT. I FIX HIM!!!!! Seriously tho, I was so disillusioned by Rhys' character after ACOSF. That was one of the worst heartbreak/betrayals I've ever felt from a book.

Book recs: many worlds, portal fantasy edition
A typical portal fantasy follows a human from our world who steps through a portal into a magical land (think of narnia). But there are many fun variations of this trope! Sometimes it's the magical people who come to our world; sometimes we get to follow people who have returned from their adventures and are seeking for new meaning; sometimes our world isn't involved at all. As might be assumed, most portal fantasies are fantasy stories, but some lean more toward magical realism, others toward sci-fi. It's a fun spectrum!
I'm separating portal fantasies from alternate timelines/parallel worlds type stories (which will get their own rec post soon-ish). I also generally do not include stories where the character travels to fairyland/land of the dead/etc as those feel like a genre of their own to me, but the lines between them sometimes blur and this is, obviously, a subjective list.
(Titles marked with * are my personal favorites)
Other book rec posts:
Really cool fantasy worldbuilding, really cool sci-fi worldbuilding, dark sapphic romances, mermaid books, vampire books
Tumblr media
For more detailed info on the books, continue under the cut.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The Magicians (Magicians trilogy) by Lev Grossman*
You may not have heard of this book, but you have probably heard of the scyfy series of the same name that crashed and burned a few years ago. This is the book it’s based on (pros: it doesn’t end in the same way; cons: it doesn’t feature the juggernaut ship of the show in any major way). For the uninitiated: features what is essentially a (secret) magic university for tormented geniuses. When he finds magic isn't enough to grant him happiness, main character Quentin goes digging into the truth surrounding his favorite childhood books searching for meaning, and finds out that the magical other world they describe might not be so fictional after all.
Stray (Touchstone trilogy) by Andrea K. Höst*
Young adult told through diary entries. Including this as a portal fantasy is a bit of a stretch, but essentially: Cassandra unkowingly walks through a wormhole and lands herself on another planet, where she has to survive on her own until she is rescued. Soon she finds herself embroiled in a war between creatures from dreamlike other dimensions and the people who saved her. Skirts the line between scifi and fantasy (it has psychic space ninjas!), but generally feels mostly like sci-fi. Absolutely fantastic worldbuilding.
In Other Lands by Sarah Rees Brennan*
Young adult. Kids who can walk between our world and a magical one get recruited into a magical school that trains them either to be fighters or sort-of diplomats. Our lead decides that fighting is stupid and that he’s going to peacefully solve every conflict ever, all while being the most delightfully obnoxious little brat possible and getting incolved in the most bisexual love triangle imaginable. Very good, funny, and heart-felt coming of age story.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
NPCs (Spells, Swords, & Stealth series) by Drew Hayes*
This one only counts as a portal fantasy on a technicality and on the fact that I love it and this is my list. Follows a group of DnD players whose characters immediately die, forcing them to make new characters, and, parallel to their adventures, a group of NPCs from the fantasy world who find themselves forced to take the place of a party of recently deceased adventurers. The two parties do cross path on occasion, but there aren't actually any portals involved as all characters (mostly) stay in their respective world. A fun and light-hearted adventure that turns a lot of the expected tropes of the genre and of character archetypes on their heads.
The Time of the Dark (The Darwath series) by Barbara Hambly
1982 classic. Medieval history student Gil and biker Rudy are complete strangers, but when they get mixed up with a wizard from another world the two must work together to survive and get back home. Fairly traditional fantasy with its fair share of issues, but! It has cool swordswomen, creepy lovecraftian monsters and also mammoths!
The Twelve Kingdoms by Fuyumi Ono*
Young adult, light novel. Yoko Nakajima is a regular high school student, or at least she was one until a strange man showed up in her school, swore allegiance to her and whisked her away to another world. As the two get separated, Yoko is stuck on her own in a strange world, hunted by humans and demons alike as she travels in search of a way home. Absolute high point of isekai literature, with an incredible main character and really cool and unique worldbuilding (also available as an anime, however I have yet to watch it and can't speak to its quality just yet).
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Peter Darling by Austin Chant*
Novella. An older Peter Pan returns to Neverland after years spent in our world, only to find that everything is different. Before he knows it, he finds himself working with his lifelong enemy, Captain Hook. Very gay and very trans, with interesting takes on toxic masculinity. Made my heart ache in the best of ways.
A Curse so Dark and Lonely by Brigid Kemmerer
Young adult. A retelling of beauty and the beast, where 'beauty' is a girl brought in from our world to a fantastical one and the narrative focuses a lot on what actually happens to the kingdom when the royal family suddenly disappears, and whether it’s even possible to fall in love with someone you know is deliberately trying to seduce you to break a curse. This is part one of a trilogy, however I'm only really recommending the first book as the second did not work for me at all.
The Golden Compass (His Dark Materials trilogy) by Philip Pullman
Young adult/middle grade, fantasy but has a lot of sci-fi aspects as well. Already well-known and for good reason, the His Dark Materials trilogy starts as what seems a pretty typical fantasy with some cool unique aspects (everyone has a soul-bound animal only they can speak to as their best friend!), and soon veers into a truly one of a kind story. It has magical portals, it has strange worlds with equally strange inhuman creatures, it has physics, it has god murder, it has gay angels, it has tragedy, and it’s very much worth your time.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Every Heart a Doorway (Wayward Children series) by Seanan McGuire*
A tumblr favorite, the Wayward Children novellas feature a school open to children who have returned from adventures in other realms and now have trouble adapting back to regular life. Some installments are set in our world, others follow children as they have their otherworldly adventures. The main characters vary between books, but are generally pretty diverse with among others asexual, trans, intersexual and sapphic leads. Both funny and dark, it takes a closer look at the trauma many endure growing up different.
Otherside Picnic (Otherside Picnic series) by Iori Miyazawa
Sapphic light novel with a surreal and episodic horror vibe. Following the directions of an urban legend, university student Sorawo finds her way to a reality populated by horrifying creatures from ghost stories and modern urban legends (of which I'm sure you'll recognize many). Here she teams up with fellow explorer Toriko, both to both find out more about this strange world and to help Toriko find a missing loved one. Also available as a manga and (one season of) an anime.
Last Bus to Everland by Sophie Cameron
Young adult. Brody is dealing with a lot, but it all gets a little easier when he meets Nico, who shows him how to access Everland, a magical land where he feels less out of place. But when the doors to Everland start disappearing, Brody must choose which world is really home. I'd categorize this less as fantasy and more as coming of age with a fantasy slant. It's also very gay.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The Starless Sea by Erin Morgenstern
Surreal and fairy tale-esque, The Starless Sea is stories within a story, following graduate student Zachary as he finds a strange book which, in-between other tales, tells a story from his own childhood. Trying to find out how this came to be, Zachary gets involved with a pink-haired woman and a handsome man who are doing their utmost to protect a strange, otherworldly library available only through magical doors. It's a book hard to put in words, but which I once described as "romantic without being a romance while stile having a love story at it's core", and which can be summed up only as "an Experience". It's also quite gay!
The Memory Theater by Karin Tidbeck
Listen, there’s a whole bunch of Swedish portal fantasies I read growing up that I'm dying to include here, but I'm not because they’re not available in English. The Memory Theater however is available, and is very good. Two children who were stolen into an otherworldly realm that wants them dead fight return to earth, and are followed by one of their captors across universes. The story has the feel of a dark fairy tale, and their captors, while not fey, are very reminiscent of them.
The Ten Thousand Doors of January by Alix E. Harrow*
Historical young adult, more magical realism than fantasy. In the early 20th century, January is living under the care of her father's employer while he travels the world searching for valuables and secrets. But both her father and her caretaker are keeping something from her, something about her own family's history. When she one day stumbles upon a strange book, one that speaks of other worlds, she finally sets out to find the truth. However, there are those seeking to stop her and destroy the doors between worlds, no matter what.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The Hollow Places by T. Kingfisher*
Horror rather than fantasy. After having divorced, Kara moves to stay with her uncle and help him run his museum of curiosities, until one day she discovers a hole in the wall of his house. The hole leads to a strange bunker, and beyond that, a dark and dangerous world beyond her understanding. In the company of a friend, she goes to explore this world, but quickly comes to regret her decision to do so.
The Unspoken Name by A.K. Larkwood*
The sort of portal fantasy you get when all the worlds connected by portals are fantasy worlds, and none of them are ours. The portals themselves become simply a part of the worldbuilding that the characters use to travel between fascinating places, and it's all really cool. It follows Csorwe (lesbian orc assassin whom I love), who grew up in a cult, indoctrinated as a child sacrifice to a god. But on the day she was meant to die, she instead chose to follow a powerful wizard and train to become his loyal servant and sword. Aside from being an excellent fantasy, it's also a close look at the hard path of unlearning indoctrination and the search for love and validation where you'll never find it, and learning to live for yourself.
Odin's Child (the Raven Rings trilogy) by Siri Pettersen
Norwegian (vaguely Norse mythology inspired) young adult. Fifteen-year-old Hirka grew up thinking she simply lost her tail to a wolf attack, but one day she finds out she never had one: she's an Odin's child, a human, sent from another world and rumored to spread rot and ruin wherever she goes. To keep her secret safe, she goes on the run, but there are forces hunting for her, wanting to use her in their war. This reads mostly as a fairly typical epic fantasy, with the portal aspect not playing a major role until the second book.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The Barbed Coil by J.V. Jones
1997 classic. Tessa is a young woman with little going for her, until she stumbles upon a strange ring that transports her to a magical and dangerous other land. Here she meets Ravis, a mercenary who takes it upon himself to protect her, and discover her own special abilities, which she must use against an evil king whose mind has been corrupted and taken over by his crown, the Barbed Coil.
Skeen's Leap (Skeen trilogy) by Jo Clayton
1986 classic. While most portal stories are fantasy, this one has a distinct sci-fi flavour. Skeen is master thief wanted in a myriad solar systems, until her spaceship gets stolen and she's stranded on a backwater planet. Here she hears rumors of ruins leading to a strange other land. Hoping for treasure enough to get her off-planet, Skeen goes in search of this place, but finds herself stuck and unable to get back. This one has a unique, almost stream of consciousness prose that takes a while getting used to, but rewards you with a one of a kind experience.
Inkheart (Inkworld trilogy) by Cornelia Funke
German middle grade/young adult, in which the fantastical other worlds are those told of in books. Young Meggie's father has the ability to, when he reads, bring things and people out of the books, or put other people into said books. However, once having done so, he knows of no way to put anyone back where they belong. Now, years after he accidentally brought the terrible villain Capricorn and his henchmen out of their book, he and his daughter must evade them at all costs or be forced to bring further horrors out of the page and into the world.
Bonus AKA I haven't read these yet but they seem really cool
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
An Accident of Stars by Foz Meadows
A teenage girl accidentally follows a worldwalker from her world to a magical realm on the brink of civil war. I believe this on has both a major polyamorous relationship and ace/aro characters?
The Sleeping Dragon (Guardians of the Flame series) by Joel Rosenberg
1983 classic. A group of college dnd players find themselves transported to the magical realm they previously thought just a game.
The Wandering Inn by Pirateaba
Webnovel. After having been transported to a magical world, Erin decides to, rather than become a warrior or a mage, start running an inn.
Honorary mentions AKA these didn't really work for me but maybe you guys will like them: The Marked Girl by Lindsey Klingele, The Summer Tree by Guy Gavriel Kay, Child of a Hidden Sea by A.M. Dellamonica, Spellsinger by Alan Dean Foster, The Shattered Gates by Ginn Hale, The Awakening by Nora Roberts, Daughter of Smoke and Bone by Laini Taylor.

KHOC Week Day 6 - Journal
This has been a prompt for @khoc-week that I've been so excited about. Hinata keeps journals of her adventures as a way to keep track of her memories. She's forgotten large chunks of her past before and wants to make sure that can never happen again.
Her journals, however, are a bit different from a normal diary. She writes them like a story and also draws pictures in them to show where she is. She's not an incredibly gifted artist, but learned a few things from her time with Namine.
Tumblr media
This is an excerpt of her journal entry during a short stay on Montressor. In Chapter 41 of "The Forgotten Traveler", Hinata and her team find themselves back on Montressor in search of information on Sam's dad. It leads them back to the Benbow, where Sam's mom holds the missing piece.
The actual chapter was written from Sam's point of view, but this journal entry is Hinata's take on it all. I'll post the entire entry below:
----------------------------------
The Benbo Inn was filled with warmth and life. Sarah Hawkins always did have a way of making people feel welcome. She kept our booth open. I remember sitting there after my shift, or whenever Sam and James would come during my work day and convince me to take a break. Tonight though, it lacked the usual excitement it used to.
While the rest of the inn bustled and chatted, we were there for something different. Sam needed to talk with her mom. It wasn't going to be easy and it made me queasy to think about. Jenna was someone I couldn't figure out. Her eyes showed a vast emptiness, yet I could sense something deeper. It made me sad for her. Though I could understand the anger Sam held towards her. Two years of isolation… What could that do to someone? I went crazy during my month alone on Treasure Planet. Well, mostly alone.
As Ben and I took our seats, Sam went to her mom. Her words were short and terse, telling her they needed to talk after closing time, then she came back to the booth with us. I wish I could have said something to help. Part of me wished I could have taken care of the entire thing for her. But that wouldn't help anything. It was something she needed to face on her own.
Knowing that, I asked if she wanted us there during the discussion, which she said yes to. All that remained was for us to eat dinner and wait. But even with the great food from Sarah, I didn't have much of an appetite. Sam didn't seem to either. While Ben kept the conversation going, mostly with himself. I'm glad he was there.
It was agonizing to wait. I kept drumming my fingers against the table and I'm pretty sure my leg wouldn't stop shaking. Then closing time finally came. I helped Jenna and Sarah clean up. It was just like I was working there again. But then it was time to talk.
Jenna brought over a chair and carefully folded her apron over the back of it before she sat down. She sat on the edge, her back straight. It was like she was trying to seem stronger than she felt. Sam brought out a locket. It looked similar to mine but was made from a bluish metal. I didn't recognize the engraving on top, not that it entirely matters. Jenna seemed to though. I noticed her shifting in her seat at the sight of it. Did she know what was inside it?
Sam asked if she'd seen the vision and Jenna just nodded. Not a word came out of her. Sam continued to pry and Jenna's entire demeanor shifted. Her posture slumped and that distant glaze came back over her eyes. There was more to this. Even with the possibility of getting Jarith back, she didn't react. It only made her retreat further back into herself. What was really going on?
There was something deeper. Something even Sam didn't seem to understand and realize. The raw pain between them was palpable. It didn't take long for Sam to lose her temper. She slammed her hands against the table, demanding answers. Jenna begged her not to look into this and got up from her seat to leave.
I couldn't sit by anymore and got out of my seat, while Lupe took care of calming Sam down. Jenna could hardly stand. She leaned against the tables for support as she walked away. I moved to stand in front of her and all I saw was a broken woman. Everything she did… she abandoned her children when they needed her most, ignored them when they pleaded for help and even for something as simple as love, and locked herself away for nearly two years. Why didn't I share Sam's resentment towards her? There had to be more to it. More that we didn't understand about Jenna.
All I had to say to Jenna was acknowledge she was trying to protect Sam. She broke down. Sam was all she had left.
Sam cried that if that was the case, why did she never care?
It was a valid question. One Jenna didn't have an answer to. Whatever is going on with her, maybe Jarith will have the answer. We have to find him.
Lupe and I calmed Jenna down enough to let Sam back in for another chance to talk. We promised her that we'd get him back… Maybe that was a foolish thing to promise, but it seemed like the only choice at the time. I know I'll do everything in my power to do it. We all will.
Sam tried again. She knelt in front of Jenna and offered the locket once more. She pleaded softly, begging for any information about her dad. And Jenna did… she told us the name Glee Anselm. That's where we'll find Sam's dad.
We have quite the journey ahead of us.

Here's a bunch of press release style description of my novel and its sequels, complete with release dates. If you are trans, autistic, and/or plural, and into science fiction, you may appreciate what we've made.
The Tunnel Apparati Diaries Book Release
With the guidance of Mau (a.k.a. Phage), Ashwin Pember, recently ascended Ancestor of the Sunspot, projects their mind to Earth via the Tunnel Apparatus. Only, they do this to become the new headmate of the twenty-seven year old autistic transgender plural system of Sarah and Goreth Ampersand of Portland, OR, who think that Phage is their old imaginary friend.
Unfortunately, Sarah and Goreth struggle to manage their already difficult life.
They’ve been leaning on their housemates and friends for support, but playing host to an alien being challenges them all.
Furthermore, there's an important reason Phage came to Earth in the first place, and it needs Sarah and Goreth to cooperate with Ashwin in order to achieve its goals.
The Tunnel Apparati Diaries tell the story of how the Sunspot Chronicles came to be translated and published on Earth, but what does this mean for humanity?
Because there’s a probe full of construction nanites left somewhere in the mountains of Washington State and someone needs to take responsibility for it before it falls into the wrong hands.
Release Dates for the Tunnel Apparati Diaries:
Book One: The End of the Tunnel - July 31, 2024
Book Two: The Sun Also Hatches - October 21, 2024
Book Three: The Dragon in the Dining Room - November 27, 2024
Available at http://www.sunspot.world or http://www.lulu.com
The Tunnel Apparati Diaries take place on Earth between the years of 2023 and 2025, in Portland Oregon, and follow the lives of Sarah and Goreth Ampersand, Erik, and the Audreys – a friends group of transgender plural systems – after they make contact with an alien visitor to Sarah and Goreth’s psyche, Ashwin Pember.
Soon it becomes clear that this is not a product of their trauma or mental illness. It is a real event, actual first contact, and the fate of the Earth is on the line. But the personal impacts of this contact end up taking priority.
Their personal accounts, each book written by a different system member (Ashwin, Goreth, and then Sarah), explore the challenges of building community and relationships while being multiply disabled, transgender, queer, autistic, and experiencing a consensus reality that does not match that of most of the rest of the world.
It is a sequel and a possible entry point to reading the Sunspot Chronicles, and the two series together combine themes of plurality, neurodiversity, biodiversity, and the exercise and protection of personal consent and autonomy in the face of past and rising fascism. Every book has its own unique focus and take on building and keeping found family and community here on Earth and out amongst the stars. And what it means to be person, whether human or otherwise.
Written by different members of the Inmara Fenumera, an autistic transgender plurality living in the Pacific Northwest, the Tunnel Apparati Diaries offer genuine personal insight into the lived experiences of diverse plural systems (people living with DID, OSDD, and other forms of plurality), but with a strong dash of wish fulfillment, light romance, and adventure.
The Future is Plural. It deserves good plural fiction.

@forthegothicheroine - the ask got deleted in a wild mishap, but here are the Which books I’d recommend to various Batman Villains! (thank you so much for this btw -- absolutely juicy question and I had a thrill imagining any scenario where I’d be in such a position as to be recommending them things!
Harley Quinn - Fingersmith by Sarah Waters, naturally! Things not appearing what they seem, the plot twists, the self-reclamation, the romance, overcoming abuse - I think she’d really enjoy it! Conversely, I think Zola’s Thérèse Raquin would speak to her and maybe help her process some things regarding her bad patterns in criminal relationships.
Poison Ivy - Gotta keep with the plants theme and give her The Weeds by Katy Simpson Smith, the tale of two women botanists from two different time periods whose entries framed around each type of plant and its uses explores a different theme/moment in their lives, usually relating to gendered violence and resilience to such. It’s even got a sapphic subplot, so really it’s made for her. Rumour has it that the Matt Reeves Batverse for her is planned to be inspired by Nathaniel Hawthorne’s Rappacini’s Daughter, which has me insanely excited -- so I’d throw that on the list as well. To switch gears from just the plants, I think that she’d really enjoy the sheer depth of devotion between women on display in My Best Friend’s Exorcism by Grady Hendrix.
Riddler - I feel like any mystery novel you give the guy is going to end in “I simply would have _____, RIP to [protagonist’s/antagonist’s name] But I, Edward Nygma/Nigma/Nashton Am Different”. Guy probably went into a full rage about how stupidly Franklin Clarke from The ABC Murders got caught after all the trouble he took with the puzzle-clues. after so I think I’d give him Walter Tevis’ The Queen’s Gambit since a lot of iterations show him having a fondness for chess (and the genuine skill in the writing), and Beth’s arc with difficult beginnings, addiction struggles, resilience and alienation would resonate with him if he ever would admit to it. I also think Gogol would suit him well; I see him enjoying the humour in short works like The Nose, but Dead Souls’ protagonist really suits him as a trickster conman who entertains the possibility of doing better.
Scarecrow - Oh, this is the big one. Hardest one on the list, because Crane’s probably the best-read on the list considering his original motive of wanting to heist money to fund getting books, and his Year One backstory working this into his horrific childhood probably cemented this, so odds are he’s read most of them already, especially the classics! But I did like the suggestion in your fic The Most Poetical Topic he hasn’t read Stephen King’s Carrie, since that’s the shoo-in. I do think he’d also get a kick out of Silvia Moreno-Garcia’s works for modern gothics - Mexican Gothic and the use of the spores is up his alley in particular! Lindqvist‘s Let the Right One In with the cute little murder couple of vampire kids who absolutely obliterate bullies and find connection in being outsiders is probably his wish fulfilment jam, let’s be real. And because I’m me, I’d also insist on him reading The Moth Diaries by Rachel Klein because it’s essential reading imo and the psychological horror “is there a vampire or is it untreated grief and mental illness” plotline would tickle him.
Two-Face - Handing him a copy of Phantom of the Opera is probably a great way to get him to flip the coin on whether he’s shooting you or drowning you, so I’d say I’d get Harvey some more legal-related literature. He’s probably a fan of Atticus Finch, so hand him a better John Grisham, a good Perry Mason tale, or Dickens’ A Tale of Two Cities especially. And of course, Dumas’ Count of Monte Cristo. We’re counting on you, Harv!!!
Penguin - Perfume: The Story of a Murderer by Patrick Suskind was all but made for Oswald, especially the more grotesque iterations. It practically feels like proto-Burton!Oswald, although most iterations could probably get a lot out of the themes of abandonment and difficulty, the grotesque, and the ebb and flow of affections and power depending on one’s usefulness. The protagonist is even named after an animal to signify unwantedness!! But privately, I think Oswald likes his cozy mysteries too.
Mr. Freeze - The Elegance of the Hedgehog by Muriel Barbery -- really, hear me out, because while the book is only directly about grief and a new lease on life at the end, there’s the grief throughout for a life not lived, and I think he’d enjoy its little quotidian charms and the way it speaks of finding appreciation while you’re here. Otherwise, I’d say Terry Pratchett’s Nation, which is one of the other most immensely powerful explorations of grief. It also involves quite a few scientists for his bias!!
Mad Hatter - Lewis Carroll’s works are his bread and butter, but I’d be very curious to see his thoughts on The Screwtape Letters. Otherwise I think I’d have to hand him a copy of The Stepford Wives with a sticky-note foreword of: “THIS IS A CAUTIONARY TALE, NOT AN INSTRUCTION MANUAL”.

andrew packard was josie’s late husband who died in a boating accident a little over a year prior and he was katherine's brother. josie ended up inheriting everything that katherine would have so i guess that explains why she has a stick up her ass...

“behind all things are reasons. reasons can even explain the absurd.”
HIS ASS IS UPSIDE DOWN LMAOOO

“diane, it struck me again earlier this morning. there are two things that continue to trouble me and im speaking now not only as an agent of the bureau but also as a human being. what really went on between marilyn monroe and the kennedys? and who really pulled the trigger on jfk?” LIKE BITCH!!! I HATE HIM (affectionately)
coop is so real for being transfixed with audrey bc me too
laura tutored audrey’s brother johnny
johnny is said to have “emotional problems” bc he’s 27 and in the third grade. im assuming its some mental disability
audrey said that “emotional problems” run in the family
audrey you are so strange girl. love you tho
i love how everybody in the station has donuts in their mouths LMAOOOO
i also love how coop says "three for three" after he sees andy, lucy, and harry all eating donuts
laura’s cause of death was blood loss
leo has a big old blood stain on one of his shirts :0
EW YOU FREAK LET GO OF HER GOD
his nasty ass ponytail fucking barf
laura was doing cocaine
james has been the only one who seems to have been the most honest whilst being interrogated (yk excluding the part about the locket)
laura, bobby, and snake have been in cahoots with leo. im guessing it has to do with drugs
laura’s video played again and it stopped on a frame of her face and her voice whispered “help me”
big ed is james’s uncle
harry knows about ed and norma
someone drugged ed at the roadhouse
coop has some of his FBI guys coming down to examine laura’s body
ed gave a little gesture to hawk when he returned james back to him, which hawk mirrored back to him. they seem to be touching the side of their eyes/temples? and wiping down, like a tear maybe??? what’s up with that?
james’s mom is out of town
HEHEHHEHE HARRY CALLING THEM SHERLOCK AND WATSON
pete and josie have a sweet relationship too :((
pete kind of reminds me of my dad a little bit
laura helped josie with her english
she aid that the last time she saw laura, she was upset about something but they didn’t talk about it. laura then told josie “i think i now understand how you feel about your husbands death.” whatever that means
katherine is such a cunt i hate her so much
of course cooper would know what shenanigans means
katherine is cheating on pete with benjamin horne. gross.
she and mr. horne are trying to bankrupt the mill. he also suggests that they burn it down
EWWWWW OH MY GOD HES KISSING/SUCKING HER TOESSSSS NOOOOOOOOO
so donna went over to the palmer’s house, and sarah suddenly hallucinated and thought donna was laura. then she saw a creepy guy crouching and looking up at her from a bed? and promptly started freaking out
rosette worked at the horne’s department store as a salesgirl at the perfume counter and joked it was “the sweet job she ever had”
the one armed man is back!!!
“laura died two days ago. i lost you years ago.” mr. horne said this to audrey and it gives us some insight into their relationship (i hope they elaborate on this more in the future)
okay so it looks like bobby comes from a religious and military home
his father is def the dominant head of the family. he has a strong presence and his wife seems to be more meek compared to him. very “good christian wife” core. thats not a dig at her, she seems sweet enough, but when general briggs slaps bobby for putting a cigarette in his mouth at dinner, she does nothing about it
laura helped norma with the “meals on wheels program” that laura helped organize. she really does seem like such a golden child
the log apparently saw something the night laura died
god, the way shelly’s face dropped when leo asked about his shirt gave me chills
laura recorded tapes for dr. jacoby
“i just know im gonna get lost in those woods again tonight. i just know it.” (laura on one of her tapes)
she also mentioned a  “mystery man”. i wonder if its the creepy guy sarah hallucinated or something
ohhhhh so it was dr. jacoby who found the other half of the necklace

@aonokumura replied to your post:
Rin got the strange feeling he shouldn't be reading this. And yet he had to know what happened next...
Tumblr media
Sarah didn't say anything at first when she caught Rin reading through one of Marsha's old diaries. It was a good thing that it was Sarah who caught him and not Marsha. Instead of imediately snapping at him like Marsha would've, Sarah snuck up right behind him.
Peeking over Rin's shoulder, she got to see which entry Rin was looking at. "Jason was a jerk."

Even if Ward was able to somehow make a enough money to get out of the Cut and buy Tannyhill, there is literally no logical reason on how he was able to afford a historical landmark that also serves as a residential area, specifically Tannyhill.
So I’ve already mentioned how extremely sus the fact that Ward is a third-gen legacy at Chapel Hill who came from the Cut, but that still doesn’t explain how he was able to afford somewhere as old as Tannyhill, especially if it was an old plantation before the Civil War.
Even if it was completely run down and abandoned (which I doubt), the historical society or something would have taken care of it and closed it off from the public to prevent modern families living in it.
SO…that meant that it had to have been already lived in for all those years, and someone Ward had to get close to in order to justify living on Tannyhill when he claimed ownership.
What if Sarah and Rafe’s mom was the true owner and Ward murdered her when she discovered his affair with Rose (it’s been confirmed Rafe was very young when those two started seeing each other)? Or maybe the Camerons were actually in cahoots with the Limbreys this entire time and Ward’s ancestors were given Tannyhill as a token for compliance?
Ahhhhh, these ideas are literally feeding my OBX AU!
I'M LOVING YOUR IDEAS!!! YES!!!! I really love the idea of Ward murdering their mother, that's a GREAT idea!!
Although one of my storylines doesn't exactly answer this question, I think you're getting very very close to the real story of some of Big John's diary entries from Snow on the Beach... 👀

Strange Gaming Diaries: Dreaming Sarah (& Wishing Sarah), by Asteristic Game Studio
Tumblr media
read the new diary entry on my website here!
I love it when a game proudly and explicitly calls itself "inspired by yume nikki" so I have yet another opportunity to talk about my favorite video game. the two games themselves are a bit of a mixed bag—unsurprising given the well they're drawing from—but it gives me the perfect chance to talk about surreal themes in games, and why "there is a big eyeball and it is staring at you" does not the style of yume nikki make
