how stupid would it be if i tried shiny hunting in pokemon white at full odds. (granted, in dark grass which should partly double my odds because of the 1/3 double battle chance)

i COULD, theoretically, do this in pokemon white 2 but there's no way i'm getting the shiny charm there without cheating. i could also theoretically breed for a shiny but i'm not sure i have a ditto from another region (this is my childhood save file- i don't know if i would've been aware of masuda method yet)

i'm at least tempted to try LOL i'd love a legit shiny from gen v... if anyone's got any suggestions let me know

hey, I'm currently shiny hunting a hisuian zorua for a new team to use when the dlcs arrive. I am using mass and massive mass outbreaks in legends arceus and the masuda method in scarlet and was wondering which one do you think is easier to do? I have the shiny charm in both games and perfected both zorua and zoroark in legends aswell.

Hey! I personally have not had a ton of luck with outbreaks in Legends Arceus. They feel more chaotic to me than the mass outbreaks in Scarlet/Violet. With the shiny charm being in both games, I would say Masuda in Scarlet/Violet will probably be faster and it’s a more controlled environment where you don’t have to worry about saving or potentially missing your target. If you hatch inside a city (especially around the school), you don’t risk influencing the odds of causing other random Pokémon to be shiny. This was the approach I took to hatching my own shiny Hisuian Zorua. ☺️ Best of luck on your hunt! I’d love to see pictures of your success no matter which route you take! ✨

my first experience with pokemon was at six years old, when a neighbor was selling a binder of pokemon cards at a yard sale. i ended up being gifted that binder for free, which kickstarted my descent into Pokemon Madness

i would trade pokemon cards with all the kids on the bus and at school! and then later, my cousin would lend me his copies of pokemon blue and pokemon yellow to play.

his copy of blue had a broken internal battery, so it couldn't retain a save file in it. so i played Yellow. i ended up ditching my partner pikachu and vividly remember making it to giovanni with a level 70 pidgeot, which is when i hit a wall and quit.

however, i consider pokemon diamond to be my first real entry in the series! it came out when i was 10 years old, so i had a better grasp on how to play the game. (this did not stop me from using my cousins action replay to hack my game though, and as a result i could never enter the battle resort island because my game would freeze upon traveling there)

from that point on, my interest in the series would remain rather dormant as i knew no one irl who really liked the games until high school.

i did have a nintendo ds though, and i religiously asked for the new games as they came out! (i ended up somehow losing ALL MY DS ERA GAMES THOUGH WHICH IS, AND WILL ALWAYS BE, THE GREATEST TRAGEDY OF MY LIFE THUS FAR)

i was introduced to the concept of shinies in high school through ORAS and XY. the first shiny i ever received was my first wonder trade in X i think? it was an abomasnow. idk if it was hacked or not, since it was lost to time. i did a lot of trading illegitimately gotten pokemon thru gts in those games, which is how i got a lot of random shinies.

in college is when i suddenly found myself surrounded in people who liked pokemon and fire emblem and all that stuff. so that was the start of me going HOGWILD with pokemon cards.

i didn't really start shiny hunting until sword/shield though! i did some casual sunmoon hunts using sos chaining and masuda method, but when swsh came out i kinda Really Went Wild with masuda method 😭 it's still one of my favorite games to hunt in to this day

I SHOWED HER A PICTURE I TOOK OF HIM IN THE CLUBROOM WITH THE PIKACHU FILTER AND SHE WASN'T EVEN A LITTLE CONVINCED

she hadn't played the game in a while so she didn't remember the mabosstiff plotline (she had already done 2 titans) and i was careful not to spoil it

i evolved a bunch of finizen with marks (one of them has the zero energy mark which is hilarious)

she did iono's gym and her shiny primarina (1st pic) listened to her even tho it was way over level cap

she brought her shiny primarina and her shiny rabboot (4th pic), both of which were given to her by her older sister. it gave me flashbacks to The Shiny Froakie Incident (in which i spent a month shiny hunting froakies with masuda method for my little brother's birthday) and i was reminded of my Older Sibling Responsibilities in spoiling my brother

i told her she could try doing fairy squad but i wasn't aware they didn't scale so ortega's servant ended up being like 20 over level cap (she got her ass kicked again)

we found out we could walk between/around other players' wild battles and do dumb shit

when we got bored and stopped playing i sent her an arven edit i had saved and she looked up at me like "really?"

i gave her teletelo's piplup print set as a VERY LATE christmas present since piplup was her first starter and IT CAME WITH STICKERS AND CUTE LITTLE DOODLES ON THE BOX AND WE EXPLODED FROM CUTENESS

I simply said to someone that I prefer finding shiny pokemon randomly instead of hunting only just one pokemon and basically ensuring only finding that one (ie Masuda Method) because it's more fun to me, apparently that means I want everyone to stop shiny hunting altogether??

I just simply get more joy coming across them randomly, like the Lechonk I just got today, I wasn't even looking for a shiny, just a male ralts to get Gallades Pokedex entry eventually, and I almost mistook it for a hoppip, but it brought me so much more thrill than outbreak or Masuda Method ever did for me, and I think I should,,,, just be allowed to feel like this instead of having people try to twist my feelings into trying to make me seem like the type of person who goes "Oh well that sounds stupid so it's bad"

Like no, dex nav chain or Masuda Method or outbreak hunt all you want, but if you ask me how I do it, I'm just gonna be honest and say it's more fun for me to just,,, basically trip over them instead of meticulous searching every pixel for them

The luck of the draw very rarely goes in my favor but when it does makes it feel better to be almost entirely random

Running away from the sneaking tutorial in ORAS was something I just always did when I didn't want a poochyena right away, so imagine how much better it felt when I ran on a new save of Alpha Sapphire only to run right into a Shiny one, sure I hadn't wanted one, but it was mainly the one you get from the tutorial itself I didn't want, even if it knew a secret move

Or like the Wiglet I found on like my second playthrough of Violet, and had almost looked over because i simply wasn't looking for a shiny in the moment

It's those times that feel great to me, I get being proud of all the work you went through for your perfectly competitively viable shiny Starter, but I'm fine and happy just to have my random finds, even if half the time they have the shittiest IV spread known to Pokemon

The Big Fairy Multi-Type Shiny Badge Quest!

So, I don't...make videos so I'm gonna live blog mine! There will be screenies and descriptions. Maybe recordings if something funny happens but..

Well the title says it all: I'm doing a Shiny Badge quest, and my targets? FAIRY TYPES.

There has been a change of PLANS. Because shiny hunting is already starting to wear me down a bit, I am going to bite the bullet and go ahead and go MULTI TYPE.

So the rules I'm adhering to are as follows.

The quest does not start until I start my treasure hunt. Meaning I have to get to Mezagosa and do the tutorial stuff.

I can only use shiny fairy types, Nevermind I am going a bit easier on myself and doing a multi-type run, and i, as an armature shiny hunter, am going to allow Sandwiches and Outbreaks. I will not, however, be doing Masuda Method.

I am only counting the Gyms towards this Badge quest. Later, if I finish this I'll do one where I do a shiny in between the star bases and titans too but not this time.

I MUST use the shiny I catch during the gym, however my team for battling the anything else can be made of whatever shinys i choose EXCEPT....

I am going to do ONE LAST hunt before the endgame. Spoilers: i am going to hunt one last shiny type before fighting Sada. That makes a total of 9 hunts.

Dupe and non fairy shinies go in the box. If i get more than one of a mon I am going to nickname and wonder trade. : ) So if you get a shiny and the OT is Riley with the ID No. of 474896 das me. <3

This is NOT a nuzlock. That being said...

I will not be using potions or revives in battle. In between fights? yes. IN them. no.

I am using level caps: I cannot be higher level than the current gym's strongest Pokemon. Any pokenon who go above that cap will be boxed before the fight.

I am not counting Tera types. A pokemon that is not fairy but has a fairy tera type still doe snot count. Tera wont matter as I am going multi-type

I can only use Terastlizing during gyms and Only in a pinch. I HAVE to save it as a hail Mary.

I must battle trainers. I can only skip trainers at the start but once I have my first shiny i have to backtrack and battle them!

I FORGOT THAT I HAVE TO NICKNAME ALL OF MY MONS. Thankfully as of the edit i did to this, I HAVEN'T FOUND A SHINY YET.

I’m currently 360 Rockruffs hatched into my quest to hatch a replacement for the shiny Lycanroc I lost due to slow reflexes and forgetting to turn off autosave. In theory I am maybe? halfway through the odds of achieving this goal using the Masuda Method. I’ll do another 60 eggs tomorrow after work and see how my luck goes, then I’ll need to dump those boxes of Rockruffs because it seems the game is unhappy with having a couple hundred of the same Pokemon to keep up with. Nothing serious, it just lags more than usual. On the bright side there are the two shinies on this save file that I did manage to catch. Wrecker was the first, followed by the Lycanroc I lost. Lady I stumbled across while running around hatching eggs. She is too high level for me to use in battles (I only have one badge at the moment on this file) but she makes running away from them easier. The area around Alfornada is nice and open so I can run around and hatch 10-15 Rockruffs in one ‘circuit’. Reaaaally hoping that I get the shiny Rockruff before the end of the week though.

assuming im not suffering like the last 2 days (today is lookin like im not suffering as bad) we will be shiny hunting, masuda method, the starters. i have a ton of eggs saved up so we will be zooming around with tera raid battles. tomorrow im thinking of the same thing, if we run out of eggs tonight we will be making them have sex while we like vibe or something. there will be timers if we do the sex one tomorrow, for me to check the basket and every other one is to make another sammich

tldr: tonight we are hatching eggs with tera raids mixed in. tomorrow we might make them sex, we might do more hatching.

back when i was a teen i liked languages so i have a copy of pokemon pearl in french and a copy of pokemon black in japanese. bc of this i can continue doing the masuda method (breeding pokemon from different regions = higher shiny chance for the offspring) even tho the servers have since gone down. 

also, i played pokemon x in english and pokemon y in italian and that counts as the pokemon being from a different ‘region’ too. so it really saved me the trouble of finding pokemon from different regions with good IVs for shiny breeding bc i could do it myself.

dunno if it works for modern games? i wonder if you could start another save on a different character on ur switch in a different language and use home to get pokemon from ‘different regions’? anyone know? much to think about

I went through my pokemon games and here are the results: my first game was x and I replayed it so many times it's not a surprise I don't remember any of my pokemon. There was an event for xy to celebrate the 20th? Anniv of the franchise where they gave out a mythical/legendary via mystery gift, one pokemon per month, and I remember being so pissed off I missed like 90% of it because I didn't keep up to date with pokemon news. I did get the arceus tho which is really surprising I thought I didn't get any because I was so annoyed. The only thing I actually remembered from my x game was the disease. I've still never encountered or caught a shiny tho. So imagine a decade ago me's surprise when I find out that pokerus is rarer than shiny pokemon. I also have some traded pokemon from Japan which thank god I can masuda method something. Fun fact I can't trade anymore because I can't connect to the Internet because I moved houses and I can't change the Internet I connect to because I'm in parent controls hell. Anyway my y game. I had a space theme with the nicknames and I'm so annoyed I don't remember playing it because it happened 3/4 of a decade ago :( I opened up my moon game and I was so surprised at the nicknames. Like why did I name salazzle slick, was it a homestuck thing??? Also my starter has the same name as one of my friends but I don't think I had met the friend yet when I nicknamed the starter so that's wild. I replayed alpha sapphire so many times in such a short span I actually got sick of it lmao. So it's not surprising that I only have one badge on that save file. I think I might reset and replay it tomorrow because it is actually fairly good from what I remember.

Speaking of shiny Pokémon, did I ever tell y’all about the time me and my friends were doing a fun activity where we sent eachother eggs? We were making blind teams to fight each other with. 

But the egg I got from one friend hatched and ... it was a first egg shiny dedenne. It’s kinda funny since masuda method has never worked for me save this one instance.

I hear egg shiny odds can change up with different trainer IDs so that might have come into play somehow. Maybe.

since my brain is on shiny hunting, let me tell you all about the most annoying thing to happen to me ever. This was just over a year ago.

i had just gotten ultra moon, it was downloading onto my 3ds. A different sd card than all my other stuff, because it was such a big game and i had no space.

I was getting UM after getting bored of Sun, i was also frustrated after 251 eevee eggs, masuda method, and no shiny.

so after playing for a bit in UM i was hatching more eevee eggs. And whoa. after only 41 eggs. Shiny Eevee, i even made a post on my instagram account.

Glitter.......... my first ever mainline game shiny (that wasn’t gotten from a wonder trade that was likely hacked in). i loved him.

BUT NOT TOO LONG AFTER THIS. THE SAVE DATA CORRUPTED. I LOST HIM. I MISS YOU GLITTER :((((((((

Shiny Eggcelence! - Welcome Shiny Zorua

Once I got my Hisuian Zoroark for preordering the Pokémon DLC I knew I was going to need to shiny hunt Hisuian Zorua. While Hisuian Zorua is a rare beauty on its own, I do love the soft pastel blue hues on a smoky grey coat. Shiny Hisuian Zorua reminds me of a foggy midnight sky. 🌙✨

There are many steps to egg hunting if you want to be particular about it and anyone who’s been following my research for awhile knows that I can never do things the “easy” way. I wanted my shiny Hisuian Zorua in a Moonball. But how?

The first step is to picnic with a male and female Zorua. My original Zoroark was female and being in a Cherish ball would only pass on regular Pokeball eggs. I gave her an everstone so that she would pass on her Hisuian qualities to her offspring. Then, I caught a regular male Zorua in a Moonball (saving first to ensure success) and picnic’ed with them.

Eventually I got a Hisuian Zorua in a Moonball. That was my cue to switch up my picnic partners to this new Hisuian Zorua in a Moonball and a ditto from another region. Yes, now that we have the Pokeball we want, it’s time to use the Masuda method.

This is the easy part supposedly, but historically I haven’t fared very well with the Masuda method (my quest for a shiny Alolan Meowth in Galar took well over a thousand eggs). I promised myself that I would take it easy and not count this time but between you and me it took a LOT of eggs.

I like to hatch eggs inside of Mesagoza to avoid any unintentional shiny encounters that I could miss out on outside. Specifically, I like to run around in circles around the giant mural in the center of the city. Many circles were traced. But then…

Shimin was born! I was very lucky as Shimin had perfect stats even though none of his siblings did. What better way to celebrate a birthday than with a photo shoot?

Shimin seemed a little hesitant to play with the ball. In fact, he seemed a bit lonely so I immediately “hatched up” some plans to get him a shiny friend…

Also I’m currently vibing, listening to a YouTube video, and making a shitload of stuff with the Cram-O-Matic so I don’t run out of money for balls whilst mark hunting.

Also when I stop to camp and heal my party I’m trying to fill out my Curry Dex for completion purposes because why not?

Also I already have all the clothes as of Isle of Armor so I don’t have to save money for that, thank you internet advising me to use my copious amount of Watts to buy copious amounts of Luxury Balls and sell them for money. Though I do need to keep grinding Max Raids both for Armorite Ore in case I make some more competitive mons and for Watts so I can get Honey’s rare League Card because it’s something I can reasonably complete.

Fuck Restricted Sparring honestly, but apparently it has a shirt behind it, so maybe once I get bored of mark hunting and have Honey’s rare card I’ll research some strategies and make some mons to beat that.

Don’t suggest shiny hunting, apparently the wild method still doesn’t work and Masuda Method is just too tedious for me.
