I have seen a bunch of positivity/appreciation/whatever for fanwriters/artists but like. remember to appreciate your scanlators/translators. like the scanlating scene is not what it used to be because the official sources have picked up lot of like. popular mangas but you still rely on scanlators etc for more niche works and... I used to do lot of scanlating and I don't think I EVER got a positive comment or any appreciation and like... at least when I write and share my unhinged fic or art I made it to amuse myself but if I am scanlating a comic I already can read it obviously so ANY work I am putting in is 100% for other people... I have literally scanlated whole-ass series because I knew ONE person read them at all and I wanted them to experience a series I liked. If people don't like your work tho why would anyone do it then?

ooh another piece of media i can add to the list of stuff i want to talk about, stigmata. its a bl manga that has gotten some attention but has flown under the radar in terms of broader discussion. its got a really beautiful art style that hearkens back to 70s and 80s styles even though it was released in 2015. its a really interesting work in terms of its thematic ideas and its basic concept

Their Story and The Guy She Was Interested In Wasn't a Guy at All

Recently I've been thinking about the success of The Guy She Was Interested In Wasn't a Guy at All and how it feels like seeing where Tamen de Gushi could have ended up, had its publishing issues not lead too various hiatuses during its peak.

To give a quick summary of events; Tamen de Gushi (aka Their Story/SQ Begin W/Your Name!) is a manhua created and posted online by Tan Jiu. It was incredibly popular around 2015 to 2018, during which time it had big ad campaigns, cute merch, animated promos and a print volume of the manhua itself. Just the one though. Sadly a the start of 2018 Tan Jiu announced that volume 2 would be indefinitely postponed as their publisher had requested several scenes be removed, which they refused to do. People speculated the scenes were the romantic ones between the leads, particularly the Big Kiss that would have been in that volume, but it was never specified. Regardless, this had a pretty disastrous effect on the manhua, as without the revenue from volume 2 Tan Jiu understandably began working on other projects and updates basically stopped altogether outside of occasional illustrations and short comics detached from the main storyline.

Meanwhile The Guy She Was Interested In Wasn't a Guy at All (lets go with the insane shorthand tgswiiwagaa from here on) is a manga created and posted online by Sumiko Arai. First starting in 2021 it has become incredibly popular, which has lead to big ad campaigns, popup shops and cafes, a drama CD and print volumes of the manga itself.

So there is some surface levels similarities between the two: both are released via the author's social media account, both feature a high school slice of life stories, both gained a huge followings outside of their original language due to scanlation efforts, and both were/are the the face of digitally published yuri.

I don't think we'd get tgswiiwagaa without Tamen de Gushi, or at least I don't think it would be as big as it is without the groundwork Tamen de Gushi lay within online spaces. I can't speak too much on Tamen de Gushi's domestic fandom, or even its Japanese one, (though it was clearly popular in both) but at least in English-speaking yuri circles it was the breakout hit that brought in a lot of new readers to the genre. (Which is crazy to think about since it was before Mangadex became the dominant host of scanlated works, so it was primarily released on Tumblr! with only some chapters showing up on Dynasty Reader later.)

And I don't wanna say it was the only game in town back then, as around 2015 was a real golden age of manhwa and manhua popping off with the likes of Her Tale of Shim Chong, What Does the Fox Say? and PULSE. They're all still popular recommendations when people ask for top yuri picks, deservedly so. But as I said, there's something about tgswiiwagaa that reminds me of Tamen de Gushi in particular.

That popularity which lead to fanart, edits and fancams in the English side of the fandom feels kind of important to tgswiiwagaa's future international success. Like it widen the net so when tgswiiwagaa came along with a story that had even more western pop culture touchstones than a manga reader might normally get it was able to scoop up way more fans than ever before.

I think when it comes down to it, It's just nice to see tgswiiwagaa go even further than Tamen de Gushi did. There's been plenty of talk about if tgswiiwagaa will get an anime and/or a live action adaptation, and honestly I hope it gets everything and more! Because just like Tamen de Gushi before it, I know tgswiiwagaa is laying the groundwork's from some other wildly popular yuri that will come to surpass it in the future. And I can't wait to read whatever new stories come out next!

Donald Duck "Mr. Adventurer" Comic Scanlation

First of all, I need to express my gratitude for Quackie @3rdexistence, who volunteered to help me when I sent out a request to give me photos of this comic. Not only did he buy the comic and send me photos of every page, but he also volunteered to scan and translate it into English! This is his first time doing a scanlation, and he did a great job. He even included some additional notes about the original German text. He didn't have to do this at all, and I'm so thankful he was this generous. You're fantastic, Quackie. Go give him some love! He also gave me permission to post this to my blog, so thank you for that!

This is a pretty recent comic -- it came out on May 10th, and I've been super excited to share it.

Now, what is this comic about?

Well, not to spoil anything... Actually I tagged the big surprise, but I'll try to keep it under the cut anyway.

The story is about Donald becoming upset after he discovers a new TV is stealing its plots from his and his nephews' adventures. Convinced the culprit is Uncle Scrooge, his mission to bring the plagiarizer to justice will take him to realizations he never could have expected...

Gladstone also joins in on the adventure, so that's fun!

it looks like mangadex got hit with a large-scale dmca request yesterday and a bunch of works, including the holy grail of eris, were taken down. sad but fair!

right now chapters 61 and 62 are still up (and i'm sure the rest of the series is still available on the usual repost sites) but i don't actually know what this means for translating/ uploading going forward LOL? so i guess the holy grail of eris is on pause for now ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

an incompetent woman wants to be a villainess and the beloved daughter of a crime family are currently unaffected and should still upload as usual. the latter was on hiatus this month, but raws for the former come out next week.

Have you seen RK’s new blogpost about asking folks to stop reposting the blu-ray comics? I’ve seen it’s been a bit controversial, to most fans it is obvious to follow her request, but some are complaining that the Blu-ray’s/dvd boxes are too pricey/hard to find/region locked for her to expect 0 circulation, likening it to “rare material”

Did see, pretty common for authors to make similar requests, will continue to pirate since I can't get them here

I don't see why be mad at her for the request tho she's in the right and we're the ones committing a crime technically. I'm always surprised when people get mad at mangakas complaining about illegal reproduction and piracy as if that's something wrong to request.

I do piracy how I find ethical for myself but trying to impose it to other people when we're both in committing a crime seems silly. My idea is that since they're too new I won't share them to the general internet anymore but I also don't judge people who do

Anyway remember kids whenever you read scanlations watch anime on illegal websites and all that you're pirating, the author asking you to stop it's just them acknowledging the illegal thing you were already doing and don't really change how wrong or right it is since that should be your default assumption

Buy their work legally when available if you want support authors and have more things be available! It's what I do

Hi! Well, I kept a detailed spreadsheet years ago but it's quite outdated at this point and I'm not willing to update it tbh. The most I can show you is a screenshot of the folders which are named after the circles I have djs from with mini covers of the djs I have from each circle inside.

For example, this would be what's inside A.S.A.P's folder.

For obvious reasons I'm not going to sceenshot the contents of each folder, it's just so you can get an idea. These are also outdated, but I found this easier to keep track of the djs than the spreadsheet, so I miiiight update these in the future. No promises though. I had the same system for djs of my other fandoms. And before anyone gets the idea, no, I won't take specific requests to scanlate something from this or that circle.

I recently just started translating Chiruran: Shinsengumi Requiem, Jack the Ripper Case Files, Shuumatsu no Valkyrie and Shuumatsu no Valkyrie: Gods’ Apocalypse under Illiterate Scans on Mangadex formerly known as Nakimov Scanlation.

I read a lot of manga. Currently reading/caught up to Majo Taisen, Record of Ragnarok, Boruto, Apocalypse of the Gods, Dragon Ball Super, Kagurabachi, Black Clover, Chainsaw man, One-Punch man etc

Do I do requests? Depends on the request. If I like the request and it’s not too complicated than I’ll probably do it. If I do ignore, than it means I’m not interested in doing the request. Most of the time I’m usually coming up with the plots but suggestions are always welcome. And yes, asks are always open.

I don’t do crossovers nor would take requests for them.

I only write for cis female readers/OCs. I don’t take requests for gender neutral or male readers, unfortunately I’m not good at writing those.
