Open To Debate Argues Daylight Savings Time & ScienceStuff Launches
Open To Debate Argues Daylight Saving Time
It's that time again, when move our clocks ahead to gain one hour of daylight. The Wikipedia explanation is: Daylight saving time, also referred to as daylight saving, daylight savings time, daylight time, or summer time, is the practice of advancing clocks to make better use of the longer daylight available during summer so that darkness falls at a later clock time.
Yet, this time shift has been shrouded in controversy and disagreement for decades. Currently, President Trump has expressed interest in eliminating Daylight Saving Time, and Congress is considering bills to make the change permanent. Of course, he also said that Ukraine invaded Russia, Gaza would make a wonderful resort as soon as all the inhabitants were removed, and he is a supporter of law and order even though he pardoned 1,500 January 6th criminals.
Are you ready to change the clock on Sunday? Is springing forward or falling back still an idea worth practicing? That's the question the Open to Debate podcast tackles in its new episode, "Is it Time to End Daylight Savings Time?"
Those ready to end Daylight Savings Time argue it is inconvenient and has negative health and productivity effects. Those who want to keep Daylight Savings Time argue the time change’s effects are temporary and help improve our quality of life.
Arguing in favor of Daylight Savings Time: Binyamin Applebaum, Member of the New York Times Editorial Board
Arguing against Daylight Savings Time: Joan Costa-i-Font, Health Economist at the London School of Economics
Emmy award-winning journalist John Donvan moderates.
Watch or listen to the debate at OpentoDebate.org, YouTube, or your podcast platform of choice (under podcast name "Open to Debate").

On a different note, I just noticed that my newsfeed is just messed up. 70% deals with whatever happens in the UK (i do not live there, i do not know why my phone thinks i need to know these things, especially local news from Gloucester? wtf ), 10% is horse-related, another 10% is about Italy (a lot about Meloni or Venezia atm), 5% is sciencestuff and 5% is either about that hateful woman/transpeople issues OR actual news concerning Germany, except from the Pov of another country (maybe UK as well).
#is this because of my accent#its not my fault#my teacher was british#i'm sorry phone#i can try giving you commands in another language if you like that better

Nothing is created and nothing is destroyed. Everything is transformed.
If all the scientists were right
And nothing is created nor destroyed, but instead transformed
That means some things are never truly gone
And in the sky, the smoke from the first fire still lingers
The laughs, the cries, the long conversations under the starlight, words of great thinkers
They're all still there, whether we know it or not
Ringing, echoing, guiding us along
Maybe one day, once we've had a little too many drinks and a little too much to say,
It'll be far, far too much, and the earth will might give away

Okay so there are some preschool-at-home-type-things I’m feeling good about. Like pre-writing and reading skills, early math concepts...but like science? I can barely identify parts of a plant myself much less teach about them so I am BEYOND thankful that Hs teacher has really held our hand with some of this stuff. These are 2 of her ideas that the kids are LOVING: . 1. They put pinto beans in baggies with wet cotton balls. They hung them in a window in our “classroom” and within a week...ta da! So so cool and H is incredibly proud of these! He wants to transfer to our garden...he told me that roots need to be in soil. Will see how that works? I don’t even know. . 2. We’ve been planning this activity for days and our grocery order finally came through with celery. So we are trying blue and green gel food color (all that was left after our last play dough making day) and some crayola bath coloring drops for the red and yellow — not sure it’ll make a difference? But they are BOTH excited to see what happens...cross your fingers and toes that some of the leaves change color for us 😜 . #sciencestuff #scienceforkids #scienceexperimentsforkids https://www.instagram.com/p/B_dl30dFzu8/?igshid=1u2snaexfr5ov

Have you ever heard of MIRROR NEURONS? . “A mirror neuron is a neuron that fires both when an animal acts and when the animal observes the same action performed by another. Thus, the neuron "mirrors" the behavior of the other, as though the observer were itself acting.” . So basically, when someone watches you doing something, they FEEL as if they they are doing it themselves? This is why when you watch someone falling and getting hurt, you can actually FEEL pain yourself. They believe this is where empathy comes from. How does this apply to us as instructors? . When we are dancing, and our participants are watching us, they have a neurons firing in their brain that makes them think that they look and feel the same way we do! . This is why someone who comes to our classes and says “I have two left feet,” can leave still feeling like a million bucks! . What does this mean for us as Zumba Instructors? . We need to watch our attitudes, treatment of others, and emotional state when we are teaching because this will literally be transferred to our students! Feeling annoyed? Feeling insecure? Feeling angry? Feeling competitive? Not wanting to support other instructors? Whether you realize it or not, our students begin to feel that way too! . So what should we do? . Take a moment before class, alone...and check ourselves. Check any attitudes in our heart that we need to get rid of before we go and face a group of people that mirror a lot more than just steps! Make sure you have the ability to be completely free while you dance and will literally give others the ability to do the same. . . . #mirrorneurons #zumbero #sciencestuff #zumba #zin #zumbafitness #zumbanimal #weinspiretheworld #inspiration #motivation #fitness #forthebodyandthesoul (at American Fork, Utah) https://www.instagram.com/p/BynwQNbB_EB/?igshid=2acsktu0x85v

Metallurgy of Rare Metals
A.N. Zelikman, O.E. Krein, G.V. Samsonov (Editors)
Rare metals play an important role in the development of major branches of industry, such as vacuum equipment, semiconductor electronics, nuclear power and rocket production, as well as in the production of special steels and hard, refractory and corrosion-resistant alloys. Rapid development and improvement in the production of rare metals took place in the ten years which have elapsed since the publication of the first edition of this book. These ten years have witnessed the beginning of large-scale production of titanium, zirconium, and germanium, and a significant increase in the production volume; new, improved methods for the separation and purification of metals and compounds (ion-exchange, extraction, crystallization methods) as well as arc and electron-beam melting processes for metals were developed. This made it necessary to rewrite most of this book. In view of the growing importance of the lanthanides and rhenium, chapters on these metals were also included. At the same time, we decided to dispense with the chapters on lead and antimony, since these are not usually listed as rare metals. In describing the metallurgy of each metal, much attention was paid to its physicochemical nature and to the practical operations involved in the main technological processes for the production of its chemical compounds and of the pure metal. This book is a textbook for students specializing in the metallurgy of the rare metals. It is assumed that the student is familiar with the physicochemical fundamentals .of metallurgy, ore dressing, metallurgical furnaces, and processes and apparatus used in extractive metallurgy. The description of standard equipment (leaching apparatus, thickeners, filters, comminution installations, etc.) has accordingly been omitted. The references are grouped together at the end of the book.

For the trope rating thing: Character dies and is "brought back wrong" through occult means or mad sciencestuffs?
1000000000000/10
i love it. i love it so much. the idea that death cannot truly be overturned? facing the consequences of your hubris for thinking that you'd be above that? seeing the lengths some characters go to in order to bring the person back? how it so often comes about out of love? the monstrous? *chef's kiss*
[send me a trope and i'll rate it]
#this has been sitting in my inbox for so long and i have felt shame every time i've looked at it#junebuggeryy#research inquiry
