Alrighty, time to make alot of people mad: you absolutely should not spend money on this game after the sale is completed, because if you do you are funding state-sponsored oppression and murder. This is not just a company based in Saudi Arabia, this is a company owned directly by the national sovereign wealth fund, whose goal, just like any other sovereign wealth fund, is to make money for the country. And money made by Saudi Arabia goes towards chopping hands off of thieves, enforcing guardianship laws against women, and executing political dissidents. I'm not saying that playing the game supports this, I'm saying giving money to it does. And that if you don't want to financially support such actions, you cannot be giving this game any money at all.

Damn, I need another Gholdengo named Scopely now. Heck, a money-grubbing ghoul named after the company that publishes MONOPOLY GO is actually MORE APPROPRIATE.
I got Niantic all wrong in one sense. They're just a bunch of tech bros who want to experiment with AR. They always seemed to be annoyed that Pokemon Go was popular and people wanted to give them money, and now it makes sense. They just wanna play with AR!
They don't wanna be annoyed with stuff like updating the graphics (after seven years) adding new characters (happened maybe twice in eight years) or mixing up the music (only for special occasions!). Make a different studio update the avatars.
Finally, they don't have to worry about Pokemon and the vast yet somehow unsatisfactory amounts of money that it brings them. Finally, they can get back to what they do best: developing AR and its tech fad successor: AI.
*AI bubble pops*
Oops, time for all the executives to grab their fortunes and...GO!

As we move into February, a few updates: first, good news - I started a job as a Senior 2D Artist at Scopely on Monopoly Go (check it out - it's super cute)!! Well, this technically isn't "news," actually - I've been working here since late last year (and it's been wonderful!), but I was holding off announcing it so as to not split attention between that and the release of Carol and the End of the World. Speaking of Carol, since it's been out for about a month and a half now, I'm going to slow down sharing work for a bit -  don't worry, I'll still continue to post work from time-to-time as well as share other artists' work/fanart, but I just don't want my followers to start feeling Carol-fatigue. Lastly, speaking of fatigue, since Carol released during the holidays, I never actually got around to taking my usual holiday break from posting art... and not gonna lie, I'm beat, so I'll be taking a belated holiday break now! Thanks for your patience, see you in about a month or so, and if you find yourself missing me, consider throwing on Carol and the End of the World on Netflix!

Dundee's Tag Games Acquired By Scopely
Tag Games acquired by games giant Scopely. Dundee mobile games studio Tag Games has been acquired by 'mobile first' publisher Scopely.
Tag Games, the Dundee studio which is behind some of the world’s largest mobile titles, including Pocket Mortys, CSR2, Prison Architect, Angry Birds Action, and more, has been acquired by ‘mobile-first’ publisher Scopely. In 2021, Tag was one of three European Studios to split around $50 million in funding from the growing games giant, to work on as yet undisclosed game. News broke this morning…

A Quick Word about Pokémon Go 03
We interrupt our regular schedule this week to address breaking news and bring “a quick word about Pokémon Go” that somehow ballooned out to 3,000 words. Sorry! I have a lot to say! The FGC resumes as normal next week with Blade Chimera. In the meanwhile… As of this Wednesday, Scopely has bought Niantic’s gaming division, which includes Pokémon Go. I have… concerns. Pokémon Go has been good to…

Glad to hear that Peridot isn't going to Scopely. After hearing about other games they own, I don't want them to mess with Peridot. Plus I remember them running those Monopoly Go ads I'd see on the mobile version of Tumblr that had way too much flashing (reported them for that a number of times).

Why is Niantic Selling Pokemon Go? To Jump on the AI Bandwagon of Course!
It slipped out last week that Niantic was in talks to sell their one and only massive success as a company to Scopely, who runs titles like Marvel Strike Force and Star Trek Fleet Command.  Players were immediately concerned about what impact that might have on Pokemon Go, as though one exploitive publisher would be more than a degree or two different from another. Pokemon Gone! It isn’t as…

Niantic in Talks to Sell Gaming Division for $3.5 Billion to Saudi-Backed Company
Niantic Inc., the company behind Pokémon Go, is reportedly negotiating to sell its gaming division to Scopely Inc., a Saudi Arabia-backed gaming company, in a deal valued at approximately $3.5 billion. The potential sale marks a significant moment for the San Francisco-based developer, which has been operating independently since its separation from Google in 2015. According to Bloomberg reports,…

GYGO Mobile: Another Excuse to Talk About Pop Stars
Hello, mobile gamers! I have been taking a break from mobile games lately in favor of… reading. Every now and then I have to question whether the things I’m doing on my phone are actually bringing me any joy, and it turns out that Longleaf Valley was not, in fact, bringing me any joy, so I put a bunch of books on hold on Libby and have been reading in my idle moments instead. The fun thing about…
