something so sweet and hilarious about the fact that varric apparently wrote to every single person he liked and trusted that 'hey I found this strange little raccoon creature who pisses everyone off in a dumpster out here and I really like their vibe I think we might save this world yet👍'

in the next mission impossible movie there better be a scene where the one (1) female agent they have has to seduce/flirt with a guy to get information out of him except when she tries, he makes it clear he’s not interested and says something implying he’s gay. so she walks away and into the comms tells the team it didn’t work because “i’m not his type.” then we get semi-frustrated team members telling her “well then become his type, we need the info” etc only for her to interrupt with “i think one of you boys will have a better chance.” then the comms go silent and it cuts to each team member’s reaction of “😳” and the “oh”s as they realize he’s gay. except when it cuts to ethan’s reaction, he’s already sauntering over to the guy and we just hear him say “i’m on it” and then we get scenes of ethan seducing the bad guy and he gets to gay kiss him. if this doesn’t happen i will riot

Nonacearo week prompt 3: Handling a romantic confession
James weeded the garden, dirt smeared along the borrowed gardening gloves he wore, kneeling on the soft grass beneath the spring sky. His trowel delicately dug around in the soil, loosening the unwanted plants. Carefully, he tossed aside an intruder near the bupleurum rotundifolium, which were dotted with small blooms. The flowerbeds had not been not poorly maintained when he first found them, but he thought they must have been the work of Harold Anderson rather than any hired hands.
“Can I help?” Mika’s voice came from behind him, and he turned, then stood slowly, stretching out the stiffness from staying in place for so long.
“Of course, miss.” James offered a polite smile. “The watering can is just over there.” With his full hand, he gestured towards the ladder, closed and leaning on the storage shed.
“Great!” She made her way over, stepping over the collection of discarded weeds, before coming back, holding the can with both hands. “Here it is!”
“I’m nearly done with the weeding, which should be the last of the tasks before watering for today.” Lowering himself again, he lifted a few dangling leaves to look under them. In comfortable silence, he returned to clearing out the flowerbed.
He enjoyed caring for the flowers, he had found out from his time in the human world. Their velvety petals and scent were astonishingly fragile, something drastically different from the Abyssal Plains, and they reminded him that he was now free from his earlier life. They were colorful and incredibly varied, and the study’s collection on flora had shown him many different plants he could try to cultivate in the future. Perhaps once he found a sufficient permanent home for him and his brothers, he could indulge and stop by a gardening store.
His meditative musing was interrupted by Mika, who asked, “Since you’ve been here a while, do you have a favorite in the garden?”
Discarding the last removed weed, he rose to his feet and looked over the blooms. “I’m quite fond of the calendula officinalis; I enjoy their vibrancy.” They also seemed simple to grow, based on the gardening books he had read, so he felt comfortable maintaining them.
“Which one are those?”
James inclined his head towards the left of his workspace. “They’re the orange ones.” He faced Mika, who had sat down on the grass, knees folded in front of her body.
“Oh, they’re pretty!”
James smiled, a true one, his eyes soft and voice warm with delight. “They’re quite beautiful.”
Mika’s eyes flicked from the flowers back towards him, looking over him, and James instinctively felt himself straighten, his relaxed slip-up replaced by cordial distance. As kind as she had been to them, James struggled to trust her, with decades of political maneuvering and war having made him exceedingly cautious.
“Would you like to water the plants while I dispose of the weeds, miss?”
“Oh, yeah, for sure!” Mika hopped up from her seat, grabbing the watering can and making her way towards the flowerbeds.
James watched her as he picked up the pile he had created and was pleased as she watered the soil and roots rather than pouring over the leaves. He had shown her how to properly care for the garden before and seeing his lessons in action felt satisfying. Another experience he could chalk up to the human world, he noted. He threw the weeds into the exterior bin, not wanting to sort the viable ones for composting at the moment. Returning to Mika, he let her finish the task, waiting until she was done before comment.
“Nice work,” he opened his hand for the watering can, which she passed over to him. “I’ll return the equipment to the storage shed, so-”
“I’ll come with you!” Mika nearly tripped over her words, reminding him a bit of an overexcited Matthew.
“…As you wish.” Picking up the gardening tools, he piled them within his arms before walking towards the shed.
Mika dashed ahead and opened the door, which swung inwards, and she awkwardly held it open for him.
“Thank you, miss.” James stepped into the shed, which always smelled faintly of dust and wood, no matter how diligently he cleaned it. He meticulously began to place everything in its proper place, adhering to the order he had first found them in. The trowel hung on the hook, the gloves went in the cubbyhole…
Having organized appropriately, James briefly admired his handiwork before exiting, not wanting to leave Mika at the door. He placed his hand on the door, and she moved away, allowing him to close it behind him. He fished the shed lock out from his pocket.
“I, uh…” Mika’s voice was a bit timid, but she pressed on. “I came looking for you, actually, since I wanted to talk about something.”
James’s eyes slid over to her as he held the lock in his head. “With me?” His voice was as diplomatic as ever, hiding the knot that formed in his stomach at the words. He pressed his worries down, waiting for her to elaborate.
“Yeah,” she let out a small, nervous laugh, “I’ve been thinking a lot and…”
James felt tense, the gaps between her words only furthering the alarm bells in his head. Had one of his brothers accidentally done something to offend her? Or perhaps she was dissatisfied with him? He had tried to minimize the times he fed off her, keeping himself restrained to kissing when he was feeling particularly needy, but providing for multiple incubi could have proven to be too demanding.
“I like you.” Mika finished, threading her fingers and fiddling nervously.
“Pardon?” He hadn’t meant to say it aloud, but the statement caught him off guard. She… liked him? Though mildly reassuring, he wasn’t particularly sure how it related to her jittery behavior. Quickly, he flipped through his knowledge of humans, realizing he must be missing something.
“I like you.”
Liking, friendship, affection… He sorted through topics, trying to piece together what implication he was failing to grasp. Suddenly, it came in a flash. Love and Romance: A study of intimacy. He had read the book a while ago, attempting to improve his cultural understanding of humans as well as academic, and it had covered the use of word “like” to indicate romantic interest, among other meanings.
He opened the lock, hands shaking slightly, as he looked away from her. “Miss,” he started, then clamped his mouth shut, unsure of how he wanted to reply. Did he want to reject her? He knew he, like all demons, lacked love as humans conceptualized it, and would be unable to reciprocate her feelings. But what would it mean if he refused her? A current of fear passed over him as he reviewed the possible consequences. Would he still be allowed to stay in her home? Would his brothers? The only other person he could think of that could help him was Kay, the strange witch Harold had procured their human identities from, but he wasn’t sure how to contact her.
The silence stretched uncomfortably, and James realized he needed to say something. Forcing his voice to be level, he clicked the lock onto the door as he spoke, “I would like to make sure I adequately understand your statement.” Formality was his refuge as he desperately hid his panic from her, hoping the slight waver in his voice went unnoticed. “Do you mean in a general sense or romantically?”
“Romantically.”
Her voice was clear this time. Perhaps opening the discussion had resolved her, much like ‘ripping the bandaid off’, as he had heard her say once. Unfortunately, though she seemed less nervous, his worry had skyrocketed. He knew he could likely figure out how to take care of himself alone, but if this affected his brothers, he was unsure he could manage; finding one person who agreed to house five demons was an incredible stroke of luck, one he was not sure would happen again.
Dishonesty was an option, but he doubted his ability to perform his role properly. Acting had always been Erik’s specialty, not his, and the gaps in his knowledge felt too large to bridge. He knew little of human relations, of their courtship etiquette, of even intimacy. Attempting to mimic reciprocation may be more likely to hurt Mika than turning her down, and could be seen as a betrayal of her extensive generosity towards him.
“I see.” Despite the warm day, he felt cold, and he swallowed, realizing his mouth was dry. He tried to collect his thoughts, but they slipped out of reach, leaving his mind feeling overcrowded. He felt stuck, with no correct answer for him in sight. James felt his breath sticking in his throat as he spoke.
“Wh…” Why are you telling me this, he wanted to ask, but did dare not to. He cleared his throat, forcing the words back down.
“As I’ve mentioned before,” he finally looked back at her, trying to take in Mika’s expression to adjust if necessary. “demons are different in a few ways compared to humans…”
He stared at her, evaluating. She seemed unsurprised, but was nibbling lightly at her lip, though he wasn’t certain if it was from worry or displeasure. He cautiously continued, “…we understand lust, passion, and care, but love is outside of our emotional range.”
James was gently reiterating their conversation in the study, internally begging her to understand, to accept what he was saying. We don’t really experience love, he had said, but it appeared Mika had not truly grasped what that meant. Or perhaps she did not care, a small, treacherous part of him thought. Searching her face, he saw her blink a few times, and he vainly hoped the wetness was his imagination.
“May I ask… if you desired a romance?” James asked the question, almost accidentally, but he wanted to comprehend, to ascertain what she wanted from him. And whether he thought he could give it to her.
“I don’t… I don’t know? I didn’t think that far ahead.” Mika’s voice was strained, and James knew his statement had upset her. “I just wanted to tell you? To talk about it.”
James felt his heart twist as a slight hum of anger echoed in his head. How shallow, he thought, then crushed it. Mika was young, he reminded himself, even younger than Damien. She had lived less than a quarter of his lifetime; he should prioritize being patient with her. Keeping that thought, he observed her, noting the slump of her shoulders, the way she fixed her gaze on the ground. Hurt, sad, but not angry. A slight rush of relief ran through him; he could manage appeasing dejection. As long as he avoided her ire, it seemed probable he could continue to seek shelter here.
“I’m sorry,” James lied, the words coming easily despite his discomfort. His nature was not shameful, nor a cause of guilt, but he knew that apologies could help smooth things over. He made a note to arrange an outing with Erik at some point; though getting energy from strangers was far more difficult with humans than in the Abyssal Plains, he should try to sate himself outside of the mansion for the time being, as physical affection with Mika may cause further issues.
“It’s…” Mika’s voice was shaky, “It’s okay.” She was also lying, he knew, but her feelings would probably resolve with time. She shifted her feet, then raised her head, but refused to meet his eyes. “I… think I’m going to head to my room for a bit.”
James nodded, though she wouldn’t see it. “Will you be joining us for dinner, or should Damien bring it to your room, miss?” Damien was the smartest choice; his mind reading helped him react quickly and he wouldn’t say anything uncalled for as a result.
“Oh, um,” she took a second to process the question, her shoulders trembling faintly. “Damien, please.”
“I understand.”
“Thanks,” Mika’s breath was shaky, but she choked out “See you later,” before walking back towards the mansion.
James exhaled and closed his eyes once she had left. See you later, she had said, and that meant they still had a place to reside within. He stiffly headed towards the flowerbeds, sitting in front of them. Gently, he reached out towards the orange blooms, barely touching the petals, He would head inside after a few minutes, but he wanted to make sure his earlier anxiety had faded before preparing dinner, as Erik could be highly perceptive when he felt the desire to be. Admiring the flowers, he considered adding others to the bed, remembering a few from the illustrated guide he had found, which he had taken to his room rather than shelving back in the library. Tulipa turkestanica would be nice…
He eventually rose from the garden, returning to the Anderson manor. He wanted to see his brothers, to have a nice dinner with them as they were never able to in the Abyssal Plains. The human world may have its own difficulties, but being able to truly spend time with them was invaluable. Fleeing his home was worth it, without question, for his brothers to be safe, away from slaughter, their father, and the painful memories that haunted them. James felt immense gratitude towards the Anderson family for the help they had provided, enough that it could overwhelm him, for allowing him the chance to build a home. Tonight, he would indulge his family, he promised, perhaps even participate in that digital game with the small vehicles Matthew had been trying to convince them to play. James smiled as he entered the kitchen, putting the earlier conversation out of his mind. To care so deeply, so openly for the meaningful people in his life was such a great source of joy that he could never sacrifice again. Come devil or succubus, James would hold onto this present and future with every fiber of his being.

Anakin as Obi-Wan's Campaign Manager?? Say more right now please!
correction - anakin (19yo) as obi-wan (35yo)'s nonconsensual campaign manager
here's a bit more! all just set up, i have no idea what i want out of this fic yet word-count wise. structure wise. etc.
The Kenobi thing happens accidentally, honestly. Anakin isn’t even sure how he got into it, but at the end of September, Padmé had mentioned how formative canvassing had been to her own political outlook, how impactful it had been to help out on a campaign, and Anakin had thought—that’s it. I can do that, and then she'll see we have things in common and then she'll fall in love with me. And that night, he’d gone to his apartment and researched upcoming local elections. He’d found the list of people running for the city council, and he’d chosen one at a random. Obi-Wan Kenobi was thirty-five and up for re-election. He’d first been elected four years ago, at thirty-one, one of the youngest city councilmen in the history of Coruscant, running—as far as Anakin could tell—on the issue of city infrastructure and misuse and diversion of funds away from public goods like pothole-less roads to drive on. Even just reading the summary on the guy’s past campaign had been boring as hell, but he’d won, is the thing. He’d won, which means he has a good shot of winning it again, which would make it incredibly easy to help him along. Not many people vote in city council elections—fact. Not many people vote for names they don’t recognize, and they have a higher chance of recognizing an incumbent’s name over a challenger’s—fact. It’s only impressive to canvas for a campaign if the guy you’re canvassing for is elected—fact. So Obi-Wan Kenobi was a safe choice. A stellar choice. Anakin hit the books that weekend, printed out a bunch of blurbs on what the guy’s done—apparently it’s been mostly advocating for filling in potholes on what Anakin would bet his tuition money on is the guy’s commute to work—and hit the streets to drum up support for him. The election is in the middle of November, and today is October 2nd. Half the doors Anakin knocks on remain unopened, a fourth are closed in his face, and the remaining percentage are either not registered to vote or seem lukewarm to the idea of voting in a city council election at all. Three different elderly ladies have asked him if Kenobi is running for president. Hell, next time he’s just going to say yes. —--------- But Ahsoka isn’t wrong. Anakin hates to admit it, but he knows he has to. She’s not wrong. Something needs to change in his strategy because he’s not getting the numbers he needs. Honestly, this whole adventure has made him lose faith in the effectiveness of democracy. Maybe dictatorships aren’t so bad. It’s not like these people are voting anyway. He’s smart enough to keep this observation to himself, of course, but he wonders what could have been so eye-opening about Padmé’s time canvassing when Anakin’s having a hard enough time making this whole thing door-opening.

scummy floyb is so beloved,,, I think about sleazy all the time bc it was so hot to me idk why,,, floyd calling reader a good girl may or may not have rewired by brain chemistry 😵‍💫
so when you say fwb floyb I immediately jump to scummy floyb (I miss my wife 😔) but all the concepts sound so good!! Mersex with captive Floyd orz orz orz
-🦈
Sleazy has a fond place in my heart. <3 there's something so yummy about that concept. Maybe it's because that scene is intended to be part of a larger work. >:D aaaaaaaa Floyd calling you "good girl" also does something to me. 🫣 in a low, raspy voice as well... I love scummy, sleazy Floyb. ( ꈍ◡ꈍ)
I might explore that fwb concept more, but mer sex is also quite tempting...... I had a lot of fun writing it with Jade in his fwb fic, so I need to write it with Floyd at some point. Omg and then there's the blessing that is summer Floyb!!!!! OTL
I love the idea of Floyd not realizing he's in love when he's so deep in the fwb. He's doing all of these things that make him feel like less of a fuck buddy and more of a boyfriend, but both of you refuse to recognize and acknowledge that. You keep telling everyone you're not a couple; you're not even all that close (yes, you are). Floyd's just pussy-drunk, not in love. Definitely not!!!

Since Miraculous Ladybug is becoming for more mature audiences it should split povs between Marinette and Adrien. Its upsetting how Adrien has such a main character backstory yet he's not apart of it or a major character in the show even though he feels like it. It feels like he should be Marinette's costar but he's treated as some guy most of the time. I get that Marinette's the main character but still Adrien feels so wasted on. Honestly he kinda reminds me of Steven Universe. Dead mom, complex with not being entirely human, well meaning but absent dad(Gabriel's hearts was in the right place but just went down hill). Like when Adrien finds out about the whole sentimonster thing imagine the identity crisis he's gonna have. I also wonder what they're gonna do with Emilie. She's not dead anymore and she was the driving force for why Gabriel did what he did. I wonder if she's gonna be a good mom or if the fan theories are right and she's just as bad if not worse then Gabriel. Rose haunted the narrative because she was so important if it wasn't for her and her actions we probably wouldn't even have Steven Universe or the many momswap aus. But after Gabriel got all the Miraculouses Emilie felt kinda of forgotten and last minute when she was talked about.
Are there any other shows that you sometimes compare Miraculous too?
I don't think that Miraculous is aiming at more mature audiences now unless there was some announcement that I missed? If anything, I'm expecting season six to tone things back down because I'm guessing that it's going to be a soft reboot. New main villain, new animation style, new school, the signs are all there.
Shows rarely ever change their target audience like that. It's just too risky a move. You have to redo the marketing and somehow convey to parents that the show is no longer safe for their child as it's aimed at teens now. But anyone who wants a more serious show for teens isn't going to want to sit through the first five seasons which were not written like a serious show for teens, so the audience for this would be the small subsection of viewers who want to watch their childhood favorite get more serious.
While that's certainly a demographic, it's not the massive one you get when you stick to anyone ages five-and-up. Since five-and-up is also where the toy sales are and Miraculous has a lot of tie-in toys, it would be pretty wild if they abandoned that demographic at this point. I dug up an old tweet that I remembered seeing to give my warning some extra backing. For full context, this was in reply to a tweet asking if the writers consider the teen audience when writing the show:
Tumblr media
[Image description: a tweet from the show's head writer reading "they are not the primary audience. The main target is kids 5 to 12 max. It doesn't mean we don't consider older audiences. But it means that whatever we write must not leave the kids behind."]
This tweet is admittedly over two years old and anything is technically possible, but I would strongly caution you against having expectations for more serious content unless you know something that I don't. The show was originally sold to investors, distributors, and so on as a kids show and, unless they were able to renegotiate those agreements, it's going to stay a kids show.
I'd also caution you against assuming that Emilie is alive. I thought that was where the show went, too, but statements from the writers have made it pretty clear that Emilie is well and truly dead, which further supports my soft reboot theory. Bringing her back means a stronger tie to the previous seasons and you don't want that for a soft reboot.
Please don't read this as me praising that writing choice! I think it was stupid as hell to magically bring back Nathalie while killing off Emilie. They were both dying and only one of them is a domestic terrorist who actively chose death by knowingly using the broken Miraculous. The other is a Good And Pure Soul Who Was Too Perfect For This Cruel World (or, at least, that's what the show seems to want us to think). Plus, if you're going to use the wish, do something big! Change the status quo! But that's not how formula shows work so they probably couldn't do that.
Quick side note: this is my best guess as to why the leaked scripts indicated that Emilie was going to come back when season five ended the show. Series finales are usually allowed include elements that would ruin the formula if the show continued because the show isn't continuing. Season finales are not allowed to do that because the next season needs to stick to the same formula. When season five went from end-of-show to a mere end-of-season, that probably signed Emilie's death warrant. Sorry Adrien, no happy ending for you! Hope you like being an orphan!
Moving on!
In my opinion, it feels like they only used the wish to let Gabriel die and get rid of Emilie without it being too traumatic for the indented audience, but it's still basically a murder suicide being treated as a happy ending which is wild! At least it was a pretty one where the murderer and his victim ascended into the light?
We admittedly might see larger impacts from the wish next season as we don't explicitly know what the wish was, but have they ever let a season finale lead to something interesting? Not really, so I don't see why that would change now. I'm not even sure if Adrien's sentistatus is going to come up again. It should, but it may also just fizzle out because the writers don't know how to deal with it. The sentimonster thing is not the kind of plot point that you can handle in 20 minutes, especially when you have to include some sort of akuma fight, too. Bringing up the sentistuff would also complicate a soft reboot so, yeah, I have no idea if they're ever going to touch it again.
As far as recs for shows like Miraculous go, I'm afraid that you'll have to be a little more specific about what you're looking for because Miraculous is trying and failing to be a lot of things. If you want a duo show with a lot of banter, a badass female lead, and a goofy-but-narratively-important male lead, then I'd point to Kim Possible. If you want a team show with romantic undertones, then Teen Titans is a good pick. If you want identity shenanigans, magic, and romance, then American Dragon Jake Long might be worth checking out in spite of the very dated slang, though fair warning that one is enemies to lovers. It's done in a very fun way, but it's not a partner show like Miraculous kind of is and the romance is also not the main focus.
Part of the reason I was drawn to Miraculous is that shows about superheroes don't tend to have a strong romance element to them, so there aren't a ton of options for me to give you when it come to shows that fill a similar niche. However, if you're willing to go into the realms of fanfic, then you've got a wealth of options. Pretty much any property with secret identities will have fics about identity shenanigan romances. Love squares are nothing new. I've been reading them for years! I basically watched Twelfth Night when I was about eight and never looked back. Identity shenanigans or bust!
People will even bring them into fandoms that don't have any secret identities because identity shenanigans are really fun to play with! They make for some of the best romances. I'm sure that you can also find them in novels, but it's not something I've seen a lot of, so I mostly stick to fanfic for my identity shenanigan needs. That's where almost all my recs are from.
Should I do a fanfic plug to demonstrate what I mean? Yeah, why not. This baby deserves more readers and, if you like Miraculous, then you'll probably love this. (Seriously, if you read it, feel free to come talk to me about it. It's so good and also proof that I really am drawn to very specific tropes. What can I say other than I know what I like?)
We Didn't Start The Fire by ohhgingersnaps
Ava is all burned out, literally— she’s an exhausted JojaCo employee by daylight, and pyrokinetic superhero The Phoenix by moonlight, until she accidentally starts a fire at work and has to blame it on her superpowered alter-ego to avoid being discovered. The Phoenix is forced into early retirement, and with nothing else to lose, Ava moves to her grandfather’s old farm for a new start. Between restoring the farm, resolutely bottling all of her feelings, and trying to keep her powers under wraps, Ava has a lot on her plate. She’ll figure it out. Eventually. She hopes. Meanwhile, the hacker Memento, Phoenix’s good friend and confidant, is left to pick up the pieces alone after her sudden disappearance. He’s fully convinced that she didn’t start the fire, and he’s determined to discover the truth and clear her name... As long as he doesn’t fall for the pretty new farmer down the road, first. Part superhero AU, part mental health recovery arc, and part rom-com, topped with a generous serving of secret identity love square shenanigans, hurt/comfort, shameless flirting and banter, and dramatic irony.
I've mentioned before that I don't like OC main characters. Video games are the one exception to that rule. I'm really not big on reader inserts (no judgement, just personal preference), so when I read fanfic for a video game with a self-insert type main character, I'm looking to read about people's fully developed OCs, but I also want a good deal of the focus to be on the game's characters as they're the only reason I'm looking for stuff to read. That's what this fic is and I love it!
I also wouldn't normally rec fanfic for properties outside of Miraculous since this is specifically a Miraculous blog, but this is Stardew Valley fanfic, which is why I picked it over fic from other, more complex properties. If you don't know that game, it's a farming sim whose cast is developed enough for you to get attached to them, but who don't have a ton of depth, so you can read this sucker without having touched the game because there's no deep lore here. The game dev is apparently pretty open about the fact that he kept lots of things about the characters ambiguous so you could read things like their relationships and ages in whatever way makes you happy. Only prep work I might recommend is reading the character summaries from the game's wiki and you'd only need to do that for the named characters.
As I said above, fics like this are where I get my more-serious-story-with-identity-shenanigan-included itch scratched and are what I'd recommend looking for in either fanfic or original fiction form if that's what you like as TV shows just don't seem to have this kind of content, probably because TV shows often draw plot lines out to maximize views while novel-style stories generally have a clear end goal, which is why it can be hard for TV romances to feel satisfying. However, there are certainly a ton of TV shows that I haven't watched, so if anyone has recs for anon, then feel free to drop a comment or give this a reblog with your rec list.

I was reading the Orphic Argonautica last night and the author has mentioned the various methods of divination Apollo knows and guess what? One of them is prophesying by studying the entrails of organisms. As soon as I read that I was reminded of your headcanon of Apollo being into hepatoscopy for divination and I giggled.
Awww 😳😳It's so nice of you to think of me!
Hehe, so fun fact, the overall practice of divination by studying the entrails of animals (including blood, lungs, intestines and so forth) is extispicy while hepatoscopy is specifically using the liver in prophecy and divination readings.
If, like magic in old text exactly like the sort Medea is described as using, the types of divination spoken about in the texts are reflections of the popular divination cultures of the time, I much rather prefer ascribing those to Apollo than I do some vague, somewhat mysterious power which he uses to see the will of the fates, especially since it's mentioned a few times that he'll teach his sons the language of the birds and how to read their signs and so on and so forth.
In short: HEPATOSCOPY APOLLO IS COOL!! HE'S SO NEAT!! Apollo at the altar who predicts the coming droughts and famines from the entrails of his flock!! It's just such a neat little image (to me)!
Also the Orphic Argonautica bangs, genuinely I hope you enjoy it! Orpheus is an insane man and I do not think him along with the collective subspecies of mythical man known as 'sons of Apollo' get enough credit for how truly unhinged they are at any given point in time.
#ginger answers asks#It's so sweet of you to think of me uuuu#If we treat Apollo's prophecy the same we treat say Aphrodite's rituals in the Iliad#Where in Book 14 I think? Hera asks for her help in creating something that will ultimately help her seduce Zeus#And how that reflects on the very big enchantment and amuletting culture where people would use#cosmetics necklaces belts even knots that they hid in their pockets#together with words of affirmation and some ritualistic method like saying a spell three/seven times#in order to inflict some kind of effect on themselves or their betters#then I think it's entirely fair to ascribe the divination rituals of the day to Apollo in place of mystical visions that don't usually#follow any kind of process to induce despite the process of the Oracle itself being highly regimented#Or course the natural rebuttal is 'well Apollo is the god of prophecy why would he have to do any rituals to use his power'#and my answer to that is Apollo is the god of orating fate but he doesn't create Fate itself that's the work of his father and the Fates#So long as Apollo is appealling to powers older than himself the natural course of action is to pray and be supplicant imo#And well Apollo is nothing if not a filial son#Anyway it's still just a personal headcanon of mine I'm really glad <33#I would gladly be known as That one guy on tumblr that really likes making Apollo hold sheep livers#Everyone should have their Apollo hold a sheep liver at least once. For enrichment#greek mythology#apollo
