Seen while reading yesterday and I’m stunned!

Polishing my shoes is a job I enjoy. One of those mindless tasks that takes me away to a quiet place where I don’t need to think about anything. I hope this doesn’t happen here!

What a great opening paragraph....

You put two things together that have not been together before. And the world is changed. People may not notice at the time, but that doesn't matter. The world has been changed nonetheless.

Have a dark night. Turn off the lights and use candles! 

This could be nice - dinner by candle light, watch a movie by candle light or just sit and chat by the comforting glow.

Love it. Use it. Lose it.

These six words were the best words in the whole book! Everything else has already been said by every other - expert - on the subject.

I've seen many mantras for this type of thing and they usually sound a bit twee. I like this one. This one I could bring myself to say.

It was a book about decluttering - Living with Less by Mary Lambert.

I’ve just read something that’s made me want to start collecting - opening lines from books. They make a huge difference in how a book feels to me, so why have I never thought of doing this before!

I used to love saving up when I was a kid. We each had a glass jar and would saved all year. That was back in the days of pennies, threepences and sixpences. They were about the only coins we got our hands on as kids! It was wonderful to gloat over our jars and watch them slowly fill up, made me feel important. There were two main goals - the first was the Annual Show and the second was Christmas. Amazing what a couple of pounds used to buy!

Spotted this in a recent “Ideas” magazine and it made me smile.

Read the two excerpts together, as one. 

They appeared on two pages hence the two photos. 

The Diary of a Bookseller by Shaun Bythell was such a fun book, I really enjoyed it! After looking him and the bookshop up, on Google, I’m going there if I ever get to Scotland!
