I hope some people will like todays post. The coming days I'm going to draw a couple of finished semirealistic faces from this view. Every Sunday I'll post a new tutorial with a new face angle. Next Sunday will be side face, and then I'm going to draw a couple of side face drawings. I haven't decided yet if I'm going to do 9 or twelve different face angles. I'm also going to end each week with how the eyes, mouth and nose look from that angle.

I think this is going to be a fun and engaging way for me to keep to my practice, and if I'm lucky, someone might want to practice with me.

every video i see either like "dont worry about it just copy a photo" (which i hate doing since i dont have a realistic art style) "draw a line and go from there" (unhelpful) or some two hour long rant about how to draw that makes no sense (plus its usually for a realistic art style) smh my head i hate how most tutorials are always for realistic or semirealistic art styles it makes it almost impossible to draw cartoonish since if you dont know how to do something you alwasys have to figure it out urself, copy someone else (bad), or try to translate a semirealistic or realistic art style video/refrence (which takes way too much work)

thank you! i learned a lot by doing photo studies to learn basic face proportions / anatomy as well as the typical coloring of different skin types. at least in my opinion, it is VERY important to first learn the foundations of realism before delving into stylized art. call me a stickler for traditionalism, but i think stylized art really gets its OOMPH factor from its groundings in reality. as for learning realistic color patterns, color pick from the reference if you need to for the first few paintings, but after that you may be able to kinda get a gut feeling for what colors go where! but be patient with yourself—art is tricky af and sometimes it will take a long time for the techniques to really sink in.

in my experience, after a couple of months of doing purely photostudy paintings, i began to branch out to exploring my style and adopting both the features I enjoyed from realism and the features I enjoyed from stylistic artwork.

also, sometimes it helps if i begin drawing without a preliminary sketch! so, just put down some blobs of color and begin laying out facial features / erasing away the extra stuff when you need to. in my experience, it feels so much more freeing and relaxing to do because it negates a lot of the left-brain feedback that hinders creativity. i hope this helps! i can also post some of my tutorial stuff that i have from instagram if you are interested!

Cloud Strife Pencil Drawing

A while ago I saw trailers of the Final Fantasy VII remake and was immediately amazed by the beautiful graphics. Then I somehow lost track of it. About two weeks ago I randomly found out that it soon had it's release. I watched the story and I really liked a lot of the characters and just had to draw Cloud:)

I really wasn't sure if I would be able to draw Cloud because I am not used to draw in semirealsitic style and his hair looked difficult too but I just really wanted to draw himxD After some initial difficulties and using tutorials and watching speedpaints, it worked really well. I really enjoyed to draw so many different textures with only a HB pencil, an eraser and a blending stump. For the textile texture I used the pattern of a cap as reference. In the shading process, I accidently blurred the face and parts of the hair and it was quite difficult to restore it. I never would have thought that I could draw like thatxD Drawing Cloud gave me more confidence in my drawing skills:) I will probably continue to draw semirealstic or at least with a more semirealistic touch.

This Ignoct-piece I drew for the sleep prompt for Ignoctweek 2017. I was just so happy how the entity of the pic came out. It’s one of the rare occasions things went even better than I envisioned them to.

Then we have the semirealistic try on Brotherhood!Ignis I did with the help of a tutorial from @kirakanjo. I was surprised what I could do with a little explanatory help.

Shining Ambitions veiled in Dust. Okay. I had to include this, even though it’s long from finished. It’s the thing that started in my head, the first AU I ever really had for any fandom and the story that made me jump down the cliff and start writing. I’m still trying to get better every day but this really is my baby.

Misery beyond expectation. We all love a good dose of Angst and this was my first real attempt. I remember feeling really emotionally shook when writing this.

The tale of ice and fire, a fairytale kind of story surrounding the Astrals. A rare non-Ignoct. Somehow the wording went well this this one. A bit antique and dusty for a slightly kitschy lovestory between Shiva and Ifrit, but I like it a lot.
