I'd love to hear your thought's on Max's recent promo, if you wanna share

I think that the story Max Caster is trying to tell has two major themes, both of which have connections to his actual life.

The first and most obvious is: When do you quit your life's dream, if you keep failing at it?

He says it in the most recent promo itself. He's the only one that believes in himself at this point. On one hand, it seems incredibly delusional. He's losing every week. Badly. As the camera guy himself points out, he hasn't won since the last presidency- when he was still part of The Acclaimed.

On the other hand...isn't Working Hard and Never Giving Up one of THE traits of being a babyface in American wrestling? I think that's one of the reasons people have started actually chanting for him. The camera guy says they never chase down losers like this but how can they not, when Max is one of the most interesting things on the show right now?

This isn't the first time he's "failed" at wrestling, either. The newest album released on his bandcamp are tracks he wrote 2017-2019, during what I guess we could call his first Flop Era. He'd had a string of bad luck at the time. A serious knee and jaw injury from slipping in the ring, and getting dumped by his gf, led him to spiral into a truly dark mental space.

And what seemed to help lift him out of his severe depression actually WAS his egotism! He is very self aware about the fact that his narcissism is a coping mechanism lol. (He raps about it in his Quarantine Demo album).

Which is why this line:

I got dropped on my head, it hurts. I lost again, it hurts. Every day I wake up HURT, and I tell myself that I'm the best.

is so poignant to me. Convincing himself that he's the best is the only thing that keeps him going in life.

But! I think there is a second, more hidden meaning to this video! Something I have privately coined "The public hellishness of Max Caster's existence."

Within the first minute of the promo video, directly after taking what is possibly his most embarrassing loss yet, Max Caster:

-Is chased down by the cameraman

-Therefore cannot avoid leaning over to throw up while on camera

-Is then catcalled by several female security guards and called out to by a well meaning fan, despite clearly being in distress

I don't think that last part was scripted, but BOY does it tie into the complaints he's made about being objectified in his more recent music. Like, admittedly, when I first heard those complaints I kinda rolled my eyes because oh, the super sexual super hot guy is getting objectified now? You don't say! But having seen what must be a fraction of the weekly bullshit he has to put up with, I get it now! It fucking sucks to be reduced to that when going through it!

And speaking of going through it- imagine if YOUR repeated, embarrassing failures at achieving your dreams were broadcast worldwide for people to laugh at. I don't think that the cameraman talking to him as a cameraman, or Max reaching to pull the boom mic into the frame, were a coincidence. I think they are deliberately calling attention to the camera, the artifice of television, which Max is trying to escape from.

And if you think that's a reach, this is the album cover for Streaming on Max, which was released at the very start of his current storyline.

tl;dr Max is drawing from his experiences with failure and the inherent dehumanization that comes from being on TV. Literal cinema!

The man with the tattoos fucks him deeper, harder still, faltering just a little as he finishes inside him, collapses on top of him. His reddened mouth hangs open as he pants, catching his breath, before pressing a kiss to a broad shoulder, and Punk's thrown suddenly, violently, back to Chicago, to February 2nd.

To Max pinning him twice, pressing his mouth to Punk's chest before rolling off him.

He's distracted enough that he doesn't close out the window, which means he gets to see Tattoos rubbing Scratch's side reassuringly, before reaching for something that’s off screen, and—

Punk's heart lurches nauseatingly in his chest.

It feels like he's just had a bucket of ice upended over his head as the video cuts off, as he drops his phone. It falls to the floor with a clatter. He scrabbles to pick it back up, to rewatch the last few seconds of it, the point where Tattoo's hand rubs against Scratch's pale skin as he slumps forward on top of his back, rubbing away the foundation, or cover-up, revealing ink underneath—

It's not much, but he knows that ink. Even through the blurry quality of the paused capture, he knows it

It's too distinct to be anyone else, surely.

The lettering, the sizing, the placement... he can't imagine any of those are all that common, and in conjunction with all the other evidence... his body, his ass... the Hebrew lettering on his side saying unconditional love, and he knows that because he'd had to look it up, so fucking obsessed with trying to remember what Max’s tattoos were, where they were.

The worst part is, it barely even makes a difference, because he's been picturing Max the entire time, but—actually having that confirmed, after watching him get himself off over and over, watching him take it so easily...

He feels like he could be sick. All thoughts of getting off have been wiped from his mind entirely.

In his dream, he was Universal Champion, and also President Of The World, and a Triple Platinum Artist. Pretty standard stuff. He was sitting on his throne to oversee a baby oil wrestling contest between Tanahashi and Matt Cardona when a squirrel landed on his shoulder. Max immediately recognized it as the backyard squirrel he’d befriended several years back, and was delighted. 

“Oh, hey!” he greeted it over the sound of the manly grunting below. 

“Hey, dipshit,” said The Squirrel in a squeaky but surprisingly masculine voice. Max had always assumed the squirrel had been a chick.

“I’ve missed you,” Max told it, reaching out to pet it. 

The Squirrel slapped his hand away. “What the fuck did you do to me?!” it snapped. 

“Hey!” that slap had actually stung. Max grasped his own injured hand, offended. “I- I didn’t do anything! I thought you died, honestly, your lifespans aren’t that long in the wild-” 

The Squirrel grabbed either side of Max’s face and leaned in close. “No, you idiot,” it hissed. “Wake up! What did you do-”

“-to me?!” 

Max’s eyes shot open. There, right in front of his face, was MJF. 

A…very tiny MJF.

A very tiny, very angry MJF. Whose palms felt suspiciously sticky. 

“Oh no,” he wheezed. 

“Oh, yes!” said the little MJF. It held on for dear life as Max fumbled at his nightstand for his glasses but would not stop talking. “Are you finally awake, you giant pervert? Are you starting to realize just how much shit you’re in?” 

Max put his glasses on and stared down at the figure and yup- this thing looked flesh and blood, but it was still wearing the same outfit. Collar and all. Covered in splatters of now real blood, and even realer-

Max pointed to the now overturned jar on his nightstand. “That’s…not mine.”

The mini MJF (MiniJF?) crossed his arms and scoffed. “Sure it isn’t. Schmuck.”

What’s his story?

They sit in awkward silence, Hangman lighting another cigarette. He opens the pack, offering one to Swerve.

“No thanks.” Swerve shakes his head, emphasizing his point. “Quit when The Kid was born.”

Luckily, Hangman doesn’t ask what Swerve was doing behind the dumpster.

D.A.M.N. - kenny : album of al— okay no but pretty much the same as above but like also leaning more into the anger and frustration both from a black angle but also just like in community and family structure and also it's just damn good music

Add It Up - violent femmes : this is cheating bc it's a compilation album but it's one i inherited/stole from my mommy as was my right as a second generation gen x burnout weirdo loser in the midwest (adjacent). surely the origins of the miserablehorny energy i radiate to this day
