There are many ways one can get into the No Way Inn, traveler. As we wait for others, I can tell you a few that I've heard.

To some, the No Way Inn is a liminal space, an in-between space, a pocket dimension. Some get in during the summer, when the sun sits just so on the horizon that the distant mountains turn into a hazy blue and one can't distinguish them from clouds. They go to that place in the dusk when the sky is streaked with strawberry clouds, and they walk the apple orchards until they find a cool place to rest. Usually, it is snowy around here; those people come in through the back door.

I've known others who found it in the winter, freezing cold, bearing the brunt of their battles on their sleds. Some have come in half-frozen to death, while others demanded a drink and then went on their merry way. They come in through the front; a door appears to them out of nowhere, and they step through, exhausted, bedraggled, and the inn appears around them.

I once saw a little girl pop out of the floorboards in the kitchen. She'd been going to her attic, I think, and gotten lost somewhere between the last rung of the ladder and the glittering specks of dust in the one beam of light shining from the cracked window. She hung out in the kitchen for a while until she found what she was looking for (a locket of some sort). Then, she just hopped back through the floorboards and back into her reality.

Children find the No Way Inn easiest, I've discovered. They're not so caught up in the illusion of everything being just so one-sided. Adults manage, too. But all of those are other stories.

Oh, and the locket I mentioned? That's quite common. The No Way Inn is full of lost things. Some people find them; some people leave them. Here, I think I see a trinket. I had best put that in the storage closet...

Ah, well. I see our second traveler of the night, friend. Settle in. They'll tell their story, and you'll tell yours. So it goes. I'll let it be, then!
