What am I working on now? Bowsette is what I’m working on! Yuna…didn’t look right. I thought the flowing top would be flattering…I was VERY wrong. It looks BAD on me. It made me look huge & I’m not even sharing pictures of me in it. Nonetheless, I’m heading full speed into my backup plan. I plan on making this look like it’s been through a fire filled fight. My Battle Bowsette will be what I wear while judging at #sege2022 next month. Sewing a holiday dress!

I am going to be in California for Christmas and spending a pretty low-key day at home with my mom. I wanted something easy and pretty. Vintage pattern Simplicity 8418 seemed perfect for the task!

I was inspired by the illustration of the dress on the left of the pattern envelope, and I love wearing blue. I can't remember where I bought the pattern, but I probably impulse-bought it off of Etsy, which is where I get most of my vintage patterns.

I had three yards of this Liberty linen in my stash (I bought it off fabric.com (RIP) during a sale last year. It should be sunny and 70 on Christmas day, so the lightweight linen sounded perfect.

The dress came together quickly (the front and back pieces are cut on the fold), and I french seamed throughout, which was particularly lovely with the lightweight Liberty linen.

Here is a photo of the finished dress in some poor-quality light (oops), but hoping to get a better picture on Sunday.

Some (reverse order!) progress photos of the trim for my newest underskirt. I am Exceptionally Pleased with how the little box pleats came out with this spacing-- they remind me of little violets! Special nod to @historicalsewing - this was inspired by the ribbon trims class that is available through her website. Emilia #cosplaywip I still have to decide where to put a bit of darting- under arm or under bust. And I still need to pick up some breast cups to sew in, to help the chest keep its shape. Vintage Butterick 3338 wip update:

AHHHHH I forgot that blouses have to be lined with the burrito method (and not the bag methods like jackets). I spent all night unpicking the side seams. Oh well, will try again this weekend.

2nd part of my Zelda WIPs! This time it's the blouse 🤗 it will probably turn into 4 posts total, maybe 5 counting the wig. Once again, I'm still a sewing beginner, so I hope this is helpful to fellow beginners. Please ask questions! Pattern of Zelda's research outfit by @maridah I'm using size M but I had to take in the shoulders/back! . Basic assembling wasn't hard, but everything difficult and new started right after that 😅 First of all, one thing I found with the pattern in general: it includes a really good tutorial but that doesn't always explain explicitly enough what goes where or that a step will be repeated. It also does not include tutorials for things, people familiar with sewing would know like darts, decorative stitching, or bias tape. In regards to that, I was lucky enough that I could always ask @sadi_roma for advice when I was stuck. Problems included that I didn't know that basically any kind of top closes the lining at the bottom first. I almost cried when I kept sewing it closed at the wrong part... 😅 I also had my difficulties doing decorative stitching, as I'm bad at sewing slowly and carefully, but I think it turned out fine? I love the poplin I chose and it was thin enough to just trace the pattern through the fabric with a pencil! The collar was less trouble than I expected and I was lucky enough to find plastic buttons that you can wrap in the fabric that you are using 🤗 Biggest trouble in the end were the cuffs where I really couldn't figure out the tutorial (zip somehow went well!). But @sadi_roma showed me a method, so I could do it the easiest way🥰 And I learned that I will never ever use satin as bias tape again... . So, that's it for the 2nd part!
