TOP 10 PLAY/MUSICAL CROSSOVERS ON FANFICTION.NET BASED ON NUMBER OF FANFICTION (2009-2022)

To make this bar chart race, all series titles in the Plays Crossovers Section on November 29 (or the closest date to it) of every year were copy-pasted from Wayback Machine to Google Sheets, rearranged according to number of fanworks, and then inputted to Flourish to turn into a bar chart race.

In March 27 2009, FFN launched support for crossover fanfiction. Before this date, authors either posted their crossovers in just one category and noted that it was a crossover in its summary, or posted them in one of the generic crossover categories in the Misc. section (such as X-overs, or Cartoons X-overs). There wasn’t a filter to screen all crossovers of specific fandoms back then.

Originally, the fanfiction list was sorted alphabetically, but was changed to number of fics at around early 2013.

Interestingly enough, the crossover sections don’t seem to be suffering from a total fanfiction discrepancy, unlike the sections for non-crossover fanfiction.

Darcy was tired. It had been a long day. But the papers needed printing. He made it home and flopped onto his bed. 

He loved his father he really did but sometimes he wondered if he understood how tiring printing got. But at least he had the rest of the night off. He shut his eyes, loosening his tie. 

Knock

Knock

Knock

Darcy looked towards his door. “It’s open” he called softly. But after a few minutes there was just more knocking. He gathered himself and stood. 

He made his way to his window opening is slowly. He was met with the brightest smile Darcy had ever seen on a human. Bill. 

The sunshine-y coloured waistcoat hugged his figure perfectly. His hair was gelled back in the same, handsome way it so often was and his tie was undone around his neck. He looked beautiful.

“What ARE you doing, good sir?” Darcy laughed, leaning on the railing. “Wherefore art thou, Darcy?” “Juliet says that line, idiot.” Bill grinned up at him “You always were smarter than me, Darce” Darcy blushed at the nickname. “Want to go for a walk?” 

Darcy sighed looking down. He really didn’t want to leave the house again. He could only ignore the pain in his head for so long. “I would love nothing more, really, but…. It’s been a long day.” 

Bill smiled softly at him. “Would… would you…” Darcy looked over his shoulder, and then down each side of the street before continuing. “Would you like to come up?” 

Bill’s cheeks flushed. He knew Darcy wasn’t suggesting anything with his invitation but Bill was a gentleman, he wasn’t used to these sorts of invites. 

“I would love nothing more… Juliet.” He cracked a smile when Darcy groaned with annoyance at his mocking tone. 

The two raced each other to the front door. Meeting on their respective sides of it. Darcy opened it and was immediately enveloped in a tight hug. “Good evening” he smiled once they had pulled away. “Hey”

The front door was re-locked and the two wandered up the stairs slowly, talking about their days. Bill pulling Darcy into a waltz down the hallway earning a cackle of laughter as they stumbled through the bedroom door. 

Darcy closed the window and settled himself on the bed, patting the place next to him. Bill lay down next to him gesturing for Darcy to lay down with him. 

The two lay together, Darcy’s head on Bill’s chest, and drifted off. 

Maybe today wasn’t so bad after all.

I will instead shout about how fucking cute this is. because it is so cute. and I love it so much. they have. the best dynamic. it doesn’t matter how tough of a day they had, how harsh bills father was, or exhausting darcys, they always find comfort and time for each other. even if that’s just sitting quietly, things immediately feel better when they other is there :’)

Locked fanworks aren't included in the count because Wayback Machine can’t view those, only Ao3 users can.

Percy Jackson and the Olympians - Rick Riordan was in the Theater category in November 29, 2022, but has been removed by the time this post is published, so I'm leaving it out of the chart.

Bishoujo Senshi Sailor Moon | Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon may be in the top 10, but only 1% of its fanworks come from Bishoujo Senshi Sailor Moon | Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon (Musicals).

Fandom tags that are no longer in the Theater category tag as of posting this are left out of the bar chart race. These tags are usually either miscategorized or already have other tags referring to the same fandom.
