I still get Jealous
I don't like the way he's looking at you I'm starting to think you want him too... It's my right to be hellish, I still get jealous ~Jealous Nick Jonas
Tumblr media
A/N: A WWE Fanfic of Shane being mad at Roxy for liking AJ Styles. Daddy Dom smut ensues. This takes place BEFORE AJ put Shane’s head through that car window...before there little feud.
Warnings:Smut,Daddy Dom Kink,D/S Play,Age Gap.
Tumblr media
Shane notices me and AJ smirking at each other and puts a possessive arm around my shoulder. “Hey AJ don’t you have a match to get ready for?” Shane asks frowning.
AJ flips his hair and smiles at Roxy who blushes. “Yeah but I thought Roxy could accompany me to the ring.”
Shane’s eyes lower as he looks at both AJ then myself and raises his head.
Tumblr media
“I don’t think she will be tonight. I have some...work for her.” He purses his lips.
“Alright well I shall see you later than Foxy Roxy.” AJ winks suggestively at me and sashays away. While I duck my head, trying not to smile.
Tumblr media
I glance over at Shane then. He is looking down at me with a serious expression on his face, clasping his hands in front of him.
*Oh crap he’s mad. No hint of a smirk,no silly expression. He’s got his business man face one.* I think to myself, cringing. *Crap why did I have to flirt with AJ IN FRONT of Shane.* I mentally kick myself. *I know how territorial he can get.* Though nothing like Triple H...
I feel my heart speed up and other things...as Shane places a hand on the back of my neck and says in my ear. “My office.Now.” I lower my head and follow him knowing where this is headed. Both scared and turned on all at the same time...
When we reach his office,he locks the door behind him. Shane had finally raised his head and looked at me,his eyebrows raised in a ‘I can’t believe you’ expression. “AJ really?”
Tumblr media
I let out a breath and say, without much confidence. “You’re fine with Baron Corbin though...”
Shane puts his hands on his hips. “Because Baron Corbin isn’t one for PDA,he may not listen most of the time but at least he’s discreet with you, around me. AJ on the other hand...” He doesn’t finish his sentence, clearly exasperated,he runs a hand  through his short spiked silver hair and shakes his head.
Feeling bad,I place a hand on Shane’s shoulder. “I’m sorry,I know how jealous you AND Hunter get. I shouldn’t have done that,in front of you,I just get so flustered around him-”My explanation dies on my lips as Shane turns around and kisses me hard on the lips.  Taken aback I can only look up at him as he releases me and smirks.
I had not expected that,I was expecting a punishment or two,Shane loved to dole those out almost as much as well...I didn’t need to bring up Hunter again.
I will admit I was a tad disappointed when without another word,Shane walked over to his desk, sat down and opened up his laptop.  I took it as my cue to leave, turned and then remembered he had locked the door.
“I didn’t say you could leave yet.” Shane’s commanding Daddy voice came on and I froze turning around. Shane was sitting in his office chair, legs wide as he gestured to me. “Come here little girl.” Shane’s expression going from serious to lustful and lascivious in an instant. I felt myself heat up,hey I was 20 years younger then him, though at 29 it was a lot more accepted now then it had been. Though at times I was still....
“Are you the boss’s little slut?” Shane asked as I went down on my knees in front of him and he ran a hand through my long hair grinning. “Yes Sir I am.” “Good.”
I looked up to see lust burning in his eyes and wicked smile on his face as he slowly unbuckled his belt, undid his pants and pulled down his zipper. I couldn’t tear my eyes away as he took his thick hard cock out, rubbing it,never taking his eyes off me. “You know what to do.”
Indeed I did,I licked my lips and opened my mouth as he guided it to his cock. I felt that burning need and anticipation in my lower abdomen as he pushed my head down. Shane stopped and said. “You know after what you did I think I’m being to gentle.” With that Shane thrust his cock into my mouth as far as it could go,my eyes widened but I didn’t protest as he grabbed my hair, groaning and forced dick down my throat, moving his hips,I almost gagged a couple times but was proud of myself for not.
“Yes Princess  that’s it,suck me like the dirty little girl you are.” Shane moaned out between thrusts. My tongue and cheek worked all that length until my head started hurting. He lifted my head back and away from his cock then. “Alright that’s enough Daddy doesn’t want to cum quite yet. I have more in store for you.”
With a grunt Shane pulled me to my feet and pushed me forcefully onto his desk, palms flat in front, waist bent over the desk,My legs spread,Ala The Secretary style. I knew where this was going and I knew I deserved it.
Shane pushes up my white miniskirt and lets out a low whistle as he see’s my white lace thong. “Damn girl, these had better been just for me.” “Of course Daddy.” I breath out.
Shane grips my ass tightly and leans over me,”I didn’t say you could talk. Get ready,” He says, his voice low in my ear. “This isn’t going to be fun for you.”
I squeeze my eyes shut and bite my lip as he places a warm hand across my ass, hard and quick. Then starts smacking my ass harder palm up and also backhand in quick succession. Only until my ass was a bright, burning red and tears threatened my eyes, did he stop. Shane purses his lips and looks at his literal, handiwork. “That might bruise a bit. I’ll be right back. Stay here.”
I stayed where I was,yes My ass hurt but I felt completely aroused and couldn’t resist a small moan as the heat of the slaps settled into my skin. It was indescribable how good it felt, which I wouldn’t admit NOW as it was supposed to be a punishment. I clenched my teeth together and tried not get more wet, lest I get even more punished. Shane wasn’t averse to using a paddle. I stilled hoping THAT wasn’t what he was getting,Paddles were NOT fun in my opinion.
I heard Shane return and the clink of metal. Ah I knew what those were,I liked them. “Put your hands behind you.” I did what Shane commanded. Lifting my chin so my face didn’t hit the desk, only my C cup breasts in their push up bra kept me up off the desk really. I felt the coolness of the gold chained cuffs as Shane locked them in place.
“You’re not going anywhere now.” Shane strips of his sweater then looks down at my feet,thinking. “Actually...” He leaves which feels like forever then comes back and fastens leather cuffs to my ankles with an attached bar between them. My legs spread and unable to move,Shane grins and places one gentle hand on my ass. “That’s better.”
I bite my lip and savor every touch as he glides his hands down my inner thighs. Knowing this will be the only gentle moment tonight. Shane proves my point by snapping my head back by my hair and pulling roughly, his hot breath on my face. “Now you’ll know who owns you little girl.”
“You do Daddy!” I cry out. “I will by tonight.” He growls. As if he hadn’t established that already. I whimper as he pulls my now soaked panties down to my knees. Shane runs a finger through my wet pussy, then pushes a finger in. “You enjoyed those spankings.”
It wasn’t a question so I didn’t answer. “My dirty little slut. what about this.” With that Shane thrust his cock into my pussy, making me cry out in pain and pleasure. Still tangling one hand around my hair. He places the other on my back and finds his rhythm, pounding faster and harder with each thrust.
“Damn baby girl you are so wet yet so tight.” He groans. “You feel so good Daddy please don’t stop.” I cry out. Shane stops then,my eyes widen in protest and I let out a small noise I can’t help. But then Shane slowly moves his cock out of my pussy, grips my waist and thrusts back in hard. Unable to contain myself,I cum right then with a small moan,my eyes rolling back. Shane grips me by the chin, forcing my head back. “I didn’t say you could cum.”
“I’m sorry Boss I couldn’t help it.” I whimper, hoping the authoritative pet name will give me some reprieve. It does. Shane smirks. “Don’t let it happen again.” He pounds my pussy until my mouth goes slack and I feel that high only sex and sub space can provide.
Shane pulls out awhile later not having cum yet. “I’m not giving you the satisfaction of cumming with me inside you.” He undoes my restraints and flips me over onto my back,he holds both my wrists to the desk, his stiff glistening cock hovering over me.
“Open.” Shane Commands. I do as he says as he mouth fucks me,then without warning, spills his warm seed down my throat. I try not to cough and close my mouth. Shane raises his eyebrows,”Good girls swallow.”
When I did,he then kissed me softly on the lips and stroked my hair. I smiled as he said,”Good girls also get treats.” “I love you Daddy.” “I love you too little one.” Shane whispers. “Forever.”
And I knew he meant it as he picked me up and carried me over to the couch,no matter who came into our lives,no matter what happened,Shane and Roxy would always be forever.

FANFIC ASK GAME
OK, So @aquilalorelei asked me a bunch of these on messenger, but the post I was making got deleted, so I’m just saying FUCK IT and doing the whole damn thing in a text doc.
1. If you’re an author, how many WIPs do you currently have? (Be honest!)
The answer to this is either 1, ~10, or >30 depending on your definition of WIP. If you consider a fiction currently midway through publishing, it’s the first. If you mean already begun writing? It’s about 10. If you mean ANYTHING IN PROGRESS, it’s over 30.
2. What’s next on your ‘to-read’ list? (Fan fiction or otherwise)
Still haven’t gotten around to “Looking at the Lights.” (Pete “Gas”’ Biography) It’s been on my to-read list for about a year now.
3. Do you prefer canonverse or AUs?
Canon-Divergent is my bread and butter. I like them to at least start somewhere in the realm of canon. If it is going to be an AU, it can’t start there. Like, you wouldn’t catch me dead in a coffeeshop or university fic.
4. What fandom’s/ship’s fan fiction do you read the most?
WWE Universe, and pretty much anything goes, but especially Zowens and anything with Shane in it.
5. What’s a crackship you love?
Does Tazz/Michael Cole count?
6. What’s the last thing you read that made you laugh?
I really don’t emote when I read. I’m much more of a pictorial person.
7. What’s the last thing you read that made you cry?
See above.
8. Bed sharing or roommates AU?
Again, straight up AU? Not my thing.
9. Fake dating or arranged marriage?
Neither. I have a very specific trope that my dream-brain likes to spring on me (repeatedly) and it features in at least THREE of the dreams I’m making stories of.
FAKE CONSORT
Basically, person (A) is of a royal or ruling status. Person (or couple) (B) is of a lowly servant, slave, or an even lower class. Person (A) then takes on Person(s) (B) as a “Consort” which allows them to take a higher place in society, although in reality, Person (A) and Person (B) are not actually having sex.
Well, that’s always how it starts out, anyway…
10. Mutual pining or enemies to friends to lovers?
I think the correct answer here is whatever the hell Sami and Kevin have going on.
11. Kid fic or childhood friends?
Ewww, kids are gross. Nope. Moving on.
12. Friends with benefits or secret dating?
Friends with Benefits, when it comes to reading others stuff. Almost all of my fanfic falls into the realm of “Platonic Soulmate”, so neither apply there.
13. Exes or established relationship?
Established relationship. If there’s love, I don’t care about how they got there, just throw me into cuddleland
14. (For authors) Post a line of dialogue from one of your WIPs without context.
(I’m posting two from two separate WIPs)
“Says the man who posted a video tweet of himself twerking on Smackdown,”
AND
“Sweet Chin Music, Motherfucker.”
15. Post the last line you wrote without context.
“Nope. Sit your ass on the grass and stay put. Keep an eye on Sadie, I’ll be back.”
(It was a rewrite, but it counts)
16. Describe your WIP that currently has the highest word count.
There is a *saga*, a six story epic that I’m in the process of re-writing from scratch. It’s about a woman who finds herself in a cycle of constantly resetting universes that somehow all seem to revolve around her family and the McMahon family. At the point I had decided to rewrite the saga from scratch, I was at 57,106 words between 5 stories, with the Sixth one not even started yet.
In the rewrite? I’m starting chapter 5 out of 10 on story ONE… and I’m at 7,922 words.
17. Describe a fic that is still in the ‘ideas’ stage.
OC finds herself on an adventure with the 13th Doctor (Who) and Team TARDIS where Mick Foley, ripped from his natural timeline, has been brought into the far future by a descendant of Triple H and Stephanie to star in a “New Golden Era” of Sports Entertainment. However, in that time period, Pro Wrestling is a mere shade of what it is now and, using only fan knowledge and a bit of backyard experience, OC joins the promotion and becomes champion (much to the chagrin of Team TARDIS who was on a damn mission.) Whovian Hijinks Ensue.
18. Do you have a fic reading/writing routine?
Sleep until wake up. Write when in the mood. If mood interferes with sleep, write until pass out. Then start cycle again.
19. What’s your favorite character headcanon?
Shane McMahon learned Chinese during that CEO gig and can speak it coherently whenever he’s in the mood to be a little shit. It’s a thing, OK?
20. Do you have a favorite fanfic or author? If so, tag them/post a link and share the love!
I’ve probably read “Tethered and Chained” and ”Wherever You Are Tonight” a hundred times by now. Reading them over and over was key for finding my voice for my own Zowens fic. Absolutely awesome Zowens fics and if she ever felt like writing more, I’d sprain a mouse-hand clicking it.
Anyway, that’s it. I know this isn’t how ask games are supposed to work but nobody ever sends me asks and there’s so many fun games out there!

Undertaker: The Last Ride
When I say I've been waiting years for this, I'm serious. Ever since Undertaker's loss at Wrestlemania 30, and shortly after that the news he would be on the Stone Cold Podcast, I've been eagerly anticipating seeing Mark Calaway speak as himself. Many fans have been hesitant to watch Calaway out of character, worried it would ruin the mystique of the Undertaker, but I've felt for years that the work put into these characters behind the scenes is just as fascinating as the fiction.
I watched episode one soon after it aired, and want to do a rewatch/reaction post before episode two drops tonight. Join me, if you wish.
If you've not seen the episode, a little content warning: there is blood, gore in a surgical setting (very, very graphic, but only there for a couple seconds at a time), needles, and implied injuries, including details of Mark's concussion at WM30.
CHAPTER 1: THE GREATEST FEAR
The series, all five episodes, takes place between 2017 and 2020. Chapter 1 covers Wrestlemania 33, and his match with Roman Reigns, which was intended to be his last.
This is the first time Mark Calaway's really opened up about his work, and himself in general. There's other instances of him being interviewed, even mixing fact and kayfabe, but never on a platform like this, certainly not with WWE.
Mark: You know they call me Santa Clause, now, right? Because I only come out once a year.
Jimmy Hart, being the sweetest: That's all you need to. You look great.
These backstage segments of Calaway with his coworkers are honestly some of the best parts of the episode. A transcript can only do so much justice.
Roman Reigns, upcoming opponent of the Undertaker, signs in at the lobby desk right next to Mark, being a smartass. Screw your camera guy, indeed.
Mark meditates on the struggles of working only once a year, and throughout the episode, chronicles the moments and injuries that make an already challenging schedule nearly impossible. Chasing the dragon that is the perfect match has lead him to a stalemate with himself and his character: if the Undertaker can go out in a match fitting of him at Wrestlemania, Mark Calaway will be happy.
Gah, baby 'Taker at his Survivor Series debut always gets me. No one could've called the run that boy was about to go on. I see other people call this portion of the episode the mythologizing of the character, building him up to be this big deal, and it's so funny to me because I wouldn't be watching if I didn't already think that of him. Like, y'all are just preaching to the choir, at this point. That, and so much that's been said here has been consistent with what Mark's peers have told about him in the past, it just feels like catching people up rather than building an image from scratch.
Say what you will about Vince McMahon (and there's a lot to be said), but there's something special about his comments on Mark Calaway. You rarely get to hear the guy talk candidly as it is, so when he does, you know it's important.
Calaway describing the weight, the prestige of Wrestlemania... and then the sneer he makes after that statement. I ain't a journalist, so I'll freely speculate: 'Mania's for the best of the best, and he just doesn't see himself as deserving to be there, not right now, at least.
Other wrestlers, from Orton to Edge to Batista, talk about what an honor, and mark of trust, it is to work with Undertaker, period. To work with him at Wrestlemania? You've arrived. The implication of what this would, or should, have meant for Roman is clear. It's a wonder if this image that his coworkers built up of him affected Mark's own expectations of himself. I mean, it's more or less spelled out in the episode, and it is the pro wrestling way to go out on your back, losing to someone who can use the rub, but, just throwing it out there, 'Taker had more pressure on him than most. That legacy, 'Mania, and the worry of managing to physically move during a match? It's overwhelming.
For those confused about why working once or twice a year would be so much more difficult than working hundreds of shows in that same time span, Steve Austin sums it up best: the road keeps you calloused and bruised. Ring rust from inactivity, due to being away or rehabbing an injury, gets you both mentally and physically. Knowing Mark's doing this process every year in his 50′s is insane.
During this, Steve plainly states that to go through that, and the many surgeries as Michelle McCool, Mark's wife, mentioned, it makes him a tough son of a bitch. It's an interesting note, considering we start this episode with Mark referring to that toughness as a thing of the past. His perception of himself, and what his peers see, is another fascinating aspect of the documentary.
Calaway talks about how nerve-racking the final workout before 'Mania is. The worry you'll hurt something while trying to train. Later, when other wrestlers talk about how calm, cool and collected 'Taker always seems... it's like they've built him up to be superhuman; Invulnerable to the same things and fears that plague all athletes. They talk about the physical decline, of course, that’s inevitable. But the mental side of things is where the biggest differences are.
Hoo boy, WrestleMania 30, the cause of my first major bout with depression. After that match between Undertaker and Brock Lesnar, not only was I crying and distressed, but there was then the news of Mark Calaway's hospitalization that was the numbing cherry on top. I remember registering how much more important the man's health was, but it was like I couldn't get any more upset.
After that, I'd read up on so many rumors, that the only new bit of information here in the documentary is about when Mark's being rushed to the ER; how Vince infamously left the arena before 'Mania was over just to make sure Mark was okay, and, in new info, Brock was in the car with him. I cannot stress enough how humanizing that is to hear, especially considering how closely guarded Brock is about his persona, and how the man and the character are often so blended together. Time heals all wounds, but I really appreciated hearing that.
So, the injury for the uninformed: during the match with Brock, 'Taker got concussed. No one knows when it happened, much less Mark, who can't remember anything from after 3:30 PM that afternoon. To say I, and many others, were convinced this was it, he'd retire, would be an understatement. Many people felt he should retire, I did too, at one point. But, I could also tell Calaway wouldn't want to leave on such a note, because frankly, the match sucked. That's what happens when one person gets knocked the fuck out, and the other guy's gotta improvise. The fact 'Taker's going on muscle memory while he's out is nothing short of a miracle.
With WM30 in the books, 'Taker was at a low point, his confidence shot and a lot riding on his match with Bray Wyatt at WrestleMania 31 (or Play Button, if you prefer). Bray himself recalling how nervous he was, but how chill Undertaker appeared, in comparison.
Triple H's pep talk with 'Taker backstage is another gem, and I just love their friendship. I love the raw vulnerability this series is providing, both when it comes to 'Taker, and everyone else around him. I hope it's a constant through the rest of the docuseries.
WM31 was an ego boost, and leads into the superior Brock-Undertaker program in 2015. It's not highlighted as much, but it's fire, and I think allowed Calaway to redeem himself a bit, in his eyes. Not too much, since he didn't retire, but it made fans really start to come back 'round.
Now, I liked WM32 because I got to see it in person, and it was the first time I'd ever seen Undertaker live, so I'm a biased bitch. Anyone signing up to work Hell in a Cell is a ballsy move, and considering how old both 'Taker and Shane McMahon were going into that is no small feat. I liked it, it was a spectacle, and I was sports entertained. There is the implication, between showing clips of WM32 and 'Taker's appearance at the 2017 Royal Rumble, that Calaway wasn't satisfied with how the former turned out. It becomes fully fleshed out he's talking about entering the RR, and feeling intense regret, but that he was also disappointed with the former. Again, if he were happy with it, he'd have retired, but that's again the difference between what the fans see and what the wrestler sees. I, and I imagine roughly 100,000 others, had the time of our lives; Mark Calaway was, and still is, chasing perfection.
With RR 2017, Mark freely admits that he had no business being there. It sounds truly like his thought process in the moment, and not just the regret of how WM33 went down, and that the build for that match began when he and Roman went toe-to-toe at the Rumble.
Back to WM33 weekend. 'Taker's finished up the final workout, and is talking about his place on the upcoming card:
Mark: Regardless of my injuries, regardless of my age, regardless of everything that has happened, if I'm on the card, there's some young guy that's making a lot of the shows through the year, you know, that may not be on that card. So, it's my duty to make sure that it's worth putting me on the card. No one would probably say it to my face if I stunk it up, (but) I would know, and that's one of my biggest fears, and um, is becoming a parody of myself.
This is someone who's also been reading the rumor mill, the comments, general fan reaction. It's neat he's so receptive to fan interaction, and makes me wonder if he's actually been doing this for years, but it's also sad to watch him only see the negative sides. The Undertaker, as a character, wouldn't have worked for so long without innovation, so being open-minded is important. And, I'm all for Mark Calaway doing what he wants with his life, but, for him, will anything, any match, ever be good enough?
It's the night of the Hall of Fame 2017 and we see Mark and Michelle backstage greeting people. We get a shot of Mark saying hi to the likes of the late Bruno Sammartino, inductees Sean Waltman and Kurt Angle, and I just love how dolled up Michelle looks, whereas Mark's just in jeans, a dress shirt and a cap. I love their dynamic, so so much. Also, Mark and Kurt's friendship, that's adorable. One of the good things to happen when I found out about kayfabe was thinking how these characters who normally hate each other on screen, were really besties backstage. It's a thought that still tickles me to this day, and watching that in the episode on several occasions is a joy to behold.
Kurt's talking about 'Taker's role as locker room leader, and Mark mentions how it wasn't ever something he actively pursued, it just happened. Being locker room leader just seems to be yet another thing added to the legend of the Undertaker. Makes a bit more sense why Mark's peers put him on a pedestal.
Wrestlers are talking about how, very early on, Undertaker set the benchmark, the gold standard, of work every night. John Bradshaw Layfield goes on to say, "(Mark) was the yardstick. And if you did well, then pretty much you were in, if not, then you were out, because you knew if you didn't do well, it wasn't the Undertaker's fault." That explains why it hurts so much for 'Taker to not be at his best. I mean, it doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure that out, but it's fascinating to see all of these elements come together. It's also interesting to hear JBL build up 'Taker as the greatest of all time, and then plainly say he's never seen Mark in worse shape than he was heading into WM33.
On a lighter note, it's real funny to hear Mark and Roman talk about the latter's new twins (from 2017) considering he's got another set of twins on the way, now. Just in general, Roman going on about how much he loves talking to Mark about work, but mostly family and to hear the stories Mark's got to tell, you can see how much this match means to him. The prestige of working with 'Taker at any point, let alone 'Mania, he knows this is the highlight of his career. I can't help but respect Roman for that, and couldn't help but feel that way going into WM33. It's a stark difference from how I felt about Brock post-WM30, and I honestly thought I was prepared to watch Undertaker take his rumored loss at this show.
It's the night before 'Mania, and they're doing entrance rehearsals. The stage setup for this show was so cool, guys, it took inspiration from the theme parks that are littered throughout Orlando, and was a beauty to see live, especially when it got dark. And 'Taker's entrance, even in practice, is a spectacle.
Cuts to the day of WrestleMania 33. General nerves are felt, and the start of a very long day begins.
Mark: People say, "All you gotta do is go out there and chokeslam somebody, make your entrance, and everybody's gonna be happy." No. I'm not gonna be happy. Like when I say, and this isn't stupid man pride, or cliche stuff. I'm either gonna go out in a match that's befitting the Undertaker at WrestleMania, or I'm going out on my shield, one way or another.
And there we have it, the subject of this docuseries.
Roman talking about the weight of potentially being the last person to work with the Undertaker, it just makes you feel bad for him things didn't work out quite the way they planned. But, it's as JBL summed up before, no matter the outcome or if it's really 'Taker's last match, this is the biggest night of Roman Reigns' career. I know episode 2 will focus on the aftermath of WM33, and Mark's reaction, and what gets him to come back to wrestling, but I hope they get Roman's take as well. Is he as disappointed as 'Taker? Does he blame himself? Or, did he actually like what they did, flaws and all?
Content warning: they show the botched top rope dive from WM25, the one where 'Taker goes head-first into the mat. It's during the segment where Mark explains how he comes from the era of 'if you can move, you can make it to the ring'. He's okay, and we know he's okay, but it doesn't make it hurt any less to watch. They also mention the time he was severely sick and still worked a match with Big Show, and how he caught on fire in 2010 on the way to the Elimination Chamber match. Like, they actually show him engulfed in flames, then narrate how he went on to work the match. I love you, Undertaker, but JFC.
And now we're at the medical portion of the episode. Warning for needles.
Actual showtime for the match, and even now, 'Taker's entrance gives me chills. That feeling of happiness is indescribable, and is that precious something that never fails to make me smile.
So, everything else in the match is framed as great, brutal, well-done, and then that damn botched tombstone reversal comes up, and it's honestly the hardest thing to watch in the entire episode. I swear, it's the only bad thing in my eyes, and seems to be enough to make 'Taker dissatisfied. Again, I'm biased, with others saying his whole mood was off during the match, and that affected the overall performance, so what do I know? But, I will say this, ending 'Mania on such a grim note will always be a strange choice to me. I get it, if not the main event, where else would you put the Undertaker’s retirement match? Still, it completely changed my perception of the whole night, from riding high to finding myself depressed, once again. And maybe that’s exactly what all those wrestlers, namely Vince McMahon, were talking about. Instead of this being Shawn Michaels going out on a high note, it’s far more dour.
Mark: We'll see what tomorrow brings.
And with that look, and the fact he's had a match as recently as March/April of this year, he won't be gone for long.
Preview for the next episode contains intense surgical imagery. Just a heads up.
Post-episode thoughts:
I learned very little new information, but that's not the the hook of this series for me. Undertaker's the first character I ever truly loved, long before the likes of Supernatural came into my life. An interesting dynamic is potentially seeing both the Undertaker retire, and Supernatural come to a close, in the same year. I don't find myself mourning either, because I've already been through that. Now, I just want to indulge in behind-the-scenes tales, and watch two of the most influential stories in my life come to a close.
I greatly look forward to Chapter 2 of The Last Ride, and the rest of the episodes to come.

Shai's Masterlist
I'm Shai and these are my writings! I write fan-fiction for Wrestling (Mostly for WWE but people from other promotions do pop up occasionally) and K-Pop (Mostly BTS but other groups maybe in the near future) I sometimes take requests but its not the norm for me. My writing partner and sister from another mister is @lilmissriottbliss most of my writings have her input in some way, shape, form or fashion.
Tumblr media
If you've been following me long enough you'll notice that there are several stories missing from this list. If its not here its because I made the decision to delete it from my Tumblr because I knew it was never gonna get finished and I didn't want to get anyone's hopes up that it would. (I no longer write Aleister Black as a main character or Ambrollins) The exceptions to this are Drew McIntyre vs The World and Chase both of which will be back shortly, streamlined for easier reading. If it is on this list I PROMISE you its getting finished.

Taking a Chance - Part 2
This is my first WWE fan fiction. First of all, I’m terrible at writing accents so I apologize for not doing so in this story. Second, I’m open to constructive criticism so don’t be afraid to message either this blog or my main blog with any comments, questions, or suggestions (main blog is fallen-angels-and-broken-hunters). You can also find this story on AO3.
Taking a Chance - Part 2
Synopsis: After helping Roman Reigns fend off Drew McIntyre in the ring, you receive a note from an anonymous admirer asking you to meet at the hotel bar after the show. When you arrive, you are met by the one person you never expected to meet.
Pairing: Drew McIntyre x Female!Reader
Word Count: 823
Warnings: Mostly fluff
You stand in the middle of the room, absolutely dumbfounded. Drew? Seriously? How...? Your head keeps telling you to duck out of sight and go back to your room but something is keeping you grounded. Your heart beats fast as you try to wrap your head around the fact that Drew freaking McIntyre is sitting there waiting for you. Suddenly, you find yourself gravitating towards him. No, dumb ass – leave. Get out of here. You keep moving towards him until you are standing directly across the table from where he is sitting. Your heart skips a beat when he looks up and sees you.
“Y/N,” Drew says softly as he stands. He looks surprised. “You came.”
You take a deep breath in an attempt to keep your composure. “I don't understand...”
“Here.” He picks up the rose and shyly holds it out towards you. “This is for you.”
You slowly wrap your fingers around the flower. As you do, your gaze meets piercing blue eyes. Your breathing gets heavier and your knees begin to weaken. The corner of your mouth lifts upwards ever so slightly. “Thank you,” you whisper.
“Would you like to sit?” Drew motions to the empty chair across from his.
As you slowly take a seat, you try to shake off whatever feelings are beginning to stir within you. While the rose is an incredibly sweet gesture, you still have so many questions. “So, you're really the one who left that note for me?”
“Yes.” he gently bites his lower lip. “I take it you're not entirely thrilled that it's me.”
“Well, I'm more confused than anything.”
“Why's that?”
“Well, first of all, I literally speared you to the ground today. I guess I just assumed you were furious with me for interfering.”
“I'm not so much furious as I am...impressed, actually. You've got guts. I find that to be a very endearing quality.”
“Um, okay, well, second of all, you've been feuding with one of my best friends in the world. Do you seriously think I can just sit here and have a couple of drinks with someone who would hurt him like you have?”
Drew looks you straight in the eyes. “Honestly...no. That's why I never signed my name on that note. I was afraid that, if you knew it was me, you wouldn't show up.”
“So...you tricked me into coming?”
“No, I mean, that...that wasn't my intent...I was just piquing your curiosity...I never meant for it to seem like I was forcing you to show up. If I did then...I'm sorry.”
You exhale softly. “Why was it so, incredibly important to you that I show up?”
“I just wanted the chance to explain myself. If you allow me to do that then it will be up to you whether you want to stay for a drink or if you want to leave.”
You cross your arms in front of you and lean back in your chair. “Okay. Explain.”
Drew sighs nervously. “Okay. I now I've done some terrible things to Roman. I take full responsibility for them. But, you should know that the McMahons, especially Shane, tell me to do those things.”
“So why don't you just tell them you won't do it?”
“Because...I'm afraid they'll fire me if I refuse. I can't be weak in front of them.” He pauses for several seconds. “I know it's selfish but...I can't lose this job. Not again.”
You look Drew up and down before fixing your eyes on his face. There is genuine regret in his expression and it begins to make you think.
“Look,” he interrupts your thoughts. “I understand if this won't work and you need to leave. I appreciate you listening to me nonetheless.”
Words elude you. All you can do is sit there, staring at the incredibly handsome man sitting across from you. You take notice of his muscles which are still so clearly defined underneath his button-up shirt. You think about his accent – so mesmerizing and sexy as hell. Your mind begins to wander. What if we hit it off? Would we be good together? He is ridiculously handsome...maybe...just maybe...I should give him a chance...
Without warning, you stand and quickly make your way to the bar. After ordering two bottles of beer, you look back to see Drew running his hand through his hair in disappointment. The bartender sets the beers in front of you. You snatch them from the counter and excitedly hurry back to the table. You set one beer on the table in front of Drew and plop down in the chair.
“So...Scotland...I've never been there. Tell me about it.”
Drew looks up, seemingly surprised that you came back. You smirk at him as you take a sip of beer. He shifts to a more upright position and smiles broadly at you. “Ah, Scotland is a beautiful country, with so many quiet, cozy towns and wide, green pastures...”

Daniel Bryan is Back. Now What?
On April 1, 2012, Daniel Bryan competed in the opening match at WrestleMania 28, dropping the World Heavyweight Championship to Sheamus in an embarrassing 18-second comedy bout and stunning the many fans he had in the audience that night who were hoping to see him shine on the biggest stage of his career to date. It seemed to confirm the worst fears of his most highly-devoted acolytes: As good as he was, he just didn’t have what it took in the eyes of Vince McMahon and the WWE braintrust to be considered the very best of the best. The next night their disappointment turned into outright revolt and the resulting “Yes Movement” propelled Bryan onto a two-year odyssey that saw him become the most popular wrestler on the planet, and culminated when he finally came full-circle and won the now-unified WWE World Heavyweight Championship in the main event of WrestleMania 30 in a Triple Threat Match against Randy Orton and Batista.
It was one of the greatest long-term underdog stories WWE has ever told, filled with iconic moments, seamlessly weaving together fiction and reality—like all great wrestling stories do—as both character and performer struggled to be taken seriously as the top talent in the company. Then, just as Bryan was ready to take the next step in his career after finally ascending to the absolute highest peak the industry had to offer, it was all over.
He relinquished the title due to injury a mere 64 days after his “Miracle on Bourbon Street,” and after a brief comeback in 2015, he was forced to retire for medical reasons—specifically a series of concussions and an apparent, as he described it, “brain lesion.” For those that had followed him on his journey from obscurity to superstardom, it was an incredibly disappointing end to the saga to see Bryan, a wrestling savant who went about his work with an unmatched intensity and passion, forced to hang up his boots, only to later return in a non-physical, authority figure role where he was tantalizingly close to the action but never able to participate in it.
Then, on Tuesday night, he un-retired. In an emotional promo on SmackDown Live, a teary-eyed Bryan announced that he was finally medically cleared to return to the ring, declaring triumphantly that “If you fight for your dreams, they will fight for you.” By the end of the night he was mixing it up with bad guy best friends Sami Zayn and Kevin Owens, eventually taking an apron powerbomb from Owens—one of the riskier moves there is—before being carted off on a stretcher, finally, at long last, just pretending to be injured.
It appears that Bryan really is back, and has eschewed the training wheels. His return is going to have a seismic impact on WWE storytelling moving forward, and while it raises many interesting questions about how he’ll be used, in a broader sense it’s also worth wondering why it took so long for him to return. What about his brain has changed between now and the last time he was able to compete, nearly three years ago?
Bryan hasn’t been shy in talking about the events leading up to his retirement, and it’s been clear for months that the only thing keeping him out of a WWE ring were WWE doctors, a position that he respected but didn’t seem to necessarily agree with. In a candid podcast interview with former WWE Superstars Edge & Christian from July 2017, Bryan admitted that after his last concussion, he was repeatedly cleared to return to the ring by outside specialists only to have WWE deny him each time he raised the issue of returning to the active roster.
Eventually, after a last-ditch experimental treatment, a doctor told him they discovered a lesion on the temporal parietal region of his brain, which appeared to be the last straw. He was gently nudged by Vince McMahon himself to immediately retire at the Monday Night RAW in Seattle, Washington just days later.
But throughout his subsequent return and on-camera stint as retired authority figure, he’s continued to get rigorously tested, and the results have repeatedly said that his brain is healthy. He now classifies the lesion diagnosis as a “misunderstanding” in terminology and claims that he’s no more at risk of serious injury than any average person. But if that’s the case, why has he been retired for the last three years?
WWE conspiracy theorists may very well look at Bryan’s injury timeline and come to the conclusion that the company simply didn’t want to deal with the constant pressure to make him a top draw that resulted in debacles like the 2015 Royal Rumble, when Bryan loyalists in Philadelphia booed the winner, Roman Reigns, along with his cousin, The Rock, out of the building at the conclusion of the event.
It’s also entirely possible that they just didn’t want to take a chance with Bryan’s health—he did have a particularly scary moment in a match against Randy Orton during the buildup to his WrestleMania triumph, when a “stinger” caused him to temporarily lose feeling in his arms and ended in the first medical stoppage of a match in the modern era, something that might feel more commonplace now, but at the time was extremely rare. Bryan does come from the old school wrestling mindset of continuing to perform through any injury—he once finished a match with a detached retina—so perhaps WWE, by keeping him away from the ring despite technically being medically cleared, was simply doing what it thought was necessary to protect him.
Questions as to why WWE is finally re-activating him now are sure to linger, but the easiest answer is that Bryan has clearly indicated that he plans on performing again, and if WWE passed on the opportunity, it’s impossible to ignore the value he could add to a company like New Japan Pro Wrestling, currently riding an unprecedented wave of stateside popularity. Or the Young Bucks/Cody Rhodes-masterminded, 10,000 seat home run swing indie supershow, All In, coming up Sept. 1 in Chicago. If Vince McMahon has demonstrated one quality over his career, it’s a pathological refusal to let his would-be usurpers get a leg up on him.
Whatever the exact reason for Bryan’s three-year-hiatus, or his upcoming in-ring return, he is back, and that is going to have a profound impact on the WWE landscape. His brief pseudo-feud with The Miz in 2016 produced some of the most compelling television the company aired all year, and did a lot to legitimize Miz as a genuine A-List star and not just a gimmicky pretender. His old roommate and opponent Shinsuke Nakamura, a long-rumored Bryan dream opponent, has already expressed interest in finally making that match a reality. Bryan was having classic throwdowns with current WWE Champion A.J. Styles over ten years ago, and has missed out entirely on Styles’ dominant, long-overdue run in the company. His rivalry with Cena was a massive part of his run to the wrestling stratosphere in 2014, and it will be fascinating to see them interact, or possibly step in the ring together, given their storyline and real life connections. He’s instantly elevated the Zayn/Owens feud with Shane McMahon, which had been fizzling, into absolute must-see TV and finally turned the two longtime friends/rivals into the hottest, most despised act in the company. Really, the WWE roster is perhaps at its highest ever peak when it comes to the level of sheer in-ring talent on contract, so there’s no limit of Daniel Bryan dream matches that, all of a sudden, feel like they could become reality.
It’s become immediately obvious, though, that WWE is going to be faced with the same problem it faced throughout the last few years of Bryan’s run with the company—that audiences simply refuse to accept anything less than a starring role for him, regardless of the creative machinations that are happening behind the scenes. Even throughout his tenure as a non-wrestling authority figure on SmackDown Live, Bryan never stopped being the most popular performer on the roster. His ability to connect with and unify crowds, which could never fully get behind anointed top stars like Cena or Reigns, remains unparalleled.
How WWE walks that line creatively in the coming months or years is going to be fascinating to watch. For now, it’s enough just to soak in the moment as we collectively realize we’re once again going to see Daniel Bryan get to do what he loves to do more than anything else. Yes, indeed.

8/10/17 Fact or Fiction
1. Carmella will successfully cash her money in the bank contract on Sunday at HIAC PPV. FACT - I was tempted to Fiction it as the set-up for the cash-in is so obvious that WWE would think the best idea would be to "swerve" the fans by not doing something that makes the most sense, but then remembered that WWE have also gone out of their way to make SmackDown's women's division atrocious so giving Carmella the title will go a long way.
2. Jinder Mahal will retain the WWE Title at Sunday’s HIAC PPV. FICTION - Attendance is down and, more importantly, Network subscriptions in India are down - so end this farce and end it now.
3. The New Day vs. The Usos match will be the match of the night at Sunday’s HIAC PPV. FACT - Due to a combination of the New Day/Usos matches constantly delivering while the rest of the card is filled with matches with either one person who fails to deliver on a regular basis or they're only in the match to fall of something high, they should walk away with the show pretty easily.
4. Kevin Owens vs. Shane McMahon SHOULD main event at Sunday’s HIAC PPV. FACT - While the match itself shouldn't, based on the logistics of setting up the Cell it makes sense to have them either start or finish the show, and they sure as hell shouldn't go on first.
5. AJ Styles will retain the WWE US Title at Sunday’s HIAC PPV. FACT - Working on the basis of the rampant speculation (and nothing more) of a Nakamura/Styles match at WM, that means Nakamura needs to end The Jinder Mahal Experiment (preferably with fire, lots and lots of fire) while Styles would need to drop the US title - yet the two shouldn't happen at the same show, because that essentially puts Styles in limbo either until the Rumble or the number one contenders match he wins on an episode of SmackDown three weeks before WM.
6. What is your excitement level for Sunday’s WWE HIAC PPV? 3/10 - Memo to Vince: when you're running a PPV what feels like every fortnight, it is damn hard to get enthusiastic about it as another one will be along in two weeks - and it;s not helped by the booking.

SO. IN HONOR OF THE NEW YEAR AND 20 YEARS OF THE NEW MILLENNIUM
If, by some weird workings of science fiction and time travel, my 30-Something-Self self had been transported back to 1990′s and replaced my Teenage-Self self in my fandom pursuits, still holding full knowledge of all culture and awareness from my thirties but viewing the 90′s stuff for the first time... (read as “If I had known then what I know now) the following things would have changed.
Xena:
I wouldn’t have doubted the “Subtexters”
In fact, I would have shipped Xena/Gabrielle from day 1.
I still would have loved Joxer, but would never have shipped him with Gab
I would have HATED Ares, but still loved Kev.
I would have bought more merchandise with what little money I had.
I WOULDN’T HAVE TAPED OVER “THE WAY”
I would have spent more time engaging in discourse with other fans, and less time stewing about the show in silence
I wouldn’t have prejudged episodes, and instead watched each episode as it aired, rather than read spoilers and base my opinion on those.
In general, I would have tried to avoid spoilers.
I would have realized that the boys at my lunch table are hopeless. Don’t discuss Xena with them. Find thyself a lesbian chatroom for that shit instead.
I wouldn’t have laughed at Miss Artiphys.
Regarding Hercules: I wouldn’t have shipped Autolycus with Cupcake. She was better than him, and while he was portrayed as the “Noble Rogue” and such, I would have realized that his using her as a pawn in his schemes was unforgivable, regardless of how hard he fell for her later.
Regarding Xena: Same EXACT thing with Xena/Ares. It would have been a NO GO. It was never my biggest ship then either, but if I had known then what I know now? It would DISGUST me.
BUFFY/ANGEL
I probably wouldn’t have been a fan
I would have realized how toxic the writing was and how horribly it treated its women
I wouldn’t have made excuses for Joss
I wouldn’t have made excuses for Spike (as a character)
I wouldn’t have simply sat back and accepted the death of Tara
In general, I would have realized that Buffy and Angel are horrible and not a suitable substitute for Xena
WWE:
I really, REALLY hate to say this, but I probably would have been a closet Shane/Test shipper. I just realized this five minutes ago, and it SCARES me.
I would have appreciated Stephanie’s character for the HBIC she was. Stephanie’s acting may not have been the best (I guess it coming naturally runs with the men in her family) but I would have supported her CHARACTER to the ends of the fucking EARTH for her refusal to be confined by her position as “Daddy’s Little Girl” and her running her own family off TV and being, again, HBIC in their place.
I would have loved Ivory, Molly, and Luna even more than ever, and despised Sable with the burning passion of a million suns
I would have spent more time appreciating the beauty of women like Chyna and Jazz.
I would have appreciated Rico for the icon he was.
Billy and Chuck, however, would have HORRIFIED me
As would HLA. (If you don’t know what that is, DO NOT look it up. I am BEGGING you)
I would have found Mae Young giving birth to a hand completely WRONG for an entirely different set of reasons.
Katie Vick wouldn’t have offended me as much as the constant body shaming of much of the “Diva’s Division” (UGH DO NOT EVEN...)
I would have been able to objectively protest the pillow fights and bra and panty matches, while still appreciating the beauty of the women involved.
I wouldn’t have faulted Chyna for doing playboy OR porn.
I would have been extremely upset by Shawn Michaels misgendering Nicole Bass, a humiliation that led to her leaving the company.
I would have been far more supportive of Trish Stratus and realized that you can be BOTH beautiful AND badass.
I would have watched ECW and WCW as well. (Not specifically a WWE thing, but it needs said.)
I wouldn’t have hated on Lita for her finisher. Yes, it was a really REALLY dangerous version of the move, and yes she did EVENTUALLY break her neck over it, but you know, it isn’t my place to judge that shit, so just sit back and appreciate the effort she is making, K?
I would have bought more DVDs and Merch in general
I would have held on tighter to the shit I DID have.
I wouldn’t have been turned off by the slashers in the DX crowd.
Hell, I likely would have been one of them.
I wouldn’t have flipped my shit over HALF the stuff Shane was doing, especially if I had somehow had prior knowledge over how INSANE his shit would later become.
Speaking of which, I would still love Shane McMahon with every fiber of my being. That would NOT change. What would change? I would be an even BIGGER AND BETTER fan.
I wouldn’t have stopped watching after the Car Battery Bullshit. I would have just accepted it as “Sometimes bad writing happens to good characters” and moved on.
I would acknowledge his status as a human fucking BEING much earlier and, while still loving him unconditionally, wouldn’t have put him on a pedestal and allowed his existence to rule my entire life.
I would have gone to that house show in Toledo he was main eventing.
Having maintained my status as a fan, I would have also attended the episode of RAW from Toledo in 2006 (?) and sat my happy ass at RINGSIDE.
I would have written actual, COHERENT fan-mail, back in the days when he would still answer it personally.
I wouldn’t have celebrated January 15th as a holiday. (Among other reasons, apparently, Shane doesn’t like birthdays? I didn’t know.)
I would have TAPED LIVEWIRE (every damn episode with Marissa)
I would have avoided some of the most dumbass and idiotic stuff I did as a fan of his, including cosplaying as him at WWFNY
I also wouldn’t have cosplayed as his sister to school. While I appreciate her BBE, pleather tightpants have NO PLACE IN A PUBLIC SCHOOL.
I probably would have just accepted that there is a time and a place for the Shane-O-Shuffle, and while I wouldn’t have stopped doing it completely, it wouldn’t have been my damn IDLE ANIMATION.
At the same time, I would make ZERO apologies for people who hated when I DID break that shit out
I would have taken a massive amount of offense every time someone told Shane (on camera or off) to “Switch to Decaf”, as well as likely pointed out to people who said that shit IRL that “No, you want him to calm down? GIVE HIM THE CAFFEINE” knowing full well what caffeine does to ADHD people.
The one or two times someone came up to me while I was watching and commented about “Is he off his meds?” I WOULD HAVE SMASHED TEETH
Basically, I would have been EXTREMELY protective of him regarding his ADHD and it would have been a MASSIVE berzerk button of mine, rather than just a point of interest and amusement.
These are just the things that I can think of off the top of my head. I know I like to go off on these long introspective tangents, but as it IS the end of the decade, and somehow, my fandom interests in 2020 are looking ODDLY similar to those from 2000, I thought I would make this list.
So here you all go. This is mostly for me, but yinz guyz get to see it too.

WWF Superstars (May 1989)
No Holds Barred is a 1989 action film produced by Michael Rachmil, directed by Thomas J. Wright, written by Dennis Hackin and starring professional wrestler Hulk Hogan (who is billed as executive producer alongside Vince McMahon). The film is produced by the World Wrestling Federation under a "Shane Distribution Company" copyright and was released by New Line Cinema on June 2, 1989. It was launched as an attempt to boost Hulk Hogan's acting career several years after his appearance in Rocky III.
Plot Rip (Hogan) is the World Wrestling Federation champion, faithful to his fans and the network he wrestles for. Brell (Kurt Fuller), the new head of the World Television Network, wants Rip to wrestle for his network. Rip refuses and goes back to his normal life. Still looking for a way to raise ratings, Brell initiates a show called "The Battle of the Tough Guys", a violent brawling competition. A mysterious brawler named Zeus (Tom "Tiny" Lister) wins the competition. This gets Brell to use him as an angle to get at Rip.
The match "No Holds Barred: The Match/The Movie", as the event was billed, was shown on pay-per-view on December 27, 1989. The program consisted of the film in its entirety, followed by a match previously recorded at a Wrestling Challenge taping on December 12 in Nashville, Tennessee. It is currently one of the few WWE pay-per-views not yet available on the WWE Network.
The main event pitted Hogan and Lister — appearing in character as "Zeus" — on opposing tag teams. Hogan teamed with longtime friend Brutus Beefcake, while the heel Zeus teamed with Randy Savage. The four had been involved in an intertwined feud since the summer. Zeus had made several appearances at WWF events and cut promos stating that he, and not Hogan, should have received top billing in No Holds Barred. Meanwhile, as Hogan and Savage were feuding over the WWF World Heavyweight Championship, Beefcake began feuding with Savage after Beefcake insulted Savage's manager Sensational Sherri during a TV taping. At the 1989 SummerSlam, Hogan and Beefcake teamed to defeat Savage and Zeus, after which the tag team feud simmered for several months as Zeus began appearing with Ted DiBiase in the lead-up to the 1989 Survivor Series.
The Hogan-Beefcake vs. Savage-Zeus tag team rivalry resumed after the Survivor Series, in the lead-up to "No Holds Barred: The Match/The Movie."
Source: Wikipedia
With Randy Savage as the WWF Champion in 1988, it allowed Hogan to step back and film the '80s schlock classic No Holds Barred. In it, he played Hulk Hogan...only his name was Rip, he wore white instead of yellow, and he did a different trademark hand gesture. Other than the slimy, Vince McMahon-like businessman he had to deal with, Rip's main antagonist was Zeus. Played by Tom "Tiny" Lister Jr., Zeus was an unstoppable terror and convicted murderer who had just been released from prison. Curiously, his in-movie reign of terror had him beat up legendary wrestler Stan Hansen, whose very role in the movie was a mystery, considering he hadn't had anything to do with WWF since the '70s.
Anyway, the movie was a big pile of cheese that's only remembered for the scene where Hogan made a man poop himself out of fear. Not going to lie, my 8-year-old self thought that was the funniest thing. The movie didn't do so well, but that didn't stop McMahon from putting his ankle into promoting it.
By the time the movie was ready to be released, Hogan had won back the WWF Championship from Randy Savage and he was primed to defend the belt against the Big Boss Man in a steel cage on an episode of Saturday Night's Main Event. Boss Man's manager Slick hinted at a surprise in store and that surprise came in the form of Zeus, standing between Hogan and the cage while wearing his entrance gear from No Holds Barred, looking like Scorpion in the NFL.
He pounded down on Hogan and left him for dead. Hogan still defended his belt and retained against Boss Man. When asked about it backstage, he mentioned that he had a lot of problems working with Zeus on the movie.
Zeus would start making appearances in the weeks that followed, angry that he didn't get top billing. So you had Terry Bollea playing Hulk Hogan playing Rip on one side and Tiny Lister playing Zeus playing Zeus on another. This is like an onion of fiction right here with all the layers.

A Definitive Ranking of 61 Matches I Saw Wrestlemania Weekend
1.     DIY v The Revival v AOP
It says a lot about the quality of a match when even a terrible result doesn’t ruin it. 14,000 strong in The Amway Center chanting “bullshit” at the ending might sour this match for some, but it was still match of the weekend for me. Sure we all know wrestling is “fake,” but that doesn’t stop us from wanting our faves to have it all. DIY and The Revival are two of the most beloved tag teams in the past 5 years. The Authors of Pain are…well it works in about 100 different ways to say they’re “getting there.” The match started as it should have, two rivals with a mutual respect targeting the outsiders, the champions. Both to get them out of the way and to eliminate the biggest threat. Unfortunately, their rivalry, and The Revival’s natural tendency towards sneakiness, cost them the match. Great story, great spots (the suplex to the outside was insane), and, it turns out, a great goodbye for The Revival on NXT.
2.     Ricochet v Keith Lee
Honestly any Keith Lee match could have made this spot. This happened to be the first Keith Lee match I saw (ever), but I think it earns it’s spot as #2 on its own merit as well. Keith Lee dominated early on, as a dude of his size should, pulling out gradually more and more insane agility and aggression as Ricochet proved unpinnable. Ricochet, too, stepped up his game as the match progressed, hitting high spots with a speed rarely seen outside of, well, Ricochet matches. Little guys beating big guys clean are always hard to book, but Ricochet’s win here looked natural and believable.
3.     Donovan Dijak v Keith Lee
After seeing two great matches where Keith Lee took on little guys, it was great to see him take on “Tall Don,” as Dijak had branded himself in the previous match. I’ve always been a huge fan of Dijak’s work for a big man, but he pulled out all the stops here, stepping up his game, presumably in response to the insane buzz surrounding Keith Lee after his first 2 matches of the weekend. If you’ve never seen 2 guys over 260 pounds hit a Canadian Destroyer, it truly is a sight.
4.     Jericho v Kevin Owens
Jericho and Owens had the best story and rivalry going in to Wrestlemania, but few had them pegged for the best match. Their chemistry, which has shone since August, was especially great here, with each wrestler busting out crazy counters to each others’ moves. The Owens fingertip spot pumped up the whole crowd, and the finish seemed worthy of this match and feud.
5.     South Pacific Power Trip v Sami Calahan and Shane Strickland
I came into this weekend having never heard of the South Pacific Power Trip, but these two won over American audiences in a way comparable to the way Keith Lee did this weekend. This match was the kind of wild tag match that doesn’t usually work. Ref not paying attention to tags or legal men, seeming like a tornado match most of the time, but the insane amount of spots these 4 men were able to cram into their match made it worth it. If all clusterfuck tag matches were booked this well I’d stop complaining about who the legal man is and the ref’s slow or disregarded 5 count.
6.     Matt Riddle v Dan Severn
This match sounded ridiculous on paper. An MMA guy still new to pro wrestling versus a 58-year-old MMA guy who had a forgettable pro wrestling career in a pro wrestling match, all taking place after 2 am. Dan Severn, however, doesn’t take any challenge lightly and was up for this challenge. Worked MMA style matches can be extremely entertaining a la New Japan or dull exhibitions that lack the surprise of an actual MMA match, this was the latter, seeming more like an MMA match without any of the bullshit. Severn and Riddle both looked like champions, despite the odd crowd and late hour.
7.     AJ Styles v Shane McMahon
AJ fans had every right to be mad about this match. Perhaps the most over, most talented guy in the company versus the boss’s son, the guy who wrestles spotfests to greater and greater diminishing returns every event. What we got, though, was the best Wrestlemania opener since Wrestlemania 10 (the best PPV opener of all time btw). AJ got to be dominant for the most part, Shane got to bust out his best wrestling since his return, and we all got the result we, honestly, knew we were going to get.
8.     Zack Sabre Jr v Michael Elgin
I caught four Zack Sabre Jr matches last weekend, all great, but this one in particular really spoke to me. Big Mike came out ready to go, Zack, in his typical Extremely Chill style, was ready to meet his challenge. The beauty of ZSJ matches is how much damn sense it all makes, from the way he slowly pushes your leg down to get you on the ground to his subtle hand work when applying a hold. Big Mike answered all of Sabre’s attacks in typical Big Mike fashion, but ultimately the match made Zack’s victory make sense.
9.     Keith Lee v Lio Rush
Alright, this is the last time I talk about Keith Lee, I swear (I only caught 3 of his matches last weekend). Even though I had just seen Keith perform hours before (against a significantly better opponent) and knew exactly what he was capable of, Keith still made my jaw drop each time he hit the air. His second rope moonsault is a thing of beauty. Keith also added in a lot more heel work in this match than in his previous matches, which I loved. The soft-spoken Keith telling the brash Lio Rush to bask in his glory added the final puzzle piece to make Keith Lee a truly can’t-miss wrestler. This match suffered because it went a little shorter than the other two, and because once you’ve seen Keith Lee work Ricochet, can you really see Keith Lee work ANY other high-flyer?
10. Hardyz v Sheamus and Cesaro v The Club v Enzo and Cass
Sometimes the best surprises are the ones you see coming. The Hardyz were in Orlando. The tag title match had been awkwardly shoehorned into a ladder match at the last minute despite Cesaro, Sheamus, Enzo, Cass, Gallows, or Anderson having any history with ladders or high-flying acumen to speak of. Still, when New Day came out in their gear to announce a 4th team, I couldn’t tell if I was being worked, or worked into thinking I was being worked. Despite thinking it had a 60% chance of happening, I cheered the Hardyz return like it was a surprise. Matt and Jeff hit all of their moves perfectly, something I would never have believed 5 years ago, and most teams had a signature spot to shine.
11. HHH v Seth Rollins
WWE’s unique (and scary) blending of fact and fiction regarding Seth Rollins’ knee injury both going into and during this match made HHH’s knee-based offense during most of this match a little hard to watch. And I LOVED it for that. The endless pedigree reversals, Steph’s table spot, and their spectacular entrances (Trips, the King, with a motorcade; Seth, the Kingslayer, carrying a torch for his past wrongs) made sure the crowd was behind this long match, late in the show, 100%.
12. Darby Allin v Ethan Page
This seemed like an odd choice to main event the second evolve show of the evening, but once I saw all that these two had planned, I realized how impossible it would have been for anyone else to follow it. The buildup to this match was intriguing, but extremely awkward, when Priscilla Kelly (swoon) distracted Ethan Page the night prior while a group of clown medics in blood-stained garb carried out a bodybag. Unfortunately, the medics and body bag were quickly disposed of, but once Darby was revealed and attacked Ethan even after taking a beating, I got a glimpse of the heart I’d see the next night. This was a crazy spotfest with one main story. Darby Allin, as he stated the night before, won’t let Ethan Page take over Evolve “as long as [his] heart’s beating.” Allin took some incredible spots early in the match that reminded me of the best of Spike Dudley before eventually coming back (with the help of Austin Theory disposing of The Gatekeepers) with two huge dives of his own to defeat All Ego.
13. Nicole Matthews v Shotzi Blackheart
This match told a perfect story without any words. Nicole Matthews as the grizzled vet. Angry, defensive, and not ready to let anyone else take the attention she deserves, against Shotzi Blackheart, Shimmer’s Rise of the Phoenix (think Shimmer’s NXT) champion. Shotzi showed a lot of heart in her black heart, hanging with Matthews even when clearly outmatched, particularly by Matthews’ insanely stiff strikes. Nicole Matthews threw out the most impressive sounding chops I heard all weekend. And for me, that means a lot.
14. Zack Sabre Jr. v Mike Quackenbush
Zack Sabre Jr. was scheduled to meet Chikara’s extremely impressive big man Max Smashmaster on Saturday afternoon, but as soon as Zack hit the ring with a mic, I figured that wasn’t to be. While I wondered who would take on Zack, he got to the point quickly enough, saying he’d been friends with Chikara boss Mike Quackenbush, but was a little jealous that Drew Gulak got a match with him while he hadn’t yet. Quack and Zack had great chemistry in the ring, seemingly talking about each of their chain wrestling exchanges right after they had them. Despit being mostly retired for the past 3 years, Quack was still able to put on a great show with Zack, largely due to their mutual love for their particular style of wrestling.
15. Drew Galloway v Lio Rush
This match was a perfect clash of styles, the strong veteran Galloway against the brash highflyer Lio Rush. Galloway won a great match with an insane spinning Future Shock (made possible by the huge size difference between these two) followed by a piledriver, a move most in attendance had seen him do earlier in the weekend (see below) with disastrous results.
16. Zack Sabre Jr vs ACH
This was an incredibly unique match, and one that I worried might disappoint a little, particularly because I’d been up since 5:30 and it was nearing 11 pm. However, Zack and ACH put on a decent match and kept me entertained. The only big problem with this match is that I never really believed ACH was going to go over.
17. Jimmy Havoc v Zack Sabre Jr
This match opened up the sold-out Progress show Friday afternoon, and these two did not disappoint the 1200 in attendance after a much maligned delay to the show. Havoc probably worked Zack’s style with him better than anyone, while also throwing in his own, harder hitting style, which busted open the busy Zack Sabre Jr so bad that the wound re-opened 4 hours later in this match with Michael Elgin.
18. Pete Dunne v Mark Haskins
Pete Dunne. Coming into this weekend, I was most excited to see him work for the first time than anyone else, becoming obsessed with his bloodthirsty style in the UK Tournament. Dunne didn’t disappoint here, giving Haskins all the underhanded, wonderful stuff I came to love from The Bruiserweight. Haskins, for his part, hung in incredibly well with Dunne, playing the underdog role perfectly and getting some convincing enough nearfalls that by the end of the match I’d stopped cheering the Bruiswerweight and opted for the plucky face.
19. Spring Break Clusterfuck
Given that I was unfamiliar with a lot of the talent signed for this match, that the rules for this match weren’t made clear beforehand, and that some of the other talent hadn’t wrestled, at least in the public eye, in years, I had no idea what to expect from this match. Fortunately, what I got was an entertaining as hell match with some promising new talent, a great showing by Glacier, and, believe it or not, a great story, which was set up in what I thought was just a funny throwaway video before the event. Jimmy Lloyd took the win, but All Ego Ethan Page was the star of the match.
20. Ginny v Toni Storm
I didn’t know anything about the women of Progress going into this match, but within 3 minutes of the match starting I knew what I needed to know. Toni Storm was strong as hell and wanted to throw Ginny around as much as she could. Ginny, despite being a fashionista, had a terrible attitude and some great kicks. This match played itself out as a great clash between those two styles, and Ginny winning with her feet on the ropes was a fantastic heel move, the quality of which is rarely seen.
21. Bayley v Charlotte v Sasha v Nia
The best part about this match was the opening spot, in which Bayley, Charlotte, and Sasha, who had clearly seen the Revival/AoP/DIY match and knew that the only way to continue on was to eliminate Nia first. I thought that once this was over, 3 of the 4 horsewomen would have a triangle elimination match for the ages. Instead, the three were rushed through two quick, uneventful falls where the finishes seemed to come out of nowhere. The fast paced nature of the match still gave Charlotte and Bayley time to shine, but why book a 4-way if you’re only going to feature two women?
22. Matt Riddle vs Drew Galloway
Evolve 80 started out with a piledriver through a table. The rest of the match was, as it should have been, fast, violent, and honestly pretty one-sided. Galloway looked strong here, and it gave Riddle a bit of an edge I hadn’t seen him have before, but seeing Riddle work 3 more matches (and knowing he worked way more) days and even hours after the table spot took a lot of the shine off of it.
23. Mike and Don v Yehi and Williams
When this match started I thought “how the hell are they going to book themselves out of this one,” since it seemed impossible that Big Mike and Tall Don could lose to Evolve darlings Catch Point. I almost thought we might get a title change, but ultimately Catch Point won the way that tag teams should, by being a tag team and out teamworking their bigger, stronger opponents.
24. Eddie Kingston v Matt Tremont
There was color in this match within 3 minutes, brother, along with a plastic fork and table spots. This match was a pitch perfect study in how hardcore wrestling should work. It was bloody, it was real, and both wrestlers looked very tough.
25. Joey Janela v Marty Jannetty
I was VERY nervous going into this match. What was Marty going to look like? How embarrassing was it going to be to watch? Fortunately Marty didn’t look terrible and the match was the fun kind of overbooked mess that made it incredibly entertaining to watch.
26. Goldberg v Brock Lesnar
These two did what they had to. It wasn’t 90 seconds. It wasn’t 20 minutes. It was 4+ minutes of unlimited signature and special moves. It was the match we deserved 13 years ago. I’m still mad it was for a title.
27. Dulce Garcia v KellyAnne
As far as I know there wasn’t any history between these two women, but they soon made the decision to turn their match into a grudge match, taking the action to the floor and connecting with stiff chops that absolutely lit up Dulce’s chest. I loved the speed and aggression these two worked with. Garcia winning with rolling suplexes was awesome.
28. Tyler Bate v Mark Andrews
Tyler Bate, more than the other two members of British Strong Style, found himself in a less than ideal situation at the Progress show, cheered by American fans who know the whitebread UK Champion babyface Tyler rather than the heel BSS Tyler he portrays in Progress. Fortunately, putting him up against Mark Andrews, one of the best faces in wrestling, helped. This match was great, Tyler’s airplane spin is so incredibly over and fun to see live.
29. Asuka v Ember Moon
This match was disappointing, but it’s clear that it was supposed to be. While I was expecting a coronation for Ember, it’s clear that this match instead was put on to keep both women strong and (hopefully finally) turn Asuka heel. Asuka has, in my opinion, clearly been a heel since her match with Mickie in November, but her astounding charisma and strong booking has kept the fans intrigued. Hopefully NXT can fully commit to a heel Asuka.
30. Undertaker v Roman Reigns
I can’t decide if this match is where it should be, belongs lower due to the match quality, or belongs higher due to it’s implications. Undertaker is one of my top 5 favorite wrestlers of all time, so I can’t be unbiased. Seeing Undertaker retire was bittersweet, I was happy I got to be there, sad I won’t see him again, happy for him to finally be able to rest, sad that he wasn’t able to go out with a better match, etc. Honestly if Roman goes heel I think the whole thing might be worth it, he’ll make Vince so much damn money as a bad guy and hopefully the Dead Man doesn’t become a Stone Cold, Ric Flair, or Shawn Michaels, showing back up so often that it doesn’t mean anything any more.
31. Candice LaRae v Mercedes Martinez
I hadn’t seen much Shimmer recently, but damn The Trifecta are awesome. Nicole Savoy is an incredibly talented wrestler turned incredibly talented manager during her injury. Candice is an incredible babyface in peril, and although going in I didn’t think we had much chance of seeing a title change, there were a few near falls here where I thought it was going to happen. In the end Mercedes got the win as expected, but this match kept me in suspense way more than I expected.
32. Matt Riddle v Fred Yehi
Not following Evolve regularly, I didn’t care much about the Catch Point rivalry story, but damn did these two have a great match. Mania weekend made me a huge Matt Riddle fan, and Fred Yehi is a great worker. This match didn’t need a story to rule.
33. Cherry Bomb v Alex Windsor
Allie is an incredibly likable babyface on Impact Wrestling, so seeing her work heel twice Mania weekend was a damn revelation. Cherry Bomb was wonderful in the opener to the Shimmer show, having the cocky character, in-ring banter, and talent to get a crowd, even one who might have otherwise been prepared to cheer her, to boo her. Alex Windsor looked strong in this match too, but Cherry’s heel antics really stole the show.
34. 6 Way Womens Match
This match really was booked for one reason, to get Naomi the big hometown win. I loved seeing her get it, I loved seeing her use the anaconda vice. While all 6 Smackdown women deserved a Wrestlemania match, there wasn’t quite enough time to properly feature everyone.
35. Aleister Black v Andrade Cien Almas
This match was exactly what we needed from Aleister Black. We got to see a great entrance (and great theme) from him, got introduced to his creepy, gothic charisma, and got to see his great Muay Thai strikes. Andrade Cien Almas is a fantastic heel who I hope never gets lost in the shuffle.
36. Mt. Tessa v Kay Lee Ray and Mia Yim
I loved the story of this match. Tessa Blanchard and Vanessa Kraven got into it halfway through the match after an accidental hit was followed by a hit on purpose to almost give Kay Lee and Mia the belts in the best near-fall of all the WWN shows. Mia and Kay Lee Ray are incredibly likeable babyfaces, while Tessa Blanchard is an absolutely brilliant heel. Did I spend a lot of this match fantasy booking Vanessa Kraven (or someone of a similar stature) running roughshod over 205 Live? Yes I did. If you’re doing that too, you’re welcome.
37. Sanity v Ty Dillinger, Ruby Riot, Kassius Ohno, and Roderick Strong
While I think we all wanted to see Ty Dillinger’s first big win (can you believe we’ve been waiting 2 years for that?), a good debut for Kassius and Ruby, and more good things for Roderick Strong until they actually come up with something for him, I do have to say that Sanity winning here made sense. Teams should always beat non-teams.
38. Bobby Roode v Shinsuke Nakamura
Talking about this match with someone beforehand we said “well, the entrances are going to be great, and Bobby Roode knows how to tell a story.” Both of those things were true. I find Bobby and Shinsuke to have absolutely no chemistry, so it was interesting to see what they could accomplish using WWE booking. The near falls were great, the moments were great, Kenny Omega was absolutely correct in calling this a 3-star match. I’m excited to see Shinsuke move on and Bobby to hopefully find an opponent more suited for him (I think Bobby and Kassius Ohno could have some great matches).
39. Catch Point v Kincaid, Theory, Guevara
Jason Kincaid quickly became one of my favorite wrestlers at the Evolve show. I loved his unique look, weird mountain yogi gimmick, and his ring work to back it up. Unfortunately, teaming him with what seemed like 2 people at random against an established team like Catch Point made for a lot of great high spots, but didn’t make the most sense overall.
40. Sami Calahan v Kyle The Beast
I think Solomon Crowe did a lot to turn me on Sami Calahan, all of his work Mania weekend, though, got me back on the Calahan train. Sami has an incredible energy in the ring and Kyle The Beast was able to match it full force. Sami put over Kyle after the match in an unexpected show of respect.
41. Matt Riddle v Trent Seven
Trent Seven got to be the only purely booed member of British Strong Style at the Progress show by taking on the incredibly characmatic Matt Riddle. These two put on a great showcase of “Big Lads Wrestling.”
42. Los Ice Creams v Solo Darling and Travis Huckabee v Hallowicked and Frightmare v Silver and Fire Ant
This match was fun, even if the result was a little predictable. Los Ice Creams’ humor doesn’t always translate watching online, but either these two were on their game or they’re much funnier live. Solo Darling as a sugar-obsessed maniac trying to eat Los Ice Creams and missing an opportunity for a tag to eat skittles was great too.
43. Leva Bates v Lufisto
Leva Bates came out as Tina Belcher and seemed to wrestle the entire match in character, even as her wig started to fall off halfway through the match. True to character, Leva used a lot of butt-based offense during the match, but was ultimately overpowered by an awesome heel Lufisto.
44. Jason Kincaid vs Lio Rush vs Jaka
I was intrigued by the singles match that was booked, but Lio Rush added a lot to it. The showy Lio Rush and nothing-but-business Jaka fed off Jason Kincaid’s weirdo character well.
45. Shayna Baszler v Santana Garrett
Shayna Baszler rules. I loved seeing an MMA-inspired offense in a women’s match, particularly on an all-womens show. Santana Garrett put up a good fight, but seeing her go down to Shayna (and props again to the charismatic Nicole Savoy as Shayna’s manager) seemed like a foregone conclusion.
46. Samantha Heights vs Veda Scott vs Britt Baker vs Nevaeh
This was a fun four-corners match. Veda Scott, as usual, excelled in in-ring chatter, asking her opponents to take it easy on her given that she very publically chipped a few teeth 2 nights earlier at Joey Janela’s Spring Break. Britt Baker looked like an incredibly strong face in this win, her Shimmer Debut.
47. Braxton Sutter and Allie v Andy Williams and Penelope Ford
Braxton Sutter and Allie were incredible heels in this match, immediately getting over their opponents of non-wrestler Andy Williams and Penelope Ford, who has a lot of cool moves, but needs some development as far as putting them together. This was an incredibly fun tag match, made even more fun by being intergender, rather than mixed tag. After the match the guy sitting next to me agreed: We want to see more Andy Williams in the ring.
48. Timothy Thatcher v Chris Dickinson
These two wrestled a very similar, physical, style that was nice to see in complement to each other. Kind of was booked in a death slot right after Galloway piledrove Matt Riddle through a table.
49. ACH v Timothy Thatcher
Poor Timmy Thatcher, this was his second match booked in an absolute death slot, having to follow Keith Lee vs Donovan Dijak. I’m sure I’d enjoy a Timothy Thatcher match a lot more if it were booked in a good slot.
50. The Andre The Giant Memorial Battle Royal
I don’t like Battle Royals, I didn’t like even more that crowd favorites Sami Zayn and Luke Harper were eliminated without much incident. While the end result was predictable when we got to the final six or so, seeing Rob Gronkowski get involved (and the crowd reaction to him getting involved) was a lot of fun.
51. Black, Blonde, and Neon v The Gatekeepers
A great squash match. The Gatekeepers rule in matches like this.
52. James Drake v Rockstar Spud
Chanting “He’s got his own face, on his ass” was the highlight of this match. Rockstar Spud is incredibly charismatic, but it didn’t seem to come off too well in this match.
53. Jesicka Havok v Cat Power
This was a really fun, hard hitting match between two tough women and was a great example of the variety a Shimmer show can give you. My big complaint was that Havok was both much bigger than her opponent and a face, but Cat Power worked her over most of the match without using any underhanded tactics.
54. Dean Ambrose v Baron Corbin
I’m not sure if these two had a generic Smackdown match because they were on the preshow or if they were moved to the preshow because they had planned a boring Smackdown match. After what he said about last year’s Mania fiasco, I expected Dean Ambrose to bring something great to this match. He didn’t. The end sequence was good, but it didn’t make up for this match.
55. John Cena and Nikki Bella v The Miz and Maryse
I know, I know. It’s not about the match, it’s about the moment after. Still, as a huge fan of everything Cena and Miz have done in 2016 and 2017, this match was a damn disappointment.
56. Sea Stars and Obariyon v Sea Monsters
What was, for most people, the 8th of 10 shows at the WWN live center, the Chikara show really suffered a lot. Sea Stars and Obariyon opened the show up against the Sea Monsters, with the face team working really hard, but the match suffered from the crowd fatigue.
57. Missile Assault Man v Kobald
Missile Assualt Man is a great wrestler, but honestly he needs to go back under a mask. He radiated charisma as Missile Assault Ant, but needs to work on his facial expressions outside of it.
58. Wani v Space Monkey
This match had some fun moments, but the end of the match and title change really seemed to come out of nowhere. Also if Wani is using some sort of “mysterious foreigner” gimmick, why are all of his moves just American indie moves?
59. Ophidian v Jeremy Leary
Jeremy Leary showed some good heel energy, but I felt like there was an aspect of his gimmick I didn’t really get. The end of this match was very confusing, with Ophidian using his trademark snake hypnosis and it for some reason not working on Jeremy, it was never explained why.
60. All Ego Ethan Page v Austin Theory
Not knowing much about Evolve before the match, I saw this as a squash match immediately following The Gatekeeper’s squash match. This one wasn’t as fun.
61. Bray Wyatt v Randy Orton
The projection stuff was kind of cool, I guess, but with the exception of that every aspect of this match disappointed me, including the lackluster entrances for both men. I probably came into this match expecting too much (given Randy’s past Mania matches and Bray’s recent work I thought this had the potential for match of the night).
 Matches I missed:
Ultramantis Black vs. Juan Francisco de Coronado:
I had to leave Chikara (which started late) early in order to make it to the Amway Center in time for NXT (and to see the taped matches before the show). Honestly only the last taping match was worth it so I should have waited.
Austin Aries vs. Neville
You try getting to wrangling your sister, her husband, and your 2-year-old niece to Wrestlemania on time. Also I went into this assuming there would only be two pre-show matches, so one wouldn’t start before 6 pm.
Most of the Andre the Giant Invitational:
But I watched it on the Network getting in and caught the last half so I’m counting it as seen.
Matches I’m not counting (But am counting toward my Wrestler Seen count):
Pre-NXT Takeover tapings: Honestly these were 3 pretty boring matches, the pre Takeover tapings are never anything to write home about.
Post-NXT Takeover tapings: These are TV Tapings, because of that there’s a lot of squash matches, feud building, etc. Ranking these matches alongside these matches, most of which had a big-event feel, would be unfair.

Taking a Chance - Part 1
This is my first WWE fan fiction. First of all, I’m terrible at writing accents so I apologize for not doing so in this story. Second, I’m open to constructive criticism so don’t be afraid to message either this blog or my main blog with any comments, questions, or suggestions (main blog is fallen-angels-and-broken-hunters). You can also find this story on AO3.
Taking a Chance - Part 1
Synopsis: After helping Roman Reigns fend off Drew McIntyre in the ring, you receive a note from an anonymous admirer asking you to meet at the hotel bar after the show. When you arrive, you are met by the one person you never expected to meet.
Pairing: Drew McIntyre x Female!Reader
Word Count: 1002
Warnings: Mild violence, mostly fluff
The feud between your friend, Roman Reigns, and Drew McIntyre has been building for weeks. At Shane McMahon's orders, Drew has beaten and bruised Roman both in the ring and backstage. Sure, Roman has been able to get a few wins against him, but Drew has had the upper hand since the beginning. Tired of Drew constantly getting out of line, you decided a few weeks prior to this moment that it was time to get involved and give Roman an assist. Being a newer member of the main roster, you never did more than get between the two when things started to get heated which would usually cause Drew to become flustered and exit the arena in a huff.
Tensions have become high with their feud now at its peak. You stand backstage and watch the monitor as Roman makes his way out to the ring for his scheduled match with Drew. The crowd cheers for Roman, clearly ready for him to get a major win over his foe. Finally, Roman ducks under the ropes and awaits his opponent. Drew's music blasts from the speakers...but no one enters the arena. Something's wrong, you worry. Before you have time to realize what's happening, Drew attacks Roman from behind.
Without even thinking, you run for the arena. You push past the superstars waiting at the gorilla and fly through the curtain, locking your sights on Drew. You dive under the ropes into the ring and lunge at Drew. He crashes to the ground. You land on top of him, feeling as if you've just hit a brick wall. Your heart flutters as you place your hands on his extremely muscular chest in order to push yourself off of him. As you collect yourself, you glare at the man staring back at you. Something inside of you stirs, as if you are truly seeing him for the first time - his chiseled abs, his powerful arms, those thighs... Your breathing becomes heavy as his blazing blue eyes gaze into yours. For a split second, he looks a bit surprised. As Roman helps you to your feet, the expression on Drew's face shifts until his familiar brand of anger shows.
“You okay, Y/N?” Roman asks.
“Yeah, I think so,” you sigh, still feeling the negative effects of spearing the extremely well-built Scottish Psychopath.
Roman places a hand on your upper back and coaxes you out of the ring. As you head up the ramp, you turn back to see Drew hobbling to his feet. You expect to see fury written all over his face. And, of course, he is scowling, puffing out his chest to make himself seem bigger and more intimidating. Roman turns his back to Drew and continues to exit the arena. You keep glaring at Drew. Before you turn to leave, the expression on his face shifts. For a moment, he seems to be smiling ever so slightly.

“Are you sure you're alright?” Roman questions once you're both backstage.
“Yes, Roman. I'm fine. Really.”
He gives you a one-armed hug around the shoulders. “Thanks for the assist.”
“Any time.” You wink playfully at him.
“That. Was. Bad ass!” Seth strolls up to you and gives you a little fist bump. “Seriously – that was awesome.”
“Thanks?” you reply. “I mean, it really wasn't THAT great but...”
“Hey, give yourself some credit for that, Y/N. McIntyre isn't that easy to knock down.” Seth grins at you. “Now, if you'll excuse me, I gotta go give my lady a good luck kiss before her match.” He gives you a pat on the shoulder as he heads off to find Becky.
“He's right, you know,” Roman chimes. “Taking down Drew isn't an easy feat. Even for someone my size.”
“Well, I wasn't about to stand by and watch him beat up my friend.” You give Roman a light punch on the shoulder. “Alright, well, I'm gonna go change and head back to the hotel.”
“Sure thing. Catch you later.” Roman high-fives you and then wanders off.
You make a beeline for the locker room and change into jeans and a comfy t-shirt. As you do, you can't help but think about what happened in the ring. And especially what happened afterwards. That smile...at least, you think it was a smile... “Ugh. Whatever,” you mumble to yourself as you exit the locker room.
“Excuse me, Y/N?” a backstage crew member approaches you. She hands you a small envelope with your name written on the front. “I was asked to give this to you.”
“Um, thank you,” you reply. Before you can ask her who gave it to her, she disappears around the corner of the hallway. You open the envelope and read the note enclosed:
I haven't been able to stop thinking about you. Your actions tonight impressed me. I'd love to get to know you better. Let's meet at the hotel bar tonight around 10:30. I'll be the one with a single red rose.
Your heart begins to pound. Who could have left this? It was obviously someone who worked with you. But was it another superstar? A commentator? A crew member? So many questions race through your head. You tuck the note in your bag and head to the hotel. The drive is short but you can't help but run through all of the pros and cons of meeting your secret admirer. Ah, what the hell, you ultimately decide.
After you drop off your things in your room, you tidy up your makeup and hair then make the trip downstairs to the hotel bar. It's more crowded than you thought it would be, making it a bit more difficult to locate your mystery date. You scan the room as you push through the crowd. After a moment or two, you spot a single red rose sitting on a table in the corner. Sitting at the table with the red rose is the last person you expected to see: Drew McIntyre.
