Howdy, folks! It's time for this week's recap of what I read :)

As always, you can find the spreadsheet here, and you're always more than welcome to tag me in your fic if you'd like to be included. New and old fics both appreciated; anything from a drabble to a 400k word series is fine; and the only Pedro boy I don't really read is Pero Tovar.

I really really love how this story is going. The little town is so real to me and I love all the little places we get to see. The bookstore sounds like a DREAM. And I can't wait for Reader to bond with D over art ahhhhh.

Stitches a Din series by @djarinsbeskar

This fic is so fucking good dude. I love the set up for the whole thing and the reader character is really fuckin' cool. The like... 8 consecutive parts of incredible smut that continues to be genuinely interesting and really fucking hot even after like 200K words is extremely impressive. I'm also pretty sucked into the story and the way Medic is being interwoven into canon. Oh and the introspection we get from Din's POV is *chef's kiss*.... anyway pls god finish this story i need it

1. How many works do you have on AO3?

My stats tell me that I've written 50, but 5 are multi-chapter collections, so... a lot. Yeah.

2. What’s your total AO3 word count?

733,820. If you asked me three years ago if I could ever write that much I would've laughed in your face. Isn't growth amazing?

3. What fandoms do you write for?

Harry Potter (though I do read some Good Omens, Carry on Simon and Bagginshield stuff)

4. What are your top 5 fics by kudos?

UGH. I don't want to be honest here, since 2 of the five are Dramione fics I've now listed as ANON because of harassment reasons. I'll give you the NEXT five instead ;) 1. 93 Diagon Alley (Harry x George) They were roommates 2. HP Cocktober 2022 Collection (Multiple) Prompt fest 3. Solace (Harry x George) Unhealthy coping mechanisms (sex) 4. When Malfoy Met Granger... (Draco x Hermione) WHMS remake 5. Mistletoe, or Die F***ing (Harry x Fred x George) Self-explan.

5. Do you respond to comments? Why or why not?

Yes. I try to, because the BEST part of sharing is connecting with people who enjoy what I've done. Community, ya know?

6. What is the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?

Mastermind (Draco x Hermione, Draco x Harry, Draco x Ron, Ron x Harry) The worst UHEA I've ever inflicted on y'all is this Dronarry fest 2023 story. Dark stalker Draco goes off the rails in the end. It's a masterpiece, I'm so proud of it.

7. What’s the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?

From Sunset to Star Rise (Harry x Ron) Cozy fall vibes, falling in love, little to no angst (Ron has a tiny bit of anxiety, that's all)

8. Do you get hate on fics?

Yes. Mainly the bigger ship ones (Dramione, looking at you) If you're wondering WHY I write rare pairs a lot, it's because rare pair fandom is a safe space with AWESOME people. We may be few in number, but WE GO HARD and LOVE HARDER.

9. Do you write smut? If so, what kind?

ALL KINDS (though I'm not great a fluffy smut). Check out my HP Kinktober Collection 2023 posting daily RIGHT NOW. It's very kinky and dark.

10. Do you write crossovers? What’s the craziest one you’ve written?

The closest I've come to crossover is more like "inspired by a vibe." I wrote a Community (TV Series) inspired paintball fic here: All's Fair in Love & War & Paintball (multiple ships)

11. Have you ever had a fic stolen?

No, BUT I've had people post me on Goodreads. Read my thoughts on why this is bad fandom etiquette HERE

12. Have you ever had a fic translated?

I've had many requests, but no one has followed through yet.

13. Have you ever co-written a fic before?

No! But I'm interested in this concept, especially if the co-author is someone I vibe with.

14. What’s your all time favourite ship?

STAWP. It's too hard a question! Lately, I'm obsessed with Dronarry, and any combination of those three. I also think I'm more in love with stories than ships. If it's an amazing story I end it with "OMG this is the BEST EVER" and I say it about a lot of ships.

15. What’s a WIP you want to finish but doubt you ever will?

I'm writing a multichap Drarry fic where Draco is a wandmaker, and it's falling in love fluff. I'm terrified to write them because I feel like I'll get torn to shreds because the Drarry fandom is too amazing for the likes of little old me. I'll just read Drarry and call it good, and MAYBE I'll get the courage to finish someday.

16. What are your writing strengths?

Ideas. I'm chockful of ideas. Also, I read a ton, so I think the more you read, the better you write.

17. What are your writing weaknesses?

Fluff. I HATE writing fluff. Why is it so hard?

18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language in fic?

I don't typically do it because I'm monolingual and don't want to fuck it up. I don't mind when others do it

19. First fandom you wrote for?

Harry Potter!

20. Favourite fic you’ve written?

How to Care for Your Monster Book: A Guide by Rubeus Hagrid  (Hagrid x Monster Book of Monsters) Y'aaaaaallll... I have no regrets about this fic. It's the only fic I've ever written that is perfect, I'll never top it, it's just so funny and weird (like me).

Sorry I wanted to ramble a bit bc this been annoying me these past few days

what do you think of tarot readers who might be trying to identify exactly who an idols fs going to be? for instance they may or may not be dating rn or may not want to date. But I seen so many blogs trying to really dig and dig for the info on who they are supposed to be even snooping on random ppls pages and assuming thats who they must be. Either all bc of zodiac orrrr bc they just have that vibe that they assuming. idk shits crazy online nowadays. Without even considering what the idol may or may not want or like in a person or if the idol even want to date at all which again they might not want too.

I also wanted to say I think it got harder to genuinely meet idols and celebs in more relaxed places nowadays than in the 00s or even the 90s were a slightly more reasonable time period for celebs to meet ppl more freely. I also think some idols just going to be wanted for their body or their face, ppl who follow them on tneir social medias just going to be lusting for them and I can think of a few idols that will probs just be used for sex or hook ups bc of the way their companies using their image.

You wouldnt be able to genuinely meet them in casual settings without their fans making a scene about it. One of the super junior guys said they user to dress as female and i thought he was a genius for that cause no one saw who he was when he was with his partner but thats sad too at the same time bc hes old enough by now to surely be able to openly date without stupid behaviour from his fans

Sure there some very very goodlooking physically idols but like there is more to them than their body yet all I see even on their personal tags on this site is just straight up oversexualisation of them to the point it really seem delusional and unhinged, it like ppl aint seen abs before kpop normalised male idols showing abs. So I dont think its actually possible for just to have normal conversation w/ idols if you were to meet them bc like they not going to trust easily and they might not notice u if u arent a somebody with a lot of followers. all in all it seems very vein even if the idols are likeable, I just dont like nor agree with this overreaction that ppl seem to habe toward them and their personal lives. Even i found myself getting sucked into it bc like what else is there besides celebs and idols? there just nothing normal about it anymore.

For instance I was thinking it would be more doable to meet them privately and just treat them like they are normal non idol but it just not possible anymore sadly :c theres many idols I like or wouldve liked to get to know if I had the means too without stalking ro being delulu but its so realistically impossible.

Idols cant even stand next to opposite gender without getting rumors so like I often do wonder how they going to meet their fs if that something an idol might want but then I also am like it dont matter, ik it not me. But like wouldnt you be bit curious as to what it like? yet the downside will always be social media users sending hate if they fs get found out, knetz overreacting, media overreacting, stalkers, sasaengs and so on. Yet I want bts for example to meet their fs already.

Yoongi already seem like he doesnt particularly care if he dont meet his fs but at the same time he got more chances to bc of his popularity and so on. if life wasnt about money i think kpop would ne less toxic overall bc we could then enjoy these groups more than just for the way they look or how rich they are and so on.

sorry for my long ramble but i dont think its spoken about enough cause how normalised it is to be fully deluded about idols and their personal life. anyway i enjoy your readings as they dont poke too much <3

Now, you asked me why other tarot readers are doing tarot readings on idols FS. Well the answer is I don’t know. I truly don’t know. I don’t have the answer either. I also don’t want to judge how other tarot readers do their reading or what reading they like to do. I mean I do read idols ideal type, their take on romantic relationships, how they are like as boyfriend, and many more. So, who am I to say something on this? 😅

However, celebrities in general live a fairly private life. This makes them become or seen as interesting. I mean wouldn’t you want to know what your introverted friends do on the weekend? It’s the same with celebrities. The more mysterious someone is, the more other people want to know about their private life and that includes whoever they date or marry. On top of this, celebrities live a wealthy, segregated, and privileged social life which normal people can’t have. The side effect to this is that people would obviously want to know what they do on a daily basis and who they associate themselves with.

Gotham’s Salty WIP: Chapter I

Chloe’s head hangs heavy on Mari’s shoulder as the pressurised air surrounding them vibrates with the sounds… of well… a plane. Chloe had a tough couple weeks; late night combat practises with the new team (LB, Hornet, Viperion and Ryuuko) has obviously taken a toll on her partner. Both wrapped in a thick velvet blanket that Chloe remembered to pack (thank kwami) sharing a pair of headphones, both were lulled into a peaceful slumber.

Alya laughs as Lila tips her small glass of diet coke (that a flight attendant painstakingly poured for her) on a sleeping Marinette’s side of Chloe’s blanket, effectively waking her up. “Oopsies! Sorry Marinette! You see, the cabin air has really been worsening my arthritis. I didn’t mean it! I swear! Cross my heart!” apologized Lila with fake concern as Alya giggles beside her. 

Marinette, literally seeing Lila’s crossed figures behind her back says “At least Chloe is still sleeping, she needs the rest.” Alya, Lila and her empty cup saunter beck to their seats nearby.

Mari and her class finally land in Gotham’s cold December night. Freshly hushed into a private shuttle, the class are driven to their hotel. It is late: around 3:30 AM. With heavy eyelids the class gazed out the bus’s windows in awe. The merging view of traffic and Christmas lights chase them to their residence. No one really remembers or knows what happened that night. Just the feeling of falling, be it into a white fluffy hotel comforter or into the crisp Gotham air.

“Oh! My! Gosh!!!” hears Marinette as Lila on the bus to Wayne Enterprise. “I feel so. At. Home!” In Marinette’s tired ears, there were more exclamation marks. 

“Of course… The only thing that can inhabit Gotham alleyways are cockroaches and villains,” Chloe grumbles beneath her breath, looking out the window.

“What have I ever done to you Chloe?” Lila cries, “I understand why Marinette bullies me, she is a jealous and vile girl. But I thought you, Chloe, want to be a better person, not a bully like that bitch, Marinette!”

“How dare you. How dare you. HOW DARE YOU!” Chloe yells as the recent words loop in her mind, 

“Not gonna call your daddy, huh?” Alya taunts. 

Chloe, with tears in her eyes begins, but is quickly interrupted by Marinette, “No she will not. She doesn’t need to. Chloe grew a lot over the last couple months, I’m so proud of her. She doesn’t need your bitch-ass approval.” Marinette grasps Chloe’s hand which previously wrapped itself around the fabric of Chloe’s heavy caramel winter coat.

“Quiet on the bus!”, A yell came from the front.

“But, Mr. Bus Driver… Marinette is being a…”

“Shut it! Y’all want me to kamikaze this shit into a building? I’m guessing y’all value your lives so shut it!” 

“Ms.Guardian, can I please have a cookie?” Pollen softly asks from the inside of Chloe’s giant white faux leather handbag.

“Shh… Pollen! Now’s not the time!!!” stresses Tikki.

“Please Ms. Guardian!!! I’m so so so hungry. This bag isn’t very warm and it’s taking all my energy to keep warm. A lil blubber wouldn’t hurt…. please!!”.

“Of course Pollen,” quietly respond Mari with a grin, “Here you go.” She pulls out a couple cookies from a Tupperware and hands them to Pollen. “Please share them with Tikki,” whispers Marinette into the bag. 

Marinette and Chloe then hears two tiny “thank you”s followed by the sound that can only be described increasingly aggressive chomping. Both girls giggle quietly.

“Welcome to Gotham,” says an unenthusiastic man at the front desk. “Congratulations, you are…” He checks his computer. “On time? Interesting.”

“Yes, we are aware,” grumbles Mrs. Bustier, already done with the man’s attitude.

“Okay so before the tour starts I’m doing to need the student who set-up this field trip to sign a couple forms and stuff. Here ya go.” The man pushed a thicc pile of paper into the teachers hand. 

“Oooh! That would be me sir!” Lila chirped, intercepting the papers before skipping back to her posse of her’s. A few seconds after beginning to fill out paperwork Lila cries “Ouch! My wrist! My arthritis! Can someone help me filling out all these form.” 

“I’ll fill them out, I’m only going to need your signatures,” offered Max.

“Thank you Max, you are so sweet!” Lila complements. 

“Of course, your arthritis was badly affected by the altitude yesterday, you shouldn’t be staining your wrist so early!” Max blushed. 

“Maribug, you gonna to say something?” 

“Nah, just watch. Entertainment without a Netflix membership.”

Ranmaru and Keiji Parallels...and please note that this post touches sensitive topics

(Referring to this post I wrote, in which I drew parallels between Joe and Original Sou, and between Ranmaru and Keiji)

I admit that this is…tricky to talk about. Initially, I actually wrote a short paragraph about Ranmaru and Keiji but then I deleted it, because I realized that it would distract from all the other points I made in that post, and I didn’t want to do that. But here are my thoughts. And please hear me out.

The text for Joe and Original Sou is that they parallel each other as “Best Friends” for Sara and Shin.

The text for Ranmaru and Keiji is that they parallel each other as “Romantic Interests” for Sara.

Anyone reading this, please keep in mind that I am not talking about shipping, and I am not even talking about subtext. I am talking about the literal text, which is that Keiji flirts with Sara, and Sara flirts with Ranmaru. Personally, I think this is a fascinating parallel! But I want to make clear that I’m simply trying to analyze the text, and the way these relationships parallel each other, while being completely different in tone!

When Keiji flirts with Sara, the tone is creepy and unsettling, and the humor is dark. When Sara flirts with Ranmaru, the tone is cute and awkward, and the humor is light. What’s really interesting to me is how flirting is used in YTTD as a kind of power play. When Keiji flirts with the player, it’s natural to feel nervous and overwhelmed. When the player flirts with Ranmaru, it’s like the player has a chance to finally turn the tables and take charge, leaving Ranmaru flustered.

This feels similar to what I was just saying about Sara and Joe, the “cute and innocent” friendship, and how they parallel Shin and Sou, the “creepy and abusive” friendship. One relationship is light, and the other is dark. Also, a quick word about subtext, which is a messy, subjective beast. The text for Sara & Joe, and Shin & Sou, is friendship. However, it’s easy to read romantic subtext in both relationships, since the feelings involved were obviously intense, and since the characters fit into certain tropes (boy and girl teenage sweethearts at the center of the story vs. outrageous queer-coded villains). Which leads to romantic headcanons being very popular for them, regardless of fans’ shipping tastes! I just want to be as clear as possible on the differences between text, subtext, and shipping here.

Anyway, back to Ranmaru and Keiji. Something I think about a lot is this early conversation Sara shares with Joe about “getting a boyfriend.” Because I think the subtext here might be foreshadowing for both Keiji and Ranmaru!

SARA: (I’ve rarely ever walked home at this hour… It feels really dark…)

JOE: What’s up? Wanna hold hands?

SARA: Ehh…?

CHOICE: Yes

JOE: On second thought, you'd probably crush me with that amazing grip of yours. Nah, forget it, Sara!

SARA: (It's not like I'm boasting about it…)

CHOICE: No

JOE: I’m just kidding! Don’t actually get mad at me.

JOE: But real talk… Wouldn’t it help things if you got a boyfriend?

SARA: …

JOE: … / You can’t sleep, right? ‘Cause of your stalker…

SARA: Is that… why you always go home with me?

JOE: D… Dummy… I just wanted to brag…

Joe’s question, “Wouldn’t it help things if you got a boyfriend?” has always stood out to me. First of all, because it’s not very feminist of him to say omg. Although, I think it’s a realistic thing a concerned boy would say to his girl best friend.

Essentially what’s going on here is that Joe is worried that he can’t protect Sara on his own. He wishes that there was another boy, a competent boyfriend, to protect her when he’s not around.

And I think it’s really interesting to consider that Joe may have wished on a monkey’s paw here! Because the person who replaces Joe as “helpful tutorial character” is not another cute high school boy, but Keiji. Keiji who is definitely competent and wicked smart, and he probably is the best ally for “protecting Sara,” but he’s also a scary adult man, and his flirtations are creepy, and can we really trust him?

But all Joe wanted was for Sara to be safe! A completely innocent wish!

And then we meet Ranmaru in Chapter 3, who also gets “romantic moments” in text with Sara. But let’s talk specifically about how Ranmaru steps up to protect her! In the Logic Route, then Ranmaru is the one to take the tag from Sara, instead of Keiji. (And Keiji gets miffed that Ranmaru “stole his line.”)

I also wanted to talk about the hand-holding! In the conversation I shared earlier, Joe felt too awkward to hold Sara’s hand, even if Sara wants to. But Sara grabs Ranmaru’s hand! It’s like we’re finally getting the pay-off for the hand-holding set-up. Hand-holding is tied into the “protective boyfriend role” that Joe wanted for Sara.

I’m wondering, if maybe the fact that both Ranmaru and Keiji have outstretched left hands is related to this? And the fact that Ranmaru keeps his distance respectfully, while Keiji encroaches his hand into your personal space, fits in with their “innocent vs. scary” vibes.

Again, to be perfectly clear, I’m not talking about shipping. I’m just trying to analyze the text and the subtext as earnestly as I can, because I find that stuff fascinating. I think that these parallels between Ranmaru and Keiji just further establishes Ranmaru as a sweetheart and Keiji as shady, which everyone already knows. It doesn’t mean that Sara is like, gonna get married in canon with anyone. She’s just trying to navigate her relationships with these different boys as best as she can, on top of trying to make moral decisions, and on top of simply trying to survive.

Okay-what the heck do I even say about Ivy??? Well, 1. It was amazing 😭😭😭 2. So many feelings all over the place, honestly. Angst, cuteness, all the things. 3. Jungkook is DAN-GER-OUS in this fic...not that he’s not in real life/always, but the whole “get outta my way” vibes at the gala, and his smirk and cockiness (“what color dress are you wearing?” “I’ll take care of everything. Including Hoseok.”, anyone??? Excuse me while I go die.) 4. This whole story gave me like Phantom of the Opera/Pride and Prejudice vibes, even though it’s in modern day...if that even makes any sense at all. Which all of these things are right up my alley (you know this with my Jin book of soulmates story-speaking of, we have come so far since then! Haha). 5. Hobi was SO CREEPY at the end!! Like, I don’t even know what I thought he was gonna do...but the menacing calm, and the whole, “I didn’t know Jungkook was so good with words” bit. AGH. 6. Galaxies in JK’s eyes will always get me. 🥺 7. Even though he was kinda creepily pining after her for forever lol. 8. Thank you for making this such a long, detailed story-you definitely didn’t have to!! Although you say you could make a series out of it, you could definitely find ways to include the rest of the boys, just saying 👀👀 (can you imagine, like JK takes over for Hobi, and then somehow like Jin and Yoongi come into the picture as a tag team, part of an art theft ring?? Or like people who forge paintings?? I need to stop before I get more carried away). All this to say, Ivy is wonderful, 💯, and I appreciate you!

Novel Prep Tag

Thank you to @thatfizzyyyy bc I love to blather on about Glass and Golden Idols.

1. Describe your novel in 1-2 sentences (elevator pitch)

Delilah never planned on moving in with her long-time boyfriend, Gavin, but she eventually relented. She also never planned on escaping, but one cross-country road trip through increasingly bizarre locations later and she does. Probably.

2. How long do you plan for your novel to be? (Is it a novella, single book, book series, etc.)

Single book.

3. What is your novel’s aesthetic?

A small town where nothing makes sense, a Wes Anderson movie with a script by Stephen King, houses that creak when no one is home, broken windows and baseballs, neon lights buzzing outside a laundromat, ghost stories told by someone who has never heard one.

4. What other stories inspire your novel?

The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, American Gods, Crime and Punishment. It’s a very, very strange mix but like. There’s a little bit of all of them in it.

MAIN CHARACTER

6. Who is your protagonist?

Delilah Hammond

7. Who is their closest ally?

This a giant spoiler for the first part of the book but also no one cares enough to be mad SO it’s Henry.

8. Who is their enemy?

Everyone at some point. But never Elio.

9. What do they want more than anything?

To have one day where she isn’t running.

10. Why can’t they have it?

She has a crazy murderer chasing her through a place that barely exists.

11. What do they wrongly believe about themselves?

That everything is her fault.

12. Draw your protagonist! (Or share a description)

I honestly never give more than necessary descriptions because I like letting people add in whatever they want to my protagonists. My side characters have specific descriptions but since its a first person POV it’d be weird to describe her.

PLOT POINTS

13. What is the internal conflict?

She never has any idea what’s going on, is trying to process major trauma while also experiencing more trauma, and is falling in love all at the same time but hasn’t noticed yet. My girl is tired with a capital T.

14. What is the external conflict?

The sociopathic stalker and heavily implied murderer that’s following her around. They may or may not be the same person who knows. 

15. What is the worst thing that could happen to your protagonist?  

She finds out everything really is her fault.

16. What secret will be revealed that changes the course of the story?  

Whether or not she really loves Henry.

17. Do you know how it ends?  

Literally no idea. I don’t even know what the next scene is about until I get there.

BITS AND BOBS

18. What is the theme?  

I will know when I read it.

19. What is a recurring symbol?  

The color yellow, religious icons (it isn’t a religious book by any means but it adds to the weird, vaguely post-mild-apocalypse vibe), and the stars.

20. Where is the story set? (Share a description!)

I don’t know, they don’t know, no one knows. It’s purposely surreal and ambiguous and shifting. The characters never acknowledge it but there is nothing to firmly place it anywhere. Think of “A Series of Unfortunate Events.”

21. Do you have any images or scenes in your mind already?  

YES. I have all of the Delilah/Henry scenes but have yet to actually write or consider anything with Gavin. It’s a lil baby rn though, only ten pages.

22. What excited you about this story?  

I finally admitted I do not like and am not good at worldbuilding. I hate it. I know some people love it and thrive there and are regular old Tolkein’s and I am amazed. But I just really don't like to do it. This whole story relies on a vague and constantly shifting set of rules for the world (they are consistent, but not explicitly laid out if that makes sense.) I feel like I have a lot of freedom to do crazy things and also write a slow burn love story on top of the psychological thriller and it’s just a lot of things I love and not me forcing myself to write one specific story.

23. Tell us about your usual writing method!  

I do not have one. I am a disaster and anyone who uses outlines will immediately break out in hives as I explain. Basically, I have a word doc with a section for the actual story, scenes, quotes, and finally characters and settings. I bounce between those as the mood strikes me. Some days I write one scene, some days a lot of single sentences that I think sound cool. Some days I make up a whole place. Always an adventure. The plot comes from me smashing all that together as I go and rewriting little chunks to smooth it all over.

I am still v new so I only have a couple tags (and even then it’s just people I see on my dash) but in addition to these people:

1) When/what age did you start writing?

I started writing during the twitter fic era! What was the actual name of that site? It was an extension (basically) of twitter. Not twitlonger but? idk I dont remember lol

2) What inspired you to start?

I was in my Justin Bieber phase and saw a bunch of people writing fics about him on that site and decided to give it a shot lol

3) Where and when does inspiration usually strike you?

Watching a lifetime movie, sleeping, seeing a picture, my nonexistent love life, etc lol so like literally anything

4) Where and when do you usually write? Morning? Late at night? On the bus? In bed?

At night, but like early early in the morning is when I write my best content! So like 1-4 am I can write an AMAZING fluff piece.

5) Do you listen to music while writing? If so, what genre/playlist?

ALWAYS. I don’t think I can actually write without it? I create a playlist for every fic occasion. Each song is usually a love song but t create my playlists according to the vibe. Like if it was created as a love song but if I find a slow, slightly creepy cover of it you better believe it’s going into my stalker fic playlists

6) Which category do you like best? Angst? Fluff? NSFW? Other?

FLUFF. It’s the easiest thing for me to write despite the fact that I’m 100% inexperienced in the subject lmao

7) Which category do you find most challenging to write?

Angst, okay wait no... NSFW. Definitely. Like I can write a fight scene and “kill” my fave OC, but sex? How does one even gain enough courage or words to write that??? (big props to nsfw writers like i have so much respect for yall)

8) If you had to pick your favorite Choices book, which one would it be and why?

Um.... I have no idea honestly? I’m pretty neutral to all the books at this point. But I’ll always be a sucker for ILITW bc I was proven wrong in canon about some aspects of the book and i eat that kind of thing up. I love being proven wrong! Sometimes.

9) If your Choices LIs were real, which one (and only one) would you personally want to be with?

Well shit lol um irl I’d probs say Liam bc hot af, royal af, sweet af, generous af, protective af, lovable af

I don’t write for any actual choices pairings! In each of the 2 fics I’m working on I’m pairing canon characters with original characters

I’d like to FINALLY write flynn x mc. ALSO. my oc Kaden Cantarella (he’s set in the VOS universe) with ya know... me lol bc I’m in love with him

I need to be a lot more descriptive. I’m not good with like proper use of adjectives or anything. Like in chapter 1 of my stalker grant fic I said that grant threw a picture frame at Walsh. But I didn’t explain what had actually happened ya know, so like initially it wasn’t clear whether Walsh had actually been hit or where grant threw it, stuff like that.

16) Any pet peeves related to writing?

Everything, like I like writing, but I hate writing. Does that even make sense?

17) Are you inspired by any IRL experiences when you write? Care to share?

YES!!! Back in the marrish fandom sometimes I used to write based on things that had actually happened in my life or things I’d witnessed. Or like I’d take little bits of myself and insert them into the OCs

18) Is there any particular piece of work you consider to be your ultimate writing goal? Something so amazing you hope one day you’ll be up to that standard?

Ugh my unpublished, unnamed royal marrish au. I didn’t finish that one but it was coming along amaaaaazing. Also Thinking Out Loud (also marrish bc all my fics outside of this fandom have been marrish), like that was the first fic I wrote that I LOVED. I’d never liked my writing before then (still dont, not really, but I do it anyway)

marrish!! (teen wolf, who?) once i feel comfortable enough with my writing again I’m gonna finish all those unpublished fics I was working on before my extreme case writer’s block started early last year (literally couldn’t write a paragraph again til a couple months ago)

My case in Kalos:

AmourShipping / SatoSere (Ash/Satoshi & Serena): Okay I’m pretty sure I don’t even need to say it, but THIS THE MOST CANON ASH SHIP WE WILL PROBABLY GET! When XY was first announced 2013, and read the bio for Serena’s character as a “childhood friend” of Ash’s I WAS STOKED. I said to myself back then, are we actually going to have a traveling partner that has a confirmed crush on Ash? The series definitely did not disappoint on delivering this shipping fan service, especially on Serena’s part, but at the same time I was glad that her character wasn’t fully focused on it as well because of her own development as a Pokémon Performer. Ash’s attitude helped Serena motivate herself on doing better, and never giving up no matter if she wins or loses. Every moment and interaction they had were glorious, and loved every second of it! When an episode of XY starts, amourshippers are always on the lookout! Favorite moment - A lot of moments to mention, but without a doubt my favorite is the childhood flashback scene where they first met at Oak’s Summer Camp. Poor baby Serena scared out of her life with that boo boo, until Ash came along and helped her up! That moment when he had her in his arms, I KNEW THE INTERNET WAS GOING TO EXPLODE. As an active member of serebiiforums during the premiere of that episode, it was definitely the talk of the town under the anime section! Wherever you go there it was an AmourShipping frenzy, and from there started this craze of a ship.

DiodeShipping / SatoShito (Ash/Satoshi & Clemont/Citron): Clemont and Ash is probably my favorite friendship among his male companions. I know I said that Cilan was the best tag team partner, but I feel that Clemont has a stronger brotherhood with Ash. I mean they sleep together in the same tent, Ash always clings his arms to him every time he’s proud of something Clemont does, and Ash geeks out on EVERYTHING he makes despite it exploding later on. Like with AmourShipping, Clemont looks up to Ash and drives him to never give up with whatever trials he may face in order to achieve his goals. They’re either blood brothers or gay lovers...you decide?! Favorite moment - 100% their gym battle! It was fun, intense, and a huge development for both characters. Needs more bro hugs ;D

GeekChicShipping / ShitoSere (Clemont/Citron & Serena): This ship is definitely adorable for its own reasons! You have kind outgoing girl, and cautious nerdy boy who both are struggling with self-confidence in order to achieve their dreams. This ship definitely had its respectable moments when Ash wasn’t around in the group. In fact, it was I, the PokémonJesus, who created the first ever GeekChic thread in serebiiforums back in late 2013. Favorite moment - Instead of a moment, I would like to point out the fact that they both know how to cook?! Clemont makes the main dishes, and Serena specializes in the deserts. They are basically the dad and mom of the group xD Ash and Bonnie would not survive without them!

TinhYeuDichThucShipping (...yes that’s what this Kalos quad ship is called I am not even kidding when I did my research): No offense to Brock, May, or Max, but I definitely to prefer this quad pairing over them. The Kalos quad all have their fair share of interactions (as mentioned above), and I’m pretty sure Bonnie looks up to Ash and Serena as older siblings as well! I was also low-key hoping for her to have like an innocent kid-crush on Ash so maybe she can tease Serena with it, but I’m fine with how they interacted. Clemont being the good big bro he is, and the sisterhood shown between Bonnie and Serena were an awesome dynamic (same goes with Ash and Max in AG). With Ash being the definitive leader for this group (since their really isn’t an older figure or Clemont is just short), the most important trait of all is that the three of them look up to Ash, and they can all learn together from him, cheer him on, and maybe even be as strong as he is. Ash fan club jokes aside, I can see these four living in a small peaceful cabin somewhere in the fine forests of Kalos where they seek new adventures every day and help Pokémon in need (no, I don’t write fanfics). 

MarissonShipping (Alain/Alan & Mairin/Manon): Now this is one of the more unique shippings that you don’t see quite often from looks alone. I honestly would not think that the two main characters from the Mega Evolution specials would have much have a bigger role once the XY&Z arc started. Their relationship definitely had a rocky start since Mairin just looked like a stalker following Alain around for no apparent reason. Eventually he softened up to her by Act III (I think?) after Mairin protected him from the Mega Evolution chaos that was happening during their trip in Hoenn. And if you think about it, Alain entered the Kalos League BECAUSE of Mairin and her sick Chespin. If it wasn’t for this ship maybe Ash could have won the League. Mairin is that type of girl that bugs the boyfriend if she can go to her favorite store in mall, and Alain will probably be “oh fine alright” and buys her anything she wants because that’s how much he cares. Alain doesn’t really wanna show his affection much compared to Mairin, but that’s what I like about this cute ship. Favorite moment - The first hug they shared at the end of the 3rd act Mega Evolution. That pretty much sold the ship to me <3

Honorable mentions: As you can tell by my low quality picture collage skills, I do think Serena would make the most girlfriends among her friends/rivals xD Serena and Shauna was a relationship I looked forward to because of how I loved Shauna’s in-game character’s relationship with the player in X/Y. It pretty much as the same vibe with Serena and Aria being performer GFs and taking about how pretty cool they can be when it comes to outfits and stylish performances with their Pokémon. Serena and Miette however is a more aggressive relationship because of them fighting over flirting with Ash. Of course Ash still has no clue whatsoever, but it’s just funny how he’s the innocent little boy in all of this. Serena and Mairin are the best girl power BFFs support to their boys, and wished that they interacted more prior to the Kalos League. But what about Serena’s adorable Pokémon? Before evolving, I always thought that her Fennekin would be more closer to Ash’s Froakie. Would have made AmourShipping even greater! But Serena’s Eevee and Clemont’s Bunnelby were the adorable Pokémon ship for this series. Poor Eevee was scared of everyone’s Pokémon EXCEPT Bunnelby whom she’d hide behind him every time especially when Chespin tries to be friendly xD I can’t remember but I think there were a few interactions of them after Eevee evolved into a Sylveon. Moving on to the gym leader side of things is Viola and Grant’s cute relationship. It wasn’t seen in the games, but it was clearly obvious that these two could be more than just friends. Probably my favoritegmy leader shipping if you ask me. Ash and Korrina had a good dynamic too when she was temporarily traveling with them, and the group even admitted that the two are alike!(maybe just in hunger I don’t know lol) But let’s not forget Shōta’s senpai treatment to Satoshi. I think he is really the first rival that actually looked up to him and wanted to beat him respectfully. This boy has a handful of notes about Ash, and I’m not even surprised if it’s not just the battling styles and strategies found in that little note book of his ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)

Monday, 1:48 P.M.

Working the midday shift guaranteed for quite a different vibe of people. People weren’t rushing around to get their coffee and breakfast, and it wasn’t loud and obnoxious like the dinner shift. It was so laid back, and people always had an inviting presence.

It found itself particularly inviting on a certain day in October.

I cleaned the counter willingly, as given this shift actually made me more looking forward to going to work each day. From behind the counter I watched as people started to occupy the restaurant. One particular man walked in a few minutes after the midday ‘rush’, and sat right in my ideal view. He opened his MacBook, coated in a layer of vibrant stickers. I smiled, and right away I could tell the kind of guy he was - I had earned the ability to do that ever since I started working here. He was the kind of guy that would go for a long time without saying something, then out one of his thoughts. It was like he was running wild in his own place, and was a visitor of the real world. He was the kind of guy I had always wanted to have in my life.

He looked to be about 22, which made it almost impossible for me to talk to him, me not even 19 yet. But I watched him from behind the counter. I could see a sliver of what was on his laptop - it was his own face. His mouse dragged segmented clips of himself with a tiny lion on his shoulder around. I watched him there for at least two minutes before willing myself to take his order. I just happened to be working that section today, a part I never usually do. Something welled up inside me and I felt like it was for a reason. Surely I was just being silly. This was not a love at first sight story we’d tell our kids.

And then I realized - in the time span of 4 minutes I had imagined us with children. I sighed, and lightly slapped my cheek as a discipline for thinking that. You don’t even know his name, I thought.

I looked behind the counter I was stood at and adjusted my hair in the gargantuan mirror. I straightened my black polo I had worn for the past 5 shifts of work, even though I had two others.

Okay Dan, stop this. Just take his order and get out of his hair. What is your problem?

 I found it in myself to open the notepad shaking in my clammy hands.

“Hi, w-what can I get you?” I managed out, my voice cracking. I felt so stupid.

He let out a chuckle. Without looking up from his laptop yet, he began to respond.

“Erm, I’ll have a caramel macchiat-,” he started, his eyes glazing over me. I suddenly felt extremely exposed with his stare on me. Sweat dripped down the back of my neck.

He blinked hard a few times. For the first time, we looked at each other.

You could go swimming in those eyes.

A perfect shade of blue, surrounded with a green tint and specks of yellow. I couldn’t stop staring at them.

Time slowed. Everything seemed to blur and it seemed like we were the only things left walking this realm. I tried to shake myself from my own mind when I’d noticed I had been staring at his lips for at least 20 seconds.

Way to go, you just completely freaked him out, I told myself. But I wonder what it’s like to kiss this man. Was he the type his persona proved him to be? Or was he unpredictable and impossible to read?

Either way, I wanted to find out. But first I just needed his order.

I coughed, looking down.

“So that was a, um, caramel macchiato?” I asked him, leaving off where he stopped.

He looked up at mean again. “Yes, thank you...Dan,” he said, reading my name tag. I vigorously blushed. He just said my name.

I nodded in his direction, and ran away as quick as possible to make him his coffee. Not very many people came in for coffee at 2 P.M. anymore. It was a nice change of pace for this time of day, as most days I didn’t usually get to show off my coffee skills.

I capped the lid on his drink and ran it back over to him, setting it down on the table next to the chair he was sat in.

“Thank you so much. How much is it?” he asked, smiling.

“Oh, it’s-it’s on the house today,” I said quickly. Did I just scare him off paying for his coffee?

“Really? That’s so nice of you, thank you,” he said. I ducked my head for a response, scurrying away.

God, why the hell was I so awkward? 

 Wednesday, 1:51 P.M.

It had been torture the next day. All I could think about was seeing him again, but I knew I had blown it. I slapped myself thinking about how much I had thought about him. I didn’t even know him. For all I know he’s not even from around here and that is all we will know of each other for as long as we live.

But that afternoon a familiar face walked in the door. It had gotten at least 20 degrees colder in two days and by now I was wearing the long sleeve shirt they had supplied me with. He was wearing a lightened purple sweater advertising a blue wolf on it. I found it insanely adorable. He had brought his laptop with him again, another sticker I found had been added to the collection. Indulging in the free wifi, I watched him log into YouTube and lurk around channels, something I’d do a lot of in my free time. He pulled down a tab and clicked ‘upload video’, something I only dreamed of doing one day. The video that was projected onto his screen the days previous was now being added to the world of YouTube. I let him commence the process but realized it took much longer than that, maybe why he’d come here to pass time while waiting.

I walked over to him again. I felt like some kind of stalker.

My eyes lit up when he turned up to me and smiled. A wave of relief came over me when he spoke.

“You’re back! I was hoping I’d see you again,” he said.

My mouth felt like it was sealed shut. Did he actually just tell me he was happy to see me?

“R-really?” I stuttered. My cheeks flourished.

“I-um, yeah,” he suddenly replied quietly, looking down. “N-it doesn’t matter. Forget I said that.”

“No, no,” I told him, “I, um, kind of haven’t stopped thinking about you since you were last here. I felt like I scared you off paying for your coffee and acting weird.”

He didn’t quite reply to that, but just stood there twiddling his thumbs. He invited me to sit down.

Being truthful, I had stayed an extra half an hour past my shift, seeing if he would walk in again.

Graciously, I accepted his offer and sat down in a chair mirroring his, a footrest sharing space between us.

“I’m Dan,” I told him. It was only moments after I realized he already knew that.

“I know,” He said, smirking. “My name is Phil.” Phil. His name tingled to say in my mouth. It was perfect just like him.

“It’s nice to meet you, Phil,” I said, saying his name for the first time. He shook my hand. Electrons buzzed and shocked and illuminated at the touch of our skin, and it was so magical. I just wanted to keep his hand in mine forever, but it seemed a tad bit unrealistic.

Silence hung over us as I attempted to keep the conversation flowing.

“I like your stickers,” I said, pointing to a particular one stating ‘I <3 Your Mum’. He giggled.

“Yeah, that’s one of my favorites, and that one,” he said, pointing to a sticker with Sarah Michelle Gellar’s face covering it.

“Do you ever just wanna get her face tattooed onto yours?” I stated, instantly feeling like freak. This sensation didn’t last for long.

“Yes!” he exclaimed, and my face heated up. I was actually talking to him this very moment.

 “So how long’ve you been working here?” he asked me.

“Well I’ve been working in the industry for about five years ago, it being my first job. I came here about 3 ½ years ago, and I really like it. Recently I got moved from the night shift to the afternoon shift and I like it a lot more. I actually look forward coming to work now,” I told him.

“That’s great to hear! Maybe if you hadn’t we wouldn't have met.” “Funny the way things work out.” We looked at each other as the silence was less unbearable this time.

His laptop made a soft noise. His video had uploaded.

“About time,” he muttered, mostly to himself. I saw him smile a little as another had added to his collection and watched him annotate it quietly.

For a moment he disregarded everything surrounding him. It was really cute, the way he could just detach and hook himself onto something he valued. After a moment he looked up again.

“Sorry, my uh, video uploaded,” he said shyly. I think he expected me to be confused, but I just smiled and nodded knowingly. It felt quite reassuring for him I suppose, not having to explain the concept of what YouTube can really mean to someone. He probably did it quite a lot when people asked him what his job was.

 And then we just sat, not very much in silence but in our own thoughts. I shifted awkwardly in my seat, trying not to make it look like I was as nervous as I was; but he just sat there. He looked comfortable and content, and I began to think if my theory I had depicted of him had been correct. I watched him think there for a few minutes.

After exactly 2 minutes and 12 seconds, he spoke.

“Isn’t it crazy how things just sort of happen? Like here I am, a college student trying to make a living on this website and getting coffee paid for by a really cute guy when even a year ago I wouldn’t have even dreamt of this happening.”

Wait. He just called me cute. Did he just call me cute? He did. Phil just called me cute. Oh my God.

I tried to remain calm exteriorly, but inside I was manically and utterly spazzing.

“I know, I mean a year ago I was probably handing in my A-Levels and dozing off in a geography class from having stayed up all night doing the coursework. I never thought this would happen,” I replied. I had minorly revealed my age. I wanted him to think I was older and smart like him, but in reality I was just a cripplingly awkward and nervous teenager that’s just scraped by my whole life. I was waiting for things to take off. Maybe I just had to wait longer than others did.

 Before I knew it we had been sat there for over 2 hours and the new workers had already commenced preparing for the dinner rush waiting to happen. I warned him about it.

“Yeah, we should probably get out of here. Um, what are you doing this week?” he asked me. I loved how cute and quiet he went when he was trying to flirt on any level. I knew for a fact I wasn’t any better.

“Let’s see, it’s Wednesday today, I’m working here Tomorrow and Saturday,” I said, trying to correctly memorize my schedule.

“Okay, cool. I’ve got class early tomorrow morning, but this time Saturday I don’t. Maybe I’ll stop in and we can talk again. I really liked this,” he said, gaining more confidence.

“I’ll be here,” I told him, now both of us huddled together outside the shop. I was carrying something of his by the opposing side of my body. I didn’t want him to forget it.

“Oh, I forgot to pay you again for the coffee,” he told me. I held a hand out to his shoulder: “It’s no problem. Don’t forget it by the way,” I said, holding his coffee in my hand I know showed him.

“I’m so forgetful. Thank you again, you don’t have to keep buying it for me, though. I may be broke, but I’m not that broke.”

He began to slowly walk up the street, and I watched him from inside the shop see the smiley face I had written next to my phone number. Luckily he didn’t see me.

 It had been almost a year since our first encounter, and we have been together for over 7 months. By now I had let my boss in on my not-so-secret love affair with a customer.

“So we were right?” he asked me. I stared at him confused.

He turned to the co-workers behind him. “We’ve been having a poll going for how long it would take for you to catch on that this is in fact a love at first sight story, as much as you say it isn’t,” He said. 2 of the 4 huffed and handed him a few tens.

“Are you serious? No, that’s not what it is, and you’re just gonna have to give that money back,” I protested.

“Dan, I was here when he first walked in. I saw you two look at each other and boom, love at first sight sparks went off,” Gale, the best barista, told me. “You’re all delusional. That is not what this is,” I said again. This was still not a love at first sight story. It’s been that way since the day we met.

“Whatever you say, but I saw it. With my own two eyes,” she said, making a V-shape with her fingers pointing towards her pupils.

 He walked in the door. I withdrew myself from the conversation, more argument, and practically leaped overtop the counter separating us. Only 2 people were in the whole restaurant that weren’t workers, now 3.

“Phil!” I almost screamed. He ran over to me, smiling. He pushed me up against the outer side of the counter, kissing me. His hands grazed down from the sides of my face to my hips. I kept mine strung around the center of his back. I didn’t even care that my co-workers, not to mention my boss, were sat right on front of me. Usually I’m good about keeping it on the DL, but with Phil participating in PDA is no problem for me. I want everyone to know he’s mine, and he’s not going anywhere.

He drew away.

“Hi, Bear,” he said, just loud enough for me to hear and the others to barely. I curled my head to rest on his bony shoulder and he rubbed my back for a moment. I looked up to him, and my eyes lit up. I loved looking at him and every part of his beautiful structure - his glistening eyes, not tampered by any form of lighting, his rising and reddened cheekbones. It was starting to get cold again, and I had helped him drag out his jumpers two weeks ago. I snuggled into it. I heard the shutter of a camera go off from the tribe of black shirts huddled behind the counter, and they all surrounded the source and giggled. I sighed and glared at them.

Phil and I walked over to the phone and saw it was a picture of my gaze at Phil.

“If you don’t call that love at first sight, then I don’t know what is,” one said.

I would not be winning this battle.

5 things I’ve always wanted to do in life:

Be an amateur luthier and make viols because the curves, oh the curves of those instruments always fascinate me! (CREMONA is also one of the reasons why I learn Italian ;))

Be a true multilingual (I still have areas to improve on my second language i.e. English. Dream big, they say? Lol). Master a foreign language and be able to read some masterpieces in that language (current languages of interest: German, Latin & Italian. I also wish I could have time for Greek, Ancient Greek, and Japanese!)

Do some real hiking that involves "conquering" (lol) the >3000m peaks! (I only hiked from Zermatt to Gornergrat, ~3100m! Next target: Jade Mountain (~3900m) in Taiwan :)))

Stand up and speak out for people or lives who're suppressed. Make some contributions in some ways. (It's not easy for flawed introverts like me. But hopefully one day I’d be there.)

I can be very picky when it comes to food and drinks (I love fine food and drams) but at the same time I fucking hate wasting food. (#snob me belongs to dumpster not edible food ok)

It takes me long time irl or here to warm to people BUT instant bonding is possible if we share something unique & similar vibes/interest (I'm sorry you all have to suffer with me :3)

I love solo hiking (#not recommended) because I need not stress myself worrying about the safety of my companions. I love moments where it's just the nature and me. And reachable targets to meet. “Free but happy”, what Brahms said.

I talk to my plant (Narcissus bought for the lunar new year!) and fish. Mainly cooing them in broken phrases of various languages that are not my mother tongue ooopsie

My best sis is currently studying to be a drama therapist- I'm so proud of her and she's utterly amazing and kind (S if you see this- this means you are a STALKER and have to treat me to a Gratte at YOI cafe stand lol)
