Had Ty known that he'd be staring up into the greenish, alien skies of the Quinkan homeworld once more, he would've just kept his eyes shut. Kept them shut and hope he'd wake up properly soon...

Why here again? What had he done to deserve this? The first time had been awful enough; even now, the ache from his previous nightmare was creeping back into his chest, causing him to groan in discomfort as he sat up. It settled around his heart like a molten claw.

It hurt so much... and here he thought people weren't supposed to feel pain in their dreams.

Although he guessed that wasn't the case for nightmares...

🪃⍾⍽ "Ugh..."

What horrors did the Quinking wish to show him this time? Ty wondered this as he surveyed his surroundings. Right in the middle of that fated arena once more... it made his skin crawl. He never wanted to see this place again-

🛻⍾⍽ "Well, well. Look who's finally awake."

Now THAT voice... that shook Ty to his core. He turned his head slowly, terrified of what he'd see; his heart had stopped dead in his chest at the sight.

🪃⍾⍽ "...Sh-Shazza...?"

To his horror, it wasn't just the dingo standing in front of him right now; Sly was also there, seeming to almost be sneering at the other marsupial with contempt.

🛻⍾⍽ "Are you really that surprised to see us, Possum?" It sounded like Shazza... but the barely hidden malice in 'her' voice quickly told Ty otherwise.

💀⍾⍽ "We figured you'd be expecting this at some point," the thing that looked like Sly frowned, arms crossed. "We were there, after all."

Of course... Ty really should've expected his nemesis (who should be dead, why weren't they dead, it wasn't FAIR-) to pull something like this. Didn't mean he was prepared for it in the slightest, however.

🪃⍾⍽ "So what exactly are you gettin' outta this, huh? Gotta be more than just some sick kicks, right?"

Seems the thylacine was desperate for any kind of stable footing in this situation; he was loathe to show any weakness to the Quinking, so for him, being confrontational was the answer right now.

🛻⍾⍽ "Oh, Possum, we thought you'd be more clever than that," 'Shazza' purred, a paw reaching out to ghost across his chin; what would've normally been a welcome touch just made his blood run cold now.

🛻⍾⍽ "Don't you remember? The fate we have laid out for you?"

The smirk on 'her' face turned into a sadistic sneer. Ty remembered now... but he kept his glare defiant.

🪃⍾⍽ "You wanna make me your puppet or somethin'," he huffed. "And you're gonna accomplish that by... givin' me nightmares?"

He smirked, but it was hiding more fear than he cared to admit; the nightmares were working, after all.

🪃⍾⍽ "You were scarier when we fought face t'face, Quinking! Now ya gotta resort t'bein' a boogeyman and stealin' th'faces of my loved ones? Wow, that's sad, mate!"

Ty laughed... a sound that was quickly stifled by the orange crystal spike that had been suddenly and violently lodged in his abdomen. Against all odds, he held back a scream of pain as he collapsed to his knees, a shaking paw grasping at the crystal spike. He watched helplessly as red mingled with orange fur before spilling onto the alien soil.

Fuck, that HURT.

💀⍾⍽ "You got a lotta nerve bein' so cheeky, rat," not-Sly sneered, now circling around the wounded marsupial like a vulture. "But please, feel free t'keep going; makes it more fun for us."

Ty just spat a mouthful of blood at the thing pretending to be his bro, teeth bared. He had managed to extract the shard from his torso, shaking violently: he couldn't bleed out and die for real, at least... right?

🪃⍾⍽ "F-Fuck you...!"

Of course that only earned him a kick in the snout from the fake Shazza, who giggled as the thylacine was sent sprawling prone.

🛻⍾⍽ "Feisty tonight! Where was that fire last time we spoke, Possum?" she cooed, kneeling down next to Ty, who by now was having a very hard time keeping up his facade of defiance.

He just wanted to wake up. Please someone WAKE HIM UP-

🛻⍾⍽ "Or do you hopelessly believe that you'll be the only victim in all this, and that your pitiful friends will remain safe from our wrath, my deluded little Atlas?"

A shuddering exhale as Ty attempted to lift his head, teeth bared in pain. He could taste way too much blood now.

🛻⍾⍽ "And we don't just mean your friends back home..."

🪃⍾⍽ "Wh-"

He blinked, before realization crept up over him like a sickly shroud.

💀⍾⍽ "Look down," the false Sly commanded, pointing to the ground. Its surface now resembling glass, Ty could see...

Silver, Comet, Eclipse, Jekia, Quatre, Nathan, Null, Whisper... just some of the dear new friends he had made outside of Southern Rivers, their smiling faces reflected back at him.

🪃⍾⍽ "B-But... th-they don't have anything t'do with this...!" he protested, staring back up at the doppelgangers with wide eyes. "They're innocent...!"

🛻⍾⍽ "Well now," 'Shazza' smirked, placing a boot upon the reflection of the small blue hedgehog. The mirrored surface cracked immediately, dispelling the image of Ty's new friends into shards that crumbled into black and purple dust.

🛻⍾⍽ "Should've thought about that before making friends with the sorry lot."

Seeing the image shatter and fade took the rest of what little bravado the marsupial had left, now resigned to staring helplessly at the spot where their faces used to be. Tears welled up in his eyes now, threatening to spill.

💀⍾⍽ "We believe the term is called... 'guilt by association'?"

The two doppelgangers chuckled darkly, watching in sadistic delight as Ty struggled to regain what little composure he could muster.

🪃⍾⍽ "You're not gonna get a chance to even touch 'em," he finally hissed, shooting one last tearful glare at the pair as he now attempted to stand upright, shaking from the effort. "You're gonna stay right here where you belong, Quinking...! That's a promise!"

Shazza and Sly looked at each other. Then they started to laugh, a loud, mocking sound that surrounded Ty on all sides and made his fur stand on end.

🛻⍾⍽ "Oh Possum, you already failed that though!" the fake dingo shook her head, still chuckling in amusement. "Unless you already forgot about-"

💎⍾⍽ "Me."

A huge wing had engulfed the thylacine now, forcing him to turn and stare into the piercing eyes of a massive wedge-tailed eagle.

🪃⍾⍽ "Y-You...!"

💎⍾⍽ "I'm disappointed, rat," the eagle hummed, towering over the marsupial with wings akimbo. "You've already forgotten how you're destined to fail."

Cruel talons scraped the ground as Illuka strode towards Ty, who backed up in turn, eyes wide. The doppelgangers of Shazza and Sly had disappeared; he was alone with the huge raptor.

💎⍾⍽ "You failed to kill me," they sneered. "And now I am inevitable. I will wrench everything you love from your bleeding paws and I will break every iota of you."

One of those huge talons rose up, and before the terrified thylacine could even react, the deadly appendage had slammed into his chest, pinning him roughly to the ground and forcing a yelp from his bloodied throat. A wicked, curved claw toyed with the space just below his ribcage, threatening to puncture the flesh.

💎⍾⍽ "And when I have broken you completely and utterly beyond repair, I will rebuild you in my image. And you will become the thing your loved ones fear the most."

The claw dug in now, and Ty could not hold back his cries anymore, weak, quivering paws trying in vain to push the huge talon off his chest. The pain seemed to be magnified tenfold here in this nightmare...

💎⍾⍽ "Now THAT... is a promise, you whelp."

That talon dug in further still, driving yet another yowl from the battered and bleeding marsupial; he squirmed and whimpered like a frightened little joey in the eagle's grasp, which tightened considerably as Illuka lifted their prey into the air.

💎⍾⍽ "It's time to wake up now, rat. Wake up and say goodbye to everything you hold dear. For I. Am. Inevitable."

Ty felt the rush of air as he was slammed back down towards the earth...

...and then he woke up. Finally, he was free!

He was barely aware of his surroundings at first; everything was a spinning blur and he felt like he was about to be sick. Where was he??

🪃⍾⍽ "Hhgh-"

Oh god, he really felt sick now... shuddering, he stumbled blindly for the nearest restroom or wastebin.

How much worse were things going to get for him, exactly? And even worse; how much worse would they get for his friends and family...?
