I guess sizing each other up is pretty normal, especially given the location. Still, Tokiwa please... Kento popping up and chiming in like that though.... pffft.

Shin-Maruko is a station not too far away from where we live - so sometimes we go there on foot whenever we are around Musashi-Kosugi area.
Gabouten is a small restaurant specialized in suigyoza - boiled dumplings. The shop owner was very nice and her dishes were delicious - I'm definitely going there again someday!

Sora’s Third (+ second) Year HCs, Accidental Part Two!
Okay so in my defense, I didn't plan on making a part two. It just happened. I say it’s 40% Taiei’s fault and 60% Tobi’s. Speaking of whom, most of these center around Tobi or feature him in large part, because he’s my favorite so my brain naturally gravitates towards creating ideas with him and struggles with the others. (Which is inconvenient.)
Also these cover Sora’s second and third year! So more of Momoharu and Chiaki!
Please read Part One first or none of this will make sense at all.
HCs themselves are below the cut to spare people from dealing with my post taking up their screen because it takes up like 9 pages of a Google doc, so.
In their second year, they lost to Taiei in the Kanto Tournament but then beat them to go to the Inter-high! Yay!
After that, Taiei and Kuzu take up having regularly practice matches, but it eventually morphs from “practice match” to “joint practice session where we share exercises and drills and do short causal scrimmages and we all f*ck around because we are, at the end of the day, high school boys.”
Sakamaki is starting to… regret some things. (Well, actually, Sakamaki is starting to regret all the things -- really, after the shtick with Yozan and Mineta at their first practice game, he should have seen this coming.)
It is primarily “will to beat Sho Gakuen” (which is a casually mentioned school that apparently beat Shinmaruko and Taiei) that brings them together.
During the sessions, Tobi and Fuwa nearly kill each other at least three times, and everyone is 100% certain that there are times that everyone else simply never found out about.
Nao: regret.jpg
Eventually, they do in a weird way, wind up becoming sort-of friends, and no one’s really sure how their relationship works. Including both of them.
Momoharu, who is still captain when this happens, is in the background like “oh my God no there’s another one.”
Turns out Sora and Yozan get along like a house on fire. They can practice side by side for hours. In fact, they’ll both go way beyond the usual number of shots they take when they practice together while chatting amiably and Nao and Sakamaki are this close to strangling them both. So is Momoharu.
They have twin sh*t-eating grins and it’s terrifying.
3rd Year Tobi: Oh f*ck there’s two of them.
Nao, eyes wide in horror: Oh f*ck, there’s two of them.
Tobi:
Tobi:
Tobi: I can’t explain how I know but I am 100% certain they are goin’ to prank me together.
Nao: Most probably.
Shiraishi technically retired after they didn’t make it to the inter-high, but he didn’t actually… retire. He’s still attending practice frequently since he needs to stay in shape for when he goes to university in the States. He got scouted by a large number of Japanese colleges but applied mostly to American ones and got into some good ones. He usually misses one or two practices a week because he’s juggling other stuff now, but he still occasionally crashes the joint sessions.
This is important because Chiaki hates him. And poor Shiraishi is so confused???
Shiraishi has no social skills whatsoever. And Chiaki basically goes, “Pretty boy? Popular? Point guard? Do not like.”
Momoharu: I’m really, really sorry about my brother.
Yakku is also around and as it turns out, he and Momoharu get along pretty well. Mostly because they’re the tired almost-parental figures of their teams. (Shiraishi is too much a mess for that are you kidding me???)
Yakku and Shiraishi do not get along (Yakku canonically tells Momoharu to foul and elbow Shiraishi during their game), Chiaki is constantly trying to strangle Shiraishi and Momoharu is just trying to stop the three of them from killing each other.
Momoharu: I hate everyone here why are people physically incapable of just being polite like responsible, normal humans?????
Shiraishi, tiredly: I know right?
Momoharu: NO, SHIRAISHI, YOU DO NOT GET TO TALK YOU’RE JUST AS BAD!!!!
Inter-school prank war? Heck yeah, Inter-school prank war!
It starts when Fuwa sees Tobi get pranked (Sora’s fault) and goes “oh hey that’s a good idea!" So on an afternoon when they’re having joint practice at Taiei, and Tobi had told both teams that he would be coming early to practice, he pranks Tobi too with a classic water bucket over the door, and Tobi actually just… dodges it.
Fuwa: Wait what
See, having had an ongoing prank war with Sora since the end of their first year, Tobi has very good reflexes for dodging things -- which he had already, but it’s gotten better -- and is also very good at spotting traps. Sora has learned to account for this, and the pranks and traps have gotten ridiculously convoluted at this point since he’s learned the hard way that the same thing will never work on Tobi twice. (Well, sometimes it will, but not reliably enough, and if it does Tobi will do the exact same prank and even though Sora knows it’s coming, he can’t dodge it. Tobi always manages to catch him off guard and yes he resents it what about it-)
Anyway, Tobi’s immediate reaction after he easily and surprisingly gracefully dodges the water is to holler “sORA YA LITTLE SH*T WE ‘AD A TRUCE-” and Fuwa is just “?????” Poor Sora is so confused because wait Tobi-kun it wasn’t actually me this time?
Sora swears up and down it wasn’t him, but Tobi is still suspicious, pranks Sora back anyway, and the truce is over. Everyone on Kuzu’s team groans. It was going so well for a while there-
Shortly afterward Tobi abruptly realizes that Sora was sick that day? And Tobi himself helped the others bully Sora into going home? There was literally no way he could have set up that trap because Nao had called his grandmother to make sure he stayed home. Tobi had seethed the whole afternoon before finding Sora in the evening to strangle him, having forgotten Sora was sick (Sora had actually just had heat stroke in the morning and gone home, so he was by that point fine, and joined in practice some time well into the evening.)
….And since it was a water bucket trap in the gym, the person who set it up would have needed to be in that gym before Tobi was and it was… Taiei’s gym.
And Tobi was the first member of Kuzuryu to arrive that day.
Oh, Tobi realizes. Oh. Then he skids into the clubroom yelling “CAPTAIN WE ‘AVE A PROBLEM,” and Momoharu probably swears and drops something.
Tobi insists on an emergency team meeting and explains what happened and Momoharu goes “...seriously?” and Tobi goes “YES SERIOUSLY WE NEED TA GET ‘EM BACK.”
Ohhhhhh no, the team thinks. This is going to be Tobi and Sora’s prank war all over again. Admittedly, all of them are sorely tempted to get involved, but they also… don’t want a repeat of that mess. Sora is still miffed that Tobi won’t apologize for pranking him unjustly and refuses to help. (Tobi is utterly unapologetic for that, by the way.)
But Chiaki decides to prank Shiraishi without consulting the others and it’s... it’s just all a mess from there.
Chiaki no. Chiaki what part of that seems like a good idea to you????
Shiraishi and all of Taiei are salty, and Fuwa goes “oh f*ck uhhhhh I have absolutely no idea why they did that.”
Yozan calls him out for pranking Tobi, because Yozan is probably omniscient. (“No? The entire team noticed, Hyou, you aren’t subtle-”)
Then someone bothers to go “wait why Shiraishi instead of Fuwa then?”
“....a good question.”
And Taiei just goes, “WELP, TIME TO PRANK THEIR ENTIRE TEAM” and it’s just… a mess. Shiraishi and Yakku try to stop them and fail. Sakamaki doesn’t even find out until far too late.
After a month of weekly massive scale pranks and the respective captain-coach duos suffering, it calms down a little.
Once third year starts, though… the coaches make the terrible decision to hold a joint Golden Week training camp at Taiei near the start of Sora and co’s third year. It’s pure chaos. Pranks left and right and up and down. Tobi and Sora are the tag-team from hell in a prank war, but Taiei soon realizes that the two are also pranking each other at least once a day.
“Training camp tradition!” Sora replies cheerfully when asked, while Tobi tries not to laugh in the background. “One prank a day!”
“It’s not a tradition if it’s just you two annoying the sh*t out of the rest of us for two years straight!” Nao yells in the background.
Fuwa and Yozan are a similar duo and they and the rest of the Taiei crew are good. Actually no. Scratch that. Yozan works best alone. Yozan is sneaky as all hell. (“What the actual crap, Yozan-kun??? Why do you just not make noise good God-” -Sora)
But Sora and Tobi are just better.
It’s literally just experience from pranking each other for this long. They got good at it.
Speaking of coaches, one of Yuka and Sakamaki’s other college friends decides to coach Kuzu, but mostly actually handles the training part; she lets Nao handle tactics. She also coaches the girls’ team, so joint practices! She also has no tolerance for highschool boys being perverts. She’s great.
If the games overlap she leaves Nao in charge of the boys since Nao knows them better anyway, and then shows up as soon as she can.
Mineta is Taiei’s captain and Yozan is vice-captain because Shiraishi looked Sakamaki dead in the eyes three seconds after they lost his last game (against Kuzuryu), before even leaving the court, and said flatly, “if you even think about putting Kamiki or -- god forbid -- Hyou in charge of this team, I will actually riot, because if you do somebody will literally die the second I take my eyes off of them.” Sakamaki gaped at him like a fish for ten seconds and then slowly nodded, and that was the end of that.
Yakku, vehemently: I f*cking second that.
On another topic entirely, Tobi's aunt is great because I am not giving Tobi another sh*tty parental figure.
Young plausibly lesbian aunt who struggled to look after a kid and tried to guide him and kind of failed at first but it now succeeding? Yes please.
She’s his mom’s younger sister.
She really did struggle a lot at first and kind of let him do his own thing and then realized after he got expelled that, "Ah, that is Not A Viable Option with this kid."
Tobi, you're my entire favorite character, but you're so problematic I-
Anyway, Tobi has gotten a lot better since his aunt figured out how to Parent despite having the Most Problematic Teenager Ever dumped on her at twenty-six.
Tobi how are you -- how do you even manage to be this problematic it’s honestly astounding.
His stepfather 110% assuredly does not realize she's a lesbian otherwise Tobi would not have been sent to her.
(She kind of has a gf and hasn't told Tobi, but Tobi knows anyway, and he is absolutely determined to figure out who it is.)
She eventually hits her limit after Tobi has a nightmare in which his biodad and Juri die. A few days after, when she’s sure he’s going to be okay, she tells Tobi, “hey kid I’ve got a business trip,” and then gets on a train to Hiroshima, and storms into his parents’ house yelling “how DARE you two rip this child away from his family and friends at a time when he needed support more than ever! Do you have any idea how awful you’ve been to Kenji?!” She goes on for at least fifteen minutes, then leaves and takes Juri to get ice cream and very seriously considers taking Juri back to Kanagawa with her, but realizes her brother-in-law would likely call the police on her for kidnapping.
So basically:
Tobi’s aunt: THAT’S MY SON NOW.
His mom and stepdad: Wha-
Aunt: M I N E.
That’s... kind of when his mom realizes she can’t keep doing this to her kids.
(Juri reaches middle school and nopes right out of there and goes to a boarding school. Tobi breathes a massive sigh of relief he hadn’t realized he was holding.)
Tobi actually doesn’t know what his aunt did until a year or two later and he actually cries when he finds out and goes “HOLY SH*T WHAT???”
His aunt’s response when he barges into the room ask her about it is basically, “Kiddo, you can’t expect me to just leave that kind of thing alone. Not when you got hurt. I care about you.”
Tobi throws himself at her and hides his face in her shoulder and lets her hold him and even though he’s crying, she doesn’t say anything about it, so he doesn’t say anything about the occasional drop of water he can feel falling onto his head.
Tobi apparently has a canonically far worse backstory than the “condensed version” that appeared in the manga! Yay! (Not.) Oh my God this child needs a godd*mn hug.
So: imagine gangs, child abuse, what have you, because his full backstory is apparently only known to the managaka. But his aunt is having none of it. I am also having none of it. Tobi gets a good aunt. F*ck you.
And the team is making sure he gets those very much needed hugs.
Karasaws has canonically adopted Tobi and you can’t change my mind.
I don’t want to spoil anything but basically Tobi gets hurt, and the rest of the team buys his bluff about him being fine but Karasawa happened to be at the tournament and hunts Tobi down and goes “you are going to the doctor right now I’m having none of this where is your advisor you little shit?”
Tobi: uhhhh oops.jpg?
Karasawa: YOU THINK?!
Also canonical:
Satsuki-sensei, afterwards: So sorry for the trouble…
Karasawa, grouchily: Believe me when I say this is not the worst this kid has done to me.
Karasawa canonically being a healthy adult in Tobi’s life is just -- YES.
Y’all are not gonna believe why Tobi was late to the Taiei game. I wanted to physically put my hands through my screen and strangle him when I read that part.
All I’ll say is Karasawa deserves a break and Tobi is dumb.
Back in Sora/Tobi’s second year, when Tobi needed to be physically held back, Momoharu would just grab him like,“‘kay not doin’ that today.” Sometimes when Momoharu wasn’t there, Chiaki would have to do it, but it was fine.
Third year has rolled around and things are… very not fine.
See, Mokichi is bigger than Tobi, but he’s also very, very noodley, whereas Tobi is some 185-90 cm of muscle.
Tobi has not skipped leg day in his life. Are you kidding me? He canonically yeets himself the distance from the three point line to the basket in a single step in his first scene. Nearly all of his strength is in his lower body. Once he actually starts doing exercises with weights, he gets not only faster, but manages to jump way higher.
And yes, I headcanon Tobi dunking on top of Fuwa at some point. They’re the same height and Fuwa has dunked, sue me.
Most of Tobi is wirey/whipcord muscle since that’s just his body type but he’s still rather strong and very physically fit, and this poses some issues when it comes to Tobi wanting to fight people.
Sora and Nao are both small, despite Sora being very physically fit, and they’re effectively useless in restraining him. (He’s canonically about 30 cm taller than both; that is an entire foot. Have you ever tried to restrain someone a foot taller than you? It is very difficult.)
Literally it takes all three of them to physically restrain him when he’s angry enough. Sora and Nao will both cling to his legs while Mokichi just basically wraps him in a bear hug and Tobi very angrily tries to struggle free and stomp towards his target as he had initially planned. The unvarying reaction to this sight from literally everyone except the team alumni is “what on earth are those kids doing?????”
Listen. Tobi has very deeply ingrained “big brother” instincts from being Juri’s big brother, which is where his “protecc teammates” and “team big sibling/parent” behavior stems from, and when someone hurts someone he’s gone and accidentally gotten attached to, you bet he’s going to throw hands.
Thank god for Mokichi and his longass noodle arms or else Tobi would probably have broken a few bones by now. (This is, however, under the rather bold assumption that he hasn’t done so -- if he has, the team doesn’t know about it at least, with the exception of Nakamura.) (Nakamaru is Nao’s mean ex-boyfriend from hc post #1.)
Thankfully, the combination of “longass noodle restrains” and “two entire other humans clinging to his legs” generally manages to restrain Tobi. It, admittedly, will sometimes only achieve the purpose of making him angrier, but usually they manage to calm him down.
This happens once when the football (American soccer) team leaves a cigarette butt in the basketball clubroom in order to get them in trouble and Tobi finds out and is furious. He tries to physically strangle the captain, and the other three barely hold him back.
Tobi’s accent, after three years in Kanagawa, has softened a little, but it gets stronger when he’s angry/flustered/emotional.
This happens when he confronts Nakamura.
However, it actually primarily happens during sappy friendship/team bonding moments. The only reliable way to tell if Tobi is embarrassed is by how strong his accent is, because he can’t control it when he is. He tries to. He fails. Tobi usually has a good poker face, but if he’s failing to control his accent, the embarrassment from that will make him flustered too and then it’s just a vicious cycle of him getting more flustered.
For relationship headcanons with him, it’s that times twenty, and Tobi’s accent will get so strong that sometimes someone has to go “You said that too fast for me to understand with your accent so I literally have no idea what you just said.”
You can sometimes hear a hint of the Nagano dialect when Sora’s really, really flustered. It mostly shows up on how he pronounces vowels and things though. Not really entire words. (I am assuming Sora speaks in the Tokyo dialect, because he is never mentioned to have an accent in translations.)
Tobi and Yasu are close friends and 2nd year Tobi could regularly be found crashing at Yasu’s, much to Yasu’s annoyance.
Unfortunately for Yasu, his parents adore Tobi.
Actually we get a short glimpse in the manga of Tobi stopping by Yasu’s and Yasu’s dad calls him “Kenji-kun” so we can assume that Tobi has been there pretty often.
Does Tobi just mooch off all his friends?
Probably.
No seriously he canonically does this. Like he also gets a part-time job, to his credit (again, canon). But he also mooches off his friends, so.
But his friends mooch off his employer, so I guess it’s even?
They crash at the place he works at and it’s so funny.
Tobi just wants them to leave but his employers are like “aw what nice boys” and Tobi is just like “nO!”
Chiaki crashes practice like twice a week. He’s attending university in Tokyo, and still playing basketball, but he keeps coming back.
Nao has gotten very accomplished at deflecting Chiaki at this point and Momoharu has a fair amount of blackmail that is just videos of Nao shutting Chiaki down in the most polite yet explicit terms possible. It’s hilarious.
Nao gives Chiaki no room for hoping -- think things like “I’m not interested in you that way,” but in the nicest way ever.
Sora and Tobi are wheezing in the background.
The first years are terrified of Chiaki until they see him around Nao and then they’re like “?” and the second and third years are like “yea he’s just kind of weird.”
Momoharu, kicking the doors open: GODD*MNIT CHIAKI WE GRADUATED FOR F*CK’S SAKE-
The first years: ??!?!?!?!!??!?!?!?
Nao, tiredly: That’s his twin and the captain from last year. Don’t worry he doesn’t bite, he’s actually quite nice.
Sora is thrilled to see Momoharu, actually, and also quite happy to see Chiaki, but also like “please get out I’m in charge now thank you.”
Momoharu doesn’t question Sora’s authority for half a second though, when the second years (who were first years in his third year) reflexively go to look to him he immediately goes “Nope I’m not in charge here sorry,” and yanks Sora over from whatever he was doing before. So that’s no problem.
Momoharu usually only visits to chase down his brother. While they don’t attend the same university, Momoharu is still like, “Please leave our kouhai alone good God-”
But he sometimes stops by when he’s in the neighborhood and just sits on the sidelines for an hour and then goes out for snacks/dinner with the third years.
He’s also useful for basketball advice, and more than willing to give it. The first years soon realize that Momoharu is actually a dork and is very happy to help them train, especially those with shooting problems.
He’s also very, very useful when people aren’t listening and are being chaotic. Nao has taken advantage of his presence to keep her fellow third years in line, in particular, on a few occasions.
But basically, the third years can’t get rid of their senpai and they’re all tired.
Sora and Nao try to assert authority as captain and coach respectively and fail and one time, it takes Tobi physically threatening to beat them up (he very specifically says, “or so help me God this will turn into a repeat of the day I met y’all”) to get them to leave so the team can have a practice match.
Momoharu is the only one with actual permission to hang around because he’s the only one who’s not disruptive.
Scratch that. Momoharu is the only one who is only mildly disruptive. He’s still disruptive.
The bar is low.
Nao, exasperated: Do you not have university or work or anything?
Nabe, cheerfully: We’ve got the free time!
Mokichi, under his breath: What lazy senpai.
Mokichi is secretly so snarky and I love him for it.
Chiaki, probably: I HEARD THAT-
Nao does not ever let her hair get long ever again nope no thank you tried that once did not like never again.
Mokichi and Tobi both have longer hair than her, actually. Tobi’s hair kind of poofs so it looks shorter than it actually is, but when it’s wet and therefore stuck to his head, it’s actually somewhat long. Look at Tobi with the box row style to see the length his hair goes to when it goes down instead of up.
But most of the time it’s just: “Kenji-kun you kind of look like a bush-”
“I KNOW THAT NAO, THANK YA VERY MUCH.”
Mokichi was bullied into getting his bangs cut shorter by Sora during second year and is no longer able to hide behind them.
Sora: Mokichi-kun, I can’t see your face. Please. Just cut your bangs.
Tobi: The shorty actually has a point, for once in his life.
Sora: Do you want to fight me Tobi-kun?!
Nao, ignoring them: I think you’d be able to aim better in games too.
Mokichi does eventually get around to it, and the others make him keep them short by threatening to put him in Sora’s grandma’s hands. Since he’s been there once, this is astoundingly effective.
Positions are… eeeeehhhhhh?
Mokichi still plays center, though they sometimes let him play other positions in practice and in-house games because why not, he wants to and playing other positions can be good for improving your approach towards your primary one.
Sora is PG 90% of the time and on rare occasions switches to SG when absolutely necessary.
He and Tobi are the best 3P shooters on the team, so if Tobi is out for some reason Sora will sometimes let someone else take over as PG to focus solely on attacking. Basically, since Tobi is one of their primary scoring machines, taking him out puts a dent in their scoring ability. So giving Sora free reign on offense to just go wild is necessary in the rare case.
Sora has actually learned how to switch pretty quickly between the mindsets for the playmaker and a point-getter. Nao and Chiaki decided he needed to be able to around second year, so he trained switching between the two settings a lot. It meant they lost a couple practice games, but oh well. It’s worth it, because Tobi gets injured (again) (same f*cking ligament and yeah Tobi’s salty about it) and Sora just switches to SG, Mokichi takes C, Yasu takes SF and Momoharu takes PF, freeing up Chiaki to play PG (briefly) in Sora’s place. Or everyone holds the same positions, and a first year plays PG.
Tobi’s position is definitely the f*ckiest of the three, and now that Chiaki is gone, the f*ckiest on the team.
He was second f*ckiest when Chiaki was still around, the order from most to least being Chiaki, Tobi, Sora, Momoharu, and then Mokichi. At one point he was one of the less screwy ones, but that changed.
Mokichi never switched around, Momoharu was only ever C/PF, and since Chiaki became C/SF, Momoharu has only been PF.
Sora’s position is, indeed, rather f*cky, but since he settled in to be a shooting PG he’s been fine. The only technical difficulties arise when Tobi is unable to play and they need someone to score a sh*t ton of points for some reason. Normally, removing Tobi from the equation doesn’t take the team out of running -- and it never has (well, except for the Kitasumi game), because Chiaki, Mokichi, and PG Sora also have good scoring power -- but if they’re in a high-paced point war then it’s like “ah.”
At one point Tobi was solidly a SG and a SG only but since Tobi still retained a forward’s mindset, if they needed him to it was really easy to swap him back to SF. And then in second year some part of Nao’s brain went “PG Tobi” and Tobi fell into it surprisingly well. Of course, he still has a forward’s mindset, so he’s not a fantastic PG, but he’s always had a great sense for the game. For manga readers, think of a style something like Nino but slightly more forward-y.
Nino is great we like Nino.
So he can play PG when Sora can’t for some reason -- usually injury or exhaustion -- but he usually doesn’t bother, and if he does, it’s maybe for a quarter at most. Tobi’s of far more use as a point getter, and Sora is a far better PG that Tobi anyway. If Sora can’t play, usually someone else takes his place, not Tobi.
There’s literally no point in SG Sora and PG Tobi though, so that combo never happens, because they’re both of more use in their default positions and there’s no point in swapping just those two.
Using Tobi as PG is actually mostly useful if they really need to change the flow of the game. It basically guarantees a high-paced game of fast breaks, because Tobi is as fast as a bat outta hell and going to take advantage of it.
Time number one, in second year, Sora got hurt halfway through the game and they couldn’t afford to take Chiaki out of the inside against their opponent, who had a very strong inside. So Tobi was PG for a quarter while Sora recovered. It was effectively a surprise attack, actually, so it worked really well. (Sora came back partway through Q4 and Tobi switched back to SG.)
The best players in the prefecture are considered to be Yozan, Fuwa, a third year and a second year from Sho Gakuen, and of course, Sora, Tobi, and Mokichi.
Fuwa and Tobi are kind of tied for first because while everyone keeps saying/thinking that Fuwa is better, and “Fuwa will definitely surpass him this time because he’s the better player!” Tobi just kind of keeps on… literally dumping Fuwa on his ass.
Tobi makes a point to practice ankle-breakers.
Just to perform them on Fuwa.
Just to spite him.
Yozan is wheezing in the background somewhere.
Back in their second year, then-3rd-year Yakku turned to look at Tobi after Taiei beat Kuzuryu in the Kanto Tournament and said flatly, “Please throw Hyou on his ass next time, he’s getting too smug,” and walked off with Shirarishi muttering “he really is” and following him as Tobi stared after them, gaping.
Tobi, however, proceeds to do just that in the inter-high prelims.
Yakku actually cackles at Fuwa’s face as he helps Fuwa to his feet, and then jogs up to Tobi to high-five him. Shirarshi, grinning, comes up on his other side. Tobi is confused, but high-fives them both as Fuwa shrieks indignantly in the background and Sakamaki tries really, really hard not to laugh.
Sakamaki, internally: I am supposed to be the adult here I am supposed to be the adult here I am supposed to be the adult here-
The rest of Kuzu High, including Nao, are just in stitches. Momoharu takes a solid two minutes to stop laughing. Sakamaki has to call a timeout to calm down the indignant Fuwa and also so everyone can stop wheezing and catch their breath.
Yozan is covering his mouth with his hand and also trying not to laugh, and Fuwa scowls at him.
“You really were getting a little full of yourself there,” Sakamaki says, the corner of his mouth trembling.
Fuwa holds a grudge.
Tobi couldn’t care less, he’s wearing a sh*t-eating grin.
The second year at Sho Gakuen is a very tall power-based center. A lot like Chiba. The other top-notch center in the prefecture besides Mokichi.
It’s really interesting seeing them play each other, because Mokichi is a technical center while Sho’s dude is a power center.
I don’t have a name for him yet, but he’s all about dunks and stuff and his aim is… very poor.
Mokichi, on the other hand, out-scores him by a longshot, because of his skill with hooks.
Mineta is Good but he’s not That Good, I’m sorry.
The third year at Sho Gakuen is a very skilled PG, but he’s also like 190 cm or something.
Sora and Yozan are less recognized as good PGs and more recognized as terrifying 3P shooters and also very, very good short players.
Sora has managed to become the better PG of the two, though.
Yozan still has his freaky long-court vision thing that Sora does not have, but Sora still syncs with his team better and with far more ease than Yozan.
Yozan always knows where Fuwa is on the court, just from the squeak of his shoes and also just from like… the feeling of him, while Sora always knows where both Tobi and Mokichi are and 90% of the time he knows where whoever else is on the court it too. See the next bullet for more.
Sora has ooooo spooky magic ability to know where his teammates are and honestly the others are so beyond questioning it.
Nao spent a while going “WHAT EVEN IS THAT” and Mokichi was just like, “Nao-san, please just accept that Sora-kun is kind of weird and move on,” and she eventually did some time in their third year.
Mokichi actually spent a long time silently questioning it and trying to figure out what was going on, meanwhile after the third time Sora displayed this skill Tobi just went “...well okay then?” and just practiced his shooting off to the side while Mokichi and Nao stared at Sora in confusion every time it happened from there on out.
As a result of Yozan being Yozan, two-handed shots have gotten more popular in boys’ games in Kanagawa and surrounding areas.
Sora can pick out Tobi, Mokichi, and Nao’s footsteps on the court just using his hearing, because he’s so familiar with the cadence of their steps.
As mentioned above, Yozan can kind of do this with Fuwa.
Sora can also do this for Chiaki and Momoharu quite easily, and to some extent, Yasu, Chuckie, and Nabe.
However, it’s the easiest with his yearmates. He’s played with them for three years now, and he knows them extremely well.
Actually, he can pick them out when they’re not in the gym making squeaky noises, or even when they’re walking instead of running, just based on sound. Someone walking up to the closed gym door? Oh yeah, Sora says, that’s Kenji-kun.
The gym doors open two seconds later and it is, indeed, one Natsume “Tobi” Kenji.
The first years: ?????? How did you -- what the-
“Are you kidding me of course that’s Kenji-kun. Do you have any idea how few people just -- saunter like that????? I could pick out Kenji-kun’s stride from a kilometer away.”
The first years:
The first years: What-
The second years: Yeah he just... does that sometimes.
Tobi: I feel like I’m supposed ta be offended by the saunterin’ comment but oddly I’m not?
This and part one are both ship free, but there are posts building off these for both Sora/Nao and Sora/Tobi!
