However the motherhood of our victims is not the same as that which we celebrate today. It is a motherhood forced upon the innocent by our repeated violation of their defenceless bodies. It is a travesty of motherhood, where our contemptuous exploitation of their reproduction actually depends upon their being forcibly separated from their infants. And being sentient individuals who feel as we do, this separation inflicts such anguish, a misery that we ourselves hope never to experience. Despite our elaborate pretences that we 'love animals', the truth is that our species revels in violence and domination and our consumer demand for their flesh, their breast milk and their eggs perpetuates nightmares beyond the worst that we are capable of imagining. Every use we make of the bodies and the lives of individuals of other species – whatever their species - is a deliberate choice to harm them. In honour of #Februdairy, here’s me exploring @AbbotsfordConvent before an awesome pay-as-you-wish vegan meal with @Brarandn at @LentilAsAnything_Abbotsford in my new #AntiDairySocialClub hoodie. 🙅🏻‍♂️🐄🥛 When you pay for dairy products, you are undeniably paying for cruelty and suffering. Cows are highly social animals with strong maternal bonds. In the dairy industry, they are kept in a constant cycle of pregnancy so their bodies keep producing milk. They suffer emotionally when they are repeatedly separated from their young so humans can drink the milk that is intended for them. They suffer physically from the strain of constant pregnancy, mastitis, denial of physical freedom, removal of body parts without anesthesia, and general treatment as economic units of production rather than living beings (even nice farmers are running a business), before being killed when their production slows at only a fifth of their natural lifespan. Baby males are separated from their mothers within days and killed or raised briefly for veal. Baby females are fed back into the system. Dairy production is unimaginably resource-intensive and environmentally destructive, consuming vast amounts of water and emitting vast quantities of greenhouse gases. Humans do not need to drink the milk of another species to thrive. Any benefits of dairy can be obtained elsewhere without the many detriments. Sexually assaulting male cows to steel their seamen (bestiality). Anal fisting and rod raping females to force pregnancy (bestiality & rape) Steeling and murdering male calf's as they are deemed nothing more than a waste product (kidnap & infanticide), or forcing the female calf's back into the same system of enslavement and exploitation (mental torture).
