If we look at the various social justice causes that most self-identified progressives currently support, many of these causes are working to dismantle forms of oppression and discrimination that are based on the idea that some bodies are "less than" others. Racism, sexism, heterosexism, transphobia, ethnocentrism, ableism, sizeism... all of these forms of discrimination are based on devaluing and oppressing others on the basis of the bodies they were born into. . When the mechanism of the oppressions you are fighting is the idea that some bodies are less than, what sense does it make to endorse this ideology elsewhere? That is like putting out a fire with one hand while the other lights a match. To reject forms of oppression that are based on the color, gender identity, sexual orientation, size, ethnicity or ability of a body, while simultaneously endorsing the oppression of other bodies based on their species— is morally inconsistent, ideologically incoherent, and counter-productive to true and meaningful anti-oppression work. .
