If we take Azula in The Beach as an unreliable narrator - because we never actually see any evidence that Ursa played favorites with her kids or thought Azula was a monster - then it makes for a really nice parallel between her and Zuko, and how they respond to their parents.
Zuko spent three years trying to win his father's approval. He convinced himself that Ozai was a good man who deserved his love and loyalty, but he needed to realize that Ozai was the monster instead.
Azula, on the other hand, hasn't seen her mother in five years, and for three years she's been essentially isolated with Ozai. She's convinced herself that her mother thought she was a monster, that she never had her mother's love, when in reality it was her mother who did love her. Ozai's constant praise of her was just a way to control her, to validate and encourage her worst impulses, but it made her feel good so she assumed that her mother's scolding meant that Ursa didn't love her as much.
Zuko wanted to believe that his father loved him in spite of how cruel Ozai was to him, while Azula chose to believe that her mother didn't love her because Ursa didn't praise her the way that Ozai did.
And both of them were wrong.

so I finished this fic last night that was like a short cute modern AU and I usually like those but if that cutesiness goes past wx and extends into lwj's relationship with the other siblings it gets kind of funny. like I can see him being warm to jyl and getting close with her, but there is no universe in which he does not dislike jc at least a little. and I think he literally views jzx as a coworker and would at most be willing to sit with him in companionable silence. so this wholesome line about how happy lwj is to have been welcomed into the jiang family gave me a chuckle. it's literally just jyl he likes

if tdp wasn't *technically* a kids show, soren and rayla would be drinking budies
think about it: the dragangs boat ports to get supplies and these two come back acting weird like they're hiding smth
later that night after everyone goes to bed, soren and rayla sneak back up onto the deck
callum (still being suspicious of rayla) follows them to listen in on their conversation, and just hears a (drunken) big feelings time.
neither of these two have a stable support system, with rayla's family being capital and sorens family being evil, so they lean on each other.
they're the perfect opposites but in the same way besties.
soren not knowing you have to water down elven liquor and getting absolutely wasted
rayla teaching him elven drinking games
them both being insanely hungover the next day-

@fatexbound asked:
❝ you seemed troubled in your sleep, even for you. nightmares? ❞ (Mitsuru)
GOD OF WAR: RAGNAROK STARTERS
"When is it not nightmares?"
He didn't mean his answer to come out so harsh, years of putting up walls for his own safety just instinctively taking over, certainly not hindered by lack of sleep, which generally makes his brain-to-mouth filter much thinner than usual.
He mutters a soft 'désolé', gazing at his sister apologetically as he takes another drag from his cigarette, blowing the smoke out from the open window he's perched on, looking into the night sky like a poet of gone times contemplating his woes before putting them on paper.
"I never sleep well, not ever since... that night. Recent happenings haven't made finding rest any easier..." he admits softly, a rare show of vulnerability, something not even his own sister has seen much of. Aragaki-kun's tragic fate, his father's murder, Ikutsuki's betrayal, that girl from Strega...
People often accuse him of being harsh, of not caring at all...
Truth is, Chuuya Nakahara (born Kirijo) cares far too much, often to his own detriment. He wouldn't wake up with pained screams and wails of agony ringing in his ears otherwise, wouldn't be so adamant to the point of aggressiveness, wouldn't be awake at 3 AM, making his sister worry for him on top of everything else already piling up on her shoulders...
"I'll be alright." 'I have to' "Go back to sleep Mitsu, you have school tomorrow." He gives her a small smile which he hopes looks reassuring, reaching out with his free hand to gently pat the top of her head.
