It's basically story, where Wei Wuxian transmigrates from modern times into cultivator setting, summoned by mistake, by his counter-part here and basically hijacked their body? In cultivator setting, Wei Wuxian was also known as a Yilling Laozu - ancient and mad with grief over Lans killing his husband few hundreds years ago. The present Lan Wangji is reincarnation of said husband, but due Yilling Laozu Wei Wuxian not letting him go, he couldn't properly reincarnate or something? Like - he is still man's husband, Lan Wangji, but a little bit different and that stops him from falling in love with YL WWX?

(There was also something about how this Wei Ying was summoned, because Lan Wangji from that universe probably died, before they had a chance to meet.)

Anyway, after getting (i think?) stabbed by Lan Wangji he got taken to Cloud Recess, then he somehow winded up in Lotus Pier, growing close with Jiang siblings. Also, Wei Wuxian from the modern times was some kind of doctor or inventor (?) and he tried bringing some modern solutions there.

17. For fic finder, I remember it was a multichap canon dovergent wangxian fic with inventor wwx. Tho I am not sure if that tag was used. The most notable part of it was Madam Jin bringing evidence of jgs putting his lot in with wrh complete with bills, transactions, correspondences etc. Jgs tries to discredit her by being a misogynist. That's when madam Jin uses a wwx custom binding spell on him and then says "I am a quick study when I want to be" to wwx and then she says "thank you for your instruction" because she learned the spell from jzx who saw wwx teach it to jc in cloud recesses lectures. There was one particular scene where wwx is just hanging out with other lan spouses and they are all complaining about their husband but wwx is silent cause lwj treats him really well..After he says so one of the women say "how long will it take your husband to realise if I kill you and take your place?" To which wwx replies "like right away"

He builds a garden with various monuments one of which is a boulder tied down with ropes to represent the Xuanwu. Eventually he senses something and goes to the burial mounds where he drags a reborn WWX from the blood pool. He takes him home to rehabilitate. On the way he stops at an inn to bathe him. The backstory that I want to know the most from MDZS is Madam Lan. I have so many questions about how that story went.

Why did she kill the teacher? I doubt it was just a fun little murder she committed cause if it was then they never would have let her live let alone let her children be the heirs of the sect. Plus a woman killing a man in a position of power is usually for a good reason.

If she and Qingheng-jun were in seclusion in different houses, how did Wangji and Xichen come about? Like did they have conjugal visits with each other or something? Was it only because Qingheng-jun needed and heir? If so, why was Wangji also allowed to be born?

How did she die? Was it suicide because she was confined to a home and only allowed to see her children once a month? Did she get sick?

Why were her children only allowed to see her once a month? That is a really long time to go in between visits especially for kids who were probably taken away from her right after being born.

I just think there is a lot about her that needs to be explained.

The elders of the Lan Sect have a lot of powers.

The Father of Lan Xichen and Lan Wangji could marry their mother to save her life but the elders forced both of them to reclusion. They decided to take away of Madam Lan her sons as soon they were born, authorizing only one visit by month. They maybe poisonned her at the end.

When Lan Wangji hurted members of his own sect to protect Wei Wuxian, they cast aside Lan Xichen's opinion/decision because he would show favoristim (of course he would). They outmatched the order of their leader because Lan Wangji WAS Lan Xichen's brother. "So sect leader will not be neutral". They also decided of the 3 years of seclusion.

Lan Xichen has only managed to decide that A-Yuan would not be taken away of his brother, like they had been from their mother.

When Lan Xichen go to self-seclusion at the end, the elders decide that he's not worth of being the leader of their sect anymore. They decide to slowly poison him, like they poisoned his mother. And so make Lan Wangji the new sect leader.

Lan xichen become more and more weak and fall sick and Lan Wangji and Wei Wuxian realise just in time the problem and save Xichen. Lan Wangji becomes super protective.

Bonus if, because of the poison, in his sickness, Xichen starts to be delirious and speak to both Mingjue and Meng Yao. With despair for the first, begging for forgiveness, telling him he still loves him, and anger for the other, asking him why.

of couse he'll recovers, because he has now a protection squad who will not let him suffer alone.

The elders will now face a little brother fury. Lan Zhan is angry, VERY angry.

Lan Qiren discovers all they have done and is shocked.

Wei Ying smiles like the sun.

When they were younger, Lan Wangji had felt scorched by it. It had seared into his bones and behind his retinas, ivory-bright and burning, and so, for fear of what would become of him if he looked too long, he had turned away.

Now the clouds have covered the sun, and it shines through so rarely that every glimpse of it is a treasure beyond reason or compare, and so -- even though he knows he should not -- Lan Wangji creeps forward on silent footsteps, peering a little closer, desperate in a wordless, formless, twisting way for even a glimpse, even a glimmer, even a tiny flash of that smile.

The bunny burrows deeper into Wei Ying's robes, and he grins, and it is like Lan Wangji is standing in the sun again after so many weeks of rain.

Then the wind shifts. Lan Wangji's robes, his ribbon, his hair suddenly lift and carry out far enough to catch the corner of Wei Ying's eye, and the clouds return so quickly Lan Wangji feels dizzy with it, feels sick. Wei Ying's back goes perfectly straight, and his face falls into an expression of cold neutrality. Lan Wangji has to clench his jaw to choke back a cry of despair.

His husband turns to face him without actually looking at him. Wei Ying solutes him with formality and grace. Greets him with "Hanguang-Jun."

The sun is gone again.

The sun is gone, and there is nothing Lan Wangji can do to bring it back -- not when he is the cloud that covers it. He should have turned away as soon as he saw Wei Ying in the field. He should not have intruded on this private moment of happiness, not when Wei Ying seems to experience happiness so rarely, now.

Lan Wangji returns the bow, greets his husband. Tells him "I am being sent on a night-hunt. I will depart this evening, and estimate it will take me three days to return."

Wei Ying does not ask to come along. His eyes do not light up in curiosity, he does not bounce on his knees and pester Lan Wangji for information about where he is going or what he is hunting. All Wei Ying does is incline his head and say "Alright."

Come with me, Lan Wangji wants to say, but he knows he hasn't the right. Wei Ying is likely relieved to have Lan Wangji out of his hair for a few days. Maybe, without Lan Wangji there to cast a shadow over him, Wei Ying will allow himself to smile.

I didn't mean to take it from you. I didn't know I could. I didn't realize how much power I had, how much I was hurting you. I would do anything to make you happy here. I wish I could figure out how.

Lan Wangji accepts the dismissal for what it is. He turns, and leaves, and hopes his husband will breathe easier with him gone. Maybe he should start taking more night hunts.

He doesn't know how long Lan Zhan has been standing there, but it's definitely been long enough to see Wei Wuxian rolling around in the dirt with the rabbits like an idiot. He tries to correct his posture, schools his face. Maintain a proper seat. Do not smile for no reason. Excessive displays of emotion are prohibited. Act with decorum.

It isn't enough. By the time he has himself presentable, Lan Zhan is visibly grinding his teeth. Even from here, Wei Wuxian can see the way his jaw flexes when he clenches it. He's expecting to be scolded -- pets aren't allowed in Cloud Recesses, and this clearing technically isn't in the bounds of Cloud Recesses but no Lan has ever cared about technicality when it came to obeying their rules. (Or punishing people for not obeying their rules.)

Still, it isn't Lan Zhan's fault that Wei Wuxian is exactly as much of a terrible husband as Madam Yu always told him he would be, so he salutes exactly as is proper between married spouses and calls Lan Zhan by his title, as respectfully as he can.

Lan Zhan bows back, and doesn't immediately drag Wei Wuxian off to be punished. Huh.

Maybe... maybe he appreciates the attempt?

Wei Wuxian is trying. He's trying so fucking hard. Does Lan Zhan see that? Does he -- does that mean anything to him? Does it matter to him that Wei Wuxian is trying as hard as he can, even though he keeps fucking up?

"I am being sent on a night-hunt. I will depart this evening, and estimate it will take me three days to return."

Ah. He's just in a hurry, then. That makes more sense.

Wei Wuxian nods. Says "Alright," to show he understands. Lan Zhan will probably pass his punishment on to someone else, then, or he'll decide what to do about Wei Wuxian when he gets back.

The stupid, childish part of Wei Wuxian that refuses to fucking learn wants to say be safe or come back to me. Wants to take Lan Zhan's hand in his and kiss the backs of his knuckles as a goodbye. Wants to help him pack, and see him off at the gates. Wei Wuxian has accepted that he'll never step foot outside the Cloud Recesses again, so going with Lan Zhan isn't an option for him, but at least a proper goodbye, at least something --

He crushes that stupid, childish part of himself as ruthlessly as he can. He has bothered Lan Zhan more than enough. The poor man is literally trapped with him now, and Wei Wuxian still can't be a decent husband for him. Lan Zhan deserves a few days to himself.

He knots his hands in the skirt of his robes, and bites his tongue hard enough to hurt, and doesn't move, and doesn't speak, and doesn't lift his eyes from the fluffy back of the little white rabbit until his husband's footsteps have vanished down the path, and Wei Wuxian is alone again.

I have read a number of stories that begin with Lan Wangji attempting to rescue Wen Yuan in the Burial Mounds and ending up in Lotus Pier with Jiang Wanyin. This series has one such tale, and a broad realignment of what comes after throughout the three stories. Overall, the series is a fun read, with the third story ending on a hopeful note.

"Fuck, yeah, he's really sick," Jiang Wanyin said. "I'm surprised you didn't take him to the Cloud Recesses. They'd have helped him."

"They do not help," Lan Zhan said, swaying as the last of his strength drained away and the room began to retreat down a long, echoing tunnel of grey. "They only crush children into their mold. I could not do that to Wei Ying's son."

"What?" Jiang Wanyin's so distant face asked. "The hell? Are you all right…?"

"No," Lan Zhan replied honestly because the habit of perfect honesty wasn't one he could shed even when he was dying. "I'm not."

The distant vision of Jiang Wanyin's face contorted in a startled shout as darkness rushed in at Lan Zhan. It didn't matter. Nothing mattered anymore. A-Yuan was safe. He would be healed.

And Lan Zhan was free to follow Wei Ying at last.

In which a former Lan survives, a child is rescued, the Jin are received, the Lan are received, and advice is given to Jin Guangyao.

There are reflections on the past, and action in the present.

"I want my grandson back," Madame Jin said in an angry rush even though her hands clenched fearfully, and her eyes were wide and desperate.

"It will not happen," Jin Guangyao said. He held up a hand when she opened her mouth to fight him. "I have this place because Jiang Wanyin gave it to me. Chifeng-Jun and Zewu-Jun both approved. They accepted. It was Jiang Wanyin who decided it. I will not oppose him, especially since his instant response to seeing Jin Ling in distress was to take Jin Ling into his arms to tend to him. Despite the messy diaper. Despite the fever. Despite everything."

He had never seen Madame Jin hold Jin Ling. Smile down at his crib as Jin Ling fretted, yes, but never touch him. Never hold him. Never comfort him.

When he was Meng Yao, he had seen far too many babies. Some had been loved. Most had not. He knew how babies thrived or did not based on their mother's love.

"You won't—"

"No." Jin Guangyao cut her off. "I will not. I would appreciate your advice on a bride who will not kill me as soon as she has a baby in her belly, preferably one who doesn't cringe to speak to me. I would greatly appreciate your help as Jin-Furen. I would be delighted to recommend any young or old lover you would prefer, should you desire male companionship. I certainly know more of their habits and desires than any one man should after… serving my father. However, I will not anger the Jiang Sect when you could not be bothered to so much as hold your grandson when he cried."

She flinched at the snap of fury in his voice.

In which many things happen, including the theft of Wei Wuxian's works. There are misunderstandings about relationships at Lotus Pier, Wen Ning recovers, and Xue Yang becomes a Problem. Also, Jin Guangyao is the Sect Leader required for these times.

Wen Ning jerked, standing straight, and turning towards the northwest. That was Wei Wuxian. Not his physical voice, but his spiritual one. It had been so long since he heard it…

Wind drifted across Wen Ning's cheek. There was the faint scent of flowers, though his nose no longer picked up scents properly. If it was faint to him, the smell of the lotuses and iris must be overwhelming around him and A-Yuan. He'd come out onto the pier with A-Yuan to officially check on the giant catfish. A-Yuan was very, very eager to start to learn swimming, even though the water wasn't warm enough yet.

Wen Ning cocked his head.

He had the faint sense of cursing so far off that it was all intonation, no meaning, but it wasn't something he heard with his ears.

It was something that he heard through the bonds Wei Wuxian had crafted to bind his soul back to his body. Which was… not good. At all.

"A-Ning," A-Yuan asked with a tug on Wen Ning's cold hands. "What's wrong?"

"I… thought I heard… something," Wen Ning managed to say.

In which Xue Yang attempts to bring back Wei Wuxian, Wen Ning hears one-sided conversations, and the "misbegotten idiot" (Xue Yang, in the thoughts of Wei Wuxian) attempts to "try something stupid, half-assed, and incredibly unlikely to succeed eventually". He fails.

Wei Wuxian does impossible things, Jin Guangyao gains a family, and Wen Ning and Mo Xuanyu capture a giant catfish. Sort of.

(falling over myself panting and screaming) JIN LING ITS JIN LING JIN LING IS MY FAVORITE i will say i havent watched cql so i don't know anything about him in that but i love jin ling in the books and i loved that he was angry and that he was scared and that he was confused and i loved how hard it was for him to accept affection from wwx when he knew it was wwx, i love that he's the world's saddest and loneliest little boy, i love that his life is shaped by so much grief and trauma and that the adults around him have failed him constantly ever since the day he was born. and my only beef i'll ever have with wangji is that he has beef with jin ling. he's not a monster he's a 16 year old who misses his parents. so there!

other than that i'm easy and simple obviously i love wwx and lwj..... i'm a ride or die for xichen as well i think first of all there is something so kevin day about xichen in the sense that they're both positioned at the crux of so many issues and entirely unaware of it. the way jin guangyao and nie mingjue were passing xichen back and forth and xichen had no idea of the game they were playing because he wasn't invited into it at all. ugh! i love the jades of lan really, i think their relationship as brothers is so interesting and i think about their mother all the time. madam lan :(!

this is surprising even to me because on my first read through i didnt care if jiang cheng lived or died but now i actually think about him a lot. usually i don't enjoy jealousy plots but i think jiang cheng is so interesting and detailed and flawed and human..... he gets misunderstood a lot in my opinion so he's my friend now too. i know he'll never be happy but that's ok. he has jin ling and that will be enough. and also i love wen ning but i cant think too much about him or i start to get ill and sick. but i hope wen ning jiang cheng and jin ling can go out for dinner one day

Xiantober Day 7 - Biker!Xian except here Wei Ying is a high schooler who gets a bicycle so he can woo Lan Zhan by giving him rides home.

Now an expanded oneshot!!

Wei Ying spends months saving up his lunch money, stealing tiny morsels of food off his friends' plates until Lan Zhan finally takes pity on him and brings double portions of his lunch to share.

This is all perfectly well and good, and Wei Ying is absolutely not affected by Lan Zhan's seemingly infinite kindness and his cute little blushing red ears every lunch period when he silently offers Wei Ying the red lunch box that matches his own blue one perfectly and has to be brand new since Lan Zhan has never owned anything that wasn't white, blue, or grey.

No, Wei Ying cannot let this get to him, as impossibly adorable as it is. Because he has a plan in mind and it has to be foolproof.

It's cleverly titled: Wei Ying's Ten Step Plan to Make Lan Zhan Realizes He's In Love With Me.

(Maybe he needs a shorter title)

The point is, he'd come up with this plan with careful consideration for each step.

He started off easy with step 1; get Lan Zhan to sit with him for ten minutes without getting up and running away in an angry huff.

Sure it wasn't easy persay in that Lan Zhan at first seemed to despise being even in the same vicinity as Wei Ying, but! Now, Lan Zhan can sit with him for a whole lunch period without even the smallest angry twitch in his jaw. Sometimes Lan Zhan even waits for him outside of class so they can walk together to their usual table outside.

All in all, Operation WY10SPTMLZRHILWM (still too long of a title, hm) is going swimmingly.

He's made it all the way to step 6, which coincidentally is the most expensive on his list (Except the expensive roses and suit and maybe aquarium he's going to need to rent for their first date but he's letting himself be realistic and wait to think about that one)

But step 6 is extremely important because in this step, Wei Ying is going to show Lan Zhan that Wei Ying is responsible and can provide for his impossibly perfect boyfriend.

This is especially tricky because Lan Zhan is actually the most prepared person in the entire world and never needs anything. He even carries an extra pair of socks in his backpack. And another pair in his locker in case Wei Ying needs one!

There is one way Wei Ying can provide for Lan Zhan though.

You see, Lan Zhan walks to school. It's not a terrible distance, but it's at least twenty minutes each way.

And Wei Ying, well he may not have a car like some of their more well-off classmates, but he at least knows how to ride a bicycle.

Madam Yu had refused to get him one when he'd asked and Jiang Cheng refused to share "for your gross flirting ugh", so Wei Ying just starved himself for a bit and he now has enough for a second-hand bike of his own!

(Plus there's the added benefit of eating food prepared by

Lan Zhan, which pretty much sends Wei Ying's heart rocketing to space every time. We'll call that Step 5.5.)

He sneaks out of class early one day to buy the bike from the shop, carefully evading Uncle Four's questions about why he isn't at school. This is more important!

Lan Zhan has orchestra today, and so he has some extra time to get used to his bike but not enough if he wants to look super cool. Plus Lan Zhan will be carrying his violin with him which means Wei Ying will be extra helpful by helping transport both of them home safely.

He's had his eye on this bike for a long while now. It's one that was sold to the shop and in need of repairs and that Uncle Four had been fixing slowly with Wei Ying hovering with a watchful eye.

It's body is painted bright red with golden accents that maybe remind Wei Ying of someones eyes but okay can anyone blame him?

He'd even managed to find a little basket to attach to the front with Uncle Four, who throws in a loud bell for free (which is going to be perfect for annoying Jiang Cheng with heh).

With his sick new ride secured, Wei Ying heads out.

He is, admittedly, a little bit rusty with his biking skills. It's been a few years after all, but hey with a little practice he'll be fine! He only almost hit two old ladies, and he said sorry and they didn't seem too mad, so!

He does get a bit caught up in trying to get used to the thing and remember skills he'd learned years ago (whoever said you never really forget how to ride a bike was WRONG), which means he's late for the end of extra curriculars.

He gets to the school gates as his classmates spill out, some of them greeting him and trying to ask him about his bike, but he brushes them away, distracted.

He can't spot Lan Zhan's familiar silky braid at all and his heart starts to sinks, until he hears the daintiest little throat clearing cough ever coming from behind him.

It is, of course, Lan Zhan, and Wei Ying is struck as he always is by the way Lan Zhan glows in the setting sun, his eyes reflecting the light and practically mesmerizing enough Wei Ying forgets how to speak.

"Wei Ying," Lan Zhan's perfect voice calls out, and gosh Wei Ying could listen to him say his name forever. "You were not at practice."

Oh yeah, Wei Ying had to ditch his orchestra practice too. It's okay, all in the name of love!

"Aha, yeah. sorry! I had to go grab something, but check this out! Wat do you think?"

Lan Zhan's gaze travels up and down the bike, and Wei Ying is about to preen when instead of Lan Zhan giving him a look of pure adoration his expression remains completely neutral.

Instead, he hands Wei Ying his case with his flute, and ah, apparently he forgot that too.

So much for responsible...

Wei Ying, feeling a bit dejected, doesn't say anything even as Lan Zhan waits for a while, before he starts to turn and walk off. That's when Wei Ying kicks himself and the bike stand into high gear and chases after him.

"Lan Zhan! Wait! Let me give you a ride. As, um, thanks."

Lan Zhan blinks at him and Wei Ying's bike (He should give it name, hm. He doesn't know. Whatever...actually...), as if trying to assess if that's actually a good idea (Which, hey! Don't say that about Whatever!)

He quirks a devastating eyebrow as if to say "Are you sure?", to which Wei Ying responds by taking both their instrument cases and tucking them into the basket where they just barely fit. Lan Zhan looks concerned, but Wei Ying doesn't let him say anything, instead tugging on his arm so he can come over to the back and sit behind Wei Ying.

Wei Ying initially imagined Lan Zhan perched on the handlebars in front of him, but Lan Zhan had another growth spurt over the summer making him taller (which, swoon!) so Wei Ying settled for having Uncle Four install in extra large seat so they could share.

This also comes with the benefit of having Lan Zhan wrap his arms around his waist, which makes Wei Ying feel a bit queasy with excitement but is very appealing at all.

Except when Lan Zhan takes a tentative seat, he doesn't grab Wei Ying's waist at all. Instead, he holds onto the bottom of the seat, as if that makes for a better holder and Wei Ying can't stop himself from pouting and saying "Hmph..."

"Wei Ying?"

He shakes it off and says, "Nothing!" before pushing on the pedals to get them in motion.

It is... more challenging than he thought it'd be. When he was planning this out, he'd pictured it like those dramas where the handsome male lead took the quirky female leading a leisurely bike ride through next to a beach.

In reality, he's huffing and puffing trying to cart the weight of two grown boys. Up a hill.

Yeah it's way harder than he'd thought.

"Wei Ying, are you sure you're okay?"

Wei Ying really hopes his laugh doesn't come out as crazed as he thinks it does. "Yeah, totally! Just, uh, gimmie, a mo, mnent."

It's gonna be at least ten minutes uphill like this, and Wei Ying is starting to feel nervous, especially when they go over a bump that jostles their instruments and Lan Zhan has to reach over and take hold of their straps.

As he does, his hand brushes against Wei Ying's sweaty grip and making him startle, losing control of the bike so it careens off the road.

Luckily, with Lan Zhan's incredible athletic reflexes, he's able to grab Wei Ying, along with their instruments, and get them off the bike safely...before it crashes into a tree.

Wei Ying stands there stunned, holding the back of his hands behind his head as he stares at the culmination of months of careful saving, dented in the front with a wheel that may be in need of replacement.

When Wei Ying doesn't say anything or move, Lan Zhan approaches the tree in his place. He lifts the bike away, revealing that yup, that's a dent.

Naturally the basket falls off too, of course.

Wei Ying crouches down on the ground, dropping his head into his hands and releasing a groan that makes some of the birds nearby fly away.

He wants to laugh. He wants to cry. He kind of wishes he'd been the one to crash into a tree instead.

He settles, apparently for a string of incredulous hysterical giggles. They must be concerning enough that Lan Zhan crouches down in front of him.

Wei Ying makes the mistake of looking up to see Lan Zhan's adorable face scrunched up with concern and his braid sliding off his shoulders and just looking so cute, and he buries his head again and lets out a groan that's even louder than the first.

"Wei Ying... are you alright?"

"Me? Alright? Ha!" Yup, he definitely sounds crazed now. "I just spent months of money i've been saving on a brand new bike that I broke not even a full day in and with nothing left to fix it! And! I crash it with you on the bike which means I almost hurt you, and that would have been awful! And you didn't even put your hands around my waist like in the dramas!"

"Why would I hold your waist like in the dramas?"

"Because that's what all the love interests do when their boyfriend is giving them a bike ride!" he wails, not entirely paying attention to his words.

Lan Zhan is, however. "...Boyfriend?"

Wei Ying stiffens, plays the last few seconds again in his head, and buries his head in his arms and mumbles, "Shit....you weren't supposed to hear that."

Lan Zhan doesn't say anything, which is very good because Wei Ying has decided he's going to stay right here and never get up again and maybe if he tries hard enough turn into a stone.

But Lan Zhan won't leave him to his misery, apparently. Ugh, why did he have to fall for such a decent guy?

"Wei Ying. Whose boyfriend?"

Deciding it's too late to change anything and that he might as well get this over with so he can dig his own grave, Wei Ying comes clean.

"No boyfriend. At least it wasn't supposed to be, yet." He's finding the rocks on the ground very interesting right now. Shiny. "It was...part of my ten step plan."

"...Ten step plan for what?"

Wei Ying mumbles eloquently into the sleeve of his sweater, "To get you to like me..."

There, that's it. He's finished. It's a good thing he didn't spend any time worrying about that name anyways.

"Wei Ying." Lan Zhan...doesn't sound mad or disgusted.

Wei Ying feels something grab onto his arm and pull it away from his face, realizing at the last minute that it's Lan Zhan who's doing the touching and pulling.

He finally gets a look at his expression and it's, wow, it's intense. The most serious he's ever seen Lan Zhan look. It feels like his gaze will melt through him.

And his ears are a screaming bright red.

Lan Zhan says, as if his words are the most important thing he'll every say, "Boyfriends."

Wei Ying blinks at him. "...Huh?"

Lan Zhan nods. "Mn. Boyfriends, yes, us. We should be boyfriends."

The hysterical laughter comes back, but it's tinged this time by a fluttery feeling of hope that makes Wei Ying feel like he might float away. "Lan Zhan? Are you sure? Do you know what that means?"

Lan Zhan moves his grip on Wei Ying's arm so that he can gold his hand and takes ahold of Wei Ying's other hand as well. "Yes. It means that I want to be Wei Ying's boyfriend and he wants to be mine."

Wei Ying's lets out a squeal that's practically a screech and it's only thanks to Lan Zhan's secure grip that he hasn't fallen onto the ground yet.

"So, does that mean you like? Like, like me, like me??"

Lan Zhan's eyes are sparkling. "Mn, I like Wei Ying. Like him, like him."

And then, just to make absolute sure, he bridges the little gap between them and kisses Wei Ying's smile, sweeter than anything could ever be.

After they've finished and decided they're both very good at kissing, if they say so in their limited experience, Lan Zhan helps Wei Ying walk his bike back to the shop, holding both their bags in his grip.

(His boyfriend is so strong, and wow! Boyfriend! Ah! So much swoon!!)

"So I didn't need my ten step plan after all! But I worked so hard on coming up with it!" He shows Lan Zhan the plan he'd written on his phone.

Lan Zhan read through it carefully before saying, "Wei Ying, I've loved you since Step 0." Then he leans forwards and kisses the stunned look off Wei Ying's face, the corners of his own mouth lifting in a dazzling small smile in return.

It turns out they won't need the expensive aquarium date after all. Hm, though, if Wei Ying starts saving up now maybe he'll have enough for their one year anniversary...

(and then WY saves up enough to fix his bike by helping U4 out since he already knows anyways and LZ continues to make sure his bf is fed and not skipping any meals the end)

au where madam lan just doesn’t die. Lan Xichen frees her on his way out of the Cloud Recesses. Meng Yao finds and rescues both of them. But! When it comes time for Lan Xichen to return, there’s a problem because his mother will have to go back into captivity. Fortunately, there’s this Very Nice Young Man named Meng Yao who can look out for her and assist her and make sure she both survives the war and doesn’t get caught! This could be difficult during his spy duties, but! Does anyone actually know his mother is dead? Do they care? If Meng “Hello I am very competent and would like to dedicate my life to the destruction of Nie Mingjue because he made me his favorite and then banished me” Yao asks if he can pretty please bring his poor sick mother to Nightless City? Sure why not. Nobody remembers what either woman looks like. If you want immediate angst, she winds up in the camp with Wen Ning in all the chaos, and then there’s a Delicate Situation with getting her out of the burial mounds without revealing that she’s anyone’s mom. If you want later angst, assume her exit plan from Nightless City went fine but then once things start unravelling. Jin Guangyao has what technically could be a very valuable piece of leverage against the Lan brothers, but can he bring himself to use it, and how insulted is he when Lan Xichen thinks he will?

Madam Jiang died at the battle in Nightless city. That is how the original story goes. She died, sacrificing her own life for her brother.

That is how it goes in many stories. Madam Jiang dies. She dies. Dies. Dies.

However, things don't always go the way they are meant to be, clearly.

Here, the story… plays out differently.

Wei Wuxian saw the corpse approaching shijie. The sight alone made fear strike his entire body. At first he wanted to try making it stop with Chenqing. But the corpse was so close. It was too close for his comfort. His body moved before he even realized it.

"SHIJIE BEHIND YOU!"

Before he knew it, he was by her side, pulling her back so the corpse didn't hurt her. He was too in the moment to hear Jiang Cheng yell at him. He didn't hear Lan Wangji calling out for him.

At that moment, he didn't notice many things. However, one cannot ignore a corpse slashing at your torso. He felt his flesh being torn apart, blood surging instantly.

He didn't know if his knees buckled, but he knew his shijie held him. At first he couldn't grasp what, but then he could nearly again. It was like something snapped in his ears when he heard his surroundings.

"A-xian! A-xian!"

His shijie was crying. Jiang Cheng was frozen standing next to her. The fighting still went on around them. It was loud. So, so loud. And the pain didn't help the intensity of the moment.

"You- you- make the corpses stop! Wei Wuxian!"

Even though Jiang Cheng yelled at him, the concern was now clear. Could he stop them by this point though? The whole situation was weird. So weird. But he can try. His chest hurts, and he can feel the blood polling out of his injury, but he can try. For them he'll try everything.

He brought his dizi up to his lips. His hands weren't shaking, he told himself. And he played. It took a lot of effort to make them stop, but this time the corpses obeyed. With a content exhale he allowed Chenqing to fall from his hands.

"My good a-Xian, hold still, you're gonna be alright."

"You said you could control it! You- you why were you so reckless?!"

"Wei Ying.."

One voice sounded the most odd out of them all. Wei Wuxian's eyes shifted towards the source.

Lan Zhan.

Didn't he hate him? Why did he sound so upset? Ah, the wound hurt. But his siblings are here. He can't worry them. After all, he already put them through so much- so, he gathered himself and smiled.

"Ayah.. Acting like this could actually kill me."

His shijie, she was shaking. Jiang Cheng was on the verge of tears. And Lan Zhan.. He didn't dare look at him again. Because when he did, his chest hurt more than it already did with the injury.

Resentful energy cannot heal. It can make things still, after all, it patched up his broken up body after his fall quite well. However, it never healed any of his injuries.

It was probably even numbing the pain right now, but how could he tell?

Jiang Yanli shook her head, trying to convince herself that her brother didn't get hurt protecting her. But reality couldn't be ignored if it was right in front of you.

Then Jiang Cheng was pushed away from him. Yells sounded out.

And before shijie could do anything she too was pushed.

A sword then stabbed itself in his throat before he could react.

Blood flowed from Wei Wuxian's neck. Cheers erupted almost instantly when the cultivators realized he was the one to die.

Expect three.

One.

Leader of the Jiang sect was frozen. Staring at the body of his now dead brother.

Wei Wuxian died.

It isn't that he liked him much after he killed jie's brother, however his death didn't bring him any joy.

If anything it brought the opposite.

The tears he wanted to hold back got out. And he cried. Sincerely cried, for the brother he lost.

"Wei Wuxian.."

Two.

Madam Jiang was on her knees, holding her body. A-Xian died. Her dear brother died. Yet another member of her family, torn away from her because of chance. Because of chance that creamy hated her.

Why else would it keep on taking?

She wanted to tell him that she knew it was an accident, that she knew he wouldn't kill her husband-

How could she do that now? How could she tell her a-Xian that she will help him through this, get to the bottom of what happened?

Her brother was dead.

And she didn't know if her tears would ever stop falling at this point.

"A-Xian! ..A-Xian..!"

And three.

Second master Lan at first just stared. He was so close, his sword was in his hands. If he was faster- if he was faster Wei Ying could have lived. But he was too slow. And a cultivator claimed his life right in front of him.He wanted to deny this- he didn't want to accept that Wei Ying, Wei Ying, died. Lan Wangji wanted to pretend that he was fine. That the man.. The man who brought light into his life… who was the light.

Died in front of him. And he was too slow to stop it.

He didn't even know it, but he caught Wei Ying's body before it fell to the ground.

He didn't even know about it, but tears streamed from his eyes.

He didn't even know it, but he yelled in anguish.

Ignoring the blood that stained his robes. He ignored it all. The people around him, the Jiang nearby.

Because the light of his life was taken away.

"WEI YING!"

...He’s just come back from wandering the world for close to a year, sleeping in unfamiliar beds, and now Jiang Cheng wants him to give up the comfort of Lan Zhan’s arms again for Heavens know how long; all that just to satisfy his own small-minded sense of propriety, that little part of him that never let go of Madam Yu’s furious scoldings and feeble attempts to save face...He will not return to some narrow cot at a roadside inn just to keep people’s tongues from wagging.

Jiang Cheng crosses his arms. “What, is Lotus Pier suddenly not good enough for you?”

It feels like having his breath punched out of him. Wei Wuxian inhales deeply, desperately, and holds it in for a moment, unable to say anything...takes a moment to think, nods. “Maybe…maybe that’s not the worst idea. Maybe I should stay. At least for a while.”

I can't even tell if this is supposed to be a heartwarming sibling interaction because, the narrative just acts like jc is bad at communicating and prickly, instead of...I mean this is just absolutely blatant emotional manipulation, isn't it? wwx clearly doesn't want to stay at LP and in fact does leave after only a week, but the way this rolls out just feels very weird in how it's presented. jc pressures wwx into this by implying he's being...promiscuous, I guess? and then immediately guilt-trips him into staying by using the reputation of the sect, at LP he is alone and kind of miserable for a week because jc ignores him half the time

I don't think it's ooc because jc guilt-trips and emotionally blackmails and criticizes wwx for stupid things literally all the time, but this dynamic does not make me want them to reconcile. I don't think wwx should have to sift through aggression and disrespect to find genuine affection, and I don't like that jc can continue to act like this and demand wwx be in his life and wwx just complies with no boundaries or requests of jc in return. the reconciliation is clearly a process in this fic and things aren't perfect by the end, but I'd like to see some effort at least. anyway I'm so sick of this dynamic being presented as normal or even necessary to repair the relationship, when it's really anything but. in fact I'd say that if wwx doesn't set boundaries, there's no reason to jc to change because being an immature and angry dick is working for what he wants to see happen
