How the sleep study went?
And so far... (Health Update)
I took my first ever sleep study yesterday night for Nightmare Disorder. It went pretty well, even if the experience was a little awkward.
Summary:
The tech was incredibly nice, and polite. She did a wonderful job in explaining the process to me, and the overwhelming amount of equipment that was going to be utilized. She hooked the many wires and bands up to me, and then she left the room so we could do exercises.
Exercises included her speaking through a speaker in the room, and potentially looking through the cameras. I did a bunch of movement and sound exercises to make sure all the equipment was working. There is a mic in a sleep study where the tech can hear you, so in case you want something or the tech needs something from you the both of you can communicate.
I did have a pretty hard time actually falling asleep for the study because the equipment was uncomfortable, and I was very anxious about the results. I did get some successful periods of sleep though.
The tech did have to come into the room and wake me up a few times. Due to my restless sleeping I had several times pulled off the equipment in my sleep, stickers, and all. I also kept rolling onto my stomach and obstructing a piece of nose equipment.
Aftermath:
There was a bit of aftermath, in the form of the medical gel used to attach the stickers. For those of us with lots of hair the tech has to put the stickers and gel in your hair as close to your scalp as possible. The gel is quite difficult to get washed out, as it more so melt from hot water. Other than that I found the sleep study a learning experience, and can’t wait to hear my results from a future appointment.
I did learn that I am more restless than I thought.
What to expect if you have one?
It will be a little awkward, but have no fear it’s the tech’s job and they’ve seen a bit of everything
You will likely be woken up or checked on a few times throughout the night. If you are used to having sleep problems, which would be what you’re going for, this will have no effect on your health and attitude.
Hair can’t be wet with any conditioners in before the appointment, and your closing has to be a certain way and a comfortable two-piece.
They’ll have accommodations for different sleeping styles. More blankets, TV sleeper, using the bathroom throughout the night, all of that is there for people.
There’s also a shower in case you want to do that after finishing the study.
If you are young you will likely be the youngest patient there, and less common. Most of the people going are there for sleep apnea, which primarily effects older people and men. So techs and nurses will be a bit more curious about you.

Without going into detail I had a medical emergency earlier this week that saw me wind up in hospital for a brief stint. I'm OK, I've got another lifelong condition to manage but it's mainly pain-related and that means it's management through outpatient neurology for me.
TL;DR it sucks, but it won't kill me so I don't want to dwell on it.
I just want to shout out to my beautiful cat who slept beside me for twelve hours straight after I got home and was nice to the paramedics when they were doing their job. She makes even the worst situations bearable. Love her, here's an artist's impression I commissioned:

While I still have a lot of plans for working on my Wedding Peach site, this new complication may slow me down a bit. I'll keep on keeping on though, you know me. Thanks for your patience.

You'd think the worst part of being immunocompromised would be catching All The Things, but honestly, the actual worst part is not being able to visit very sick loved ones because they're afraid of you catching the sickness :(

Believix fairy Danny
Expanding on this >:>
"So are you really a magic fairy? Like fairy tails , magic wands and fairy glitter thingy?"
Sam leveled red Robin a look™ her signature gesture for dealing with tiresome people. Her tone was full of dry sarcasm.
"What? The sparkly huge wings and "fairy glitter" weren't obviously enough for you? Didn't make it click?"
Sam really was laying it down thick with the attitude. Danny didn't blame her at all, Tucker looked close to sleeping right there standing up eyes blinking slugessly.
Hell they were all three thinking the exact same thing. He might have worded it differently but he was the one with the official qualification decidedly not Sam. Oh look at that Tucker was snoring away still standing up, lucky bastard.
Even now when sleep was so close and he was dangerously close to following Tucker's example. God I wish that was me.
" What did you say Danny?" Fuck had he said that last part out loud? His bad and now Sam's knowing look just made him more tired.
Why couldn't those heroes get out of trouble themselves? Stupid Lex Luther and his stupid cloning kink!
They just wanted to sleep in peace already and not have to answer stupid questions that Danny answered like seven times this hour alone!
"Soo do you really have a wand or?"
"Yes, no, more of a staff actually."

As if the Specialists aren't sleep deprived.
The Specialists are known to be one of the protectors of Magix. To get stronger, they train under the supervision of the Red Fountain authorities. Everyday, they wake up four in the morning to practice and train themselves.
The boys probably wake up four in the morning just to be ready for another day of training, getting prepared under ten minutes in an early morning to spar and drive their wind riders. Heck, they might still be half-asleep or unfocused after they just woke up, still they continue to practice for the realm's sake.
And since we know they do not use any sort of magic, the boys must think quick and strike their opponent quickly. They are still under training of Red Fountain, so some Specialists are struggling to get on track to follow through.
Do not forget they have their own exams and tests, too! Whilst training their physical combat skills and practicing to use the winder rider, the boys still need to keep up for the papers. Who wouldn't be exhausted from all that?
Not only do their train and answer exams, but go in actual missions where their lives are at risk. Some of the things they do are keeping monsters captive, fighting against anomalies, and encountering risky scenarios that may lead to instant death. Even training a dragon is highly hazardous—do one wrong move on the creature and you are suddenly in the afterlife.
Then you remember their ages. They are either sixteen or seventeen years old! A year or two before they become adults. For boys in their late teens, this type of training can still be considered as tough. During the nights, they can possibly encounter awful nightmares or insomnia. It is considered a miracle for the Specialists to have a peaceful slumber, so it becomes unsurprising that they will be tired in the mornings. A cup of hot coffee or tea will keep themselves together.
Despite the possible cons of training in Red Fountain, the authorities still ensure the students are in good shape and they are both physically and mentally well. They all know that it is useless to fight when you are physically fit, yet your mind is slowly falling apart. Saladin keeps reminding himself to be firm yet considerate of his students, especially for his pacifist grandson Helia.
Just a headcanon, but Red Fountain might have a private room where the students who are experiencing panic attacks, immense anxiety, meltdowns, burnouts, and etc. will be comforted. It is like a room for therapy purposes and nobody in that room is judged for how they feel and/or react about a certain event.
Red Fountain must be very good at handling its students; in training, academics, and mental stability. It is rather difficult to control them all at once, but if it's for Magix, they will do everything. Red Fountain keeps a constant reminder that the students are not emotionless robots, but young boys with various feelings and reactions. They also keep in mind that some have neurological and/or mental disorders.
With this, Red Fountain and the Specialists need the respect they deserve from the people. All those sacrifices and trials were worth the battle.
Wow this is possibly my longest post yet. Anyway, salute to all the Specialists! 🫡

Pac's fawn response will be the death of me. Cellbit holds a bitchy grudge for 8 years about something that was absolutely his fault and this mf just full on agrees. "I shouldn't have left him on that island" and do what instead, pray tell? Get killed by Mike? Kill him?
Maybe, stay with Cell, somehow.
Get consumed to let yourself feel loveable and loved or something. Give up your life for the facsimile of intimacy you seem to find oh-so familiar, if mind-numbingly terrifying. Cry with fear and choke on panic and pain as the guy who whispered sweet words in your ear eats from you yet again, ultimately uncaring and only taking what he likes best until you are a helpless, hopeless heap of unwanted parts on the ground, getting colder with bloodloss.
Sometimes it feels like Pac really doesn't value himself much, and him actively (though briefly, thank you jvnq) begrudging his survival instinct was... sure something

i am feeling ugh.
i keep having nightmares about my mom. i have a lot of sleep issues but it’s just so jarring to have these nightmares where my mom is abusing me like she did when i was growing up/an actual adult before meeting my husband.
we are on good terms now but these dreams. i wake up hot and sweaty and upset. it brings me back to being a kid and being terrified of my mom. terrified to make mistakes, to say the wrong thing. we have a decent relationship now. but the past still haunts me and i want it to stop. i am so far removed from having to escape my mom. i have already escaped!
just feeling meh and not very good. think my mental health be acting up

Having ADHD but only having it just enough to get the like 2 symptoms left out of every conversation about ADHD fills me with an apathy that has no practical solution. Rolling up to the ADHD conversation like "Some days I can't focus and everything pisses me off and the best I can do is lay on the floor with music on and scowl at the ceiling until it stops because if I don't then I'll be mean to other people because I have no patience when I get like that" just makes everyone side-eye you because they immediately jump to the conclusion that you want to commit unspeakable acts of violence.
But a lot of people don't know that this is something people with ADHD can experience. The only time I ever see it mentioned is when I go out of my way to find research on it...
