Your secret crush on Ashton Irwin is getting wildly out of control. 

There’s no reason on earth that you would be sitting in the quidditch stands on such a cold and frosty Saturday morning if it wasn’t for that lovable, quidditch playing dork. 

Most of your friends don’t approve of your feelings for the Gryffindor chaser. The tensions between his house and yours seem destined to linger on for countless generations, despite the effort that some Slytherin families, such as your own, have been putting into restoring the fractured relationships between certain groups of wizards since the war against Voldemort had ended decades ago.

So far you’re very much regretting your decision to finally watch a quidditch match, having refused to since your first year. The game is proving to be every bit as boring as you remember it to be. To make it even worse, the fine mist and cloudy weather conditions had prevented you from getting a single decent glimpse of the boy you were actually there to see. 

Indeed, it’s hard to tell who any of the players are in such poor light. They’re all just red and green blurs flying through the fog, occasionally accompanied by a much smaller fleeting brown or gold haze.

When it becomes obvious that the game is going to take a while, you contemplate abandoning your mission of sitting through the whole match. Afterall, Hogwarts castle looks so cozy in the distance, with warm lights flickering in many of its windows. It proves all-too-tempting and you’re about to succumb to its call when a commotion catches your eye in the centre of the quidditch pitch. 

It appears that one of the Gryffindor chasers is well on their way to scoring a goal. Understandably, the Slytherin beaters are doing their best the throw the Gryffindor chaser off course. When one of the beaters finally gets a hit on bludger, it’s much too clumsy and the bat slip out of their hand. Before you (or anyone else for that matter) can get your wand out, the rogue bat collides with the chaser’s upper arm. Even at the considerable distance you find yourself from the casualty, you hear the sickening crack of bones and the splintering of the thick wood.

Even though you can’t properly see the person that was hit, you have a sick feeling in your stomach that it was Ashton. As the chaser tumbles towards the ground the quidditch referee thinks fast and casts the levitation charm to lower the player safely to the ground. 

Knowing that you could easily just head off back to the castle like you’d originally planned, the uneasy feeling inside of you begins to protest. It’s clear that you won’t be able to rest if you don’t at least check that the Gryffindor chaser is okay.

Tearing down the stairs of your stand, you become more sure by the second that it’s Ashton lying on the damp grass, writhing in pain. Your worst fears are confirmed when you notice a worried looking Calum Hood land next to his injured teammate, uttering his friend’s name tearfully. 

The rest of the players from both teams land one by one, forming a small knot of people around the sandy haired chaser that you’re quite sure you’re in love with. “I can help!” You yell, sprinting across the pitch towards the little crowd. A few of the Gryffindor quidditch players offer you a sceptical or disapproving glare. Usually you’d launch into a speech about how most Slytherins aren’t to be feared or distrusted anymore. You don’t have time for that right now, though. Ashton needs you. “My dad’s a healer.” You inform them, panting as you jog to a stop in front of the gathered players. “I know some basic spells that can help whilst we get him to the hospital wing.”

Some of the Gryffindors mutter cynically to each other, staring at you suspiciously as you drop to the ground next to your injured crush. The Slytherin team don’t seem much happier about your insistence to help a member of the opposition, but you ignore them all. Ashton’s the only one that’s important right now.

Ashton’s beautiful face is contorted in agony, tears and blood from a graze near his eye, staining his rosy cheeks. He’s lying on his uninjured side, gripping his clearly broken arm with his opposite hand. “Hey, Ashton.” You whisper gently as you drop down to his your knees beside him. “Can you just let go of your arm for me?” You try to keep your voice calm and steady. One of the things your father has always taught you, is that your tone of voice is incredibly important when dealing with a patient. You need to help them feel like they’re in good hands.

Opening his pretty hazel eyes to look up at you, Ashton whimpers and your heart shatters in your chest. Seeing him in this much pain almost brings tears to your own eyes but you force yourself to take a deep breath and do what your dad had taught you to do in this situation. “I just need to have a little look at your arm so that I can limit your pain whilst we get you to the hospital wing, yeah?”

Despite his obvious agony, Ashton’s expression softens a tiny bit. The creases around his eyes ease a little as he slowly removes his good hand. “Hurts…” He sobs, looking up at you with a pleading glare. 

You’re faintly aware of a couple of teachers joining the students around you. All of your professors know about the healing skills you’ve inherited from your father, they’ve witnessed you heal many minor injuries over your six years at Hogwarts, from billywig stings to black eyes. You’d even healed the wing of one of the school owls after she’d flown too close to the whomping willow last term. It’s clear that the professors are only there to supervise you. The Hogwarts teachers rarely interfere with their students’ efforts to exercise their magical skills and abilities.

“Are you sure you can help him?” Calum asks nervously, his bottom lip caught between his teeth as he glances between you and Ashton. “Shouldn’t we just let a teacher do it?”

“We’re here should we be needed, Mr Hood.” The nearest professor smiles, placing a hand on Calum’s shoulder to reassure him.

Suddenly feeling very observed and slightly nervous, you pull out your wand. The very appearance of it seems to help put Calum’s mind a bit more at ease. It’s common knowledge amongst witches and wizards that Willow wands are very common amongst healers and the fact that one such implement chose you when you were just eleven years old, often implies that you’re competent in that particular field of magic.

Despite your initial confidence that you can help, you start to feel a bit nervous. The malicious whispering from Ashton’s Gryffindor teammates don’t help as sentences such as; “I’d never trust a Slytherin to heal me” and “I’ve never seen a decent Slytherin healer in my life…” reach your ears. 

Your hand shakes a little as you point your wand, trying to clear your mind of everything other than the intent to help Ashton. “Okay, Ashton.” You smile cautiously. “Can you just hold really still for me?” 

The Gryffindor chaser meets your gaze much steadier than you might expect for someone in so much pain. “I saw you help that injured bowtruckle in Care of Magical Creatures last year.” He says, his voice shaking slightly as tears continue to leak from the corners of his eyes. “I trust you.”

Your crush’s unwavering faith in you helps to dispel the nerves inside of you and your hand steadies. “I’m going to bandage a splint around your arm to keep it still and straight whilst we get you to the hospital wing, okay?”

Ashton nods, forcing a smile that turns into more of a grimace as another wave of pain takes over him.

“It may hurt a little bit because the bandages have to be quite tight, okay?” You explain confidently. 

The Gryffindor chaser gives a trembling nod, reaching for Calum’s hand as he closes his eyes in preparation for the pain.

Seeing Ashton in such discomfort, spurs you on to cast the bandaging spell quickly and efficiently. You try not to let his hurt groans distract you as you ensure the conjured bandages can withstand the inevitable stress of Ashton walking or being carried to the hospital wing. “How’s that feel?” You ask kindly when the spell is complete.

“Secure.” Ashton replies, tentatively trying to manoeuvre himself into a sitting position.

You instinctively reach out to help your crush, supporting his back as Calum continues to hold his hand firmly. “Steady, now, there’s no rush.” You assure him with a smile. 

There’s an undeniable hint of fondness mixed in with gratitude in Ashton’s expression as he regards you with the tiniest watery smile on his lips.

“C’mon.” Calum says softly, still looking worried. “Let’s get you to the hospital wing.” He continues, carefully helping Ashton to his feet. 

Once he’s fully stood up, one of the professors offers him a potion to help with his pain. Ashton takes it and his face instantly relaxes. 

Considering your work to be done and dusted, you slide your wand back into the pocket of your robes.

Calum places a hand on Ashton’s back, urging him gently away from the little knot of students and teachers. “Do you think you can walk or should we arrange for a stretcher?” he asks his friend quietly as a few of the players from both teams head off towards the changing rooms.

“I can walk.” Ashton confirms, although his hazel eyes are fixed on you rather than his teammate. “But you should go and get showered, Cal.” He suggests, “It’s freezing out here.”

“Are you mad?” Calum scoffs, “I’m not going to let you walk all the way to the infirmary on your own in this state!”

Ashton lets out a tiny laugh. “I wasn’t going to go on my own, mate.” He replied, “I was hoping my guardian angel might come with me…” His hazel eyes glisten at you in the pale light, which would have made it very difficult for you to refuse even if you’d wanted to.

“I’m not sure I’ve earned that title just yet…” You mumble, your cheeks growing warm as Ashton offers you his good hand.

“You definitely have.” Ashton insists “and I promise that I’ll feel a hell of a lot safer with you than Hood.” He sighs, jabbing a thumb in his friend’s direction

Calum scoffs indignantly. “Carry on saying shit like that, Irwin and you’ll be on the lookout for a new best friend…”

Ashton chuckles, wiping the last of tears from his flushed cheeks. “No one else would have you.” He shrugs but the fondness in his eyes is all-too-clear before he turns his attention back to you. “So what do you say, angel? Will you take me to the hospital wing and hold my hand while they fix me up?”

You’re faintly aware of the other quidditch players still lingering around you, muttering that they’d rather it not be you that takes the chaser to get healed. Their words mean nothing to you when Ashton’s staring at you so expectantly, though. You finally take the hand he’s offering to you and allow him to lead the way slowly off the quidditch pitch. 

“I’ll come up to you once I’m changed!” Calum calls, obviously intent on making sure his friend knows that he still cares.

“Will you bring me some lunch?” Ashton asks, glancing over his shoulder. “I’ll probably miss it otherwise…”

Calum nods before heading off towards the changing rooms.

A niggling doubt refuses to leave you as Ashton leads you off towards the Castle, something inside you is still unsure why Ashton wants you instead of his best friend to accompany him. The graze near his eye looks sore and you want to offer to heal it for him but before you can, he interrupts your thoughts. “It’s weird how things work out, isn’t it?” He ponders out loud.

You shoot him a questioning glance, and receive an awkward smile in response. “I’ve been trying to work out a way to spend more time with you for ages.” Ashton confesses. “Who’d have thought it’d take a broken arm to finally make it happen?”

Ashton is a muggle-born

He’s also a Slytherin which you’d think wouldn’t mix well

But he chose to be in Slytherin. Why you ask?

Well, he was on the train and some boy was giving him the rundown and he said Slytherins are horrible but Ashton is really nice so he certainly wouldn’t be in Slytherin

Ashton is hard to put into a box and he likes that about himself so he was determined to show this random boy he didn’t know anything

So it’s Ashton’s turn to be sorted and the sorting hat thinks that he would do great in any house so Ashton basically got to decide so he picked Slytherin

He was so smug when he saw the shocked look on the boy’s face

Most people in his house hated him because he isn’t pureblooded and people in other houses are scared of him because he’s in Slytherin

But Ashton is really sweet and he’s crazy smart

But not just book smart he’s wise and always has something profound to say

In the first week of his first year he became friends with Calum Hood, another Slytherin

Ashton had no idea why this dude wanted to be his friend but he went with it

Once people knew Calum liked Ashton then more people wanted to be his friend

Ashton has some friends but he’d rather keep the group small

So Ashton is super smart, we’ve discussed that, but Ashton and Michael are often the masterminds behind the Core Four pranks and disasters

No one thinks it’s Ashton because he’s very smart and he always makes sure his homework is done on time and his grades are perfect

But because Ashton is so smart he’s the reason the pranks work

It’s impressive

Ashton is a beater on the Quidditch team

He’s an amazing flyer and he’s really strong so hitting things is easy

Him and Luke get really into it during their games against each other

Ashton accidentally knocked Luke off his broom once and boy just about had a heart attack

Ashton was the first one on the ground making sure Luke wasn’t hurt too bad and he apologized a ton but Luke just promised to pay it back to him

Ok hello Laura baby! Can we imagine what it would be like if—let's say cashton were in charge of babysitting their respective kids together? Especially since, you know, Ash has a whole tribe of children—his youngest being the same age as Calum's second. What mayhem or bonding would ensue? 🥺♥️

It would be pure mayhem. The two youngest would pair off together obviously and could be trusted to be left alone. It would Ashton’s eldest and twins along with Calum’s eldest that really needed to be watched, because they had the innocence but the sneakiness. And at one point Calum would be fully prepared to call Ashton’s wife and beg for help because “ash the kids have started a flour war and they won’t stop why are they being like this??” and that is when our dynamic duo of dads realised that the older kids had managed to find the family box of sweets and chocolate and devoured the lot between the four of them. The youngest would be rightfully smug that they didn’t participate but what no one realises is that calum’s youngest who is normally the loudest (next to ashtons eldest of course) had managed to quietly sneak into the pantry and make sure one of the older kids found the tub.

calum’s youngest is the sneakiest and no one apart from ashton’s youngest aka best friend in the entire world, knows this.

-but at the same time this guy is loyal as fuck to his friends and he can be pretty sarcastic and intimidating when he needs to be, plus he’s a mischievous little fuck so there’s that too

-and he definitely has this whole bad boy vibe

-then there’s the whole thing about him being an absolute savage on the Quidditch Pitch

-like, he has a reputation for being such a brutal, conniving, ambitious, Quidditch mastermind and anyone who has to play against him knows that he will 100% hit a ball your direction and not worry about hurting you if it means getting his team a victory

-one day you’re in a hallway studying when Ashton runs past you, then stops, turns around and sits down on the floor next to you, “i need you to pretend we’re studying.” he states

-you’re about to ask what he means when Filch comes hobbling down the hall, his eyes fixed on Ashton, “what do you think you’re doing?” Filch asks

-”studying with Y/N.” Ashton says

-Filch looks to you and you take a breath before saying “it’s true. we’ve been studying.”

-Filch glares, “mark my works Irwin, i will catch you next time.”

-as soon as Filch is gone you turn to Ashton and he’s just like “so what are you studying anyways?”

-you give him the book to look at and his eyes skim over it, he notices you looking at him and he grins, “i enchanted one of his dust pans to not be able to pick up dust.” Ashton explains, “thats why he’s mad.”

-Ashton hands you the book back and stands, “anyways, thanks for the save, see you around.”

-you watch him go and are still kinda flustered, i mean, he just coerced you into helping him get away with Mischief. now you know why Calum is always covering for Ashton

-your day continues and when its over you head to the Hufflepuff common room, Cal is there and grins when he sees you “there you are! hows it feel being bad?” he teases

-you get a little flustered, “i’m not bad-”

-”Ash says otherwise.” Cal grins

-your heart is pounding like out of your chest, “what did he say?” you squeak

-”aw, nothing bad, i’m just playing.” Cal assures you, “Ash just said you looked really cute all flustered and lying to Filch.”

-yeah, your little Hufflepuff heart can’t handle it

-”don’t tell Ash i told you though.” Calum says

-”i wont.” you say before scurrying away

-not being able to sleep that night because wtf, Ashton thinks you’re cute

-going for breakfast the next morning and Cal sits down next to you, you’re shocked when Ashton sits down across from you

-like Ash has sat at the Hufflepuff table before with Cal, usually their group sits either at Slytherin or Hufflepuff (never Gryffindor) and usually when he sits at the Hufflepuff table all the girls swoon around the group of gorgeous guys

-and now he’s sitting across from you

-”up for another adventure?” Ash grins at you

-”we can’t drag her into this again Ash.” Cal sighs, “she’s too innocent.”

-”stop picking on Hufflepuffs.” Slytherin!Michael says as he sits down next to Ashton, “you’re going to give one of these girls a fucking heart attack some day.”

-Ashton rolls his eyes but is just like, “so, Ravenclaw vs Slytherin Quidditch match this weekend, you guys coming?”

-and its an odd question, because of course Michael is going (he’s the announcer) and Calum always goes… so the question is more directed towards you? but he’s trying to be nonchalant about it?

-of course his friends don’t play along because they both turn to look at you

-”i think i have school work-” you begin to say

-Ashton laughs, “wow, okay, didn’t realize Hufflepuffs could be so harsh.”

-you try to fix your mistake but they all are laughing

-”she would rather do homework than watch you play mate, that’s sad.” Michael is giggling

-they change the topic and conversation continues, it’s mostly them talking to each other about stuff that they’ve done, Ashton explains the incident the day before, it’s just good conversation and then the breakfast is done and you all get up to head to class

-”hey, Y/N, wait up.” Ashton says, catching up to you, “we have class together.” he states

-you know that but you had no idea he’s even noticed that this is one of the classes you share, he usually sits in the back with the other Slytherins while you’re somewhere in the middle with the Hufflepuffs

-”what can i do to convince you to come to the game?” Ashton says as the two of you walk to class

-”i’m really sorry if it seemed like i don’t think its interesting to watch you play-” you begin to apologize again

-everyone knows Ashton always sits in the back corner because he usually slacks off in class or sleeps (word is that he has a different girl every night and thats why he never gets any sleep but you are really starting to doubt that rumour)

-so you follow him to the back of the class, “i’m not taking someone else’s seat am i?” you ask awkwardly

-”Luke usually sits here but he’s sick today.” Ashton answers

-so Ashton has always been flirty with Hufflepuffs, hell he has a whole Hufflepuff fan club of girls who love him, but he never really sits with any of them except Calum

-and yet there you are

-you see girls from his fan club looking at you

-and of course the Slytherin girls are giving you the evil eye as well because Ashton is big news

-you’re trying to pay attention to the teacher and Ashton is kinda just sitting there looking bored

-he tries to talk to you a few times but you make it really obvious that you have to pay attention

-”Classic Hufflepuff.”

-finally you’re just like “yes Ashton, i am Hufflepuff, i pay attention in class and i don’t break the rules, i like getting school work done and yes, if that means missing a Quidditch game, then i do, now if you would please stop distracting me.”

-his eyes kinda widen and he laughs a little but leans back in his chair and doesn’t say anything for the rest of class

-you can’t believe you snapped at him?

-is his Slytherin-ness rubbing off on you already?

-lied to Filch and now you’re snapping at people?

-class ends and you immediately turn to apologize to Ashton and he just laughs, “stop apologizing so much, you’re right. you are a Hufflepuff and i need to respect that.”

-”you’re not mad at me?” you ask nervously as the two of you leave the class

-he shakes his head, “no, besides,” he does that super sweet thing were the guy kinda grabs your cheek you know? “you’re cute when your angry.”

-and then he’s turning and going to his class and you’re standing there shooketh

-classes continue and your last class is also with Ashton, you enter the room and he’s already in the back so you take your seat in the middle

-you’re surprised when someone sits next to you and you turn to see Ashton, he doesn’t look at you though, just looks towards the board where the homework is written down and he begins to scribble it onto a piece of paper

-”what are you doing?” you ask

-”i’m writing down the homework.” he answers

-before you can say anything else, class starts.

-he doesn’t interrupt you at all. in fact, he actually is taking notes and being a good student?

-more shook

-class ends and Ashton turns to you, “i’m thirsty.” he states, “are you thirsty?”

-being kinda confused for a moment because Slytherin’s have been known to say kinda odd shit that is secretly sexual or sometimes talk in weird code and thirsty might mean dtf but you don’t know

-Ashton can see that you’re trying to figure out what he’s saying

-”by thirsty i mean actually thirsty, like, do you want to go get a Butterbeer?” he clarifies

-”um yeah, sure.” you say, laughing that he needed to clarify the whole thing

-so the two of you begin to walk down to the Three Broomsticks

-he tells you about this new secret passage he found and how it makes it easier to get to some classes, he talks about Quidditch for a bit, he talks about Michael almost getting caught in a prank the other day and how he had to step in and protect him because Slytherin’s are loyal

-”i honestly didn’t expect you to help me out with Filch.” he states, “lying out of loyalty is more of a Slytherin thing so i didn’t expect you to lie for me. but you did. and i wanted to say thanks again. i appreciate it.”

-”no problem, it was just a little white lie.” you grin

-continuing to talk until you get drinks then just hanging out and having a good time, walking back to the school and Ashton drops you off at your common room, saying hi to Cal as you get eye-murdered by some Hufflepuff girls, then he leaves

-”so you and Ashton.” Cal grins

-practically dying on Calum’s shoulder because you’re finally able to let out all your anxiety and be super wtf about your whole day being insane

-”not going to lie Y/N, always thought you’d end up with a Hufflepuff but Ashton’s a nice guy, for a Slytherin.” Calum shrugs

-the week continues and Ashton sits with you in all the classes you have together, something Luke was not a fan of when he came back from being sick

-Luke coming back and realizes Ashton is flirting with a Hufflepuff and suddenly Luke is roasting the shit out of Ashton

-”so you and a puff?” Luke grins, “never saw that coming.”

-”i’m not surprised,” Michael laughs, “Ash and Cal have been practically married for years.”

-”it’s not Ashton’s fault he has a soft spot for Hufflepuffs.” Cal shrugs

-so it’s game day and at breakfast you’re sitting with all four of them, something thats become almost normal for the five of you

-Ash has to leave early for warm up but before he goes he turns to you, “here, a final incentive for you to come to the game.” he states, wrapping his green scarf around your neck

-”great, now you’re guilt tripping the poor Puff.” Luke laughs

-Ashton rolls his eyes and leaves

-you are wearing Ashton fucking Irwin’s green scarf

-it dawns on you after a little while that usually only girlfriends wear scarves

-the looks of jealousy from other girls are insane

-going to the game and Ashton is fucking gorgeous as a beater, lets be serious

-Slytherin wins and the four of you go down to the pitch to congratulate Ashton  

-as you go in for a hug he grabs your face and kisses you while his friends all whistle

-pulling away a flustered mess because holy shit
