On the Cat King, and how he courted Edwin very reminiscent to an actual cat. I will also do Monty's version in another post.

Props to @moriartea42 for this post because the way they described Cat King vs Monty's approach to Edwin made a lightbulb light up in my head.

Let's start with how the cats court one another. Because I think it's so funny sm of us have been saying "of course he trails after Edwin the way he does, cats are predators" and then we didn't think of mating habits of cats.

According to this website(and some others, but I really didn't wanna go back and link all of them, you can google and fact check some more if you are curious) cats courtship can last few days, due to the fact that female cats often play "hard to get" or if a male cat approaches them too early in the mating process.

Personally I think this is SO FUNNY in the context of Edwin and the Cat King's interactions. First of all, another thing that is very important to cat courtship is scent. And what is one of the first things the Cat King does when he is alone with Edwin? Literally smells him. 😭😂 Then he makes his offer and-Edwin is uncomfortable. So the Cat King pulls back. Like a cat would, if their partner gave a signal they courted them too early!

We see it again in episode 4 when he calls Edwin away from his friends. The Cat King prowls around him, shows off his tricks, plays into his desires, but when Edwin says "Stop it!" He pulls back. Of course, Edwin isn't a woman, but I think the analogy is pretty clear, given female cats are the one that have the power of chosing the partner-and to reject them until they find their courtship satisfactory.

Their meeting in the forest further highlights this. Cat King saw Monty flirting with Edwin and kissing him and while Edwin rejected him as well, he saw that Edwin did care for Monty. And what do Tomcats(hehe, see what I did there?) do in that situation? They make sure to defend their territory, but they are usually not very vengetful once they do, given most their attention is on the partner they wish to court.

Reminds you of something? Cat King exposing Monty's betrayal, kissing him as payback and then...letting him go. Because trying to flirt with Edwin again was his priority. Because he was trying to impress him. But he gets rejected, again at which point he lashes out. The first time I watched DBDA, I was slightly surprised by his reaction. Because what did he expect?

But if we look at it from cat's instinct perspective, it makes much more sense, doesn't it? He courted Edwin, he showed him why he should choose him, he scared off his rival. He did everything right, by cat standards.

Now, I am NOT saying Cat King is stupid or that he doesn't understand how humans work or that human boundaries are different. I think he does-to a degree. But I think we should also consider the fact that it's not unlikely some instinctual stuff is still there. Especially when a lot of it can and does align with the way people used to court each other! In modern times playing hard to get happens a lot less, but if we go back few centuries, it was quite common for women to feign disinterest first and make the man work for their affection. So is it truly so difficult to believe Cat King was under the impression such tactic would work on Edwin?

To reader, perhaps it's obvious that the language would no longer be the same but... it really hits them seeing it be so different right in front of them. You'd probably freak out a bit, considering literally no one can understand you, nor can you understand them.

Besides your lover, of course. Good thing he's a genius and made sure to preserve the old language for this day, and also program it into his segments. Thankfully, they are all quite patient in the process, as switching between languages is a piece of cake for them. I imagine you try very hard to learn certain words and phrases (how does one flirt in modern Teyvat? did courtship change much in 400+ years...? 🤔) in order to surprise him. Just don't do it too quickly... he will flirt back in much more advanced language that you don't quite understand yet and he'll laugh at your frustrated face. Eclipsa is growing, just like Klee slower (there is a theorh that says that Klee is 80 but is also 8 bc she is growing 10 times slower than normal) and everu 100 it adds 1 year rlto her age. Now, lets say that when she was 10(1000) she overheared somebody say that the archons dont actually like her (like parental figures ofc) and that they probably just cang get rid of her. She actually belivd them like a dumb child that she is and ran away (opened a portal to another world and dissapeared without anybody's knoladge). Now, lets just say for the sake of this au to make it more interesting (maybe more cringe but I am having fun ok?😭) that the disaster from Khaenri'ah happened bc the person occ heared it was a khaenriah'n and THP since finding this out was like "OH HELL NAHH" and this iz the reason they destroyd Khaenria'h. THP gave the archons untill Eclipsa was to turn 16 to find her. Well, now, at 15, she randomply (and awkwardly) came back. (Maybe she finally got into her head the ideea of checking Irmansole to see if the archons truly hated her and surprise surprise, ints not true). Now, imagine the characters meeting Occ in their nation. For Venti- at windrise, for Ei in the city (near the statue), for Nahida just at the spirit tree (maybe one of her little friends passed that message for her) and for Furina(back when she was still an archon) she was told from Neuvillette that he sensed Occ's presence(lets just say that higher ups are aware of Eclipsa's existance, including Furina. Perhaps she has read about Oc in one of the books she read to find a solution to Fontaine's profecy).

About personalit I see her as somebody who is quite the drama queen and loves attention 24/7. She loves pulling pranks all the time and also like annoyng people, but in a joking way. About her powers, she is developing since young THP's powers but since she is not even 18, its definetly not as affective.

So many years spent in isolation, all Ei could think about was her sister and Eclipsa, she swore if she could just get them back, she would protect them both with her life, she just wants things to go back to normal, like it used to be.

So many years had passed that Ei nearly didn't recognize Eclipsa, she had so many questions for her, but she didn't say a single one... screw The heavenly Principles, she was going to protect her as best she could, Eclipsa don't even get a chance to talk before she was shut inside the plane of Euthymia.

Nahida: She doesn't have much knowledge of Eclipsa, she isn't recorded in the Irminsul, all the knowledge Nahida has of her is what her predecessor left for her she didn't forget, she is confused why Eclipsa isn't around... did she dissapear or worse, did she die?

Nahida is confussed when she feels Eclipsa's precence by the Irminsul, it feels familiar but she can't figure out why, of course like the curious 500 year old child she is, she went to figure out what caused such familiarity... Nahida knew who it was the second she laid eyes on her, this is who she is supposed to protect like the Greater Lord she once did.

Nahida asks a lot of questions, why is she here? Why was she gone? Eclipsa is now her favorite subject to learn about, Nahida takes up some kind of little sister role to stay close with her, she needs to know everything, feed her ever-growing curiosity, maybe one day she will introduce Eclipsa to the Wanderer... but that can be later, Nahida wants to be selfish for a bit longer.

Venti: He isn't all that interested in following The Heavenly Principles orders, but he still did as to not occur her wrath... he did not expect to take care of a child, he wasn't the best, he got constantly drunk, never took anything serious, except for protecting Eclipsa from any danger.

It was no surprise that Venti felt such fear and despair when Eclipsa dissapeared, he had lost yet another loved one... why does he still care, it always happens anyways, no relation lasts forever, no matter how much he tries to drown the memory of her in even more alcohol, it doesn't work

Basically, there are a number of ways you can go about personifying Bengal/Bengali nations, and each of them have their own issue, each of which have their own pros and cons, if my understanding is correct-

There was one original Bengal personification that was Hindu, but around the time that Islam reached Bengal and Bengalis began to convert, another Bengal personification arose to specifically represent Muslim Bengalis.

There was one original Bengal personification that began as Hindu and eventually converted to Islam, going on to become the personification of Bangladesh. No other separate personification arose to represent West Bengal/Bengali Hindus because this original personification still represents them.

There was one original Bengal personification that began as Hindu and eventually converted to Islam, going on to become the personification of Bangladesh. Meanwhile, another Bengal personification later arose to represent West Bengal/Bengali Hindus around the time of British imperialism and/or the Partition.

APPROACH 1

Pros + Reflects the current cultural division between Indian Bengalis and Bangladeshis

Cons - Lowkey justifies the Partition of the subcontinent by implying there were already personifications split on religious lines predating British colonialism

APPROACH 2

Pros + Reaffirms the artificiality of the Partition by there only being one Bengal personification representing all Bengalis regardless of religion

Cons - Does not accurately reflect the irl cultural divide between Indian Bengalis and Bangladeshis and the difference in how they view themselves

Now, choosing one of these approaches will definitely depend a lot on what exactly you're personifying and the historical-geopolitical context at hand, as well as what messages you're not afraid to convey. For example, I personify Afghanistan as representing both Pashtuns in Afghanistan and Pakistan from talking to actual Pashtuns and how they view the border between them, as well as communicating the artificiality of the border. I think it's useful to recognize that the entire process of personifying a nation is basically mapping things like, a nation's ethnogenesis, rise to power, golden age, and eventual decline and destruction to human life events, is always imperfect and sometimes, the allegory falls apart; the Partition is probably one of the best examples of this.

As for how I would go about personifying Bengal? I would probably for a variation of Approach 1, where instead of there being multiple Bengali personifications split on the basis of religion, there would be multiple Bengali personifications split on the basis of regional and cultural differences. (Correct me if I'm wrong, as I am an outsider to this, but there are sub-groups and regional differences in language and culture even within Bengal, right?) Because of there being multiple Bengali personifications, some of them would be Muslim, some of them would be Hindu, and by the time of Partition, the personifications representing the lands of modern day Bangladesh and/or Muslim Bengali communities would move to join/represent the nation of Bangladesh while those representing Hindu Bengali communities would join India. This approach still has its issues, and may still validate/justify the Partition in the eyes of some people, but I go for it because it fulfill my most important conditions-

Doesn't make any of the Bengal personifications outrageously young

The Bengal personifications are personified based on regional and cultural divides that predate colonialism and imperialism

Them having to consciously choose sides post-independence and having to separate from one another accurately reflects the artificiality of the Partition and how it split up communities.

That's just my take, ofc, as a non Bengali and as someone who hasn't done as much research into the region as I'd like to, feel free to disagree and choose whatever approach feels most accurate according to you and your research!!

One of the first songs I listened to after POTO. When I tell you I all but SCREAMED when I first listened to this. THE ENDING PART SPECIFICALLY WHAT THE ACTUAL HECK, HADLEY 😭

2. All I Ask Of You (from The Phantom of the Opera)

Comfort song comfort song COMFORT SONG and also THE SCENE!?? This song is honestly what made me fall in love with Raoul 🥹 HIS VOICE IS FREAKING GORGEOUS HERE I CANNOT

3. Moving Too Fast (from The Last 5 Years)

THE ENERGY HE PUTS INTO THIS SONG PLEASE IT'S SO FUN AND HIS RANGE?? TERRIFIES ME ACTUALLY WTH. Like I love Jeremy Jordan's version obviously but I think I love Hadley's more (idk if I'm biased or what but I genuinely do. I feel like the energy and personality he puts into the song is just. Perfection. and so so FUN. he literally goes BLEUAAAGH at some point HAHAHA. PLUS THE ACCENT WHHDWHHDWHH).

4. Born to the Battle (from The Far Pavilions)

Okay because how does he DO THAT- the way he sustains that, I think, MIXED BELT?? OR SOMETHING LIKE THAT??? I COULD NEVER. Also the ACTING IN THIS SONG IS PHENOMENAL 😭 I don't even know the context of this song but I felt ALL the emotions wjfjwjrjwd

5. If I Only Had A Heart (from The Wizard of Oz

Unfortunately a lesser known performance of his, this is honestly genuinely one of my favorites of all time. He does the old-timey voice so WELL oh my GOODNESS. His VOICE. It's like BUTTER. MMMM. He does NOT need to make it sound that attractive 😭

Just Let Go (ANOTHER COMFORT SONG and also an original written by Hadley!! His voice is so soothing here I cannot 😭),
