Hc that the reason Brawl plays generally slower than the other games is because the events of Subspace Emissary screwed with/destabilized the fabric of reality and put many things off track, including tears between dimensions (which is how Snake could become the first 3rd party character followed by Sonic) as well as gravity, which then balanced itself out by the time of Sm4th and Ultimate.

And while we’re at it, the conspicuous undefined canyon area we keep seeing in the following games (like Megaman‘s trailer but also happens to be the exact place Kirby crash-lands after Ultimate) is one of the places that got nuked by the subspace void bombs during SE, leaving a highly unstable reality behind after the void bubble went away. That’s why new characters tend to be near or in it, and how Kirby could escape the thanos-ing of the entire multiverse, because the place technically exists between them.

Judging you, hard. Though he ain't saying it. His aura is practically smellable he's judging you so hard.

Does he like it? No. It's loud, obnoxious, and profound filled. Ignoring the obvious "gay sex and other weirdness" part, the volume of the music reminds him of his childhood.

He's smashing the device the music is coming from. He doesn't care if it's your MP3 all the way to a damn TV or Alexa, he's smashing that shit to pieces if it means he doesn't need to hear it anymore.

What would he put on instead? Calming ambient noises that play for hours on end on YouTube. It's the exact opposite of whatever hellscape you just played. It's better.

Being best friends with Alejandro & Rudy

Alejandro is generally a very touchy person. And if not touchy then very verbally aggressive in his affection. You are no exception to this. He's always right there, loud and proud of you. Encouraging you.

Rodolfo is much quieter. He keeps his hands to himself and gives you reassuring nods or occasional encouragement.

The two are like day and night and it was hard to get used to both of them each. But they complimented each other nicely.

Starting with Rudy, at first his mute expressions set you off a little. You were unnerved slightly as first by his silent, watching eyes. Always on you, always watching and yet you were unable to read him. You admit you might have been a tad scared of him at first.

Until he started to speak, loosening up around Alejandro when you were all together and it finally gave you the opportunity to crack into him and understand him some more.

Slowly Rudy became a little more expressive around you. His training always kicks in and sometimes he forgets to smile, or it's strained when he tries. But you know he means well and slowly that smile loosens and feels natural around you.

You make him smile.

Whenever going on beach outings Alejandro would much rather stay on the beach by the food and drinks. While Rodolfo is always in the water. He loves to surf and when you wanted to learn he immediately perked up in a way you hadn't seen before.

He is skilled on his board, and the first time you heard him really laugh was after attempting a trick and falling like a ragdoll into the wave.

Despite the laughter he was still very concerned for you but still.

You loved to play videogames with Rudy. Even if he had way more experience with videogames, and he'd been playing them longer. It was always fun.

And they both could make the most amazing food. Rudy always has a music playlist he puts on when him and Alejandro are cooking. Often Alejandro trying to push Rudy out of the way and get you out of the kitchen so he can cook for you two.

"Y/n- get out of my kitchen, estoy tratando de hacer que la comida, Te voy a dar una bofetada con esta espátula si no salir!" I'm trying to make you food, I'll slap you with this spatula if you don't get out! (Apologies if the translation is wrong.)

Rudy chuckles, leaving his speaker in the kitchen. "Fine, but don't expect to win."

"No you won't."

"Yes... yes I will!"

"Not a chance."

"Rudy stop that!"

He chuckles and sits down, taking his controller.

He did in fact beat you. No surprise though.

Ale loves to cook for you both. He loved to cook for everyone but other than affection and words of affirmation, food is his love language. He absolutely loves showering you in delicious pounds of food. Making sure You're well fed every single time.

Both of them get pretty touch starved. Along with being proactive, they too are in the group of soldiers who happen to get carried away in their work far too often.

It has happened a few times where you've had to drag them away from their desks or get them out of the sun and make them take a break. Or they'll get so exhausted on their own they'll drag themselves to come find you.

Whenever Rudy gets to the point of needing emergency cuddles you better be prepared to never move from that spot again.

Rudy slipped into your office, noticing you were particularly busy. He could work around that. Instead of trying to grab your attention he pushed the chair back slightly. Getting down on his knees and leaning forward to wrap his arms around your waist, forehead on your knees. He closes his eyes, relaxing.

You smile softly, noticing his attempt to not disturb you. You run your hand over his scalp and through his hair. "Hey Rudy."

He hums in reply, not moving.

"I'm almost done and then we can go somewhere more comfy ok?"

Rudy hums again, nodding a little.

Ale in the same sense. But he's at least cuddly in a way that if you need to get up for the bathroom or vice versa then he will let you go. Rudy won't. So better be prepared.

They both care for you and incredible amount as well. Ale was always joyful around you but when you get hurt or kidnapped or anything he's afraid. Confidence going down and nerves working up as he scrambles to do everything he can. He manages to keep it together with Rudy until they get in and find you.

Rescuing you they finally can hug you tightly and hug you in absolute relief.

Rudy unlocked the door, opening it and rushing in, Ale following. Their eyes immediately locked onto your body at the back of the room tied to a chair.

"Querido Señor gracias - y/n!! ¡Estás bien!" Dear Lord thank you- y/n!! You are ok!

Alejandro rushes up to you, kneeling down. He tilted your head, cursing when he saw your wounds. Rudy came over and cut the ropes, gently bringing your arms down.

"There, just relax, we've got you."

"Rudy... Al..." you whispered, looking at them with droopy eyes, filling with relief.

"We're here y/n, we came as soon as we got word. We're getting you home ok?"

They are incredibly respectful when if you introduce them to your family. They trust you and invite you into their family that they invite you down to celebrate holidays with them like Day of the Dead and Christmas. Really any holiday, or special occasion they make sure you get an invitation, whether you can go or not.

"So... you set these up for loved ones??" Al nodded, showing you the ofrenda that they had made for you. "And for you, for anyone you know."

You reach in your jacket and pull out the photo you keep there over your heart, smiling seeing it. Walking over and putting the photo up. "I miss you..." you whisper, seeing the photo surrounded by the flowers and gently flickering candles.

Rudy and Al also having their photos set up of family and fallen close friends.

You were glad you were invited to join in this special celebration with them. It made you feel special and a part of them family in a new way.

Alejandro is very open about his background. Telling you how he grew up, about his family, crazy and funny stories growing up working hard in the military. He always gets a laugh out of you.

Rudy is a little more hush hush about it. While Alejandro doesn't tell you things about Rudy he knows Rudy wouldn't appreciate, it just makes him more of a mystery.

Alejandro teaches you self defense and loves to spar with you all the time. Intense training, casual, he loves it all.

Rudy teaches you how to use a giant police taser.

Rudy has many taser, all shapes and sizes, he teaches you to use them all.

"Are you sure this will actually work on the field??"

Rudy nods. "Of course it will. Just turn it on and-" The taser crackles as he jabs it. "Get them where it hurts. Stomach or below really does the trick."

"Rodolfo!" Alejandro chides him from across the room. Rudy just nods to you. "He knows I'm right."

It's a chaotic, loving relationship you have with them. They do everything to make you smile, happy, comfortable, and they are amazing role models of respect. (most of the time 🤭)

Let's be honest they were the rowdy ones when they were in the military in the younger years and nothing has changed. They aren't called Los Vaqueros for nothing y'know.

So they do become incredibly rowdy. Smart men but you are a little stunned when they are put in a room together they go dumb. They do some wild shit together and often end up dragging you into their antics.

Yes, yes Rudy plays pranks and no one is safe. But instead of pranks he calls them solutions. He rigged air horns in the barracks when the recruits felt like getting up slightly later so 5:30 on the dot they go off in every room. He always can hear it from far away and it's a joy.

He did it to you once. You were pissed at him but this time he managed a smile, playing it off like nothing and inviting you on his morning run around base before it started to really warm up.

Hiking buddies.

Like you can hike with all of them but these guys are the hiking guys. They both have a very good grasp on the nature around them, Alejandro knowing more about the wildlife when Rudy is way into all the plants, fungi, and what not.

Not only is it a beautiful hike in nature but it's also pretty nice to learn some stuff along the way.

Both of them tell dad jokes. It's a rule, they just do. Rudy started doing it a lot more when he realized Ghost also has dad jokes for you and then Al picked up on it and now you're aren't safe from anyone.

Dad jokes everywhere. Rudy's are a little more morbid and along Ghost's lines but Al just had really shitty ones that make you smile.

And there is probably so so so much more that I'm missing right now but I hope this suffices for now. Go out into the world and take a Vaquero with you.

Something I love about the Mario movie is how is basically squashed any kind of ideas of Luigi being jealous of Mario from the get go that fans have come up/theorized throughout the years.

The whole “Luigi is jealous and tired of living in Mario’s shadow” has no leg to stand on when it comes to this movie.

In fact, Luigi is actively the one singing praises towards Mario, he knows that his brother dreams big and has a big heart, he knows his brother is amazing and he loves him for that.

Does he have low self esteem? Absolutely. But there is absolutely not a single bit of jealousy/envy towards Mario, Luigi loves and adores him far too much to ever be jealous and angry at Mario, someone who means the absolute world to him.

Oh don't you get me started.

Too late, I’ve gotten started. YOU ARE SO RIGHT. The movie did to theories that Luigi's “bitter and jealous” what it did to theories that Mario’s an antisocial asshat.

There are two things I can point to that are to blame for the theories that Luigi is bitter and jealous:

The description of his Negative Zone final smash from Super Smash Bros. Brawl:

"Luigi's final smash. As exotic music plays, he performs a dance befitting a sorcerous incantation. A barrier envelopes him, negatively impacting all in his area. Random effects include getting launched, sleeping, moving in slow motion, tripping, fainting, and losing attack power. This technique is a reflection of the dark side he embraced in his brother's shadow."

2. His characterization in Paper Mario

But there’s like… almost 40 years of games to glean from. You can literally pick and choose whatever you want to form any sort of theory (like a certain internet man did when arguing that Mario is an animal abusing sociopath). But 99% of the games show about as much evidence that Luigi is bitter as they do that Mario is a bad person– none at all. Quite the opposite, in fact.

As for Paper Mario, it's the only time Luigi is directly characterized as envious... NOT jealous. He still loves his brother and sees him as worthy of the praise he gets, but he feels bad being stuck at home, and desperately wants to be brought along for the adventure– to have his opportunity in the limelight. But Paper Mario is kind of its own thing, established to be a separate universe from the mainline Mario games. In the Super Mario Brothers RPGs– which delve deeper into the bros character while remaining more aligned with the classic "canon"– the dynamic is quite the opposite! Mario dives headfirst into danger while Luigi desperately avoids it unless there is no other choice. In Super Mario Brothers Superstar Saga he tries his darndest to not be taken along for the adventure, confident that his brother can handle the task.

But one consistent across the Mario games is Luigi being the underdog of all underdogs; unlucky and clumsy, the butt of the joke, and constantly undermined. Naturally this causes people to get defensive of him– get angry for him, and project their feelings onto the character himself.

But tHEN WE HAVE THE MOVIE!!!!

Nintendo is given a chance to craft Mario and Luigi into fully fleshed-out characters with motivations and backstories, not just plucky videogame personalities for people to project themselves into, and boy oh BOY did they knock it out of the park.

While Mario is still a headstrong hero with a never-say-die attitude and a heart of gold, everything he does is for his brother. Mario has insecurities about feeling small and wants to prove himself to his father, but in the end his love for Luigi is his main motivator. Mario can handle being threatened, made fun of, and told he’s crazy, but if you want to truly hurt him, tell him his actions are hurting his brother. Try hurting Luigi directly, and Mario will tear you a new one.

In return, everything Luigi does is for Mario! Lu’s not the willful ball of determination and gusto that his brother is– he has always been nervous, softhearted, and sensitive, which is why he lets his brother lead the way. Luigi’s not living in Mario’s shadow, he’s thriving off of his confidence! He recognizes Mario as his best friend and greatest source of strength, and will follow him absolutely anywhere.

There is no sense of Mario being treated like the beloved star of the show while Luigi gets the short end of the stick. They are both downtrodden, both learning, and both dependent on each other. It's not just Super Mario, it's the Super Mario Brothers, who equally inspire each other to be the best version of themselves.

it was gifted to you on christmas about two years ago. you’ve always dwelled on wanting one of your own, but never had the balls to go out of your way to purchase one because they could get pretty pricey. a lot of your extensive research and effort you spent scouring the internet to find the perfect vinyl record you’d like pointed to signs of something completely out of your budget. well, not completely, but unrealistically obtainable with the numbers you’ve been receiving paycheck-to-paycheck from your job.

so, each time that the holidays were around the corner, and whenever your mother would ask for your christmas wishlist, you’d throw in several other items you’d like but never included the idea of wanting a vinyl record. that secret desire of yours was something you kept to yourself, something you never brought up in conversation, nor was it something you’d expect to receive unless it was coming out of your pockets.

lo and behold, on the morning of a wintery cold december 25, when you were gathered around the christmas tree with your siblings and parents to open your presents, there sat a box with a fragile sticker stuck to the wrapping.

“Sixth win a row!” Mark cheered, jumping up with his arms held high.

You stayed seated on the couch, wondering how with each passing round you seemed to get worse. You picked a new character for every round, even going for the “easiest characters to win with” as stated in an article you googled four rounds ago. Super Smash Bros. was harder than it looked.

Mark smiled at your face, cute and lost in thought. He had to admit you were acting very well, like you couldn’t figure out why you kept losing.The next round you would surely win. You were always winning a handful of rounds in the game night you both had with the dreamies, but you and Mark were always on the same team. This time you were playing against one another. 

He pressed the buttons on the controller, watching you choose a new character, telling you he always had a hard time playing against the boys when they played as Mario. Yeah, that was a lie. Mario was one of the most boring characters you could have chosen after the past rounds of playing as cooler characters that could fly, create force fields, and create lightning. But they proved to be very uncool when their powers did nothing but make you lose.

The round started up again, and you died within a minute. You ran right off the stage and watched your character descend from the sky. You sighed, annoyed at how bad you were at this game. How could you beat Haechan and Jeno, who spent a lot of their free time gaming, but you couldn’t beat Mark who ranked in the bottom consistently for game nights?

Mark eyed you inconspicuously, maybe he should let you win. Your fake pout and frustration was doing a good job at making him feel bad for you. Maybe after you won a round, you’d get back into the swing of the game and finally be a worthy opponent. 

His character went to attack your own, jumping at a weird time so he fell off the screen- one life down. The next life was gone when Mark dropped his controller and had the worst case of butter fingers so you could beat his character who wasn’t moving at all. The last life was gone when for every three moves your character made, Mark’s made one. To any bystander, it would be obvious that Mark had let you win, but to you it felt genuine. 

You hopped up off the couch with your arms raised in victory, “Finally!”

A few rounds later, you were both tired. Ten rounds of Super Smash could do that to you. The final score was Mark-7 and you-4. What? He had to win one more round to make it seem real. 

Then started the Mario Kart and you placed first 10 times in a row when Mark struggled to even make it past 8th place. Now it was his turn to be frustrated, “Stop winning!”

“Stop sucking!” You replied with a smile, watching as you crossed the finish line (first place again) while Mark had just gone over a banana, putting him in 11th place. 

Eventually time ran out, and you cheered for your win again.”I understand now why you let me win Smash. You’re totally kicking my ass in Mario Kart. Can you do what I did and let me win some now?” Mark asked.

You stopped pressing the buttons on the controller, turning to look at Mark, “I didn’t let you win Smash- did you let me win?!”

“Uh yeah! I dropped my controller nine times in a row- you let me win!”

“Why would I lose on purpose Mark? You saw me google the easiest characters for beginners and I button mashed for every round and still lost!”

“Well you win like every round with the dreamies why would you lose against me?” He questioned, eyebrow raised as if he was still accusing you of losing on purpose.

“We don’t play Smash with them Mark! I don’t play Smash, maybe that’s why I don’t win! I’m just so horrible you give me wins out of pity.” You huffed, crossing your arms across your chest. 

You could hear the music from the game playing over and over while you saw Mark’s face slowly coming into your line of sight. Every time you turned, he was there, with his big, puppy, boba eyes.

“Sorry for being a sore loser, will you love me again? And take pity on me and at least let me win one single round?”

“I love you, but you haven’t even seen me at my best. There’s no way you’re going to beat me now, baby,” You stated calmly, gently caressing his cheek. He could almost see the exact moment your eyes hardened from tranquil and loving to a competitive need to win.

Mark was in deep trouble, with Mario Kart sure, but your peacefully stated threat was hot. How was he going to pay attention to winning when all his focus would be on why he was getting warm under the collar. Maybe this would be a win for the both of you in the end.

I’m not that knowledgeable in music performance unfortunately (i played violin for 6 years but the game doesn’t touch a whole lot on Toya’s experience with it compared to piano and also he was. Significantly better than me so) but I have. Something kinda related?

I will admit, I have not had a chance to read this event yet with how busy I’ve been with college, so don’t take this seriously at all, but from what I’ve gathered, and also just this card, this is the least chaotic student film I have ever seen.

Like, I go to film school. I’ve had to make a few short films. At best we just mess around a bit (a lot) while filming, and at worst some of our team dips and the remaining crew just start playing smash bros instead. And this is with small 3-6 person groups. How the hell are they making this big production with the proper equipment and organisation at a general school and a class of like 30 students akajshs?? Maybe that’s just my own experience but still. Whole class activities are a mess always.

The concept of their film though does seem like the kinda shit you get in a student short film though so I’ll give them that.

Also this popped into my head while writing but something closer to the first point would be that wandasho create the scripts/sets/costumes/etc for their plays very quickly a lot of the time. I appreciate Curtain Call for actually acknowledging that that play specifically took multiple months to produce, because sometimes they do these things in much shorter timeframes and god I wish I could work that fast

you started tearing up until you heard a knock on your door

Random Shuriri hc's

Riri definitely forces Shuri to make tik toks with her. Specifically dances. Riri teaches Shuri the dance beforehand and then makes her do it 1000 time's with her once she knows it.

In the house they both love being comfortable. Shuri is most likely always wearing sweatpants and a plain tee-shirt. Riri on the other hand wears her sports bra and some short boxers, and if her hair isn't in braids she lets her curls down. The first time Shuri saw Riri dressed like that she was literally acting like a cat in heat.

Shuri starts using aave after dating Riri for a while. It catches Riri completely off guard.

They play games together. Specifically smash bros, cod and saints row. Riri screams loud as hell when she dies in a game. Shuri is definitely the sore loser out of the two, while Riri rubs it in her face that she lost.

"Maybe you'll win next time baby" Riri said showing fake sympathy teasing Shuri.

"I wanna play again you cheated" Shuri pouted.

"Ima just beat yo ass again but ok" Riri said while starting the game back up.

Shuri is a wild sleeper. It's not her fault though she grew up having a big ass bed to herself. Shuri also talks in her sleep. When she first spent the night in Riris dorm, Riri tried to tell her about it the next morning but Shuri didn't believe her.

Riri loves cuddling. She would jump in Shuris skin if she could. She likes being the big spoon so she can touch and feel all over Shuri, and play in her hair. Riri loves playing in Shuris hair, she usually does it until Shuri falls asleep.

They're both the jealous type. Shuri gets jealous when women get too friendly with Riri and it drives her insane. Riri tries to tell Shuri they're just being cordial. Riri on the other hand gets jealous over little things like Shuri laughing at someone's joke a little too hard for her liking. Shuri knows when Riri is starting to feel jealous because Riri gives her the stankest face ever.

In 2010, Rayman was dead. After two popular minigame collections with his then-co-stars, the Rabbids, Rayman was usurped from his throne as Ubisoft’s mascot and relegated to cameo appearances in games like Academy of Champions: Soccer. Sam Fisher has suffered a similar fate recently.

Then, a miracle - Ubisoft released Rayman Origins, a gorgeous 2D platformer with excellent movement, incredible music, and enough charm to make you forget all about the limbless wonder getting kicked out of his own series. Not a Rabbid in sight.

Origins was an incredible new beginning for Rayman, but it was only the beginning. Two years later, Ubisoft Montpellier did it again with Rayman Legends. Not content to simply be an improvement on the first game, Legends was one of the best 2D platforming games of all time. It looked like things were only going to get better.

Unfortunately, despite massive critical success, Rayman faded into the background once more, with only a few minor mobile games since then. Now, his long decade of silence is finally over thanks to Ubisoft Milan who, ironically enough, have brought Rayman back in a game that stars the very creatures who originally kicked him out.

“I would say that I started thinking about the DLC as soon as I saw the work on Sparks of Hope going in the right direction,” Sparks of Hope’s creative director Davide Solani tells me. “I loved the idea of closing this fantastic journey of Sparks of Hope with Rayman, as Rabbids were originally introduced in a Rayman game. I felt it was the correct thing to do”.

Rayman in the Phantom Show marks Rayman’s first appearance in a game in some time, which gave Ubisoft Milan the opportunity to redesign the character for his reintroduction, which also marks the first time he’s been in 3D since his Super Smash Bros. Trophy model in 2014.

Solani tells me that extensive work went into designing Rayman’s new look for the game, with the idea being to aim for something “new, current, and fitting for our universe”. Specific effort went into Rayman’s facial expressions and the body and shoes, for which the team challenged themselves to “dare a little” by introducing pockets and a larger hood to give the limbless wonder more comfort and a sense of identity outside of adventuring.

Of course, one of the most important elements of Rayman’s design is his hair which, beyond the whole lack of limbs thing he’s got going on, is one of the key parts of the character’s identity. Rayman’s hair is used both to fly and to look fly, and it’s a core part of this look.

“[It’s] one of the most 'representative' parts of the character,” Solani says. “We wanted to avoid just an indistinct mass, but also not to go overboard with details. We therefore focused on creating this balance between volume and details. A fully animatable tuft that would help to underline the character's charisma and emotions.”

Rayman may have a new design this time around, but Sparks of Hope isn’t above referencing the hero’s past. The Phantom Show is stuffed with nods to Rayman’s history, including reworked versions of his combat fatigues from Hoodlum Havoc, a cutout of Globox and some plum juice from the same game, a cardboard recreation of the first level from the adventure that started it all, and even some shoutouts to the pirates from Rayman 2.

Another Easter Egg Solani points out is Rayman’s weapon in the game, which resembles the plunger gun that he used in Raving Rabbids. You’d think that Rayman would want to avoid memories of that particular encounter considering everything that happened after, but he’s rocking a brand-new one in the Phantom Show.

“I loved the idea of paying a tribute to the plunger, in a way,” Solani tells me. “With my team, we’ve imagined how a new plunger could look like years later, and how this new basic weapon could be transformed through the various costume transformations, and what special ability could result from each. It was a fun process for us.”

It’s not just Rayman himself who returns for the Phantom Show, as the DLC also sees the return of David Gasman, the voice of the limbless wonder for nearly all of the games in the series before Douglas Rand took over the role for Origins, Legends, and the mobile spin-offs.

“Like many players, for me, David Gasman is Rayman’s voice. Also, we did use David as Rabbid Mario in Sparks of Hope, and it was a tremendously fun experience working with him. The idea of having him going crazy to voice both Rayman and Rabbid Mario was too good to miss. “

One of the most interesting things about the DLC is that it’s not just a reunion between Rayman and the player, it’s a reunion between Rayman and the Rabbids as well. The limbless wonder hasn’t been on-screen with them properly since TV Party, with only a small cameo from the screaming nuisances in Rayman Adventures between then and now.

The DLC plays into this time gap, with Rayman holding a grudge against the Rabbids when he first runs into them. Solani says that this was one of the ideas that the team worked with and that they loved seeing Rayman and the Rabbids bickering, but that they start to work together across the expansion, as Rayman quickly gets over his grudges in the name of being a hero.

Rayman in the Phantom Show closes the door on Rayman’s past while being brutally honest about the hero’s long absence. It has fans wondering if the DLC opens another door for his future, one that many want Ubisoft Milan to be involved with.

“We don’t know yet what we’ll do in the future,” Solani says. “But I can assure you that working on Rayman was a true honour for all of us.”
