it's snooze tumblr live Monday for me, yeah? I go to my settings, do the thing, leave my settings, and now

WILL NOT GO AWAY. IT USED TO!!! every week I could snooze tumblr live and my little bar would once again know peace. but not today. no. not even when I closed the app in the hopes that maybe it just needed a reload. but no. this is just what we're doing now.

and the worst thing. the WORST thing. is that fucking NEW flag marker there. even reluctantly going to that tab did not get rid of it. why would you do this. whwy. what did I ever do to you tumbkr why must you hurt me this way

Did Tumblr really change the snooze tumblr live feature from 7 days to 30 but now the fucking thing doesn't even work? I've tried just turning it off and on, clearing the cache, trying again, trying multiple times in a row, restarting my phone. Nothing. The little live thing on the dashboard taunts me. Fuck off. Fix this broken ass site

So to my understanding Snooze Tumblr Live on mobile as a toggle IS working, for those confused. The issue is that Tumblr has changed what that toggle controls. Not only has it switched from 7 days snoozed to 30 days snoozed, but it has also changed *what* exactly is being snoozed.

If you look at the wording, it specifically says you toggle to snooze it “from your dashboard”. I take this to mean that what you are actually snoozing now is Tumblr Live video recommendations popping up at the top of your dashboard feed. What you seemingly can’t snooze anymore is the icon on your taskbar.

They have changed this function so that the icon will stay there on the bottom of the screen from now on, and all you are snoozing is recommendations on your dashboard tab.

So yeah, it sucks.

Okay I'm on desktop right now and can't screenshot my phone so please excuse this crappy graphic I just spent like 15 minutes making instead of getting my phone out.

So if your app has updated, you may see this little old fashioned film camera icon at the bottom center. (Why they chose to use an image that the general demographic of tumblr is not going to actually be familiar with, I don't know. Hellsite /affectionate.)

If you click through to it, it'll take you to a tiktokified short videos page. Right now it's mostly nonsense with fake influencers and things, but they're definitely trying to add this function to tumblr just like they have Instagram, Facebook, and obviously that's TikTok's whole brand.

You can just ignore it. OR you can go into Account > Account settings > Dashboard preferences > scroll to the bottom to find a toggle for "Snooze Tumblr Live for the next seven days."

Officially unofficially, Tuesday is Snooze Tumblr Live Tuesday at this point, and every week I go in and snooze it for another seven days. Because I refuse to lose more time of my life to stupid videos on this app like I already do on others. Hellsite. /derogatory

I saw the post about using blokada to block tumblr live on Android, and then you mentioned blocking domains. How do I block domains?

When you install Blokada 5 and launch it, there should be four tabs at the bottom of the screen. The 2nd-left tab has a symbol of three vertical bars, and when you tap on it, says Activity. From here you can view all the domains your phone is trying to connect to. Any domain that you see in green, you can tap on to add it to the Blocked list.

If you launch Tumblr then go back to the Blokada Activity tab, you should see all the domains it's trying to connect to, including ones like "auth.gateway.tumblr-live.com" (yes, your phone connects to this whenever you launch Tumblr, even if you never open the Tumblr Live page). Tap those suckers and block them! (and if they scroll out of view too quickly, use the search 🔍 at the top of the screen to filter for "tumblr" and you should see them all again.)

No, there is nothing we can do about it we begged tumblr to let it die but they need engagement 🤷‍♀️ When you snooze it, you’ll see your whole UI has changed. That’s normal and trust me, it’s better and easier to use. You’re welcome.

To my veteran blogs, reblog so the newbies can see it. They’re probably still learning how to navigate and can’t search for the tag. Remember we’ve been trained for months what to do and how to run tumblr smoother. This’ll take them some time and this tip will save them headache.
