hm;; i'm kind of at the point right now where I'm not sure if i'll end up actually continuing/finishing the Journal?? I've had a basic outline written out for the entire rest of the story in one of my notebooks, so I know exactly what happens from the point I left off... but actually writing it hasn't exactly worked out very well for the past several months or so. >n<;; there's also a lot of new lore changes that have taken place and i'm ?? kind of not sure how to implement them into what i've already written without rewriting a bunch of stuff as well;;

idk if anyone's even still interested in the story anyway so it probably doesn't matter if I don't update it again. I just wish there were a way for me to still share what happens for anyone who is still curious, but writing new entries just isn't in the cards for me right now. maybe sometime in the future I'll get hit with the inspiration to continue with it? but as of now, probably not.

I guess I'm cool with spoiling the rest of it tho if anyone wants to know what happens - just send me an ask regarding the story and I'm more than willing to share that info :0 don't think i'll be able to really draw much art to explain stuff either so asks are probably the best way for y'all to figure out what happens. if not, then i'll likely just keep a lot of that to myself since i have no idea how else to share it.

I'm not one to think TOO much about how canon characters would react to AU versions of themself, but I feel like Canon Jay would be like oh my First Master is this guy okay (spoiler alert he's not)

Since they both hide their traumas behind jokes, they'd probably see through each other pretty quick and have a mutual trauma dumping session lmao

i also decided that Skybound wouldn't get undone at the end of the season bc i Really Hate that plot point so Canon Jay (or at least how i draw him) and CM! I think Morro would be like a temporary member of the team! He stays with them for a while to recuperate and get used to being alive again, but he does want to work out his own emotions and find a life and purpose outside of trying to be the green ninja. He has a room in the monastery and everything but he's only there like half the time. I DO think it'd be very interesting to have him play a role in Seabound, especially since wind and water would BOTH be affected by everything going down. I'm not sure exactly what that role would be since most of Seabound I was. Sobbing. And I haven't had the heart to rewatch it yet LMAO

Morro's biggest purpose in the AU so far is to help Jay, actually. The two become pretty close as Morro helps Jay go through the same issues HE went through in terms of coping with being an Alive Person again. This is partly self-indulgent bc I want Morro and Jay to be friends so bad so so so bad canon why did you take this from me they could've been pranksters together it wouLD'VE BEEN SO FUN-

also yes! my AU has much more angst than canon heehehehe I like the themes of hurt/comfort that angsty scenarios can provide, so I'm kinda fucking up Jay more than canon does heeheehehehe also it's kind of hard to make "trapped in a video game for half your life and not even realize you're a PERSON" not angsty

I don’t like talking about my work stuff on this blog but, despite my best efforts, my GG stuff is finally overlapping with my work stuff so I feel like I gotta lol.

Patreon’s latest security team debacle on top of them wanting me to send a picture of my actual ID to a mystery 3rd party site (to make sure I’m not a minor and can keep posting N/S/F/W content) has been the final nail in the coffin for me and I’ll be switching over to Ko-Fi come November. It’s going to take a while to move my content over because I’ve been active on Patreon for something like 4 years so I’ll be pausing my main work stuff through October while I get my Ko-Fi set up for a Patreon-like system. 

I was using my Ko-Fi as a tip jar for my GG scanlations and now it’s going to function both as that AND my main art focus. Coincidentally, October is also Inktober. Pausing Patreon/subscriber content is going to free up like a lot of time next month. This is also going to really suck financially because I’ll essentially be out a paycheck lol...

So, for October, for the Inktober/Soltober art challenge, I’m going to try to put more effort into each of the daily drawings than I did last year, where most of them were shitposts, and offer the whole thing (+whatever other Sol/GG drawings I do) as a digital zine for sale at the end of the month.

It is truly so frustrating!! Fandom's ever shrinking attention span combined with the dearth of content that is IMMEDIATELY available in full HD has made it so much harder to stay sane as someone who likes making gifs. I got into gifmaking because there were things I wanted to see for characters I love that weren't getting made by other people. And, despite the extremely specific suffering that our current media/fandom landscape has created, I truly do enjoy giffing. Studying the things that my faves have appeared in on a frame-by-frame level has helped me notice new things about them and their projects, it's made the gaps between appearances (or since their final appearances) more bearable, and has served as an outlet for my own creativity. 

Yet, all that said, it is still frustrating and somewhat demoralizing to know that while gif making hasn’t really gotten any easier or faster, the amount of fandom engagement you’re likely to get has drastically decreased, especially on anything made outside the increasingly small Peak Engagement Window™. (Which, for whatever small number of non-gifmakers might actually be reading this, can be as small as a few hours and is rarely longer than 48 hours).

I don’t want my gifmaking to turn into an endless quest for notes, so I try to ignore this and just make things when I make them. But, at the same time, it is a super weird feeling to know that, due to occasionally having an offline life not always compatible with concentrating my Photoshop based OMG NEW STUFF behaviors into a very small, almost always middle of the night, window of time, the external rewards of anything I make is going to be dramatically lessened.

Further, and I think more importantly, not every gifset idea comes to you on the first viewing. Sometimes there are things that I only notice while rewatching (and not always on the second rewatch) or months or even years later when some new piece of the story is revealed and helps me recontextualize parts of what I’ve already seen. I love it when a rewatch unlocks a new way to present or explore the movies and characters I love; I love giffing parallels I just noticed on rewatch #2143279 of the Captain America Cinematic Universe or finally figuring out how to execute an idea that has been rotting on my gif ideas doc for ages. And, while I know that Tumblr’s userbase has shrunk over time and that MCU fandom in particular is not what it was in 2019, it is still deeply frustrating and annoying to know that, unless deemed Funny™ or possibly involving some level of brand new just dropped 3 minutes ago content, even the best received “Older” Material gif set has a much lower ceiling than it once did. (And, in my opinion, a ceiling that has sunk must faster than the size of this site’s userbase or any particular fandom).

So, yeah, giffing great, but giffing on 2023 tumblr also an exercise in frustration and pressure to make Bad Decisions regarding your own sleep schedule ¯\_(ツ)_/¯!!
