There's a director at work that I technically report to but in the past 18 months we never actually had anything but the most minimal interaction. A godsend, because he (a) tells me nothing/copies me on no emails/shares zero documents (b) talks over me in meetings (c) asks for my input and then never actually wants it/uses it. ANYWAY. For the past two weeks we have been ~collaborating~ on this thing that's due tomorrow (it has not felt very collaborative)

Over a week ago, I pointed out that his approach didn't fit the criteria. Like, at all. A total lack of critical reading skills when it came to the requirements. It seemed so straight-forward to me, and he came up with some kind of complicated mess and when I questioned it, he justified with an incredibly vague rationale.

I tried to explain what I thought the customer was looking for, and rather than listening, he just started talking over me until I gave up. Cue me, emotionally and mentally checking out of the whole project. I mean, idk, he's been in the industry for 50 years, maybe that's how the client likes things. Maybe they just do things differently. But based on my experience, if I presented something this far off base to a customer, I would be flat out rejected with an annoyed letter, if not ripped to shreds with a follow up complaint to my boss. I'm from a different industry, but it's tough and made me nothing if not neurotic. ALAS I'm a newbie here, what the fuck do I know?

FAST FORWARD. the corporate lawyer reviewed it last night and said "wtf this isn't what they asked for". Director is huffing and puffing and trying to explain it. Sales guy is going to have an aneurysm. It's due in 36 hours. I'm going on vacation in 30.

I am enthralled. I am so emotionally divested from the outcome. I cannot wait to see how the meeting later today goes.

I think pathologic is a good game if you know what youre getting into and also if youre a specific type of player (as in if you love getting achievements and buffing up your character pl is not for you)

Pathologic is like an interactive novel you have to get into the story and characters to give a damn especially to get in the mindset of the character you play and they make this easy bc its so well written specifically for a game it depends on the perspectives of our player characters a lot they used the medium perfectly

Example while playing dankovsky you only hear god awful opinions on the Kin from powerful people who exploit them (bc thats part of your circle youre a fancy city doctor after all) you hear they are stupid animals and in the game their backward believes are blocking you from doing your work the first moment you hear of them youre send to kill one and when the man understandably freaks out and tries to defend himself HES the one thats a panicky stupid maniac also the missions you go on you go on to exploit the kin while also looking at them as expendable while your true goal is to heal the townsfolk

In Artemys route you get to talk to this people they are real they are your people they themselves believe they are a herd of animals but thats more like a religious thing "we are all part of one big whole" they obviously have their own thoughts and feelings they have their own complicated inner workings and problems and you can see personalities sprinkled in (how no one really likes the new foreman for example lol) their believes are used agains them to paint them in the worst light you even get to talk to the butchers doing dankovskys quest while they are hiding from the guards while in his route they are a passing thought by design

((unlike in p2 where they actually are a stupid herd???? Which are half human??? Any thats why the plegue didnt kill them?????and they even brought the plegue down upon the earth???? Wtf p2 but thats a post for another day))

Also the termitary in dankovsky route you dont want to get too much invested into that its like idk its the politics of this town you have a full plate with the plegue after all and dont have time to mess around you can even make a deal with big vlad to not say anything to the kains about it all while in haruspex route its like ok why the fuck are my people locked in there from day 1

The haruspex route also makes you run around the steppe and find the beauty of it the herbs are crucial to making the panacea its beautiful and miraculous AND usefull

It really shapes your perspective so masterfully

Even all the running that everyone cant stop complaining about while it can be annoying at times (harusplex route damnnnn youuu) is soooo good at storytelling you can feel the panic of the clock running out the frustration of running around doing useless things just for anyone to just let you work and believe you and not actively try to kill you

From what I remember mako has already met many important characters including 2 future strawhats and a powerful straw hat ally.

Assuming that not too much changes by the time the main story starts. How would these Chracters see mako as meeting her again. Like say meeting a grown up sanji and Law along with th baroque work robin? For me I would at least think sanji and law would be like big brothers to her.

Also any spoilers on who her dad is? Or who mako would be shipped with?

Not much is really different, just that Mako has been alive and in existence for like one more year, making her a year older than what she was originally, but it's also a bit of a mess since like, idk how to tell you, but Shanks is like barely 21 when he has Mako instead of 22, so oop, some things might end up changing, but also god dang, Yassop, you barely knew your own son and now you're just taking care of this rando Shark girl with the others ahahha.

No but seriously, this just means the Red Hair Pirates have Mako longer and that means further disaster because Yassop Daddy experience only goes for like a few months and Mako is half fishman, SO WHOOPS NEW TERRITORY.

So yeah, Robin and Sanji would be ecstatic to see her again, especially since the two of them went their separate ways to pursue their dreams, since Sanji won't get good experience as a cook with Shanks, and Robin, while absolutely delighted to know she is loved and considered important, knows that she has to leave the nest because she can't do what she wants with them and try as they may, they can't help coddling her a bit because Robin mcfucking did not have a good childhood, cmere, you get a hug.

Meanwhile Law would just be happy to see his friend again after so long, to the one person that taught him, alongside Robin, that even monsters deserve to live.

Seeing her thriving and also throwing a wrench in the world government's agenda by just casual exposing cover-ups in order to let the truth shine through....yeah, he’s happy to see her. Genuinely, no joke or nothing. Especially Robin and Sanji, though how the turn tables. He would've thought Mako would've been her own captain to a crew, but nah, she's content letting Luffy do it while being the resident lifeguard cuz she can swim. And also fish. :V

Her dad isn't actually anyone we know but an OC, like a rando mako shark fishman who effectively got picked out of the bunch to pair up with a Kuja Pirate who wasn't exactly considered a good wife for a Celestial Dragon (aka, dude was sterile, or at the very least got poor kid making skills), so curiosity plus pettiness and a bet equals Mako into the mix. Which is very bad.

That said, Mako's bio dad is related to some existing characters. And I will say this, Arlong won't exactly take to well to ever seeing her, because she serves as a constant reminder in a cog to a tragedy.

(Hint: it involves Koala going home - you can figure it out there, but yeah, Mako's uncle is pretty famous :V)

(He also had a hand in how Mako's mother was able to escape and while Mama was hoping to go back to Amazon Lily, she at least was in a safe place amongst Shanks crew when she gave birth to Mako)

Originally, i didn't have romance in mind, but honestly, I'm at a whatever happens, happens, because Mako's circumstances are so unique and complicated, that her situation allows her complexity, given how 17 seems to be the age at which people are considered adults or at least allowed to drink, and being a pirate just adds to it, mixed in with being someone who has a bounty.

Romance isn't off the table for her, so keep an eye out for it. Dont expect anytjing until after the time skip tho, she’s a little like Luffy in that it's the last thing on her mind lmao.

But also she's got a storm coming her way come Whole Cake Island because Big Mom wants Shanks's daughter for connections so...

Firstly; I'm not a fan of the phrase "messed with Rob" because like wtf is that? Genuine.

Next I think he/him Nancy comes in stages for them both. There is a history behind he/him lesbianism(which that's a whole truck I'm not here to teach) but I envision that as a stepping stone for Nancy's transition should you want to take little guy that far.(which you don't have to. You don't have to take all parts of a hc. You don't have to take any.)

Furthermore I don't think it "messed" with Robin. I do think it is something big they both consider when traversing further into the relationship, Nancy would have learned to be more of an open book, more transparent, with Robin, about who they are and how they feel.

Yeah, I don’t think Tommy really realized how much the public knew until that interview with Wilbur, either. The public saw and knew (to a certain extent) that something was wrong or “off” about Tommy and his chief’s partnership for a long time, but no one ever tried to step in and ask about it, or tell him that he should leave him and find a new chief, or say anything at all on Tommy’s behalf… Writing that part hurt.

And like the whole thing about the burning, I burned myself because I felt bad and it made me feel better and in control and I found the sensation to be pleasurable and it helped me not kill myself. Canix (nickname I made up) has to be that blurry concept art guy from the Lindalee Rose video. I think we were thrown off by the discarded color schemes because why would a dog be yellow and green, but he looks pretty similar to Sabrina’s design.

Polymouse looks so swaggy in the Lucky Charm sunglasses. I’m obsessed.

Pegabun (nickname I made up) is so cute! I love how her bunny ears are made out of the horse’s little Hermes wings. Kinda bummed that this implies no Alix, but I’m curious what Maribun is gonna do. Go to the future for help and bring back the “new character from the future” who isn’t Alix? Who will it be?

I really wonder what will prompt Ladybug to give Alix the rabbit miraculous when it does happen, though. She’s the “last chance hero”, but if the entire city being on fire while the whole team is getting rocked isn’t enough to warrant her entry, what will? Either things are gonna get a million times worse in season 5, or she’ll get it during some completely normal episode with a villain who is close to her and/or has time powers.

Speaking of the team, will all the heroes show up like in the previous finales, or is this team here all we’re getting? I love the idea of Pigella’s gift exposing Hawkmoth’s long term plan, Luka knowing the identities just has to be relevant at some point, and I just think the finale having every current holder is kind of a climactic expectation at this point.

I finished my post about yin yang pairs days ago, but so much started happening that I didn’t post it because I didn’t want it to get drowned out. Is now a good time? We saw the last four powers, and we’re getting a rabbit/horse unification, which are relevant to my post.

I’m hoping Astruc will serve us his usual twitter posts about what these powers explicitly are, what concepts the miraculous embody, and what the powers’ original names are because sometimes details are missing or something gets lost in translation.

I think the ox and dog powers are pretty cool and useful. The ox would’ve been so helpful against Style Queen. Ever since they started spoiling these heroes, I’ve been trying to get a glimpse of Minotaurox’s tool, and he didn’t even pull it out. From the strike back trailer he looks like he might have a hammer? Maybe also a little anvil or something on his lower back? Idk. I understand nobody using their tools to fight in a soccer episode, but I’m curious to see how they do it.

The goat power is... interesting. Genesis is a cool as hell name, but making any object? Very similar to his akuma power and very similar to Lucky Charm. I’m curious to see what kind of use it’ll have in the future. It’d be useful to keep up the lie and pretend that it’s way more powerful than it actually is, but I don’t expect that kind of continuity, so where does it go from here? I wonder if all his objects have the same color and texture like how all the Lucky Charms do.

The rooster power is stupid busted, like wtf? His power is that he can do anything he wants? The other ridiculously powerful miraculous have some sort of big downside to them, so does he have a secret nerf or power cap? The rabbit is OP, but it’s super dangerous, and its holder has a great potential of messing up and screwing over entire timelines. The peacock is OP, but its power comes with messy moral complications. Is there a “but” with this one? Is there a valid explanation as to why Fu didn’t just pull it out from the jump as opposed to introducing it at the very end of s4?

Edit: I saw someone propose that he lied about his power like Caprikid did. I don’t think that’s likely because they never said he was lying or what his real power was otherwise, so it would confuse the kids at home (and us), but man it’d be hilarious if his actual power was just like. Telekinesis or something and they don’t explain that until a later episode.

I love how not-shocked the kids are at seeing kwamis for the first time. Mylene and Juleka were terrified, but zero damns given here. I’m dying to learn more about them like how we learned about Mullo, Daizzi, and Roarr. I guess we know a bit about Barrk, though, and Ziggy is a lot more talkative than many kwamis.

If these kids don’t have individual development episodes in s5+ I am getting on a plane to France and having a chat with the writers. Marc was actually not too bad. We learned a bit about him, and he’s actually had development since s2! I’m getting the vibe that Penalteam is only the start of Sabrina’s arc, not that she’s supposed to 180 in one ep, so I’ll excuse that for now, especially since the dog has a different holder in the next episodes. I s2g if we don’t get Ivan and Nath development though...

“Ivan is scared to hurt others because he’s so strong”. Guys. If he had his own ep is this what it’d be about? At least explicitly tie it back to Stoneheart. I could write a whole essay about him, his merits, and his potential to be interesting, but he’s constantly overshadowed in the show. I think he’s one of the characters who deserves a miraculous a lot, actually. He’s always ready to protect his friends, even sacrifice himself to save them, he loves and supports his girlfriend no matter what, he protests for the environment, he physically cannot tell a lie, and he does everything he can to make sure his friends feel happy and loved. Go deeper with it. Introduce his home life, bring back his poetry writing, if he’s the secret autistic character, strongly hint at that. Give him his Luisa Madrigal moment or something instead of making him an unoriginal gentle giant.

Nath has been oddly static for the entire show. It’s very interesting that his flaws are so similar to Chloe’s. They both have bad attitudes about things they don’t want to do, and they both hate being on teams. The difference is that Chloe makes it everyone else’s problem while Nath just ditches and gets Marc to lie about it. I could write an essay about them being foils after my hypothetical Ivan is Awesome essay.

I think he’s one of the most confusing characters honestly. Not that he’s inconsistent, but that I never know what he’s thinking or what he wants. He’s failing chemistry, he’s been skipping school since season one, and he’s asocial af. He’s not there in Pixelator when everyone’s working at the hotel, he doesn’t come out of his locker when everyone’s hiding in Zombizou, so he ends up being the only classmate who didn’t sacrifice himself to protect the rest/Ladybug. Even Chloe, who hated the idea, came around and sacrificed herself so Ladybug could win. He’s sleeping in origins. He probably wouldn’t have celebrated his birthday at all if he didn’t get akumatized, and I remember reading a post about how he never goes out unless Alix is there too, implying that she forces him. The only time with spoken lines when we see them being best friends is when Alix helps Nath clean up his biggest mess. He gasps like everyone else in the sneeze scene in Guiltrip, but proceeds to be the only one other than the mean girls to not do anything. He doesn’t trust people and gets paranoid that they’re his enemies.

Another thing is that being good at art is constantly used as his one single merit. What makes his villain form powerful? Good at art. What makes his hero form powerful? Good at art. Why does Marc start to like him in the first place? Good at art. What does he have in common with Marinette? Art. What does he do with Alix? Art. Is he caring, or trustworthy, or resourceful, or- Idk. But he can draw a picture real good.

I could keep going, but I think you guys get the point. I’ve already taken up too much space on this post about this. And this hasn’t changed too significantly over the course of the whole show. When are they going to address it? Is he okay? Is he just a massive doomer? Most characters with negative traits in s1 have had a lot of development since then like Kim’s bully arc or Mylene’s phobias, so I think it’s interesting that he’s still the same, especially since he’s self-aware. I’d love to see a @gentil-minou post about him.

Quilin had terrible animation but it was very nicely written. It was just a simple episode that had little to do with the main plot, but had an important message and some good character moments. We learned more about Sabine in Quilin than we learned about a lot of characters in their own development episodes. I’m glad we finally got the Adrien’s-Pajamas-level lore of what’s behind the door in Marinette’s kitchen/living room. Sabine is so good. I love how she knows exactly what Marinette is going to do at all times. It makes me surprised that she hasn’t figured out that her daughter is LB yet.

I hope Strike Back airs or gets leaked within the next two weeks. I also hope we start hearing info about the premiers of season 5. We know there are some completed dubs and supposedly the first five or six eps are finished in order, which is good. I don’t think the hiatus will be too long. I predict that it’ll probably be Gabriel Agreste -> Kuro Neko length if not shorter honestly. Cant wait!

For The Love of a Father (Idea)

AYO it me! this was inspired by an idea by @1rosebyanyothername in the MGI server. (i copied this directly from the server so rip my punctuation)

“What if somehow Thomas Wayne managed to live but lost his memory, so he moved to Paris, taking on the name Thomas Dupain?

What if he then married Sabine Cheng, and then eventually had Marinette?

So Bruce would be Marinette’s half brother, around 8 years older than her.”

So this is what I came up with as a part of brainstorming for it. (again not a fic but an idea that i should not be allowed to have)

Okay so imagine they, Thomas and Martha, were pronounced dead on scene but when they get to the coroner's office Thomas wakes up but since this has already made big public scandal the coroner tries to be discrete and ships his unconscious body off to like Strange or someone who then confirms the memory loss or gasp does it himself and ships him off to who knows where cuz the underbelly of Gotham has plans and a living Wayne ruins that but he didnt kill him cuz the Wayne foundation funded Blackgate and Arkham so out of mercy he doesnt kill him but ships him off to Italy in the care of one (1) ☝ Gina Dupain who was all new son and rolled tf with it

now he is being careened off to Paris cuz his 'father' Roland lives there but since Thomas was already a grown man at this point he just tries to live on his own and this is where he meets Sabine and they have a lovely daughter named Marinette Martha Dupain-Cheng

he doesnt know why he chose Martha but the name comes with an intense feeling of love so of course he would name his first daughter after that name

now either this is set in like fox series Gotham where we have young pre!batman Bruce or whenever but if you choose that route then maybe immediately after the series during his sabbatical he finds himself in Paris and would you look at that his dad his sweeping floors while a girl no older than 6 is calling him papa and Bruce just fucking breaks and he doesnt know what to do cuz he thought this man was dead but no he has a new family a new wife a new kid and Bruce has spent all this time grieving this man so he walks in trying to figure out wtf is going on but then Thomas looks up at this now 18??? yr old Bruce and there's a pleasant smile and 'welcome to Tom and Sabines how can i help you' and no recognition and Bruce then realises he has truly lost his father and now when he becomes batman its not with the grief of losing his parents but with the pain of losing his father twice

so then fast forward and cue to 13 yr old Marinette and being ladybug and wonder woman tells the league of a problem in Paris and Bruce just like freezes cuz wtf and internally he's spiralling cuz he never recovered from his discovery of his father's new simple life but the mission comes first and the grieving 12 yr old inside has to take a backseat for now so he sends someone (maybe midnighter but idk much bout him so someone else like wonder woman) to find out more and get in contact with those dealing with the situation so they schedule a meeting with ladybug and chat noir and Bruce nearly swallows his tongue cuz he doesnt give a f bout magic and magic cant hide those eyes cuz he sees them every morning in the mirror the same shade of blue (idk if it was Thomas or Martha that had blue eyes and i dont think canon knows either) and Bruce just knows this is his father's daughter his sister and she's caught in the same life as he but not because she condemned herself to this life but cuz some ras al ghul wannabe forced her and now he's seeing red but he cant lose his cool cuz batman doesnt lose his cool

so they work together but this little girl no taller than his ribs is hesitant and cautious and she's cracking under the pressure cuz her partner has other responsibilities and she has to pick up the slack and she doesnt know what to do and now Bruce is this close to revealing himself to her and explaining everything so that she has a bigger shoulder to lean on but he cant cuz hawkmoth and magic and secret identities and its a whole mess

NOW we cut to when Mari is like 16 and theyre closing in on hawkmoth but he cant focus too much on that cuz 38 yr old Bruce just picked up a child and holy shit how does one parent and his sister?? can he even call her that?? is handling the situation so he takes a bigger backseat on Paris and focuses more on cleaning up Gotham and training/raising robin

and now things are kinda mellowing out and everyone falls into their new routines and roles in life Bruce almost forgets that his dad is not dead and during an investigation he finds out that Hugo Strange was responsible for shipping his father off like cheap export and now he's torn because he knows Strange can undo it,,, the bastards done worse and more complicated shit over the years undoing memory loss that he caused should be piece of cake but he doesnt want to take away a father from his child cuz Bruce knows how that can absolutely ruin someone and he's grown fond of his sister even if the relationship is severely one-sided she's family and Bruce couldnt do that to family but ,,,, but he misses his father he loves Alfred truly but nothing replace the Thomas and Martha shape gape in his heart so he does nothing

NOW he does however want to bridge the gap between himself and Marinette cuz he wants to know his father's new family even if the thought of his father loving someone other than his mother and calling someone else his child makes him viscerally ill he is nothing if not addicted to self-inflicted punishment after all

so he invites her whole class over to metropolis as some scholarship trip (he'll be damned if he brings his tiny sister to gotham of all places) and tries to get to know her there but he cant do so under much professional settings so he lets it slip casually in a presentation about his parents and includes a picture of his parents and he sees the looks the girl’s classmates throw around cuz they know that man as her father not his but no one can deny the resemblance so after the presentation she discretely goes off to talk with him in private but everyone sees them and knows whats happening so there is no time for pretense but they go into a back room and they talk and talk and talk and cry a little bit maybe a lot and they make promises to get to know each other

Okay, sure. Let's say we can forgive the whole Wanguk thing. Things happened before Jenny left the cargo container. But can you explain what SJ's little office tantrum was for then? What about his 5 ep flashback? Okay, let's say the whole beating up and almost crippling a bunch of teenagers is his attempt to maintain his cover cause you know, he's still hoping his little jig to infiltrate Taesan's ranks hadn't completely collapsed just yet. What was he being so dramatic in his office for? Did Jenny install security cameras in SJ's control room to monitor him like a lab rat? Doubt it. You know the whole bad-guy-actually-sweet-guy worked for Taehoon's case cause meowmeow had a build up. I don't know why Peetee's so keen on recycling ideas that he sold before. The only thing it does is make the entire meal bland and over chewed.

Okay but which DC future? Its omniversal future? Its hypertime future? Its multiversal future? Its Elseworlds future? Its dark multiverse future? Mwahahaha your threat is useless because the sheer wtf of DC's continuities, timelines and conflicting declarations of what to even call their multiomnihyperverse makes it impossible to target simply A future! DC's overly unnecessarily complicated nature renders it functionally immortal and impossible to ever truly destroy, take that Darkseid.

I mean. But anyway. Whatevs:

1) I honestly do prefer the idea of Jason someday fully reuniting/reintigrating into the Batfam as a whole, because fuck it, the found family I'm here for is the one where they actually act like a family....I just think it takes actual work to get to that point and I get irey when people are like we're here! We found it! And its like meanwhile, abusive dynamics still abound. Mmm. No thank you. But even though I've been on a huge Jason and Dick and Cass kick for like, forever, I do still aim for him having a dynamic of his own with the rest of the family.

Like the thing is, I hate playing the favorites card in families, and I think the emphasis on so and so being Bruce's favorite child or so and so being this kid's favorite sibling, etc, like it really does feel like to the detriment of the whole family, because once you start validating the idea of favorites, ESPECIALLY in a found family that is CONTINUOUSLY growing....I think you're kinda shooting yourself in the foot because you're kinda creating a situation where either no future new additions to the family can EVER be Bruce or one of the kids' 'favorite' or else you're innately positing that said fave status is conditional and even a current fave of Bruce or a sibling can be bumped down the ladder by the addition of a later arrival....

Which is LITERALLY the entire essence of the eternal conflict between Dick and Damian and Tim fans. Its not even that Damian is Dick's favorite, allegedly, its that prior to Damian's very EXISTENCE, fans felt comfortable declaring Tim unilaterally to be Dick's 'favorite'.....and then all it took was the addition of a single family member who had specific NEEDS in regards to Dick's attention and focus, largely because of his age and needing a legal guardian while Tim was old enough to literally jet set around the world on his own.....and like, everything went up in flames in large corners of fandom.

So I'm just like, death to the fave family member myth, its just incredibly counter productive to the idea of found family as a whole especially when it usually only exists to prop up a preferred character as better than others via the proof of see, these other characters say he's their fave or whatever...but also like, its not even necessary?

Because the thing is, you can have Jason reintegrated into the whole family overall, and still prioritize your personal narrative FOCUS on characters you like more than others, like say Dick and Cass.....because of course its natural for even people in the same family to have entirely different DYNAMICS with different family members....and these dynamics don't have to come with a ranking system in order to prioritize which ones you just focus on more in a story. Because its not necessarily that Dick has to be Jason's fave brother, y'know, just for Jason to prefer spending time with Dick simply because he's more comfortable with him due to knowing him longer or being more secure in the idea that Dick doesn't judge him based on their greater shared history.

This doesn't mean that Jason doesn't care for his other siblings, that he can't have strong dynamics with them as well, its just about finding a reason for why these two specifically might be in a story without the others that doesn't demand putting a definitive ranking on which one Jason considers his FAVE. Just like Damian doesn't have to be Dick's FAVE just for them to have the super close canon relationship they have, even relative to the other siblings, because there's everything needed in canon already to establish that the mere fact of Dick essentially RAISING Damian for a year, and being the first one in the family to really take a chance on Damian, like, this lends itself naturally to them maybe more naturally gravitating towards each other than other siblings due to comfort level and familiarity, etc, but it doesn't have to be like....oh but yeah, I just like Damian more than you, Tim, y'know?

So my answer on this one is a total cop out of both, both is good. Jason totally reintegrated back into the family, but with dynamics that still lend themselves fairly easily towards story lineups where its just him running missions with Dick or Duke or any other one or two specific family members even if for no other reason than they gel together best in the field, y'know?

2) Hmm. I honestly really do love and miss 90s Tim Drake and just....don't see him in a lot of what I read these days. I'm like no, why did he have to go, he was doing so well! BUT I'm also on a big accountability kick, and like, I'm so steeped in fics where Dick GROVELS for forgiveness for every little slight he's ever done real or imagined, with every character but Tim in particular, so its like.....I'm not gonna lie, I really have a preference these days for seeing stuff where its literally anyone actually owning up to shit they've done to Dick and apologizing or groveling or making it to HIM, like, completely unconditionally. In the same manner we usually see Dick apologizing, glossing over any reasons he might have had for doing what he did or feeling the way he did, and saying oh it doesn't matter, putting the entirety of his focus on what HE did and why it was wrong no matter what and he's sorry.....that's what I would kill to see from more fics, just in reverse.

Because so often even in the all too rare fics where we DO see other characters apologizing to Dick for shit, its watered down with Dick volunteering that oh he messed up too, it was a two way street, and its like no! This is Pettiness Hours! I want the unconditional apologies! Give me the groveling! From anyone, I don't care at this point, lol, just show me characters actually PUTTING IN THE WORK to make it up to Dick for harm they've caused him, even if completely unintentionally or via neglecting his feelings or considering the repercussions their actions or words would have on him. Aaaaaaand, frankly, Tim's a good place to start there, because of how one sided all the takes on their conflicts have been for so many years. I mean, if people need a place to start, Batman and Robin Eternal gets enough praise it can't be pretended that people in fandom don't know that story exists, so how about some stories where Tim says he's fucking sorry for punching Dick in issue #4 or #5 of that one, and it was uncalled for and he was clearly just looking for an excuse to unleash some more of his resentment and upset for the Spyral/Forever Evil stuff, and family deciding that its totally okay to punch Dick whenever they're mad at him and need to work off some aggression so they can then finally forgive him (for now) is a trend that needs to die in a fire post-haste? I mean just as an example.

But the thing that kills me about fanfic trends is like....the sameness of so much of it. There's SO much room for variety and diverse takes, and like....I don't actually hate Tim! I'm just cranky because of the imbalanced nature of most content out there for literal years at this point. Push the pendulum BACK in the other direction, create some balance by showing the flip side of things.....and that leaves a lot more room for me and others of like minds to then be more amenable to - and even interested in - other stories that don't scratch this particular itch, but don't need to, because other stories are doing the scratching by then, y'know?

And THEN like, at that point, I would be ALL FOR more stories that are just callbacks to classic 90s Tim who I adore, with his skateboarding and his EARNESTNESS and his go-get-em spirit and also the gumption. All the gumption. I like that Tim. I do miss that Tim. But like, for the moment, like, I want accountable Tim because I am tiiiiiiiired of groveling Dick and tbh at this point its not enough for me to just see people move past putting Dick in that position and just have mutually respective and doting brothers Dick and Tim having adventures together......nah, first I want some reciprocation. Ngl. Gimme the apologies for actual mistakes actually made.

3) DickKyle. Easy question, c'mon, you gotta know that. LOL. ;)

But yeah, I've been shipping these two off their like, two shared pages from way back in the Obsidian Age story years before Jason even returned, let alone was in Countdown together with Kyle, so like, its no contest. I don't mind JayKyle, I certainly prefer it to JayRoy tbh, but there's not a ton of appeal in it for me, particularly in how its usually depicted, because like....the entire basis of JayKyle is that they DO have stories together and spent a whole year worth of weekly issues traveling the multiverse together in Countdown.....but there's like, practically no trace of their actual dynamics from that series or any specifics of literally any issue from that entire comic in most fics I’ve read, so its like.....idk, it tends to come across as more generic, not in the sense that it cant still be interesting, but more in the sense that it feels like just someone paired with Jason just because history between them EXISTS without any interest in exploring what that history actually IS....and at that point, its like, well there's no reason TO prioritize that ship over DickKyle for me personally, when like, I have a shit ton of headcanon reasons for why those two in a pairing specifically. *Shrugs* My logic. Its not for everyone, but it works for me.

4) Jason with a sword or Damian with a sword? I don't understand the question. Both. Both is good. All the characters should have swords. Swords are awesome.

5) Chris Kent vs Jon Kent - oof. I adore Jon, I really do. I love his dynamic with Damian, I love a lot of their specific stories, the parallels between them as friends and Bruce and Clark as friends....its all very bien. But I gotta give this one to Chris, because I'm always gonna have a soft spot for him because I'm a sucker for all abused kid heroes, and I just miss that funky little dude so much. There's so many stories we didn't get with him and were just ripe for the picking, but nooooo, DC's like lol you can't have nice things, here we just rebooted the entire multiverse and now Clark and Lois never adopted the son of Clark's worst Kryptonian rival and raised him with tender love and care awww does that make you sad, were you invested in him, WELL TOO BAD, HE'S GONE NOW AND BASICALLY NEVER EXISTED, NOW GIVE US YOUR MONEY ANYWAY MWAHAHAHAHAH.

I think it’s complicated. And I’m well known for being a Voight defender, but yeah it’s tough. Im gonna try break it down from both sides, with my caveat that it’s 4.15am, im exhausted, and the pain levels are bouncing back up.

I think Voight walked into that warehouse for Walton intending to bring him in. I really do. But the moment Walton mentioned Makayla, that was it. The gloves were off. Voight’s lost two children (technically three if you count Erin as she’s not dead), his wife and his grandchild. Makayla’s an innocent who had already lost everything and was building it back up.

I think from then he was going to kill Walton, but he would be alone and able to dispose of the body himself. Hailey arriving in messed up his plans. But with the injuries he’d given Walton there was no way for them to bring him in without Walton walking. The man who’d abducted and nearly killed a cop just walking away? Unacceptable.

I’ve said it from the start and I’ll say it again cause I’ve gotten some anons I haven’t published saying I think Voight is innocent. He’s not. He manipulated Hailey into shooting. That’s a fact, end of story.

But I think he honestly thought keeping Hailey in the dark was a good thing. I think he thought not telling her meant that if they were caught he’d take the fall, and pretend she was never there. People have told me I’m wrong, but the way he said “she saved my life”? Look, we can talk shit about how Voight isn’t a good human all day long, but there are two things about him. He’s not deliberately abusive to people (I will fight you on this, I’ve had conversations with other abuse survivors about it), and he does what he believes. He covered for Haileys shot. He did everything to destroy evidence so she wouldn’t get caught.

But Hailey doesn’t know this. She’s in the dark because Voight thinks it’s helpful, but she’s a planner. She needs to know all the possibilities. It’s part of what makes her a good cop.

And with this my brain is like no more so look I might add to this after sleep and clinic and more antibiotics and painkillers. But yeah. TLDR what I was going to say about Hailey is she’s not just trying to keep her job. She’s trying to confirm she’s not her father. She’s not a person who is cruel for fun. And she’s not, but this guilt, this secret? It’s killing her. I’ll try go into more later.

I would have mixed feelings about him being with both gwyn and Elaine. I love the idea of Elaine being azriels sunshine he deserves light in his life (also their scene in ACOSF had me ejdjbdksks) but also all three bat boys being with all 3 sisters rubs me the wrong way idk.

Gwyn is amazing because she's a badass bitch and if azriel doesn't snatch that up I will. I feel like azriel almost gets bulldozed over by the other bat boys (like he will do the dirty work only because he feels inferior) And I want gwyn to help him stand up for himself.

Gwyn is an adult jfc. I'd be more worried about her trauma.

But at the same time I would totally understand if Elaine couldn't forgive him for his involvement in the cauldron business. That shit was wack. I just want this relationship to be the biggest, most "period drama esqe" slowburn.

I have very mixed feelings about lucien. On one hand lucien has never had a home and when tamlin took him in I can see how that loyalty blurred the lines of right and wrong. But at the same time lucien messed up MANY times where the archeon sisters are concerned.

Nesta deserved her kick in the ass because it was needed. She did not deserve everyone to be a little bitch to her. It felt like feyre was the only one who wanted her rehabbed for nestas sake. I definitely would have preferred Nesta to hit rock bottom and choose recovery for herself (cause alcoholism and things can only be truly solved through self help) Everyone else was uncharacteristically nonempathetic. Idk how Cassian could be okay with her treatment after they mated.

I'm still digesting Rhys and nestas relationship. I like that they don't like each other for most of ACOSF. Nestas reasons for treating feyre poorly are valid, but not excuses. The feyre, Nesta, and rhys relationship thing is weird cause I see all sides. I need more feyre and Nesta bonding they always get interrupted.

I HATE what SJM did to Mors character. What the fuck is up with mor not liking Nesta. Maybe we will get an explanation in the next book but I feel like mor was set up to be a great LGBT character with himbo allies but SJM just dropped her off a cliff. Big mad.

However I do want eris and mor to end up together. Not necessarily romantically, but I want them to have it out and I want eris to support mor. Kinda want them to be mates. Kinda want eris to be gay as well. Kinda want them to get married and them have consorts.

WHY does everyone treat feyre like a porcelain doll when the IC has more collective trauma than anyone else in this universe. Don't get me wrong I'm all about the hurt/comfort but it was so inconsistently written LOL. When the IC was telling their stories the first night they met and then feyre told hers I cackled like sorry but she is a baby

Rhys's trauma is just as recent as feyres... yeah he's a lot older and seasoned but oh my GOD he was consistently assaulted for 49 years. Feyre does very little to comfort him. Idk I feel like it was SO glossed over.

Like in ACOWAR feyre admits that amaranthas hatred wasn't personal it was general, unlike Tamlins hatred. But amarantha and rhys had multiple personal vendettas against each other. Like his amarantha is vaguely feyres tamlin. Rhys didn't even get to kill amarantha. His trauma is untapped. Rhys is the main character feyre is the love interest idc

Mor was justified in being mad.)

But I DO have a fun headcannon that since the bone carver is a death-god or whatever he KNEW nyx wouldn't survive and that is why he appeared as him. Also when the bone carver offered to take feyres first born in exchange for help rather than the oroboughs I think that was also foreshadowing. The only reason nyx survived was because of Nesta and the bone carver had trouble seeing the cauldron.

FREAKING HEADCANNON: the archeon sisters are partially fae. Their mom was definitely a descendant and that's why all three sisters have mates. It was hinted that the sisters had mated because they were powerful and cauldron made but Cassian and rhys could feel the pull before the sisters were turned.

I wanted to ask if maybe you have some opinions on the book fragment that always confuses me - when Satan is about to appear, Aziraphale and Crowley have this exchange: "What a day that was, and no mistake. Good old days." "Not really," said Crowley. The noise was growing. "People knew the difference between right and wrong in those days," said Aziraphale dreamily. "Well, yes. Think about it." "Ah. Yes. Too much messin' about?" "Yes." What do you think they’re referring to? (1/2)

I’ve always read that as Aziraphale feeling nostalgic about the “simpler“ times and Crowley remarking how he and Aziraphale had a hand in making being human harder by all their “messing about“. But isn’t Azraphale kinda referring to the original sin? Which would make Crowley seem like he’s rethinking if he did the bad thing after all? And why does Crowley say "Not really“ in the first place? Idk I just can’t make up my mind so I’d love to hear your opinion bc this fragment has me lost. Hm. First of all, I think it’s worth mentionning that the whole scene on the airfield was… a bit confusing to me, especially when it came to understanding where everyone was and what they were doing and when. Maybe it’s a professionnal deformation from being a storyboard artist, but when I can’t visualize correctly how things go my brain kinda gets blocked and doesn’t treat informations well. So I was very eager to see how that scene was going to be done in the TV series because in retrospect it helped me make more sense of the scene in the book. But I’m still confused a bit.

So, with that in mind, this is a part of the book that left me with the same interrogations but I didn’t dwell too much on it.

I think the part before that actual bit quoted by the anon is interesting to take into account, because it’s the point where Crowley and Aziraphale take responsibility for all the effects they had on humanity by finally stepping up and protecting them. Before that, it was always the excuse “we’re just doing our jobs”. With them accepting to fight for humanity, on behalf of what they’ve done and on behalf of humanity, they claim that they actually belong to humanity and Earth more than they belong to Heaven, Hell, or any other arbitrary demarcation between mortals and immortals. (And one interesting thing is that Aziraphale compares his and Crowley’s actions to those of other people - humans - who were also just doing their jobs. There is no difference between demons, angels, and humans. )

They chose their side.

And once they have chosen their side, Aziraphale picks his weapon, the one he first gave to humanity (so it comes full circle, which is narratively and symbolicly pretty neat) and that’s when they talk about “what a day that was, good old days.” “Not really.” “Too much messin about?” “Yes.” I think … it wouldn’t surprise me if there was voluntarily enough vagueness in these sentences to be interpreted in different ways. 

What day is Aziraphale referring to? The day he gave his sword to Adam and Eve. The day they got kicked out of Eden. The day they might have eaten the apple and learned the difference between good and bad. The day his relationship with Crowley possibly started. The day he did one genuinely altruistic thing out of instinct, but also the day Crowley told him that maybe it was the bad thing to do. The day nothing could ever be entirely black or entirely white anymore. 

Could this be more about himself that Aziraphale is talking about, about him and Crowley, or about humanity in general? Ultimately, it doesn’t matter, because as I said earlier: they are all the same.

Is the nostalgia about before everything became grey, or before they knew what humanity was capable of, or before they started meddling … I don’t know. Maybe it’s not that clear in Aziraphale’s mind either. 

When Aziraphale says “good old days”, I can’t really say what exactly he’s referring to. But when Crowley replies “not really”, the way I see it, he is telling Aziraphale “things have always been this complicated, you just weren’t able to see it back then”. 

The following part puzzles me a little, because I think GO makes it exceedingly clear that, first temptation aside, humanity would have grown to be exactly the same without Crowley and Aziraphale’s influence. Maybe they punctually brought more good / evil around them, in limited areas every now and then, but their influence was very limited. And it keeps being pointed out that the best and the worst things, humans do entirely on their own, and often one single human can do both terrible and very good things. Humanity is only shades of grey.

It’s hard for me to conceptualize that because Adam and Eve were the first ones to be handled the knowledge of wrong and right (wtf are ethics anyway, they keep changing through time and space, that doesn’t mean anything to begin with) they necessarily saw what was the line between good and evil. Why should it be clear to them and not to their descendants? Why should humanity’s ethics degrade over time (I mean, there seems to be a point of reference that is more or less catholicism, so that is extraordinarily up to debate in itself) ??? It doesn’t make sense to me. Maybe that’s just my atheist ass preventing me from getting a religious understanding, but I give up on that particular bit of dialogue.

The only thing I can make out of it is, as I said, that this is about Crowley and Aziraphale taking responsibility for the consequences of 6000 years spent with humanity and interacting with them.
