January 2019

Y/n and Charles waited for the results. While she was calm, Charles couldn’t contain his excitement. He immediately started picturing them as a family. Him, Y/n and their new baby.

“Okay, do you want to look first or how do you want to do this?” Y/n asked as the timer on her phone went off.

“I want to look together if that’s okay with you.” Charles say next to her on their shared bed. Y/n nodded and flipped the pregnancy test over. She gasped when she saw the words Pregnant’ on the small screen. “We’re going to be parents. Holy shit!” Charles yelled as he immediately hugged the mother of his child and started kissing her face all over.

“Wait, what if our child decides to be born on a race day?” Y/n asked once Charles stopped his kisses.

“I won’t race, simple. I’m going to be there in the hospital with you. You’re crazy if you think I’m going to miss our child’s birth.”

Thank god that didn’t happen.

September 2019

Charles had won in Monza. Y/n wasn’t in attendance since she was days past her due date so she stayed in Monaco with Pascale. They watched the Grand Prix on the tv. Charles even blew a kiss to the camera for his family back home.

Y/n’s doctor had told her the due date was September third, but Baby Leclerc was being stubborn. Yeah, they kept the gender a secret until the birth so everyone referred to their child as baby leclerc. Arthur was the first one to call the baby that name. With the Singapore Grand Prix happening in less than two weeks, Charles was getting nervous.

“Okay, baby leclerc, you have to come out soon.” Charles said to Y/n’s large stomach. He took the opportunity to fly back to Monaco to be with Y/n in case the baby decided to be born.

“They loves hearing your voice. Maybe they’ll listen to their father and come out tonight.” Y/n teased. It was like the baby was listening to her because the next thing she knew, she was in a hospital bed with Charles in a chair beside her.

He had texted all his family members many updates every five minutes. Everyone could tell he was ready and excited to be a dad.

“I’m going insane, Charles, I just want the baby out already.”

A painful and long labor was what it took for baby leclerc to come out. A girl was what the doctor announced to the couple. Charles cut the umbilical cord. He watched as several nurses took the baby girl and placed her on Y/n’s chest. He walked over to his two girls and watched in awe.

“She’s here, she’s actually here.” Charles kissed Y/n’s forehead. “You did so good, mon amour.”

“I think she wants her daddy to hold her.” Y/n smiled even though all she wanted was to rest. She didn’t want to miss the loving moment when Charles finally held his daughter.

“She’s so little. My little girl.” Charles carefully took the baby into his arms. Charles had always heard how first time parents are afraid of holding babies because they think they’re going to drop the baby. But not him, he would never. He held her safely in his arms, smiling down at her. “Hi, baby. I’m your papa.”

Y/n never understood how some adults could look at a baby and say ‘she looks like her father/mother’. It never made sense to her because the baby was just born, how could they find the resemblance? Now she completely understood what they meant. Their daughter looked exactly like Charles. Their nose shape, the mouth, it was all him.

After getting the baby all cleaned, weighed and measured, Charles couldn’t wait to hold his daughter again. The nurse handed the baby girl back to him and congratulated the couple.

“Do you have a name for her?” The nurse asked.

“I have a name, but I wasn’t sure if you’d like it.” He shyly said as he turned his attention to Y/n.

“What is it?”

“Ruby. Like your birthstone.” Charles said.

“Ruby. I love it. Ruby . . . Jules. Ruby Jules.” Y/n confirmed to the nurse.

“I like the name Louise too. Ruby Jules Louise Leclerc.” Charles added. The nurse nodded and excused herself. “Ruby Jules.” He said once more. He loved how it sounded.

“I know you wanted to make at least one of our kids after Jules.” Y/n kissed Charles’ cheek.

“We’re going to have more?” Charles chuckled. “With you I’ll have all the babies you want. We can give Ruby Jules all the siblings.”

“Some, not all. You try popping out a kid.”

OBEY ME ZODIAC SIGNS

I mentioned in this post that I had opinions about this & @impish-ivy left a tag saying she’d like to know my thoughts on it. And as we all know, a single tag is all it takes! So here I am!

Lemme start by giving you my qualifications… I have none. Unless you count growing up with a hippie for a mom who was really into the zodiac & astrology so I spent all my life hearing about it. And I mean she’d read books to me on the topic. She also taught me quite a bit about the tarot and I could get into some symbolism there, too, but let's save that for a different post. (Not me assigning each character a card from the Major Arcana.)

Nowadays I mostly use it to help me remember the birthdays I choose for my OCs lol. It's fun to think about for character creation. But in the end, this is all just my opinion based on what I know of the zodiac! It's all just for fun~

For quick reference, I am going to list the zodiac signs, their symbols, their associated element, and their date ranges.

Please Note: I do take the cusp into consideration. When someone is born on the cusp, it means they were born on a day that is on the cusp of two signs. For example, someone born on April 19 would be considered on the cusp of Aries and Taurus. This means they can have some traits of the sign they're on the cusp of. I think of it as a date range. So in the above example, I would consider April 17 - April 22 the cusp range of Aries and Taurus. The Aries traits would be stronger on the Aries side and the Taurus traits are strong on the Taurus side. I will sometimes refer to this as being a "cuspie" because lol it's cute, right?

Okay let’s get into it because I can tell they did not consider the characters' astrological signs at all when they chose their birthdays.

LUCIFER: JUNE 6 - GEMINI

Now obviously his birthday was meant to be a reference to 666. Since it's 6/6 and all. But that cute little reference also makes him a Gemini. A GEMINI. (Hi hello, actual Gemini here, there is just no way.) Gemini is an air sign that's known for being good at communication, artistic, flighty, and easily bored. Does any of that sound like Lucifer to you? There is no way a Gemini would ever be caught dead at a factory tour, okay? (I would, but I'm also a cuspie so I got just enough Taurus in me to be interested in a factory tour lol.)

I say he should have been a Cancer. Now before you come at me and say what Lucifer as a weepy Cancer you can't be serious, don't you mean he should've been a prideful Leo? No. Because Leos also like being the center of attention. If Lucifer was a Leo, he would absolutely thrive on Diavolo's constant compliments. Lucifer is a crab and we all know it! Hard exterior, putting on that prideful and competent persona, but soft and squishy inside. Only weepy in private, but secretly longs to weep. LOL. Also? Intense mood swings because of overwhelming feelings. And also also? Family obsessed. Will kill for those they love.

MAMMON: SEPTEMBER 10 - VIRGO

As hilarious as it is to consider that Mammon is the Virgin, there is no way. Mammon as an earth sign at all is silly enough, but add in the fact that Virgos are practical and perfectionists and I'm just like… not this guy lol. I think Virgos can also be a bit shy at first too. And like you could say Mammon acts like he doesn't like you at first because he's secretly shy, but I think it's more about damaging his cool guy rep.

No, I think Mammon should've been a Gemini. Flighty air sign. Easily bored. But with a wild imagination that can come up with, you guessed it, schemes. In his case money making schemes. They also like to be aware of the trends, always looking at the new shiny things. Geminis are smart, but not always good at applying their smarts. The other thing about Geminis? They're deeply emotionally intelligent, but you can't always tell right away. This is why they're kinda known for the whole "two faced" thing (which is not really accurate tbh). They have a light and airy and fun personality on top, but underneath they can be serious and understand the needs of others. And once you befriend them, they are ride or die.

LEVIATHAN: APRIL 9 - ARIES

Absolutely not. An Aries is a bold fire sign, they're courageous, assertive, and a natural leader. That is like the exact opposite of Levi.

I honestly had a difficult time deciding what I think Levi's sign should be. But in the end, I settled on Virgo. Mostly because Virgos can be neurotic and end up worrying themselves into disorder and that sounds more like Levi than anything else. I also think the practicality and perfection can apply when considering how carefully Levi pursues his hobbies. He's always on top of when things are happening, displays his merch meticulously, and cares about all the little details.

SATAN: OCTOBER 20 - LIBRA

Uhhh sooooo I mean…. listen, the main thing about Libras, in my opinion, is that they are super friendly. They like having a large group of friends. And like Satan has connections, but I'm not sure if that's really the same thing. He's been known to isolate himself for days just to read without stopping. Like that does not seem like the social butterfly type to me. He's also a cuspie, so there could be elements of Scorpio mucking up those Libra sensibilities. But I still don't really think that makes a lot of sense.

I'm kinda feeling Capricorn for Satan. Someone who cares about rules and regulations. Someone who's willing to help family and friends at the drop of a hat. Ambitious and successful and willing to put in the work, including in relationships. Even better if you give him December 23 or 24, so he's juuuuust on the cusp of Sagittarius. Thus giving him the Sag's pursuit of knowledge quality and a lil dash of childlike wonder ('cause of how he is with cats lol).

ASMODEUS: MAY 16 - TAURUS

Truly an affront to all things astrological. Do you really expect me to believe that Asmo is a Bull? Please. Like yeah, a Taurus can be passionate, but they're also stubborn and stable and kiiinda set in their ways. And yo that ain't Asmo, friends.

Asmo should've been a Leo. The type of person who turns heads just by existing. They're unapologetically themselves and they know how enticing they are to others. A bright, bold, fire sign that'll blaze into a room, full of confidence and ready to start the party. Can be a little too into themselves, but they're also full of generosity and a warmth that attracts people. I would also have been okay with Libra, but I think Leo is more accurate.

BEELZEBUB & BELPHEGOR: MARCH 11 - PISCES

This one fits. Beel really is a Pisces. Emotional, caring, highly family oriented. Maybe a little weepy. Pisces is a good choice for the twins. Not only do you have the dual fish as their symbol, but I think Belphie is what you get when a sweet Pisces suffers from intense trauma. Zodiac signs only really take into consideration general characteristics. People change how they act from life experience, too, and no amount of being born under the fish is going to change that for Belphie. Inside, he's got that caring and emotional state that Beel wears on his sleeve. Belphie just had to build armor around it because that's how he has reacted to being hurt. So I actually think this sign works for both of them.

DIAVOLO: OCTOBER 31 - SCORPIO

Well, he's got the passion anyway. I dunno I feel like Scorpios are also overly dramatic, tend to hold grudges, and kinda do whatever they want. Like they give in to their emotions a lot. Diavolo just doesn't feel like a Scorpio to me. Maybe if he was a little more devious than he is.

I think Diavolo should have been an Aries. The fire symbolism is nice and the fact that it's a ram is also funny (MC being a sheep right), but straight up an Aries is a good leader, they're courageous and adventurous. They love new experiences, kinda like Dia being obsessed with human world stuff he's never experienced before. They rush into things sometimes - anyone remember a baby!Dia trapping Barbatos? This is like he gets an idea in his head and he's like that's the best solution! But it isn't always and I kinda think Barb's influence has mellowed that out over the years. So yeah, Aries for this guy. Though I would have accepted Leo, too, I just don't think Diavolo is as self-obsessed as a Leo usually is.

BARBATOS: AUGUST 22 - LEO

You know, in true CC fashion, I really spent a lot of time considering what would make the most sense for Barbatos. My initial reaction to him being a Leo was no fucking way. Leos like attention too much and we all know Barb is a lurker. However, he's also on the cusp with Virgo. And I kinda think that Virgo's practicality mixed with Leo's charisma could equal out to one Barbatos. Virgos are known for being proficient and efficient and always getting the job done right. They're also known for wanting to be of service to others. Leos, on the other hand, are magnetic and generous. However, they're also really flashy and tend to be hung up on what others think of them and that's not Barb at all.

So while I think the Virgo/Leo cusp could work, they'd need to put him on the other side of it. More Virgo less Leo. Like maybe August 25. That being said, I also initially gave Barb the sign of Capricorn. If I wasn't going with a cusp situation, this is what I'd choose. It's the restraint and meticulousness. Capricorns can be taskmasters, especially when it comes to themselves. In a human this leads to burnout. Since Barbatos is a demon he seems to be able to work hard all day every day and still be okay, but he's not exactly good at resting. A Capricorn is also someone other people come to for advice because they're known for being good at everything they do.

SIMEON: FEBRUARY 10 - AQUARIUS

Aquarius is a weird sign. Like no offense to Aquarians but the symbol here is literally called the Water Bearer and yet it's an air sign? What does it mean? It means that this sign is full of super unique individuals. And yeah okay Simeon is pretty unique. I'm not like there's absolutely no way. But I do think there's a better sign for him.

Should've been a Cancer. Yes, like Lucifer. Think about it: emotional, caring, family oriented, but where Lucifer has the armored crab shell, Simeon has learned to allow some of his soft squishy to show. Both can be very mothering, they just show it in different ways. Trust me on this. HOWEVER. I actually think Simeon should have been a cuspie. Like me, but on the other side. So on the cusp of Cancer and Gemini. Mostly mothering and emotional Cancer, but with the creativity and airiness of Gemini. You know what Geminis are good at? Writing. So I think Simeon has traits from both Cancer and Gemini and would be best on the cusp. (Give him June 21.)

SOLOMON: DECEMBER 9 - SAGITTARIUS

They got this one right. Solomon is absolutely a Sagittarius. The symbol of this sign is the Archer - a centaur with an extended bow. It represents the duality of a Sagittarian's personality. An old soul with childlike wonder. Able to get excited about new things, but also full of experience and wisdom. If that's not Solomon, I don't know what is. Someone who likes to be free, enjoys exploring the unknown, is dedicated to learning but also to teaching - yeah, this one is accurate.

LUKE: JULY 15 - CANCER

Due to the fact that Luke is supposed to be a child, it's important to consider how his sign manifests in someone younger. It can be different from how an adult would be described, but the general idea is usually still the same. I kinda think Luke could in fact be a Cancer. He cares a lot about his friends and family, he's dedicated to them in a way that causes him to defend them at any perceived insult. He can be emotional, but that's also kinda just… he's a kid, you know?

And I think Luke is a Libra. He cares about everybody as mentioned, but he also likes when people get along. If we looked at who he is when he's not worrying about a demon's questionable influence, such as how he is with MC, he's thoughtful and kind, friendly. See how he is with Barbatos and Simeon. He likes learning from them and spending time with them and I think that's the sort of social butterfly Libra quality. I see Luke growing up into someone who has a lot of friends, but also likes to keep things balanced as evidenced by the Libra scales.

MEPHISTOPHELES: NOVEMBER 11 - SCORPIO

It's kinda funny that Mephisto and Diavolo have the same zodiac sign. But it also doesn't mean anything, I just find it humorous. However, Mephisto could actually be a Scorpio, more so than Diavolo, in my opinion. We have seen mostly the negative traits of a Scorpio displayed in Mephisto - jealously, the tendency to hold a grudge, possessive and resentful. But a Scorpio can also be passionate and fearless and perceptive. Mephisto has the grudge thing going on with Lucifer. And he's a little closed off to MC at first. But his perception allows him to consider how MC feels and thus makes it easier for him to understand them. Not to mention how dedicated he becomes once he is friends with someone. While I think there are probably other signs that would work for him too, I don't have a problem with him being a Scorpio.

RAPHAEL: SEPTEMBER 29 - LIBRA

What. There is no way. NO. WAY. I refuse to accept Raphael as a Libra, I'm sorry. It's just not possible.

So what is he, then? A Taurus. The Bull. Quiet, stubborn, no nonsense. Patient, well grounded, likes to feel secure, determined. While a human Taurean would be interested in establishing their career, Raphael had a different goal due to being an angel. But I think we can equate the climb to the top, becoming the youngest angel ever to be a seraph, as obtaining financial stability. It's stability, but in a different way. Secured by the rank rather than the monetary value. Only investing time in what they believe is worth the effort, but once decided they become loyal to a fault. Good at standing up for their principles, but less likely to mess with things that threaten their stability. There might be others he could be, but this one feels right to me.

THIRTEEN: JANUARY 13 - CAPRICORN

Seeing as how I made Satan and Barbatos Capricorns, I don't really feel like Thirteen fits this sign all that well. She's not restrained at all and I don't think she's overly ambitious, either. Not a taskmaster for herself or anyone else.

Thirteen is an Aquarius. A rebel, someone who sets trends, someone who doesn't care about rules. Thirteen is a reaper who wears a school uniform that she completely modified because she likes it and she never even had any intention of attending said school. You gonna try to tell me that person isn't a rebel? Unique, quirky, and independent. That is so totally Thirteen. They also tend to fight for the collective good and while I haven't exactly seen Thirteen joining protests or anything, I don't know that I would discount this quality entirely. She's just definitely leaning more toward the quirky unique part as well as innovation (thinking up different traps for instance).

Okay, so I am BACK with Moon Phases. Fun facts that are just trivia but if you or anyone cares, here they are! Moon 2 (April) we see a full moon when Heron sees the kittypet, which means that night specifically was April 22 1701

The Gathering in September would be the 17th.

There was a Lunar Eclipse February 22 1701 (Moon 0) that would've been visible to them.

Ages: Heronstar is 19, Longstrike would be 14, Heronpaw is 8 (obvs).

As for birthdays, starting March 1st seems appropriate for 1) ease 2) it was the half-moon which is normally the healer meeting. This also means something interesting! February that month just missed being a full month by moon cycle, with the previous half moon that follows the full moon being January 31! So off to a wonderful and weird start when it comes to ages.

So, using the half-moon and pretending they both turned exactly 7 Moons old (Heron) and 2 Moons old (Long) for the sake of this.

Longstrike would've been born December 3. If you want to make that his birthday is up to you, I'm not gonna assign your characters a birthday, but he'd be a December baby.

Heronstar would be July 9th! Once again, your comic, your characters, your rules, so if anyone sees this ask, Unless Jade Says So those are not Official Dates. Fun trivia, there was a blue moon that month, on July 30th.

Slickpaw is being assigned half-moon baby as well for the sake of my sanity, which is already questionable at this point. He would be August 26th, which supports his claim to a lack of food, as a month later was the gathering where Howlstar announced that her Clan was starving and would now kill trespassers. [Also instead makes him the month Long and Heron fought after she saw the kittypet at the border]

For Drama, the gathering would've been March 14th, and the April Gathering with be April 12th, for when Howlstar might ask if anyone knows where that apprentice ran to

winx club - age order

okay i just spent an egregious amount of time trying to figure out the age order for the winx + the specialists (+ the trix). so alfea (and i'm assuming cloud tower) are three-year academic institutions. since stella is already established to know the specialists (sky, riven, and brandon specifically), we can assume she met them in their collective first years. & since the specialists seem to graduate at the same time as the winx, that means that red fountain likely has a four year run.

since bloom is canonically 16 at the beginning of the show and stella is a year older than her at 17, that makes sky, riven, and brandon all 17 as well. the rest of the winx (flora, musa, tecna, aisha) would also be 16 (since aisha is 17 at her first appearance in s2). we can also assume timmy is 17 since he's already part of the specialist squad and has likely completed at least one year at red fountain.

now, helia is likely a year older than the specialists + stella because he spends some time dropped out of red fountain but then seamlessly joins the specialist squad in s2 -- which would be the specialists' third year at rf. so, in my mind, after completing two years at rf, helia dropped out and then returned after a year. so it should be his fourth year, but instead he's a third year. this would make helia 18 if he appeared in s1.

when nabu is introduced in s3, we aren't given any information about his schooling or anything that would indicate his age, so i'll just assume he's the same age as the og squad of specialists, which would make him 17 at the beginning of the show.

to reiterate, at the beginning of the show, we have: [stella, sky, riven, brandon, timmy, nabu - 17], [bloom, musa, tecna, flora, aisha - 16], and [helia - 18].

now, just to make it more complicated for myself, i'm going to factor in the canon birthdays. assuming everyone who is the same age is born in the same year (and for easier visualization, i'm going to say their birth years are [2004 - s1 age]), here is the age order:

helia - september 2nd, 1986 nabu - january 30, 1987 timmy - february 15, 1987 sky - march 20, 1987 stella - august 18, 1987 brandon - september 23, 1987 riven - october 15, 1987 musa - may 30, 1988 flora - march 1, 1988 aisha - june 15, 1988 bloom - december 10, 1988 tecna - december 16, 1988

this means that in the year that they all graduate from alfea & rf in s3, the ages would be something like: [stella, sky, riven, brandon, timmy, nabu - 19], [bloom, musa, tecna, flora, aisha - 18], and [helia - 20].

and i forgot if this is only in the 4kids dub or canonically mentioned anywhere else, but the trix are apparently 'seniors' (third years at cloud tower) in the winx's first year. and since they all share a birthday (may 5), this would make the trix 18 in s1 and 20 in s3. (in my rewatch of the cinélume dub, i noticed darcy calls icy "little sister," so maybe darcy is older by a couple hours than icy and stormy just seems like she'd be the youngest.)

i like to play around with school-year cut-offs and i don't think each of the characters that share the same age/grade are born in the same year, so my hcs for age order differ from this list. but yeah :) this is what i could work out based on canon information.

Spoilers ahead, y'all!

Whilst I did make a post about timelines and possible magic and extension of life, somehow, the simple explanation escaped me completely. Especially as someone who lives in Norway, where Winter is half of the year.

When were Lila and Jaysohn born, if they knew their dad half their life? Early Winter. Geoffrey probably died sometime right before Spring, where the snow is still thick and the air still freezing. Let's say, if the plot of the story takes place in September-October, Geoffrey died in March-April, with the kids born around December-January. It would, actually, explain everything. We know, from Viola, that these stoats don't follow normal stoat mating patterns; Viola is having her kids in Autumn. Therefore, who's to say Tula couldn't have Lila and Jaysohn in Winter? They're sapient creatures, who can think and plan. We also get the small glimpse that Tula knows that they may have some control over when they get pregnant, but not always. Who's to say it didn't happen to her, too? What if, that Winter was where Tula gained so much, and nearly lost everything in one moment.

Although, I still believe Ava is overestimating her own age just so she can get away with more things.

So @sapphire-writes and I have taken the last few days to figure out what we wanted to do in terms of our plagiarism claims and decided writing a joint statement and providing evidence would be best. We want to start by saying we have absolutely no intention of starting a fight nor do we condone any hate anons/messages/etc. We are writing this purely to wash our hands of the situation and move on, not to bring about more drama. We believe that everyone should be held to the same standard regardless of who they are and that plagiarism is NEVER okay.

With that being said, here is the evidence we have.

In terms of my own plagiarised fic, both Caged Bird and Belong by valeskafics bare a suspicious resemblance to In The Woods Somewhere, with the former two being posted January 6th 2024 and January 1st 2024, respectively, and my own fic being posted December 24th 2023. Though there are numerous similarities throughout both fics to my own work, I’ve chosen to only include the most damning.

In the Woods Somewhere- She knows the moment he looks up at her, rifle clutched in his hands, that he will not be coming north with her. Not anymore, not now that he has the one thing tying him to this place well in hand. […] He is Capitol in blood and flesh and bone just as she is district.

Some people said that Lulu was going to be late and be born on the 24th like the Christmas present she was. And because there was a bet that her middle name would be Noelle if it was. Charlie said that she'd be a good swiftie like her Mama and come on the 13th to share a birthday with the queen herself. But Blake was the one who came closest, saying she'd ruin everyone's bets on one column of the "Dan and Em are having a baby" betting pool by coming whenever she wanted. And in true Ricciardo fashion, Luna Grace appeared the one day that nobody had bet on.

It was the same as every night since Dan had gotten back from Abu Dhabi, Em cuddling against her husband while he rubbed her sore lower back. They knew they were into the last few nights as just two of them instead of three and they took advantage of it. Everything seemed as normal as Em thought it was, a low ache coming and going in her back. Her body was sore and out of room. Lulu needed to get ready to leave because her mum felt like she was about to burst before her due date arrived in five days.

But even with her discomfort things were good. They were really good. Charlie and Blake were in their own little engaged couple world after Blake's proposal on their anniversary. Their family was healthy and Dan could close his little finger fully now. He was happy and excited about going back to work in January with Red Bull and being back in the senior team. And Em was happier than she thought she could be.

Her head was in a good place, Mildred helping her prepare to be a mother and have her daughter. Mentally she was better than she'd been in most of her life. And she'd never admit it to Dan, probably never to anyone, but finding out that Michael wasn't going to be in the paddock next year gave her an extra peace of mind. So of course, just as she was starting to drift off to sleep, Lulu decided she was making her appearance.

Dan knew that people thought he was insane for not being scared to drive some of the fastest cars in the world for a living, or go dirt biking or mountain biking along forest trails. He was an adrenaline lover who enjoyed getting scared at least once a month. Even when Em asked him to not scare her. But the moment she looked up at him with big eyes and said she was in labour Dan could feel the panic creeping in.

He'd thought that Blake and Charlie staying with them until Em gave birth was insane. That they didn't need them there, as appreciative as they were. But Blake had insisted that Dan would freak the fuck out when it happened and he didn't want Dan driving Em to hospital alone. He'd insisted he was fine and didn't need it. But then when it happened he was so grateful that they were there. He just helped Em out, holding her hand as contractions happened and did whatever she needed to feel safe until they made it to the hospital.

From the first time he'd met her Dan knew Emmy was a force of nature. He'd known about the inner strength she had, but seeing her that early morning as she gritted her teeth and pushed was something he could never describe. He couldn't find the words to explain how it felt to watch her bringing their daughter into the world. After everything they'd been through together and on their own, after the year before putting herself together following her breakdown and making herself get better. She went through hell and crawled her way back and stopped Dan from drowning in his own emotions. She did all of that. She carried their daughter and kept her safe even when their plans for the year got turned upside down and they went back to travelling the world. Emmy did it with grace and poise and beauty, making it look easy when Dan knew it wasn't.

She said she was fine when he knew she was sore and wanted to take a deep breath and not need to pee every two minutes. Dan knew better than anyone how terrified she was. Her fear about not being a good mum. In the dark of night curled up against him admitting her fears about not being physically able to push their daughter out of her body and into the world. Admitting that yeah, she was scared about how it would hurt and she wasn't afraid to admit that she wanted an epidural as soon as it was possible. And even during all of that, she made it look easy, filling Dan with pride for his wife. He held out his hand for her to push and she forced him around the other side of the bed because she was afraid to hurt his left hand. Because even when she was in labour she looked after him instead of it being the other way round.

That entire night felt like watching a video at double speed. It was intense and he was holding Em's hand and pulling her hair back from her face, but the second he heard their daughter cry it was like everything just stopped. In full Ricciardo spirit Lulu entered the word with a loud cry to announce herself. It echoed around the room, bouncing around his ears and landing into his heart because that was his daughter and she was right there.

There was a list of things that Dan would never forget even if he tried. The first two were the most important moments of his relationship with Em. Seeing his Emmy for the first time was number one, arriving at Blake's with a shy smile and a bottle of wine in her hand, sitting next to him in her little black dress with long brown hair running down her back. Secondly was arriving home in Monaco to see her sandwiched between his parents. How she was too skinny and too pale and had clearly been crying but she was there and even with all the changes to both of them she still fit into his arms. The way he held onto her like she'd disintegrate and she grabbed him too.

After that were smaller moments that were no less important. When he saw her on their wedding days, her gorgeous dresses and shy smiles and the way she said "I do" without hesitation or fear. The first time he saw her holding Isaac or Isabella. They day on the couch in Perth when she fell asleep in his arms with Isaac against her chest and his head screamed love her love her love her love her. The look on her face when the pregnancy test came back positive in LA, that she really was pregnant.

The list could have gone on forever, but now sliding in straight at number one was the first time he laid eyes on his daughter. The night had felt like minutes instead of hours, but in the early dawn light Luna was born and time slowed down. His Emmy was a mum and everyone could know. The world could know that she was one and he was so fucking happy about it. After all the tears and pain and sadness and worry it was replaced by pure peace. His Emmy was a mum.

It was surreal to watch Em sit up in the bed with the help of pillows and take her daughter in her arms. It was like they were meant to be there and he was just the lucky man who got to love both of them as hard as he could. He was the one they chose because he was completely and utterly theirs. It was magical. Everything he'd done before wasn't as important because now she was there and he got to spend his life loving the two girls sitting on the bed in front of him. The tiny human in the lavender blanket and hat that her Mama had made for her over the last few weeks was going to grow up in front of him and he couldn't wait to see who she became.

One of the other bets that almost everyone put money on was Lulu's weight and height. Everyone expected her to be small and take after Em, but they were all entirely wrong. She was beautiful and healthy with dark hair already peeking out from her tiny hat, but the nurse confirmed she was four and a bit kilos which made Dan smile, already longer than average. He didn't know how he loved her so much already but he did.

"Ready to hold her, Dad?" Em asked, his jaw dropping as he looked at his wife and his daughter.

"I'm her dad. Holy fuck I'm her dad and you're her mum." Emmy giggled at his words, holding her arms out for him to take that precious bundle into his own. She fit there perfectly and his world turned upside down in seconds as the gravity hit him. His daughter.

"Hey Lulu. I'm your dad. And we are so excited that you're here. Thanks for waiting for me to get home, Sweetheart."

In that moment he felt exactly the same way he did when he got to hold Em in his arms for the first time. He didn't want to let her go ever again. Something in him told him that this moment would change his life and it was exactly the same now.

"I love you so much, baby girl. So, so much. Welcome to the world." He pushed a kiss to her so soft cheek, cursing the tears that were welling up for blurring his view of her face. It was forever carved into his memory, tiny lips pursed.

If Dan thought that letting Em go when she was going back to Perth and he had to go to Australia was hard, he was wrong compared to giving his daughter to the midwife. She was still in the room, they could see and hear her, but she needed to be checked over by the nurse. It broke his heart for the few minutes, but instead he focused on Em and wiped away the happy tears she'd let out at seeing them. Her hair got re-braided to keep it out of her face and he told her just how proud he was of her. She was the strongest, most badass human he'd ever known and he couldn't believe how lucky he was to get to share a life with her. He kissed her face and thanked her, repeating words of love as his wife said them right back until their daughter was safely in their arms again.

He knew he needed to go tell his parents that Em and Lulu were safe and healthy but he couldn't leave them. It wasn't until they'd been brought back to the comfort of their little room that he was ok with leaving Em for a moment. It was a nod to the nurse on guard duty to stop strangers getting into the maternity ward as he went out to the waiting room. Blake and Charlie were sitting waiting beside his parents as the four stood up for news. Congratulations, hugs and tears met Dan as he told them that Luna Ricciardo was there safe and well, and Emmy was fine. Sore and she'd be tired, but fine.

Grace and Joe went down to get coffee for everyone in the early morning, promising to come back with whatever cheesy goodness they could find for Em. While they were gone Dan took uncle Blake and auntie Charlie to meet their baby niece. It was as quiet as possible entering the room to not disturb either a sleeping newborn or new mother, but Em smiled and said hi as they entered. The new adults came to give Em a hug and congratulations while Dan picked his daughter up from the bedside crib she'd been placed in. He supported her head in the crook of his elbow as he walked slowly over to their friends, introducing the newest member of their family.

"Ok Lu, these are some pretty important people so best behaviour, yeah? This is your auntie Charlie and your uncle Blake. They're two of the people you can rely on the most in the world, it's why we picked them to be your godparents. They're pretty special like you."

"Oh my God look at her. Guys, she's beautiful," Blake whispered as he held his arms out to take the baby. Lulu grasped his finger with her tiny hand while he settled her down. "Thank God she looks like you, Timmy. Pretty like her mum."

"Hey Lulu, you're so - wait. Repeat what you just said?" Charlie's gazze went straight from Lulu to Dan and Em as she took in what Dan had said. They hadn't told her she was going to be Lulu's godmother. Godfather was an easy choice, it was always going to be Blake and he'd known since he knew about the pregnancy, but it took months to decide who would be godmother. And in the end it was an easy decision. They'd only known her a year but Charlie had been a rock. They knew if anything happened she'd be there, and even if she didn't need to raise Lulu she'd be a friend and comfort and support. If anything happened to the two of them the papers were all written out, Blake and Charlie knew they'd raise Lulu. It was the perfect decision.

"I know you've a bunch of nieces and nephews and you're godmother to some of them, so I figured another one wouldn't be a problem?" Em forced herself to shrug, acting like it wasn't a big deal when in reality it meant everything to every single person in that room.

"Wanna hold her when your fiance stops hogging the baby?" Dan asked, looking straight at Charlie. His wife's best friend was wiping tears away while she stared at Lulu.

"Are you sure?" The unasked second part of "about making me her godmother" hung in the air.

"Hundred percent."

Dan watched his friends hold the newest love of her life while he put an arm around his wife's shoulders and waited for his parents to come back in. For the first time in almost three years things felt right.

If Cora was Stiles' age, wouldn't she have been in his grade before the fire? He knew of Derek and the Hale family but it just seems like Cora was written in last minute.

all of season 1-3B takes place in 2011.

the hale fire was six years prior to the start of wolf moon. stiles is speaking hyperbolically when he says it was 10 years ago. we know it was six from what derek tells scott in magic bullet.

derek: six years ago, my sister and I were at school, and our house caught fire.

it's established that cora was 11 at the time of the hale fire in 2005. this comes from frayed during her and peter's conversation.

cora:  you've known me for seventeen years! peter: i knew you for eleven, leaving the last six unaccounted for. and i'm not particularly fond of things unaccounted.

she's 17 in visionary.

visionary takes place during the fall 2011 semester of the main pack's junior year.

in comparison to the others:

allison turned 17 in the tell which takes place at the end of january 2011. allison says she was held back due to all the moving around. she's the oldest in their cohort.

lydia turned 17 on march 19th in party guessed during season 2 on the worm moon. we know it was her 17th birthday due to the conversation lydia and natalie have about lorraine's ashes in time of death in season 4 which takes place during the spring semester 2012 of lydia's junior year.

natalie: because she wanted you to do it... when you turned eighteen. don't ask me why. but, since there's only a few weeks 'til that, i suppose now is as good a time as any.

stiles would've turned 17 in april according to his official birthday of april 8th.

scott didn't turn 17 until september as is official birthday is september 16th.

malia turned 17 on november 28th making her the youngest of their cohort.

other odds and ends:

theo was in the fourth grade with stiles and scott making him their age. his birthdate is incorrectly listed as 1998.

jackson was born june 5th so he turned 17 between seasons 2 and 3A.

malia was 9 years old at the time of the car accident that killed her mother and sister which puts it in 2003. 2 years before the hale fire.

now while we can acknowledge the real reasons why cora's timeline is so shaky is because they winged a lot of it but what's the fun in that? here on buckybarness dot tumblr dot com we do teen wolf academia.

now one does wonder how scott, stiles, lydia and isaac didn't know cora but there could be viable reasons for that.

i discovered that the law changed in california in 2000 to raise the kindergarten enrollment age to 5 years old by september 1st. prior to this if a child turned 5 on or before december 2nd they could enroll.

they all would've started kindergarten in 1999.

this might be why scott and malia are in the same school year as lydia and stiles rather than being in the year behind.

if they'd had the foresight they should've had allison turn 18 in season 1 and have her a legitimate full year older than the rest because like she's only 3 months older than lydia so it seems a bit odd she's so embarrassed by turning 17 when she has a birthday so close to lydia and stiles. for someone turning 18 and being a sophomore due to being held back? that'd be embarrassing to someone in the american school system.

now cora could've been born in late 1993 to early-mid 1994. she could've been a grade ahead if she was closer in age to allison than to scott. i do strongly suspect that talia and corrine had overlapping pregnancies and being pregnant at the time is one of the reasons talia coerced corrine into keeping her pregnancy with malia.

the tates could've had malia start school later than the rest because she would've been 4 at the start of the year rather than 5 even if the law at the time allowed it. she just joined the rest as juniors when she returned to society because it made sense to keep her with the friends she'd made and she was 17.

if cora was in the grade above she could've been in middle school while the others were still in elementary school or maybe both malia and cora attended different schools due to zoning.

maybe they were homeschooled.

we'll never really know but it's interesting to think about.

Ain't it the truth? No dealings with any Smoking Fetish websites by her; she's been an SF Entrepreneur since when she first entered the Greater SF World Community scene close to or exceeding 10 years ago. Got on to and into YouTube. Then Social Media was the next platform to tackle. Did so with aplomb and popularity! And she has presented herself, as she has matured into a woman in her late-20s, probably pushing 30 y.o. ⏤ already approaching that threshold or soon to be ⏤ with remarkable style, grace, beauty, sexiness and dignity. She exhibits class and exudes her love for smoking! She's not going anywhere, any time soon! So delighted to see this new video of her that already is one of the best she's ever done . . . and she's had well more than a dozen gems ⏤ by any standard. This clip will age well; it will grow on many of you.

… well, we lifted this video from the authentic post by lurkyjurky on January 19, 2024 then, as a network, decided the next day to make this our first The Video of The Month | Hall of Fame division post for the new year. Then we found it on the YouTube "smoking santa" webpage published on January 15, 2024. Skittlez has a young child, nearing school age if not there already and possibly a younger child. Skittlez does NOT smoke around children! She has moved frequently, starting out in SF in her native Colorado, then moving East one or two times before having settled in Texas within the past 18 months or so. She is now a Marlboro 100s Gal but smoked the variety of Marlboro Menthols 100s brands for years. She shines so splendidly and seductively with Virginia Slims 120s Gold Pack (non-menthol). It appears that she might never have met a brand that she doesn't enjoy. Kind of a born smoker. But she's been a Marlboro Reds 100s enthusiast for several years now. Hope you enjoy the Megapost! treatment of her! We gained much pleasure in producing this post. And she cares about SF. She has already paid it forward by turning her friend "Porcelain Victoria" into her protégé several years ago. Skittlez showed her friend how it's done. REVISION/UPDATE: We were quite pleased with the content we brought to you in our 20 Video of The Week posts, 10 each for the Hall of Fame division and the Honorable Mention division. We were quite displeased with the difficulty of bringing them to you on a regular and timely basis. We failed at that. The series began on August 31, 2023, with the rollout of each on that day. Seventeen weeks later we had carried on with only 9 other installments of Hall of Fame and Honorable Mention division videos. That simply was not frequent enough ⏤ ostensibly we missed out on 7 series installments ⏤ and we had acknowledged the problem and discussed one-on-one and in small groups but to no avail. No solution until finally admitting our shortcoming and cutting the losses. But the series does not complete end; it morphs into Videos of The Month in which we will aim for two installments every 30-31 days depending. Might call them, hypothetically, "Video of The Month | Hall of Fame division A” or “Video of The Month | Honorable Mention division II.” We’ll sort it out. This is a much more manageable load with one (or two) a month in each division. Eight a month was viable for several weeks before it became too burdensome and we fell off the intended production pace, where we were stuck since late-October/early-November. We are comfortable in our decision. Not ideal to be in this spot ⏤ of our own making ⏤ and perhaps not an elegant solution. Yet the net result is the same (special memorable, quality content still being provided) but without the volume that we found unsustainable. Let’s see how it unfolds. strade: sagittarius

this is a bit awkward to explain since i'm a sagittarius myself. i don't relate to him, but he definitely has to be a fire sign and this one seemed the most fitting out of the three. first of all sagittarians are considered lively, passionate, outgoing and charming - traits that i think fit strade's description. he's carefree and fun-loving i guess you could say, but also intelligent in a way, or at least has a good technical information. gato has mentioned that strade has a fear of being limited or locked up which goes well with the thing sagittarians have with their freedom.

lawrence: capricorn

now that is a capricorn man if i've ever seen one. they're described as critical, sensitive and cautious, struggling with letting people in. capricorns are happy being on their own and fall in love slowly, they have to take time to understand you at first. it's clear that lawrence doesn't trust people easily. to me it seems like he wants to be in control of things, too. on surface level, those antlers remind me of the symbolized mythological creature of capricornus and regardless of his love for plants, i associate lawrence with snowy forests instead of green. (capricorns are born december 22 - january 19)

ren: libra

i'm not only saying this because i tend to be head over heels for libras okay let me tell you something; libras are often extroverted and sweet. they avoid conflict which is why they tend to be people-pleasers and we know ren is one. even when he's older in tpof, you can kind of call him out for not making his own decisions, but instead relying on the chat's suggestions and opinions. maybe he struggles with making them himself... and what's the biggest libra stereotype again? yeah, exactly that. librans are ruled by venus, the goddess of love, so they adore beautiful things. of course he'd want to dress you up all pretty for the live streams <3

mason: taurus

i admit i haven't actually diven that deep into this character yet, but right off the bat he strikes me as an earth sign. taureans love to relax in serene, bucolic environments, which i guess you could call his cabin in the woods. they're also built for endurance and tasks requiring concentration and determination, traits that i assume must be helpful when hunting. mason comes off as resourceful and tough, just like taureans.

celia: virgo

my beloved celia... like virgos, she's hardworking and intelligent, but also uptight and easily frustrated. understandably so, imagine being married to a man when you could run away with me 🙄 anyway, they're also perfectionists at heart and she'd probably enjoy training you with diligent and consistent practice, you're her little mouse after all. oh, and virgo rules the digestive system. hand over those donuts, ma'am!

derek: leo

bet you thought i'd say scorpio because of his tattoo? nah, he has leo energy. he's confident - even arrogant - and fits the leo description of both luxury-loving and drama-loving. leos love to lead, be admired and receive praise and respect of others. i imagine derek's like that due to possible daddy issues. sorry to come for him like that. my opinion might be completely based due to growing up with a couple of brats from upper middle class families who happened to be leos.

Feb: Cato's cancer diagnosis and discovery of weird mutated cells that likely won't be explained until after he passes away. He's still with me, fortunately! No idea how much time he has left but I'm grateful for every second

April: a small leak in my dining room ceiling turned into a bigger leak which turned into a massive hole in the ceiling, at least it wasn't winter???

May: DD Born Again Photos give us all a goddamn heart attack

May: I FUCKING REACH MY OVERALL 1,000,000 WORD COUNT ON AO3. 🎊 🎉 🎊 Next stop is 1mill for TRT!

June: Went to my first con since Covid! Drove all the way down to Philly to see Charlie Cox, WHICH WAS FUCKING AMAZING, HE HELD THE RED THREAD FOR OUR PHOTO, MY FANFIC DREAMS HAVE COME TRUE, AND I TOLD HIM WHAT DD MEANS TO ME AND HE WAS SO NICE I COULD CRY

June: At that same con, I finally FINALLY got to meet my bff @wonderlandmind4 in person after many many many late nights of chatting, and we just CLICKED like we'd been friends for years, which I should have expected, but still! And then I got to meet a bunch of my readers, too! Best con experience EVER

July: enter Whoops Covid Finally Got Me After 3 Years But Charlie Was Worth It ™

July: Finally dusted off my draft of Pasta's First Dark Fic cause even if my brain was too fuzzy to write, I figured I could edit a bit. And I did! And was pretty happy with the results!

August: Shit Now There's A Long Covid Heart Issue And I Can't Be Seen Until Late November Thanks Covid ®

August: leak in the garage leads to me losing about 65% of all the beautiful, special woods pieces I'd gathered over the course of six years for carving. Within a week I am gifted a huge bin of wood from a kind soul at my local witchy shop

Sept: TRT's 6th anniversary!

Nov: I was slowly getting back into the swing of things, doing a bit of writing in between learning to manage whatever was going on with my heart (which we'll hopefully figure out in January when I get all the results of testing in Jan)

Early Dec, and the worst week of my life: mom got sick. Within one day she went from not feeling good to needing an ambulance. By the next day, she was in the ICU - flu induced double pneumonia that was interfering with her breathing and heart issues. And with one more day, she was put into an induced coma and ventilated, without any of us sure if she'd pull through. They told us she'd likely be under for two weeks, potentially longer even if she made it. The amount of messages and supportive comments I got from all of you, the talks I had with @wonderlandmind4 and @shouldbestudying41, just the general sense of having a community to help me means more than I can ever say as you all helped me through that terrible, horrible moment, even if it was just gently messaging me to remind me to try to eat.

Mid Dec: against ALL odds, Mom was off the ventilator in a week. By week 2, she was out of the ICU. By week 3? Off to the physical rehab center. She was there a grand total of 1 week before she was allowed to come home to finish her recovery. Early December was the worst moment of my life, and yet it was also bookended by the best Christmas of my life even if it was spent at the rehab center, because I got to have my mama back, and hug her and tell her I loved her and make jokes, and now she's home and we've been watching Christmas movies and eating grilled cheeses, and as far as I'm concerned, that's what the holiday is to me: not presents and snow and lights, but this moment, this time with her. 'In all the places you find love, it feels like Christmas.'

In just a few hours for me, it'll be 2024. I have no idea what to expect going forward, or even what to plan for, much less a resolution. I know I want to get back to TRT when mom's a bit better (she still needs a lot of help, understandably). I know there are wood carvings I want make; friends I want to visit; witchy events at my local shop I want to go to. But other than that... who knows? If I'm lucky, things will be calmer than this past year. But even if they aren't, at least I know I have dear friends, all of you, and my family, including Pasta Mama, to help me through it.

once you get back to the lab after collecting a few samples to study you and amanté part ways you sat in your lab which was next door to the main lab after putting the samples away but keeping one out to study.

norm opened the door and the once quiet environment was now loud and full of children laughing and screaming like hyenas you turned and looked at norm “where’s amanté?” you stood up and turned back around putting your sample away “something about helping jake i don’t know” you said shrugging your shoulders “right i-“ he was cut off by 4 kids running into your lab and up to you.

“here all of you come here” tuk attempts to follow her siblings but falls you smile before picking her up and carrying her “i gotcha tuk tuk.”

you had lost track of time talking and answering the kids questions about what you did.

amanté and was looking for you since you were supposed to meet up with him and jake for a briefing about what training you’d be put through, but then jake noticed the kids weren’t around and both him and amanté came looking for you and the kids.

they searched everywhere all around the village “they aren’t here amanté” jake yelled over to his friend “let’s check the lab.”

they walked to the lab asking people if they’ve seen the kids but everyone said no and most of the scientists were out in their avatar bodies doing stuff, or helping in the avatar tent.

“worth a shot still right?” amanté said looking at jake he nodded in response. they walked into the lab looking around trying not to disturb the people who were focused of things already.

“that’s really cool” jakes ears twitched at the muffled voice of lo’ak before he followed where it was coming from and was met with a closed door “yea theres a lot of cool things we don’t know much about the plants and animals so i figured why not study them” jake was confused the kids never stayed in the lab long he opened the door and was met with three large yellow eyes and one pair of dark brown colored eyes “hi daddy” they all said.

but never made a effort to move from their spots on the floor they’re attention turned back on the girl in front of them as she continued talking jake scanned over them, he found all three but his youngest daughter he looked around the group not seeing his youngest daughter until the girl fully turned towards the kids on the floor from her chair.

tuk was curled up against the girls chest sleeping soundly cuddling the girl with a blanket wrapped around her somewhat small body, the girl was rubbing her back and still talking to the rest of kids.

jake couldn’t help but smile at the sight for the first time in a long time he was content.

i spent way too much time on this—like, "wrote it in google docs first" amount of time—but, uh. team strq ages let’s gooooooo!!!

first things first, some assumptions™ that i’m basing this on:

1. the remnant school year follows the japanese school year, i.e. begins in april, and ends in march the following year.

2. the years are split based on birth year, nice and clean, since blake (who’s born in january) says ruby is “only two years younger” than wby. this would mean that blake had already turned 18 by the time of V1 (she would have been 17 during the black trailer), while weiss and yang turned 18 during V1-2 and ruby 16 during the small timeskip at the end of V3. (this is also what i’m used to, so it’s easier on my brain. don't @ me.)

the second point isn’t super relevant, but it does keep things simple since we don’t know strq’s birthdays; basically, the year students start their first year, they’ll be turning 18, 19 for the second year, 20 third, and 21 for fourth, with the possibility that some may have already turned 22 by the time they graduate.

so. the year strq graduates, they’re 21-turning-22 years old. since yang is born on july 28th, raven would have gotten pregnant some time around november / december (if i did my math right. i did count with my fingers.) since the school year ends in march, and i’m doubtful raven was already pregnant while still at school, at earliest yang could have been born was during the same year raven would turn 23.

and since yang is currently 19, 23+19=42 <- the youngest strq could possibly be in the present day.

(that is, assuming they were all 17-turning-18 during their first year. depending how you interpret raven’s “and qrow and i were the perfect age”, they could have been either exactly the age they should be to attend beacon (17-turning-18), or close enough for the tribe that they could pass as the right age.)

anyway! next part: figuring out how old they were during the V9 flashback.

first, the kiddos. if we are to take what yang said literally about ruby not being able to even talk yet when summer disappeared, ruby being a 2-year-old at the time is probably the safest bet. does she look like a 2-year-old in the flashback? eeeehhh… while i’d be willing to give a little more leeway there since it’s a short scene, to be extra safe, let’s say ruby is about 2-3yo, with yang being 4-5yo. if the members of strq were 23 the year yang was born, they would be about 27-28 at the time of the flashback.

which, if i’ve done my math right (knock on wood), is cutting it pretty damn close for raven becoming the spring maiden—even more so if she didn’t get pregnant the soonest possible moment after graduation—since as per miles: “As for ‘too old’, we don't like having super hard-fast rules for certain things, but we've sort of unofficially figured that 30 is probably around the cutoff point to become a maiden.” [source]

to be honest, i do think the math checks out. in before the dawn, according to yatsuhashi, theodore is “likely in his forties, maybe older”, and ozpin “had been younger [than theodore] but seemed much older.” per raven, ozpin was already the headmaster when team strq was formed, and prodigy or not, if as the headmaster of beacon he had a seat at the vale council (likely, since both lionheart and ironwood had council seat in their respective kingdoms as headmasters) i’m somewhat doubtful the rest of the council would have been super fine with someone who isn’t even the age of a huntsman graduate being in charge of what is essentially the main defense of the kingdom. so, if theodore is likely in his forties, maybe older (let’s translate that into late 40s-early 50s), and ozpin was younger than him but older than strq by at least 4 years, that would put him at ~45 in V1, and ~47 if he were still alive. maybe subtract a year or two, as a prodigy discount if you so please, but all in all, it fits rather nicely: yatsuhashi’s thoughts about theodore’s and ozpin’s ages are accurate-ish, and raven is just the right age to inherit maiden powers if she did get them during summer’s mission—and similarly, if / when summer joined salem, they’d still have to search for a maiden host since summer is going to reach the unofficial cutoff point of 30 very soon.

In October, Melissa began an in vitro fertilization cycle. A resident of Birmingham, Alabama, her fertility journey to that point had been not just difficult, but harrowing—earlier that year, she had nearly bled to death during a procedure to resolve a second-trimester miscarriage. When the IVF process yielded just a single viable embryo, she had it frozen, and a few months later started another cycle. “It’s very easy to lose an embryo,” she says. “This is such a delicate process.”

Melissa has a daughter, born when she was younger, but IVF represents her best and last chance to grow her family. After the Alabama Supreme Court ruled last week that embryos are children, all of that is now on hold.

WIRED spoke with three women directly affected by the Alabama Supreme Court’s February 16 ruling, which stated that embryos are “unborn children … without exception based on developmental stage, physical location, or any other ancillary characteristics.” Fearing legal liability given the broad scope of the language, several of the state’s most prominent IVF providers—including the University of Alabama at Birmingham, Alabama Fertility, and the Center for Reproductive Medicine at Mobile Infirmary—have paused treatments. That means patients like Melissa, who is going by a pseudonym given the sensitivity of the topic, are stuck in limbo, and in some cases running out of options.

“I’m rapidly losing time,” says Melissa. The 37-year-old has an autoimmune disorder that she needs to plan IVF cycles around; her ovarian reserves are low enough that her doctors say she has a window of a month, maybe two, to try again. If the ruling holds for much longer, she may not have another chance.

During IVF, patients take hormone-stimulating medications to trigger their ovaries to release mature eggs. The eggs are then retrieved with a small needle and fertilized with sperm in a lab to form embryos. Sometimes a successful IVF cycle can result in several embryos, but doctors typically transfer just one or two into the uterus at a time. Success isn’t promised; about one in three embryo transfers results in pregnancy.

That makes Melissa’s situation especially urgent. There’s no guarantee that her one embryo will result in a birth. But the ruling has disrupted the lives of women at every stage of treatment.

Lochrane Chase started IVF in August, after nearly a year of trying to get pregnant and using less intrusive fertility treatments, such as ovarian stimulation. The 36-year-old Birmingham native was able to freeze and store over two dozen embryos, of which several appeared viable after genetic screening. An embryo transfer in October resulted in a pregnancy, but Lochrane miscarried a few days later. “It was the saddest I’ve ever been in my life,” she says. She tried again in December; again, she miscarried.

Before another scheduled transfer in January, her doctor noticed fluid in her uterine lining; Lochrane underwent surgery in mid-February to address the issue, and scheduled another embryo transfer for March 18. Despite the uncertainty caused by the ruling, she has started taking the necessary hormones anyway in hopes that the situation resolves by then. If not, the medications would have been for nothing, and she’ll be left with no way forward.

That’s due in part to the severity of the new restrictions on embryos in Alabama. Both Melissa and Lochrane looked into getting treatment out of state as soon as the ruling came down, but quickly found that was an unworkable solution. Companies that transport embryos have paused shipping out of the state while assessing the legal risks associated with the ruling. In a statement emailed to WIRED, a representative from the University of Alabama at Birmingham said the health system is working to identify a company that is willing and able to transport their embryos to another facility as soon as possible: “It is our goal to help patients who are interested in this option do so safely, but—at this time—there are no options available.”

Even if patients could transport their embryos, IVF treatment often requires close proximity with the health care provider, making it infeasible for many.

“You have to do blood work every three days. You have to do ultrasounds. To travel to go do that, it’s almost impossible,” says Melissa. Within 24 hours of finding out that her treatment would be affected, Lochrane had made contact with clinics in Boston, Atlanta, and Winston-Salem, North Carolina—conversations that ended when embryo transportation shut down.

The impact is one of lost time and opportunity, but also of cost. Lochrane says she and her husband have spent $50,000 on fertility treatments so far. Each transfer costs $3,500; each round of medication another $500 or so. For Paula, a 38-year-old Birmingham resident, the bulk of her expenses are carried by Progyny, a fertility insurance company that she has access to through her husband’s job.

Paula, who also asked to use a pseudonym, has already undergone one embryo transfer, in April of last year. It resulted in a miscarriage. She now has three frozen embryos left, and had gotten authorization from Progyny earlier this year to attempt another transfer. That authorization has a three-month window, which expires on March 28. “The concern is, if we don’t do it before March 28, will our insurance do another authorization for us, because we live in Alabama?” she says. “It’s been very stressful. My blood pressure has been through the roof.”

In an emailed statement to WIRED, Progyny CEO Pete Anevski said that health care providers “can shift the authorization as needed,” and that the company “will continue to support its member patients and its network providers in Alabama.”

That support can only go so far, though, as long as the Alabama Supreme Court ruling persists. While all three women have frozen embryos, even that practice may be at risk. One of the many uncertainties of the ruling is whether freezing of embryos will be able to continue. “The cryopreservation of fertilized eggs is an essential component of infertility care at this point, and that whole enterprise is very much threatened,” says Sean Tipton, chief advocacy and policy officer at the American Society for Reproductive Medicine, a professional organization that represents fertility specialists. Using frozen embryos for IVF is not only safe but has a higher success rate than fresh embryos.

It’s also unclear how the ruling will impact the egg retrieval process. About five to six days after fertilization, an early-stage embryo, called a blastocyst, forms. But not every fertilized egg goes on to develop into an embryo. This happens naturally, as well as in IVF labs. Under the Alabama ruling, this scenario could also open up a clinic to a potential lawsuit. “With this legal ruling, the question is, if an embryo fails to develop, will these health care providers be found liable for wrongful death or murder or manslaughter?” says Betsy Campbell, chief engagement officer at Resolve, an infertility nonprofit association based in McLean, Virginia.

In a Facebook post, Alabama Fertility Specialists said it is putting new IVF treatments on hold “due to the legal risk to our clinic and our embryologists,” and is contacting affected patients.

In a statement emailed to WIRED, the University of Alabama at Birmingham said its Division of Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility is pausing egg fertilization and embryo development because of “the potential that our patients and our physicians could be prosecuted criminally or face punitive damages for following the standard of care for IVF treatments.”

The patients whom WIRED spoke with all shared a sense of crushing uncertainty and anger.

“People don’t understand that when you’re put in a position to make decisions like [IVF treatment], you don’t make it lightly,” says Melissa. “That it sticks with you forever. That it changes you. To have laws that prevent you from making decisions that—as gut-wrenching as they are, as hard as they are—that you can’t make them for the health of your family, it’s an indescribable feeling.”

Even Lochrane, a lifelong Alabama resident, says that the ruling has made her seriously consider leaving. “I feel so powerless in this state,” she says. Lochrane is on the board of local nonprofits, serves as a deacon in her church, and is deeply involved with numerous civic organizations. Her family is here, as are her friends. Still, she says, the last week has dramatically shifted her perspective. “If I could move to Boston and have an opportunity to have a family there but not in Birmingham,” she says, “I would be at the airport now.”

IVF providers, patients, and advocates are hoping that the Alabama legislature could allow IVF to continue in the state. Last week, Alabama House minority leader Anthony Daniels, a Democrat, introduced a bill that would establish that a “fertilized human egg or human embryo that exists outside of a human uterus is not considered an unborn child or human being” under state law. Republican lawmakers are also expected to introduce similar legislation soon.

“We’re hopeful that there will be a legislative fix,” Campbell says. How long that fix takes, though, will have life-altering consequences for many Alabama IVF patients. And if it doesn’t materialize, most will be left with no options at all.

“We have healthy embryos,” says Lochrane. “We just want to be able to have children.”

As in my chart-calendar above, all I had were approximations because in F&B they do not actually give exact month/day dates for anything but Laena's death. Aegon could have been born anywhere in the last 2-3 according to F&B, but now we know that yes he'd be born around whatever counts as "December" in Westeros. F& B says: "And thus that dreadful year 120 AC ended as it begun, with a woman laboring in childbirth." which I took as it being a "late November" to "late December". But AWoIaF's "the last days of 120 AC" is much clearer. Or maybe this was the case of a different translation of word senses between me and others?

A healthy, safe pregnancy takes 8-9 months of gestation. Aegon came with no complications or worry--so far that is told in either book.

9 months from "December" is "March"; 8 months is "April".

Daemyra married 4-6 months after both their lovers/spouses died. ("Neither Daemon’s wife nor Rhaenyra’s husband had been dead even half a year [6 months]; to wed again so soon was an insult to their memories, His Grace declared angrily."). It's still approximate.

Laenor must have died 4-6 months after Laena.

So Daemyra had to have started sleeping with each other at most 3 months after Laena died or at least 2 months after she died--if not immediately after (perhaps they were even sleeping w/each other while she was alive and that comes with a host of theories of how that would have looked)--and Harwin nor Laenor were dead yet.

THIS IS YOUR ANSWER, ANON. They would HAVE to have been married in the 4th or 5th or 6th months ("April", "May", "June"). They were NOT married in "March"--the use of TWoIaF lets me know the tea!

However...

There is both the difference b/t a conception versus a birth. Births are when children are pushed out the womb and become what we know as the "infant", who will grow into an adult, yada yada. Conception is when we got a fertilized egg/zygote about to develop into a fetus.

Pre-modern medicine knew little to nothing about zygotes nor how to detect them. They have known for millennia, though, that at some point a child begins to grow from the "hidden" womb/woman's body and it is that pregnancy is a vulnerable time for both mother and fetus/child, a delicate process. Medievalesque people like those living in Planetos without the tools or knowledge to detect embryos cannot prove who the father of a child already born is when that question comes up, they are going to be even less able to detect who their dad is before they are born. This is why they place so much importance on girls but especially noble girls and women staying "pure" or "chaste" so they can feel assured and feel that whatever child they carry and birth to will be their husband's, who has a two-fold stake in. It's not a positive test, but a negative one: it's not about detection so much as about removing/whittling down the possible sperm donors to no one but the husband.

This means that any and all fetuses conceived before their parents marry--and if their parents do get married before well before the woman becomes that noticeable or anyone important sees her the birth--will largely be NOT be counted as bastards.

This is another way bastardry reveals itself as nonreal. As a "natural" concept of identity. As a construction based on the happenstance of human behavior, decision, and manipulation, rather than nature.

Of course, the Westerosi would believe that an embryo (if they knew what that was or could trace the moment of conception way before the mom started to show) of an unmarried union would be a bastard. But let's ask ourselves how many people might have sex before marriage, conceive, and then decide to marry bc: one of them wishes to preserve their reputation (usually the woman); they wish to reap whatever benefits come from such a marriage; and/or because they do not want to bring a more apparent "bastard" into the world for them to suffer. I mean, how many peasant births would follow such a pattern versus the opposite? And for bastardry to be a true, natural thing of itself, we absolutely need to count peasant sex-marriage-birth-conception patterns, too, not just the nobles, bc "naturalness" explicitly & implicitly signifies "outside of large-human control", or something that occurs without human direction, intervention, manipulation AND nonetheless affecting them simultaneously. Marriage then works as a tool to prevent both of these things. Whether or not the people loved each other. In real life, the Church wanted and proliferated the idea that people should marry through the idea of uno caro, or "one heart", where worshippers/those of the Catholic community (which is all worshippers) join themselves to each other in marriages to essentially give respect to God. Thus marriage is characterized as a sacred institution. And it was believed that sex was not only existed for reproduction alone, the accompanying pleasure was indicative of sex's "wrongness".
