Kuwei was hope. And he was a boy who deserved to live without a target on his back.

While he never made an appearance in the show (thanks netflix for missing out on the most iconic ice court heist), Kuwei Yul-Bo is such a big part of the crew that I just had to draw him for the collection!✍️ A lot of the story revolves and unfolds around him, and idc what anyone says, I found him very fun✨️

Based the image off a few fan castings I saw of him, and a bit of how I'd imagine him to look like ^-^

The main guy of the series is a murderer who runs a criminal empire and a casino. if you want to police the soc characters based on their actions, you've got bigger fish to fry mate.

I don’t hate kiwi yul bo however I absolutely respect wylans Gay Rage™️ towards him and would hands down back him up in pushing him in a river. And I think that’s an important distinction to make

Jesper and Wylan are being bitter towards eachother because Kaz drops the Van Eck reveal and Jesper believes whole heartedly that Wylan doesn’t trust him and this continues throughout the majority of the heist. It dwindles more in the later episodes where Jesper learns more about who Wylan is despite his surname and realises that someone’s name means absolutely nothing if you care so much about them.

Once they retrieve kuwei they’re back on the ferolind, Kuwei and jesper are talking and Wylan is perched somewhere on the small deck doodling or napping or just staring off into the distance finally letting himself relax after they were nearly gunned down in the harbour and Kuwei starts asking Jesper questions before he slowly makes a calculated move towards asking about Jespers love life and Jesper says something about how all the girls back in Ketterdam love him/know of him and Kuwei asks

“Just girls”

and Jesper responds

“No, not just girls” but as he speaks the words he’s looking away from Kuwei to the man leant up against a barrel of ammunition, his hair a mess, his face littered in cuts from the shards of glass that rained over them before they stole a tank together and Jesper cannot look away

Okay this might be INCREDIBLY nitpicky but there's this one continuity error (???) In SoC and CK that won't leave my mind at rest. (It's not even bad I just can't be normal about this). And it's this:

Screenshot 1: "Wylan was a bit taller than Kuwei, his face a lot rounder". (Six of Crows, p. 450)

Screenshot 2: "Wylan was taller than Kuwei; his face was narrower too" (Crooked Kingdom, p. 345)

I NEED TO KNOW WHICH OF THESE ARE TRUE WHO OF YOU IS LYING TO ME

Does Wylan have a Babyface????? Does he not????? Is it a Pov thing????? Does Kaz just think his face is rounder and Jesper doesn't????? Who of them is right?????? Which one of you is telling me the truth????????

Ive been going insane about this in ways that I can't even explain without looking like I completely lost it. I need a solution to this. Please. Anyone.

Now that I'm actually looking into the soc fandom...why does everyone hate Kuwei?? I thought he was hilarious

i think the six of crows fandom has a real problem with acknowledging complexity in the characters which is ironic because it’s literally a book about morally grey characters. like yes kaz is a cold blooded murderer who cares more about money than being a good person but he’s also a dumb teen boy with a crush and a bad haircut. inej is a knife-wielding spy as well as a deeply religious girl who never stopped believing in kindness. jesper is a confident, reckless sharpshooter but he’s also incredibly scared and angry. wylan is an empathetic and kind artist along with being a dangerously intelligent explosives expert. nina is a fun, food-loving girl but she also stands up for the oppressed and struggles to recover from an addiction. matthias is an angry druskelle but he’s also the boy who learned to love grisha unconditionally. even kuwei has more depth than we give him credit for. he’s the flirty troublemaker as well as a grieving kid who’s had too much pressure put on him. they all have nuance, please don’t take that away because it’s such an important theme in the books
