An ever-evolving list of my headcanons for Victor Rookwood. Some of these may seem obvious to you. Some may be controversial. Agree? Disagree? Let's not have any fighting amongst Daddy Rookwood's small-but-dedicated harem, please.

He is in his mid 40s if not older. I don't care what anyone says. I can't have Daddy Rookwood being younger than I am! Even if he is a fictional character from more than a century ago... I just saw someone genuinely argue "as a Buddie shipper" (which I don't believe) that Buddie shouldn't happen because: their close friendship is too important, the text of the show doesn't support Eddie being gay the way it supports Buck being bi, Eddie is "not ready", and that Ryan Guzman plays Eddie "too straight" to be able to pull off acting Buddie and this feels like to me someone who doesn't actually ship Buddie but is claiming to cause they think it'll give them more credibility in criticizing it.

1) if I see one more argument about how their close male friendship is too important because of toxic masculinity and that making it romantic would ruin it I'm going to lose my marbles because this is the dumbest take. TV is FULL of vulnerable platonic male friendships - 9-1-1 is FULL of them. Also them becoming romantic does not mean they would no longer be friends.

2) So we're just pretending queer-coding doesn't exist now okay.

3) I'm sick to death of the argument of Eddie not being ready. When is he allowed to be ready??? Does he have to suffer for a decade before he's allowed to figure things out??

4) They have to be watching the show with their eyes closed to think Ryan Guzman who has been playing Eddie "Heart Eyes" Diaz for 6 seasons couldn't pull off Buddie.

I'm gonna talk about all points, but the Eddie is too straight thing drives me INSANE. Four months ago, if I said "oh, Eddie is straight, no way buddie is happening" I would have whole essays on how he's gay thrown my way before I hit post. We're talking about a character who had panic attacks about his girlfriend. Who this season had literal erectile dysfunction with another girlfriend. There is no heterosexual explanation for the way Eddie was looking at Buck during the poker game. That man looks at Buck like he's the sun, the sky, the stars, and the moon. Like Buck is somehow the best thing he ever laid eyes on. Yeah, there are threads to pull. With Buck. We only need Eddie to be into one man. And boy, do we have threads to pull there. And honestly, if you wanna see Ryan play painfully straight men, go watch anything else in his filmography, that man knows how to act painfully straight. It's not what he's doing with Eddie. This narrative that Ryan is somehow sabotaging buddie's chances is so beyond ridiculous. Personally, I don't subscribe to Eddie being strictly gay, but I legit don't care anymore as long as he's out of the closet soon give him whatever label, but even if there weren't threads to pull to make it seem like Eddie is in love with Buck, and there are a lot of them, this idea that Eddie being gay is only valid if he's a stereotypical gay man from the beginning is NUTS. Why does gay have to look a specific way to be valid for y'all? This is such a harmful point of view. You want rep but it needs to fit in this one specific box or else it's not valid? What is wrong with you?

The male friendship thing, please tell me where are we lacking vulnerable male friendships in media? Media is made of male friendships. Everything everywhere is about male characters. And Buck and Eddie dating would not negate their friendship all of a sudden. Yall do realize you're supposed to like the person you're dating, right? Isn't literally everyone on the planet telling everyone to marry their best friend? How would that ruin their friendship? It just makes them a stronger couple because they have that foundation. And there literally isn't a show or movie that had two guy best friends who weren't introduced as queer who started dating. Literally, does not exist in media, how would losing exactly one friendship suddenly destroy male friendship representation everywhere? And we weren't even be losing the friendship, the friendship is gonna be a core part of buddie forever. You want strong male friendships? Go watch literally anything else. Every procedural ever has two guy best friends. Go watch house, any of the ncis, h50, the one chicago shows, hell, go watch lord of the rings or something, there are so many male friendships in media. No one is gonna die if Buck and Eddie kiss.

And the whole Eddie not being ready thing. Are we watching the same show? The show where madney started while Maddie was running for her life or bathena started while Bobby was actively suicidal? Or that even henren was presented to us when Hen cheated? Buck's own definition of love is "So every day is the best day ever. Is that really love? Right? Shouldn't it be when you're at your worst, they're at their worst, you have every reason to give up, and you still decide you want to try again?" loving someone at their lowest is the definition of love for that show. It's working through the bad to appreciate the good. And again, this idea that someone needs to be healed to be worthy of love is fucked UP. Eddie is never gonna be fully healed. Recovery isn't linear and he has ptsd. He will forever grieve Shannon. Does that mean he's never gonna be allowed to be loved because he is a human being who has been through hell? What does it take for someone to be "ready for love", huh? What's the threshold here? He was in a helicopter that was shot down and got shot 3 times, he was abandoned by a wife he later was forced to watch die, he was shot at again in broad daylight, he watched his best friend die and had to save him, his own parents just stole his kid. What does he have to do to prove that he is worthy of love, how does he have to handle all that? What I'm getting here is that someone who's been through shit can't be loved, is that the message we're sending? Really? No one seriously wants Buck and Eddie to open season 8 dating, but they are partners and best friends and they don't have to have everything figured out before they go there, they can figure it out together, they do it together anyway. Why can't they take that step and figure things out as a couple? Jesus.

My favorite part of these next gen asks you send me is that it implies that the next gens actually like Lightning and try to involve him in their shenanigans, and it just makes me really happy okay?!

Not sure if your looking for a fic/ficlet or if you just want some headcanons, so I’m gonna go with headcanons if that’s okay! (I wrote most of this out during my lunch break at work so if it’s not great that’s why)

Here’s how I think the next gens would react to finding out Lightning is bi and single:

Tim: surprised to find out McQueen is single, not surprised at all to know he’s bi. He’s seen the interviews from the WGP and there’s no heterosexual explanation for how him and Francesco interact.

Ryan: tries to set him up on a blind date, but McQueen politely declines the offer; he’s okay being single for now.

Chase and Bubba: are very indifferent to the whole thing. This information changes absolutely nothing about how they perceive Lightning. They have no interest in McQueen’s love life, but are entertained by how much the other racers seem to care.

Danny: Thinks it’s great that McQueen is open about his sexuality and love life. He joins in with the rest in trying to set him up with someone. Starts a betting pool with the other racers to see who’ll get McQueen a date first.

Cruz: immediately half-jokes that McQueen and Jackson should go out on a date (I say half-jokes because she can totally tell they both find each other attractive so she’s really trying to play matchmaker here)

Jackson: acts like he doesn’t give af, but is secretly trying to work up the courage to ask Lightning out. He didn’t even realize Lightning was bi until all the next gens started discussing his love life, and while he won’t admit it to anyone he got a little excited/hopeful that he could have a chance with the racing legend

You're bi, right? What does being bi mean. Does it mean that you have to both be sexual attracted and in love with someone? For example, what if a person does not necessarily fall in love with the same sex, but totally enjoys the sex? To me it means that person is still straight because having sex is a physical response you can't help for. Like you're going to get sexual pleasure no matter who is giving you friction? Can you please clarify this. Thank you.

Okay first of all I wanna start by saying that I am not a psychologist, I don’t have a degree on sexuality, and this is entirety a response based on what I, personally, understand sexuality to be like, so pls know that.

Second, the way I see it, being bisexual with no other explanation or addition means to be attracted sexually and romantically to men and women. Thing is, you can separate romantic feelings from sexual feelings, so, for example what you’re describing seems to be a bisexual person who is heteroromantic, as in, is attracted physically to men and women but could only potentially fall in love with the opposite gender. The other way around could be heterosexual biromantic.

In my humble opinion, sex isn’t just friction, it isn’t just a means to an end with anything you can find, have it be woman, man, nonbinary, etc., it usually stems from sexual attraction, which could mean being sexually attracted to a gender that writes you off as heterosexual. Does that make sense? It doesn’t necessarily have to be bisexual, as in it could be pansexual, too, or other.

In my case I think I could have sex with anyone I’m attracted to that is obviously attracted to me. I’m still figuring out whether I can fall in love or not (I’ve been describing myself as greyromantic for a bit), but if I do, it feels that the right term for me would be biromantic (as well as bisexual).

Again, pls don’t take my word as the word of a professional of any kind, I am just answering based on the way I live my sexuality and I’ve seen the people close to me live theirs. :) 💗

so lavender haze is a bop and i think it's fascinating

like ofc there's the "straight view" based on the mad men explanation she gave (which is a lil suspicious in and of itself but i'll get to it later): a desire to be in the ambiguity of love and not forced to commit to the extremes of "a one night or a wife". living in the moment, be wise, strain the wine, carpe diem, and trust as little in the future as possible, all that horace stuff. additionally, the "damned if i do give a damn what people say" does play into her public image and mental health and how, even within heterosexuality, she'll be judged regardless

however, there's the queer view. first of all, lavender is a very gay colour, and i knew that even before i knew i was bi (granted, i wanted to be the """"educated ally"""" and liked history and etc but it's not tough information to stumble across). additionally, even though all google searches for "lavender haze" will now link back to taylor, the madmen example that she gave is only really seen there and on urban dictionary. while urban dictionary is fun, i wouldn't exactly call it a reliable source (unless it's bitching about my high school, in which case it's extremely reliable). i think that most people who say "gay pride... things that make me, me" would be more inclined to think it's a queer phrase. "the 1950s shit they want from me" could be about conservative gender roles, but also conservative sexuality ideals (keeping in mind that the lavender scare about homosexuality was in the 50s while madmen was in the 60s). a lavender haze, by the visual in the music video, obscures the truth, and, while hinting at lavender feelings, cannot be made out. "all this shit is new to me", honestly, speaks more to queerness than heterosexuality. being straight is the default in society, but also to ourselves. a lot of women who had gay feelings thought "oh silly me that's just how friends feel!" (it is not, in fact, how friends feel) and that is the only relevant thing to me about mrs dalloway. "creeping up on me" could be a reference to a more-or-less recent discovery of these feelings. plus, "them bringing up my history", while it could totally be due to taylor's reputation as a serial dater rooted in patriarchal ideals, could also be about a) the women taylor has been rumoured to have dated or b) the fact that people tend to invalidate multisexual identities particularly if they haven't dated someone of the same and another gender.

from that second possible reading, taylor could've only realised her queerness while in a relationship with joe, because that does happen. i think that, due to more and more young people coming out (which is great and lovely!!!!), we can sometimes forget that it can take people time to realise their identity. it's possible that, even with all the karlie kloss and dianna agron stuff, taylor presumed it was just "straight fun" (the dianna agron clip of "i've kissed girls before, it's fun!" springs to mind), before a potential solidification of her own feelings c. 2019 with lover.

please keep in mind that this is all speculation, and honestly a lot of projection. i don't claim to know taylor's sexuality, but i do think that it's lovely there's a deeply personal song for taylor that can resonate with both straight and queer folks, speaking to her talents as a songwriter.
