okay so like… imma say something maybe perhaps perchance controversial and hot-takey relating to sonic. and i’ve wanted to say this for awhile but didnt wanna get canceled becus it’s something that’s sorta difficult to convey through text…

i remember seeing a year or two ago that quite a few people thought shadamy was wrong simply becus amy reminded shadow of maria in SA2. so basically implying that like if amy is reminiscent of maria, this “inherently” means that shadow thinks of her also as his sibling of sorts.

but i honestly think this way of thinking isn’t correct. if you think about this in any context rather than this fandom then my point will be simpler to understand. for example, you can think to yourself “wow my partner has similar traits to {insert person here} in my family” WITHOUT thinking of them as the same person. acknowledging a parallel in personality should not be off limits when comparing someone you share romantic love with and someone you share platonic love with in my opinion, unless you’re the one constantly choosing to say/act upon that fact in an intentionally weird way.

we also don’t really know *exactly* what shadow was thinking in this exact moment, other than the fact that amy’s kind words changed his perspective and motives, which was the main point of that cutscene overall. it could very well be possible that shadow is experiencing some form of underdeveloped love for amy in that moment, but even he doesn’t know what kinda of love that may be becus he’s spent his whole life just traumatized and not exposed to relationship and friendship status quo of the outside world.

and may i remind you that shadamy is not the only ship to do this… so that argument really doesn’t even work?!? sonadow, probably the most popular ship ever in sonic, does this too. that official japanese art/story with shadow looking at the blue shoes references the parallels between sonic and maria i believe, along with MANY fan works i see regularly.

i’m glad the shift in shadamy has become apparent after TMOSTH and the twitter takeovers. i honestly change my opinion quite frequently between seeing this ship as more platonic or more romantic, but i wanted to still defend it nonetheless becus i find it quite ridiculous how much backlash it got for the stupidest things.

and in case this wasn’t clear- I DONT SUPPORT INCEST AND THIS POST IS NOT TRYING TO EXCUSE INCEST IN ANY WAY. i really just think that characters can be more complex than some people initially interpret them and so to quickly shame others based on these conclusions feels very odd to me.

when thinking about opposite I like to think that Zane gets Kai flowers on every single date and gives gifts to him rather than physical contact but still tries to comfort Kai even though it's hard for him.

Ig you could also apply this to sonadow due to Shadow loving lilac and not completely in tune with his emotions towards sonic, having a hard time showing it towards him.

Sonic just acts stupid this whole arc, but SPECIALLY regarding Metal

Brother Metal is quite literally lobotomized he does NOT have a choice and Sonic KNOWS THIS why dows he pretend otherwise???

METAL LITERALLY told him so to his face the previous arc, why did he forgot? Is he stupid?

Also also he CHOSE to let him go and “respect his decision”, but then goes and DOESN’T respect it when its one that he doesn’t like (again, not like it was a real choice on the first place, but IF it was, Sonic already knew that this would happen and was ok with it????)

Also, no, they DID NOT give him freedom, they literally had him there and instead of reprogramming him to stop being loyal to Eggman they just let him go. Why the hell are they acting surprised when the machine programed to follow Eggman… follows Eggman???? As programmed???? Idw is incredibly unfair to Metal, that man is a slave and the narrative blames him for it

More given the fact that Mr.tinker was in the same situation (Turning back to evil ways by something out of their choice) yet Sonic condones Mr.thinker and berates Metal for the exact same situation???? Sonic what is your moral compass on this arc I do not get you

This isn’t freedom, this is the illusion of freedom, they’re giving him an offering he really can’t take as much as he’d want to. They did absolute jackshit to help him, he lacks the agency to help himself then blame him for it

Honestly Shadow and Espio were right, the metal virus was Sonic’s fault, but not for letting Mr.Tinker live. His sin was’t his compassion toward him, his sin was expecting Metal to overwrite the coding that makes him a slave

Honestly I could make a whole rant about how much I hate Sonic’s writing in early idw but I won’t because they had gotten better and thank god he’s no longer like that

So I been excited for the Sonic 3 movie lately shadow is my all time favorite character in the franchise

although the fans of Sonic sometimes scare me for context many of the fans talked about how they can’t wait for Maria (a 12 year old little girl who was friends with shadow) to die and that they would full on cheer on it

Like im Sorry but even as a joke or not that to me is abit uncomfortably weird and also disgusting cause….that is a psychically ill child that Sonic’s fans are excited…to get shot by one of the G.U.N soldiers

Now don’t go on telling me I’m sensitive or being over dramatic if things were different like me saying “oh I can’t wait for this character who is loved by the fandom to die! (Like shadow ) “ I would get backlash

Still crazy to me how people blame the "tarnishing of the Sonic franchise" and all of 06's flaws on Princess Elise. Really?

The character who did nothing wrong. Who went through alot of grief and trauma. is selfless and kind. Who has a character arc shown throughout the story and had a sweet bond with Sonic. She gets the blame for all of 06's flaws and the downfall of Sonic dogpiled onto her.

At most you could say her role in 06's story could've been handled better. But to use her as a scapegoat for all of 06's flaws and the sole reason for the downfall of the franchise is ridiculous.

Tbh alot of Princess Elise hate from the Sonic fandom seems to be driven by sexism imo, with people saying she's useless and blaming her for being kidnapped, calling her a selfish bitch, and calling her a zoophile and necrophiliac for a fairytale kiss :/

I'm gonna say this now, there's gonna be a lot of Sonic rants.

I saw someone say that "Oh my Sonic would never threaten someone with handcuffs! This isnt an accurate-" Movie Sonic is a CHILD. Who's father is a POLICE OFFICER. Aka a man who WORKS FOR THE GOVERNMENT (kinda). He believes that he is supposed to trust G.U.N because they are giving th illusion of wanting to help, when in reality they just want to contain Shadow, just like they wanted to contain Sonic, Tails, and Knuckles aka for power, and so they don't blow up their whole controlling shit.

Sonic isn't doing it out of malicious intent, he genuinely says that he wants to just talk to Shadow, but Shadow refuses to believe him BECAUSE he hopped out of a chopper owned by G.U.N and because of this Sonic, IMMEDIATELY goes "Yeah, no we need more information from gun before we do anymore shit for them" LET THE CHILD LEARN.

not trying to hate but why is it when you search any sonic character on tumblr you will only find ships, what if i wanted art of shadow the hedgehog eating from kfc, instead of kissing sonic. what if amy rose went surfing instead of kissing sonic. what if blaze was trying to cook but couldnt because she doesnt know how, instead of kissing. what if instead of everybody kissing eachother we all had a barbecue and went swimming. would that be so bad. where is the daily activity friendship art. there is enough of the ship art we do not need more. same thing with persona. actually tumblr is the worst with this i never have that problem on pinterest, theres always an even amount of both fanarts

idw sonic is not a huge departure from the original character 🤷🏻 quite the opposite: he is very much still faithful to his ways

all ian flynn did was make sonic more complex: expand upon his philosophy and beliefs and that can be understood if you actually read the comic carefully

Went ahead and read this post. And laughed a little, ngl.

It's basically a defense post for shipping Sonic with human girls, and a hate post towards Sonamy/Sonally shippers. Called 'em all "fanbrats." Immediate generalization, assuming all of us are the same.

I'm a Sonamy shipper, not Sonally. Why I don't ship Sonally? All I've seen of Sally -- while she's generally a good person -- she's very controlling, especially of Sonic himself. She doesn't like Sonic for who he is; she's constantly trying to make him more serious and their personalities clash an awful lot. But does that mean I hate on and judge Sonally shippers? No. It's just a ship with fictional characters, peeps. Lighten up. I don't get triggered if I see others making art for them and stuff. I just move on because it's not for me.

Ah, yeah, Amy's worse qualities HAVEN'T disappeared? Sorry, could someone remind me of a time during the IDW comics, during Frontiers, during MOSTH, when Amy was making Sonic uncomfortable with stalker-esque behavior? Right. There wasn't any. It's a little something called character development and maturity. Happens as one grows older.

And this isn't the first time I've seen people complain that they're turning Amy into Sally 2.0. Actually, they're not. Amy Rose has a heart for people that Sally never did. In IDW, Amy took over the Resistance and changed it into the Restoration because Knuckles disbanded it on a whim, and she couldn't bear to see so many people displaced and in trouble. Because she's got that heart and LOVE for people. That passion.

Amy loves Sonic exactly for who he is. (I've talked a little about this before but will gladly elaborate for those who refuse to see.) She outright said to him, "I can't change you. I don't want to change you."

She loves that he's an adventurer. She loves that he has a heart for people like she does as well. She loves everything about him -- through anything.

Another person claimed they didn't ship Sonamy because "Amy only loves the hero facade Sonic puts on." Sorry, remember that episode in Sonic X where it showed Amy was well aware of Sonic's dislike/fear of water, and instead of getting angry or disappointed with him, she made him a good luck charm bracelet to make him feel better? Or that time when she scolded Knuckles for making fun of said fear? Or when he was badly electrocuted to the point of unconsciousness and she stepped up to take care of him? Or when she dove into a giant mass of water after him, knowing she might not be able to save him but not wanting him to be alone? I could go on and on.

That love of hers, that passion, is also for people in general (he's just #1 in her heart, according to Sega). In Frontiers, she showed concern for him when he appeared to be struggling. She shared her desires to share her love with the world, even if it meant taking them apart, and he encouraged her to do so, adding that he wanted to hear all about it when she got back.

Pardon us for feeling like Sonamy is more canon after Frontiers. I'd like to see YOU come up with a platonic explanation for "Wish we were sharing an umbrella, Amy," and "Amy, I should've made up my mind sooner."

Also, it's pretty unlikely Amy is still 12. They stopped confirming their ages years ago. With how much has been happening, I wouldn't be surprised if they're all aged up several years.

"Thinking we know better than Sega themselves." Bruh, "Sega themselves" have confirmed time and time again that Sonic has feelings for Amy. The only reason (besides the mandates lol) he hasn't confessed to her is because

Sonic isn't good at dealing with feelings

Sonic isn't ready for a relationship at this point in his life/doesn't need one

Sonic loves Amy, and Amy loves Sonic. But they're both aware that Sonic doesn't want a relationship for the time being, so they're fine being friends.

Pardon the rant, lol. And jsyk, this isn't necessarily a persuasive speech. If this convinced you to ship Sonamy, cool! If it didn't, I don't care. Again, these are just ships with fictional characters. I have fun with them. I don't get outraged if people don't ship what I do. If you don't like it, move past this post and keep scrolling. See if I care. 😂

So recently I reblogged one post about Tails' birthday, but I wrote something in tags. But to be honest I kinda want to make an actual post about it and share it with the people, because I think it's funny. So here we are- So when I was a kid, don't remember how old I was, but old enough to browse the internet even though my parents shouldn't let me, I had this HUGE hyperfixation on Tails from Sonic The Hedgehog. But thing is, I didn't play any official Sonic games. They just weren't available for me back then and I didn't have the money to buy them on my own. So I played those web games like Ultimate Flash Sonic or other games like that. But the one that stuck with me most was Tails' Nightmare.

Tails looked SO COOL in this game. And the fact that the game had this creepy vibe and Tails Doll was there, was even cooler for kiddo me. So let's just say I wasn't really hyperfixated on real Tails, but some kind of cool fanon Tails. And well yeah, I did see some clips from Sonic X, but mainly that one episode where Shadow chases after Tails and Cosmo, but I didn't really see any full episodes. So what's the funny thing about it? Through my whole childhood hyperfixation on Tails, I was totally convinced that Tails was a girl. What's even funnier? I was totally aware of Cosmo and I just thought that they were lesbians- Which honestly is so funny to me, because my experience is perfect when someone is trying to convince people that "children are so confused when it comes to lgbt and same-sex relationships". NO THEY AREN'T. That 9 year old me absolutely didn't give a fuck. I didn't even think about this! I didn't even know the word "lesbian". I was just like, OH YEAH THEY LIKE EACH OTHER. And didn't question shit. I remember that once I actually had this huge fight in the comments under one of those games. I was basically arguing with people that "Tails is a girl and y'all stupid". And oh boy, there were so many kids arguing with me there. It was a loooong argument. And then I found first episode of Sonic X in my native language and I realized that Tails is in fact, a boy. And I was devastated lmaooooo I remember going back to this argument and writing long ass apology to everyone that "now I know the truth" and basically I acted like my life has ended and nothing had a point anymore and play Pain by Three Days Grace. Not sure why I reacted like that, but I think it was because there weren't many girl characters that I liked or could relate to or thought that are simply cool. And I saw Tails in Tails' Nightmare and the artstyle made me think that Tails was a girl and I thought that I finally found a cool girl character. Only to taste that bitter disappointment xD

Don't rain on their parade, giggle, people are allowed to like other versions of the same character, people are indeed allowed to like other versions of the same character, there's nothing wrong with being wrong, let them be. 😤����

Gosh I hate when Canon media completely makes a character act so out of character that the show is only allowed to happen with that version of the character, cause I swear to God, they gave him bellow room temperature IQ for no reason and the worst part is that the rules of the show don't allow you to change the main character otherwise THE WHOLE THING is impossible to happen without straight up rewriting the rules of the show altogether.

Why must writers write themselves into a corner for no reason????

So I was trying to find some random Sonic OCs off Google to draw today because, man, art block killing me. I would like to prefece that I, myself, have Sonic OCs.

(This is all old art, except for my sonic.exe oc, but alas)

I think they're fun and a good way to express your creativity, whether that's writing them to date a character that you like or to be the most popular/powerfulest person EVER.

But with my not very deep dive into the 3 page of Google, I realized that even the really well draw or intriguing OCs are "cringe" and "Mary Sues".

With this, the notion comes that OCs are inherently cringe and not worth making unless you make them the most boring and unspecial person ever. Like: "This is my Sonic oc, Joe the cat. He works at a desk job, and he likes coffee." Making just your average Joe can be fun, but the thought that ALL OCs have to be fucking boring is dumb.

This thought is everywhere. You scroll through Google for 30 seconds, and you see articles about sonic OCs being a sickness, like this article from the medium. Like the drawing that a 10 y/o posted on deviant art about their green sonic will irreparably damage art.

This mindset actually hurts art in the long run. If you get told over and over again that the self insert you make is cringe and you should never draw again then, inevitably, you're going to stop drawing.

I was someone actually who thought for a very long time that my OCs shouldn't be special, or have super cool powers, or even have heterocromia. A good lot of my original characters were boring because I was worried about making a Mary Sue (Thanks CyberSans). It's actually a very deliberate choice that my self-insert/persona, Mephy, cringe.

Yes, I took things from jjba and Sonic to make this weird combo of Mephiles, Diego, jouta, and myself. I did this to push myself to make something "cringe," and anytime I think about removing his tail, I remember why I gave him one.

After I disregarded being seen as cringe, did I start to like designing characters. Just the want to make something I like without being worried if it's cringe or not. I think the freedom to make things like this is very important for young artists (or just artists in general). It's very liberating.

I took the making things purposefully cringe into my TF2 OCs. I gave them on the noise names, and I gave them back stories that were edgy. I enjoyed it. It made me happy.

With the acceptance of being seen as weird, I almost forgot what things were "cringe." I've just been seeing so many people happily making sonadow fan kids that I forgot people think that's cringe. I forgot that edgy OCs is cringe. I forgot that just being into something odd is cringe, and that makes me sad. I honestly thought that we got past thinking that darkspine the evil hedgehog (original character, do not steal) is cringe.

It's just sad. These OCs are cool. And yes, there are sonic OCs that aren't seen as cringe, like Ian Jr, S.N.T., or Trevor the hedgehog, but those are the exceptions. When was the last time you heard something say that Rosechu was their favorite OC? That's right, you haven't because sonichu is very much "cringe" (and don't bring up that Chris-chan did some fucked up shit, y'all didn't like she before she went to jail or did any of that fucked up stuff.) Why can't someone just make someone weird?

Concussion: Stop seeing things as cringe, and cringe culture is NOT dead until we kill it ourselves.

Anyway, I think I have written enough, and my English teacher would say that this is an emotional rant and that I need to rewrite like half of this. I think one of her exact words on a paper I wrote was "zack, this sentence makes me want to smear poop in my hair."

I just finished Sonic Prime and I like the concept but the rules of the different worlds in the shatter space are kinda underwhelming as well as the Chaos Council; Sonic's character seems to be in brand and I like Nine as a villain, but how Shadow was written and used in this series I feel that his character has no real reason to be in this series like bro was there for like 3 episodes and 10 minutes of screentime for 3 seasons 😭 I also thought the Council was scrappy but alright for a kids show like the stereotypes on each of the eggman was supposed to be comical I guess but for me, just wasn't the greatest especially when it came to the baby and Dr. Don't. However, I liked Sonics character and the situation between him and Nine and an alternate Tails being a villain, betraying Sonic and being a power hungry child only wanting support and love only to be denied that in New York City without Sonic in that timeline was definitely a good villain arc for him. Idk I was really expecting more shadow in this series and was confused on why Rogue was there in these timelines yet other sonics and shadows weren't. All in all, I think the show was mediocre and is worth watching but not like obsessing over

What I'm abt to go on about is a kinda summarization and conclusion I came to while having this convo with my friend instead of jsut a copy and paste like most of these have been and will be When I was watching the Sonic movies (I'm not fully done with the third, but yknow I know enough) I came to an interesting thought that definitely confused me at first It's the fact that I can see every version of Sonadow being like cute and I can ship them, EXCEPT for Movie Sonadow, but I can totally see movie Sonamy and when talking with my friend about it I think I found out why. A big part of the Sonic movies so far have been very centered in Sonic being a child, and while I do believe that Shadow is also around the same age psychologically atleast because of him being in the tube and completely unconscious for the 50 years, I feel like it's because Shadow and Sonic's maturity is too far off for me to be able to see them in any romantic fashion. But the reason I think I can still see Sonamy is because from the small clip we do see of Amy, she also seems to have that childlike kind of whimsy even with her being able to take out the Metal Sonic's so easily. She, like Sonic, has her adolescence still and it's still a key part of her.

My biggest pet peeve in Sonic so far in which is mostly bc I just watched the sonic 3 movie and Sonic is like “why do you look like me?” And shadows like “no you look like me!” BUT THEY LITERALLY DONT!! Literally the only thing that makes you look alike is the fact they are both HEDGEHOGS! Therefore they have some similar genetic characteristics like nose, BUT THATS IT!! IM TIRED OF THIS “they look the same” NONSENSE THEY DONT. Anyway hope you all are having a good day.
