Thinking about Episode 39 of Sonic X which is mostly just Chaotix shenanigans but then has that really deep scene between Sonic and Eggman where Eggman admits he sometimes wonders what’s the point of being evil…

how does Espio react when Charmy tells him he needs to be more like Silver or Shadow (probably when Espio is being responsible and telling Charmy to eat his veggies and go to bed)
Oh, he'd be deeply offended. Because Charmy's statements probably don't keep themselves to "You should be more like Silver or Shadow"; they are more like "You should be less boring, like Silver and Shadow" or "Silver and Shadow would never tell me that I need to go to bed because they're cool, unlike you". And considering Espio is described as quite full of himself and a bit smug, I can envision this will be a topic of unsolvable discord in their household. (Also now I am thinking of Sonic X where in Japanese, Espio uses the "I am older than you" argument to argue why he has more right to introduce himself than Charmy, if I am not mistaken. In other words, childish "did not, did so" arguing. XD) So Espio generally vows to not let it get to him and deem himself the more mature on between him and Charmy... and yet he gets dragged up into defending his honour every single time anyway. So yeah, it's a drama, and Espio is very miffed about it!

Enkidu: Tools need not the northern wind or the sun

But eventually, Punch and King Gilgamesh knew that couldn't last forever. In the end, he will be alone.

Not different in Sonic X Episode 39 how Sonic felt.
Tumblr media
They accept the truth in this world or death or the cycle of rebirth and death. They can't accept the way that should be because they're not in that part and not humans. They're like stars that they will be the same.(#the shining stars who give hope) Even when the light vanishes into the darkness, they remain the same. That's why at first they didn't want to make a relationship with anyone. But they didn't understand why they needed someone by their side to guide them. Many planets still receive the light from those stars that shine so brightly. But because without planets, there would be nothing to see just like the sun and the moon, we wouldn't be able to see each other and the beauty of this earth without light.
Peter: When you need a reason to keep going, I'll remind you. And if you want to be the star in the sky. I can be your "earth"
That's the reason behind why King Gilgamesh never abandoned the earth. And....Sonic, Punch and King Gilgamesh are the stars and they(the stars) need a place for them, Syaoran, Peter and Danny are the earth.
Journal for the History of Astronomy: Source
Some concepts in the history of astronomy have seriously affected the development of science and culture in many regions. The concept of zodiac is one of them. The zodiac as a band of constellations, within which visible motions of the Moon and planets occur, played an important role in the astronomy of ancient Mesopotamia, ancient Greece, and countries of Islam. The ideas associated with the zodiac had not only astronomical but also astrological and religious significance. The history of Mesopotamian zodiac is of particular importance, since it had a direct impact on the formation of ideas about the zodiac in ancient Greece and in Islamic countries, and through them in Europe.
The history of the Mesopotamian zodiac is a long and carefully studied issue.1 It is subdivided into two key problems closely related to each other: (1) the discovery of the band of zodiacal constellations through which the Sun, Moon, and five planets move, and (2) the division of the zodiacal band into 12 equal parts to form the so called uniform zodiac used in mathematical astronomy. Sources related to the history of zodiac are cuneiform texts of various types (not only astronomical), dated mainly from the first millennium BC. This article will investigate just one aspect of the zodiac history—the question of when and how a system of 12 zodiac constellations was developed in Mesopotamia. We also set the task of identifying traces of this system directly in cuneiform sources. Surprisingly, in the existing historical and scientific literature this question has not been studied yet. But when examined in detail on the basis of authentic sources, the answer to this question might appear to be not so simple and not so obvious.

The three main astral symbols represented on the kudurrus: a) crescent; b) sundisk; c) star.
Tumblr media
Examples of patterns represented on the kudurrus reliefs: a) linear pattern; b) 'triangular shape' pattern.
As you can see From: The Astral Family in Kassite Kudurrus Reliefs:: Iconographical and Iconological Study of Sîn, Šamaš and Ištar Astral Representations. These three symbols will be important and hint at the future.
P.S. Don't think anything romantic yet!

Are the ArchieSonic comics actually an 80's/90's syndicated cartoon?
Welcome back to my look at the ArchieSonic comic series, and how it shared a lot of the same story tropes as a typical ‘80’s or ‘90’s syndicated cartoon.
Episode 8: Now they're giant!
Our first example today comes from the Knuckles Chaotix special! If you’ve played the game, then you probably won’t be surprised by what happens:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Yup. Metal Sonic Kai, also known as “O lord he comin’!” But those of you who played the game might be surprised at how this is resolved in the comic:
Tumblr media
Yup, Knuckles gets big too! Why? Because Ken Penders, that’s why.
For our next example we’re going back to Sonic Super Special #12, which had a secondary story called, “Zone Wars: Giant Robotno.” Sonic gets recruited by Zonic the Zone Cop (long story) to help an alternate world that’s in peril.
Tumblr media
Sonic finds himself in a dimension where the local Eggman is actually a good-hearted scientist called Dr. Kintobor. Unfortunately he was experimenting with splitting a Chaos Emerald on a distant island, resulting in the radiation mutating the “wildlife” - Sonic’s friends in this dimension - into kaijus.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Sonic uses a giant robot to fight them off as he’s trying to get the split Chaos Emerald back, but accidentally kills his alternate-world father in the process. Big oof.
Tumblr media
Also in the category of “Now they’re giant,” I present: Titan Tails.
Tumblr media
…I will not be answering any questions regarding Titan Tails at this time.
Woof, that was a lot of messed up stuff. Maybe the Sonic X comics will give us something a little less dramatic? Oh yes, here we go. Sonic X #6 featured a story where Eggman tried to take over the world with an army of dark chao.
Tumblr media
But as we all know, if you mess with the Chao then a certain God of destruction is going to have something to say about it. This time though he uses the positive energies of the Chaos Emeralds to become a very different Perfect Chaos.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Oh, and we of course have to mention the more traditional form of Perfect Chaos too, as it certainly falls under the category of suddenly becoming a giant.
Tumblr media
Oh, and apparently there is one other giant story from Sonic X. Issue #39 featured the evil supervillain group “S.O.N.I.C.X” turned Vector the Crocodile into a kaiju.
Tumblr media
…and apparently he was defeated by a giant Bokkun?!
Tumblr media
What even was this comic?!
Whew, that was a lot. And in some instances, it was a lot. Hopefully tomorrow’s post will be more lighthearted. What is the next episode, anyway? Let’s see… ahhh. “Episode 9: Fall in love at first sight! Oh wait, turns out she’s evil.” …oh. Well, I’m sure you all know where this one is going. 😛
Thanks for reading, everyone! Did I miss any other examples of anyone suddenly becoming giant? Drop me a comment and let me know!

EAD: Perry’s apparently 4 through most of the series, but that’s 4 in platypus years, which equals about 19 in human years. And there’s an episode where Doof’s age is stated as being 47. So, 47-19=28 years between them.
3 years. Easy. Jane’s born in 1969, and Cho’s born in 1972.
Jared was born in '89, and Shaun was born in '92: 3 years.
Both born in 1980, there’s only a 3-month age gap.
In a 2013 episode, Marcus’ brother Andre appears. Andre is stated to be both 28 and “three years older”. Locke, on the other hand, is shown to specifically be born in 1973, which would make him 40 in the same episode. 28-3=25; 40-25=15 years difference between them.
Meg is 28, in her final year of college, and Marta is either 29 or 30. A 1-2 year difference.
Stone is still pretty young, and he’s about 30 in the first film, whereas Robotnik is implied to be about 50… so a 20-year age gap.
Silas Weir Mitchell claims his role as Monroe is depicted as age 37-39 in series 01. Nick, on the other hand, has a clear birthyear in 1982 making him 29 in series 01: a 7-9 year difference.
Incorrect Quotes:
Heinz: Hey Perry, listen, corporate makes us do this every year, but this is just a little manager evaluation form. You just fill it out, let them know how I'm doing, you know?
Perry: Alright! Uh, "Is your manager manipulative?"
Heinz: I'd say "No" to that if I were you.
Jane: It's not our fault!
Cho: Yeah, but... Come on, the least we can do it talk to them.
Jane: No, the least we could do is nothing!
Shaun: Silence is golden.
Jared: Duct tape is silver.
Sheldon: You have any sunscreen?
Leonard: You can't get a sunburn from a bonfire—
Sheldon: It's for my marshmallow
Marcus: You’re alive.
Locke: No need to sound so disappointed.
Marta: Remember what I told you.
Meg: Don’t be a cunt.
Stone: Where are you going?
Robotnik: Hell, eventually.
Monroe: You look mentally ill.
Nick: I am. Let’s go.
Subship(s): Phinerb [Phineas x Ferb]; Vanella [Vanessa x Isabella]; Lisburn [Teresa x Walter], Kimmer [Kim x Summer]; Howraj [Howard x Raj]

I finished off the Sonic X Adventure 2 adaptation, episode 39 would be next. But I’m declaring another hiatus so I can play Frontiers lol and also because my work/life balance sucks. Anyway I don’t really know if I have much to say that I kind of haven’t already said about this arc. It’s a pretty bad adaptation of SA2 and pretty much every single change or addition it has is for the worse - nothing about the shift in mediums benefited the story at all and the newly introduced subplot about Scarlet Garcia and Chris’ teacher Stewart running around interviewing people from the ARK incident is painfully slow and really not a good way to learn this information.
But hey, they play Live and Learn at the end. That’s something, right?

Every movie of 2022 I’ve seen till  3/31/2023 ranked best to worst
1. Everything Everywhere All at Once- A Masterpiece. So creative and interesting. It had me glued to the screen.
2. Guillermo Del Toro's Pinnocchio- Pinnocchio been told many times before but this somehow brought a great retelling of it.
3. Tar- In my opinion has the best performance of the year.
4. The Northman- This is my favorite Robert Eggers film so far.
5. The Banshees of Inisherin- Really liked it but felt like something was missing and I don't know what.
6. Puss in Boots: The Last Wish- Wasn't a masterpiece as people say but still a lot of fun.
7. Bones and All- Surprised this made the list so high but it was probably the best "horror" film of the year.
8. The Batman- Best Portrayal of Batman but a bit too long and slow.
9. Babylon- Best scene of the year probably.
10. Avatar: The Way of Water- I enjoyed it way more than I thought but it still had problems.
11. Scream- 2nd best Scream. But still not close to the original but A for effort.
12. Black Panther: Wakanda Forever- The lead was the problem but mostly everything else was fine.
13. The Whale- Acting performance is great but a bit cheesey for me.
14. Turning Red- Fun family film. Nothing special
15. White Noise- It's weird but I really liked some of it and some not so much.
16. Hustle- A basic sports story but doesn't make it bad.
17. Thor: Love and Thunder- I'm surprised I liked this more than most people but I thought it was funny and fun.
18. Jackass Forever- Not as good as the others but is expected cause of their age.
19. Glass Onion- A bit stupid but I think that's the point? Still a lot of fun scenes.
20. Prey- I wanted to love this but was a bit bored.
21. Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness- I was so hyped for this and so disappointed. Still not bad though.
22. Men- Freaky movie. A bit too freaky for me.
23. The Son- Suprised by the bad reviews. I thought this was fine.
24. The Bob's Burgers Movie- Just felt like another episode instead of a big epic movie.
25. Lightyear- Basic as basic can be and they ruin a character.
26. Wendell and Wild- Wanted to love this but the characters were too bland.
27. Chip ’n Dale: Rescue Rangers- Funny at the start but gets old after a while.
28. Clerks 3- Tried to be too emotional instead of funny.
29. The Greatest Beer Run Ever- It's fine but I barely remember it.
30. Woooooooo! Becoming Ric Flair- If you seen any Flair doc then this is pretty much what you've seen.
31. Batman and Superman: Battle of the Super Sons- Robin was better than I thought but another forgettable DC animated film.
32. Barbarian- Comedy horror or serious horror. Pick one cause this didn't work for me.
33. X- Basic horror. Nothing new or special.
34. Nope- So dissappointing. Hated most of the characters and felt the thing in the sky was dissappointing.
35. Fresh- Going in blind as possible might help but the stupid poster spoils it.
36. Black Adam- So many characters wasted to feed The Rock ego.
37. Sonic the Hedgehog 2- Better than the first I guess but still a crappy adaptation.
38. Morbius- I didn't hate this as much as others but it was still pretty crappy.
39. Teen Titans Go! & DC Super Hero Girls: Mayhem in the Multiverse- The Super Hero Girls are boring and not enough Multiverse.
40. Smile- Thought it would be a fun horror but I felt it was trying too hard to have a message then to have fun with the silly plot.
41. Texas Chainsaw Massacre- Just stop. You're almost ruining the first which was great.

On Sonic's Emotional Characterization
Sonic X Episode 39 - Sonic and Eggman solo conversation
So, I’ve finally gotten around to watching the original Japanese cut of Sonic X after being raised on the English dub, and I know I’m not the first to say that the original is superior to any other version. I was pretty certain I felt this way for a while into watching, but the above scene solidified this opinion.
Tumblr media
This scene in its intended state is so important to the show as it, for the first clear and objective time thus far, reminds you that Sonic’s still a kid despite having the world on his shoulders.
Tumblr media
It also showcases that Eggman is an extremely complex villain with boundaries and limits that he will never violate, but that’s not the point I want make right now.
Tumblr media
Right now, I want to focus on Sonic’s feelings, because (and this is no secret) Sonic Team used this show to show that Sonic has them – we’re just almost never allowed to see them.
Tumblr media
Sonic enjoys the genuine quality time the current adventure forces him to have with his long-time friends – time he normally wouldn’t take out daily because he’s not one to adorn such vulnerability. He’s the kind of person who takes what he gets without impeding his own lifestyle or going out of his way, which works for him because he knows he gets to see his friends again but having everyone live under the same roof and bond on a level never reached before has clearly affected him in a positive way. Once they return home, our core group will go back to their normal lives and that closeness won’t be so easily accessible – in a way, Sonic will be forced to face his emotions more directly and admit to himself just how much his friends mean to him (a thought that scares him because of the life they all live, and how high the stakes are).
The other half of this idea are Sonic’s new human friends, especially Chris, who Sonic knows he’ll never see again once their worlds divide. The Thorndyke and Co. hospitality is heartwarming and tender, which anyone would likely enjoy and appreciate, but also extremely practical as Chuck is intelligent and insightful, Ella and Tanaka are supportive and encouraging, and Chris is decisive and caring. Despite his recklessness and tendency to cause trouble, Chris saves Sonic’s life multiple times because he’s so quick and willing to act.
Allow me to also outline how immensely different Chris’s character is in the original cut. He’s less whiney, more level-headed, and experiences a lot more growth as a character and showcases a lot of internal moral turmoil – he’s no longer a plot device to give Sonic grief (his Japanese voice actor, alone, helps a lot). Chris’s big moments in the show (appealing to Shadow in the SA2 arc, breaking free from Eggman’s trap to take the Chaos Emeralds away from the Egg Fort II) actually feel natural and true to his character because he has a lot more of these moments on a smaller scale in the original cut (emotional dialogue is significantly changed or outright removed in the English dub). The bond between Chris and Sonic, here, is genuine and more realistic because of this improved characterization. The adoration and platonic love and care between these characters actually have ample time to develop because Chris’s natural dialogue gives his character and this dynamic more time to shine. I come to bat for Chris because Sonic’s justifiable connection to him is extremely important.
Tumblr media
The reason that Eggman confronts Sonic on this front is that he recognizes the bond Sonic’s formed with Chris and his other friends, Sonic’s overall emotional immaturity, and the fact that preparing to take action now will save Sonic, his friends, and both dimensions a lot of grief in the long run. You can argue that this entire encounter is undone by the next episode, where Eggman’s moon repairs turn out to be a plot to trick everyone into adoring him, but I’d argue that Eggman could have bluffed his way through this conversation without commenting on the fact that they need to return home (hell, that’s what the English dub does, and it works well enough as an excuse). In fact, Eggman didn’t even need to have this conversation, period, but he does, and this is why.
Tumblr media
I’m compelled to share these thoughts because I’ve seen a lot of contention lately around Sonic’s characterization - namely the fact that Sonic is intended to be an “emotionally awkward, shy, and reserved” character (in main-line canon or otherwise). I’ve seen this commentary mostly in the IDW-sphere, where Sonic (per SEGA direction) is the nicest he’s ever been – to a fault, by design – and where he’s displayed a “softer” relationship with Amy. These factors, I’ve seen argued, make IDW and Sonic X (regardless of the cut) inauthentic characterizations of Sonic. I, however, find this entirely unfair.
As confident and collected of a character as Sonic is, he has always been a character who feels so, so, so immensely. What recent English game scripts butcher and what a lot of people seem to miss outright is that Sonic is highly emotional but doesn’t have the emotional maturity to comfortably process or showcase his more negative (anger, sadness, fear) and complex (romantic love, admiration) emotions. He knows they’re there, but usually refuses to address them. We see signs of these feelings in games and external media, but – again, by design – Sonic suppresses those feelings to focus on what he loves - his speed, his freedom, world peace, and his friends.
Something else important to note is that Sonic’s emotional intelligence is unparalleled to anyone else’s in the series (besides, maybe, Amy, Rouge, or even Eggman). Sonic has proved consistently his ability to diagnose emotions in others and will address his own complex emotions to empathize only when it will directly benefit someone else. Sonic’s advice to Merlina at the end of Black Knight is a wonderful example of this; other examples include Sonic’s insight on Chaos’ emotions in the final story of SA1, IDW issue 1 where he recognizes Tails’ hesitance, Sonic’s willingness to support Chris through his meltdown near the end of Sonic X season two (where they run away for some time before Sonic returns home), and when Sonic hones in on Rouge, who is portrayed as being impacted the most by Shadow’s existence and character, at the end of SA2 to comfort her and give her Shadow’s ring.
In fact, SA2’s ending also showcases Sonic’s tendency to focus less on himself (especially in front of others) when Amy checks in on him while he’s reflecting on his own; his immediate response is to suppress.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Sonic is a fifteen-year-old with the responsibility of the world’s peace and his found family’s happiness on his shoulders. He bears that burden alone and it clearly affects him, but he’s not at a point in his life where he’s ready to confront his heart. He just knows that it’s big, that it’s in the right place, and that it’ll be there for him when he’s ready. Whether that’s Sonic’s healthiest option can be debated, and I’d argue that he should let the people he wants to be closer to him in (Amy is a strong example, but that’s another essay that’s been done to death – perhaps another time), but the fact that he’s an emotional and reserved character is not.
TL;DR - please watch Japanese Sonic X. It’s so much better. Also, Sonic is a softie, confirmed.
I wrote a sequel to this topic discussing where Sonic's emotional troubles come from if you're ready for another novella.

Note
oh yeah, about characters who haven't gotten the animation treatment, cream (plus vanilla iirc) and the chaotix were in sonic x so they're fortunately not on that list just fyi
That is indeed true, they got lucky in that way. But I think what helped here is that Sonic X permitted itself to have the 'extended' extended cast in it, because its format simply allowed for such things. The episode the Chaotix and Vanilla got introduced in (I believe number 39) was a fun little downtime episode right after the SA2 adaptation that also formed a bridge to Eggman turning half of the moon into metal iirc. I think in that way, the creators had 'room' to put in characters that weren't part of the main group but still part of the Sonic cast, and then also have them show up only once, if that makes sense. Unfortunately neither Silver nor Blaze existed at the time Sonic X ran, so they sadly weren't able to get the same. But for those two, I actually think they would have suffered from the fact they are not comic relief characters! The Chaotix could handle one episode by themselves due to their shenanigans that overall had little bearing on the plot except reuniting Cream and Vanilla, whereas Silver and Blaze's backstories and overall goals are far grander and more-encompassing. Introducing them in one throwaway episode that doesn't have much plot importance simply would not have worked to begin with, I think.
As for the differences between Sonic X and our current main Sonic show, Sonic Prime, I cannot say anything due to not watching the latter, but to me it feels like it's got an entirely different format? As in, one that does not allow for characters that are not part of the main cast to take over for most of an episode. Would be difficult anyway, since their world is destroyed and all😅 So in that way, I can understand why Prime keeps its focus on the various Shatterverses and the established group of Sonic's friends in each, instead of introducing new characters for one downtime episode on the fly and then not doing anything else with them. I myself do find that a bit unfortunate, but I can see logic behind it.

Please help - what’s the episode of Sonic X where Sonic finds Eggman hanging out at the top of a mountain, sitting on the ground, and they have a brief and calm conversation? I want to see what they were talking about…
Episode 39. It's the one that first showed the Chaotix.

Yo no hate on Jason but sometimes in Sonic X when he talks, his Sonic voice sounds like it belongs in a commercial.
Like specifically, I’m watching episode 39, and the way he says “I’m Sonic the Kidnapper” literally sounds like an advertisement and I don’t know how to explain that, it just does.
