this needs to be addressed because this annoyed me. i hate when people say: "classic horror films suck because they're not scary." i need to put this in perspective. let's take a silent horror film for one; nosferatu might not be frightening to modern watchers because it wasn't made for this generation or generations in the 80s either, so you won't find it scary because they're relying on tactics that will terrify the audiences who lived in the 20s. I mean they didn’t have talking in films yet so they had to rely on other things.
you also have to take in account that the internet did not exist to these people, so yea a lot of people today have seen some gory things and are desensitized to some of the horror shown in these classic horror films, that doesn't make it a bad horror film that you were not terrified by it. not to mention horror is subjective anyways.
even further back, house of the devil is 1000% not scary to anyone today, but in the 1890s all this technology advancing was terrifying to them. like the use of appearing and disappearing on screen is very simple to do nowadays and some people won't find it scary, but for people in that era it was fucking terrifying because this technology didn’t exist out in the public so freely.
the exorcist, I’ve come to seen that to modern day watchers don’t find it scary (I’m not saying everybody but there’s a new influx people who are saying this stuff and I mean a lot of people) , but they never had people from the 2000s-2020s in mind when they were making the film. they weren't saying "ooh we need to make sure it's scary to people in the future." no they knew their audiences in the 70s was either overly religious or not religious whatsoever and a movie using religion as a form of terror, got people in those seats.
people that say "horror movie classics are terrible because they're not scary," bother the hell out of me. horror is all about it’s context!

do you think tim drake is the 2nd best detective after bruce wayne? i always thought he was good, but wouldn't there be better options in the family of bats and out?
gosh i am REALLY the wrong person to ask about tim unfortunately.. my batfam blindspot (🫣) short answer is I have no clue. long answer is i think you run into some trouble bc tim IS a very good detective and that’s a big part of his character however people nowadays tend to take one character trait someone has and blow it up to be like The Most Impotant Thing about them yknow. and i think ppl do this with tim + detectoring. you have to acknowledge that every member of the batfam is a very abnormally skilled detective, bc it’s like. their thing you know. tim is not the only smart robin. but there are certainly other crazy good detectives out there, i mean the questions exist?? but idk. how would you even classify who The Best is. is that quantifiable or measurable at all. does it matter. i don’t know. he’s a very good detective certainly but i think there’s wiggle room you can use to argue in any direction

it's so fascinating to me how little there is to work with if you want to go with the (most likely) intended reading of yashiro as a cis man. if you ignore what other characters are saying, all the instances of "bitch" being thrown at him, men comparing him to a woman as an insult, and just focus on his own feelings regarding his gender and masculinity, there's… nothing really? the few times when he explicitly says that he's not a woman go hand in hand with "therefore it's okay to hurt and abuse me, to be rough with me, to want to leave me, etc etc". the way he talks about men usually reads as "men and me" with a level of separation there. all the "what type of women do you like? is this how it is with women? are you gentle with women? women women women?" there's no attachment to being a man, not that i can see at least, so reading saezuru through the lenses of sexuality and gender rather than just sexuality is this weird experience of "i know what you want me to think, but thank you for leaving so much room for the other interpretation"

Idk hot take for a Saturday morning, but maybe people shouldn’t be SO quick to switch to a mentality of: “well I’m not voting at all” about American politics in regards to the Israeli/Palestinian conflict/genocide just bc America has had its dick in those affairs LONG BEFORE fucking Biden Presidecy and people are seemingly just NOW feeling publically vocally outraged about it bc it’s in the forefront news (as you should be), but maybe also let’s use our fucking brains for a moment if you are American:
we should, and can easily, also still focus on that which is in our own backyard, if you don’t vote fucking blue, because green/third parties are not actually viable in the deeply established two party system we have had for CENTURIES, we get fucking DeSantis or some other horrible Fascist Republican and then America is going to have its own genocide against LGBTQ+ people, fascism goes up, continued attacks against drag/immigrants/etc.
You also know damn well that any Republican, If one were president, would be doing the same fucking thing of providing aid to Israel, so I guess personally I’m just confused as to why everyone is surprised biden is doing the same.
You can and should support a free Palestine, and hold contempt for Israel and condemn their actions, AND also know that voting blue is Americas literal only chancE RIGHT CURRENTLY NOW this upcoming year, to remain somewhat of a democracy instead of a ChristoFascist regime, especially with Biden being one of the ONLY blue candidates like… our hands are TIED
Like YEAH it’s gonna fucking suck to vote for Biden but like you also gotta fucking Buck up sometimes and do things you don’t particularly WANT to do. It’s called duality and compromising in life and sometimes it’s fucking unavoidable.
But idk what the fuck do I know 🤪 I’m just a girl who thinks maybe you shouldn’t just fucking give up one of your only recognized rights in America just because some actions you can’t control from a crusty old moderate blue white man in a country whose affairs are more complicated than your messiest situationship is upsetting (rightfully so, I might add) you

Maybe misandry is real bc I love PB but hate winter king. Like what he did to PB isn’t cool or sexy like it would’ve been if the roles were reversed; he’s just another whiny annoying man who can’t deal with fucking anything

people that seem to pride themselves on hating (insert thing) will never not perplex me. you could spend all this time that you spend talking in circles about shit you don't like talking about... literally anything else.
i don't know maybe i'm just a chronic Enjoyer Of Things but like. sitting around bitching about medias you don't like is so soul-sucking, especially when every time you do so you're just saying the same thing over and over again.
there's medias i dislike don't get me wrong, and i talk about disliking them from time to time, but i don't go out of my way to talk about it every other day- because like genuinely who gives a shit. all ranting constantly is doing for you is getting your blood pressure up and making you miserable. stop it. just don't interact with it. you'll feel better.

Also mutuals i need your opinion/advice on something because i really dont know what to do. So a classmate/friend needed faux leather fabric for her blazer and at the start of the semester i told her i had some laying around that she could use so i gave it to her, specifically to use for this project. But she hasnt been to class in weeks and hasnt actually worked on the project (hasnt even made a mock-up) so she didnt use the fabric, and actually since i gave it to her i regret it bc why did i give that to her FOR FREE ??? and she's not been very nice lately and just acting weird so i want the fabric back. And i've talked about it with my other classmates and they all said i should just take it back and tell her that i took it back bc she didnt use it. So i took it home with me yesterday and now she texted me that she's coming to school tomorrow to pick up her sewing stuff and the fabric and so now i have to tell her that i took it back but i dont know how!!! I'm scared that she's gonna get pissed off that i took it back and i hate conflict so i'm trying to avoid telling her 🥲 what do yall think i should do
